Episode #13123 ~ Rafe is thrown by Hope's response to his big question; Lani is hypnotized by Marlena so she can recall memories from the night of Deimos' murder; Sonny makes a confession to Paul; Eric & Nicole start to remember key moments from the night of the party.

Provided By Suzanne

Rafe: [Clears throat] Well. This is not exactly how I pictured this moment.

Hope: I know. Me either.

[Dramatic music]

Nicole: Where did you go?

Eric: I think I did something bad.

Nicole: Hi. I am so sorry I'm late. What's wrong?

Lani: We can wait for Justin. You don't have to say anything without counsel present.

JJ: No, no, no. No, it's okay. I trust you both.

Lani: JJ, I am so sorry I did this to you.

JJ: Lani, you did nothing wrong. You told Raines the truth as you remember it. I had Deimos' blood on my shirt. My DNA was under his fingernails. Look, I'd like to think that I'm incapable of--of murder--

Lani: No, JJ, don't.

Eli: JJ, listen. Lani's right. All right, don't let yourself believe anything until you get all the facts. And if you did kill Deimos, it's self defense.

JJ: What Marlena got out of me under hypnosis, that-- that's probably as much as I'll ever remember about that night.

Lani: Maybe there's another way to get the answers we need.

Sonny: Okay, I should go. Yes. No, I completely understand. Okay. Can you just text me with the updates, please?

Paul: Is everything okay?

Sonny: No. My dad just told me that JJ is being formally charged with the murder of Deimos.

Paul: Damn. That's awful. I mean, you can't really say that we didn't see it coming, though, right?

[Suspenseful music]

Paul: Sonny? You're thinking about your argument with-- with, uh, your uncle Deimos, aren't you?

Sonny: Paul, we agreed that we would not say anything to the police if JJ would go free, okay, but now he's not.

Paul: Sonny--okay, look. You argued with him in the corridor. They found Deimos dead in the living room. You didn't kill him.

Sonny: I know. I mean, well... I--I don't know. But I'm still worried about JJ.

Paul: Look, I'm really sorry about your cousin. JJ's a good guy.

Sonny: He is a good guy, and I don't want him to be railroaded on some circumstantial evidence.

Paul: I don't see how they could do that, though. He wasn't in his right state of mind. Deimos drugged everyone, tormented every single guest at that party.

Sonny: Yes, I--I know.

Paul: So not a single one of us has any clear memory of what happened. I mean, the truth is, any one of us could have killed Deimos.

Hope: Rafe, I--I know... I know I--I said at the party that I couldn't marry you until I had closure, until Deimos paid for what he did to Bo.

Rafe: Mm-hmm. I thought you would have had closure with Deimos' death.

Hope: I thought so too... but I don't. I don't know, maybe it's something more elusive than closure. I don't know. I don't know what it is. I don't.

Rafe: I got to go back to the station.

Hope: No, wait, Rafe. Rafe, wait. No, please. Rafe...wait, wait.

Rafe: What?

Hope: This has nothing to do with love. You know that. Right?

Rafe: Yeah, I know.

Hope: I love you. I do, I... I love you.

Rafe: Love you too.

Hope: [Inhales sharply]

Eric: Nothing. Nothing is wrong. I was just, uh--you know, I'm worried about the center. You know, keeping it up and running. What about you? Any word on holly?

Nicole: Uh... no, not--not since I saw you last. I--I just miss her so much.

Eric: Yeah. You know what, I think it's crazy that judge sent her to foster care. It's just not right.

Nicole: No, it's not. But I'm gonna get her back.

Eric: You know, there's gonna be plenty of work around here to keep you busy. I mean, the party at the martin house--I mean, it was supposed to be a kickoff for the pr campaign for the fund-raising drive.

Nicole: I know, and instead of fielding phone calls for potential patrons, I'm doing damage control. I mean, it was a disaster. That SOB Deimos strikes again. I'm glad he's dead.

[Dramatic music]

Nicole: Oh, god, you're upset. Again. What's wrong?

Eric: No, no, I-- I just remembered something about that night at the party.

Nicole: Something about Deimos?

Eric: No. It was about Daniel.

How are your teeth whiter than mine?

Nicole: When we were drugged up on halo, everything was such a blur. But I do have a vague memory of Daniel. And you said you did too, right?

Eric: Yeah. And then earlier today, I started to remember more. Daniel appeared to us in my room. I told him that I was sorry for what I did. He urged me to forgive myself and to lead a good life.

Nicole: [Sighs] Daniel asked me to forgive you too... as long as you forgive yourself.

Eric: Yeah, that's right.

Nicole: And then what happened?

Eric: [Sighs] You know, I--I don't recall.

Nicole: Oh, god. It was such an insane night. But obviously it had to be the drugs, right? I mean, there's no way Daniel could have been there.

Eric: I don't know.

Nicole: Well, I do. Okay? It was all in our heads. So there's no point in dwelling on it, okay? I just want to forget all about that night.

Brady: Where the hell have you been?

Sonny: Right here, working. And recovering from Deimos' halo cocktail. Oh, that's right, you didn't have the pleasure of that experience, did you?

Brady: I've had plenty, thanks to that man. Sonny, I've been dealing with your mess and cleaning it up this morning.

Paul: I can go...

Sonny: No, no, no. You don't have--you don't have to go, Paul. What mess?

Brady: I've had rolling calls all morning from hr about the massive firings that you made at titan.

Sonny: I refuse to be saddled with Deimos' people.

Brady: All right, did you think for one minute to talk to any of these people individually? No, let me answer that for you. No, you didn't. Okay, but if you did, you would have realized that this--this overreaction was probably a mistake. But hey, who cares, right? 'Cause you're the boss now.

Sonny: That's right. I am the boss.

Brady: Yeah.

Sonny: Thanks to uncle vic.

Brady: I understand that. Listen, boss, you should know that there's a lot of ex-employees out there that are considering filing a lawsuit for termination without cause. And while I'm dealing with lawyers and vetting new hires, company resources are being stretched awfully thin around here.

Sonny: Why are you telling me this?

Brady: Because your office-- no, more importantly, you are not handling it, Sonny. It's not my job to clean up your mess, you understand me?

Sonny: I didn't ask you to, Brady.

Brady: Then handle it. You handle it, okay?

Sonny: I will.

Brady: Thank you.

Sonny: Is that it?

Brady: No, I want to say this to you. Listen. You're technically my boss. I understand that. I'm actually fine with it. You are an upgrade from Deimos in my book. But if you think for one minute that I'm gonna sit by and watch you run this company into the ground under your command, Sonny, you're mistaken. You understand me?

Sonny: Do your job, and I'll do mine.

Marlena: Hope? Are you all right?

Hope: Huh? What? Oh. [Chuckles] Sorry. I was just... just kind of caught up in-- I'm sorry. Please, sit down. I--come on. If you'd like to, if you have time.

Marlena: I'd like to.

Hope: Yeah.

Marlena: What are you so caught up in?

Hope: Well, I... [Sighs, chuckles]

Marlena: Well?

Hope: Rafe, he... proposed to me.

Marlena: All right, is that upsetting to you?

Hope: No, no, I just-- it totally caught me off guard. I just... I didn't say yes. But I didn't say no. I didn't-- I didn't say anything.

Marlena: I see.

Hope: I don't know why. I mean, at that very moment, I couldn't--I couldn't say anything. He said he understood, but... he said to take all the time I wanted, but I'm not sure he really understood. I mean... oh, god, I hope I didn't ruin everything. Marlena, he looked so sad.

Rafe: JJ, what are you doing here? Huh? Is Justin on his way?

JJ: Um, no, I don't need my lawyer right now.

Lani: We're just talking through what we know about the moments leading up to Deimos' murder, trying to figure out who saw what.

Rafe: Uh-huh. And?

Lani: So far, nothing. But that doesn't mean just nothing. I want Marlena to hypnotize me too.

Rafe: Well, Raines wants Marlena to hypnotize everyone who was at the party.

Lani: All right, I'm ready to go.

Eli: No, I don't--I don't think that's such a good idea.

Lani: Why?

Eli: Because you may remember something that could incriminate JJ.

JJ: We need to get to the truth. It's a risk I'm willing to take.

Eli: You're sure?

JJ: Let's do it.

Marlena: Now, why do you think you would ruin anything?

Hope: Because this isn't the first time this week that Rafe has asked me to marry him.

Marlena: Oh...

Hope: The first time he proposed was...

Marlena: Uh-huh?

Hope: [Chuckles] When we were both under the influence of halo. During the martin drugging. Anyway, we were talking, and, um, it just happened. It just... the whole night, it was a blur, but that I definitely remember.

Marlena: Well, but listen, you are both people that believe in commitment. You both believe in marriage.

Hope: I did. I mean, I do. [Sighs] Aiden shook my confidence in everything I believed in. I was so wrong about him, Marlena.

Marlena: Well, honey, he fooled a lot of people.

Hope: Yeah, don't I know that.

Marlena: [Exhales] Are--are you worried that there's something missing in Rafe's character?

Hope: No. God, no. No, of course not, Marlena. It's me. I'm scared. I'm afraid.

Marlena: Well, I think that's normal. I think you just can't let that fear stop you from doing what you want to do.

Hope: I don't want it to.

Marlena: Well, then don't. Don't let it. Just figure out what it is that you--what you need. And what you want. Let that be what guides you.

[Cell phone beeps]

Marlena: I'm sorry. I have to cut this short. I'm so sorry, I need to go.

Hope: No, it's okay.

Marlena: Look, if you, um-- if you want to talk at any point, feel free to give me a call.

Hope: Thank you. I will. Thanks, Marlena.

Brady: I have no problem doing my job, but I expect you to step up and do right by our company.

Sonny: I'll handle the hr issues. In fact, I'll make sure no one bothers you again.

Brady: That would be a good idea.

Paul: Hey, um, you mind taking it easy on Sonny? You know, he's never held a position with so much responsibility, and you know, he's going through a lot.

Brady: I know. I'm aware of that. I know. I know.

Paul: Okay, so then, what was that all about?

Brady: Paul, I'm a little on edge about what happened at the martin house. Okay, I just probably took it out on Sonny a little bit.

Paul: The martin house? You weren't even there.

Brady: No, I wasn't.

Eric: Okay, we don't have to talk about that night anymore.

Nicole: Good. Let's just... get some work done. Actually, uh... it was comforting to see Daniel.

Eric: You know, I felt the same way.

Nicole: Do you really think he would want me to forgive you?

Eric: I don't know. Do you think you ever could?

Nicole: [Exhales]

Hope: Hey, Julie. Hey, hi.

Julie: Oh, darling.

Hope: What a nice surprise.

Julie: So now...

Hope: What?

Julie: You're officially--

Hope: [Stammers]

Julie: Wait. There's supposed to be a ring on that finger.

Hope: Wait a minute. You knew Rafe was proposing?

Julie: Well, of course I did. He was kind enough to tell me he was going to ask you to marry him, so I insisted that he go to Doug to get Doug's permission. Then Doug insisted that he go to victor to get victor's blessing, and victor insisted...

Hope: Oh--

Julie: He go to roman to get roman's blessing.

Hope: No, no, no, you're not serious. Seriously?

Julie: Well, he made it very clear he wanted to be with you. He was willing to go through all the proper steps to do it, god bless him. And after all that, you turned him down?

Hope: I can't believe that you had him jump through all of those hoops. That must have been torture for him.

Julie: He loves you that much.

Hope: And he was willing to take on the whole village?

Julie: He'd take on the whole world, if it meant he could marry you.

[Dramatic music]

Nicole: Eric, to... to forgive you would be...

Eric: Nicole, listen. I'm sorry. It was a stupid thing to ask.

Nicole: The, uh, printer's out of paper.

Eric: Yeah, there's some extra paper in the back office.

[Knocking softly]

William: Excuse me, are you Eric Brady?

Eric: Yes.

William: Yeah, we--we spoke on the phone. I saw your flyer at the shelter. I'm William Richardson.

Eric: Yes, yes. Please come in, have a seat. So, uh, when we spoke on the phone earlier, you said that you'd been in Salem for a couple of months. What brought you here?

William: I heard there's some work here, and... you know, you go where the work is.

Eric: Yes, sir. Down at the docks, right?

William: Yeah. [Clears throat] But that--that didn't work out. It's a shame too, because I like being by the water. It helps with the, um-- the PTSD.

Eric: No, I can understand.

William: But I am--I am-- I'm looking for work elsewhere in town, and I know it's not easy. But I got--I got a-- I got a--I got a pretty good green thumb.

Eric: If you don't mind me asking, sir, what's your current living situation?

William: [Sighs] I've--I've been able to stay at the shelter downtown since I lost the apartment. It's good. It's--it's clean. It's quiet. Mr. Brady, I--I just want to find some work and get on my feet. It's the--it's the simple things that you miss. [Crying] Like--like making your own meal. [Sobs]

Eric: [Softly] Hey. I have this friend. He's down at the VA. Rick--he's a great guy. You know what? He's gonna set you up.

William: Appreciate that.

Eric: You know what, I actually-- I need some landscaping here at the center. I don't know if that would be any interest.

William: Yes, it would. Thank you.

Eric: No, thank you. You know what, today-- coincidentally, it's payday. So I want you to consider this as an advance toward your first paycheck, okay?

William: [Crying]

Eric: And next week, I want you to stop by here, and I'm gonna show you where that equipment is.

William: [Inhales deeply] You got a deal, Mr. Brady. Thank you.

Eric: No, thank you. Thank you for your service to this country.

Nicole: Thank you.

Eric: [Exhales]

Nicole: You know that the Horton center doesn't need landscaping. How are you gonna pay a-- a landscape guy when the center's having trouble staying open?

Eric: I'll figure it out.

Nicole: You're gonna pay him out of your own pocket, aren't you?

Eric: I got it under control.

Nicole: Okay.

Brady: How are you feeling?

Paul: I got checked out. I'm--I'm good. Yeah, Marlena made sure of that.

Brady: I'm glad Marlena's looking out for you, especially while dad's working.

Paul: Yeah, well, you know, she's there for you too, anytime. Especially if you need to talk to anyone about any concerns you have with Sonny and the business.

Brady: Paul, I-- I know that Sonny is under a lot of pressure. Believe me, I get it. It's rough. It's not gonna get any easier for him.

Paul: Yeah, well, Sonny's a good guy. He's gonna do the right thing.

Rafe: Thank you so much for coming last minute.

Marlena: Of course. Lani, are you ready?

Lani: Ready as I'll ever be.

Eli: All right, then we should--we should get out of her way.

Marlena: You know what? I think I'd like you to stay, if that's okay with you, Lani. I'm hoping that things you remember might trigger everybody else's memory about what happened last night.

[Dramatic music]

Lani: It's fine with me.

Marlena: Good. Why don't we get started?

Lani, you're doing just fine. I want to ask you about last night. Where were you?

Lani: At the martin house. It was a party.

Marlena: And what was happening at the party?

Lani: I saw my friends. I shared a toast, and... I saw Deimos Kiriakis.

Marlena: And what happened when you saw Deimos?

Lani: JJ... I saw JJ struggling with Deimos. I tried to help him, but... there was something wrong with me.

Marlena: What did you do next?

Lani: I ran. I--I found Eli in the garage, and I told him that I needed help, but when we tried to leave, the-- the door was locked.

Marlena: What did you do?

Lani: My head was hurting. I was pounding on the door so hard. Eli and I were making so much noise that eventually, the lady with the dog heard us, and she set us free.

Eli: I remember that.

Rafe: Is this jarring anything for you?

Lani: Wait. I remember something else. what else do you remember about last night?

Lani: The dog's name was noodle.

JJ: That's it?

Marlena: That's good. That's just fine. When you got out of the garage, what do you remember? What did you see?

Lani: Uh... I, uh--I don't-- I don't know. I can't remember. [Sighs] Um... I don't understand.

Marlena: Okay, you're doing fine. That's enough for right now. When I count to three, you're gonna be wide awake. You'll feel rested and relaxed. You'll remember everything we talked about. One, two, three. Open your eyes. How do you feel?

Lani: Okay. I remembered the garage and the dog. I can't believe that's all I said.

Rafe: No, no, no, hey. That's good. It's good, okay? Now, let's see if we can find that dog, and that dog's owner, and maybe we can start putting together some of the pieces on this timeline, okay? We'll fill in some of these blanks.

Eli: Yeah. May give us another lead.

Rafe: Yeah.

Lani: I guess so. I hope.

Marlena: I have another appointment. Thank you for your time. Let me know if you need anything else.

Rafe: That was amazing. Thank you. Let me walk you out.

[Door closes]

[Soft music]

Julie: So... what are you gonna do?

Hope: I don't know. Oh, come on. I need more than ten minutes to think about what my-- my next life-changing decision.

Julie: Do you? Really? You love Rafe. He loves you. Honey, that's rare. A good man, so loyal... who's as adoring of your children as he is of you. You get along great. Similar interests.

Hope: It is rare, isn't it?

Julie: Mm-hmm.

Hope: And I don't take it for granted. I don't take him for granted.

Julie: Then what's holding you back from making this commitment?

Hope: What's holding me back? Uh... [Chuckles] Honestly? It's me. It's me. Is marriage the right thing for me?

Julie: Why wouldn't it be?

Hope: I don't want to disappoint him. I've made a lot of bad choices.

Julie: Who hasn't? I can't tell you how many times your father and I went back and forth about marriage, and when we finally got over having doubts about ourselves, we decided to spend the rest of our lives together. Best damn decision we ever made. By far.

Hope: [Chuckles]

Julie: And I know that Bo would want you to have love in your life, darling. The warmth of a family. Rafe gives that to you. As I said, he not only loves you, he loves your children too.

Hope: He does. He really does, doesn't he? He's really so wonderful with-- with Shawn and Ciara.

Julie: I wish...

Hope: What?

Julie: I wish I had one more moment with David. To hold him, to tell him how much I loved him. But you know, life goes by, and... we take people for granted, think, "well, there'll always be a tomorrow." The sad truth is, darling, sometimes there won't be. I think the Romans had it right. You know, the ancient ones? Carpe diem. It means "seize the day." You seize your life, hope. You spend it with the man you really love.

More "doing chores for mom" per roll

Lani: Did you find noodle's owner?

Rafe: Yeah. Matter of fact, I did. Mrs. Garland walks her dog past the martin house every night at approximately 8:15, and when she passed the house, the light was on in the garage, which she found unusual.

Lani: Okay. Anything else?

Rafe: Yeah. So Mrs. Garland took the dog out again at around midnight. Passed the house. The garage light was still on, so she investigated further. She heard noises coming from the garage. Found you and Eli locked inside.

Lani: If Deimos was killed around 9:00 P.M...

JJ: You and Eli are cleared of the murder.

Lani: But I know I saw you and Deimos struggling or fighting.

JJ: Well, you must've done exactly what you remembered. You saw us fighting. You tried to break it up, and when you couldn't, you went for help. You left me alone with Deimos shortly before he died.

Lani: No, we're-- we're missing something here.

JJ: You know what, I--I hope that's true, because things are looking really bad for me.

Paul: Hey, did you get everything situated with hr?

Sonny: For the moment, yes. And I'm really sorry you had to witness that exchange.

Paul: Brady's just worried about you, you know? He--he even felt bad about the way he came down on you.

Sonny: Yeah, I mean, we-- we've butt heads before, but never like that.

Paul: Yeah, well, something's clearly bugging him. He wouldn't tell me what it is, but...

Sonny: Yeah. I know the feeling.

Paul: You do?

Sonny: Paul, I've been so distracted. I haven't been on the top of my game. Brady has every right to call me out.

[Knocking at door]

Brady: Hi.

Nicole: Hey.

Brady: Sorry I'm late. Long day at the office.

Nicole: Oh, no worries. I've been plenty busy too. Hey, listen.

Brady: Hmm?

Nicole: You know what, I just have to get one more thing for Eric, so I'll be right back.

Brady: Okay. So this is the third day you've kept her late.

Eric: She's working through her community service hours.

Brady: I know, I know. I appreciate that. It doesn't mean you get to take advantage of her, though.

Eric: I know what you're making this about. You're still not okay with the fact that Nicole and I woke up in the same bed together.

Brady: You can't really blame me, though, can you, buddy? I mean... you used to be in love with her, right?

Eric: Well, Nicole despises me, if that's any consolation.

Brady: It's not.

[Soft music]

Hope: Hi.

Rafe: Hey.

Hope: Thank you for meeting with me.

Rafe: Sure, anytime.

Hope: I--I just want to make this very clear. I love you. I need you to understand that my hesitation had absolutely nothing at all to do with how I feel about you.

Rafe: I know. I didn't mean to pressure you--

Hope: No, please, just--Rafe. Just let me finish, please. [Chuckles] Sorry, I'm just a little nervous. Um... I love you. I mean, I--I love you. I love you so much. Don't you realize that you have my heart? Rafe... will you... will you marry me? [Laughs]

Rafe: [Laughs]

Hope: [Laughing]

[Soft music]

Hope: [Sobs]

Rafe: Hope Brady, will you marry me?

Hope: [Laughs] Yes!

Both: Yes!

Hope: [Laughing]

Rafe: I love you.

Hope: I love you. [Giggling]

Rafe: Oh, my god!

Hope: [Laughing]

Nicole: Okay. What's going on? You didn't say more than two words on the drive home.

Brady: Nothing. Nothing's going on.

Nicole: Don't do that to me. Okay, I know you're mad about what happened with Eric, and I was gonna tell you the truth. I just didn't want to get into it with Tate there. Okay, it--it wasn't a big deal. The kiss didn't mean anything.

Brady: [Exhales] I know.

Nicole: So do you want to tell me what's really bothering you?

Brady: No, I don't.

Paul: If it isn't work, then what's got you so distracted?

Sonny: I think something happened last night. It's been eating me alive, Paul.

Paul: What?

Sonny: I'm pretty sure I killed Deimos.
