Chad: You practice that pensive look in the mirror?

Stefan: I'm just a thinker by nature.

Chad: I'm surprised you're still here.

Stefan: Well, I'm not going anywhere until the board reinstates me.

Chad: I hope you don't mind watching me run things while the board decides how to drop you because it's exactly what I'll be doing.

Stefan: Well, you care for a friendly game with chess to--

Chad: I'd rather stick needles in my eyes, yeah.

Stefan: What's the matter? Afraid I'll take your queen? Again.

Chad: [Snorts] Abby hates you more than she hates me. You're not capturing nothing.

Stefan: You have a good night.

Abigail: [Clears throat]

Kate: How's charlotte?

Abigail: She needs her mother, so we're done here.

Kate: Well... you know, abigail, you say that you can't forgive me and yet you let gabi off the hook and she's behind this whole thing.

Abigail: I didn't press charges against gabi because i didn't want arianna to grow up without her mother, but I didn't forgive gabi. I'm not gonna forgive you either.

Kate: Okay. That's fine. I can live with that. But for your sake, for your children's sake, you need to forgive chad.

[Cell phone ringing]

Brady: Don't start with me. It's way past your bedtime.

Victor: I just want you to know we're gonna talk first thing in the morning.

Brady: Well, it's kind of hard to talk when we're not speaking.

Victor: Why don't we call a temporary truce.

Brady: Why?

Victor: 'Cause you might want to hear what I have to say. So, see you in the morning. 10:00 A.M. Sharp.

Xander: I have to admit, I underestimated you. It's quite impressive what you've pulled off here, really.

Leo: You mean that?

Xander: Yeah. You have enough leverage to force sonny to marry you and have victor go along with it. I mean...

Leo: It wasn't easy. I paid my dues.

Xander: Give me a clue. What do you have on him? I'm dying to know.

Leo: Are we gonna talk all night? Because I'm starting to wonder whether or not you're actually gonna go through with this.

Xander: Let's have a little drink first, eh?

Leo: Well, what are we drinking to?

Xander: To business.

Leo: To pleasure.

[Groovy music]

[Sighs]

Xander: Okay. How do we do this?

Leo: You just relax. Enjoy it. I'm gonna do all the heavy lifting. And I promise, you won't regret it.

Rex: Sarah was so devastated, chloe, and angry, and just--I've never seen her that upset before, not even about mimi and the baby.

Chloe: Well, yeah, I mean, you kind of doubled down on a girl's worst nightmare. You slept with her sister.

Rex: Oh, god--I can't even hear that anymore. I gotta go after her. I'm sorry. I gotta fix this!

[Soft dramatic music]

Sarah: Please don't stop.

Eric: No, we need to stop before we do something we regret.

Sarah: No. I'm not gonna regret it, and i don't think you are either.

Eric: Sarah--

Sarah: No, please there's a connection between us, and there has been from the start. Are you gonna deny that?

Eric: No.

Sarah: You're in pain, eric. And I am too. Don't you want that pain to go away, 'cause I know I do.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Chad: I'm not gonna leave things the way that they are. I'm gonna get my family back. No matter what I have to do.

Abigail: Hi, harold. Is chad in there?

Chad: Hey.

Abigail: Hi.

[Knocking at door]

Kate: Well, lookie here, salem's latest pariah. Welcome to the club, girl.

Chloe: So what do you think victor wants?

Brady: He wasn't about to divulge that last night. He likes to make me wait. That's part of the fun that he has with me. But he was more conciliatory than usual. Maybe the guy realized he was dead wrong about something.

Chloe: Hm.

Both: Nah.

Brady: Yeah, there's no way, right?

Chloe: So what time are you being summoned?

Brady: One half hour from now.

Chloe: Well, you'd better hurry up, drink that tea. You don't want to be late.

Brady: Yeah, but my grandfather and eve, they were the reason I lost custody of my son. Chloe, I'm done with both of them.

Chloe: So why are we talking about this?

Brady: I don't know, hannah freud, why don't you tell me why we're talking about this.

Chloe: I think it's because you know what you want, but you just want me to talk you out of it.

[Tense music]

[Keys clatter]

Eric: Good morning.

Rex: Did I wake you up?

Eric: Do you care?

Rex: Sorry, man. Just all went to hell with sarah last night. You know, she stormed out on me, and I've been looking for her everywhere. I've just been up all night.

Eric: No wonder you look like hell.

Rex: Thank you. I went to the hospital. Henderson has no idea where she is. I've called her a million times. I've left texts and messages, and I'm getting scared that something might have happened to her. Do you have any idea where she might be?

Eric: Not now. But I know where she was last night.

Rex: Where?

Eric: Here.

Today is the day and it's gonna be great.

Brady: Am I that predictable?

Chloe: Not to other people, but I've been through this dance with you and victor many a time, so here's my theory.

Brady: Eager to hear it. Hit me.

Chloe: Victor's finally realized that you're the only person capable of running that company, so he wants you back asap.

Brady: But--but that would entail admitting he was wrong.

Chloe: I know.

Brady: Well, that's reason enough for me to blow off the damn meeting, chloe.

Chloe: [Sighs] You said that victor knows that you were done with him. Maybe he's finally learned something.

Brady: Hope springs eternal.

Chloe: Oh, come on, I know you want to hear what he has to say at least.

Brady: I--[Sighs] Why are you always right?

Chloe: I know. It's a curse. Face it. I know you better than you know yourself.

Chad: I wasn't expecting you. Nice surprise though.

Abigail: What do you mean? It's your day with her.

Chad: I forgot. I'm sorry. I forgot. I've just had a lot on my mind.

Abigail: Uh, okay, if you, um... if you need me to take her, I can change things.

Chad: No, no. No, no. It works. It's good.

Abigail: Okay.

Chad: It's good.

Abigail: Okay, here you go.

Chad: She's sleeping.

Abigail: Yeah. Made her sleep for last night.

Chad: Was it bad?

Abigail: Oh, god, she woke up in the middle of the night screaming and she was, like, pulling her little legs into her chest, and I started panicking 'cause I thought maybe something was wrong with her.

Chad: Yeah, you're still getting to know her. I remember when I first looked at her eyes. I just--I felt a strong connection. It's just a miracle. I still can't believe she's mine.

Gabi: Are you busy? We need to talk.

Kate: Well, I'm not busy, but I don't know what we have to talk about. I mean, the truth is out, and chad has his child back, so...

Gabi: Don't start with me, okay? We clearly have one goal in common still.

Kate: Really?

Gabi: Yes.

Kate: What's that?

Gabi: The destruction of stefan O. Dimera. In terms of treating sensitivity,

Kate: I don't want anything to do with stefan. I want to stay completely out of that man's orbit.

Gabi: Well, that's gonna be a little hard to avoid seeing as he's trying to take control of dimera again.

Kate: You know the board offered to put me in charge, but I declined.

Gabi: They what? Are you nuts?

Kate: [Laughs] Yeah well, I probably am. I threw it to chad. I thought I owed him that much. Maybe someday he'll even forgive me.

Gabi: Did you see the news this morn--you saw the news, right?

Kate: Yeah, I did. I cannot believe they cleared stefan of all those charges. It's just--

Gabi: Well, he's saying that the board didn't have grounds to fire him, but you do know if he gets the chair as ceo, the first thing he's gonna do is, he's gonna make a list of all his enemies and you're gonna be at the top of that list.

Abigail: Okay, so the nanny's here?

Chad: Yeah.

Abigail: Great. I'll get going.

Stefan: Sorry to interrupt such a tender moment.

Abigail: What the hell are you doing here?

Stefan: This is my home. I came right here as soon as the police told me I was free to go.

Abigail: Wait, I'm sorry, you live here now?

Stefan: Mm-hmm.

Chad: Not by my choice. Believe me, it's only temporary.

Stefan: You are right there.

[Chuckles] As soon as the board is through deliberating, one of us will be out on his ass.

Chad: It's not gonna be me.

Stefan: You're very confident.

Chad: You were stealing government secrets. That's treason.

Stefan: Those accusations are unproven.

Chad: Still, I highly doubt the board wants a wild card in a position of power.

Stefan: Look, I know that my methods are a bit unorthodox, but unlike you, I get things done.

Chad: Was that like stefan-speak for blackmail?

Stefan: [Laughs] Bla-- please don't tell me you're claiming the moral high ground here. You knew that your best friend kate was behind the sexual harassment suit against your best friend sonny. That's why victor fired you. That and of course you nearly bankrupted all of titan industries trying to settle a score with me.

Chad: Well, I'm making amends for my actions.

Stefan: Admitting guilt? Making amends? That's a rather weak position. Too weak for the ceo of a multi-national company. I'd be looking for work and a new place to live if I were you.

Chad: I'm not going anywhere.

Stefan: We'll see about that.

Brady: What do you want?

Victor: Thank you for being punctual.

Brady: You're welcome. What do you want? I'm waiting.

Victor: How was your visit with my great-grandson?

Brady: It was fine. Tate's getting settled in, and he's learning how to swim, and he loves his preschool.

Victor: And theresa's mother?

Brady: Still dying.

Victor: You don't happen to have a picture, do you?

Brady: Sure. It's the most recent one.

Victor: [Chuckles] He's a dodgers fan?

Brady: Well, you always said theresa was a bad influence.

Victor: Looks like a wonderful boy. I'm sure you miss him terribly.

Brady: I'm not gonna discuss my feelings for my son with you.

Victor: Listen, I know you haven't forgiven me.

Brady: Why am I here?

Victor: I want to offer you a job.

Brady: [Laughs] If you think I'm gonna fall for that again, you're out of your--

Victor: Just let me finish. I want you to come back to titan as it's ceo.

Eric: Well, sarah showed up here last night angry at me because I helped you have time with her alone.

Rex: Hey, really, I'm sorry i dragged you into this mes--

Brady: Yeah, well, at least the lie that you told me to tell her turned out to be the truth. Xander did get released.

Rex: I heard. I'm sorry about that too.

Brady: Yeah, well the whole town will be sorry.

Rex: So what did sarah tell you?

Eric: That you not only got mimi pregnant but that you also slept with her sister, noelle. That's real classy.

Rex: You know, I cannot even begin to tell you how much i regret that.

Eric: Yeah, well, good for you. Man, a lesser man would sometime not even feel remorse.

Rex: You don't--you don't know the circumstances at the time, eric.

Eric: You know what, I don't even want to hear about it.

Rex: [Stammers] I didn't think that sarah and i were even gonna make it.

Eric: Hey, did you even hear what I just said?

Rex: Yeah, I did. You're my brother, eric, and i don't want my own brother thinking I'm some--please-- thinking I'm some heartless bastard who does reckless and stupid things. I was an idiot, okay? I shouldn't have even looked at another woman, much less sleep with one.

Eric: You are too.

Rex: I said I was an idiot, and I meant it. I admit that part, but what i won't admit to is that I somehow tried to hurt sarah on purpose. The fact of the matter is that during the time that I was unfaithful to her I just felt like I didn't deserve her. I know that that sounds like some sorry, lame ass excuse, but it's true. You know, there are a lot of aspects about our relationship at the time that were very good. They were very positive, and we loved each other, but... she was so hypercritical of me. Like I was too quiet when-- when I was hanging out with her friends or I wasn't funny enough. My jokes weren't good enough. I needed to be more of an extrovert or more demonstrative with her, like I needed to hold her hand more or tell her that i loved her more. It'S... it's like I constantly felt like I couldn't measure up. And I was just being judged.

Eric: Did you tell her that?

Rex: No. No, I didn'T. And I realize that that was a problem 'cause those feelings were just building up inside and festering, but you know sarah. She's a very, very strong willed and assertive person, and I felt like if i brought this up with her, she would think that I was just complaining, that she would criticize me more and she'd think that I wasn't the right guy for her.

Eric: Rex, why are you telling me this?

Rex: Again, 'cause you're my brother. And, eric, I don't want you to think that I'm a horrible person. When I slept with mimi and noelle... god, I was really screwed up in the head. I felt... I just felt unworthy, you know? Like unsure of myself, and like, "oh, sarah's just gonna leave me anyways, so it'S..." are you bored? Am I getting through to you at all right now?

Eric: You expect me to be empathetic to you? You know, for you sleeping with your fiancée's sister because you felt insecure at the time.

Rex: Okay, you know, so no empathy at all? That's cool, man. Fine. You know what? Just forget it. Forget the whole thing. Just tell me one thing. How was sarah when you saw her?

Eric: Sarah, I know that you're mad.

Sarah: Rex slept with my sister which is the worst kind of betrayal imaginable, and i want him to know what that kind of betrayal feels like. And I know this is gonna make me feel a whole lot better.

Eric: How do you think she was? What, do you want me to draw you a picture?

Rex: Yeah. Yeah, I do.

Rex: Come on, eric, draw me that picture. How was sarah when you saw her?

Eric: Why the hell should I?

Rex: Why?

[Stammers] 'Cause I just opened up to you about the worst mistakes that I've made in my life, hoping that you would get it, maybe even relate. That even though what I did was unforgivable, reprehensible, that maybe you would just understand why I did it. What--what the hell is the matter with you, man? Why aren't you saying anything? What is it you don't want me to know?

Eric: Sarah. You don't want this.

Sarah: No, don't tell me what I want.

Eric: No, I don't want this. I don't want this. I mean, I... I got involved with nicole while she was with brady, and it'd end in disaster if we sleep together.

Sarah: This is different. Rex--rex doesn't care about me. I just want to forget about him. I just want to stop feeling bad. Don't you want that too?

Eric: I don't want to forget about nicole. Ever. Sarah! You're not listening to me. I don't want you like this. What rex did to you is wrong. But you can't wipe away your pain by sleeping with a guy who isn't in love with you.

Sarah: Okay.

Eric: Sarah, let me make some coffee. We can talk.

Sarah: No, I don't want any coffee, and I sure as hell don't want to talk.

Eric: Sarah, are you okay to drive? I can call you a cab.

Sarah: No, don't do me any favors.

Eric: Sarah! She was in so much pain when she left here. She just wanted to forget what you did to her.

Rex: [Sighs] And what, eric, you couldn't do that for her?

Eric: I only offered to make a pot of coffee so we could talk. That's not what she needed.

Brady: You want me back as ceo?

[Chuckles] Where is this coming from?

Victor: Chad dimera was a disaster. I'm sure you've heard.

Brady: Mm-hmm.

Victor: I have to keep the company within the family, so that leaves me few options. Sonny's married to his accuser, so he's out. I'm certainly not gonna turn the company over to xander.

Brady: Why not? I mean, think about the bio in the annual report. "Xander kiriakis comes to titan with a plethora of experience, including locking women in cages and trying to murder them on their wedding days." It's brilliant.

Victor: He also has inside information on dimera.

Brady: No, he doesn'T. He's bluffing.

Victor: I wouldn't be so sure. He got it from eve.

Brady: Eve? Why would she... he let her to jack. Didn't he?

Victor: Probably. Listen, I have to commend her for doing a little espionage while basic black was a part of dimera. Turning over the information she got for jack deveraux, that's just sad. But I digress. The point is, I'm not gonna cave to xander. He's a thug.

Brady: So that's why you called me. You're desperate. You're desperate for a ceo, and I just happened to be in the right gene pool.

Victor: I want you because i want you to do what you do best: Run the company better than anyone. What do you say?

Chad: Stefan, abby and i would like some alone time with our daughter.

Stefan: How is charlotte? I mean, she is my niece after all, my own flesh and blood. For months I believe she was mine, so I'll always have a special place right here in my heart for her.

Abigail: You should work on finding someone else to occupy that space because you're never gonna have anything to do with my daughter again.

Stefan: You know what, abigail, you've been through an awful lot. That's probably why you're overreacting.

Abigail: Overreacting? Stefan, you put me through hell. Remember?

Chad: You need to go. You need to go.

Abigail: I go. As long as he's in this house, charlotte and I will not be.

[Tense string music]

Rex: I told you, eric. I talked to henderson. He hasn't seen sarah.

Eric: Maybe she got there after you left.

Rex: That's a good point. You know what, I'm gonna head over there.

Eric: You don't think after what you did she might need some space?

Rex: I have to fix this.

Eric: You slept with her sister. Do you really think that can be fixed?

Rex: She has to forgive me, eric. But you're right. Thanks for listening. Really, I appreciate it. I need a shower.

[Mysterious music]

[Line trilling]

Eric: [Sighs] Hey, sarah, it's me. Rex is here, and he's really worried about you. So am I. Hey, I was a little harsh with you last night, and I'm sorry. So when you can, please call me.

Kate: It's really so considerate of you to warn me about stefan, but have you ever considered the fact that you orchestrated almost all of his misery?

Gabi: I mean, you shot his mother.

Kate: Yeah, but that was an accident. Well, I just want you to know that told chad that you blackmailed me into helping you.

Stefan: Why would you do that?

Kate: So you would no longer have any power over me.

Stefan: So let me guess. You convinced him that you were the victim.

Kate: No, he knows that i sabotaged him. There's really no way to spin that. He was like a son to me, and now I've probably lost him forever.

Stefan: A lot of that going around these days.

Kate: Oh. So now you know what it feels like to lose a child. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Stefan: Get the hell out of my house, kate.

Kate: I'm going. One more thing. Your mother's death? It was no accident. And she deserved it. Happy new year. Nope. I think you're the one who's going to have trouble with him.

Gabi: I can handle stefan dimera.

Kate: Really?

Gabi: Yes.

Kate: Even if he's reinstated as ceo of dimera? Because you're unemployed. You have no power base. You have arianna to think about. I think that makes you very, very vulnerable.

Gabi: The board's just not gonna give him that job.

Kate: Well, you see, I have worked really closely with the chairman of the board, mr. Shin, and he can do pretty much anything he wants to.

Gabi: Really? Okay, well then you can be the perfect person to make sure that he doesn't do something stupid.

Kate: [Chuckles] Don't start with me, gabi.

Gabi: No, really. You're just gonna sit back and let him replace chad with stefan? I mean, if you do that, you can say good-bye to making up with chad 'cause we're gonna be caught in the crosshairs.

Kate: [Laughs] Okay, now I get it.

Gabi: Get what?

Kate: Well, you didn't come here just to warn me. You came here to get my help to help you get out of the mess that you made.

Abigail: Chad, why don't you have harold bring my car around?

Stefan: Oh, come on now, you crazy kids, don't fight over me. Just on my way to the breakfast room. You care to join me?

[Charlotte whines] I'll take that as a no.

Chad: I hate it as much as you do, but it's temporary.

Abigail: You can't make that promise. I mean, shin could very easily say that he is in and you are out. Have you even thought about what you would do if that happens?

Chad: I'll figure something out.

Abigail: What?

Chad: I don't know. I don'T... I just--you and the kids will always come first, and I promise that the three of you will never have to deal with stefan again, all right? I just need you to be patient.

Abigail: Patient? And what, trust you?

Chad: I know that you can take care of yourself and the kids. I know I'm asking a lot. And we have a long road ahead of us. Hey. Wherever that road leads, I... will you just trust me to protect you guys?

Abigail: [Sighs] I will on one condition.

Brady: So what's the plan this time? What, are you gonna make me the make the place holder until sonny gets his life back on track?

Victor: There is no plan.

Brady: There's always a plan with you.

[Door slams]

Eric: Brady. I thought victor would be alone.

Brady: He will be shortly.

Eric: I was looking for sarah.

Victor: Second floor, second door on the right.

Eric: Thank you.

Brady: Eric. I just wanted to say to you I'm sorry that xander beat the rap. For marlena and for nicole.

Eric: Me too.

[Somber music]

Victor: Well, you gonna take the job or not?

Brady: Not.

Victor: Why?

Brady: Because I know what's gonna happen. I'll come on as ceo. I'll straighten out your mess. I'll get the company going again, and then when things are fine, you'll find some reason to believe that I'm unnecessary, and you'll fire me once again. I'm not going through it again.

Victor: Damn it, this is family!

Brady: Fam-- you know what family doesn't do? Family doesn't stash a bunch of illegal drugs in the same room that his son's mother is staying in. Family doesn't sneak into wedding and show a church full of people a video of his brother having sex with his bride.

Victor: All right, my planning may leave something to be desired. But my motive was always to protect you because--

Brady: Because you always think that you are right.

Victor: Because I promised your dying mother that I would do my best to take care of you.

Brady: Well your best sucks. But you kept your promise so you're off the hook.

Victor: All right, you made your point, all right?

Brady: What's the point that I made?

Victor: I miss having you in my life. I sincerely wanted to do things differently. I just hope to god it's not too late.

Brady: It's because you need a new ceo.

Victor: Because I need you. Titan is a mess. And you're its only hope. What do you say?

Abigail: Shh.

Chad: Your car is out front.

Abigail: Listen, as long as stefan is in this house, I have to insist that you come to my mom's house when you want to see the kids.

Chad: Whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Abigail: Okay. She's gonna wake up soon. I have to go.

Chad: Bye, sweetie. Daddy loves you.

Abigail: Oh, okay. Shh, shh, shh, shh.

Chad: Hey, I promise you that stefan is gonna be out of our lives for good soon.

Abigail: I hope you're right.

Chad: I got it, I got it. I'll walk you out.

Gabi: Okay, fine, yes. It is about me.

Kate: Thank you.

Gabi: You need to call shin. Okay, you have to call whoever you need to call, lobby for chad, get him that job.

Kate: What's in it for you?

Gabi: Chad offered me my company back. Then stefan gets released and he puts the break on the deal.

Kate: Why would chad do anything for you?

Gabi: I basically begged him. He knows that gabi chic is my only way of making a living in this town.

Kate: So even after what you did to abigail--

Gabi: Yes, even after what i did to abigail. Chad's a forgiving man.

Kate: Must be.

Gabi: So c'mon, are you gonna do this or not? You can do this, kate. You can. I mean, they wanted you as a ceo. I mean, your opinion must be very valuable to them.

Kate: I will.

Gabi: You will?

Kate: I'll help.

Gabi: Thank you.

Kate: Not for you. For chad.

Gabi: Fine. Whatever. Just make the damn call.

[Line trilling]

Abigail: Shh, shh, shh.

Gabi: Abigail.

Abigail: Hi, I knew I'd run into you eventually one of these days. You gonna offer me one of your famous cups of tea?

Gabi: No. No, but I'm guessing you heard that chad and stefan are going head to head over who's going to be ceo.

Abigail: I'm not discussing this with you.

Gabi: Well, for what it's worth, I hope chad wins.

Abigail: Well then we have one thing in common.

Stefan: Abigail and the baby leave?

Chad: She doesn't want to be under the same roof as you. I told her that you wouldn't be here for much longer.

Stefan: You know, chad, you talk a damn good game. But I have a better track record, and trust me, you'll be the one packing his bags.

Chad: We'll see about that.

Victor: If you're trying to make me crazy, it's working.

Brady: This time... it has to be different.

Victor: You'll do it?

Brady: No playing one family member against the other, okay? It's my vision for the company, and no one else's, not sonny's, not philip's, not xander'S. I don't care what he has on dimera.

Victor: Done.

Brady: I'm gonna need a contract that expresses that, or I don't sign a damn thing.

Victor: I'll have justin draw it up this afternoon.

Brady: [Scoffs] All right.

Victor: [Laughs]

Brady: Oh, god, why are you snickering like that?

Victor: Oh, xander. He's in for a big surprise when he finally gets up.

[Laughs]

Leo: Mm. Somebody's already awake.

[Suspenseful music]

Xandy? Where are you?

Rex: Mom.

Kate: Honey.

Rex: [Laughing]

Kate: You know I don't appreciate hearing from your father that you were back in town.

Rex: I really--mom, I'm so sorry about that, that I haven't come to see you.

Kate: Oh, no, I know you are. So roman told me that you came back to salem 'cause you're trying to convince sarah to change her mind. How is that going?

Rex: Yeah, I--um, well, I was making some pretty good headway.

Kate: That's past tense.

Rex: Yeah, it all kinda went to hell.

Kate: Honey, what'd you do?

Rex: It's not really "what." It's more like "who."

Kate: [Groans]

[Soft dramatic music]

Eric: Sarah? Sarah, are you in there?
