Episode #13443 ~ Eric explodes when he learns Xander is alive. Will turns to John for help with Leo. Leo presses Xander to accept his indecent proposal. JJ urges Haley to open up about her secret.

Marlena: Hmm? See what?

John: You are eyeing my pancakes.

Marlena: What? You're so silly. I'm completely happy with my omelet.

John: Whatever you say. And I think you know that your omelet would go a hell of a lot better if you had a couple of these.

Marlena: No. What have you done? Oh, my gosh. Two tickets to the revival of "kiss me kate" in chicago.

John: Mm-hmm.

Marlena: I've been dying to see this.

John: I know you had, and a couple hundred times. [Laughter]

Marlena: Sorry. Oh, my gosh. What's the occasion?

John: You. Thanks to xander cook, I almost lost you last year, sweetheart. So I made this decision that the rest of our lives together is going to be nothing more than an extended honeymoon, because as I've said before, I am never going to take you for granted again.

Leo: Morning, sunshine.

Xander: The hell are you doing here?

Leo: I thought we could discuss my offer. A roll in the hay in exchange for the leverage I used to get sonny to marry me.

Xander: Yeah, I'm still mulling it over.

Leo: Oh, come on. I know how badly you want to be in charge of titan. If you'd like, we could seal the deal right now.

Sonny: Any luck tracking down leo's mom?

Will: Not yet. Maybe you could bring her up to leo again? He might let something slip.

Sonny: I doubt it. Last time I tried, he completely shut down, but that's why i think there's something there that we can use against him.

Will: I hope so. The sooner we get leo out of our lives, the sooner you and i can be together. Sonny, being apart from you, it's killing me.

Sonny: It's killing me too.

Will: Any chance you can sneak away today? I'd love to see you.

Sonny: Yeah, I'll try.

[Door slams] Someone's coming. It might be leo. I gotta go. I'll be in touch. Oh, sarah, hey. Good morning.

Sarah: Good morning. Expecting someone else?

Sonny: Ah, yeah, my-- my husband.

Sarah: Well, no wonder you're so relieved to see me. Why did you marry that creep anyway?

Sonny: You know, it's kind of hard to explain. I thought leo was out of my life for good, and then he just kind of swooped back in and wouldn't take no for an answer.

Sarah: [Scoffs] I can relate.

Sonny: How so?

Sarah: Um, well, another creep moved back home to salem last night. And he's determined to win me back.

Rex: Morning, man.

Sarah: You told me once that being with me was easy, and I feel the same way about you.

Rex: Eric? You all right? You're like a million miles away right now. Something on your mind?

[Sizzling]

Jj: Hey. You're awake.

Haley: Just woke up.

Jj: I hope you're hungry. Breakfast will be ready in, uh, two minutes.

Haley: Sure. Smells great. Thank you so much for letting me crash here. I don't know how to repay you for having to crash on the couch.

Jj: Maybe you can start by giving me some answers.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Xander: Sonny married a real prince, didn't he?

Leo: Some might even say queen who isn't afraid to use her power and influence to go after what she wants.

Xander: You certainly are ambitious.

Leo: Just like you. I think we have a lot in common.

Xander: Yeah, accept for the whole homosexuality thing, eh?

Leo: Oh, don't be so sure. You seem like a guy who would try anything once, especially if it would help you achieve your goals. So, what do you say? Are you in?

Xander: Sorry. I need some time to think about it.

Marlena: I hope I never hear the name xander again.

John: Well, doc, you gotta look on the bright side. The guy did us a courtesy of getting himself blown up in that explosion so he's not gonna hurt us or our family ever again. Right? Okay.

[Cell phone rings] Ha ha ha. It's paul. Do you mind?

Marlena: No, no. Give him my love.

John: I will. And keep your mitts off my pancakes.

Marlena: What about your bacon? Maybe just a little bit of bacon.

Will: Ooh, that looks good.

Marlena: I'd offer you some, but it's john's, and you know how he is about his food. Oh, well. Sit down, join me. I spoke to your mom last night.

Will: So did I, actually.

Marlena: I asked her to call you.

Will: Oh. Thank you. Yeah, um, she said apparently ej's recovery is going slowly. He's not able to communicate yet.

Marlena: That must be so difficult. Having the man you love right there, so near, so far.

Will: I know how that feels.

Sonny: So rex uprooted his entire life to come back and win you over?

Sarah: Apparently he can't live without me.

Sonny: Well, what did you say?

Sarah: Something along the lines of "go to hell."

Sonny: Ouch.

Sarah: Ouch what? He got off easy, if you're asking me. He's lucky I didn't slap him again.

Sonny: Okay, so he did screw up, but did you ever think about giving him a second chance?

Sarah: Why would I?

Sonny: I mean, will says his uncle is a decent guy. And rex realizing that you're the one, he came all the way back here to fight for you-- it's kind of romantic, don't you think?

Eric: Yeah, I was just, you know, thinking about sarah. You know how caught off guard she was when you showed up.

Rex: Yeah, I was kind of caught off guard as well. I mean, I show up here and she's at your place at that hour. Wearing your shirt.

Eric: I hope you know there's nothing going on between us.

Rex: I know, I'm just messing with you. But you two are obviously friends.

Eric: Yeah, I guess so.

Rex: Well, that's good. 'Cause remember I said last night I'm in clear need of some outside assistance in winning sarah back, so I was hoping you could help me with that. So there you are with your depression

Melinda: Haley, I'm sorry I had to kick you out, but I hope you can understand. Just call me and let me know you're okay. But whatever you do, keep your mouth shut.

Abe: Well. Ms. Trask. I've been looking for you.

Melinda: Why?

Abe: I was told you went to abigail deveraux's home. You were trying to badger her into cooperating with your case. You even threatened her. Is that true?

Melinda: Damn right it is.

Haley: Oh.

Jj: Famous scrambled eggs.

Haley: Thank you. I am starved.

Jj: So... am I going to get any answers for my troubles?

Haley: Depends on how good these eggs are. Okay, look, my life is not that interesting. Okay, I'd rather hear more about your dad. I mean, come on, what could be more interesting than someone coming back from the dead?

Jj: I don't know if "interesting" is the word I'd use.

Haley: Yeah. Completely unreal is more like it. So? How's all that going?

Jj: Oh, we actually had a nice family dinner together, just the four of us, right before I ran into you and your--

Haley: Fellow chinese-american?

Jj: You don't actually think I bought that, do you? I know you and melinda are related.

Haley: Because we're both chinese? That's a pretty racist assumption, you know.

Jj: It's an assumption I made because I heard melinda say it. Then she flipped out when i thought she was your mother.

Haley: Yeah. That was the highlight of my night.

Jj: So if she's not your mom, then she must be your sister? I'm gonna take that as a yes. So I'm guessing you're living with her. You two got into a fight. That's why you showed up here last night with no place else to go.

Haley: Jj, you don't know what you're talking about.

Jj: Except I think I do. So what did you two fight about?

Will: I've been trying to track down leo's estranged mom. Sonny and I think that he's hiding something about her, and if we can figure out what that is, then maybe we can use it as leverage.

Marlena: And sonny can get out of his loveless marriage.

Will: Exactly. Unfortunately, though, I have hit a dead end.

Marlena: That's an easy fix. Just ask john.

Will: Well, I-- I don't know if I'd be comfortable with that.

Marlena: Why not?

Will: Well, because I don't have a right to. Not after, you know, what I did to paul.

Marlena: Honey, you love who you love, and certainly john understands that.

John: John understands what?

Marlena: Will needs your help.

Sarah: Rex is really good at the grand gestures, but he's just not great when it's the day-to-day relationship stuff. So for him showing up and declaring his love for me, it just kind of rings hollow, you know?

Sonny: I'm sure he knows it's not going to be easy. He's gonna have to work for it.

Sarah: Yeah, that's what he said.

Sonny: So...

Sarah: Sonny, there's a baby now, a living, breathing child that was conceived when rex and i were together, and not with me. I mean, don't you think that that might be hard for me to get over? And honestly, you are giving him way too much credit. I mean, yes, rex is very smart, but he's always had things come his way, and he's gotten used to it. In reality, he is just another neanderthal walking around all cocky, just used to taking whatever he wants.

Xander: Hmm. Yum. Mmm.

Rex: What do you say, bro? You help me out? Getting sarah back?

Eric: How exactly would I do that?

Rex: You know, like, talk me up, say things like, "you missing rex?" You know, stuff like that.

Eric: Well, I don't really know how much influence I would have over her. It's not like we've been friends for very long.

Rex: Yeah, I've been meaning to ask you about that. How exactly did the two of you become buds?

Eric: Well, we were both going through a tough time. You know, what you did to her and me mourning nicole.

Rex: I really am sorry about that part.

Eric: Thank you. I mean, she really helped me through a tough time. I mean, especially when I was thinking about fighting for custody of holly.

Rex: "Fighting" like past sense. You mean there's no more fighting?

Eric: Yeah, I changed my mind. I want what's best for holly, so I thought it would be better for her to be with chloe and parker.

Rex: It's nice that sarah had your back.

Eric: She's a force to be reckoned with. I wouldn't want to be on her bad side.

Xander: Mmm.

Sarah: Excuse me. That was my muffin.

Xander: You're new. We're not, uh, related, are we?

Sonny: This is sarah, maggie's daughter.

Xander: Oh. So we're not blood. Lucky me.

Sarah: Who is this guy?

Sonny: Xander cook. Victor's nephew.

Sarah: Oh, my god. You're the jerk that blackmailed nicole into marrying you. I thought you died in that fire with her.

Xander: Nope. Made it out. But yeah, the missus was not quite so fortunate, but at least I can console myself with all the happy memories we made in your lovely nashville abode. Great sheets, by the way. I love anyone who can appreciate a good thread count. You know, this will sound a bit weird, but having slept in your bed, I feel like you and i already share kind of a special connection.

Sarah: You are truly obnoxious.

Sonny: Yep, that about sums him up. Well, I am going to get going. If he gets out of line, whack him with the fire poker.

Leo: Where do you think you're going?

John: So you want me to track down leo's mother.

Will: Yeah, but--yeah, I could do it on my own.

Marlena: Will didn't want to ask you because of what happened between him and paul.

Will: Yeah, I mean, it doesn't really seem right, because if you helped, you'd basically be helping sonny and me get together.

John: I see, and you think I'd have a problem with that. All right, I'll admit that I did. I had a problem when I found out you were lying to paul, but you know what? Now that some time's gone by, I realize that you were doing the right thing by trying to stay with him, even though your heart was with sonny.

Will: I definitely did not go about it the right way, but I never meant to hurt him.

John: I know that. So does paul. In fact, he wants nothing but the best for you and sonny. Now, how would I know that? I just got off the phone with him. And that's what he said. He's doing quite well. In fact, he's got a date tonight with his physical therapist.

Will: Well, that's great.

John: Yeah. I love paul and I will do anything for my son, but I hope you know, will, that you're family also and I love you too. You need my help. I'm here for you.

Melinda: To be clear, I wasn't badgering anyone. I was simply encouraging ms. Deveraux to do her civic duty and help me put a criminal behind bars. It is my job, after all.

Abe: I see. And is it part of your job to intimidate a victim of crime? You even threatened to go after her husband if she didn't do what you wanted.

Melinda: Ex-husband.

Abe: You were way out of line.

Melinda: Someone around here has to pay for their crimes. I mean, you have guilty people walking out of here left and right.

Abe: And whose fault is that? The last high-profile conviction you got was gabi hernandez, and she turned out to be innocent.

Melinda: You want to know whose fault that was? You and your incompetent police force.

Haley: Jj, I really appreciate your concern, but my situation, it's complicated.

Jj: But I think I've been able to follow along so far. D.A. Trask is your sister. She threw you out of the house, and... wait, is it because she's the D.A. That she doesn't want people to know you're related? What? You some kind of master criminal?

Haley: Okay. You caught me. I'm secretly a mob boss. I run all the crime along the waterfront here in town. My sister's really afraid if anyone finds out my identity, her career will be ruined. Really great detective work. You should really be a cop.

Jj: I was.

Haley: Oh, wait. You did tell me that. And went on about how you shot a guy and it turned out to be a really big mistake.

Jj: Right.

Haley: Is that why you're not a cop anymore?

Jj: Yeah. Yeah, it is. I left the force after that.

Haley: Oh. Would you look at that? Time really flies when you're having eggs. I should go get changed. I have my first meeting with dr. Evans.

Jj: I hope you'll open up to her.

Haley: Don't count on it. I'm only going so I won't lose my job.

Eric: [Sighs] Rex, I just--I really don't know if I want to get involved in your relationship.

Rex: No, no, no, no. You wouldn't be getting involved in my relationship. It's like I just said, I just need to know if I have a shot with her.

Eric: And if she opens up to me, why do you think I would pass it along? I mean, I wouldn't want to betray her confidence in me.

Rex: You would not be doing that. Sarah is a straight shooter. Anything that she would tell you she would have no problem telling me.

Eric: Great. Then you talk to her.

Rex: What? No. No, dude, I have to have something to work on. Like, has she spoken about me recently? Does she talk about me at all?

Eric: Yeah, she usually doesn't refer to you by name.

Rex: No?

Eric: More like "creep," "cheating bastard," "jerk."

Rex: Okay, okay.

Eric: Things like that.

Rex: Look. I don't blame her for hating what I did, but that's actually just it. Like, she hates what I did. She doesn't hate me. In fact, I'm hoping she still loves me. You know what, no, I don't hope that; I know she does. I was here last night. I could see it in her eyes. I could feel it, as mad as she was. I mean, look, what I did was horrible. But, you know, no more excuses. I was just an idiot, and then i paid the price for it. I'm still paying the price, but you know what's almost worse, eric? Is that she found out, she broke up with me, and I didn't fight hard enough. You know, I-- I didn't explain clearly enough what happened. I didn't tell her enough how much she means to me. I didn't tell her enough how much I love her. I just gave up too easily.

Eric: You know, you just found out you had a kid. I mean, it makes sense that your whole focus would be about them and, you know, going to find mimi and emily.

Rex: Yeah, spending time with my daughter, I don't regret that. Plus it gave me time to work out the custody situation with mimi.

Eric: So you and mimi, you didn't hook up again?

Rex: No, no. I mean, I... cards on the table, I thought about it, you know, just given the circumstances, but I don't love mimi. I love sarah. My heart belongs to her. It always will.

Xander: Oh. Here I was hoping we could be friends.

Sarah: Yeah, as a general rule, I don't make friends with psychotic killers.

Xander: That's a wee bit judgy, don't you think?

Sarah: Shouldn't you be in prison? Didn't you shoot eric's mother on her wedding day?

Xander: Oh, I see the rumor mill is in full swing around here. You don't really buy into all those silly rumors, do you? Look, why don't you just get to know me better, make up your own mind. What do you say, after breakfast we just take a quick dip in the hot tub together?

Sarah: That's a hard pass.

Xander: [Laughs]

Sonny: I'm surprised you're up. It's not even noon.

Leo: Is that why you thought you could sneak out on me?

Sonny: I'm going to university hospital. I have to tie up some loose ends regarding the christmas party that we sponsoreD.

Leo: Great. I think I'll go with you.

Sonny: I'm just meeting with some administrators. No press.

Leo: Oh, that's fine. I just want to spend some time with my hubster.

Sonny: Okay, well, I'm sure that you need to exfoliate, and I need to go.

Leo: Nope. I'm good to go. Invigorated, even. Just took a very cold shower.

Sonny: What, we're out of hot water?

Leo: No. And stop making excuses. Remember what uncle victor said: We have to keep up appearances.

Sonny: Fine.

Marlena: Well, I've got to get to the hospital. I don't want to be late. You, my darling.

Will: Bye, grandma.

Marlena: Mmm, sweetheart.

John: So, leo's mother. You know, I remember digging up dirt on him a while back, but I don't think I came across anything about his family members.

Will: Well, what you found already was a huge help. His arrest record, that's where I started.

John: Yeah, it gave you something?

Will: Uh, yes and no, because leo, you know, moved around a lot.

John: It means that she could be almost anyplace.

Will: Yeah. I'm starting to worry it's a dead end. I exhausted all my resources at "the spectator." Came up with nothing.

John: Well, then I have got good news for you, because now you have the resources of black patch. And I'll go on record saying there's not a case yet that I haven't cracked.

[Phone beeps]

[Beep] You got a problem there?

Will: Um, no, no. I just--I don't like being away from sonny.

John: Yeah. You know, will, doc and I, we were, um, we were apart quite a lot throughout the years. You know, kept apart by...

[Laughs] A lot of different circumstances.

Will: Yeah. How did you get through it?

John: Never gave up on each other. Always believed that somehow, some way we would find our way back to each other.

Will: That's what I'm telling myself.

John: What we're gonna start with here is all of leo's known aliases. Let's see if we can get some hits on homes or any rental properties, any place he might have stashed his mother. Hey, will. I know how hard it is to be separated from sonny. So if it helps, you know, maybe you can use doc and me as an example. You know, I remember how I hated all the times that we were apart. You know, we struggled through all kinds of stuff and all these obstacles to get back together. And you know what that did? Just made our love a lot stronger, and I got a feeling the same thing's gonna hold true for you and sonny.

Will: I hope so.

John: Yeah. After all, I mean, if doc and i can battle the devil and come out on top, I think you and sonny sure as hell can handle leO.

Will: I don't know, to be honest, I think leo can give the devil a run for his money.

Leo: Funny how seth burns wasn't expecting you. Seemed completely surprised to see you, in fact.

Sonny: I told you. I got the dates mixed up.

Leo: Right. Of course.

Sonny: Anyway, you don't have to wait around here with me while he reschedules. You want to go shopping and I'll meet up with you after?

Leo: Oh, no. I wouldn't dare leave my husband's side. He's so dreamy. I have to fight off the suitors with a stick.

[Phone beeps]

Sonny: Yes, mom, I sent ari's school a check for the new semester. This is unbelievable. I am a grown man, and my mom still nags me. She acts like I can't run my own life.

Leo: Maybe she got that idea from your questionable taste in wardrobe.

Sonny: What about you? Is your mom like that?

Leo: I told you. She's the worst mom ever. All she cares about is herself.

Sonny: Do you stay in touch?

Leo: No.

Sonny: That's too bad. Does she live nearby?

Leo: Why are you so interested in my mom?

Melinda: If I'm going to get convictions, this police department has to actually do its job. The cops are constantly hunting down the wrong leads, turning a blind eye to friends and relatives, falling for manufactured evidence.

Abe: If you're referring to commissioner brady--

Melinda: That is exactly who I'm referring to. Your pick for the top position is a complete failure. She's fixated on nailing ben weston, and she can't even do that right. She's arrested him multiple times, only to be forced to let him go.

Abe: She's doing her damnedest to protect the citizens. The man's a serial killer.

Melinda: Who has been determined by the state to longer be a threat. And whether you like it or not, he is now one of your citizens, and he is being harassed. It's only a matter of time before this department gets sued. And when it does, you're the one who's gonna be held accountable. Mayor.

Marlena: So... on christmas eve, you tried to overdose on medication?

Haley: Right.

Marlena: Is that the first time that's happened?

Haley: Yes. And it'll be the last. It was just... a moment of weakness, but i swear, I've learned my lesson. So these sessions are not really necessary.

Marlena: Dr. Johnson would disagree.

Haley: Are you going to report everything I say to her?

Marlena: Well, I-- I have a responsibility to assess whether or not you're fit to go back to work. But beyond that, what we say in here, what we talk about, that's all confidential. So you can start by telling me what's been so troubling for you, what led you to try to take your own life.

Jj: Hi, I'm calling for D.A. Trask. Out of the office. Well, would you happen to know where she would be? All right, great. Thank you.

Haley: There's nothing troubling me. You don't have to worry, dr. Evans. I have... I've already dealt with the issue of why I tried to commit suicide.

Marlena: Haley, attempting suicide isn't just something you can get over and move on. You gotta talk to someone, you gotta sort it out. It doesn't--it doesn't work to act as though it didn't happen. You know, as I sit here with you, I see somebody who was so troubled, in so much pain, struggling. I want you to know that I-- I care about you. Maybe that's unprofessional. Maybe I shouldn't say that, but I do. I do care. I'd like to help you through this any way that I can. It's something we would do together.

Haley: I--I'm not sure that's possible. There's nobody who can help me.

Marlena: Why don't you give me a try. You know, sometimes just saying things out loud, sometimes that can diffuse their power. Do you believe that?

Haley: I don'T. I'm really worried that if i tell the truth, it'll only make things worse.

Marlena: I understand that. You don't really know me, but I know something about you already. You've been suffering for a long time. Keeping things inside. That's a very, very tough pattern to change. I know it's hard to open up to somebody. Haley, what I want you to know is that you are safe here. There are no judgments. What you will find here is understanding and compassion. You can trust me. I promise.

Sonny: Sorry if I hit a nerve.

Leo: You didn'T. I would just rather talk about things more interesting than my mother.

Sonny: You know what, I'm done waiting. I'm gonna go see if burns can reschedule. I'll be right back.

[Tense music]

Eric: Maybe you should tell sarah everything you told me.

Rex: I would love to do that, if I could just get face to face with her-- that's it, that's it. Could you--could you call her and see if she wants to come over here so I can, you know, talk to her, just, like, one more time, convince her to do that for me?

Eric: And then what?

Rex: Well, that's easy. I would just take it from there. But when she gets here, you gotta make yourself scarce. Please. Come on, man. Do it for me. Thank you. I gotta jump in the shower.

[Tapping on door]

Eric: Sarah. I was just about to call you.

Sarah: Eric, there is something you need to know. Xander cook is still alive, and he's here in salem.

Today is the day and it's gonna be great.

Sonny: Will?

[Soft music]

Look, I can't stay long, okay? Leo's sticking to me like glue.

Will: That's okay. I just wanted to give you the good news in person.

Sonny: Good news? Let's hear it.

Will: I asked john to track down leo's mother. It's only a matter of time before we find mommy dearest.

Abe: You're right. The buck does stop with me. And I stand by my choice. Hope brady is an excellent commissioner.

Melinda: You're obviously a loyal friend and employer, but given your poll numbers, you'd be an idiot not to fire that woman.

Abe: May I remind you that I also appointed you. I expect you to work with hope and not against her.

Melinda: I don't know what you're talking about.

Abe: Look, I know that you've been trying to undermine her with a whisper campaign. No, no, no, no. Don't even try to deny it. But you understand it stops now. I expect you to start acting like a team player. Or you'll be the one I fire.

Melinda: Well. I'd say this meeting is over.

Jj: Ms. Trask, I've been--

Melinda: Not now!

Marlena: Haley, whatever it is, I'm here for you. There are no judgments. I want you to know that you're safe. And I want to help you through whatever's causing all this suffering in your life. It's a thing we'll do together.

Haley: I've kept this secret hidden my entire life, lived in constant fear of it coming out, and I just-- I can't do it anymore. I'll tell you everything.

Rex: Whoa. You're here. That was quick.

Sarah: What was?

Rex: Well, I asked eric if he would call you and see if you wanted to come over so we could talk. I mean, that's why you're here, right?

Sarah: No. I came here on my own, because i had some unsettling news for eric, and he asked me to wait here for him while he went and dealt with the problem that now I'm starting to wonder if i should've gone with him.

Eric: Xander! You killed nicole-- now I'm gonna kill you! Ow? Oh, I know.
