Tripp: Well, here. Let me see what you got.

Claire: What happened there?

Tripp: Uh, the chef got me with some hot grease in the kitchen.

Claire: Oh, my god. Tripp, I've been saying forever that guy is a threat to everyone who works there.

Tripp: It was an accident. Okay? And kayla's already checked it out and said I'll be fine. And the cute nurse even showed me how to change the dressing myself.

Claire: Really? What cute nurse?

Jj: You didn't have to cook for me.

Haley: Oh, please. You're letting me crash at your place. It's the least I can do.

Jj: Seems like a lot of smoke to me.

Haley: You're an emt, not a fireman.

Jj: And you're a nurse, not a chef.

Haley: Oops.

[Smoke detector buzzing] Oh, my god.

[Buzzing continues]

Jj: [Chuckles]

Ted: Well, hello. This is a welcome surprise.

Hope: Yeah, well... I am a bit surprised myself.

Ted: And why's that?

Hope: Because I just saw you with kate dimera.

Gabi: Kate, hey, it's me. Have you heard anything from the dimera board? No, I need to know if the ceo is going to be chad or stefan. The future of gabi chic depends on it... and so does mine.

[Phone beeps] Hey. Is rafe around?

Eli: Your brother took a leave. He needed to get out the country.

Gabi: The country? Why?

Eli: To be there for sami's son. Apparently he's having a rough time.

Gabi: Johnny? I mean, why didn't rafe tell me?

Eli: I don't know. Maybe he wasn't in the mood to share after what you did to chad and abigail.

Jennifer: Yeah, I want to run the melinda trask story overnight. Ah, it should be very interesting. Yeah, call me later. Thanks. Oh, my goodness. What is this?

Abigail: Oh.

Jennifer: Where did this come from?

Abigail: I know. It's so cute. Chad actually got it for charlotte. He's really trying to win us over.

Jennifer: Is it working?

Stefan: What the hell is taking so long for these morons on the board to make a decision?

Chad: Father always preached patience.

Stefan: Patience is overrated, if you ask me. If they had any guts, they would return me to my rightful place as ceo of dimera.

Chad: And if the company had any integrity, they would keep me on.

[Phone beeps]

[Phone beeps]

Stefan: Well, let's see which of us is right about that.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Jennifer: You know, you never did tell me how it went when you brought charlotte to see chad.

Abigail: Uh... when I got there, um... stefan was at chad's house.

Jennifer: He was living there? With chad?

Abigail: Yes. For now. It's temporary, but it's--it's complicated.

Jennifer: Yeah, it sounds complicated. But how are you doing with chad? I mean... you still love him, right, abigail?

Abigail: Of course I still love him. I'm always gonna love him. I just... you know, I want peace in my life. And I want stability for my kids. And I don't know if I'm ever gonna get that with chad. You know, especially now that he's in this feud with his brother.

Chad: "The board of dimera enterprises has decided to keep you on as ceo effective immediately." I guess I don't have to read any further.

Stefan: No, no. Congra-- congratulations. You must've made a very compelling case.

Chad: You're taking this in stride. You're not flipping the chess board or beating your chest.

Stefan: No. [Stammers] I think it's best to adopt a civil tone.

Chad: That's big of you.

Stefan: Yeah, I mean, especially if--if we're gonna be working together.

Chad: Excuse me?

Stefan: You might want to read the rest of this.

Chad: "The board has decided that, in the interest of stability, going forward, you will be"--

Stefan: "Sharing the position with your brother."

Chad: What does it say?

Stefan: Looks like the board has decided to make us co-ceos.

Gabi: He was probably in a hurry when he was leaving. He'll probably call me when he gets there.

Eli: I'm sure he will.

Gabi: My brother loves me, despite the mistakes I've made.

Eli: Mistakes?

Gabi: Yeah.

Eli: Is that what you call drugging abigail, making everyone think she's crazy; switching the paternity test results?

Gabi: I am well aware of what happened. Thank you, eli.

Eli: Not to mention what you did to my grandma.

Gabi: I don't care what julie says; I did not push that old bat down the stairs.

Eli: You're not helping your case.

[Phone beeps]

Gabi: Oh, no, no. I am not gonna let him take it. Can you tell hope to have rafe call me?

Ted: You just saw me with kate, did you?

Hope: That's what I said. Right here, in the square, not trying to hide it.

Ted: Sorry; I didn't see you standing there.

Hope: Yeah. I need to go.

Ted: Oh, hey, hope.

Hope: What is it?

Ted: Just--I was wondering why it bothered you.

Hope: Excuse me?

Ted: You seemed annoyed by what you saw. Do you have a problem with me talking to kate? So there you are with your depression

Hope: It's none of my business who you talk to. But you did tell me that kate was the one who put stefan up to kidnapping you.

Ted: Oh, yeah. She personally held me at gunpoint and stefan's goons arrived and dragged me off.

Hope: [Chuckles] Then it should be pretty clear why I'd be just A... little confused by seeing the two of you together.

Ted: Kate and I have a relationship. It's very complicated.

Hope: Mm-hmm.

Ted: Kate and i started as business associates, but... soon we became lovers.

Abigail: Chad and stefan are just locked in this duel while they're waiting for the board to make its decision.

Jennifer: Right, and meanwhile, they're both living in the mansion?

Abigail: Yeah. But I've made it very clear to chad that I do not want either of the kids there under the same roof as stefan.

Jennifer: Yeah, and what did he say about that?

Abigail: Well, he understood.

Jennifer: But he's not willing to move out.

Abigail: No, not if it means handing the house over to his brother. I don't think he's ever gonna back down from this fight, even if it costs him me and the kids.

Chad: So how did you pull this one off? Dirt on one of the board members?

Stefan: Well, why is it so difficult to believe that they might want me in this job?

Chad: They want both of us in this job.

Stefan: Yeah, well, maybe they think that as co-ceos we can, you know, check each other's behavior, projecting an image of unity.

Chad: There's nothing united about this family.

Stefan: Because you never gave me a chance, chad. I tried reaching out a hand to you long ago, and you slapped it away.

Chad: If you're so unhappy with the way you've been treated, why don't you walk away? They're not forcing you to stay here.

Stefan: You think I'm gonna give up just like that?

Chad: Why not just crawl under whatever rock vivian found you under? Go back to being sam maitlin. That's a hell of an identity.

Stefan: You'd certainly love that, wouldn't you?

Chad: More than you know. I mean, what's keeping you here? There's nothing but misery. You lost the woman you loved; you lost your child. Why not get away from all that pain? Walk away.

Haley: You look hungry.

Jj: I definitely worked up an appetite trying to keep my apartment from burning down.

Haley: Oh, don't be so dramatic. It was just a little smoke from the oil.

Jj: Mm-hmm.

Haley: You act like I lit your couch on fire.

Jj: Oh, excuse me if I don't want to suffer third-degree burns just to get some chicken with linguine aioli.

Haley: At least I'd know how to treat it. In fact, just today, I took care of a very handsome young guy who got burned in the kitchen.

Jj: Excuse me. Didn't anyone ever teach you that it's bad manners to talk about other guys at the dinner table?

Haley: Sorry. I meant to say that I took care of a very not so good-looking at all guy for a kitchen burn.

Jj: Yeah, you're not supposed to notice when your patients are good-looking anyway.

Haley: It was pretty obvious. But he's dr. Johnson's stepson. I would never go there.

Jj: You mean tripp?

Haley: You know him?

Jj: Yeah, he's my cousin. His dad and my dad are brothers. And for the record, I'm much better looking than he is.

Claire: So tell me about this cute nurse who treated you.

Tripp: Not much to tell. Her name is haley and she's new at the hospital.

Claire: Hmm. You interested in her?

Tripp: Interested?

Claire: Well, yeah. You said she was attractive. So... you're gonna-- you gonna get her number or something?

Tripp: [Chuckles] I mean, well, she was treating my burn, but I guess now that you mention it, I could just probably grab it from kayla.

Claire: Okay. So you're gonna ask her out.

Tripp: I mean, now that ciara's out of town, you know, it might be good that I start thinking about moving on. What, you don't agree?

Claire: [Laughs] No, no. Of course I agree. I just, uh... I thought that if you were going to move on, that it would be with me.

Claire: Tripp, I thought we were getting close. And I feel such a connection to you. And, you know, trust me. I know I've tried to force that in the past, but, you know, lately I've just been letting things happen. And it just feels right. I don't know. Maybe it's just me.

Tripp: No. No, it's not just you.

Claire: Okay, well, I can tell you're holding back. Why?

Tripp: You've been a great friend to me, claire. But with you and i living here and ciara living here, too, I mean, it could get really messy.

Claire: Oh, come on, tripp. Really? We don't even know if ciara's coming back. What if she falls in love with south africa and what if she decides to stay there with theo? Hmm?

Tripp: I guess that's possible.

Claire: Look, I know I'm talking about taking a chance, but I mean, isn't that what life is about? Listen, I think we could have something really good, tripp. We can't let ciara stand in our way.

Jj: Best linguine aioli I've ever had.

Haley: Is it the only linguine aioli you've ever had?

Jj: Maybe. It's still pretty damn good.

Haley: I'll take the compliment.

Jj: The italians do know their food.

Haley: The italians got pasta from the chinese. And I got all my skills from my mom.

Jj: You know, I, uh... I don't know anything about your family. Tell me about your mom.

Haley: She was a mom. Not much more to say. I mean, certainly not compared to your dad's story.

Jj: Yeah.

Haley: So you guys met up for beer? You said you guys connected?

Jj: [Sighs] Yeah, we-- we did. But it was--it's confusing. It's like connecting with a stranger.

Haley: What'd you guys talk about?

Jj: Well, he did mention that he was thinking about running for mayor of salem.

Haley: Mayor?

Jj: Yeah.

Haley: That's ambitious.

Jj: Yeah, he always was. But, um... our talk was--our talk was good, mostly.

Haley: Mostly?

Jj: Yeah. It got a little awkward when we started talking about our love lives.

Haley: Oh, yeah? Why?

Abigail: I may never be able to forgive gabi, but I did make a conscious decision to end the feud between us. You know, because I didn't want that resentment to take over my life. And I realize that I have too much to lose.

Jennifer: And that's-- you're afraid chad is doing that with stefan.

Abigail: It's all he thinks about.

Jennifer: Well, I kind of can't blame him, sweetie. I mean, stefan is the main reason that the two of you aren't together.

Abigail: Yeah, but chad's a dimera.

Jennifer: Yes. And revenge and dimera just goes hand in hand.

Abigail: I mean, he's tried to resist that legacy, but stefan just opens up all those old wounds. And I'm afraid if he goes down that path again, he's not gonna be able to turn back.

Chad: You have nothing left here.

Stefan: Except dimera enterprises.

Chad: It's just a company.

Stefan: Our family company.

Chad: You're not really a part of the family anyway. Father's gone; those of us that are left want nothing to do with you.

Stefan: [Chuckles] That-- that I believe.

Chad: Why stick around and bang your head against the wall; surround yourself with people who really don't like you? Even if you do take control of the company, it'll just be an empty victory.

Gabi: It's okay, harold, you don't need to announce me. What the hell?

Chad: What are you doing here, gabi?

Gabi: Well, I heard about the board's decision. So what does that mean for me?

Hope: You and kate... I don't know. I just, I-- don't see the two of you together. That's all.

Ted: Well, you'd be surprised. Kate and I have quite a bit in common.

Hope: Yeah, I just-- I find it-- I find it a bit curious that you would continue sleeping with someone who had you kidnapped.

Ted: Kate and I are not sleeping together anymore. What you saw was two people talking. Kate made it very clear that she and I are through.

Hope: Oh. What?

Ted: I don't know. To me, you seem a little bit relieved?

Hope: I am. I'm relieved that you and kate aren't together anymore.

Ted: Really...

Hope: Yeah, she's dangerous.

Ted: I appreciate your concern. But for a split second, I thought-- I thought you might be jealous.

Hope: You do have a sense of humor. Good to know. I have no reason to be jealous of kate or any other woman you may try to work your charms on, counselor.

Ted: Okay. Glad to hear it.

Hope: I'm a happily married woman, to an amazing man.

Ted: I haven't forgotten that you're married. I would have to take your word on the "happily" part. It's getting late. I'm sure your amazing husband is waiting for you at home.

Hope: Yeah, actually, he's out of-- out of the country.

Ted: Well, in that case, would you like to have dinner with me tonight?

Chad: My position hasn't changed. I still want nothing to do with you or gabi chic. So you can keep your company.

Stefan: [Chuckles] Only that's not a decision you can make, chad, without my approval.

Chad: You want to hold onto it?

Stefan: Look, the gabi chic brand is a valuable asset for dimera enterprises. I have big plans for it.

Gabi: Oh, yeah, I know about your plans. You want to destroy it piece by piece.

Stefan: What I decide to do with a company that I own is none of your business.

Gabi: Gabi chic is my life's work. Andre, he tried to steal it, and you know what happened to him.

Stefan: Gabi, save the empty threats. Abigail killed andre, not you.

Gabi: Yeah, but you made sure I went to prison for that crime anyway. Seems like I'm owed a free murder.

Chad: You should probably leave, gabi.

Gabi: Don't tell me what to do, chad. The two of you, you stand here like you're gods, like you've got all this power. Well, someone that used to love me told me just now that I-- I'm not the person I used to be. Well, that's good. See, because this new person she's not gonna be pushed around by you or any other dimera.

Abigail: It's just so hard to say whether or not I'm ever gonna be able to really forgive chad. You know, I would need to know that he's really, truly trustworthy, and he would need to trust me again. And ultimately, I'd just need to know that-- that he's back to being that man that I first fell in love with.

Jennifer: I know the feeling.

Abigail: You miss dad? I mean, real dad.

Jennifer: Yeah. Almost as much as when he was gone.

Abigail: Have they made any progress with getting his memory back?

Jennifer: Kayla came by earlier, and it doesn't look like we're gonna be able to get our hands on dr. Rolf's serum.

Abigail: It's gone?

Jennifer: The serum is tied up with the fda, and then rolf's diary with the original formula has been misplaced.

Abigail: I still believe in dad. I do. I think that that man is still there inside him. And we all just have to work together to figure out a way to bring him back.

Jj: [Sighs, scoffs] My dating history is... it's complicated.

Haley: Uh-oh. What does that mean?

Jj: Let's just--let's just-- let's just say I've made some mistakes. But I've grown up a lot. And I've learned from them.

Haley: Come on. Don't-- don't be all coy with me now. Share. Just one name. One story. And I promise if you give me a good one, I won't bug you for any more.

Jj: One name...

Haley: The worst one. The biggest mistake you ever made.

Jj: Okay, fine. I slept with eve donovan.

Haley: Wait. Are you talking about that woman from-- that lady from new year's eve?

Jj: Yeah.

Haley: You slept with that witch?

Jj: Yeah.

Haley: But now she's involved with your dad.

Jj: Yep.

Haley: [Scoffs] This--this is good. No wonder you said your love life was an awkward topic with your dad.

Jj: Yeah, it'S... not something I'm proud of.

Haley: Of course. So... what was she like? How'd you guys meet?

Jj: We met when she-- she found my missing wallet. She was a really good person. Excellent musician, too. She actually, uh, she pushed me into pursuing the guitar.

Haley: You play? I thought that was just a prop to make you look cool for the ladies.

Jj: Did it work?

Haley: I don't know. Why don't you play for me, and I'll let you know?

Gabi: I know you didn't offer gabi chic to me out of the kindness of your heart.

Chad: I did it for ari. And because I want you out of my life.

Gabi: All right, so find a way around stefan. Get gabi chic away from him.

Chad: Believe me, this isn't the arrangement that I wanted either. I wanted to cement my place as ceo and get rid of stefan for good, but the board had other plans.

Gabi: So, what, you're gonna let him destroy the business I built with my hands?

Chad: Honestly, I have more important things to worry about.

Stefan: It's a tough situation you're in there, gabi. I mean, you--you almost got gabi chic back. Instead, now you're forced to stand by and watch helplessly as I fly it nose-first straight into the ground.

Gabi: I'm never gonna let that happen.

Stefan: Well, there's really nothing you can do to stop me. There is one other option, though. I'm not sure if chad mentioned it to you.

Gabi: What are you talking about?

Stefan: Well, chad and i are going to be butting heads over dimera for quite some time. But you're welcome to quit any time you like.

Hope: I'm tired, and I have a stack of paperwork waiting for me at home. And I also want to facetime with my daughter in south africa before bed-- oh, yeah, all that laundry I have to catch up on.

Ted: Hope, one excuse would've sufficed. If you don't want to come to dinner with me tonight, just say so.

Ted: Fair enough. But I just wanted to buy you a meal to thank you for protecting me from stefan dimera.

Hope: I was just doing my job, ted.

Ted: And I'm truly sorry I couldn't get the goods on ben weston. Which is why I want to try to take you out. That way, I could repay your kindness.

Hope: [Sighs] I'm busy. I really have a lot of work to do. And that laundry.

Ted: Come on, hope. You could see that my fragile ego could not bear taking another blow tonight. Please.

Hope: Let's go to my dad's restaurant, doug's place. Have you heard of it?

Ted: No. Whatever you want.

Claire: [Laughs] I cannot believe that ciara is keeping us from having a relationship. Wow. Are you really still that hung up on her?

Tripp: No. No, no, no. Ciara and I had our chance. It didn't work out.

Claire: Oh, tripp, you gave her so many chances. But she moved on, first with ben, and now with theo. And we're here.

Tripp: We're here...

Claire: Tripp, I've-- I've felt a spark between us from the moment I met you. There were so many times where I was just so sure it was gonna happen for us. But it never did, because, you know, the timing was never right.

Tripp: No, it wasn'T.

Claire: We never really got a chance to see what we could be together.

Tripp: Now, what if it doesn't work out? What if it's a disaster and we end up hating each other?

Claire: [Chuckles] Okay, well, what if it's amazing and it changes our lives? Tripp, it's kind of like writing a song. You never really know if it's gonna work until you put together the words... and the music.

Jj: I'd rather not play right now.

Haley: Well, I don't care what you want to do. I want to hear you play. Come on. What are you afraid of?

Jj: Nothing. Well, I mean, clowns. I'm terrified of clowns.

Haley: Stop making excuses and play.

Jj: [Laughs]

Ted: So tell me again-- again, why rafe left the country without you.

Hope: He said he needed to be there for someone who was going through a tough time.

Ted: You know, in my line of work, you get really good at knowing when someone is not being forthcoming.

Hope: Mine, too, counselor.

Ted: Well, I can see there is a lot more going on with rafe's absence that you're telling.

Hope: Yeah, well, I'm just telling you what he told me.

Ted: And yet you seem very unhappy with his decision to leave without you. Okay. Okay, I won't push.

Hope: The person in question is sami's son.

Ted: Sami brady? Rafe's ex-wife.

Hope: Yeah. The one and only.

Ted: Now I understand. So... he left you to go help his ex. Aren't you worried that something will happen between them? I mean, she could try to-- try to seduce him again. Right? I don't get it. I don't see how any man could cheat on a woman like you. I will never understand.

Stefan: I'm trying to help you. You've had a terrible year. Don't you think it's time to just pack it in?

Gabi: You really are a sad excuse for a human being.

Stefan: Like you have any ground to stand on after what you did to me.

Gabi: Oh, what I did to you?

[Sighs] No. No, you have no idea what I'm capable of, you son of a bitch. I am--I'm just getting started. I'm never leaving gabi chic. Actually, I'm gonna use it as an opportunity to make your life a living hell.

Stefan: Okay. Well, since I'm only co-ceo, it means I'll have plenty of time to do the same to you.

[Knock at door]

Abigail: [Clears throat] Hi.

Chad: Hey, hey, sorry for the late visit.

Abigail: It's fine, but the kids are asleep.

Chad: [Indistinct speech]

Abigail: Yeah.

Chad: Um... I wanted to give you the news in person.

Abigail: The board made its decision?

Chad: Yeah, they named stefan and I co-ceos.

Abigail: Co-ceo? So that means that he's gonna continue to live in the house?

Chad: For now.

Abigail: Okay, then I'm--I'm still gonna have to insist that if you want to see the kids, you have to come here. Because I'm not gonna have them under the same roof as stefan.

Chad: I know how hard it is for you to be around him, which is why I made the decision that I-- that I made. I'm gonna resign. -Ah, the old crew!

Eli: Gotcha. Well, I came to see julie, but I'm glad I bumped into you. I got some good news. Melinda trask, she just resigned from her post as D.A.

Hope: What? Are you kidding me? Oh, my god. This is amazing.

Ted: Congratulations, guys. I know that this woman has been a thorn in your side for a long time.

Hope: Yes, she has. I hope this time that abe appoints someone that I can actually work with and have a good relationship with.

Abigail: Resign? You're gonna-- so you're gonna give up the house and the job and everything?

Chad: None of it means anything if you're not a part of it. Mind if I go check in on thomas and charlotte?

Abigail: Yeah, sure. Yeah.

Gabi: You think losing gabby and charlotte hurt? I can do so much more to hurt you. When I'm done with you, you're gonna beg me to take my company back and go.

Stefan: Or maybe I can decide to send you back to prison for another murder that you didn't commit.

Gabi: Don't underestimate me, stefan. See, I had abigail locked up, and she was my best friend. Imagine what I'm gonna do to my worst enemy.
