Episode #13205 ~ Chad and Abigail walk in on a heated moment between Vivian and Stefan; Rafe and Eli question a new suspect about Andre's murder; JJ pursues a new line of work; Valerie gives Lani an ultimatum.

[Knock at door] What?

Jj: This a bad time?

Kayla: Ugh, no. I'm sorry. I'm just--I'm trying to get a quick referral for a patient, and it's frustrating, to say the least.

Jj: Well, I can put this off.

Kayla: No, no. Of course not. Come in. Come in. There's nothing I can do anyway. I have to wait for them to call me back, so... what is it? What--what do you need?

Jj: Uh, I just need you to answer some questions.

Kayla: About what?

Jj: Lani's pregnancy.

Valerie: We need to talk.

Lani: I'm sorry, this isn't-- it isn't a good time for me.

Valerie: Lani, I know the truth. I know that eli is the father of your baby.

Lani: I don't know what you're talking about.

Valerie: Yeah. Yeah, you do.

Lani: [Scoffs] I'm a cop, valerie. I use this tactic all the time.

Valerie: What--what tactic is that?

Lani: I lead a suspect to think I already know what he did, even when I don'T.

Valerie: Well, here's what I know, lani. I know that you slept with my son on christmas eve and that you were broken up with jj a whole month before that happened.

Lani: So?

Valerie: So a pregnancy lasts nine months, and your due date is september 17th.

Lani: Look, jj and I-- yes, we were broken up, okay, but we--we were trying to work it out, so I did--I spent a couple nights with him in december.

Valerie: For real, lani? Seriously, we were together a lot of that time. You were heartbroken about the breakup and about the fact that jj didn't want to have anything to do with you.

Lani: How do you even know my due date? Kayla would never talk about my pregnancy with you.

Valerie: She didn'T.

Lani: So what did you do? Did you just go in the exam room and--and look at my records? They're--they're confidential, valerie!

[Crying] How dare you?

[Somber music]

Abigail: I keep having the same dream about you. I walk into the office, and... I see the blood, and you open your eyes. I feel like you want to say something, and I--- but you can'T. I-I think that you want to tell me who did this to you, but... I need you to help me. I don't know. I need more than just the look. And I don'T... I want to know who took you away from me.

Stefan: Still shaken by andre's funeral or celebrating?

Vivian: Little bit of both.

Stefan: What are you drinking?

Vivian: Stefano's best single malt.

Stefan: Neat?

Vivian: No, splash of soda. Brings out the nose.

Stefan: I'd have it neat if I were you. I mean, a casket did topple over and you ended up with the cold dead hand of the dearly departed on your shoulder.

Vivian: [Laughing] Yes. Yes, that was a bit chilling, to say the least. But now andre and everything to do with him is sealed away and john black has no information, nothing on us. Nor do the police. So we actually got away with it. Now we can go forward with our plan with one less thing to worry about.

Gabi: Oh, yeah?

[Tense music]

Eli: Wait, what was that?

Rafe: Play it back.

Eli: That's not hattie.

Rafe: Or anna. Freeze the frame.

Eli: Oh, my god. That looks like--

Rafe: My sister. .

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Chad: Hey, you. Been looking all over for you. Can't believe you're still here.

Abigail: I couldn't leave him... not after having the same dream two nights in a row.

Chad: They're just dreams.

Abigail: Feels like more than that. I just feel like I'm not gonna have any peace until I find out who did this to him.

[Sighs] What happened with hattie?

Chad: Well, stefan and i cornered her, brought her to the police station, and they are currently drilling the crazy out of her... or attempting to.

Abigail: You sure about that?

Chad: I was just there.

Abigail: Maybe you have some answers for me?

Gabi: So what's the one less thing you two have to worry about?

Vivian: Uh, I don't like to speak ill of the dead.

Gabi: Why do I doubt that?

Vivian: What you heard me say is, I'm relieved to not deal with andre anymore, and I'm not going to apologize for those feelings.

Gabi: No one's asking you to. I-I feel the exact same way. See, now that the, uh, funeral is over, I think it's about time for you and I to talk about getting the company back that andre stole from me, the one that I created from the ground up.

Vivian: That's not stefan's fault.

Gabi: Oh, I never said it was. But he is the ceo. He has the power to make this right. So...ceo, are you gonna step up? Or have you just been stringing me along?

Stefan: I have not been stringing you along. And I'll see to it that you're reinstated.

Vivian: You can't do that!

Rafe: So it's an hour later and gabi's come back to see andre again-- which she didn't mention when we questioned her about it. And as far as we know, the murder weapon is still in there with him.

Eli: There's the missing hour, though. I mean, we both know that's a lot of time. Anyone could've gone in or out of there.

Rafe: Yes, you're absolutely right, it is. But gabi... if andre was dead in there, she would've mentioned that.

Eli: Yeah.

Rafe: Not to mention the fact that the time stamp on that footage, it's-- I mean, that's not long after she left the office... and when she was seen smashing her fist into the wall. But for god sakes, is that-- she been lying to us? Is that gabi right there? Is that her going back into andre's office to kill him? .

Valerie: Sit down. Sit down. Take some deep breaths.

Lani: Don't tell me what to do.

Valerie: Lani, I'm not trying to ruin your life.

Lani: Are you sure about that?

Valerie: I am. I care about you and this baby. Of course I want you to have a happy, healthy pregnancy. I just want to make sure you are doing the right thing by my son.

Lani: I care about eli too, and I am doing the right thing. He has wanted gabi from the moment he saw her, and they're together. He wouldn't want to be having a child with me. It would just ruin his life.

Valerie: You don't know that.

Lani: I do!

Valerie: Listen. I have been right where you are. And believe me, you do not want to lie to your child about something as important as this. You don'T. It's not only bad for the child. It's bad for you and it's bad for everyone you ask to keep this secret. I know--I know it seems easy now because the baby's not here and it doesn't feel real. But in a few months, this baby-- this baby will be real, and then what? Jj believes you conceived in november. So what's he gonna think when this baby doesn't come until the middle of september?

Lani: I will figure it out. So just stop trying to scare me.

Valerie: I'm not. I'm trying to get to you. I know my son. He would want to help in any way he can. He would want to be a father to the baby.

Lani: Did you talk to him? Did you tell him?

Valerie: No, no. We talked about it theoretically because he knew you were pregnant and he knew it was a possibility it could be hiS. That's why he went to you. That's why, so he could do the right thing. But then you lied and you told him that the baby was jj'S.

Lani: Yeah. God. You don't know what you're stirring up here. This will destroy people's lives, valerie, okay? Especially jj!

Valerie: I know this is difficult.

Lani: [Sighs] You think you know everything. But you don'T. You don't know that on christmas eve, the same night that this baby was conceived, jj was planning to kill himself.

Kayla: Um... what do you want to know about lani's pregnancy?

Jj: Well, she says that everything is going fine, but I want to hear it from you.

Kayla: Why? What are you--what are you worried about?

Jj: Lani always wants everyone to think that she's a superwoman. But there have been times where she's not as fine as she said she was. Now, maybe I'm--I'm being overprotective.

Kayla: Well, I have an ethical responsibility not to discuss lani with anyone... even you. But I think that she would be all right with me telling you that, um, the pregnancy is, uh, right where it should be and the baby is developing right on schedule.

Jj: Have you heard the heartbeat yet? 'Cause I know that's supposed to happen when she's around six to seven weeks pregnant.

Kayla: Well, if I hadn't, I'm sure lani would've told you.

Jj: Okay. Well, great. Yeah, that's just great.

Kayla: Well, is that it? No other questions?

Jj: Well, I-I don't want to hold you, but there is something else.

Kayla: About lani?

Jj: Kind of.

Chad: When I left the police station, anna and hattie were accusing each other of killing andre.

Abigail: And I suppose they're both swearing they didn't do it.

Chad: That's what hope said.

Abigail: So they're both still at the police station?

Chad: Well, look, uh, hope said that they're not gonna have enough to hold either one of them.

Abigail: So they're both just running around free?

Chad: No, hattie will be going back to statesville, and anna was told to stay in town. Carrie's gonna keep an eye on her.

Abigail: Okay. [Scoffs]

Chad: Look, hope said that both of them had strong motives. Either hattie drove anna to--to murder andre with that letter, or hattie did it herself.

Abigail: But that's--

Chad: And used the letter-- what?

Abigail: It's just, that's all supposition.

Chad: Yes. Yeah, pretty much.

Abigail: So basically, andre could've been murdered by someone else entirely.

Eli: If gabi killed andre, she--she'd own up to it. She wouldn't lie to us.

Rafe: Yeah. You're right. And the footage, I mean, it's not great quality. You can't see her face. But there's the coat. We can't ignore that. That'S... hope said to me, she said if we came across anything important, I should call her. I... I-I do think that this qualifies.

Eli: Rafe, rafe, rafe. Can we please just get gabi in here and talk to her before we bring the commissioner into it?

Rafe: We have a job to do.

Eli: Come on. I just told gabi that I believe in her. I don't want to bring her in here to face all three of us without any type of warning. I don't think you do either.

Rafe: Okay. Call gabi.

[Tense music]

Vo: This building season has been jimmy's longest. .

Gabi: Why exactly can't stefan put me back in charge of the company I created?

Vivian: Well, I, um-- I just... didn't you tell me that you have to run decisions like that past the board?

Stefan: Yes. But as ceo, I can strongly recommend they approve it.

Gabi: That sounds great. Sounds amazing.

[Cell phone ringing] You will not regret this. Excuse me. I have to take this. Hey, what's up?

Eli: Hey, uh, I was wondering if you can come down to the station.

Gabi: Yeah. Why?

Eli: Rafe and I, we, um-- we need to talk to you.

Gabi: You sound serious. Is everything all right?

Eli: Yeah, yeah, it's fine. Just come as soon as you can.

Gabi: Yeah, I'll be right there. I need to go. But, um, could you please let me know when you get in touch with the board?

Stefan: I will.

Vivian: Are you out of your bloody mind?

Abigail: [Sighs]

Chad: Hey, do you still think that--that gabi could've done it?

Abigail: No.

Chad: Really?

Abigail: I asked her point-blank.

Chad: You did? That's why you took off, 'cause you--you were going to talk to her.

Abigail: I just felt like I needed to be sure. I don't-- I mean, right now, I feel like I'm andre's only friend and I owe it to him to find out who killed him.

Chad: What did gabi say?

Abigail: She got mad.

Chad: Of course she did.

Abigail: And she asked if I did it.

Chad: Well, that's ridiculous.

Abigail: Well, she said she wanted me to know what it felt like to be accused of something like that by a good friend, and...

[Sighs] And she convinced me that she-- even though she hated what andre did, she was just gonna file a lawsuit or something and she was never gonna kill him.

Chad: Well, kind of makes sense.

Abigail: I know. But I do--I feel terrible. I shouldn't have accused her. I did. And I think that we're okay now. I don't know. I asked stefan to reinstate her. I just really hope he does.

Chad: He should.

Abigail: Yeah.

Chad: Look... gabi's been to prison, all right? She knows what it's like to be separated from her daughter and everyone else she loves. She's not gonna want to go through that again. I-I honestly don't think she had anything to do with it.

Gabi: What was that phone call about? What the hell's going on?

Rafe: We got some, uh-- we got some new security footage from dimera enterprises, and we want you to take a look at something. So this--this was recorded a while after you left andre's office.

Gabi: Oh, my god, that's, um-- that's--that's not-- that's--that's not me, I swear!

Rafe: Looks like you. Well, look at it. The hair's the same. That coat's yours.

Gabi: Rafe, I mean, well, a lot of women have the same hair color and haircut. Wait, you honestly think that that is me?

Rafe: I need you to be honest with me right now. Okay, gabi, I need you to tell me, okay? After you left andre's office, you went for a drive around the lake. Did you go back to his office?

Gabi: No, rafe. No! Okay, no! I swear to you on my daughter's life, I-I did not do that, okay? That is not me!

[Dramatic music]

Lani: And if gabi hadn't decided on a spur of the moment to drop off that christmas gift, if she hadn't seen him in his dress uniform and wondered what was going on... he would've gone to the square and he would've used his service weapon to take his own life.

Valerie: I-I actually knew that-- that jj had been suicidal on that night. Eli told me.

Lani: Then you know that she talked him down... and that he was too afraid to be by himself and so she stayed the night with him.

Valerie: And you went there to talk with him and you saw him and gabi together and assumed they were gonna make love.

Lani: I was gonna try to talk to jj and tell him how wrong it was for us to be apart, partly because you and I had that conversation and you encouraged me to do it.

Valerie: I remember that talk.

Lani: And I went running to eli because I didn't know what else to do. Our...being together would've never happened if we had been in our right minds. And the next morning, we found out how wrong I was.

Valerie: How--how's jj now?

Lani: Better, now that dad and theo forgave him.

Valerie: Has he forgiven himself?

LanI: Not completely, now that--theo still can't walk and... even then, he's still really hard on himself. And knowing that I'm pregnant, it's brought-- it's brought him back to life. I don't know-- if he finds out if this baby is not his, I don't know he'll do. Valerie... I cannot tell him that this baby is eli'S. And neither can you.

[Soft dramatic music]

Jj: So did you hear about me leaving the police force?

Kayla: Uh, yeah. Yeah, I did.

Jj: Well, I've been thinking of what kind of work I want to get into next, and I haven't come up with much. But I mean, I'm going to be a dad, so I have to have a job. But I saw on the hospital's website a posting about emt training, and I was wondering what you think about it.

Kayla: Well, um, I'm an advisor to the program, and I think it's really great.

Jj: Well, I like helping people. I mean, that's what made me want to be a cop. Didn't exactly work out that way. Anyhow...I was able-- I had a lot of chances to see emts in action, and what they do is amazing. And theo could've died at the scene if it wasn't for those men and women who showed up and kept him alive and got him to you. That kind of work... it's really starting to sound like something I might be interested in.

Gabi: Would you two please stop scaring me, okay? I cannot believe you think that that is me! Okay. I will admit it looks like me from the back and that is the same jacket, but I know that I left andre's office and I never came back.

Rafe: Okay, so if it's not you, who is it?

Gabi: I don't know. I mean, maybe andre took a strand of my hair and cloned it.

Rafe: Okay, you know what? I really don't think right now is the time to joke, okay?

Gabi: I'm not joking, okay? I'm not. I mean, think about this. Somebody wants to get away with offing andre. They know I'm having problems with him, so they-- they find a coat. They buy one that looks exactly like mine. They get a wig that looks like my hair so they can get past security and into his office. I didn't do this. I know I didn't do it because I was not there. I didn't do that. But... you guys have security footage of this person coming out, right?

Eli: Yeah.

Gabi: Okay, I want to see footage of that. I have the right to see that.

Rafe: Yeah, fast-forward to...

Eli: There she is.

Gabi: She's hiding her face, okay? She's trying to keep the camera from seeing it's not me!

Eli: Okay, look. We both know that there was a blackout and all the dimera security cameras started at the same time. We should be able to track this woman's movements through the building. Maybe there's another camera that got a better look at her.

Rafe: Yeah. And whoever it was, they need a key card to call the elevator outside of andre's office. Or else, you're not getting out of the building.

Eli: Yeah, all right, well, we'll find every person who went in and out of that building and which key cards were used.

Gabi: Are you guys saying that you believe me?

Rafe: I'm not saying anything till I see her face.

Eli: Want me to call the head guy at dimera security?

Rafe: I'll do it myself.

Eli: All right.

Gabi: Rafe. Okay, I need you to please find something that will clear me. You have to, okay? Because I know--I know that that was not me, okay? I sure as hell did not kill andre.

Vivian: Ha! Just when everything was going so well, you decide to become a hero. Andre had gabi out in the cold, which is where she belongs, and we were going to enjoy all that money that gabi chic was going to make.

Stefan: Mother, dimera has a shoddy reputation as it is. Do you want to be known as the major corporation that kicked a woman like gabi in the teeth? I don'T.

Vivian: Oh, I see. You're not doing this for pr value. It's because of abigail.

Stefan: No. No.

Vivian: Oh, yes. She was blubbering at the funeral, and you--you almost broke your ankle trying to get a handkerchief to her.

Stefan: I was trying to be compassionate, thank you very much.

Vivian: Excuse me, but i think you feel a hell of a lot more than compassion for your brother's wife.

Stefan: Okay, you know what? You're right.

Vivian: Excuse me?

Stefan: No, you are absolutely right. I have been trying to will myself to stop thinking about abigail. In fact, I-I asked, uh, gabi out to dinner with abigail standing right there.

Vivian: You had dinner with gabi?

Stefan: No, no. As it turns out, uh, she has a boyfriend, and she could tell that my heart wasn't in it anyway.

Vivian: Oh, great. Just what I need.

Stefan: Just what-- what do you mean? What are you talking about?

Vivian: Ever since I've gotten to know you, I realize that you always want what you can't have. It's not abigail's winning ways that attract you. Besides, you'd be bored with her in a week. It's the fact that chad has her heart. And that, my darling, is not love. It's obsession.

Stefan: Mother, I don't care what it looks like. I'm used to getting what I want, and what I want is abigail.

Vivian: Oh, grow up! Get over it!

Stefan: [Scoffs]

[Dramatic music]

Crohn's disease. .

Stefan: That was not worthy of you.

Abigail: You slap him around?

Chad: I didn't know that's how you and mommy roll. Usually you seem so chummy.

Stefan: [Clears throat]

Vivian: We were having an argument. It just got a little heated.

Chad: Oh, I could tell that. It was a hell of a swing, vivian.

Abigail: Yeah, it must've been about something pretty important.

Stefan: Actually, it was about you.

[Soft dramatic music]

Gabi: I mean, we've been through this a bunch of times, eli. I didn't lie to you, okay? Not once. I told you I left andre's office. I did not come back. I didn'T. You think that I could kill someone because they screwed me out of a job? Okay, let's just say I did this. I would tell you. I would tell you because I know in my soul that I could trust you. I know that if I was in trouble that you would be there to help me.

Eli: I'm trying to help you now.

Gabi: Well, you need to do that by believing me. Do you?

Eli: Yes. Of course I believe you.

Kayla: Well, what do you think?

Jj: Well, after reading this brochure, I'm serious about this.

Kayla: I think that you would make a great emt. But it's a serious commitment, so think about it and talk to lani about it. And if you decide that you want to apply, I'd be really happy to recommend you.

Jj: All right, well, that's--that's excellent. And I won't turn in this application unless I'm absolutely sure. 'Cause this next step I have to take in my life, it's got to be the right one. I screwed up a lot, but I got a another chance when I met lani. This baby may have been an accident, but it wasn't a mistake. Know what I mean?

Kayla: Yeah. Um, sometimes accidents turn out to be what we really, really, wanted and we didn't even know we wanted it.

Jj: That's exactly it. And I want to be the best dad I know how to be.

Kayla: Pretty sure you will be.

Jj: And the timing works out great because it says here that the training is only six months, so by the time I get certified, lani will be in her last trimester. Maybe if I get a good enough job, I'll be able to convince her to take some time off before the baby comes.

Kayla: I hope you get everything you want, jj.

Jj: Listen. Thank you for taking the time with me. I'm gonna talk to lani, and, uh, I'll let you know what I decide. Thank you.

Kayla: Yeah. Yeah.

Valerie: Thank you... for making me understand all that happened and all that's at stake.

Lani: I love jj. I have to put him first.

Valerie: [Sighs] Continuing to lie to him, continuing to let him think he's the baby's father is not doing him any favors... and not for the baby either.

Lani: You had a few rough months with eli after he found out about his father. But now you guys are fine because he knew what you did was out of love, valerie.

Valerie: After eli came back, I promised him I would never lie to him again. And I'm sorry, lani. I-I won'T. And now that I know he is the father of your baby, I can't keep that from him.

Lani: So you're gonna tell him? My god, valerie, haven't you understood anything that I've been telling you? The truth will hurt everyone, jj most of all because he is the most vulnerable. This will send him over the edge. And do you really want to be responsible for that? Remember our special night? .

Lani: Well? Are you gonna do it?

Valerie: I'm not gonna run out of this place and go straight to eli, if that's what you're thinking.

Lani: Then what are you gonna do?

Valerie: I know what I've done to your life today. But...I can't-- I can't lie to eli. I'm sorry.

Lani: I am begging you. Please, don't say anything.

Valerie: That's lying. I will lose him permanently. I can't lie to him again. Here's what I think you should do. The best course of action is for you to tell eli. But if you can't bring yourself to do that, I'm gonna have to tell him. One way or another, he's gonna find out. I'll give you 24 hours.

Lani: [Sobs]

[Dramatic music]

Gabi: I don't know what i would've done if you didn't believe me. My whole life is on the line here. Hey, what did the head of security say?

Rafe: Well, he said that, um...

[Clears throat] According to him, no camera recorded anyone entering or exiting the building, although a key card was used to call the elevator outside of andre's office, which was soon after you left.

Gabi: Okay, so whose card was it?

Rafe: Well, I hate to say it, gabi, but... it was yours.

Abigail: You two were having an argument about me?

Chad: This should be an interesting one. Why don't you explain to me what that argument was about?

Stefan: Well, you, uh-- you asked me to put gabi back in charge at gabi chic, right? Well, she was--she was just here, and I promised her that I would do everything in my power to make that happen. Now she's really upset with me.

Chad: Is that true?

Vivian: It's none of your business. But I just thought we should slow things down before overturning all of andre's decisions.

Abigail: Hmm. So now you're the guardian of andre's memory?

Vivian: Well, given what's happened here all day, uh, I just felt that stefan was being a little precipitous.

Stefan: I can assure you I'm not making a mistake. I know exactly what I'm doing.

Abigail: Well, I assume that you're doing this for gabi because I asked you to, so...thank you.

Stefan: Mm.

Abigail: Thank you for being respectful at the funeral, not getting into any more arguments with chad.

Stefan: Well, you know, you, uh--you asked us not to argue, right? Look, if there's anything that, uh, you want, need from me in the future, all you have to do is ask. And I thought what you said about andre at the funeral was, uh--was beautiful. It made me wish I got to know him a little better. So thank you for that.

Stefan: I'm sure you'll want to get to work on the press release announcing gabi's return as soon as possible.

Abigail: I guess.

Stefan: And I know that, uh, andre was your dear friend, so if you're not up to coming back to work right away, I'll understand. I can just, uh, draft up a statement and have you take a look at it. Or we can work together. It's up to you.

Chad: No, you know what? There's really no reason to rush a press release. I mean, besides, you still have to get approval from the board.

Stefan: I'm sure the board will authorize me to bring gabi back.

Chad: Okay, well, then let me just say it a different way. We just lost andre. My wife is grieving. So we're gonna go upstairs and we're gonna spend the rest of the day with our son, okay?

Abigail: You think it's okay? I just feel bad for him to see me crying.

Chad: Let's go. Personal day, yeah.

[Dramatic music]

Vivian: I don't know if you missed it, but chad just put you on notice. You are playing a very dangerous game, my son.

Jj: What's going on? What happened here?

Valerie: I'll leave you two alone. I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Jj: Hey, baby. You look awful. Hey, I could tell something big happened between you and valerie. She said that she wanted to talk to you tomorrow. What did that mean?

Gabi: No, no, this is not what it looks like, okay? Somebody took my key card, or they copied it or something.

Rafe: Okay, you used it when you left andre's office after he fired you. What did you do with it?

Gabi: I don't--I don't-- I don't know. I mean, I was a mess! What, you--you just said you believe me, okay? I-- okay, I left andre's office. Yes, I was mad as hell, but i didn't go back and kill him.

Rafe: I am not saying that you did, okay? I'm just--I'm trying to put the pieces together here, okay? Zoom in on the footage, please, okay? Hopefully we can see if it's a key card, and if there's a god, maybe we can see if it's authentic or not.

Eli: I'll do what I can.

Rafe: Go in closer.

[Tense music]

Gabi: Yeah, that does look like she has something in her hand.

Rafe: Yeah, but that's-- that's too big to be a key card.

Gabi: Well, then what

Rafe: It's the cover to the urn. It's been missing ever since we found andre.

Eli: Then it'S...

Rafe: It's the missing piece to the murder weapon.
