Julie: Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah! No flying forks there, mister.

Doug: Your french toast looks so good.

Julie: Well, then, why didn't you order the french toast?

Doug: Well, I thought I wanted fruit salad, but after I get one whiff of your french toast, I had a change of heart.

Julie: [Laughs] There's a lot of that going around.

Doug: Does that mean I'm gonna get some?

Julie: Of course, darling. Everything I have is yours, husband. You know that.

Doug: That's one of the reasons I love you so much.

Julie: [Chuckling]

Doug: Who else had a change of heart?

Julie: Oh, nicole. I got a call earlier from eric, and she's decided she is going to stay on at the horton center.

Doug: That'S...interesting.

Julie: Well, I think it's absolutely terrific.

[Sighs] Who would've thought from misty circle to, uh, mother theresa--

Doug: [Laughs] Julie...

Julie: No, I'm not judging. I'm really impressed. I think this woman has finally found her calling. She is absolutely terrific with the clients, and she's so enthusiastic. She's a real asset to the center, and I'm sure eric is beyond thrilled.

Doug: Well, I hope it works out... for both of them.

[Soft music]

Nicole: Good morning!

Eric: Good morning. Welcome back.

Nicole: Ooh, is that my nameplate?

Eric: Yeah. Yeah, it is. I was actually, um, just gonna put it back on your desk where it belongs.

Nicole: Oh, I am so excited to get to work. I have so many ideas.

Eric: And you have flowers.

Nicole: Yes. [Chuckles] From brady. Listen, I-I wanted to apologize.

Eric: For what?

Nicole: Well, for telling julie that I wasn't interested in coming back.

[Stammers] I was, it's just--

Eric: You have-- you're a new mother. Your life is full, but I am glad you're back.

Nicole: Yes, me too. And there's so much work to get done. I mean, I couldn't sleep last night, thinking of all the things that we could accomplish together. Hey... we make quite a team.

Eric: Yeah, we do.

Nicole: [Chuckles] Ooh, I have to text brady.

[Cell phone chimes]

[Beeps]

Brady: I'm the best. Lucky me. Lucky me.

[Cell phone ringing]

Hope: How is it that the deimos case has gone cold?

Rafe: Well, that's what happens when you got no new leads.

[Ringing continues]

[Phone beeps]

Lani: Be right back.

Jj: And now that we've busted the counterfeiting operation, we could get on this. But with no commissioner, we have no funding, so... what do we do?

Hope: Yeah, well, that's the question, isn't it?

[Phone beeps]

Lani: That was my dad. He just got to the brady pub.

Rafe: Well, let's hope this plan works.

Roman: Wow.

Abe: All right, thank you.

Roman: Raines. Who would have thought? Nothing but a punk. But you played him right down the line.

Abe: You know, I have to admit, my ego wasn't easy with it. Letting my friends and family think that I was a criminal.

Roman: Yeah. How'd theo take it?

Abe: Mm. He was not happy at first, thinking his dad was a crook. But now that he knows everything, we're solid.

Roman: Well, theo's a good man. But then he's got a great role model. You took it to the limit to catch raines.

Abe: Well, sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the greater good. And that's something I've always admired about you.

Roman: What, are you angling for another cup of free coffee?

Abe: [Laughing] I am hoping... you'll come out of retirement, buddy. Take back your old job.

[Soft orchestration]

Hope: I hope abe can get through to roman. He's exactly what this department needs to get back on track.

Jj: I'm all for it. You always step up your game for roman.

Lani: After raines, I am all about working with a boss I can respect.

Rafe: Yeah, true that, but you realize it's not just the pd. Roman is a rock in this community. His reinstatement in this department will help restore trust.

[Cell phone chimes]

Jj: Well, look at that. My tux is ready.

Lani: The wedding countdown's on.

Jj: It's crazy, huh? Sonny and chad get out of jail for something they didn't do, and then, first thing they do is propose to paul and abigail. We have a double wedding on our hands.

Lani: And they've been engaged for what, five minutes?

Jj: Mm-hmm. What's going on with you two? You've been engaged since july.

Lani: Have you set a date?

Rafe: I don't, uh-- no, I don't--not yet.

Jj: What's taking so long?

Rafe: [Chuckles] I don'T... maybe you should ask hope.

Nicole: Okay, now I can get to work.

Eric: That sure is a beautiful family you have there.

Nicole: Oh, I never thought I could be this happy. I have the perfect man, the perfect babies, the perfect job.

Eric: I don't know if the job is so perfect.

Nicole: Well, it will be perfect when I find a place to host our next fund raiser for our adult literacy program.

Eric: Do you have any ideas?

Nicole: Yes, well, people have shown a lot of interest, so I need a space that can accommodate a real crowd. Which is awesome, but...

Eric: We don't have a space.

Nicole: Mm--yet. Yet.

Eric: And there is another issue.

Nicole: Our last fund raiser at the martin house.

Eric: Completely overshadowed by deimos' murder. Whoever killed him in cold blood is still out there.

Nicole: [Chokes, coughs]

Eric: Are you okay?

Nicole: [Coughing]

[Edgy music]

Chloe: So it's true. You are drinking again.

Roman: So you want me to be commissioner again?

Abe: Roman...this town is in crisis. Thanks to raines, the department has lost all credibility. We're getting slammed in the press. Department morale is at an all-time low.

Roman: Yeah. Damn him. God, I feel terrible about stepping down and agreeing to his promotion, but... hell, if I'd only known.

Abe: Well, he fooled us all. So now we rebuild. And for that... I need someone that the people trust. Someone with integrity, strength of character. Someone who will come in and take charge and show the people of salem the police can be trusted. And that person is you.

Roman: You know what, partner? I am honored that you'd think of me that way, but... my answer has got to be no.

Doug: Who do you suppose abe is gonna appoint police commissioner?

Julie: Mm-hmm. Ah! Hey.

Doug: You're as bad as ciara and claire at the table.

Julie: [Scoffs] Nobody is as bad as claire.

Doug: Well, you got a point, but, uh, may we put this away for a few minutes?

Julie: I'm sorry, darling. I just was absorbing a rather interesting news bulletin.

Doug: More interesting than your husband?

Julie: Looks like the government is going to auction off club tbd as a seized asset.

Doug: You're gonna pay a lot of money and take on a pile of headaches.

Julie: Oh, come on. You loved running doug's place. Of course it was a headache. Any business is a headache, but... it was magical. And you made that magic happen... when you sang to me.

Doug: I-I'll never forget the first moment I laid eyes on you.

Julie: You swept me off my feet then. And you still do.

Doug: After all these years, honey... you're the only magic I ever need.

[Soft music]

Brady: It's water, chloe.

Chloe: Oh. It is. I'm sorry, it's just this whole thing with lucas swearing that you two fell off the wagon together.

Brady: Well, he was wrong, 'cause this guy's as sober as a judge, thank you.

Chloe: And with victor vouching for you, who am I to argue?

Brady: Mm. What brings you by?

Chloe: Uh, this. Actually, it's for holly. It's a dress.

Brady: Oh.

Chloe: I was hoping I could give it to her.

Brady: Well, she's-- she's still asleep. She had a long night.

Chloe: Is she okay?

Brady: She's fine, just some sniffles, but... I'll make sure she gets it, okay, when she wakes up.

Chloe: Oh, I remember lots of sleepless nights with that little girl. Oh, she's such a night owl. I swear, sometimes the only thing that worked was singing her to sleep.

Brady: [Chuckles] I will keep that in mind.

Chloe: Where's nicole? Maybe I could hang out with her until holly wakes up.

Brady: [Exhales] Uh, she's at work.

Chloe: She got a job?

Brady: She's back at the horton center. With eric.

Nicole: [Coughing]

Eric: Nicole, are you okay?

Nicole: Just...went down the wrong way.

[Coughs] Sorry. And hearing deimos' name, it just freaks me out.

Eric: He put you through hell. I'm really sorry I brought him up.

Nicole: No, no, it's okay. I-I need to put that behind me and focus on what I have with brady and my kids and this job. And I've made so many bad decisions. It's like my default mode. But I guess now maybe... maybe now that I'm a mother, I just want to make a difference. I want to help people find their way, and this job will let me do that.

Eric: Your dedication, your light... is why we need you here at the horton center.

Nicole: And maybe it's because I bring you lunch sometimes. Oh, and there are my mad grant writing skills.

Eric: Yeah, the maddest ever. I don't know how I could ever... how we could ever do it without you.

Nicole: Speaking of that, can we backburner the fund raiser for a minute? I am working on this new grant, and I would love your advice.

Eric: Uh, yeah. Sure.

Nicole: Okay. So this is the mission statement right here, and I would love for you to tell me what you think. Before we hit the beach,

Abe: Look, before you dismiss this out of hand, just think about it. Take a couple days.

Roman: You know what, I'm afraid my answer will not change.

Abe: Look, I know you're retired and you're done with life in blue, but this is in your blood, buddy.

Roman: [Exhales]

Abe: You know, there's no one I trust more to come in and restore what raines has destroyed.

Roman: You know what, abe, strangely enough, I feel like this is where I need to be. This is where I have to be, to keep mom and pop's dream going, one chowder at a time.

Abe: [Chuckles] So there's nothing I can say to change your mind?

Roman: No, but here's an idea. Why don't you resign, put the badge back on? You're the best commissioner this town's ever had, and who knows? What the hell, maybe I'll run for mayor.

Abe: [Laughs] So you want to be mayor now, huh?

Roman: I am pulling your chain, partner.

Abe: All right, okay, okay. If you won't bail me out, can you at least give me some suggestions for the position?

Hope: Well, I--we... are thrilled for chad and abigail, and sonny and paul. But rafe and I are happy the way things are. We just don't feel the need to run down an aisle right now. Right, hernandez?

Rafe: That's right. Yes.

Hope: Right, yes.

Rafe: You're so right.

Hope: Yeah.

Rafe: She's right, you know. It's just, uh--but if you do change your mind and you want to go down to the courthouse, and say the word, you know, seal the deal, I'm ready. Just let me know.

[Cell phone ringing]

Jj: This is deveraux. Where? Got it. Looks like there was a mugging at the docks.

Rafe: I'm on it.

Hope: No! Um, actually, uh, could you two handle it? I need to handle something with hernandez.

Lani: Yeah, of course. We're on it.

Hope: Thank you.

Jj: Don't go off getting married while we're gone. We would like to be there.

[Both laughing]

Rafe: Okay.

Hope: You'll be the first to get the invitations. Why?

[Stammers] I mean, why-- why did you just do that?

Nicole: So I think maybe if you tweak the statement, make it stronger, that'd be great. What? What--what is it?

Eric: Uh...it's nothing. It's just--you know, I'm thirsty.

Nicole: Oh.

Eric: You know what, I'm gonna get a bottle of water. Can I get you one?

Nicole: Thanks. Sure. Are you sure that's all it is?

[Knocking at door]

Jason: Hello?

Eric: Hey. Good morning. What can we do for you?

Jason: I don't know if you remember me.

[Dramatic music]

Eric: Uh, yeah. Yeah, of course I do. Um, jason from the hospital. Hey.

Jason: Dr. Evans told me where I could find you. Is there any chance we can talk?

Eric: Yeah, of course.

Nicole: Okay, I'll give you some privacy.

Jason: It's okay. There's no secrets here.

Eric: Uh, jason, this is nicole walker.

Jason: Hey.

Nicole: Hi. Nice to meet you.

Jason: This man helped me through the hardest night of my life. I drove drunk, hit another car. I didn't know if the driver was going to live or die. Eric sat with me. Talked me down.

Eric: Hey, listen, no one should go through that alone.

Jason: It was more than somebody just holding my hand. You'd been there, felt everything I was feeling. It took someone who'd been to the hell I was in to reach me. And you did that.

Eric: Sometimes you just need somebody who understands.

Nicole: And the--the person you hit?

Jason: Thank god he lived. That night I swore I'd never drink again.

Eric: Yeah, well, thank god.

Jason: I'm a different man than I was all those months ago. A better man. And it's all because of you.

Chloe: I thought nicole's community service hours were over.

Brady: Uh, they are. They are, actually. But she did such a great job, and julie wanted her to stay on, so she decided to keep working there.

Chloe: Hmm. You're fine with it?

Brady: Absolutely.

Chloe: Well, that's great.

Brady: Yeah.

Chloe: And holly will grow up seeing her mother give back to the community. You know what, I'll probably just stop by there and congratulate her.

Brady: Yeah. No, you should. And thank you again for this dress for holly. Appreciate it. I'll make sure she gets it.

Chloe: Yeah, I expect a picture.

Brady: I'll do that.

Chloe: Uh--hey, uh... I wasn't gonna say anything, but I have to.

Brady: What?

Chloe: I had an ulterior motive for stopping by.

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: Okay, what's going on?

Hope: [Sighs]

Rafe: You're upset.

Hope: I'm not upset.

Rafe: But you--

Hope: No, I'm not. I'm confused. You said you were okay with us not getting married right away. True?

Rafe: Yes.

Hope: Well... you were practically baiting me out there about a wedding date in front of lani and jj.

Rafe: Oh, my--honey, I was teasing, okay?

Hope: Were you?

Rafe: Yes.

Hope: Really? I felt embarrassed. I--a little bit. I did.

Rafe: Okay, well, everyone knows we're engaged, okay? So then naturally, people want to know when you're actually getting married, so... what--what was I supposed to say?

Hope: You--you were supposed to say that we are so happy right now.

Rafe: I am happy.

Hope: With being just engaged.

Rafe: Okay.

Hope: Unless that's not true.

Rafe: Do I look unhappy?

Hope: Rafe, please. Please. Be honest with me. Are you really, really okay with us not getting married right away?

Julie: I remember the opening night of the new doug's place on the lake.

Doug: [Chuckles]

Doug: Well, it's easy to say that on opening night.

Julie: Oh, come on. You loved running doug's place. You know it.

Doug: We had so much fun there. Singing, dancing... celebrating with friends. Most of all, sharing it with you.

Julie: You know, you could always buy another place.

Doug: Well, it's a lovely thought, but... that time has gone and passed, my dear.

[Soft music]

Chloe: So I drove around the block maybe three times to try to work up the nerve to come in here.

Brady: Really? This ulterior motive must be, uh, pretty big.

Chloe: Well, um... I want to buy club tbd. The government seized dario's property, and it's going on the auction block today.

Brady: I thought you just wanted to sing there. You want to own it now? I mean, that's quite a big jump.

Chloe: Yeah, I know it's a big jump, but I'm tired of being at other people's mercy. If I had my own club, then I could be in control of my destiny, and I could have some stability for parker, and I could have a place that I could grow and be proud of.

Brady: Makes sense. I mean, it's-- it's really ambitious of you.

Chloe: Yeah, it's actually so ambitious that I can't really afford to buy it, so I was hoping... maybe if by any chance you would consider giving me a loan.

Brady: [Exhales deeply] You want a loan?

Chloe: Yeah. Look, I-- I feel like it's gonna go for a really great deal, and I will pay you back as soon as business picks up, and I have a lot of great ideas for the place, like I've-- I would put in a stage, because I want local acts to perform, and there would be a karaoke night, 'cause who doesn't love karaoke, right?

Brady: Right. Love it.

Chloe: [Laughs] Okay, I know it's a lot of ideas right now, and I--I know it's asking a lot, and I would totally understand if you said no, but I just--

Brady: Yes.

Chloe: Really?

Brady: Chloe, you are one of the most talented singers I know. You always work hard. I'd be silly not to invest in you and your potential.

Chloe: Oh, my god.

[Stammering] Uh, thank you. This is--

Brady: You're welcome.

Chloe: Amazing. I don't-- I don't know what happens next. Do you--do you want a financial statement, or we could work on collateral, whatever-- whatever you need.

Brady: Stop, stop, stop, stop. No, no. Come on, you're my-- you're my friend. You always have been. I want the best for you. If this club is gonna do that for you, then damn it, I'm gonna do everything I can to make it happen.

Chloe: [Laughing] Thank you.

Brady: You're welcome.

Chloe: Oh, my god, thank you, thank you.

Brady: It's--oh!

Chloe: Thank you, thank you.

Brady: Thank you. [Chuckles]

Eric: Oh, no. I owe you a debt of thanks.

Jason: I don't see how that's possible.

Eric: Yeah, well, until that night, I had been living in the shadows, eaten with guilt. I was offered a job here, but I turned it down because I didn't think there was anything I could offer... until your words made me realize that there was something I could offer to the people that I hurt. The tragedy I caused. So yes. It has. Thank you.

Jason: [Chuckles] If something I said encouraged you to put people like me back together...I'm glad.

Eric: So what's happening now? What's the plan?

Jason: [Exhales] I just finished six months jail time, so I'm not sure. I was a teacher in child development. I've been applying to different schools, but convicted felons aren't exactly in demand.

Nicole: Well, you know, the center has a number of services that helps with job placement.

Eric: Yeah.

Nicole: I'm sure we can give you a hand.

Jason: That would be great. I'll email my résumé later today, if that's okay?

Nicole: Well, I will keep a look out for your email.

Jason: Thank you both for your kindness. I'll--I'll let you get back to it.

Eric: Hey. Be proud of what you've accomplished. It all starts now.

Jason: I'll see you around.

Nicole: Yeah. Bye, jason.

[Door closes]

Eric: I'm really sorry you had to hear all that. I'm sure it reminded you of daniel and the night that I, uh...

Nicole: It's okay. It reminds me that what jason said is true. You are an amazing man. Ohn's disease.

Lani: Good work, detective.

Jj: Not so bad yourself, detective.

Lani: Well, I'm just glad the victim wasn't hurt.

Jj: Yeah. At least we got a good description of the perp.

Lani: Thanks to you. That witness did not want to talk. But you just-- you have this thing that you do. You're really great at getting people to trust you. To open up.

Jj: Sometimes we just have to remind people that we're the good guys, and that we just want to help. Especially after what raines pulled, it's more important than ever. I want the people we serve to know that we're not him.

Lani: You really love this job, don't you?

Jj: I do. I was such a screw-up when I came back into town. Wrong crowd, mad at the world. This job, the responsibility, what I've learned about people, myself... I finally feel like I'm doing what I was meant to do. It feels great.

[Gentle music]

Doug: More coffee, sweetheart?

Julie: Ah, no thank you. I've have to go. I have an errand to run.

Doug: I don't remember there being an errand on our agenda for today.

Julie: Oh, well, this one just came up. [Chuckles]

Doug: Well, I'll pay the tab and go with you.

Julie: Ah, no, no. It's not that kind of an errand.

Doug: I know that look. What are you up to?

Julie: You'll find out soon enough. And you'll thank me for it.

Doug: [Chuckles]

Chloe: Oh, wow. Whoo. That many zeroes makes me kind of nervous.

Brady: Don't be nervous. You're gonna put it to good use.

Chloe: Okay, last chance for you to tear it up.

Brady: Don't do it, don't!

Chloe: [Laughing]

Brady: Sorry. It's not gonna happen. I know these last couple years have been challenging for you. You've been bouncing around from city to city, chicago, new york, and not really landing anywhere, and... this will give you some stability.

Chloe: You're incredible. I can't thank you enough.

Brady: What else are ex-husbands good for besides shelling out cash to their ex-wives?

Chloe: Good point. [Laughs]

Brady: Yeah. At least I could help someone out.

Chloe: What does that mean?

Brady: Oh, I, uh-- I offered nicole a job at titan, working with me.

Chloe: Oh, well, with her experience at basic black, that seems like a perfect fit.

Brady: Yeah, I thought so too. But she turned me down. Turns out she wanted to go back to the horton center and work with eric.

Chloe: And are you okay with that?

Brady: [Sighs] Honestly, no. I mean, I-I wasn't at first, but... the three of us had some awkward moments, but we came to an understanding. I was wrong about a couple things. The bottom line is, we got through it. Everything's out in the open. Everything's clear.

Chloe: Oh, that's--

Brady: And it's all good. Yeah.

Chloe: That's great. Oh, and I really admire eric for being straight with you about his feelings for nicole.

Brady: I'm sorry, what?

Rafe: Come on. Come on, you know what I want, right? You...you know that I would marry you today, but that's not what you want, so I'm trying to respect that, and actually, I feel like you should be cutting me a little slack while I try and, uh, wrap my head around that.

Hope: You're right. I'm sorry.

[Sighs] I was being difficult. Do--do you think I'm difficult? I mean, sometimes.

Rafe: [Stammers]

Hope: Not always.

Rafe: You know what, I-- I don't--see, I can't really honestly answer that question, because I could--

Hope: Careful now.

Rafe: Exactly, okay?

Hope: [Gasps]

Rafe: No, stop, stop. Here's what I think. Here's what I think. I think you are a very strong-willed woman who knows exactly what she wants. And as long as you want me, I'm willing to wait.

Hope: You know I want you.

Rafe: Okay.

Hope: I love you. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to go off like that.

Rafe: It's okay. I wasn't really...

Hope: [Chuckles]

Rafe: And I'm sorry, by the way, for embarrassing you in front of jj and lani. I love you.

Hope: Just a little. I love you.

Rafe: Wait, so--

Hope: What?

Rafe: Are--are we good?

Hope: Yes, we're good. We're better than good. We are so, so good. Yeah.

Rafe: Well... endless honeymoon continues.

Doug: [Laughing] I thought this was supposed to be a place of business.

Rafe: I'm sorry, I'M...

Hope: Mm, mm.

Rafe: I'm sorry. Excuse me.

Hope: Daddy, hi.

Rafe: I was, uh--I was--

Doug: Rafe.

Rafe: Yes.

Doug: Never, never, never apologize for loving the heck out of a woman, especially my daughter.

Doug: Everything is dandy. I was just in the neighborhood, thought I would pop by for a visit.

Rafe: Well, it's always great to see you, sir.

Doug: Actually, I was hoping for an update on ciara. I would have thought she'd be home for the fall semester by now.

Hope: Oh, my gosh, daddy, she is having so much fun in hong kong, but don't worry, she--she promised me she would be back in time for the following semester.

Doug: Well, long as my granddaughter is home for your wedding, all will be well. Have you set a date yet?

[Soft music]

Brady: Eric told you that he loves nicole?

Chloe: I didn't say that.

Brady: You said "feelings." You--you said that he had feelings.

Chloe: [Stammers] I'm sorry. I shouldn't have opened my mouth and said anything.

Brady: No, no, it's--chloe. It's okay. I know. No, I-I know that-- that eric has feelings for nicole. Like I said, we're in the open about it. I just hadn't realized that he had told you.

Chloe: Yeah, and I told him that he'd have to deal with those feelings eventually, and for him, I guess that meant telling you.

Brady: Mm-hmm. Well, one thing about my brother, he is-- he's all about the truth.

Chloe: Yeah, and you are being so understanding, especially with nicole and eric working side by side every day.

Brady: Look, nicole loves me. I trust her completely. Eric is just gonna have to deal with those feelings, period.

Chloe: Yeah, exactly. And--and nicole is crazy in love with you. Don't forget that.

Brady: I won't forget that. You have an auction to get to.

Chloe: Yes, I do.

Brady: Yes, you do.

Chloe: Thank you again for that loan. You are the best. Thank you.

Chloe: Mm, okay.

Chloe: Thanks.

Nicole: I just printed out jason's résumé. Wow. It's impressive. I definitely think we can help him, even with a conviction on his record.

Eric: That's great. I think he's got a lot of promise.

Nicole: And a future. Because of you.

Eric: No, I just talked to him.

Nicole: You talked him through hell. You used what tore you apart to help him pick up the pieces. Look... those comfort words you spoke to him I'm sure reminded you of what happened with daniel, and that couldn't have been easy.

Eric: It's jason, jason who did all the work.

Nicole: Yeah, but you inspired him. That's what you do. You--you breathe hope into people, and strength. Look what you did in africa st. Luke'S. You even did it in prison.
