[Door rattling, banging]

Sarah: Oh!

Rex: Whoa! Dude!

Eric: Thought somebody was breaking in.

Rex: Sorry. We thought you were in bed.

Eric: Yeah, seems like we're both wrong.

Sarah: Sorry. Really.

Rex: Yeah.

Eric: It's not a problem. I was just working on some photos, but I'm gonna go for a walk.

[Door shuts]

Roman: Okay, so let me get this straight. Back when john thought you were dead and he was me, he dated a woman named diana colville.

John: Who one day suddenly left town and I haven't seen or heard from her since.

Marlena: And then will asked if john could track down leo's mother.

Roman: Whose name is diana colville.

Marlena: Whose name is diana colville.

Roman: Wow. Talk about blast from the past.

Marlena: What about her being leo's mother? Did you know she had a son?

John: Not a clue.

Marlena: Huh. Well, I guess she had him shortly after she left salem, huh?

John: Sure didn't see that one coming.

[Knocking at door]

[Door handle rattles]

[Tense music]

Diana: What are you doing here?

Leo: I wanted to deliver this personally.

Diana: You shouldn't have.

Leo: It's a one-way ticket out of here. I want you gone by tomorrow morning.

Tripp: Hey.

Claire: Hey [Chuckles] Just getting off work now? Fran must've kept you late.

Tripp: Yeah, I figured you'd come by the café to wait for me.

Claire: Oh, so fran could put me to work too and screw up my hang-out time with you?

[Laughs] No way.

Tripp: I'm always amazed how your mind works.

Ben: Claire. Have you seen ciara?

Claire: Uh, no, I haven'T. Why?

Ben: Because she's missing.

Abigail: Jordan, I can't believe it.

Jordan: I know it's late. I should have called.

Abigail: Oh, no, no, no. It's never too late for an old friend. Are you kidding me?

Jordan: I was driving by. I saw the light on, so I thought I'd take a chance.

Abigail: What are you--what are you doing back here? I thought you had enough of this place. Is everything okay?

Jordan: No. It's not.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Abigail: Come on inside. It's freezing out. So when did you get back?

Jordan: Oh, just a little while ago. Huh. This place, it just doesn't change.

Abigail: I know. Tell me about it. Tea?

Jordan: Yes, tea would be nice, thank you.

Abigail: Okay, when I get back, you are telling me what's wrong.

Jordan: Yeah. I have a bit of a confession to make.

Abigail: Okay.

Diana: Who are you to barge in here and give me marching orders?

Leo: Your son, the one you've made nothing but trouble for from the second you hit town.

Diana: No, kiddo, you have made all this trouble for yourself.

Leo: I am making a life for myself.

Diana: Is that the way you see it?

Leo: How else would I see it? I have a handsome, successful husband, a beautiful home, an exciting social life, but god forbid my own mother give me credit for anything.

Diana: I should give you credit for blackmailing a man into marrying you?

Leo: You should give me credit for surviving. For somehow managing to keep my self together with absolutely zero support from you.

Diana: I'm very sorry you see it that way. I admit. There were times I failed you as a mother, but it was because--

Leo: Because what? Because I was a complete disappointment to you in every way because you couldn't stand the sight of me?

Diana: Oh, of course not. I loved you with all my heart. But I... I couldn't understand you. You confused me.

Leo: Oh, sure, of course. How confusing that your son turned out to be gay.

Diana: Stop.

Leo: I mean, really. How on earth could such a thing happen to such a lovely, respectable woman who read all the right childcare books, sent her son to all the right schools. I mean, that just didn't seem fair, now did it?

Diana: Just stop it, stop it, you will not go there. You know perfectly well I have no problem with you being gay. With anybody being gay. What I have a problem with is you being a sociopath.

Leo: Go to hell.

Diana: Stop it. Stop! I want to ask you one question, matthew. Why have you chosen to destroy the lives of two perfectly decent men? Why would you want to stay married to a man who will never love you?

Leo: Why do you assume that sonny would never love me? Because I'm such a loser? But while we're on the topic, why don't I ask you the same question about you and the old man. Actually, you know what? You'll be gone tomorrow, so why bother.

Diana: That just-- no, I won'T. I'm sorry, matthew. But I am not ready to leave salem.

Leo: Salem? Or john black?

Roman: Okay, so can diana convince her son to let sonny out of the marriage?

John: Well, I didn't get that impression when I talked to her.

Marlena: Maybe you should try again.

John: Yeah, well, I'll think about that.

Marlena: Well, I don't want to be a party pooper--ooh, I'm so sorry. I'm just wiped out.

John: [Chuckles] Hey, sweetheart, mind if I catch up with you? I want to run a case by roman.

Marlena: Oh, of course that's okay.

John: All right. Love you.

Marlena: Love you. See you at home. Good night, roman.

Roman: Night, marlena. Okay. What's going on?

Marlena: Eric, honey. What are you doing out so late at night?

Eric: I had to get out of my apartment. My roommate is entertaining a lady.

Marlena: Oh, yeah. I heard about sarah and rex. I don't even know what to say.

Eric: Yeah, that makes two of us.

Rex: Now that we're alone, you want to take this party to the bedroom?

[Both laugh]

Sarah: Ah, well what if eric comes back?

Rex: What? What if he does?

Sarah: I don't know, I just-- I'm not comfortable here, rex. Eric looks at me like he hates me.

Rex: Sarah, he's gonna come around eventually.

Sarah: You don't know that.

Rex: I do know that I don't really want to talk about eric, not after tonight and the dinner we had. It just kind of felt like old times, right?

Sarah: Yeah.

Rex: [Chuckles] What? What is it?

Sarah: I don't know, I just--

Rex: You just can't get eric out of your head, can you?

Abigail: All right, kettle is on. So what's this confession?

Jordan: [Sighs] Well, i didn't mean to sound so dramatic, but I'm just really worried.

Abigail: Is it about ben?

Jordan: About what ben might do. I mean, he never should have been released from the hospital that he was in.

Abigail: Yeah, well his doctors were convinced that he was out of his psychotic state, and so is dr. Evans.

Jordan: Yeah, well, he knows how to fool people.

Abigail: Yes, he does. I was one of those people.

Jordan: I came back to make sure that he never does anything to you ever again.

Abigail: What do you mean?

[Kettle whistling] Oh, um, I will be right back.

Claire: Where could ciara be? Oh, my god, grandma hope must be freaking out.

Ben: She is freaking out. And she just accused me of kidnapping ciara from the airport.

Tripp: Yeah, sounds like something you would do.

Ben: Well I didn'T. All right? What about you? You know where she is?

Tripp: If I did, I wouldn't tell you.

Ben: [Scoffs, exhales] I give up.

Claire: Oh, my god. I really hope this is just a mix-up. Ciara has to be okay.

Marlena: Did you see sarah after you left my office?

Eric: I walked in to my apartment, and her and rex were together. She forgave him for everything that happened.

Marlena: Yeah. She told me that. She said she wanted to close a book on everything in the past and just start fresh.

Eric: Yeah, with rex too.

Marlena: I'm not sure she's 100% convinced that's how she feels, that may--

Eric: Mom. Let it go.

Marlena: Kay. Could I just say one thing?

Eric: Yeah.

Marlena: Well, what if she just reconciled with rex because she thought she had ruined her relationship with you?

Ben: You call yourself a doctor? You are nothing but a two-faced quack!

Eric: Hey, listen, the only mistake my mother ever made as your doctor was letting you out of a mental institution.

Ben: You told me that everything we talked about was confidential. You lied!

Eric: I said back off!

Marlena: Eric, I've got it. Honey. Ben. Look, I didn't betray your confidence lightly. Ciara went missing, and hope was afraid that something had happened to her.

Ben: That's what hope said?

Marlena: It is. She was very worried.

Ben: She was worried? Like I'm not worried?

Marlena: I know you are. Ben, confidentiality doesn't apply if I believe I have evidence of a crime.

Ben: And you think I'm the reason ciara's missing. That's the crime, right?

Jordan: Oh, I heard you had another baby.

Abigail: Yes. Oh, it was a baby girl, charlotte.

Jordan: Aw, how does thomas feel about having a little sister?

Abigail: Oh, my god, he loves her. It's really sweet. He's getting sort of protective over her now.

Jordan: Mm, I was always like that with ben. Always trying to protect him from our father. Now I feel like I have to protect people from ben.

Abigail: Jordan, you know you can tell me anything. What's going on?

Jordan: It ju--um. Okay. The last time that I talked to him, he was really agitated, and so I asked him if he'd gone off his meds. And he swore that he hadn't, but I don't know. Something was off, and then he stopped taking my phone calls. So I booked a flight here.

Abigail: Look, your-- your brother, uh, nearly ruined my life. I was actually institutionalized twice.

Jordan: I am so sorry.

Abigail: It's been a long road back, and I'm stronger for it. But I--I still wouldn't go anywhere near ben.

Jordan: So you haven't had any run-ins with him?

Abigail: Actually, I mean, i saw him once.

Jordan: Oh, well what happened? Tell me what happened.

Abigail: It was christmas eve, and I was at the dimera house. I was delivering divorce papers to stefan.

Roman: When marlena was talking about diana colville, I could see you squirming.

John: Yeah, it was, um, a bit uncomfortable.

Roman: C'mon, don't tell me you saw this diana and got that old feeling--

John: No, no, no. No, no, no, nothing like that. Doc's the only one for me. This thing with colville, that's been over years ago.

Roman: So what's making you squirm?

John: [Sighs]

[Inaudible] Colville left town without any warning.

Roman: So?

John: And she returns as leo starke's mother.

Roman: So what, you're feeling awkward about trying to dig up dirt on the son of an ex?

John: Yeah. Especially if that double-dealing little bastard turns out to be my son too.

Diana: I do not want to discuss john black with you.

Leo: Oh, cut the ingénue crap, diana. You can't pull it off. You're out to get him, aren't you?

Diana: Long time ago we were a couple.

Leo: [Sighs] So the P.I. Will horton hired to find you is an old boyfriend.

Diana: Things didn't work out for us then. But he's different now. He's matured. He's like a--

Leo: What, like a fine wine? An aged kentucky bourbon? I get it, okay? Yeah, I might even say go for it if the circumstances were different, but john black is married to will horton's grandmother, and will horton is trying to blow up my marriage to sonny. Do you see where I'm going with this? They will do anything to get me, mom, which is why they hired john to find you.

Diana: And I promise you I will not be a problem.

Leo: I know you, mommy dearest, okay? A few too many martinis, you get a glimpse of that salt and pepper chest hair, you will lie back, open up that vault of secrets of yours, and I will be toast.

Diana: What do you think I'm gonna tell john? Oh, yes. That you're a murderer.

Leo: You listen to me, lady id. Watch that mouth of yours.

Diana: It seems to me you're the one that needs to watch out. All sonny kiriakis needs to know is that you killed somebody. And your hold over him will be out the window. And he will go back to his beloved ex-husband, and you

[Chuckles] Well, who knows where in the hell you'll be.

Leo: And you wouldn't give a rat's ass, would you? So long as you get what you want which in this case is a roll in the hay with an old flame. Who cares if you have to sell your own son down the river. Who cares if your own son who has had a remarkably joyless existence, thanks to you, cease to exist at all? You not only wouldn't care, you would be relieved.

Diana: Stop it.

Leo: I mean, really, mom. I have been nothing but an embarrassment to you from the moment you realized that I was not the son you dreamed of having. I wasn't brilliant or talented or macho or athletic.

Diana: Athletic? But you were athletic. You were on the soccer travel team.

Leo: Oh, my god. Why do I even bother?

Diana: You go ahead. You laugh. You laugh. But I did adore you. And I want you to know that i even carry a photograph of you in my wallet when you were about ten years old. You were kneeling and holding a soccer ball and smiling that-- that lovely smile of yours. You were sweet and funny. And athletic. And you made me so proud. So proud. And if I fail to tell you, I'M... I'm terribly, terribly sorry. Now I think you need to leave.

Leo: Wait, wait, mom, um... did you mean what you said? Would you betray me like that? And tell people what I did?

Leo: You took a man's life, matthew. A man I cared deeply about.

Leo: Damn it, mom, that is a lie, and you know it. Since when did you ever give a damn about my father?

Roman: So you really think that leo starke, or whatever his name is, could be your son?

John: It's possible.

Roman: Well, if that's true, this is the second son you didn't know about.

John: Yeah, don't remind me.

Roman: Nobody sat you down and told you how not to get a woman pregnant?

John: Apparently not.

Roman: So how do you know this kid's your son?

John: I don'T. But I'm telling you, if it turns out a son of mine has caused all this misery for sonny and will, it's gonna be a catastrophe and not just for me. I'm talking about for doc too.

Marlena: Ben. If you remember the meeting in my office, you were very agitated. You were desperate to see ciara.

Ben: So what? I didn't even know she was back! And now, because of you, I have hope brady and her skeevy little sidekick lawyer breathing down my neck because they're dying to lock me up, and you know that! Ciara's out there missing, and she could be in real danger! I should be out looking for ciara, but I can't do that. Because the doctor I trusted sold me down the river.

Sarah: Eric and I were friends. He trusted me. And now he doesn'T. God, I would give anything to undo that night.

Rex: Yeah, but you weren't yourself that night, sarah. I mean, that night only happened because you found out about noelle and me. And you forgave me for that, which I'm so grateful for, and eric's gonna forgive you for xander.

Sarah: I wish I was as sure as you are.

Rex: Well, I'm feeling pretty positive. I just got my girlfriend back.

Sarah: I don't [Laughs] Want to rush things.

Rex: Meaning?

Sarah: Meaning I've forgiven, but I haven't forgotten.

Rex: Yes, abso--of course.

Sarah: You know, 'cause when I think about you and mimi and you and noelle, I just... a pain is still there. You know, it hurts really badly. And it's not just my feelings. It's my ego, too, 'cause all I can think is that I just wasn't good enough for you.

Rex: You know that's not true.

Sarah: How do I know that, rex? Because you keep telling me that? 'Cause those are just words.

Rex: No, no, no, because i hope you know, sarah, that you are a beautiful and talented and intelligent and altogether just awesome woman. Any guy that doesn't see that is just an idiot, and although i behaved idiotically under some pretty stressful circumstances--

Sarah: Oh, my god, please do not make any excuses.

Rex: I'm not making excuses. I'm just--I hope you understand that it was my insecurities that made me act that way and my lack of confidence in us. Like, I was afraid you were becoming disillusioned with me and I was not worthy of you and--

Sarah: Well, what better way to prove your worth than by cheating on me.

Rex: Oh, god, no, just-- all you need to know, I--I hate myself for what I did to you. I will always hate myself for what I did to you, and although it's great and very important that we talk about our feelings, don't you feel that moving forward instead of dredging up the pain, maybe it's smarter to make happier memories. I mean, don't you agree?

Sarah: Yeah, I do.

Rex: Look, I also understand that everything that went on happened very recently so I get that it's gonna take time for you to trust me again. I know that.

Sarah: I hope that's all that it takes. This time. When I walked through a snowstorm for a cigarette,

Claire: Okay. Yeah, I will. I love you. Bye.

Tripp: What's ciara's mom say?

Claire: Oh, well she and some other cops have all the video from the security footage at the airport, and they're going over it.

Tripp: Just hoping they see ciara?

Claire: Yeah.

Tripp: Okay, that could take forever. Hey, did you buy what ben was saying?

Claire: Why wouldn't I?

Tripp: I mean, just running around here like his hair's on fire? You know, telling everybody how worried he is about ciara. That could be--could be a really good cover.

Claire: He seemed really scared to me.

Tripp: Oh, come on. I mean, he could have snapped when ciara was gone and then grabbed her as soon as she got back.

Claire: I think you need to give him a chance.

Tripp: Yeah, no, no, you can give him a chance if you want to but not me, okay? I'm still convinced that he's the one who set the fire with her still trapped inside of the cabin.

Claire: Oh, my god, would you stop? Tripp, really, you couldn't tell how worried he seemed about her?

Tripp: Yeah, we are all worried about her. Oh, man. I just hope to god that something really bad hasn't happened to her.

Jordan: I can't believe how much you've been through. You were so together the last time I saw you.

Abigail: [Chuckles] On the surface, maybe.

Jordan: And you and chad, is there any hope that you two might get back together?

Abigail: Yeah, that's hope, I guess, but I just--I really need to be able to trust him again. I don't know if I ever really can.

Jordan: Well that i understand. I mean, if he was determined to have you committed...

Abigail: Yeah. Yeah, it was... it was a dark time, but that is all over now.

Jordan: So how does ben figure in to all of this?

Abigail: Oh, uh, stefan. Stefan hired him as his head of security.

Jordan: What? Ben?

Abigail: Yeah. He didn't tell you that?

Jordan: [Scoffs] No.

Abigail: Yeah, when I was leaving the dimera house, I opened up the door and ben was standing right there. And he even asked stefan if he wanted him to stop me from leaving.

Jordan: Oh, my god.

Abigail: Yeah, it was pretty awful. I was standing there with charlotte in my arms, and i was looking right at ben. And I had this terror that he was gonna take charlotte away from me the exact same way that he did with thomas when he was a baby. And I had this split second where I looked at him and I saw that same cold look in his eyes, and it took everything in me to just push down that fear.

Jordan: So what happened? Did he try to take the baby?

Abigail: No, I didn't give him a chance to. I just--just pushed everything down and pushed past him and got the hell out of there.

Jordan: But if stefan hadn't stopped him, you still don't know what he would have done.

Abigail: No. No, I still don't know.

Marlena: Ben, let's go to my office and talk about this.

Ben: What, so you can pump me for some more information? Pass it on to your buddy hope. No, I'll never have another session with you, lady. We're done.

Eric: Hey, you have a lot of nerve coming down here on my mom after she took your side.

Ben: That's all done now. Hope brady's wasting her time pinning this on me. Ciara is out there right now with nobody to help her, and that's on you.

Eric: Get your hand away.

Marlena: Ben. Hope asked me about your state of mind. That's all I talked to her about.

Ben: That's all you talked to her--that's all she needed! I came to you, and I was pretty shook up. And you know that, and I opened up to you. No matter what was going on inside my head, I would never ever hurt ciara.

Marlena: I believe that's true.

Ben: It is. I'm gonna be the one to find ciara. You and hope brady can go to hell.

Marlena: [Sighs]

Roman: Come on. You know marlena's not gonna hold you responsible for what leo does.

John: No, roman. This guy's been making will's life a living hell for months. So how is she supposed to deal with the fact that I may turn out to be this--this punk's biological father. Hell, I don't even know how I'm gonna deal with it.

Roman: You think maybe you should just ask diana if this kid is yours?

John: Probably. You know the trouble with that is? I'm not sure I want the answer.

Diana: Don't be ridiculous. I loved your father very, very much.

Leo: Really? That's why all I ever heard was the two of you yelling and screaming and cursing at each other.

Diana: All couples fight, matthew.

Leo: Sure, it's part of all good marriages, right? Couples slamming doors in each other's faces. Husbands giving their wives the occasional black eye. Wives throwing lamps and books and plates and knives at their husbands, threatening to cut off their most prized possession--

Diana: All right! All right. He was a difficult man.

Leo: Difficult? He was scum! I did you and the world a favor by getting rid of him.

Diana: Oh! You still think you did the right thing.

Leo: Yes, definitely. Even if that means that I have to live with the fact that i killed my father. (Dad) got it?

Tripp: Look, I don't know what's going on here, ciara, but all kinds of people are looking for you, so just--just please call me back, okay?

Claire: C'mon, you know how ciara is. She probably just got to thinking on her long flight home and decided she wasn't ready to face people yet. We don't know what happened between her and theo down there.

Tripp: No, she wouldn't do that to her mom again. She knows exactly what hope went through, okay?

Claire: You're remembering how much you cared about her, aren't you?

Tripp: Well, I'll always care about her. You know that.

Claire: No, I--I know. It's just... I remember kissing you the last time she was gone and you shot me down. So is history gonna repeat itself?

Tripp: No, this is completely different. I'm worried about ciara because she's my friend.

Claire: I know. You're sure that's all it is?

Tripp: Yeah, why are you even asking me this, hm? I'm with you now, claire, okay?

Claire: Okay.

Tripp: All right?

Claire: Okay.

Abigail: I was so relieved when stefan didn't have him follow me. I kept waiting for him to show up, you know, but he never did.

Jordan: You talk about the look that he had in his eye. Was the same look that he had his eye when thomas was born? So aren't you afraid that he might still come after charlotte?

Abigail: No. No, nothing's gonna separate me from my baby girl. And besides, ben thought that he was thomas' father. I mean, he doesn't think that about charlotte. He knows that both my children are chad's, so--so no, it's not the same thing.

Jordan: But aren't you afraid that he might come after your new baby as some sort of retribution?

Abigail: Retribution for what?

Jordan: Thomas would be ben's child if you hadn't cheated on him with chad.

Abigail: Um... you know, I--I can't, uh... I can't think about that. I--I don't know. I mean, whether he has changed or he hasn't change, I have to just not live my life in fear. You know? I need to just move on, and I'm trying to let ben do the same thing.

Sarah: I hope you know that I'm not trying to play games with you.

Rex: No, sarah, you gave me another chance, okay? You let me take you to dinner tonight, hold you in my arms, and kiss you. I--[Laughs] I can be patient, believe me. I'm not gonna like it, but

[Chuckles] I can do it.

Sarah: Thank you.

Rex: I'll drive you home.

Sarah: Oh. Um. Yeah, okay. That's probably a good idea.

[Soft piano music]

There is something else you should know.

Rex: What's that?

Sarah: I--I... I stopped things tonight because I thought it was a good idea. But that doesn't mean that it was easy for me.

Rex: Thank you for saying that, but, sarah, I don't want to do anything that's gonna rush you or pressure you into any situation.

Sarah: No, I-- you know, we've both forgiven each other and I think we both understand that things can't just go back to the way that they were immediately.

Rex: Yeah.

Sarah: But that doesn't mean that they can't be a little better than they are right now.

Rex: Better as in? Better than me taking you home and the two of us spending tonight alone?

Sarah: Yeah. Yeah. That.

John: You know, you're right. Just because the math sort of works doesn't mean... [Sighs] Maybe I'll just let this whole thing go.

Roman: But don't you kind of want to know for sure?

John: If a guy that bad turns out to be my son, yeah, it's probably a good thing to know.

Roman: Forewarned is forearmed.

John: That's a fact. I'm gonna shoot by diana's and see what I can find out.

Roman: All right. Good luck.

John: Yeah.

[Sighs]

[Door shuts]

Marlena: Oh. Hi.

John: Hey, I thought you were headed home.

Marlena: I know, I know, but then I ran into eric and now we can go home together. Unless you have some other plan.

John: No. I'm all yours.

[Suspenseful music]

Diana: I--I can't undo what you did, matthew. But please do not say that you did it for me. Yes, your father and I had problems. But I loved him very, very much. And deep inside, he was a good man, a good husband.

Leo: What? Are we talking about the same person? You gonna tell me he was a good father too?

Diana: No, he wasn't much of a father. But he didn't deserve to die.

Leo: He was an evil, abusive pig.

Diana: No!

Leo: Yes, he was, and I'm sorry if you turned him into a saint now that he's dead, but i remember what he was, mom. He got what he deserved. And if you don't watch out and keep your mouth shut you're gonna get the same thing.

[Soft music]

[Tense music]

Ben: Ciara, wherever the hell you are, I'm going to find you. I promise you.

Jordan: I'm really glad you don't feel threatened by ben anymore. You deserve to have some peace.

Abigail: Well, I really appreciate you worrying about me, but maybe you should check in with ben and let him know you're in town.

Jordan: That's a good idea. It's really late. You probably get up early with the kids.

Abigail: Yeah, let me just take this tray in and then I'll walk you out.

Jordan: We're friends. You don't have to walk me to the door.

Abigail: It was really good to see you.

Jordan: You too. Thank you.

Abigail: Okay. All right, you good?

Jordan: Yes.

Abigail: Okay.

[Soft dramatic music]
