Episode #13479 ~ Marlena confronts John about Leo's paternity secret; Will and Sonny break into Diana's hotel room; Rex confronts a man with a gun who appears to be stalking Chloe; Sarah doesn't know what to do about Rex's proposal.

Sarah: Before rex came in, you said that there is something you wanted to talk to me about.

Marlena: What if you were counseling somebody in the same situation? Would you tell them they just had to, what, set aside their own personal feelings?

Eric: No.

Marlena: Mm. Then you know what you have to do.

[Dramatic whooshing]

Eric: Know what, I don't even remember. Must not have been important.

Sarah: It seemed important. You said that you wanted to be honest with me about something. And I had a feeling that it was about us.

Eric: Us?

Sarah: You and me.

Marlena: Patient had no prior history of panic attacks. But another episode was... no, I'm sure that's not true.

Victor: I'm afraid it is. John is leo stark's father.

[Knocking on door]

John: Hey! There you are. I'm glad I caught you. Doc, you know how worried I get when you don't return my phone calls. Is there something wrong?

Marlena: You could say that.

[Uncertain music]

Will: Oh. God. It's you.

Sonny: Sorry, I hope--I hope you weren't waiting too long.

Will: No, I-I just got here. Hi. Oh, man, I hate this.

Sonny: I know. I thought we were done sneaking around.

Will: Me too, but your-- your dad made it very clear that we can't see each other.

Sonny: Yeah, 'cause if leo sees us together, he might flip out, make things worse.

Will: I'm done with this. I'm--I'm done sitting around, hoping for the best, being at leo's mercy. I have a plan. But first...

[Tender music]

[Cool music]

Brady: I suppose harold didn't announce me. I'm looking for chloe.

Stefan: She's at work.

Brady: By herself?

Stefan: She works at a club. There's lots of people there.

Brady: I don't care if it's grand central station, stefan. She shouldn't be out and about alone.

Stefan: You can leave now.

Brady: You know, chloe agreed to move in here because you offered her round-the-clock protection. That means if anything happens to her, it's on your head.

[Percussive music]

Rex: Do not turn around.

Chloe: What? What is it?

Rex: There's a man at the bar and he has a gun.

Chloe: I don't see a gun.

Rex: I told you not to turn around. It's a shoulder holster, okay? I caught it when he leaned forward.

Chloe: Oh, my god, I wasn't being paranoid. That guy's stalking me. Do you think that he'll do something here in the middle of all these people?

Rex: You know what, he's not gonna have a chance.

Chloe: What're you talking...

Rex: Just do not move.

[Suspenseful music]

Gerald: [Grunts]

Rex: [Grunts loudly]

[Both groaning]

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Stefan: [Sighs] Not that I owe you an explanation, but if it were up to me, I would've provided chloe with a private bodyguard. She didn't want someone following her around all the time.

Brady: So if you're not offering her round-the-clock protection, what measures are you taking, stefan?

Stefan: That's between chloe and me. Now, get out of my sight.

Brady: Chloe trusts you. God knows why. But you have offered her a false sense of security, so that makes her less safe than she's ever been.

[Foreboding music]

[Both groaning]

[Intense percussive music]

Chloe: Let go of him! Let go!

Gerald: [Yells] What the hell are you doing?

Chloe: You threatened me! You threatened my children. Give me one good reason why I shouldn't shoot you right now!

Sonny: Wow. There's nothing I can't face after that. So what's the plan?

Will: Okay. So you know how-- the reason we had john track down diana and bring her to salem was to get dirt on leo.

Sonny: But she's not gonna cough up information because she doesn't want to screw her son over.

Will: But even if she doesn't, there's still something she knows. There's some--some information out there that leo does not want anyone else to find out.

Sonny: So what're you saying, that we should dig up the dirt ourselves?

Will: After everything leo's done to us? I think it's time we-we pull out the big guns. And I know exactly where to start.

Marlena: Do you remember when victor summoned me earlier?

John: Yeah. He wanted to talk about will and sonny.

Marlena: Yes, and-- and he did. He also had some pretty unexpected news.

John: Yeah? What's that?

[Solemn music]

Marlena: Victor had diana followed when she came back to salem. You see, they're old enemies. They go--they go way back.

John: That's a fact.

Marlena: His investigators, um, came up with some pretty surprising information. Seems that she had a secret. Well, it wasn't really a secret from you. Because you knew it. You are leo's father.

[Cymbal shimmering] Were you ever going to tell me that?

[Suspenseful music]

In an era of online retail,

Eric: Uh, yeah, right. Yeah. You know, it was about you and me and, uh... it's just when I found out about you and xander, I was just--I was pretty harsh.

Sarah: Understandably.

Eric: No. No, no, no. Not understandably. I just--you know, it wasn't my place to judge, and... I just... I regret it, and... you know, because I really value our friendship, and...

Sarah: Uh... yeah, um... same here. Um...

Eric: Uh...

Sarah: And--and I... I appreciate you saying that. I-I thought we had worked through this already.

Eric: Yeah, you know, we did, and... I was just, you know, thinking one day you're gonna be my sister and all, and I just... you know, I want to make sure that everything's all good.

Sarah: Don't worry, we're all good. But, um... I'm not sure that I'm ever gonna be your sister-in-law.

Rex: Chloe. Chloe, give me the gun.

Chloe: I took out your boss. Give me one reason I shouldn't do the same to you!

Gerald: Because I don't work for the cartel! I work for brady black!

[Intense music]

Stefan: I've kept chloe completely safe.

Brady: Have you?

Stefan: Mm-hmm.

Brady: Then why don't you know that I've had a man on her the last couple days?

Stefan: What're you talking about?

Brady: I've had someone looking out for her. Twenty-four seven. It's a good thing I did too, because you've obviously left her out hanging to dry.

Stefan: Uh, well, now that I, now that I know that, if you had told chloe that you have this-- this man on her, she certainly would've objected. You--you obviously didn't tell her. So--so that means, now-- what, you're making decisions for her now?

Brady: In this case, yeah. When it comes to her protection, and her safety, yeah, I feel pretty justified making any decision I want to.

Stefan: Okay. So you're multitasking now? Playing hero to chloe, trying to, uh, trying to keep titan afloat? While its ex-ceo faces criminal charges. That's--that's, wow.

Brady: Yeah, well, okay, you have a good day, all right?

Stefan: All on the heels of losing custody of your son and being abandoned by pretty much every woman you ever loved? Yeesh! This trend continues, you'll have nothing left. Or no one.

Diana: Thank you so much, henderson.

Victor: Mm. Gonna need these more than I thought.

Diana: And hello again, victor.

Victor: What do you want now?

Diana: Just came to find out if you did what I asked. How'd things go with marlena?

John: Sorry. I never meant for you to find out that way.

[Solemn music]

Marlena: So... it's true.

John: Apparently. But, sweetheart, there's something that you need to understand here. When--when diana left salem all those years ago, I had no idea she was pregnant. It wasn't until she--she came back to salem here that I found out that she was leo's mother, then, hell, I started doing the math, and--and I-I realized that, you know, I could be his father, so I went to diana and I confronted her, and she admitted that... it's true.

Marlena: What I don't understand is why did she wait? Why didn't she tell you when she found out?

John: She said that shortly after she left salem, she got involved with another man, and he agreed to raise leo as his own. When she found out that you had come back, she--she knew there was no way in hell I was ever gonna leave you.

Marlena: I see. So, um, after all that time, she just came clean?

John: At least partly. Sweetheart, I wanted to tell you about this from the moment I found out, but diana was begging me not to say anything. For a couple different reasons. First of all, she-- she said, "leo will never forgive me for lying to him all these years," and then she thought this whole thing would further escalate things between will and sonny, but you know what I told her? I said, I can't do that. I-I can't keep these secrets from doc, and I'm not gonna do it. You deserve to know the truth.

Marlena: I do. So does leo. I mean, if it is true. Are you convinced? So there you are with your depression

Eric: Sarah, you said that you turned down rex's proposal initially because you said you didn't want to rub your happiness in my face but I'm telling you--

Sarah: I know. I know. You've said it all before. Rex is a good guy, and he loves me, and "don't worry about my feelings."

Eric: You're saying again that you--

Sarah: It's fine. But your feelings aren't the only issue here. What about my feelings?

Chloe: You expect me to believe that you work for brady black?

Gerald: I have a titan id to prove it, and a concealed carry permit. I'll show you if you promise not to shoot me.

Chloe: Go ahead.

[Forlorn music]

Rex: It does look pretty legit.

Chloe: The cartel wouldn't have a problem producing fakes.

Gerald: Just call mr. Black if you want.

Chloe: I'm too furious to speak to mr. Black.

Get the hell out of here. Just go! Go!

Uh... I'm--I'm sorry, you guys, for the interruption. Please allow me to offer you a round of drinks on the house. I'm really sorry.

Rex: Hey. That was really something.

Chloe: Yeah, you're telling me.

Rex: No, I'm actually talking about you. When the hell did you turn into such a badass?

Chloe: I wasn'T. I was terrified. Thank god julie keeps pepper spray under the bar and she made me take that self-defense class.

Rex: You took one class? Seriously, it paid off.

Chloe: Well, when the cartel threatened to come after my family, I mean, it's-- it's one thing if they come after me, but if anything ever happened to parker or holly, I-I can't-- I can't stay here. I have to call julie.

Rex: Listen. Listen, chloe. I really am so sorry.

Chloe: Why are you sorry?

Rex: When that guy came in here and he was eyeing you, I--at first I thought it's because you're drop dead gorgeous. But then I saw the gun and, look, I just-- I really feel awful that you got scared for no reason whatsoever.

Chloe: It wasn't your fault.

Brady: I'm gonna lose everything? You're one to talk. What do you got? You have no more family members here in town. You don't have a friend in this town. As a matter of fact, I can't think of-- I can't think of one person that actually really gives a damn about you. Even your own board at dimera. They don't even want you running this company without your brother chad, do they? And now that he's gone, it's only a matter of time before you just... run dimera into the ground. And I have a front row seat, brother, I'm just gonna sit back and watch you do it.

Stefan: I wouldn't get too cocky. Dimera and titan have been bitter rivals for years. Now that my dear old father has passed, chad has done his best to play nice, but I'm not chad. So consider yourself warned. Those days are over, pal.

[Dramatic music]

John: Am I sure that I'm leo's father? Well, I mean, I haven't had a dna test done, if that's what you're asking.

Marlena: So you-- you believe diana.

John: She doesn't have any reason to lie. I mean, come on, it's not like she came to me and announced that I have a long-lost son. I'm the one who pressed her. I had to basically pull it out of her.

Marlena: So she's been pretending she doesn't want you to know. Please don't be so naive. Look, she's been lying to me since I met her. And now she's claiming that you're her son's father? Isn't it obvious to you what she wants?

John: Okay, so what is it you think she wants?

Marlena: She wants you. You.

Will: Remind me to never let anyone I care about stay here. It's way too easy to grab a key off a housekeeping cart.

Sonny: Let's just hope the desk clerk was right about diana not being here.

Will: Okay.

[Lock clicks]

[Suspenseful music]

She isn't here.

Sonny: Well, she could be back any second, so let's do this quickly.

Will: Okay.

Sonny: What exactly are we looking for?

Will: I have no idea, but I'm guessing we'll know when we see it.

[Knocking on door]

Leo: Mother. Are you in there?

Victor: Yes, I held up my part of the deal.

Diana: Good. So marlena knows that john's been lying to her about his, or our, love child.

Victor: Yes, she does. Now it's time for you to hold up your end. Neutralize leo so he can drop the charges against my nephew.

Diana: Neutralize. Hmm. All in good time, victor. First, I have to see if your little bombshell worked on marlena, see if you succeeded in driving a wedge between them.

Victor: That was not a part of our deal.

Diana: Oh, don't worry about it. I don't expect divorce decrees just yet. Maybe some icy stares, maybe a public fight in a public square.

Victor: I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. I told you, after everything those two have overcome, it's gonna take a lot more than this to tear 'em apart.

Marlena: You don't seem very surprised by the notion that diana wants you back.

John: I'm not. You see, she admitted that she got the wrong idea when she found out I was the one who was tracking her down.

Marlena: I see.

John: So I had to set her straight. I just told her, hey, I had no idea who the woman was I was looking for. Besides that, you and i are inseparable.

Marlena: Nobody is inseparable.

John: We are now. Hard stop. And I hope you know that I love you with all of my heart.

Marlena: Oh, I love you.

[Tender music]

John: And no matter what the truth is, sweetheart, we're gonna find out together, and then we'll... we will deal with it. Together.

Eric: Your feelings about what?

Sarah: It's like I said before, rex and I have major trust issues.

Eric: Yeah, I know. And considering what you went through with him, that's more than understandable. But I'm sure it's, you know, you'll get better in time.

Sarah: Hopefully. Uh, I should get back to work.

Eric: Yeah.

Sarah: I'll see you around.

Eric: See you.

[Melancholy music]

Brady: Really think you're the biggest threat that titan's ever faced? Uh-uh. Bring it on. But I suggest that you leave chloe out of it.

Stefan: How is this any of your business?

Brady: How is it not my business? She's my ex-wife, stefan, and she's my dear friend.

Stefan: Sure she's not just a little more than that?

[Dramatic music]

It's a brand new morning

Maggie: Okay.

Sarah: Mom?

Maggie: Sweetheart. Oh, I'm so glad to see you.

Sarah: Oh, me too. What a surprise.

Maggie: Well, yeah, I was here, reading to the kids in the pediatric wing. When I told them that you were my daughter, they got very excited and they said, "oh, we just love dr. Sarah."

[Both laugh]

Sarah: That's probably because I do all the crazy youtube dances with them.

Maggie: Aww. I'm sure it's more than that. They know how much you care about them. I'm so proud of you, darling. I'm so happy that you made the decision to move back to salem.

Sarah: Yeah. Me too.

Maggie: Sarah, is everything all right?

Sarah: [Clears throat] Rex gave me a big surprise earlier and, um, proposed again.

Maggie: Mm!

[Clears throat] Well, I take it congratulations aren't in order.

Sarah: I told him no for now. I'm so confused, I... despite everything, you know, when rex came back into town, I...

Maggie: Mm-hmm.

Sarah: I still loved him, and I wanted a future with him.

Maggie: But?

Sarah: I had a dream the other night, and it... made me realize that... I have feelings for eric.

Eric: Hey. What's going on?

Rex: You wouldn't believe it if I told you, man.

Eric: Yeah, well, try me.

Rex: I was just at doug's place. I was talking to chloe. I see this guy at the bar. He looks like he's from that mexican cartel that was after her.

Eric: What?

Rex: And he had a gun.

Eric: Really--what happened?

Rex: I tackled him. Turns out, he's private security detail hired by brady.

Eric: To protect chloe?

Rex: Yeah, you think he would've mentioned something like that to her.

Eric: That's my brother for you, doesn't always think things through.

Rex: I can see why the two of you had issues, even when you weren't in love with the same woman.

Chloe: You can just leave, okay? You're the last person I want to see right now.

Brady: Ch--wh--what're you talking about? What's wrong with you?

Chloe: What's wrong? Why didn't you tell me that you had a guy tailing me? He came in and sat at the bar and rex noticed he had a gun. I was so freaked out he was after my kids, I pulled a gun on him! I almost pulled the trigger!

Brady: Listen, I'm sorry-- I know, I know, I know. I know, I'm sorry. Not--I know you didn't want to have a guard on you, but I-I-I was worried about your protection. I was worried about you. I don't trust this guy at all.

Chloe: I know, you were trying to help, but you did the exact opposite. Okay, just... leave and promise me that you'll never do anything like that again.

Brady: All right. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

[Melancholy music]

Marlena: Aww. You poor thing. You must be overwhelmed by all this new information. But whether or not you believe that diana's telling the truth about leo's paternity, don't you want to know the truth?

John: Of course I do.

Marlena: Well, then, we need to do a dna test on leo.

John: You're right. We need a little bit of proof, don't we?

Marlena: Somehow get that without him knowing that he might be your son.

John: Well, you are married to a spy, you know.

[Suspenseful music]

[Knocking on door]

Leo: Mother.

Will: What do we do?

Sonny: Just wait. He'll go away.

Leo: Excuse me. Hi. Uh, I'm diana cooper's son. The woman staying in this room. Right, I-I just... I left my wallet in her room. Uh, could you let me in so I could grab it?

[Lock beeps, clicks] (Announcer) do you push through migraine?

Rex: You know, I know things have been rough with you and brady. And since that's been going on, I want you to know that i consider myself grateful and lucky that you and i get along so well.

Eric: I agree, we are lucky.

Rex: And I know that you resisted when I asked if you could help me out with sarah, and look, I understand why. I do. Expecting somebody else to convince sarah to marry me is, as you put it, very naive and juvenile. But eric, I only asked because you're my brother and I know that she really respects you. And it seemed like if you couldn't talk her into marrying me, you could at least tell her how committed I am to her, now and forever. And that I will be a loyal and devoted husband until the end of time. That's how you--you expressed it, right?

Eric: Well, not quite like that.

Rex: No, but it was like the essence of that, right? It was very similar.

Eric: Yeah. Yeah, it was.

Rex: And? How'd it go?

Maggie: So. You're having feelings for eric because of a dream? Or is it because of what happened between you and eric?

Sarah: What do you mean?

Maggie: Well, when you found out that rex had cheated on you, with noel, I mean, you and eric were--

Sarah: No, I-- no, no, no. No, it has nothing to do with that. That was just a stupid, desperate move on my end to try to get back at rex.

Maggie: Sure, yeah. That's what I thought.

Sarah: Just, the thing is, mom... when rex and I broke up, you know, as I was getting to know eric, I could feel myself becoming attracted to him. And then I thought, well, it's--it's eric brady. I mean, who wouldn't be attracted to him. He's so good-looking, and he's--he's just sweet and--and... easygoing. No, nothing ever came of it, and... rex and I got back together and, you know, tried to pick up where we left off.

Maggie: But things hadn't turned out the way you hoped.

Sarah: It's just, you know, rex and I, restarting our relationship, it's been hard. Big part of that is because I'm still having trouble trusting him.

Maggie: And the other part is you've developed feelings for eric. Does eric know?

Sarah: No.

Maggie: Do you think that he might return those feelings? No?

Sarah: I thought it was possible. And I've hinted at it, you know, but every time I do, he doesn't really respond. He just kind of gets uncomfortable.

Maggie: Well, if you've only hinted at it...

Sarah: Mom, he's still mourning nicole, and he's never gonna allow himself to feel those feelings for me while I'm dating his brother, and... ever since rex came back into town, eric has been rooting for rex and I to get back together, and, obviously, he wouldn't be doing that if he had feelings for me.

Maggie: No, he wouldn'T. And if he did, he would be sending very mixed messages.

Sarah: Rex's message is very clear. He--he loves me. And... we are very compatible, and... I don't know, mom. I'm so confused.

Maggie: Oh, baby.

Leo: Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.

[Dramatic music]

You mess up my plans, I--

Diana: Don't you dare threaten me. I know you killed your father, and I have the proof.

Leo: Where would she keep it?

Wait a minute.

Marlena: Victor, I hope you don't mind, but henderson-- diana.

Diana: Hello, marlena.

Victor: Marlena, what can we do for you?

Marlena: Well, I came to continue our conversation about diana. Well, here she is. That is so much the better. Now we can, oh, how do I say it... oh, I remember. Kill two birds with one stone.

[Percussive music]

Seresto, seresto, seresto.

Eric: I told sarah that i wish she hadn't rejected your proposal on my account, you know, that it shouldn't even be a consideration.

Rex: Did you get through to her? Do you think she's gonna say yes? Like, now? Soon? Eventually?

Eric: Honestly, I don't know.

Maggie: I'm so sorry that you're having such a difficult time with this, sweetheart. But I am so glad that you didn't commit to rex if you're not 100% sure of your feelings.

Sarah: He's just-- he is just so determined to get that ring back on my finger. Like, he's obsessed with getting me to marry him, and I don't-- I don't want to string him along.

Maggie: Well... if he truly loves you, which you say that he does, then he will wait for you. You have to follow your heart. And you'll know what to do, when the time is right.

[Tender music]

Promise.

Brady: Can't believe you not only let rex and chloe spot you, but you didn't inform me about it immediately.

Gerald: I'm sorry, boss. I dropped my phone at the club. Rex attacked me out of nowhere.

Brady: Don't you train for things like that?

Gerald: I had an off night. But I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make--

Brady: No, look, here. You're fired. I'm gonna take care of chloe myself from here on out.

[Dramatic music]

Stefan: Here, I thought you could use that.

Chloe: Thanks.

Stefan: You're welcome.

Chloe: You know, it was bad enough that I had to kill a man in mexico. But it was his life or mine, and, tonight, I never thought that I would get so close to taking someone's life again.

Stefan: It'll be okay. You trust me?

Chloe: I do now.

[Ethereal music]

Leo: Of course. It's in the safe. Okay. So now the question is, what is the combination? Of course it wouldn't be my birthday. Mom's birthday?

[Keys beeping]

[Safe buzzes] Maybe I got the year wrong.

[Safe buzzes] Could it be my birthday?

[Safe buzzes] Damn it. I gotta get out of here.

[Suspenseful music]

Will: Diana does have some-- have something on leo.

Sonny: We have to crack that safe.

Diana: I was just giving victor a piece of my mind. Seems he's been following me, and when he found out that john is leo's father, he felt compelled to tell you, and I am so sorry. You were not meant to find out this way. I'm sure you are so upset that john and I kept this from you, but I can explain, marlena.

Marlena: Oh, please. Don't put me through that. I've spoken to john. He told me that you've been pressuring him into not telling me the truth. I told him I understood, and we're fine. Victor, thank you for telling me the truth. Diana, I know you don't want leo to know the truth. You don't have to worry. You can tell it to him yourself. He will not hear it from me.

[Percussive music]

So that's, uh, what I came to tell you. Excuse the interruption.

Did you get it?

John: Right next to the monogram towels.

Marlena: [Laughs] That's great.

John: Thanks for running interference in there.

Marlena: It was my pleasure.

John: So in 24 hours, we should have the dna results, right?

Marlena: Yeah. Then we'll know the truth.

Diana: What the hell was that? She acted like she heard john had toe fungus, not a long-lost son who ruined her grandson's life.

Victor: Well, I tried to tell you.

Diana: Oh, spare me. I suppose I've always known. John only looked at me twice because he knew or thought his precious doc was dead.

Victor: Well, she's very much alive. And she's not going anywhere.

Diana: Yeah. We'll see about that.
