Brady: Nicole? Still up.

Nicole: Yeah, I-I was... waiting for you.

Brady: Sorry. Things are crazy at the office, and it looks like tomorrow's gonna be just as crazy. You been crying? What's wrong?

Roman: No, no, last I heard, she was on her way home to wait for you. Yeah, absolutely. I will let you know if I hear from her. Eric, um...you seen your mom?

Eric: No. I haven't seen her all day. Is something wrong?

Hope: [Low murmuring] Jj, hey.

Jj: Hey, you guys look pretty intense--what's going on?

Hope: Have you talked to abigail tonight?

Jj: No. I was on a stakeout. I turned my phone off. Why do you wanna know?

Rafe: You can do the honors.

Jj: Yeah, I--I have nothing. Why do you need abigail?

Hope: Eli went to the martin house tonight looking for dario. He wasn't there. Neither was abigail. We've been trying to reach her, and... jj, the fbi set up a deal for dario...to go into witness protection, but he never showed up.

Jj: Okay, wait a minute. Witness protection?

Rafe: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Tell him, hope. Tell him what my brother's been up to.

Hope: Dario was the one who hacked into countess wilhelmina.

Jj: What?

Rafe: Yeah. Apparently, he was taking some time off of the counterfeiting scheme.

Jj: Okay, he was counterfeiting... and he made a deal with the feds. How? I mean, what was he giving up? It would have to be big.

Hope: You know the feds. They're tight-lipped.

Rafe: Yeah. But my guess is that it had something to do with a drug operation, that he was naming some guys from his past. It is so good to really get to know your little brother.

Hope: Dario disappeared.

Jj: And you can't find abigail.

Rafe: No.

Hope: Not yet.

Jj: What the hell is goin' on?

[Soft music]

Gabi: Chad?

Kate: It's me.

Gabi: Oh. Sorry. I'm a little jumpy.

Kate: Why? What's wrong?

Gabi: Just waiting for chad. He's been gone for a couple hours. He went looking for abigail.

Kate: Abigail?

Gabi: Yeah. I just haven't heard from him since he left, so just kind of...waiting.

[Rapid beeping]

[Soft crying, sniffling]

[Soft pounding]

[Beeping continues]

[Dramatic music]

[Pounds]

Jennifer: Chad. Where's abigail--is she okay?

Chad: Uh...she's, uh, in the, uh...with kayla in the E.R. And, um, I don't know--the monitors have been going off.

[Sobbing]

Jennifer: You're talking like she's not gonna make it. Chad!

[Dramatic musical buildup]

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Kate: So, um... why did chad go looking for abigail?

Gabi: He's worried. Look, dario is going into witness protection.

Kate: How nice for him.

Gabi: And abigail is going with him.

Kate: You told chad that?

Gabi: Just--I don't understand why she would do that--I mean, this was a green card marriage. She's not even in love with dario. She would be leaving her baby, she would be-- you knew. You knew.

Kate: Look, I'm not gonna tell you, because this clears the way for you and chad.

Gabi: What? Cl--I'm sorry. "Clears the way"?

Kate: Mm-hmm.

Gabi: This woman is going into witness protection--why in god's name would she do that?

Kate: She's not known for her rational thinking, now, is she?

Gabi: Look, don't play glib with me. I know you know why she went with him...don't you?

Kate: Actually, yes. I do.

Jj: You're telling me my sister is married to a guy who's about to turn in drug dealers, and you don't know where she is?

Hope: We're working on it.

[Phones ring in background]

Rafe: Tell him.

Jj: Tell me what? Tell me what?!

[Tense music]

Hope: She's going with him.

Jj: No, she can't! That's crazy! What about--what about thomas?

Hope: We don't understand it either.

Jj: Does she know what witness protection is, how it works...that she'll never see any of us again?

Hope: Apparently, she does.

Jj: My god. No, she wouldn't do this again. She wouldn't leave us again. It doesn't make any sense.

Hope: Commissioner.

Raines: Detective. Deveraux, I'm glad you're here. Afraid I have some bad news. Your sister's at university hospital.

Jj: What?

Raines: She was a victim of a hit and run.

[Tense music]

Kayla: Clear! Come on, abigail! Come back to us. You hear me?

[Rapid beeping]

[Somber music]

Jennifer: Please tell me what happened.

Chad: [Clears throat] I, uh-- I caught up to abby in the parking lot. Do me a favor--stay dead, please! I didn't see the car coming... at first.

Dario: You don't deserve her. Walk away--just walk away.

Chad: How do I not deserve her? I heard something--dario dove out of the way. When I turned and I saw the car coming, I just, I... I couldn't move.

Abigail: Chad!

Chad: I just stood there.

[Engine revs] Abby came running at me, she--

[Tires screeching] Abby! She pushed me out of the way. She saved my life. Now she could die... because of me.

[Intense musical buildup]

Yikes...

Eric: Think mom's all right?

Roman: Yeah. Yeah, I do. Look, I can't tell you how many times when we were married i would come home, find dinner burning in the oven 'cause your mom had dropped everything to go take care of an emergency with a patient.

Eric: Yeah, growing up, i used to think mac and cheese was supposed to be charbroiled.

Roman: [Laughs] You poor kid.

Eric: Hmm. Well, you know, I actually kinda liked it. I thought, hey, my parents are both pretty cool, got cool jobs.

Roman: You got a cool job. That center has been doing very well since you took over.

Eric: Yeah. Thanks to very generous donations.

Roman: So is, uh... nicole still working there?

[Soft music]

Eric: Yeah...

Roman: How's that workin' out?

Nicole: And eric... I forgive you.

Eric: Fine, I guess.

Brady: Is it holly?

Nicole: It'S...hardest at night. I should be...putting her to bed, not wondering if she's had a good day or if she's happy.

Brady: I know.

Nicole: Which makes me even more emotional about...

Brady: About what? Nicole, did something else happen?

[Somber music]

Raines: Driver fled the scene. And...surprise, surprise: So did your brother. Bureau put out an apb on him.

Rafe: Yeah. How's abigail?

Raines: It's not good--her injuries are life-threatening.

Hope: Oh, my god, jj--

Jj: I gotta go.

Rafe: Hey, I'll drive.

Raines: Hold on--you two aren't going anywhere.

Rafe: We--

[Dramatic music]

Kate: You're forgetting that we're talking about abigail. You see, you would never leave your baby and go off with a man that you didn't love, but she would. She wants to get back at chad. She wants to get back at him for moving on with you. I'm telling you, gabi, the only thing stable about abigail is her instability.

Gabi: I just think she loves thomas too much to leave.

Kate: Oh, really? 'Cause she's done it before. I mean, this isn't the first time that she's left everyone behind...I mean, this is the pattern with her.

Gabi: Well, I really don't care about...her pattern as much as chad'S.

Kate: What--what's that mean?

Gabi: Just means, look, we got into a fight last night. I was feeling angry and hurt that he was carrying her wedding ring around.

Kate: Wait. Do you think that he still has feelings for her?

Gabi: Well, he said it was nothing and, I mean, I wanna believe that, just...

Kate: You just what?

Gabi: The night of the party, they renewed their vows. They kissed. And I know that they were all drugged up, but something changed. And because of that change, something happened between chad and me.

Kate: Okay...whatever. I know you're worried about this, but the truth is, she's going now, and you're the one that he chose.

Gabi: I know. I just hate feeling all, like... insecure and needy. You know, when I mentioned that abigail was leaving town, he ran out of here--I didn't even get a chance to tell him that the marriage was a fraud.

Kate: Okay, honey, o-of course he went running after her--he didn't want thomas to lose his mother again. Because that is all that abigail is to chad: She's the mother of his son. You play this whole thing the right way...that's all she's ever gonna be.

[Somber music]

Jennifer: I just--I don't understand. Why did you wanna see abigail?

Chad: Why do you think? She was leaving town, and i wanted to know how she could do it without saying good-bye to... to our son.

Jennifer: What are you talking about?

Chad: Her going into witness protection.

Jennifer: What?

Chad: What do you mean what? I thought you knew...she said that you were gonna bring thomas to the police station--

Jennifer: I have no idea what you are talking about right now.

Chad: So she could say good-bye.

Jennifer: No, you are mistaken--she would never leave without him. She wouldn't do that.

Chad: Well, she did before.

Jennifer: That was different! She wasn't even in her right mind--she would never leave with dario. I mean, their marriage wasn't even A...

Chad: Even...what?

[Dark music] What? The smoother the skin, the more comfortable you are in it.

Brady: If something's wrong, you need to tell me about it.

Maggie: Um...[Ahem]. I'm sorry to interrupt. Uh, brady, tate had another nightmare...and we can't seem to calm him down.

Brady: Ah...

Nicole: Go take care of tate.

Brady: All right.

Nicole: Thank you, maggie.

Maggie: Yeah, sure. Well...good night, honey.

Nicole: M-maggie... thank you for sending the latest pictures of holly. I love them.

Maggie: Well, I know you're, I don't know, always asking for them... but...sometimes I wonder if they're a help or a hurt.

Nicole: Well, I can't say they don't make me a little teary. They definitely help.

Maggie: Good. If it means anything from where I'm standing, you're handling all of this about as well as it can be handled.

Nicole: What else am i supposed to do, maggie? I have to do whatever it takes to get holly back.

Maggie: Well, it can't be easy for you, working at the center.

[Soft music]

Nicole: When the judge told me... that I had to work there, let's just say I was not happy. But now I think it's a good thing.

Maggie: Really?

Nicole: Because if I... hadn't been working there... then I...I wouldn't have been able to forgive eric.

[Emotional music]

[Country rock in background]

Roman: All right. So, uh... she forgave you.

Eric: Yeah, she did. Something I didn't think she could ever do. Dad, what is with the look?

Roman: Well, you know what? I still have a hard time... stomaching the fact that nicole was judging you in the first place. She's not exactly st. Agnes of assisi.

Eric: I didn't mind. And it's all worked out.

Roman: All right, good. Well, now that she'S... forgiven you and it's all worked out... what next?

Hope: Why are you stopping us?

Raines: I need you here.

Hope: Abigail is my cousin. She needs me. So does jj, so does their mother!

Raines: There's nothing you can do there. Damn it, she works here. She's one of ours. She took a hit meant for your brother. Don't you think we owe it to her to go find him? Look, you can go to the hospital and pace and sip old coffee, or you can do your job so we can tell abigail's mother and her brother we got the son of a bitch that did that to her!

[Edgy music]

Rafe: Okay.

Chad: Her marriage wasn't even what? Jennifer--hey, her marriage wasn't even what?

Jennifer: Jj!

Jj: Hey.

Jennifer: Oh, god!

Jj: How is she?

Jennifer: Kayla's with her right now, but...it's really bad.

Jj: What the hell happened?

Chad: This car came out of nowhere.

Jj: Did you do this?

Chad: Excuse you?

Jj: Dario was stealing from you--isn't this exactly how dimeras deal with someone who steals from them?

Jennifer: Please don't do this right now, please.

Jj: And my sister got in the way, right? God, how much has she been through 'cause of you and your family?

Jennifer: This is not the time.

Jj: No, I saw the report. She shoved you out of the way. You and dario... neither one of you are worth the powder to blow you away. The two of you pull all this crap...and she's the one... let me tell you something. She better not die, damn it. If she does, it's on you.

[Dramatic musical sting]

Eric: "What next?" What is that supposed to mean?

Roman: Means I know what happened at the party.

Eric: We were drugged.

Roman: In vino veritas, right?

Eric: No, wrong, dad. She forgave me for killing daniel, and now you're asking me if she'S...gonna go with me to the prom?

Roman: Hey, don't try to laugh this off, all right? The two of you--there's pull there, always has been. And if you wanna stay sober and she wants to keep that baby, then both of you better be damn honest how you feel about each other.

[Soft, somber music]

Maggie: I am so happy that you forgave eric. For your sake.

Nicole: I know I should have a long time ago. And I...know that's what daniel would have wanted me to do. But I just couldn't do it. Maggie, if I... if I tell you something, will you promise not to think that I'm crazy?

Maggie: I will try.

[Quiet instrumentals]

Nicole: Daniel... I saw him. I did. And eric did too, and I know we were drugged and I know it was a weird hallucination, but... daniel told me...he wanted me to forgive eric.

Maggie: I don't think that's crazy. I think...it's love.

Nicole: But what bothered me is that I wanted to, and I just couldn't do it, and I felt like I was letting daniel down.

Maggie: No, no!

[Sighs] It took you just some time... to get there.

Nicole: Well... you know, something happened yesterday. I was... looking for something in eric's drawers at work and I found A... a stack of letters that he had written to me.

Maggie: In his desk?

Nicole: [Softly] Yes. When eric was in prison...he had written to me asking for forgiveness. And, uh...I sent one of the letters back unopened and... they just stopped coming. But eric...never stopped writing them.

Maggie: And those were the letters that you found.

Nicole: They were addressed to me, so... I read them. Ohh... losing daniel...shut me down. But I think having holly opened me back up. And when I...when I read those letters, I could see how much pain eric was in.

[Laughs] I mean, imagine that-- nicole walker finally...finally saw, finally considered what someone else was going through. And maggie, I... I didn't just decide to forgive him. I just did it.

[Small laugh] And when I...when I told eric... I could feel that daniel was close to me.

Maggie: Oh, honey. He was.

[Whispers] He was.

[Soft music]

You know...you know you did the right thing, right? But you're not...you're not... you're not happy, are you?

Nicole: I'm just worried how brady's gonna take it.

Kate: Have you talked to chad about any of this?

Gabi: No, I didn't get a chance. He took off as soon as i mentioned abigail. Why do you keep checking your phone?

Kate: Uh...[Stammers] I'm expecting a message from andre. We're doing a business deal.

Gabi: Don't let me keep you.

Kate: No, honey, where are you going?

Gabi: I'm gonna grab arianna and I'm gonna go home, 'cause when chad gets back, I don't wanna be poor, pitiful gabi just waiting on the couch.

Kate: Okay, gabi...just call him.

Gabi: Why? Why would I call him? I mean, I...I'm sorry. I don't wanna find out that he's with abigail. And I don't wanna find out that he's talked her into not leaving with dario. And I really, really don't wanna find out that abigail told him she only married dario for his green card, so now he's decided to take her back.

Kate: Okay, look, I really think you're overreacting. I really do.

Gabi: Am I? Hmm? Because as far as I know, they could be together right now.

Jennifer: Stop. Stop this right now. This is not helping anything. Be angry at the driver of the car, be angry at dario for putting her in this position, but do not do this right now. We need to be praying for abigail.

[Edgy music]

Kayla: Jennifer...

Jennifer: How is she?

[Edgy music]

severe internal hemorrhaging due to the impact of the car. We need to take her to surgery to repair the damages. But first I need you to sign a consent form.

Jennifer: Yeah, of course.

Kayla: Before you do that, I'd really like to explain the risks involved. Her condition is very unstable due to the blood loss. Anesthesia is risky. But in my opinion...delaying the surgery would be riskier still.

[Somber music]

Jennifer: What would you do if it were stephanie?

Kayla: I'd consent.

Jennifer: Sorry.

Hope: Hey, cuz, uh, it's me. Rafe and I are working, trying to track down whoever the hell did this to abigail. Be there as soon as I can, all right? I love you. Praying for abigail. Okay, I-I'll...I'll see you soon.

Rafe: Hey. You're gonna go to the hospital, and I'm gonna handle raines.

Hope: No, I hate to say it, but he's right. I-I can do more here. I'm not sure I'm the one... that jennifer needs to see right now.

Rafe: You're thinking about zack, aren't you?

Hope: I don't want her to go through what bo and I went through. Let's find this son of a bitch, okay?

[Melancholy music]

Rafe: [Quietly] Okay.

Kate: Okay. Maybe... maybe chad and abigail are together right now. Why wouldn't they be? After you told him that she was running off with another man without even saying good-bye to her baby? You know, maybe they have a lot to talk about. But I don't think he's gonna feel exactly loving towards her. He's probably gonna want to throttle her.

Gabi: I suppose.

Kate: Gabi, when he gets back here, you need to be here... level, rational gabi. You're the anti-abigail. You're the strong woman that he fell in love with. You're the woman that got him through it when he thought his wife had died. Hey, do you, um...do you remember when we were trying to dispose of nick's body after you clocked him with a rock? Do you remember that?

Gabi: That does ring a bell.

Kate: Yeah, well, you know, do you know how much you were getting on my nerves? I mean, it was crazy. You were so fragile and you were emotional, and you weren't any damn help at all.

Gabi: Thank you for sharing that.

Kate: Well, I'm sharing this with you to let you know that you are no longer that girl. You are a strong, strong, capable woman.

Gabi: Yeah, well, prison will do that to you.

Kate: If he's with abigail right now...he's with craziness. You need to call him and let him know that sanity is waiting here for him. You need to call him. You need to fight for him.

[Soft instrumentals]

Kayla: Abigail is fighting hard. We've called in our best trauma surgeon. I'm going to scrub in and assist, and I will be in the O.R. With her the entire time.

Jennifer: Can we just please see her really quick?

Kayla: Just for a moment, okay, while they're prepping for the O.R. Wait, wait, chad. It's only family right now, okay? Thanks.

[Somber music]

[Phone rings]

Chad: Hello.

Gabi: Hey. It's me. Did you, um, did you find abigail?

Chad: Uh...yeah. But, uh, something terrible has happened.

Maggie: I don't think you need to worry about brady. I mean, he's--he's gonna be so happy that you forgave eric. Happy for you.

Nicole: Maybe. I mean, he said he'd try to, but...

Maggie: Well, what does that mean?

Nicole: Well...[Sighs]. When brady found out I woke up in eric's arms after the party, I mean, he said he'd try to let it go.

Maggie: Well, he did. I mean, he knew you were both drugged...that it didn't mean anything. I mean, he even told me that he was gonna apologize to eric for overreacting.

Nicole: Well, that didn't work out very well...because brady found me talking to eric again, of course, and...he said he would try to let that go. But brady knows chapter and verse my history with eric, and what if he can't let this one go? I mean, what if...what if he thinks that my forgiving eric is proof that there's still something there?

Maggie: Well... well, then that's the $64,000 question. Nicole...is there still something there?

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: Right. Okay, well, keep me posted.

[Edgy music]

Okay. Crime scene guy says there's no cctv in the parking lot. Uh...they established where the guy was parked, which proves that this was planned. And they've got abigail's clothes on the way to the lab right now to see if they can find some paint transfer, so... yeah. Estimate that the car was going 30 miles an hour when it hit abigail.

It's his fault. This is all his damn fault.

[Small laugh] He's my brother. He's my brother, my own damn brother. Why doesn't he tell me that he's in trouble? Why does...I mean, why-- doesn't call me...

[Sighs] I don't know. Maybe he's already dead.

Hope: Don'T. Okay? You don't know that. You don'T.

Rafe: You know what I do know? Know what I know is that someone's trying to kill him. I know witness protection can't help him anymore.

[Edgy music]

I know I'll probably never see him again.

Chad: Dario took off and, uh, no one knows where he went.

Gabi: Is abigail gonna be okay?

Chad: Uh, I don't knoW. It'S...it's really bad.

Gabi: I'll be right there.

[Phone beeps]

[Beep]

[Quiet instrumentals]

Jennifer: Is she in any pain?

Kayla: [Quietly] No.

[Monitor beeping steadily]

[Jewelry clatters softly]

Jennifer: Hey, doll. Hi, baby.

Oh, I remember when these little baby fingers...

[Laughs] Wrapped around mine for the first time.

[Monitor beeping]

I remember...bringing you here as a little girl... right here to this E.R., And they told me that you had aplastic anemia, and... they told me that you might not make it, but... you did make it. And guess what. You're gonna make it again. You're gonna pull through this, and you're gonna be fine. You have so many people that need you, baby. You have thomas... your brother. Your brother really needs you.

[Sobs] And I need you. Doll, I need you. I need you to live.

Jj: She's going to, mom.

Jennifer: Please.

Jj: She's going to. Love you, ab.

[Somber music]

[Jennifer sniffling]

Jennifer: Oh, my sweet, sweet baby.

[Crying] Oh, my sweet baby.

[Sniffles] Ohh...

[Dramatic musical sting]

Eric: Dad, just-- butt out.

Roman: No! Damn it, eric. Working at that center saved your life. Then that damned judge goes and shoves nicole right in the middle of it. But at least she hated you and you knew it.

Eric: Okay, what part of butting out don't you understand?

Roman: Hey, listen to me. How many times you two been together? How many times has it ended well? And when it blows up again... how bad are you gonna want a drink?

Eric: Dad, don't! She forgave me, she and brady. They are together now--my brother--and I'm okay with that because she wants to be my friend again. The subject is closed. Are we clear?

Nicole: No. Maggie, no, okay? Eric and I are just friends. Please, I just forgave him, but there's nothing going on between us...not the way you mean. And I'm not even talking about eric and me.

Maggie: You weren't?

Nicole: No, I'm [Lowers voice] Talking about brady and how he'll react.

Maggie: So you think that brady is gonna be upset because you were able to forgive eric?

Nicole: Well, think about it. I told you I read the letters, and you automatically think that something's going on between eric and me. And brady is already upset about us.

Maggie: I'm not sure that's true.

Nicole: You know what, this isn't even about just the eric thing, okay? Brady is...is so stressed out about everything that's going on at titan, I just don't think he needs anything more.

Maggie: Nicole...in the past, when has keeping a secret ever worked out for you?

Nicole: I'm not keeping a secret, maggie. I'm just putting a pin in it.

Maggie: Right. And that's a completely different matter.

Nicole: Another thing. I just...I don't want anything to come between him and eric. They're brothers, and they need each other. I really do think I'm doing the right thing.

Maggie: Okay. I respect that.

Nicole: Maggie, you do understand everything I told you here tonight was in confidence. Right?

Maggie: Right.

Nicole: I don't like keeping things from brady. But I see no reason for him to know about what happened between eric and me.

[Soft musical buildup]

Rafe: Just got a tip that dario might have been seen at the train station.

Hope: Let's go.

[Suspenseful music]

Kate: [Sighs] Damn it, andre, where are you? Call me--it's urgent.

[Tense music]

Brady: Sorry that took a while.

Maggie: Ah...

Nicole: So he's back to sleep?

Brady: Yeah, finally, finally.

Maggie: Well, I guess I'll be saying good night.

Brady: Did you two have a nice little chat?

Nicole: Yes. Yes, we did. Good night, maggie. Thank you.

Maggie: Okay.

Nicole: Sleep well.

Maggie: Good night, my dears.

Brady: Good night.

Maggie: [Small laugh]

Brady: So, hey...you seem better.

Nicole: Huh?

Brady: Well, before, you seemed a little upset, and now you...seem a little better.

[Liquor pours]

Nicole: Oh, right, I guess. Yeah.

Brady: Well, it's probably easier talking to maggie about whatever it is that's bothering you. Couldn't talk to me about it, but I understand--

Nicole: Nothing is bothering me. I told you I was just a little emotional...about holly. That's it.

Brady: I know. I-if...there's anything that's upsetting you, nic, then--

Nicole: No, there isn'T.

Brady: I wanna make sure that there's nothing in the world that you can't share with me.

Nicole: I know, and I can, and I will. You know it.

[Soft orchestration]

Roman: All right, all right. Case closed. Subject's dropped.

Eric: Good.

Roman: Sorry I said anything. Sorry I...invaded your privacy.

Eric: No. No, you're not.

Roman: Hey, your private life is your own. It's not mine.

Eric: Right.

Roman: So how are things going with jennifer?

[Eric sighs]

[Overlapping chatter]

[Chad murmurs]

[Soft music]

Kayla: Okay. Okay, gotta go.
