Kayla: Sounded like good news. I could use some of that.

Roman: A federal grand jury just indicted stefan dimera on charges of stealing isa secrets.

Kayla: They busted him for setting steve up? Is this really happening?

Roman: He is being taken into custody as we speak.

Kayla: I only wish I could be there to see his face.

Stefan: Treason? What the hell are you talking about?

Rafe: Well, according to the fbi, you hacked steve johnson's bionic eye and used it to steal classified isa secrets.

Stefan: Why would I take a risk like that?

Rafe: 'Cause evidently it could be worth millions of dollars on the black market.

Stefan: I already told kayla I had nothing to do with that hack.

Rafe: Apparently a grand jury thinks otherwise.

Stefan: You've got the wrong guy.

Rafe: Well, you have got the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law.

Ben: So? Are you going to arrest me or not, commissioner?

Hope: Did you kidnap gabi hernandez on the orders of stefan dimera?

Ben: Are you here on official business...or personal?

Ciara: What are you doing, ben? Answer her question.

Victor: No, titan stock hasn't budged. Still recovering from sonny and chad's mismanagement. Yeah, well, I should've known better. Putting a dimera in charge of the company, like putting a fox in charge of the henhouse. Yeah, later.

Xander: Well, even I could've told you that.

[Tense music]

Maggie: You look like you're in reporter mode.

Jennifer: Yeah, I just-- I'm doing all the research I can. I'm just trying to figure out where jack has been and--and what happened to him.

Maggie: I understand that eve is involved.

Jennifer: Yeah, she is. And if I don't get answers, she is going to turn jack against me.

[Dramatic music]

Eve: You feel it too, don't you, jack? The pull? You know... we've always had it.

Jack: You're one sexy woman.

Eve: And you are one sexy man. It's kind of crazy that all this sexiness, we never made love when we were married, not once. Kind of a shame, isn't it? But we have now. It's a new year... new man... new life. I think we need to celebrate.

[Soft orchestration]

[Soft dramatic music]

Eve: Jack, I want you.

[Both moaning softly]

Jack: I'm sorry.

Eve: Jack, come on. There's nothing for you to be sorry about. I know that you want this just as much as I do. Just... just give in to it.

Jack: No.

Eve: Just don't fight it.

[Both moaning softly]

Jack: No.

Eve: What?

Jack: I can't do this. I-I can'T. I can'T.

Xander: Hello, uncle. Long time, no see.

Victor: What the hell are you doing here?

Xander: Don't get up. I remember where the bar is.

Victor: I heard about the explosion in nashville. Tell you the truth, I was hoping you'd suffered the same fate as nicole walker.

Xander: No such luck.

Victor: Yeah, well, deep down, I knew you'd survived. Cockroaches always do.

Xander: I'll take that as a compliment.

Victor: Wasn't meant as one. So why don't you tell me what you're here for before I have security come in and drag you back out into the cold?

Xander: Well, actually, uncle, I'm here so you can welcome me back into the family.

Ben: I'm not saying another word to you until my attorney's present.

Hope: Pleading the fifth. Not surprised. That's what guilty people do.

Ben: It's also what people do who are being railroaded by a police commissioner with a personal vendetta.

Hope: I have a sworn statement from gabi that you kidnapped her at the kiriakis mansion while her daughter was in the next room.

Ciara: But you won't arrest him. Why?

Ben: Because it's my word against gabi's, and right now, she's not a reliable witness. Isn't that right, hope?

Ciara: Mom?

Hope: Gabi's telling the truth about what he did to her. Honey, you keep telling me that he's reformed, but there is nothing reformed about him. Nothing.

[Tense music]

Xander: Are you threatening me again?

Victor: You're a fugitive, a wanted man. You shot marlena evans.

Xander: Those charges will never stick. And I intend to keep a low profile until that's all resolved.

Victor: I'm gonna call security.

Xander: Mm. Don't be hasty. Before you have me kicked out as usual, you might as well take a look at what I have to offer. This little flash drive could save your company.

Roman: How about we have a drink to celebrate the downfall of stefan dimera?

Kayla: No, I'm--I'm not celebrating until steve's home.

Roman: This is step one, kay.

Kayla: I just hope that steve can forgive me for getting him in this whole mess with stefan in the first place.

Roman: You saved his eyesight. You only made the deal with stefan out of love for your husband. Steve knows that, kay. He loves you very much.

Kayla: I also hate that he's not here for jack. I mean, maybe if his brother was around, it would help jack remember who he really is.

Roman: Hey, if jennifer can't do it, I'm not sure anybody can. Have you seen him?

Kayla: No, not yet.

Roman: Look, I know-- I know you and jack have a difficult history.

Kayla: Yeah, we do. But we put that all behind us a long time ago. Jack is a completely different person now.

Roman: Yeah, well, at this point, I'm not sure he even knows who he is.

Maggie: Uh, well, have you learned anything? I mean, do you know where jack was and why he can't remember?

Jennifer: Mm-mm. I asked kayla if she could look into dr. Rolf's serum, you know, the after effects of it.

Maggie: Yeah. Well, it took a while for will, but eventually he got his memory back. Jennifer... jack is going to remember you. You just have to give it a little time.

Jennifer: Aunt maggie, with eve hovering, time is not a luxury that jack and I have right now.

Eve: Jack, come on. Hey.

[Both moaning softly] We are so great together.

Jack: I just... I just need a minute. No, no, no, maybe-- maybe more than a minute, maybe.

Eve: Jack. Wait, what, you're leaving?

Jack: Eve, I'm not trying to hurt you or anything. I-I just--I just gotta figure something out.

Eve: Jack, come on. Don't go.

Jack: Please, eve, this... you are so...tempting. I'm just... I'm confused, and I gotta find some answers. Uh...

Eve: Jack.

Jack: No.

Eve: Come on, jack. Come on, don't go. I just... jack!

[Dramatic music]

[Groans]

[Sighs]

Ciara: I think you should go now, mom.

Hope: Ciara.

Ciara: Mm.

Hope: Ciara, I know you want to think the best of him, that he's changed, that... honey, please. This is what I have been telling you all along. Ciara, he hasn't changed. He's still dangerous. My god, he kidnapped gabi hernandez on the orders of stefan dimera.

Ben: Would you please just let her decide on her own?

Hope: Shut up. You shut your mouth. Ciara... please. Please. I need you to walk away from him before you can'T. Please.

Ciara: I'm gonna ask you the same question my mom just did. And I don't give a damn if you have a lawyer present or not. I want the truth. Did you kidnap gabi hernandez for stefan dimera?

[Tense music]

Hope: What are you doing with him?

Rafe: Putting him in the room.

Hope: When you're done, come right back.

Rafe: Okay.

Stefan: Good to see you too, commissioner.

Rafe: Have a seat. The feds will be here...soon.

Stefan: As will my attorney.

Hope: I told you we don't have enough evidence to charge him with gabi's kidnapping.

Rafe: That's not why he's here.

Hope: This isn't about gabi?

Rafe: No. And you'd know that, had you been here. Where have you been?

Ciara: Don't you dare lie to me. Because I will talk to gabi. So if you want me to trust you ever again, I suggest you come clean right now, ben.

Ben: Yes. I took gabi from her room at the kiriakis mansion.

Ciara: You took?

Ben: I didn't hurt her. I promise you, I would never do that.

Ciara: But you brought her to stefan, who was furious about what she'd done.

Ben: Who also didn't hurt her either.

Ciara: You couldn't possibly have known that he wouldn'T. You--you led her right to him, and then you left her at his mercy.

Ben: Ciara, I'm paid to do as I'm told, not to ask questions or pass judgment.

Ciara: So you would've been okay if stefan had murdered her?

Ben: I tried to protect you from this. I-I know you're upset. I can see that.

Ciara: Upset? Upset? How--how--tell me, how am i supposed to feel when a guy cancels a date with me to go kidnap another woman?

[Groans angrily]

Victor: Am I supposed to be impressed? I know you stole the drive from my safe that had nicole's confession on it. It's worthless now. She died in the fire.

Xander: You're right. That drive is worthless, whereas this drive is something completely different. Shall we take a look? Let's see here.

Do I have your attention now?

Jennifer: I mourned jack for so long. And losing him almost broke me for good. And I prayed for this day, that--that one day, he would be here, and now he is, and I could lose him for good all over again because of eve.

Maggie: I want you to know, whatever happens, I am squarely in your corner for this fight. I will help bring jack to you however I can.

[Chuckles softly] Because you two belong together. You always have.

Jennifer: I wish he'd remember that.

Maggie: He will. He will. He will. He will. Love you.

Jennifer: Love you.

[Sighs]

[Soft music]

Eve: He said he needed to find answers. What kind of answers is he looking to find? Oh, no. Please don't tell me he went to find that sneaky little bitch.

[Tense music]

Roman: All right. Now, I know you said you didn't want to celebrate till steve came home to you. But one drink for one toast. Pop would insist.

Kayla: A toast to what?

Roman: To stefan dimera living a very long, miserable life in federal prison.

Kayla: That sounds wonderful.

Roman: And when that is over, may he one day join his daddy in hell.

Kayla: Well, who could resist that toast?

[Cell phone beeps]

Roman: Oop, I got a delivery in the back. To the downfall of stefan dimera.

Kayla: I should be celebrating this with you, steve.

[Sighs]

[Dramatic music]

Jack.

Victor: Where'd you get this?

Xander: Does it matter?

Victor: Of course it matters.

Xander: What matters is, I have it...and you want it.

Victor: Inside information on dimera enterprises.

Xander: Your biggest rival. You could do some serious damage to them with that, maybe even put them under for good.

Victor: What do you want for it?

Xander: Let's see. What do I want? What do I want? What do I want? You just fired chad. And sonny just married the guy who accused him of sexual harassment. Brady doesn't have the stomach for the job. I want to be the new ceo.

Victor: You're a fugitive, a wanted man. What happened to keeping a low profile until things got resolved?

Xander: They will all be resolved very quickly, I assure you. So what do you say?

Victor: I say never. Before I'd turn my family business over to you, I'd just as soon give it to my granddaughter ciara.

Ben: Ciara, I swear to god to you, I did not hurt gabi. Okay?

Ciara: But you would have. What if she had fought back? If she resisted, what would you have done to restrain her?

Ben: I don't know, ciara.

Ciara: That's not good enough. That's not an answer. Because when a man is willing to do something like this to a woman, I... I start thinking, "what else is he capable of doing? What else is he willing to do? And as someone who was violated by a man once, I--

Ben: Are you thinking about what this guy chase did to you? Because I have done some awful things when I was sick, but I would never... please tell me you're not comparing me to a rapist.

Hope: I went to the loft to talk to ciara...about ben. Rafe, gabi told me that he kidnapped her on stefan's orders.

Rafe: Huh. So ben was doing the dirty work.

Hope: Mm-hmm.

Rafe: Did you arrest him?

Hope: No.

Rafe: No?

Hope: I couldn'T. Rafe, I knew it wouldn't stick, given what the da thinks about gabi's statement.

Rafe: Okay, so what were you doing there?

Hope: I wanted to make sure that your stepdaughter knew what weston had done to your sister.

[Cell phone ringing]

Rafe: Okay. It's the fbi. I gotta take this. Hernandez. Yeah.

Jennifer: Yes, I want you to get down to the police station right away and cover stefan dimera's arrest. Yes. As soon as you have it, let me know. Let me know when I can file it. Great.

[Knock at door]

Eve: Where is he? Where's jack?

Jack: You look like you've seen a ghost. But that's all right. I'm getting a lot of that lately.

Kayla: I mean, I-I knew that you were alive, but... seeing you in person...

Jack: I-I take it we know each other?

Kayla: I'm-- I'm kayla johnson, your brother's wife.

Jack: Uh, the roguish guy with the eye patch, right?

Kayla: That's the one.

Jack: Yeah. Oh, I can't wait to meet him. Actually, uh, well, is he here?

Kayla: No, uh, he's out of town at the moment, but I know that he'd be anxious to see you.

Jack: Well, that goes for us both. So you and I... you're my sister-in-law. Did we have a good relationship?

Jennifer: Oh, sure, eve, just come on in.

Eve: Is he here?

Jennifer: No.

Eve: Where the hell is he?

Jennifer: I wouldn't know. But I hope that means he came to his senses and got away from you.

Eve: [Scoffs] Why don't you just calm down? 'Cause after you attacked me, we had a very honest talk, and we worked things out.

Jennifer: Oh. Well, if you worked things out, how come you don't know where he is? You're scared, eve. I can tell. You are so afraid that jack is gonna figure out who he really is.

Kayla: Um, my--my brother roman is in the back. Our, um--our family owns this place.

Jack: Did--did I say something wrong?

Kayla: No.

Jack: You seem uneasy. Did I stiff you guys on a tab or something?

Kayla: No, um, when you died, we had a-a very strong relationship.

Jack: And before that?

Kayla: We've known each other a very long time, jack.

Jack: All of it good? Is there anything I need to know?

Kayla: Um... before I was married to steve, you and I were married.

Jack: Really?

[Laughs] I mean, how many ex-wives do I have in this town?

[Laughs]

Kayla: Well, we weren't married for very long. Um, I was in love with steve, and, uh... he had pushed me away.

Jack: So I was a rebound. I mean, that's why you married me.

Kayla: Something like that. Um, we got together, and, um...

Jack: And?

Kayla: And, um, it didn't work out.

Jack: Kayla, is there something you're not telling me?

Kayla: I had an affair with steve, and you found out.

Jack: Ouch. So...I dumped you?

Kayla: You raped me.

[Dramatic music]

Xander: As always, thank you for the vote of confidence, uncle. But your granddaughter ciara doesn't have that drive. I do. And did I mention there's a lot more on here than what I showed you?

Victor: How much more?

Xander: Mm. More than enough to guarantee titan puts dimera down for the count.

Victor: I'll pay for it. Name your price.

Xander: I don't want your money. I want the title and the power and the respect. But I understand. I just sort of sprung this on you all at once, didn't I? You take your time and think about it. And in the meantime, I'll go get settled back into my old room.

Victor: You're staying here?

Xander: Might as well. I'll be running the business soon.

Ciara: I'm not saying that you're a rapist.

Ben: But what I did to gabi brought back some memories for you... of what that monster did.

Ciara: It's violence, ben. It's all violence. You have to see that.

Ben: It's just a job. That's all. It's just a job, the only job I was gonna get.

Ciara: But, ben, if your job is to hurt people--

Ben: I didn't hurt her! I told you. I told you. I'm sorry.

Ciara: Okay. Okay, well, you didn't hurt her this time, but... what's next? You snatched gabi with no questions asked, ben. What's gonna happen when and if stefan does ask you to hurt someone?

Hope: Did a little research and, uh... found that under title 18 of the U.S. Code, treason is punishable by death.

Stefan: Look, I know nothing about those stolen isa documents.

Hope: The grand jury disagrees. You have a pretty heavy charge hanging over your head. Right now, you could really use some friends, wouldn't you say?

Stefan: Are you offering to be my friend, commissioner?

Hope: Give me ben weston.

(Nora) before we start - how much is my tax prep going to cost?

Stefan: What could I possibly give you on ben weston?

Hope: We both know you ordered him to kidnap gabi hernandez.

Stefan: If I did, that would make me a conspirator to kidnapping, wouldn't it? I'd go to jail for that as well.

Hope: Not necessarily.

Stefan: [Chuckles] Commissioner, forgive me for, uh-- for being naive here. But, uh... isn't it the job of the police to try and get the little fish to flip on the big fish?

Hope: He's no ordinary fish.

Stefan: Because he's dating your daughter.

Hope: Because he's a murderer that never should've been let back out on the street.

Stefan: Because he's dating your daughter.

Ben: [Sighs] This job... ciara, it's not what you think. Stefan isn't asking me to go kidnap women on a daily basis.

Ciara: So just every other day?

Ben: All I'm saying is, I'm mostly doing security. I'm keeping the guy safe.

Ciara: But you know he'll ask you again. And this time, he'll want more, especially since now he knows that you're willing to do it.

Ben: You're gonna have to trust that I won't cross that line.

Ciara: What is that line? You grabbed a young mother from her bedroom. And then you left her to be hurt by your boss. After what happened to me, how could I just go along with this? How can I look the other way without feeling like a total hypocrite?

Ben: You're not a hypocrite.

Ciara: But standing by you makes me complicit. It's like I'm allowing you to hurt these women.

Ben: Ciara...

Ciara: This is just how I feel. And I'm not sure I'm okay with it.

Ben: Ciara, are you asking me to quit my job?

[Dramatic music]

Jack: I raped you?

Kayla: It was a long time ago. It took a lot of work on both our parts... but we got past it.

Jack: I'm sorry. I-I... I don't know what to say. I'm--I'm sorry.

Kayla: You don't need to apologize, not anymore. Over time, you proved yourself to me. You are not that man anymore. He's gone. And I could see how sorry you were for what you did to me.

Jack: Eve told me that I have a dark side. I just didn't imagine how dark.

Kayla: Well, I'm happy to say that, uh, you became a better person-- a good friend, good husband, and a good father. How did I change?

Kayla: You changed... thanks to jennifer's love.

Jennifer: Seems to me your little heart-to-heart talk didn't go very well. Maybe it's because you're heartless.

Eve: Jack and I will be just fine, jennifer.

Jennifer: Mm, once you actually find him.

Eve: It was all just a big misunderstanding, that's all.

Jennifer: Yeah, you're right. You misunderstand how much jack and I mean to each other. But I promise you, he will find his way home to me.

Eve: This isn't jack's home anymore, jennifer. His home is with me, where he was just a few minutes ago... in my bed.

Jennifer: You're lying.

Eve: Am I? Really? Hmm. 'Cause I seem to remember him all over me.

Maggie: [Sighs]I just came from jennifer'S. This jack situation is very upsetting. I mean, she's thrilled that he's alive, of course. But he can't remember her, and now... eve is using jack to hurt her. So much for a softer eve. Listen, you should know that xander is alive. Somehow he survived that fire. And he's the one that handed jack to eve.

Victor: So that's where he got it.

Maggie: Excuse me?

Victor: That slippery son of a bitch.

Maggie: What's the matter, victor?

Victor: I'm afraid we have another unwanted houseguest.

Maggie: Oh, no. Oh, no.

Xander: The best thing about living here...

Maggie: Oh!

Xander: Is, uh, skinny-dipping in the heated pool in the dead of winter. Oh, hello, maggie.

Maggie: [Scoffs]

Xander: You, uh... care to join me?

Victor: Show some decency for once in your life.

Xander: [Sputters] As if you'd even recognize decency.

[Sighs] So, maggie, did uncle vic tell you I've moved back in?

Maggie: He was about to.

Xander: Oh. Well, that's just the beginning. Why don't we have a big celebration, like a feast, now that I'm coming back? Uh, how about-- I was thinking maybe steak or lobster or-- huh, why choose? Surf and turf.

Victor: That's enough.

Xander: I'll go change into something a bit more... well, a bit more.

[Laughs] I'll see you guys at dinner, yeah?

Maggie: Mm. Do you want to explain what the hell is going on? Hmm?

Victor: [Sighs]

Ciara: I can't tell you what to do. I know you didn't have many other options when you went to work for stefan.

Ben: Not if I wanted to... you know, eat.

Ciara: And I get that. I get that he gave you a job and a home and a chance to start your life over. I get that.

Ben: But you won't tell me to quit. But you hate what I do. And you can't live with it.

[Dramatic music]

Where does this leave us?

Ciara: I don't know.

Ben: I want to keep my job, ciara, but I do not want to lose you over this. You mean way too much to me. You are the most important thing in my life.

Ciara: I care about you too. But I... I need some time to think about this, okay? And I hope you will too.

Ben: Of course. We'll figure this out, okay?

Ciara: Yeah.

[Somber music]

Ben: [Sighs]

Stefan: I will not be rolling over on ben weston today. He's been very loyal to me, and, quite frankly, I happen to like the guy.

Hope: Yeah, of course you do.

Stefan: I don't belong here. I'm not a traitor to my country.

Hope: You're innocent?

Stefan: Are you innocent, commissioner? I know you think you're better than me, but I'm not the one who put bullet holes in an unarmed man.

[Tense music]

Hope: You're making a mistake.

Stefan: Let me know when my attorney gets here, would you?

[Door slams]

Kayla: I can imagine that this is very difficult and confusing for you.

Jack: You could say that.

Kayla: This is what you need to know, jack. There are a lot of people in this town that love you-- your family, your friends, your children. And at the very top of the list... is jennifer horton.

[Dramatic music]

Jennifer: So the two of you were in bed together and he just took off? I guess whatever was happening in that bed wasn't very successful.

Eve: Well, you are wrong.

Jennifer: Or maybe he was so repulsed by you that he just took off.

Eve: I am the one that slowed things down, for your information.

Jennifer: Oh, really?

Eve: Yeah.

Jennifer: Why would you do that, eve?

Eve: Well, because he's going through a very tough time right now and I don't want to take advantage of that.

Jennifer: What? You are filling his head with lies.

Eve: Uh, no. I am allowing him to discover his true self. I'm not bogging him down with a bunch of 30-year-old history and old baggage.

Jennifer: Jack may not remember what a snake you are, but he is a smart man. And if he hasn't figured it out already, he will very soon.

Eve: You mark my words, jennifer. I will be mrs. Jack deveraux again.

[Laughs] And when that happens, I'll be sure to let you know.
