Jj: Right. Let's hope not. So, uh...claire. She gonna be maid of honor?

Tripp: I don't think that's such a good idea, especially since the cover story is that we broke up right after I met haley.

Jj: Right. Well, no, I see your point. Especially if you really... dumped claire for haley, uh... look, I gotta admit, I'm kinda surprised that she's okay with everyone thinking that.

Tripp: Yeah, yeah, she doesn't love it, of course, but she's been really great about it. I mean, she's really stepped up to help us out.

Eve: So...that's the plan. Can we make it happen?

Claire: Wow. Ha ha. Damn. I thought I was shady, but you take things to a whole new level, eve.

Eve: You wanna keep your boyfriend, don't you?

Claire: Yeah, of course, of course, I just...you know, he does swear that this marriage to haley will be in name only.

Eve: He might really believe that, but do you think a user like haley is gonna be satisfied with that, claire?

Eve: Uh, you just missed your brilliant campaign manager ensuring that you... are gonna be the next mayor of salem.

[Tense music]

Sarah: Rex! I have a confession to make.

Rex: [Light laugh] A confession?

Eric: Sarah...you don't have to do this.

Sarah: Yes, I do.

Rex: What's going on?

Sarah: The other day, you saw me with eric, and you asked if something was going on.

Rex: Right, and...you said there wasn'T.

Sarah: I wasn't telling the truth. Eric and I kissed.

[Dramatic music]

Rex: You are unbelievable. You were hitting on sarah when your mother was fighting for her life?

Rex: Brady was warning me about this, and you just denied it and denied it and--

Sarah: Listen, rex--

Rex: I cannot believe that i trusted you. My own brother, going after the woman that I love? You son of a bitch!

Hope: Hey. The real jack is in there-- I know he is.

Jennifer: I wish I was as sure as you are.

Hope: You just can't give up. You can'T. You love him. Look at me and rafe. It wasn't that long ago that i thought my marriage was in terrible trouble. And things are...finally starting to get better.

Ted: Sorry I busted up your evening.

Rafe: Mm.

Ted: But we both know hope doesn't want a drug cartel destroying salem. And it was my responsibility as D.A.--

Jennifer: Why do I feel like you are holding something back from me?

Abe: Ted. Rafe. Is there a problem here?

Abe: So, rafe... why do I get the feeling that you and laurent weren't arguing about work matters?

Abe: Well, hope clearly likes him enough to recommend him for the D.A. Position.

Eve: You know, abe doesn't stand a chance once the voters see how devoted you are to ridding this fair city of illegals like haley chen.

Jack: Yeah, but we've already exposed haley. I don't see how we can keep this narrative fresh.

Eve: Well, according to claire, haley is planning a sham marriage to your nephew.

Jack: A green card marriage?

Claire: Haley, jj! Hi.

Tripp: Uh, haley and I have been practicing the story of how we fell in love. Wanna make sure that's convincing, you know, for when she applies for her green card.

Haley: Yeah, we've been working on some of the details, so...

Tripp: Actually would be great if we could test it out on the both you, you know, poke holes in anything that doesn't feel real.

Jj: Okay.

Tripp: Look, I-I hope this isn't too hard on you. I-I know you've been great, but--

Claire: No, no, tripp, I am fine, I am fine. I get that this is all an act. All right? Let's hear it.

Tripp: Okay. All right, uh, okay, here it goes. Um... I never believed in love at first sight until that day at the hospital. I had burned my arm in the kitchen and then I came in to have it treated.

Haley: And, uh...

[Ahem] I was at the, uh, er, uh...when tripp was brought in. And, um...

[Laughs] Why am I suddenly forgetting? Um...I was really, really nervous. You know, I guess I just wanted to be really cool around you because you were so handsome. Uh, but I managed to bandage his arm, and we talked and we laughed a lot, and I was having a really bad day at the er until tripp came along and made it all better. So...how does that sound so far?

Tripp: Think they'll buy it?

Claire: Honestly, um...

[Inhales through teeth] No.

Sarah: Rex! Stop it!

Rex: You looked at me in my eyes and you promised me that you would help me win back sarah.

Eric: I tried to tell you--

Rex: But you wanted her for yourself.

Eric: You just listen to me.

Rex: I don't give a damn what you have to say because you know why? I know exactly who you really are.

Sarah: Rex, it wasn't eric's fault!

Rex: He kissed you, sarah!

Sarah: No, he didn't! I kissed him.

[Intense music]

Jennifer: Uh...ted kissed you?

Hope: Yeah. Right in the middle of the hospital. I was totally blindsided. Completely. Well, I pulled away. You know I did. I was so embarrassed. I mean, god, it was just... awkward.

Jennifer: Yeah. No, no, I'm sure it was, but that makes me understand why rafe has an issue with the man, hope.

Hope: I haven't said anything to rafe. I haven't told him.

Jennifer: Oh.

Hope: "Oh"?

[Jennifer stammers] What? W-what do you mean--don't look at me like that. What-- rafe would be furious at me for letting this happen. Correction--I did not let this happen, because I did not do this. He did this and I was blindsided and... you know rafe would go after him.

Jennifer: Right. So is that why you didn't tell him? Is that the only reason?

Hope: What other reason could there be?

Jennifer: I don't know, maybe because you didn't 100% completely hate it, hope.

Hope: What? No! No--

Jennifer: Listen. Rafe took off, you felt vulnerable, there's this very handsome, sexy man there, I mean--

Jennifer: I don't know. Listen I'm just trying to say...

Hope: I have no idea what you're talking about.

Jennifer: Maybe deep down inside, there's this man, and he's pursuing you, and maybe... maybe you don't want it to stop. Maybe you kind of like it. I mean, is that a possibility?

Ted: Hi. May I join you ladies?

[Soft music plays in background]

Rafe: I'd rather not talk to you about ted and hope.

Abe: I'm not asking you as a friend. I'm asking you as your boss. Do I need to worry about this guy? And I expect your honesty, detective.

Rafe: Right. All right, you want me to be honest, I'll be honest. I don't think you had all the facts when you hired him.

Abe: What kind of facts?

Rafe: It's not my place to say.

Abe: [Sighs] Rafe... my campaign is on the defensive after jack attacked me for being soft on crime and immigration. Eve's opposition research is digging into every corner of my life. Now, if laurent has skeletons in his closet, then I need to know now.

Rafe: Skeletons.

Abe: This isn't about you or me. This town of salem is at stake! Do you have any idea what eve and jack could do to this town?

Jack: Of course. Of course jj would offer to marry haley.

Eve: Mm-hmm. Because he loves to help his damsels in distress.

Jack: No, no, no, no. It's more than that. Jj's still furious with me for outing haley. He just wants to grind me into the dirt.

Eve: It doesn't matter, jack, because haley is not gonna marry jj.

Jack: Why not?

Eve: Well, according to claire, haley feels that the shakespearian drama surrounding you and jj makes it tough and it'd be easier to sell tripp as the groom.

Jack: Oh! Okay, I get it, i get it. So my nephew will marry haley instead. That is so much better!

Eve: Yeah, it's better. It's better for us.

Jack: Because this is where your plan comes in.

Eve: That's right. We know that the marriage is a fake.

Jack: Uh-huh.

Eve: Now it's time for the world to know it too.

Jack: So we bust them publicly.

Eve: With a little help from claire. We'll get her to videotape tripp and haley's romantic proposal. She will have him post it on social media, and that is where it will spread near and far.

Jack: That is gonna garner a lot of attention.

Eve: [Laughing] Yes, especially for us... when we drop that hammer.

Jj: I thought the, uh, story sounded--sounded pretty solid.

Claire: Oh, yeah, no, no, the story's fine, the story's great. But, um...see, you just need some evidence, some proof of the life you have together. You need to let the world know how much you love each other.

Haley: Um...the world?

Claire: Yes. Tripp, you need to deliver this really romantic proposal right now, okay? And we will then take that video and post it on social media for the whole entire world to see. And that'll be the perfect way to show that you're super proud of your engagement to haley and you want everyone to know how in love you are.

Jj: It would make things look more legitimate.

Claire: [Laughs] What do you say, hales?

Haley: Uh...yeah, I--yeah, that makes sense.

Claire: Yeah, of course it does.

Tripp: Yeah, it's pretty brilliant, except I don't have a ring. Um...there any chance you have something we could use?

Claire: [Laughs] Yeah, yeah, I guess I have some rings.

Tripp: Would you mind?

Rex: I don't believe you.

Sarah: It's true. I kissed him.

Rex: Well, why are you telling me this now? Is eric the reason why you won't accept my proposal?

Sarah: No, it's not eric's fault--he made it very clear that he does not have any romantic feelings for me. Isn't that right?

Eric: I did say that to her.

Rex: Okay, fine, fine. Why--why confess now?

Sarah: Because brady saw us kiss and eric asked him not to say anything, but now brady's using the kiss as leverage.

Rex: Leverage for what?

Eric: He wants me to force chloe out of stefan's house.

Sarah: Brady is blackmailing eric, and I couldn't let that happen, so that's why I'm coming clean now, so that brady can't force eric to do his bidding.

Rex: Is that true? Or were you just afraid that brady was gonna bust the two of you for going behind my back?

Eric: Rex, I'm sorry. The last thing I ever wanted was a woman to come between us.

Rex: Is that what you told brady right before you stole nicole from him?

Eric: This is different. Sarah and I--

Tripp: Uh...shouldn't we rehearse or something?

Claire: No, no, no, no, no. You don't want it to sound too practiced. But we do need to set the scene in here and make it look a lot more romantic.

Jj: Yeah, I'll, uh, I'll light some candles. I think I saw a lighter in your jewelry box--

Claire: No! No. Uh, that lighter does not work, actually. Although we do have some matches over there next to the sink.

Jj: Okay.

Claire: Tripp, um, okay, you're gonna do this like private little conversation with the camera first. Haley, you're gonna go in the other room and then walk into the proposal, okay?

Haley: Okay, this room? Okay.

Claire: Yeah, yeah. All right, all right. Okay. All right! Everyone ready?

Tripp: Uh, wait, wait.

[Matches rustling] Okay...ha ha.

Claire: All right, okay.

Tripp: All right, let's do this.

Claire: [Whispers] Go!

Tripp: Uh...hey, guys, it's me, tripp. Um...I'm about to propose to the woman I love. I don't think she has any idea, and she's in the other room, and I think I hear her coming, so wish me luck.

Haley: Tripp? Tripp.

[Laughs] W-what's going on? What is this? Oh, my god.

Tripp: Haley... I know that we haven't known each other that long... but I fell in love with you the day you bandaged my arm at that hospital. Since that moment changed my life forever, I couldn't stand the thought of you going back to china. And I never want to be without you ever again.

Haley: Tripp...

Tripp: Haley chen, I love you so much. Will you marry me?

Haley: I-I can't believe this is even happening right now.

[Laughs]

Tripp: So--so is that a yes?

Eve: So once claire makes sure that that video of tripp and haley's proposal goes viral, we move on to phase two.

Jack: And what, pray tell, is phase two?

Eve: Phase two--claire and tripp have their own little romantic interlude right here at the salem inn.

Jack: And that's when we bust them.

Eve: Yes. We'll get the whole thing on video. It'll expose her fraudulently trying to get a green card.

Jack: That should be dramatic.

Eve: Mm-hmm. And you, my dear, will be the hero once again to all the voters here because you have exposed those lying, cheating illegals for stealing our jobs.

Jack: She's a nurse.

Eve: You know what, jack? I thought that you would be congratulating me on my brilliant idea here.

Jack: Tripp could get in a lot of trouble with the feds for helping haley.

Eve: That's not our problem.

[Liquid pours]

Jack: It's not gonna go down well with my family. Tripp is my brother's son.

Eve: You don't even know your brother, and you know what? If tripp wants to break the law by helping an illegal, then he has to deal with the consequences.

Jennifer: Oh. I have a call that I need to take.

Eve: All right, jack. If you want to beat abe carver in this race, then you have got to have a killer instinct! You've gotta want this. You've gotta want it as badly as I want it for you.

[Edgy music]

Jack: You're absolutely right. You're right. I want it. I wanna be mayor. If tripp falls, so be it. He made his own bed.

Eve: Thank god. You know, for a minute there, I thought that you wanted your family's approval more than you wanted mayor.

Jack: My family detests me. I owe them nothing.

Eve: You're damn straight.

Jack: Well, no one except my brilliant, genius... sexy campaign manager who's going to will me to victory.

Jennifer: Okay. But before you say anything, i want you to know that hope and i are like sisters, and I love her very much. And it concerns me that you are causing so many problems for her.

Ted: Right. Um...w-what did she say about it?

Jennifer: I'm more interested in what you say about it.

Ted: I just want hope to be happy. A-and that kiss would not have happened if her husband was treating her right.

[Knock on door]

Jack: So...when do we make this happen? When do we expose tripp for helping haley perpetrate this fraud?

Jj: Yeah. There's a lot of surprise. They didn't know you were together. You sure you're gonna be able to make this work?

Tripp: As long as everybody does their part...right? It already helps that you agreed to be my best man. So people know that you and haley are friends, so it'll really help--you backing up our love story.

Haley: Thank you so much again, claire, for letting me use your ring. You really didn't have to.

Haley: You know, I really... I really, really appreciate the sacrifice that you and tripp are making for me.

Claire: Well, I'm so happy to hear that. Look, haley, um... I get why tripp kissed you in that moment, I do. But just remember... that all of this is one big act, right? So keep your hands... to yourself.

Sarah: When you and I were apart...eric and I spent a lot of time together because of holly and because we both needed a friend. You know, he just lost nicole and...I'd just lost you and... maybe there was a part of me that turned to him, because i was angry with you.

Rex: You had every right and reason in the world to be angry with me.

Sarah: Yeah, you...slept with my sister. You had a baby with another woman. I wasn't sure that I'd ever forgive you.

Rex: Sarah, the only way that we're going to be able to fix this is with complete and total honesty.

Sarah: I agree.

Rex: So tell me the truth. I have been practically begging you to marry me, and you've been holding out. Is eric the reason? Do you have feelings for him?

[Soft music]

Sarah: [Sniffles] I think... the more that... the more that we spent time together, the more... I started to rely on him and... and that friendship grew into something more--for me, I guess. It wasn't anything that I was seeking out. It was... I don't know, just one day i looked at him, and I just felt something. But when we kissed, eric made it very clear that he does not feel the same way.

Rex: So...do you still have these feelings? Are you still gonna hold out with me?

Sarah: [Sniffles] Now that I know that there was never a connection between me and eric, I can put that behind me and just focus on us.

Rex: Is that what you really want? Do you wanna be with me?

Jennifer: What happens in rafe's and hope's marriage is their business.

Jennifer: Good. So if you want her to be happy the way you keep saying, you will leave her alone.

Ted: Wow. It sounds like to me you're the one interfering in hope's marriage. I'm gonna go to the bar and order my lunch. If you will excuse me.

Hope: Abe, I know you're someone who believes in second chances, just--
