Episode #13453 ~ Eric is torn when he finds out Sarah and Rex have reconciled; Leo is horrified when his mother comes to Salem; Melinda Trask threatens Marlena; JJ finds out the details of Haley's secret.

Haley: I'm--I'm beat. I'm gonna take a shower.

Jj: Haley, wait. We need to talk about what you said earlier.

Haley: Can we please just forget about that?

Jj: No. No, we can'T.

[Phone rings]

[Phone beeps]

Sonny: Hey. How come you're calling right back? Is everything okay?

Will: Better than okay. John found leo's mother.

Leo: Oh, sweet mother of god.

Diana: No need to be so melodramatic, sweetheart. You can just call me mom.

Eric: You two made up. Well--how did, uh...

Sarah: Well, I--I, um... I just realized that we've all made mistakes, and... god knows I have. So if...if rex is willing to give me another shot, then... why shouldn't I do the same for him?

Rex: [Laughs] This is really great news, bro. I mean, wh-- why don't you look happy about it?

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Haley: Jj, I'm tired. I don't want to get into this right now.

Jj: Well, you have to. It's serious.

Haley: It has nothing to do with you, okay? So like I said, just forget it.

Jj: You told me you're an undocumented immigrant. I can't pretend I don't know that.

Haley: Why not?

Jj: Because I care, haley. So will you please just talk to me?

Sarah: Eric is unhappy. But it's not because you and i got back together. He hates me... because I slept with xander.

Marlena: Are you upset because sarah slept with a man that killed nicole, or because sarah slept with anybody?

Eric: What are you saying? What? That I'm jealous?

Marlena: No, I'm not saying that. I'm just asking you a question.

Eric: I don't hate you, sarah. That's not how I feel about you at all.

Sarah: You don't hate me? That just comes as kind of a shock, considering you flipped out when you found me in bed with xander, and then you told me that I destroyed our friendship and that you could never look at me the same way again.

Eric: But I don't hate you. I was angry, yes. I was. And you know why. I was just feeling protective of you. You and rex had a big blow-up, so you weren't in a good place.

Sarah: If you feel responsible, don'T. You didn't push me to jump into bed with xander. That was my choice. I-I--I've got to go.

Rex: Wait, we--we just-- we just got back together. You're leaving already?

Sarah: Yeah, you know, my shift starts in, like, 20 minutes.

Rex: Oh, okay. Um, well, can I--can I see you afterward?

Sarah: Um...yeah, sure.

Rex: Great.

Sarah: Just text me.

Rex: I'll do that. Bye.

Sonny: Oh, my god. I mean, will, this could be it: The leverage that we need to get rid of my gold-digging, freeloading, black-mailing husband. Is john with leo's mom right now?

Will: Uh, well, we're not sure yet, but john is on his way here, and I will call you as soon as he fills me in.

Sonny: [Sighs] I-I can't wait for this nightmare to be over. Will, thank you.

Will: I-I--sonny, I love you. I would do anything for you... for us, for our family.

Sonny: I know. It means everything to me. You mean everything to me.

Will: Okay, I'll keep you posted.

Marlena: I hope this means we have seen the last of leo.

Will: You and me both, grandma. You and me both.

Diana: It's freezing out here. Why don't you let me inside?

Leo: 'Cause it's not a good time.

Diana: Then you could at least say hello.

Leo: Hello, mother. What are you doing here?

Diana: You'd know the answer to that if you picked up the phone once in a while when i call.

Leo: I've had a lot going on, so just cut to the chase.

Diana: I was being followed.

Leo: By who?

Diana: A man. Didn't recognize him. But he claimed that matthew cooper was living in salem and now going by the name leo starke.

Leo: What did he want with me?

Diana: I didn't stick around to find out. I gave him the slip and came straight here to warn you.

Leo: We can't talk here.

Diana: Good. For god's sakes, let's go inside before I freeze.

Jj: Here you go. Haley, there's--there's no judgment here. I just-- just wanna know about you.

Haley: I don't even know where to start.

Jj: How about at the beginning? Where'd you grow up?

Haley: In beijing. My father was born in china, and my mom was filipino.

Jj: How did they meet?

Haley: My dad traveled a lot for work. One time he was in the philippines, and he saw my mom across the room, and... [Laughs] Long story short, they fell in love. She gave up everything to be with him in china: Her job... her family, her whole life.

Jj: Were you close with your parents?

Haley: Me and my mom and i had an okay relationship as far as mothers and daughters go, but... my dad was...distant, cold.

Jj: What about melinda? Did you two spend a lot of time together?

Haley: She moved to the states when I was just a baby. My parents didn't really talk much about her. They...they had some kind of falling out.

Jj: So it was just the three of you. How was that?

Haley: It was fine. Normal. I went to school... hung out with friends... played soccer. And then everything changed... basically overnight. My dad was--he was killed in a car accident. My mom was never the same. A few years later, she died of cancer.

Jj: I'm so sorry.

Haley: Thanks. A few days before she passed away, she--she gave me an envelope. Inside was--inside was some money. This super-secret arrangement she'd made to get me to the states and... and mel's contact information. She told me to "find your sister." So when I got here, I called her.

Jj: How did that go?

Haley: She didn't exactly welcome me with open arms.

Maggie: Oh, sweetheart, hi. I was hoping I would run into you today. We need to talk.

Sarah: I--mom, I'm sorry. I'm just rushing. I'm late. Can we just talk later?

Maggie: It won't take a minute. I promise. Um... listen, I got a call from my old friend liz curtis. And she told me what happened between rex and noelle. Honey, I'm so sorry.

Sarah: Yeah, I, uh... I guess rex gave my half sister a heads-up about their little tryst being out of the bag, because noelle has just been leaving me messages and messages, and I just--honestly, I--I can't talk to her yet.

Maggie: Yeah, I completely understand.

Sarah: So did liz call to defend her daughter?

Maggie: Actually, no. She wanted to make sure I knew, wanted to know how you were. I mean, she knew that-- that you and rex were engaged at the time. She thought that what rex and noelle did, uh, was appalling.

Sarah: Oh. Well, um... that's nice, I guess.

Maggie: Liz also hopes that because you're sisters, that you'll be able to work all of this out one day.

Sarah: I mean, I don't-- I don't think that that's a possibility.

Maggie: Yeah. Well, it's gonna take time, of course. But the bigger picture here is that rex brady is a womanizing creep. Not to mention a liar and a coward, and thank goodness you got that awful man out of your life.

Sarah: Yeah, um... the thing is, mom, rex and I are back together.

Rex: Eric, eric. Look, I know you're upset with sarah for sleeping with xander. But you got to cut her some slack, man.

Eric: Rex, let me tell you--

Rex: Look, you of all people have every right to be upset. Xander's done some horrible things to you and your family. But sarah did not intentionally try to hurt you. She'd just found out that I had cheated on her with her sister. That put her on a really bad path.

Eric: I'm well aware of the state of mind that she was in.

Rex: And you tried to help her. And there's nothing you could do, right?

Eric: No, there wasn'T.

Rex: Right. 'Cause that's sarah. It's funny, but in her career as doctor, she's very level-headed, even-keeled. But in her personal life, it's not a chance.

Eric: Meaning what?

Rex: Meaning, you hit sarah, she's gonna hit you back... 10 times harder. She doesn't think. She just reacts. She retaliates. And unfortunately in this case, it was with xander cook.

Eric: There was nothing i could do.

Rex: Listen, listen. That's what I'm trying to say. You want to be mad at somebody, be mad at me. I'm the one who drove sarah to sleep with xander. Not you.

Will: I am dying to know what john found out about leo's mom.

Marlena: [Laughs] I know you are. He'll be back soon.

John: Maybe sooner.

Marlena: Oh!

John: Hey.

Both: Mm.

Marlena: Welcome home.

John: Thank you, sweetheart. Oh, my god, I missed that beautiful face.

Marlena: You can fix it by not leaving.

John: You mean you? Never.

[Laughter]

Will: Okay, all right, all right, all right, all right, love birds. I really--I wanna know about leo's mother.

John: Yeah, I know you do, will. So here is what I've got.

Melinda: Sorry to interrupt. But I need to speak with dr. Evans in private.

Marlena: I know that voice. What? Now?

Melinda: It's urgent.

Marlena: Of course it is. Excuse me.

Will: Okay, listen, I'm-- I'm sorry to keep-- I'm sorry to keep bothering you, but I really--I need to know what you found out when you spoke to leo's mom.

John: I didn't speak with her. In fact, I didn't see her at all.

Leo: Mother, what are you doing?

Diana: Sampling the single malt.

Leo: Are you crazy? Put that down.

Diana: Nice digs.

Leo: Mother, I'm serious. You cannot be here.

Diana: Matthew.

Leo: Stop calling me that. I'm leo starke--no, scratch that. Leo k--

Diana: Kiriakis. I saw the announcement online. Still can't believe you didn't invite me to the wedding. What kind of son excludes the person who gave them life?

Leo: Oh, please. You'd have blown everything straight to hell. Look, lady, I've got a good thing going on here, and I am not about to let you ruin it.

Diana: Amazing how you never miss an opportunity to make me feel loved.

Leo: Oh, save the sad speech for thanksgiving.

Diana: Really? Am I invited? I'll put it on my calendar.

Leo: Don't bother. You and I sharing a holiday together is never gonna happen, so drink up and shove off before somebody sees you. Let's go.

Sonny: Hey, hubby. Who's your friend? (Kevin) I can deduct this, right?

Marlena: I can't imagine what we have to talk about. 'Cause I am completely team abe.

Melinda: Well, you're backing the wrong candidate, but I'm not here to talk about the race.

Marlena: I can't imagine what else we have to talk about.

Melinda: Haley chen. I understand you've been seeing her. I know she told you.

Marlena: Anything that happens in my office is completely confidential.

Melinda: You better mean that. I know she told you about her immigration status. She is my sister, dr. Evans. And if you even think about sharing that with anyone, I will sue you for everything you're worth.

Jj: Sorry melinda wasn't supportive.

Haley: [Sighs] I can't really blame her. She had a new husband, demanding job, and then some kid from china just shows up at her doorstep.

Jj: But you're not some kid, haley. You're her family.

Haley: [Laughs] Melinda didn't see me that way. To her, I was just a complication. When I told her I had nowhere else to go, I--I was telling her the truth, so she was-- she was stuck with me.

Jj: Is that--is that how she treated you? As a burden?

Haley: Yeah. And I was. But...eventually she stepped up. Fed me, made sure I had clothes. She put me through college, through nursing school. She did as much as she could to support me, and I-- I did as much as I could to stay out of her way. But... she decided to run for mayor, everything-- everything went to a whole nother level. Flying under the radar wasn't enough.

Jj: So that's why she-- she kicked you out of her place, out of her life.

Haley: I was always a little worried that my secret would come out, but you know how it is with political campaigns, jj. They dig up everything, and I-- I just couldn't risk it. Everything that my sister's worked for--her campaign, her entire career--I know I couldn't stay here. And there is no way for me to go back to china, no home, nothing. So I only saw one way out.

Jj: You decided to try and kill yourself.

Haley: I know. I know it doesn't--I know it doesn't make any sense, but... at the time, it felt like the only option that I had.

Will: I'm--okay, I'm confused. Grandma told me that you found leo's mom.

John: Mm-hmm. I did. And my contact was keeping tabs on her until I could get there and question her myself, but this gal-- this, uh, diana cooper-- she's pretty slick.

Will: What happened?

John: She figured out she was being tailed; she turned the tables, went right up to my guy and said, "who the hell are you?"

Will: And what did he say?

John: Nothing. He didn't have a chance to get his cover story out, and when she said, "I know you're looking for my son matthew," she said, "where is he? What's he up to?" And my guy said, "well, all i know is he's living--matthew cooper is living in salem under the name of leo starke." And then she gave my guy, who no longer is working for me, the slip. That's why I didn't get to talk to her.

Will: So... you have no idea where she is.

John: I am betting that she has made a beeline to see her son.

Will: You--you-- you think diana's here?

John: My money rides on it.

Leo: My friend here is a, um, personal shopper. One must be thinking ahead to spring, and now that she's taken her commission by way of the bar cart, she's leaving. It was lovely to meet you. We have very different tastes, so I'm afraid I'm gonna have to find somebody else.

Diana: Matthew, stop. He's such a kidder.

Sonny: Ma--matthew? Wait, it--is he?

Diana: Yes, my son. His birth name is matthew. I haven't a clue where leo starke came from. Diana cooper. And you must be the new husband. I read about you online.

Sonny: Sonny kiriakis. It is a pleasure to meet you. Leo, why didn't you tell me your mom was stopping by?

Leo: It was a surprise to me too, but now that mom has had a nice visit and a healthy amount of hooch, it's time for her to skedaddle.

Sonny: Leo, don't be rude. I am so sorry for my husband's behavior. Please stay. Let's talk. There is so much that i don't know about your son. I'm kind of hoping you could fill me in. It was here.

Rex: Eric, I never meant to make things more complicated for you. You've been through a lot. First losing nicole and then xander coming back and then sarah and xander and...

Eric: Listen, how I feel about sarah isn't important. You're my brother. That's priority.

Rex: Yeah, but, eric, if you're not happy, man, then--

Eric: Yeah. I wasn't happy. I was upset, as you can tell. It hurt. But you and sarah found a way to forgive each other, and that's-- who am I to judge?

Rex: Okay, listen, that means a lot to me. Really, I appreciate that, and I know that I've asked you for a lot. You're letting me stay here. You helped me get sarah back. But I just--if I could have just one more favor.

Eric: Okay. What's that?

Rex: Before all of this drama, you and sarah were friends, good friends.

Eric: Yeah. She helped me, you know, after losing nicole and the whole custody situation with holly, but... anyway, it's not what's--

Rex: I'm just asking you if you can be friends again.

Eric: Rex, I don't know if that's--

Rex: Look, you asked me what's gonna make me happy, right? And you and sarah working things out is gonna go a long way towards doing that, so just can you at least try, man?

Maggie: What do you mean that you and rex are together?

Sarah: I know. I know it sounds crazy.

Maggie: Don't you remember how enraged you were when you found out that he had cheated with mimi?

Sarah: Of course. I wanted to kill him with my bare hands.

Maggie: And with good reason! He humiliated you at your engagement party when it came out that he betrayed you with his ex-girlfriend. Not only that--he got her pregnant, and he kept it a secret the whole time.

Sarah: Okay, in fairness, rex didn't know about the baby.

Maggie: But when he came back here a few days ago on a mission to win you back, he knew. The other woman that he had cheated with was your half sister.

Sarah: I know, and when i found out, mom, I was-- I was furious.

Maggie: My point is that rex was happy to go straight ahead with this reconciliation knowing that he was sitting on yet another secret that could blow up at any minute. How can you be okay with that?

Sarah: I'm not. I am not okay. I'm not okay with it. He lied to me. And he deceived me, and he broke my heart. But he's not the only one who's made mistakes.

Maggie: Anything that you've done, it couldn't come close to what rex did. It's not as if you slept with his brother.

Sarah: Mom. I sure as hell tried.

Maggie: What do you mean?

Sarah: The night that I found out about rex and noelle, I went straight to eric, and I-- I tried to get him into bed, and he did what any decent man would do with a woman who was in my state; he rejected me, so.

Maggie: Oh, well, I'm really glad to hear that. You know, you and eric are good friends. Honey, I would hate to see that ruined.

Sarah: It's too late, 'cause I pretty much bulldozed that friendship.

Maggie: [Clears throat] Eric is an understanding man. I'm sure that he thought you behaved like that because you were upset.

Sarah: Yeah, he did. He knew that, and he-- he tried to talk to me, but me being me, I wouldn't listen, and I just stormed right out, and... even despite that dazzling display of maturity and self-control, he called me in the morning to make sure that i was okay, and he must have been really worried about me because when i didn't answer, he came over, and that's when he got really upset.

Maggie: Why?

Sarah: Because... he found me... in bed with xander.

Maggie: [Gasps]

Diana: Oh, I thank you, sonny. Now, tell me, what is it you'd like to know about your new husband?

Leo: [Laughs] Don't waste your time. Trust me. She has nothing interesting to say.

Diana: Oh, I disagree. There are tons of tidbits about matthew, aka leo, that sonny doesn't know.

Sonny: Well, forgive me if I'm wrong, but at some point, isn't it true that leo kind of got in trouble with the law?

Diana: Did he ever. But that doesn't compare with-- why don't you get yourself a drink, and I'll tell you all--

Leo: Stop it! Stop it!

Sonny: Leo. Where are your manners today? We are lucky enough to have a surprise visit from your mother.

Leo: Sonny, save it. I know what you're up to. I'm not an idiot. You start casually asking questions about my mother, some goon starts tracking her down. Is that a coincidence? You're behind this whole thing! You tracked her down because you think you can use her to help you get rid of me.

Sonny: I--I don't know what you're talking about.

Leo: I may not have said the nicest things about my mother, but if you ever think that she would give you anything to hurt me, you are insane.

[Glass jingles]

Diana: Sweetie. Why don't you let me speak for myself?

[Phone beeps]

Sonny: I'm so sorry. Excuse me. Excuse me.

Leo: You've had your fun. Now get the hell out of here.

Diana: [Chuckles]

Leo: Go out the side door, and do not come back.

Diana: Get your hands off me, you little brat!

It's a brand new morning

[Line trilling]

Sonny: Hey. I got your text. What's up?

Will: One of john's men made contact with leo's mother, but then he lost her. John thinks she could be headed to salem.

Sonny: Diana cooper is in my living room as we speak.

Will: Where is leo?

Sonny: Leo's with her, and let me tell you, he is not happy that she's here.

Will: Did she--did she tell you anything about him? Anything that we could use?

Sonny: Well, she started to, but then leo cut her off.

Will: That's good. That means there's something there.

Sonny: Agreed. Now I'm gonna keep pushing lady di until she gives in.

Diana: Okay, let's get something straight. I'm the parent. You're the child. Or should I say parasitic leech. You do not put your hands on me. You do not talk to me in a condescending, dismissive tone. And you certainly do not tell me what to do. Now, apologize this instant.

Leo: Sorry.

Diana: Wait, what did you say?

Leo: I'm sorry, mother.

Diana: Better. Don't forget, matthew, I know things about you that your new husband seems very anxious to learn. We wouldn't want your posh setup to blow sky high, would we?

Sonny: Sorry about that. What'd I miss?

Rex: What do you want me to do? I'll beg. I'll get down on my knees right now--

Eric: No, please, stop. Don'T.

Rex: [Laughs] So you'll do it? You'll patch things up with sarah?

Eric: You know, I--I just think you should forget about my relationship with sarah and focus on yours.

Rex: No, I get--absolutely. Absolutely. I realize now it all--it all starts with trust. Right? No more secrets, right?

Eric: Yeah.

Rex: Whoa, whoa, wait. I'm sorry. Just one more thing. This is not a favor, though. I just--it's actually an apology.

Eric: For what?

Rex: Jumping to conclusions. When I was in sarah's bedroom, and I saw the condoms on the floor, and then I came back here and saw you two together, I-- I just assumed that there was something going on with you two, and I was wrong, so I'm sorry.

Eric: Yeah, don't worry about it.

Rex: You know the reason why I thought that, though, is-- is, you know, you two are getting really close, and as mad as I am about her sleeping with tarzan, I got to admit, if it was with you, it would be a lot tougher to deal with.

Maggie: Eric refuses to sleep with you, and you slept with xander? Have you lost your mind?

Sarah: Look, mom, it is--it is not my finest moment. I just--I--I need to put it behind me and just move on.

Maggie: With rex. Huh. Honey.

[Laughs] Are you sure?

Sarah: Mom, I just told you that I made a huge mistake with xander. Is that a sin that I need to be punished for for the rest of my life?

Maggie: Of course not.

Sarah: Okay. Then why should I punish rex?

Maggie: I--I just want to make sure that you're not punishing yourself.

Sarah: What do you mean?

Maggie: If you're getting back with rex because you don't think you're worthy of being with someone better, well, that just couldn't be further from the truth. 'Cause, you, my darling girl, you deserve the best. You deserve a man who will love you and cherish you and treat you with respect.

Haley: Just... I felt so trapped and I just didn't want to mess things up more than I already had for my sister, jj.

Jj: How messed up do you think melinda would have been had you taken your own life?

Haley: A lot more. I know that now, but... just talking to dr. Evans really made everything so much clearer.

Jj: I'm happy to hear that.

Haley: You know, she'S... she's the only person I've ever shared this with besides you. You know, but she can't say anything because she's my shrink, but... jj, what about you? Can I trust you?

Eric: I hope you know that I'd never take advantage of sarah like that.

Rex: No, I do know that. You're a better man than I am. I mean, that's what happened with me and noelle. She was hurting, and... I was comforting her, and then one thing led to the next, and, well, here we are.

Eric: Now you're moving on from it.

Rex: If you think about it, though, if sarah did sleep with you, I mean, that would be the ultimate payback, right? Like, first her sister and then my brother. I'm just glad she didn't make that move.

[Chuckles] I'll see you.

Sarah: I believe the man who is going to cherish me is rex. And he's--he's made bad choices. But he's a good person. And he's an incredible doctor, and he's great with kids, and he's totally devoted to his daughter, and... he really does love me.

Maggie: He has a strange way of showing it.

Sarah: Mom, trust me, I am-- I am going into this with eyes wide open.

Maggie: Okay. All I want is for you to be happy. That's why I just want to make sure that you're doing what you want.

[Phone beeps]

Sarah: Oh, mom, I have to go. I-- I love you. I love you so much.

Maggie: And I love you too.

[Emotional music]

I love you too.

[Sniffles]

Marlena: You want me to keep quiet because you're running for office.

Melinda: I want you to keep quiet because it's your professional obligation.

Marlena: [Laughs] Right. But if anything got out about your sister's situation, that might keep you from being mayor.

Melinda: Thank you for helping my little sister, dr. Evans.

[Tender music]

Jj: Of course you can trust me, haley.

Haley: You mean that?

Jj: Your secret's safe with me.

[Tense music]

Diana: I would love to fill you in, sonny, but I am exhausted from my trip, and I need to rest.

Sonny: You could do that here. Stay with us.

Diana: [Laughs] No.

Sonny: You can stay as long as you'd like.

Diana: That is very kind, but I think I'd be more comfortable in a hotel. Is there one nearby?

Sonny: There is. Check into the salem inn. Put every charge under my name.

Diana: Oh, you are a very generous young man. No wonder my son set his sights on you. Wonderful seeing you again, matthew, aka leo. We have so much to catch up on. Thank you.

Sonny: You're welcome.
