Sarah: Uh, is this a bad time?

Marlena: No, no, not at all. Come on in.

Sarah: Um, I have a 16-year-old patient in the er. He's agitated and disoriented. I could use a consult.

Marlena: Okay, why don't you send me his file? I will take a look, and then I'll come talk to him. Was there something else?

Sarah: If you have a minute, I-I'd like to talk to you about eric.

[Tv playing indistinctly]

Rex: Hey, bro, is that, um-- that, uh, sushi joint over by the civic center-- is that still good or...

Eric: Hey. No, it closed a couple years ago. Really?

Rex: It did?

Eric: Yeah.

Rex: Damn. You have any other recommendations or...

Eric: What, like, for your date with sarah?

Rex: Look, I know that she's not exactly your favorite person in the world right now, but I do want you to know I-I appreciate you trying to patch up your friendship with her. Means a lot to me.

Eric: Yeah, uh, belden's on third. They don't take reservations, so it might be a wait.

Rex: Thank you. And, uh... afterwards, if me bringing sarah back here is uncomfortable for you, just say the word.

[Dramatic music]

[Both sigh]

Tripp: That was, uh...

Claire: [Laughs] Even more amazing than last night?

Tripp: Mm-hmm.

Claire: Tell me, why did we wait so long to do that again?

Tripp: Well, and we almost did it a few months ago, but ciara walked in on us.

Claire: Oh, I know, and she laid that huge guilt trip on us, even though she'd broken up with you.

[Sighs] Well, luckily you don't really have to worry about that happening anymore because ciara is in south africa visiting theo, right?

Tripp: Mm-hmm.

Claire: So we have the place all to ourselves.

[Giggles]

[Knock at door]

Haley: [Clears throat] I, uh--I can make dinner again tonight. And I will not set off the smoke alarm this time.

Jj: No, haley, you don't-- you don't have to cook. And hey, you don't--you don't have to straighten up all the time either, okay? I want you to relax and be comfortable while you're staying here.

Haley: I was thinking that you might not be comfortable, now that you know my secret.

Jj: Why would you think that?

Haley: Jj, you're harboring an undocumented immigrant. You're breaking the law.

Jj: Look, if--if you're thinking that I'm kicking you out, you can get that out of your head, okay? And you don't have anywhere else to go.

Haley: I'll figure something out.

Jj: I think I already did. Now that I know what's going on, I might have a way to help.

Adrienne: This week's circulation numbers are through the roof. Way to get the scoop, girl.

Jennifer: I could've done better.

Adrienne: What? The former da announces she's running for mayor, and you got it first.

Jennifer: Well, that's only part of the story. It turns out, before trask threw her name into the ring, jack was planning to run.

Adrienne: My brother jack?

Jennifer: Yes.

Adrienne: The one with amnesia?

Jennifer: Mm-hmm.

Adrienne: He can't even remember his family, let alone where he stands on the issues. What could possibly make him think that he could actually serve in government?

Jennifer: He's a clean slate. Eve has convinced him that that is an asset in today's political climate.

Adrienne: And what does that floozy know about politics?

Jennifer: Well, she talked him into running, didn't she? And now she is going to whisper in his ear and mold him into exactly the man she wants him to be.

Adrienne: Jenn, you can't let her do that.

Jennifer: I'm not. Jack is. And for the first time, I think she may actually succeed.

[Suspenseful music]

Eve: [Sighs] You know, jack, I'm getting mighty lonely here. Why are you reading up on xander cook?

Jack: [Sighs] I know xander brought me back to the land of the living, but from everything I'm reading right here, he's really a shady character.

Eve: Yeah, we don't have to worry about him 'cause he's gone.

Jack: So why did xander turn me over to you in the first place? I mean, it wasn't out of the goodness of his heart. The guy's a mercenary. So what was in it for him?

Eve: Why are you bringing this up all of a sudden?

Jack: I got a really bad vibe when he was here earlier. I mean bad. What did he really want from you?

Eve: Jack, maybe just what he came here for-- to say good-bye.

Jack: Eve... I may not remember much about my past, but I know now that I was a really good reporter. And with that came this ability to sense the truth out when everyone around me was lying. So please... you're holding something back from me, aren't you?

Eve: Yeah. Yes, jack, I am.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

[Knock at door]

Tripp: Who do you think it is?

Claire: Well, it's not ciara, 'cause she would've used her key, so...

Ben: Hey.

Claire: Hi. Um, look, ciara's not here.

Ben: No, I know. I... which is why I need to talk to you.

Eve: When, uh, xander was here before-- oh, gosh, how do I even put this? Um... he was hoping to get lucky.

Jack: And did he?

Eve: No, jack, of course not. That man makes my skin crawl.

Jack: All those muscles, the accent. You weren't tempted?

Eve: Not one little bit. I made it very clear to xander cook that I'm only interested in one man and one man only.

Adrienne: Look, I get that eve is trying to use jack to hurt you, but how does running for mayor fit into this?

Jennifer: I don't know-- money, power? Adrienne, I'm telling you, when you listen to him talk, he sounds like the old jack. I mean, do you remember when he bought half "the spectator" from diana colville because he wanted to kill every negative story? But that's what he sounds like again. He sounds power-hungry and-- and like a ruthless politician.

Adrienne: Jack hasn't been that man in so long. I mean, your love changed him.

Jennifer: I thought so. I thought that our love was stronger than eve's lies. Maybe I was wrong.

Jack: There's only one man for you? Anyone I know?

Eve: I may have to give you just a little hint.

[Dramatic music]

Before I had the shooting,

Marlena: Why don't you sit down... and tell me what happened?

Sarah: [Exhales deeply] Um... I...I did something in the heat of the moment that I regret very much, mostly because of how much it hurt eric. And I'm afraid that I ruined our friendship.

Marlena: I doubt that.

Sarah: Really? Did eric say something to you?

Marlena: I think you should discuss it with eric.

Sarah: I try, but... he's really upset, so I don't know. I was just kind of hoping maybe you had some advice on how to smooth things over.

Marlena: Well, just the usual advice. Try again.

Sarah: It's just that, uh, things have gotten really awkward between eric and me because I-I got back together with his brother.

Marlena: You did?

Rex: Eric, you hear what I said?

[Tv playing indistinctly] About sarah and bringing her back here tonight.

Eric: No, I'm watching the game.

Rex: Look, I'm--I'm-- I want to be respectful. I don't want to make you uncomfortable.

Eric: Why would I be uncomfortable? I mean, you were engaged with sarah. I mean... you know what? If you want to bring her back here and make out in the middle of the living room, why would I care?

[Knock at door] Dad, hey.

Roman: Hey. Sorry I'm late, but, uh, hopefully these wings, potato skins, and nachos will make up for it.

Rex: Yeah, thanks for the grub, dad. Appreciate it.

Roman: All right, uh... okay. Well, hey, you know? What's better than this? Watching the game with my boys? Okay, not quite the enthusiasm I was hoping for. Is everything okay here?

Rex: It's great.

Eric: Fine.

Roman: [Chuckles]

Ben: Hope was all happy to tell me that ciara's off visiting theo in south africa.

Claire: All right, well, if you know that, then what are you doing here?

Ben: I was just wondering if maybe you heard from her.

Claire: I haven'T. Sorry. Um, maybe her phone doesn't work there, or maybe she lost it. I don't know. Anyway, uh, tripp and I are actually kind of in the middle of something--

Ben: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Listen. Listen. I-I need to talk to ciara. I need you to help me out, claire.

Tripp: Why would we do that?

Ben: Because claire owes me.

Tripp: What are you talking about? Owes you for what?

Ben: I-I thought you knew the real reason why ciara left town.

Tripp: Yeah, I did. Because you started kidnapping people for stefan dimera.

Ben: No, no, my job was only part of it.

Tripp: Oh, okay, then what was the other part?

Ben: Ciara was mad at me because claire here convinced me to team up with her.

Tripp: Team up for what? To do what?

Ben: To break up you and ciara.

[Tense music]

Haley: You can't help me, jj.

Jj: My uncle justin is a lawyer. Look, I-I know you don't want anyone else to know about your immigration status, but he is also someone you can trust.

Haley: My sister is the da. Don't you think if there was any way for her to fix this, she'd have done it by now?

Jj: Maybe.

Haley: What's that supposed to mean?

Jj: When melinda decided to run for mayor, she threw you out on the street.

Haley: I explained why she did that.

Jj: To put as much distance between you two as possible... because if it came out that her sister is undocumented, it would create a huge scandal for her. And that's the last thing she needs right now. So instead of doing everything she can to help you, maybe she's decided to help herself and do nothing.

Jack: While we're on the subject of xander...

Eve: Jack, come on, really? After that kiss?

Jack: Did xander ever mention anything to you about dr. Rolf's experimental drug?

Eve: The one that saved your life?

Jack: No, no, no. I heard that there was another one, some sort of serum that actually reverses the memory loss caused by the first.

Eve: Where did you hear about that?

Jack: From jennifer. She introduced me to her nephew.

Eve: Of course, of course. Little miss nosy jennifer rosie, sticking her nose where it always doesn't belong.

Jack: Did xander ever say anything about a serum?

Eve: No. And why would he?

Jack: I'm assuming that rolf was working on the serum the entire time that he was nursing me back to health at that warehouse in nashville. Xander was there the whole time. Maybe rolf talked to him about it.

Eve: Oh, well, you know, that's--that's doubtful. I mean, rolf was very secretive about his work.

Jack: From what I understand, the entire remaining batch of the serum was turned over to the fda for testing. But did you know that rolf kept a diary? He had this diary, and the chemical formula for the serum was written in it.

Eve: Well, I-I don't-- I don't know. I mean, I don't know the ins and outs of wilhelm rolf's research.

Jack: Did you know that that diary was turned over to the head of the hospital and he misplaced it? He misplaced it. Isn't that something? Right when I need that serum to regain my memory, the only known record of how to make it mysteriously--poof--disappears. How... I can't imagine how anyone could be so careless with something so important. Can you?

Adrienne: Jennifer, when jack gets his memory back-- which he will-- there will be no doubt in his mind that he loves you, not eve.

Jennifer: I don't know. I was with him in the square earlier, and--and we saw will, so I asked will if he would talk to jack about the serum.

Adrienne: Right, how it brought his memory back.

Jennifer: Yeah, and he was really curious. And--and then I told him that it could take years, and then he just got so angry and...

Adrienne: But why? Why? There's still hope.

Jennifer: I know. And I tried to encourage him in that, assure him that no matter what the setbacks, he will get there. But he didn't want to see the possibilities or the potential. He was just resigned... which makes me think he's basically giving up on remembering his past. And as upsetting as it was for me to hear that, I'm starting to think the same thing.

Jack: I wish jennifer had never mentioned that serum. What was the point? I was never gonna get my hands on it.

Eve: Well, jennifer was just trying to offer you false hope, jack.

Jack: She wants me to remember my past.

Eve: Your past isn't important. You are getting a second chance at life. What's important... is your future with me.

[Chuckles]

Marlena: You and rex are back together?

Sarah: You seem surprised. What? Do you think that me taking rex back is a mistake? Please, if you have anything to say, just--just say it.

Roman: All right, so you and sarah are back together?

Rex: Yeah, dad, she agreed to give me another shot.

Roman: Okay, that's terrific. I mean, that's why you came back to town.

Rex: Mm-hmm.

Roman: I mean, that's, uh, great news, right, eric?

Eric: Yeah. It's--it's great. You know, I just, uh-- I remembered that I have, uh, some bills to pay. Uh...yeah.

Roman: Okay, um... you wanna tell me what the hell is going on here?

[Dramatic music]

Tripp: Is this true? Did you and ben team up to break up me and ciara?

Claire: Oh, my god, tripp, no, of course not, okay? I have no idea what this psycho is talking about.

Ben: Look, obviously ciara didn't tell you why she left town. But that's the truth. That's the real reason why.

Claire: No, he is lying!

Tripp: Is he?

Ben: I'm not lying. I swear to god. Why would-- what possible reason would i have to bring that up if it wasn't true?

Claire: Good question! Really good question, ben! Why the hell couldn't you keep your big mouth shut?

Tripp: So it is true.

Claire: Look, it was ben's idea, all him.

Ben: Right, right. So is that why you had to talk me into it, claire? Look at me. When I told you that it was wrong and that I didn't want to lie to ciara? But you just kept pushing and pushing and pushing, because that's what you always do. That's what you do, claire. You push.

Tripp: Unbelievable.

Claire: Come on, tripp. It was no big deal, okay? I promise, it was-- it was no big deal. The--the plan didn't mean anything. Nothing even came of it, all right?

Tripp: Ciara and I broke up, didn't we?

Claire: Yes, but not because of anything that ben and I did, right? A-all we-- look, all we did was just arrange for him and ciara to just spend some time together--all we did.

Ben: And why did you want that, claire, huh?

Claire: Come on, tripp, look at me. Just listen. It was no big deal.

Tripp: It was obviously a big deal to ciara. And you better believe that it was a big deal to me.

Claire: Just listen to me, okay?

Haley: Are you saying that my sister would rather let me be deported than to help me stay here?

Jj: What do you think?

Haley: I think mel took me in, fed me, clothed me, paid for my entire education.

Jj: Look, I-I'm--I'm not trying to trash your sister. I know she must love you.

Haley: She does! Okay.

Jj: But she obviously isn't treating you very well lately. And you're under an enormous amount of pressure because of her... so much that you tried to kill yourself.

Haley: That is not her fault! Oh, she--no, she didn't make me take those pills, okay?

Jj: That is not what I am saying. I'm not saying that.

Haley: Look, I don't blame my sister for all my problems. Neither should you.

Jj: Haley, I didn't mean to upset you.

Haley: Too late. I never should've opened my stupid mouth about any of this. I knew it was a mistake.

Jack: No. I'm sorry, I'M... I'm just feeling claustrophobic.

Eve: What? Jack.

Jack: I need some air.

Eve: Where are you going?

Jack: I don't--I don't know. I don't know.

Eve: Wait, but-- hey, are you okay?

Jack: No, I'm not. I'm just feeling-- I don't know what I'm feeling. I'm overwhelmed. I'M...

Eve: Are you remembering something? I just...

Jack: No.

Eve: Go with you.

Jack: No, no, no, no.

Eve: Jack.

Jack: Please, please, eve. I need to be alone. Please, please.

Eve: Oh.

Roman: Wow, really? You're serious? Sarah slept with-- you know what? It is none of my business.

Rex: No, I just--I'm--I'm just trying to explain to you why eric's so upset. You know, he and sarah were getting real close when she got back to town, and he... he faults xander for nicole's death, so he just feels really betrayed right now.

Roman: How do you feel?

Rex: I don't think I'm in a position to judge after what happened with mimi and...

Roman: And?

Rex: And her sister.

Roman: I didn't even know mimi had a sister.

Rex: She doesn'T. Sarah's sister--half sister. I slept with noelle.

Sarah: Please answer me. Do you think me taking rex back is a mistake?

Marlena: Well, I think only you can decide that. Are you having second thoughts?

Sarah: No. No, but...[Sighs] My mom thinks that I'm punishing myself. She thinks that I'M... I'm settling because I don't think that I deserve...

Marlena: Deserve what?

Sarah: I don't know.

Marlena: [Chuckles] Are you settling?

Sarah: No, not at all. I... I didn't come to talk about rex. I-I... I came to ask your advice, if you think that eric and i can be friends again, or am I just being ridiculous for even thinking that's possible?

Marlena: I don't think you're being ridiculous.

Jj: Haley, opening up to me was not a mistake. You can trust me, I promise you.

Haley: Look, jj, I-I know you want to help. You used to be a cop, and now you're an emt. You like to jump in and save people, just like you did with me when I took those pills. But you can't save me from this.

Jj: So you're just giving up?

Haley: You say that like i started this, like I--like i chose to be in this situation. Do you think--do you think i wanted to come here illegally? I was desperate. I was a child. Both my parents were dead. I had no one. Believe me, if there had been any other option, I'd have taken it.

Jj: Look...[Sighs] There has to be some--some type of--of--of legal loophole.

Haley: No, there's not.

Jj: Haley, you're a-- you're a nurse. You help people. You're a huge asset to this community.

Haley: Not everyone agrees. They call people like me illegals, aliens, criminals. I never should've dragged you into this.

Jj: Wait, haley. Where are you going? Haley.

Haley: Don't worry about me, okay?

[Dramatic music]

Adrienne: Jennifer, I have never seen you give up, especially when it comes to family.

Jennifer: I don't want to do that with jack, but eve has poisoned him against me. She's convinced him that they belong together.

Adrienne: But they don'T. Oh, my god, it's jack. Jack, wait, please, please. It's--it's adrienne. I'm--I'm your sister.

Jack: I know.

Adrienne: You remember me?

Jack: Yes.

Adrienne: Oh, that's amazing!

Jack: We met new year's eve.

Adrienne: Oh, right. It's just so good to see you again.

Jack: Uh, it's--it's nice to see you too.

Adrienne: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to smother you. I just-- you're shivering. Let me get you a cup of coffee. B-better yet, jenn and i were just having lunch. You could join us.

Jack: No, thanks. Uh, s-some other time.

Adrienne: But it's--

Jack: Please.

Adrienne: I haven't seen you since you--

[Sighs]

Adrienne: I'm sorry, jenn. I came on too strong.

Jennifer: No, you didn'T. No.

Adrienne: Yes. It's what I do. And it's been that way with jack and me for forever. I drove him away.

Jennifer: No, you didn'T. It's not your fault that he left. It's mine. It's the same old story, adrienne. I want to pull him close, and he runs away. Maybe there is no pulling him back anymore.

[Soft guitar music]

[Knock at door]

[Dramatic music]

Tripp: Haley?

Haley: Hey, tripp.

Tripp: Are you okay?

Haley: How's your--your arm?

Tripp: Uh, better. Yeah, thanks for patching me up. You're not really okay, are you?

Haley: I've had better days.

Tripp: That makes two of us.

Claire: Oh, my god, you stupid jerk! What, oh, you--you screwed things up with ciara, so you just had to turn around and screw it up for me and tripp, right?

Ben: Claire, I didn't come here--I didn't mean to do that.

Claire: Oh, come on, save it, ben. I know you hate me.

Ben: This isn't about you, claire. It's about ciara.

Claire: [Laughs]

Ben: [Scoffs] Why are you laughing? I-I came clean to her. I told her what I did, I told her why I did it because I thought it was the only chance I had with her. Of course she got mad. I need you to help me make ciara understand that this whole little breakup plan was not my idea.

Claire: [Laughs] And why on earth would i help you, really? You know, also, when you think about it, it's probably too late, 'cause as we speak, ciara and theo are probably getting back together.

Ben: Don't--don't say that.

Claire: Yeah.

Ben: You don't know that. Don't say that.

Claire: You need to get out of here.

Ben: No, you need to help me out, claire.

Claire: No, come on, you need to get out.

Ben: Get your hands off of me, you little bitch. (Cat 1) friskies world...

Rex: Look, noelle and me, it was a while ago. I was still in chicago, and--and sarah and I were having a real difficult time.

Roman: Okay, all right, all right.

Rex: All right, you're right.

Roman: Spare me the details, man.

Rex: All you need to know is that I'm gonna fix it, dad, all of it.

Roman: Well, that's what matters. You and sarah are trying to work this out. I hope you do.

Sarah: You really think that I can fix things with eric?

Marlena: Well, I-I know the two of you talked earlier. Didn't he tell you how he-- how he feels about friendship?

Sarah: No, not--not exactly. Why?

Marlena: Well, maybe he wasn't really able to articulate it. I-I-I know that what the two of you have is important to him. And I know he's hoping you can work through this rough patch.

Sarah: So do I.

Jj: Dad, what are you-- what are you doing here?

Jack: I'M... I'm not really sure.

Jj: Come on in.

Jack: Thank you. Thank you. I'm--I'M... sorry to show up like this. I, uh--I was just out walking, and--wandering, really, and... well, something drew me to this place. I may have no memory of being your father, but I have to tell you, I feel a connection to you that I haven't felt with anyone in this town. I-I don't--I don't know how to say this, but I'm-- I'm glad you're here.

Jj: I'm glad you're here too.

Haley: Let me guess. Girlfriend issues?

Tripp: Not exactly.

Haley: Oh, is it a boy?

Tripp: No, no, it's a-- it's a girl, a-a woman. My ex. She got involved with someone else, and he's just-- he's a real jerk. I just kept telling myself, "tripp, you know, just-- just move on. You know, just throw yourself into something new and forget about her."

Haley: So did you?

Tripp: Yeah, yeah. And it was a huge mistake.

Ben: You don't get to use me and throw me away like a piece of garbage, claire.

Claire: Stop it, ben. You're hurting me.

Ben: You hurt people all the time, claire. You do it all the time, and it has to stop, and it's going to stop.

Claire: Or what?

Ben: You don't want to know that, claire. As a fitness junkie, I customize everything -

[Tv playing indistinctly]

Eric: Where's rex?

Roman: He, uh, went to pick up sarah for their date.

[Soft music]

Eric: Sorry if I was rude earlier.

Roman: Hey, not a problem, all right? Your brother explained to me what's going on between you and sarah, and, uh... I'm really sorry. I know you two were good friends.

Eric: Pass the nachos.

Roman: Sure.

[Dramatic music]

Rex: Hungry?

Sarah: Oh. What are you doing here?

Rex: I know. I'm--I'm sorry. I'm a little early. I'm just--I was excited to see you, and I'm really looking forward to tonight.

Sarah: Me too.

Jennifer: I know that i should just be so grateful that he's alive and here so he can see his children and his grandchildren. I shouldn't even ask for any more.

Adrienne: Sweetheart, he's the love of your life. Of course you want more.

Jennifer: This is a really horrible thing to say, but... I feel like it was easier when I thought he was dead... because he's here, but he's so far away. And I just feel like that's gonna kill me.

Jack: I still owe you.

Jj: [Laughs] Don't worry about it.

Jack: [Laughs] What's troubling you?

Jj: It's that girl we talked about...

Jack: Mm-hmm.

Jj: Haley from new year'S. We sort of had a fight.

Jack: About?

Jj: I finally found out what's been bothering her.

Jack: That's a good thing, right?

Jj: Thought so at first, but... now that I know what the problem is, it makes it a little bit more complicated than before.

Jack: Anything I can do to help?

Jj: I wish there was, but... haley told me this in confidence.

Jack: Oh, I-I won't push. But I mean, I hope that you know that you can trust me. I may not remember you, but... you're my son. My son. And, uh, I hope you know that means you--you can talk to me, really. Talk.

Jj: [Sighs] It would be great to be able to talk this out with somebody.

Jack: Okay, so... lay it on me.

Haley: I know what it's like to finally make a big decision, thinking that it's-- it's gonna make everything better and it just ends up doing exactly the opposite.

Tripp: Do you wanna talk about it?

Haley: Not really.

Tripp: Well, hey, uh, the chef at the café where I work promised me a free meal to make up for giving me this first-degree burn, so... any chance you'd join me?

Haley: I never say no to free food.

[Both laugh]

Tripp: All right. Let's do it.

Haley: Okay.

[Soft music]

Claire: Ben--ben, listen. You're scaring me, okay?

Ben: I'm not gonna hurt you, claire. But I need to talk to ciara.

Claire: Okay, then get on a plane, all right? Go to south africa.

Ben: I can't do that. I don't have a passport. But I gotta do something. I gotta make this right.

Claire: Good luck with that, really. 'Cause take it from me, getting ciara to forgive you is next to impossible.

Ben: I can deal with everybody in this town hating me. Claire, I can deal with everybody in this whole damn world hating me. Not ciara. I have to fix this. I will fix this.

[Tense music]

Claire: Oh, my god.
