Sami: How about you just take one second and just really think, just really look at me. I--I am your mother.

Will: Get out! I warned you.

Sonny: Just give us a chance.

Rafe: Will!

Sonny: Will.

Sami: Oh, rafe--

Will: Who the hell is this?

Sami: This is so unfair. I can't believe I had to spend the night in jail. I didn't do anything wrong.

Oh, you mean aside from assaulting a woman, giving her a black eye?

Sami: That woman kidnapped my son and held him against his will, and oh, I have to be the one to go to jail, and she gets to go free.

And this young man you claim was kidnapped? He's dead.

Sami: No, my son is not dead. As it turns out, he's alive.

All right...so let me see if I got this straight. Your son, will horton, was raised from the dead, brainwashed, now has amnesia and thinks he's a guy named ej dimera, who, by the way, used to be your husband and is also dead.

Sami: Yes, okay? Yes, that's exactly--

[Laughing]

Sami: It's true. Stop laughing.

You don't give the orders around here, lady.

Sami: Where's rafe?

Oh, your friend, the detective?

Sami: Yes. Detective hernandez. I want to see him right now, please.

Oh, well, see, he was called back to salem on a police emergency. He was very upset he didn't get to say good-bye, so it looks like you're on your own.

Marlena: No, she's not.

Sami: Oh, my god, you're here.

[Soft music]

[Phone beeps]

Paul: [Sighs]

[Line trilling]

Sonny: Hey, this is sonny. Leave a message.

[Line beeps]

Paul: Hey, it's me. Paul. I, uh--I know you might not want to talk to me right now, and I totally get it. I made--I made a huge mistake, and I'm sorry. I love you. I love you so much. I hope that, uh, you and will are... I--I hope you're okay. I just want you to know if you need anything at all, you know, I'm here for you... no matter what.

[Phone beeps]

[Phone beeps]

[Fingers tapping anxiously]

Adrienne: Sonny.

Sonny: [Exhales] Mom.

Adrienne: Oh, honey, you were hoping I was will.

Susan: Ej, I made you a nice big breakfast. Well, now, what happened here?

Will: Are you really my mother?

[Dramatic music]

I need to know the truth. Am I ej dimera, or am I will horton?

[Soft orchestration]

Marlena: What happened? I mean, justin just said that you'd been arrested. I'm not even sure why.

Sami: I got into it with susan banks. I punched her in the face.

Marlena: Really? 'Cause I've wanted to do that a few times myself, maybe even something worse.

Sami: [Chuckles]

Marlena: How dare she. How dare she let you think that your son was dead.

Sami: She's not the only one who did that.

Marlena: What do you mean?

Sami: Paul knew. Paul knew that will was alive, and he didn't say anything to anyone.

John: I know, paul. I know that you're really worried about having will back in the picture and what this might mean for you and sonny, but... man, I got to go on record by saying just how proud I am of you, how courageous it was for you to come forward about seeing will, because if you hadn't done that, son--

Paul: Please, just don'T. Don'T. Dad, you have nothing to be proud of. I mean, if anything, you should be ashamed.

John: Ashamed? What the hell are you talking about?

Paul: Dad, I'm no hero, and the truth is, I'M... I'm a coward and a liar.

Susan: Okay, I see. I get it. You let the mean, mean, mean sami brady lies just get to you, didn't you? Well, I got to ask you a question, ej. Who're you gonna believe, the mother that loves you more than anything in the whole wide world, or the mean, mean, mean sami brady that did this to me?

Will: Oh, my god.

Susan: That's right. She did that to me. You know where that sami brady is right now? She's in jail. You know why she's in jail? Because the sheriff believed my story and not her story, and you know what else? The sheriff showed me will horton's death certificate, so if you need to see some proof, I've got proof for you.

Will: No, I don't-- I don't need to see the death certificate.

Susan: I'm just really glad you believe me. Now, come here, honey. Eat your breakfast. You know...

Will: [Sighs]

Susan: No one can come back to life, not even the king himself, right? Don't tell roger that.

Will: What about-- what about ej dimera? What about me? They keep saying that he's dead, but it should be pretty easy to prove that I'm-- that he's not.

Susan: Where you going?

Will: I'm gonna go get some answers for myself. Copd makes it hard to breathe.

[Dramatic music]

Eli: Hey.

Gabi: Hey, extra shot of espresso 'cause I knew you'd be here all night.

Eli: Thank you. This will definitely help.

Gabi: Wow. Just being so close to this makes it so much more real. I just--I cannot believe that jj shot theo and now he's in a coma. I mean, is this really happening?

Eli: So no improvement?

Gabi: No, not-- not that I know of. I just feel really bad for theo's family. They're--I mean, they must be going through hell, and jj, he must have so much guilt. Hey, rafe.

Rafe: Hey, sis. Eli.

Eli: Hey.

Rafe: Is hope here?

Eli: I haven't seen her all morning.

Rafe: Okay, well, I'm glad you're here because I have got some news that I need to tell you face-to-face.

Adrienne: Honey, I know you didn't want to talk about this last night.

Sonny: There's nothing to talk about, mom. My own husband doesn't know me. We were sitting there like strangers, and I thought if I told him about his child that that is what would break through, but it only made him more upset.

Adrienne: Honey, that's a lot to take in all at once. It's gonna take some time, you know?

Sonny: Yeah, I hope so.

Adrienne: How's paul? I mean, how's he handling all this?

Sonny: [Sighs] I don't know... and I don't care.

John: A coward and a liar? No, I'm afraid not, paul. That's not you.

Paul: Dad, I saw will.

John: Yeah, I know you did. That's why everybody knows that he's--

Paul: No, the other day. Here in memphis while everyone was still here, I saw will, and they asked me point-blank if I knew anything. I said no. I panicked. I mean, I was so afraid that I was gonna lose sonny that I let--I let--I let everyone go back to salem without telling them that will was still alive. I was planning on never telling anyone.

John: I see.

Paul: I lied to your face... and I lied to marlena. I let her believe that her-- her grandson is dead. I can't ask you to forgive me because I am never gonna forgive myself.

Sami: Paul saw will, and he didn't say anything to anyone because he didn't want to lose his chance with sonny. Can you imagine him being so selfish?

Marlena: Look, I understand that you're upset with paul. I really get that. But let's focus on what's important here. Your son is alive, and we have to focus all of our energy on helping will.

Sami: That's the problem, mom. He doesn't want our help.

Marlena: Why do you say that?

Sami: He doesn't want to come home. He doesn't remember us. He doesn't remember me. He didn't even recognize me when I saw him.

Marlena: Oh, honey.

Sami: And worse than that, he thinks we ruined his life. Mom... he thinks that susan banks is his mother. He thinks...he's ej.

Susan: Do you know how much it breaks my heart that you believe that sami brady over your own mama?

Will: Mom, come on.

Susan: I mean, don't you know?

Will: Come on.

Susan: No. That woman, she reaped what she sowed when she lost her son, and now she's trying to take mine away from me.

Will: Okay, okay, okay. It's okay, mom. Okay, okay, slow down.

Susan: You can't let her do that to us.

Will: Slow down. Slow down. Slow down. Sorry. Just answer--can you answer me a question, please?

Susan: Of course, I could answer any question in the whole world. Anything at all, you just ask me right now. Ask me anything you want to ask me right now.

Will: I know we don't get the newspaper, and I know we don't watch tv.

Susan: Well, sometimes we do. We watch the country music channel once in a while.

Will: Yeah, that's right, but... why can't we have a computer like any normal family?

Susan: I already told you. I told you that already. It's not good for growing boys' brains. You know that.

Will: I know you told me that, mom, but I'm not-- frankly, I'm not buying that.

Susan: That's disrespectful, ej. You don't talk to--

Will: I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but can you-- can you answer me? Please, answer. If I go down to the library and I just get on a computer and I get on the internet and I search my own name, will I find out something that you don't want me to know? (Avo) if you've been struggling with belly pain

Sonny: I just didn't get a chance to process what paul did because I was so desperate to find will. But when I think about it-- mom, like...

[Scoffs] I mean, how could he keep that to himself?

Adrienne: Look, honey, I don't blame you for being angry, all right, but his not telling you about will--that doesn't sound like the paul I know.

Sonny: It was paul. He admitted it, mom.

Adrienne: Look, I know. I'm just saying he was desperate, and I'm sure he's afraid he's gonna lose you, sonny.

Sonny: He should be.

John: You know, son, we-- we all have good and bad in us, and in a moment of weakness you made a bad decision, but you--you couldn't let yourself continue the lie. That's where the good part in you, the real paul, came through. Look at me, son. Look at me. If it hadn't been for you, we might never have known will was alive.

Paul: No, sami--sami would've eventually found him.

John: You didn't know that at the time. That's not why you came forward.

Paul: You know what sonny said to me? He said, "let's go home. Let's get married."

[Chuckles] I mean, that was everything that I wanted to hear, but when push came to shove, I thought that-- I mean, how could I do that to him? You know, he had a right to know about will. Everyone did.

John: And now they do. So I guess the bottom line is here: You just have to ask yourself, "who did your lie really hurt in the end?"

Paul: Hmm.

[Chuckles] No one more than me.

Gabi: What's up?

Rafe: Yeah, you know, you might want to sit down for this. You know, it's not bad news, though. It's not. It's about will.

Gabi: What about him?

Rafe: You heard about what happened, memphis, susan banks--

Gabi: Yeah, she says that will really is dead, but is there more to the story?

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, there's more. Okay, listen, we went back to memphis, and we found will. Sis. Sis, look at me. He's alive.

Gabi: Oh, my god!

Rafe: He's alive.

Gabi: Are you saying will's alive?

Rafe: Yes.

Gabi: Are you sure?

Rafe: No, I'm totally sure.

Gabi: Oh, my goodness! That's the best news ever.

Rafe: But wait, wait, wait. Okay? There's more.

Marlena: No, no, wait a minute. Will thinks he's ej?

Sami: Susan told him that I'm his ex-wife. It makes me sick to even think about.

Marlena: Oh, my god. How--how could she possibly convince him of that? I mean, ej is--

Sami: British and tall and... straight and dead.

Marlena: But why would she go to such extremes?

Sami: She hates me that much. She blames me for ej's death.

Marlena: Oh, right, yeah, that's your fault.

Sami: And then remember how she came to salem and she told ej that there was this bad aura around me and that anyone near me was going to get hurt?

Marlena: And she's had two years to fill his head full of that kind of nonsense. I'm so sorry.

Sami: It's just--I risked everything to find will, and then I did, and now he's looking at me like I'm the bad guy.

Susan: So you said you wanted to know all about ej dimera. Well, this here's a box. It's all about you...my ej. Look at that. That's the very first time you had a haircut. It's a little lock of your hair. Look how sweet that is. I tied it with a little blue ribbon. And look at this. That's your very first tooth that you lost. Now, you were something when you were little. Most kids, they get real excited when they lose their baby teeth because they know that it means a visit from the tooth fairy, but not you. You wanted me to stick that tooth right back up in your mouth with super glue.

Will: [Chuckles]

Susan: You were something else. You didn't even want me to hide it under your pillow or nothing. And you see this? That is your birth certificate. It has my name right there, susan banks, and then there's your daddy's name, stefano dimera. Look how cute your little footprint was.

Will: How come I can't read the date?

Susan: That's because somebody smudged it with his sticky fingers 'cause you had peanut butter on everything when you were little. You put it just on bananas and eggs and stuff you wouldn't believe.

Will: [Laughs] I--I did?

Susan: You did. You know who you are. You're my wonderful son, ej dimera. I don't want you to get caught up in sami brady's horrible web of lies anymore, okay? I don't want you to let her hurt you again.

Will: I--I don't understand how I could've been married to her. Mom, the thought kind of horrifies me.

Susan: Well, it makes you kind of want to throw up in your mouth. I know. She has that effect on everybody, I think. It's horrifying.

Will: You know... even if that's true, I--I still have questions. You know, I have more questions. What about--what about all those people besides sami, everyone from salem, the--the cop, that guy, sonny, who kissed me, and he said he was my husband, and he said we have a kid together. Why would he say all that if it weren't true?

Marlena: Sami, I remember when you found out about my affair with john. You were--you were beyond upset. You were outraged. You--you never wanted to see me again.

Sami: But you can't compare that to this situation with will. I mean, yes, I was disillusioned with you.

Marlena: No, no, no, no. Actually, you hated me.

[Soft music]

Sami: Yeah. Yeah, I hated you.

Marlena: Honey, I'm bringing it up to say to you that even after that, you and I, we got past it, and I think that you and will can get past this as well.

Sami: Well, now that I think about it, will's said things like that to me a thousand times. I mean, he's looked at me like that before. Maybe that is will. I mean, it-- that's so will. It's in there somewhere. I mean, maybe that's the way to get through to him. Maybe susan's crazy brainwashing scheme is gonna backfire on her.

Susan: You want to know why everybody's on sami's side? I'm gonna tell you why. Everybody wants to get their hands on the dimera fortune. Everybody wants a piece of you, elvis, 'cause of who you are and where you come from. I've tried so hard to protect you your whole life, and it has not been easy.

Will: [Stammers] Sonny--he seemed so sincere.

Susan: Well, you know why, right? He's on sami's team. She probably manipulated him to.

Will: Yeah.

Susan: I mean, if you think about it, don't you think you'd remember if you were married to a man and you had a child? Right?

Will: Mm.

Susan: You are my everything. I love you so much. I'd do anything for you. I just want you to listen to your heart, okay? 'Cause your heart knows the truth.

Paul: I wish I knew what happened when sonny talked to will last night, but he's ignoring my calls.

John: So you don't even know why will didn't go back to salem?

Paul: Well, if I did, it might clear things up a little, but... when I saw will here at the bar, it was obvious no one was keeping him against his own will.

[Sighs] I--I keep thinking that if he wanted to go back to salem, he would've.

John: That's a good point.

Paul: But there's got to be more to the story that we don't know.

John: Yeah, I know, and doc's saying the same thing.

Paul: Okay, if will doesn't remember his old life, in a way that's worse. Feelings never die. Think about it. Sonny and will were estranged at the time of will's death. If will doesn't remember that, and then sonny never forgives me for my lies--

John: Hey, do you know what, son? I think you're getting ahead of yourself here a little bit, so let's just--

Paul: Will's lapse in judgment might be the thing that pushes sonny back into will's arms. I mean, for all I know they could be together right now.

Sonny: When will died, when we thought he died, he and I were separated.

Adrienne: Oh, I know. So?

Sonny: So why is paul being so insecure about our relationship?

Adrienne: Sonny, can you honestly tell me he has nothing to be afraid of, that you have no feelings for will? Yeah. So what all did you tell will? I mean, did you tell him the last time you saw him, you were separated?

Sonny: I didn't tell him that. I didn't want to lay that on him 'cause he was already feeling overwhelmed.

Adrienne: Okay, I get that. So what are you gonna do next?

Sonny: I have to make him remember who I am and what we had together. I have to go back and try again.

Rafe: And the reason that will hasn't come home is because he was brainwashed. Susan somehow managed to make him think that he is ej--ej dimera.

Gabi: What?

Rafe: Yeah, and that sami is the devil incarnate.

Eli: I--I'm sorry. I don't know any of these people. I'm not following.

Rafe: Yeah, well, I do know these people, and it's still hard to follow, but it happened. This is true.

Gabi: Well, I just-- so hold on. Let me understand this. You're saying that will does not remember me or arianna?

Rafe: No, I'm sorry to say. Hopefully we can get him back here to salem and he'll get his memory back, but...

Gabi: Okay.

Rafe: It's a lot to take in. I know.

Gabi: Yeah, but it's okay. I'm happy. I'm happy for me. I'm happy for arianna. I just feel like I should be doing something.

Rafe: Oh, no. Actually, please, do not do anything, okay? I need to keep this under wraps. Lucas doesn't know about it. I want sami to be the one to tell him, okay?

Gabi: Of course.

Rafe: Okay. I just thought, you know, you're ari's mom, and you should be told about it, right?

Gabi: Oh, thank you. Of course, thank you. Thank you.

Rafe: Yeah. All right, kid, I got to get back to the station. Do you have that file, the one for hope that's--

Eli: Yeah.

Rafe: Oh. Okay, if you need anything, please call me. I love you.

Gabi: I love you too.

[Soft music]

John: I know your mind is going in all these weird places right now, but let's not think about worst-case scenario, okay? Let's just... well, you know works for me is dealing with the facts. Now, the facts are, sonny and will, they had a rocky relationship, and there is a reason why they were separated. Now, if you love sonny as much as I think you do and you're as competitive as I know you are, you won't stop fighting for him.

Paul: But will's marlena's grandson. Don't you want him to be happy?

John: Of course I want him to be happy, just like I want sonny to be happy, but most of all I want you to be happy.

[Cell phone rings] It's doc. She needs me down at the police station. You gonna be okay?

Paul: Yeah, yeah. I'm fine.

John: All right, kid.

Paul: Just go. Tell marlena I'm sorry.

John: All right.

Paul: No, you know what? Don'T. I want to tell her myself.

John: Hey, you hang in there. You know, you and sonny, you found your way back to each other after all those years. If it's meant to be, it will be.

Paul: [Sighs]

Marlena: You know, the memory is such a tricky thing. In the early years, the memories we think that we will never forget, well, they can leave a lasting impression on us.

Sami: So that's what I need to focus on, right, will's memory of him finding out that I lied to him about his paternity and all those years that lucas and I were fighting over him? He'll remember that. He'll be will again, but he'll hate me.

Marlena: That's not what I'm saying. What I am saying to you is, he will remember how much you loved him, that you were the one who loved him the most.

I'm gonna see if I can find out what's happening with justin.

Sami: Okay.

Don't bother. You're sprung.

Sami: I am?

I hope you're paying that lawyer of yours a pretty penny. He's a miracle worker. Got your restraining order lifted too.

Sami: He did? That's--that's incredible. Oh, great. Okay, I have to go find will.

Marlena: No, you know, that might not be the best idea.

Susan: Here we go.

[Dramatic music]

Will: What? What's wrong?

Susan: I'm having a premonition.

Will: Oh, no, and it's scaring you?

Susan: Scaring me. Very bad. That sami brady, she's gonna come, and she's gonna try and take you away. We got to leave. We got to leave here. We got to go. You and me, we got to get out of here. My premonitions are always right. We got to get out.

Will: [Stammering] Why? I like my life here, and I like my job.

Susan: You don't care about your job right now. Just--let's go. We'll just pretend like it's a vacation, okay? We'll come back when things settle down. You can go back to your job then. We got to go, okay, just you and me. Just you and me, what do you say? What do you say? My mom's pain from

Gabi: Here I've been working so hard to keep all this talk about will being alive away from arianna so that she wouldn't keep her hopes up, but I don't know. Maybe--maybe I should be talking about him. Except if he does not remember her, that would be devastating for her.

Eli: I'm sure that she'll know how to handle it when the time comes.

Gabi: I hope so, but what I do know is that I'm gonna wait until I see him myself, and then I can decide what to say and when to say it. I just pray that nobody gets to tell her before I do.

Sonny: Oh, my god. I just thought of something.

Adrienne: What?

Sonny: Today's will's birthday.

Adrienne: Is it?

Sonny: [Chuckles] You know, I... I remember I surprised him a couple years ago at this new lakefront restaurant in chicago, and we decided to make it, like--like this whole thing. Like, we were gonna make a night of it, you know, so we got a hotel, and we get to town. We get dressed up. We go through this whole ordeal, and we get to the restaurant, and they didn't even have our reservation.

Adrienne: Oh, no.

Sonny: 'Cause I remember being so mad 'cause they couldn't accommodate us, and instead of eating at this three-star restaurant, will and I, we go outside. We found this food truck, mom, and we just had tacos at grant park, just the two of us, and... we just had so much fun. We had more fun eating tacos in the park than we would have at that stuffy restaurant.

Adrienne: Plus you saved a few bucks, right?

Sonny: Yeah. It's just crazy to think back then that I-- I mean, we--we thought we had our whole lives ahead of us.

Adrienne: Oh, sonny. Sonny. You still do. Look, I know I'm the last person who should give you advice considering the mess that I made with your father and lucas, but one thing I'm confident in advising you... follow your heart. Okay?

Sonny: Yeah.

Adrienne: Come here, sweetie. Oh, my poor baby.

Yeah?

Sonny: [Exhales]

Sami: Why can't I go see my son?

Marlena: Honey, you told me that will is suffering from memory loss, and you said that susan had tried to poison him against you, and you said that will was upset the last time you spoke. Maybe you don't want to make that any worse.

Sami: Maybe I do. Maybe I should. Okay. Okay, I won'T. Then what am I supposed to do, just sit around and wait for him to come to me?

Marlena: Maybe I should try to talk to him. You know, we were very, very close.

Sami: No.

Marlena: Honey, it might be worth a try.

Sami: Look, I know you were close, and I know you're a shrink, and I know that you are better at this than me.

[Voice breaks] But he's my son, and I have to be the one to get through to him. Can't you understand that?

Marlena: I can understand that.

Sami: Okay. Wish me luck?

Marlena: Oh, honey, I wish you luck.

Sami: He's gonna be okay. He's gonna be okay.

Will: [Exhales]

[Stammers] Okay. Okay, we could use a vacation. All right, you win.

Susan: Yes, okay. Okay. Yes, we can. Now, you come over here.

Will: Right now?

Susan: Yeah, we're gonna get your swim trunks. I'm gonna get my swimsuit 'cause you know what? South america is lovely this time of year, or so I hear anyway. Here you go. Here you go. That should be good enough.

Rafe: Hey, sami. Sorry I didn't get a chance to say good-bye. Hopefully justin's gotten you out of there by now. I'm thinking good thoughts. Anyway, if you need anything, anything at all, just, uh, give me a call. Okay, bye.

[Phone beeps]

Eli: You know, I told rafe that I didn't know any of those people in memphis, but actually will is my cousin. I just never had a chance to meet him.

Gabi: Well, it sounds like you'll get to know him now. He's a terrific father, a great guy. You'll--you'll really like him.

Eli: Look, if you don't mind me asking, how exactly did you and will--

Gabi: Oh. [Chuckles] No, it's fine. Okay, well, will was my boyfriend in high school, and he was still figuring things out, trying to convince himself that he was straight. We slept together one night, kind of around the time when he was realizing he wasn't, and arianna happened.

Eli: And then you and sonny and will raised her together?

Gabi: Unconventional, obviously, but... somehow it worked. Ari's a very strong little girl, and she's lost a lot. I just really hope that she gets her father back.

[Phone beeps]

John: All right, where's samantha?

Marlena: Oh, she went to talk to will.

John: So no stopping her, I'm guessing.

Marlena: Yeah.

John: Hm.

Marlena: I'm worried. If she alienates him, this time she might lose him forever.

Sami: Will... oh, no. Oh, no, she's taken him again. Oh, god.

Susan: I'll be right there. I just...

[Dramatic music]
