Episode #13054 ~ Chad gives Deimos a taste of his own medicine; Jade is rushed to the hospital; Steve delivers stunning news to Tripp; Abe tries to talk to Eli on Valerie's behalf.

Provided By Suzanne

Kayla: Look to the left.

Jade: I kind of remember walking down the stairs, and then I got dizzy.

Kayla: Look to the right.

Joey: You must've blacked out.

Jade: Yeah, I guess.

Steve: So how's she doing?

Kayla: Well, there's no signs of a concussion, but we need to get her to the hospital.

Jade: No, it's okay. I really don't feel that bad.

Kayla: You know what? This is not up for discussion, jade. You had major surgery, and there could be intern damage.

Joey: Here, I got you.

Kayla: Come on, help her up, Joey.

Steve: [Exhales deeply] Okay.

Tripp: S-s-Steve--Steve, I don't--I don't--I really don't think I should be in the middle of this. You guys--you guys go ahead. I'll find that deli or whatever, get something to eat.

Steve: No. No, no, no. Don't--don't do that. Look, how about you stay right here? I'll get jade checked in, and I need to see about my sister. Then I'm gonna bring some food back for us, okay?

Tripp: Okay.

Steve: All right.

Tripp: Sure.

Steve: Stay here.

Tripp: I still got a lot of questions about my mom, you know.

Steve: I know. I'll answer as many as I can as soon as I get back. Promise.

Valerie: [Sniffling]

Abe: Val?

Valerie: Oh, hi.

Abe: What's wrong?

Valerie: I'm so tired of crying. Just sitting here feeling sorry for myself.

Abe: Eli?

Valerie: He's just so...

Abe: Angry. Yeah, I know.

Valerie: You know, if only he could just understand why I never told him the truth... you know, maybe that would make a difference. The why is important. But he just keeps ignoring my texts and my calls.

Abe: Look, Val... your son hasn't stopped loving you.

Valerie: [Chuckles]

Abe: Just needs some time, that's all. Finding out that his father wasn't who he thought he was--

Valerie: Because I lied to him.

Abe: No, that-- [Stammering] It's just a lot to take in, that's all. He'll come around. You know, meanwhile, I'm here, and I'll do anything I can to help.

Valerie: Thank you, Abe. You know, you're always so sweet. But this is something I have to do on my own. And I will. And first of all, I've decided I'm not moving back to D.C.

Abe: Well, there's some good news.

Valerie: Yeah, I'm not running away from this. If Eli's staying, then I'm staying too, and I'm gonna fight to win him back. Listen, that starts now. I got to go do something. I'll speak to you later, okay? I'll be right back.

Deimos: Too many people have seen your face. They can link you to me. So you're leaving Salem. Understood? Good. Don't come back.

[Dramatic music]

JJ: You recognize him? We've linked him to Abigail and Gabi being kidnapped. At least look at the photo, will you?

Chad: No.

JJ: It sounds more like you're--you're not interested. You do realize, if we nail this guy for multiple kidnapping, attempted murder, he'll flip on Deimos in a heartbeat. The real son of a bitch who hurt you goes away for life. Come on, what's the matter with you? Don't Gabi and Abigail deserve some justice? He almost killed my sister-- your wife-- and you're just gonna sit there and do nothing?

JJ: You know, this war that's been going on with your family, the Hernandez clan, Deimos... all of that can end.

Chad: Really?

JJ: If Deimos goes down, yes. Nobody else ever has to get hurt. What do you say? Help me out?

Chad: Well, you know, I mean, you need evidence to make an arrest.

JJ: Yeah. That's where you come in. Provide some.

Chad: I don't have any. I mean, I'm sure it was Deimos. I mean, I'm positive it was Deimos. But I didn't see him, not even for a second.

JJ: But he was broadcasting to you while you were in the warehouse.

Chad: Yeah.

JJ: That's what Abigail said.

Chad: His voice was distorted. Technically, it could have been anybody. I mean, the only reason I knew it was him was because he was the one who had the motivation, and he was enjoying it too damn much. So let me guess: You don't have--you don't have any evidence that can link him to the crime or the warehouse.

JJ: If I had anything, I wouldn't need your help.

Chad: Well, you know, I'm sorry, but there's-- there's nothing I can do. I don't have anything. And if I did, I-I don't think that I would give it to you.

JJ: Why is that?

Chad: 'Cause what Deimos did was personal. And the response should be very personal.

JJ: What's that supposed to mean? What response? What are you thinking?

Chad: Well, it's just a statement.

JJ: No. It sounds like you're gonna take the law into your own hands. Just so you know, if you do do something that stupid, you won't get a pass from me because you're family. I'll haul you in.

Chad: You said it yourself that Abigail and Gabi deserve justice. Who's gonna give it to them? You don't have any evidence. What are you gonna do? So what does that leave?

[Soft dramatic music]

Your bodyguard's taking a long nap. So's your driver. I got the go-ahead to do you right here. So either you come with me--

Deimos: Who sent you? Dario Hernandez, Chad DiMera? Who?

Steve: Okay, so you'll call me if anything changes with Adrienne, right?

Kayla: You know I will.

Steve: Okay. Well, I guess I'd better head back to the loft, talk to Tripp.

Kayla: Okay.

Steve: Doesn't seem real. If this kid is my son... all those years, I haven't been a part of his life. Sounds like he had a really rough time too. I mean, if I could have been there, maybe I could have made things easier for him.

Kayla: You can't even think that way. You had no way of knowing. Ava knew there was a baby, but she kept it a secret.

Steve: He's already asking a lot of questions about her. He's not gonna like the answers.

Kayla: The main thing...

Steve: I know. Stick to the official story.

Kayla: Gonna be okay. Go.

[Elevator dings]

Valerie: Kayla.

Kayla: Hey, Valerie.

Valerie: Hey. I came here to see if your offer was still on the table. If it is, I would very much like to be a part of your cardiology team.

Kayla: Are you kidding me? Yes, of course! The job is yours if you want it!

Valerie: Thank you.

Kayla: Well--god, no, thank you! This is awesome. Tell me, what changed your mind?

Eli: Hey. We still on for that dinner?

JJ: Oh, uh, yeah. Just--just give me a minute.

Eli: Let me guess: That case isn't going the way you want it to.

JJ: Nope. Got three families at war. Believe it--in Salem?

Eli: I actually think I heard something about that, yeah.

JJ: We've had ships being sunk, kidnappings, people being beaten, poisoned, held hostage-- you name it.

Eli: You want some help from the FBI?

Deimos: [Grunts]

[Footsteps approaching]

[Suspenseful music]

Chad: Ready? It's time.

[Punches landing]

Deimos: [Grunting] [Coughing]

Chad: Come on. Aah! Okay, that's enough.

Deimos: [Groaning]

Chad: Just stay close.

Chad: My worst score yet. Hey, have you-- have you ever--you ever played this video game?

Deimos: [Grunts]

Chad: See, what you do is, you use these arrow keys to contr--

Deimos: [Breathing heavily]

Chad: Oh, that's-- I mean, yeah, of course, you don't play video games. The games that you play involve torturing people and leave them to die.

Deimos: [Spits]

Chad: Oh, that's not nice.

Deimos: [Groans] I have no idea what the hell you're babbling on about.

Chad: All right, well... [Clears throat] You're sitting exactly where I was, handcuffed the exact same way I was. The only difference is, is I had to choose, between two women I love, who lives and who dies. It's a different night, and, you know, there's a different guy in the chair, but see, the most important thing is, is there's a different guy who gets to decide who lives in the end.

Eli: JJ, I'm serious. I'm gonna be assigned to this area, man, and I would like nothing better than to help you break up these wars.

JJ: Well... first you'd have to get that past my commissioner, and that would take some doing, trust me. We're talking the ego the size of Alaska.

Eli: [Chuckles] Gotcha.

JJ: Maybe we should go have that dinner.

Eli: Let's do it.

[Cell phone rings]

JJ: Sorry. Hey, Rafferty, what's up? Keep him in sight. On my way. I'm sorry, Eli, we're gonna have to rain-check. Something's come up on a case I'm working.

Eli: Yeah.

Joey: So... any idea why you blacked out?

Jade: Who knows? So let's talk about this Tripp guy. Weird, right? I mean, the DNA just hauls off and says, "hey, guess what. You have a brother."

Joey: Yeah, it feels strange. When I was young, I used to wonder what it would be like to have a brother. But now...

Jade: You're totally freaked, right? 'Cause you killed his mother? Hey. Total secret. You and me, always.

[Knock at door]

Joey: Mom, what's wrong?

[Dramatic music]

JJ: Yo! Yo, buddy! Hey, I think you dropped something. Is this your wallet?

Rigo: No, it's not mine.

JJ: Oh, that's right, it's mine. Freeze! You're under arrest. Put your hands behind your head.

[Dramatic music]

Chad: I can't even grasp how your mind actually works, which is disturbing. You know, what kind of sick animal would put poison into the veins of two innocent women, two beautiful mothers of young children, knowing that one of them is gonna die and just for--for what? Because he was bested by another man?

Deimos: The war was supposed to be over.

Chad: Excuse me?

Deimos: [Grunts] When the Orwell was destroyed, we all went back to minding our own businesses.

Chad: Huh. I didn't get that memo. Maybe 'cause Gabi and I were too busy recovering from the first time you kidnapped us.

Deimos: Oh, really? Oh, what, what? You think that was a fair trade, huh? Stealing my antiquities business because you were-- you were inconvenienced for a few days?

Chad: What, being held hostage? Almost dying? Yeah. See, it was the almost-dying part that really pisses me off. What, are you gonna play the innocent game? It was only a matter of time before you made another move. You're the scorpion. It's in your nature. So I struck first. Only what I did was business. What you did was very, very personal. You crossed the line going after my wife.

Deimos: No, no, no, no, no. Not just after your wife. And your secret paramour. Let's not forget her, right? And for the record, I learned a long time ago how to deal with young punks like you who think they're top dog. You want real revenge, hmm? You go after someone they love. You cross the line. That's it. That's the way to get them to sit up and pay attention. [Breathing heavily]

Chad: Who do you love, Deimos, more than yourself? Nicole. Yeah, Nicole. But she left you. That must be killing you.

Kayla: Jade, you were given clear instructions about taking your pain medication, right?

Jade: Yeah. One every three or four hours, right?

Kayla: Right. But the blood work shows that you lost consciousness and you fell because your system is loaded with opiates.

Jade: Really?

Kayla: Don't give me that. You were close to an overdose.

Joey: [Scoffs] We talked about this stuff, jade.

Jade: I must have just... forgot. I took one and... took another one.

Kayla: This was way past one extra pill, jade.

Joey: Come on, you can't lie about this--not to us, not to yourself. I mean it, jade. Look at me.

Jade: I can't. I'm sorry.

Joey: Forget "I'm sorry." There's something you're hiding. I can tell. Hey. What is it? Tell me.

Tripp: Are you gonna finish that burger?

Steve: No. Why don't you go for it?

Tripp: I tend to wolf down as much as I can whenever I can. Comes from never having enough when I was little, I guess. Hey, can I ask you a personal question?

Steve: Okay.

Tripp: What happened with that eye patch?

Steve: A woman. Need I say more?

Tripp: Maybe a little.

Steve: Well, uh, I lost my eye in a fight with my best friend over a woman, way back when we were in the merchant marine together.

Tripp: Was she worth it?

Steve: Let me put it this way. Back then, I was a lot younger and a lot dumber. In fact, except for Kayla, most of my choices in women have been bad ones.

Tripp: I'm guessing you think my mom was one of those bad decisions.

[Soft dramatic music]

Steve: Tripp, I promised you that when I found out if you were really my son... I'd give you the whole story about your mother, Ava. I guess now's the time.

Chad: There it is. That hit a nerve. Yeah. See, Nicole realized that-- that you... weren't worth thinking about anymore. Your deep and abiding love meant nothing to her, and off she went. "Bye-bye, Deimos." Now, and--and I understand that's why you're pissed and lashing out against anyone who gets in your way. But tell me something, because I don't know from experience. What's--what's it like to love somebody who doesn't love you? You know, to know that she's-- that she's gone forever, there's no hope of her ever coming back?

Deimos: Shut up. Shut up! Shut up! Shut the hell up!

Chad: There it is.

Abe: Eli! Eli, hey. I've been looking for you.

Eli: I can't begin to think why.

Abe: Eli, I know you're angry. And on one level, you have every right.

Eli: Thank you.

Abe: Can I tell you something? Your mother would move heaven and earth for you. She's probably done that all of your life. So don't you think you at least owe her the courtesy of sitting down and talking about this?

Eli: If I do, I'll let her know.

Abe: Oh, for heaven's sake, Eli... Valerie is so sorry she kept the fact that David banning was your father a secret. Look, she did it because--

Eli: Abe, listen. You already sent your daughter, Lani, to convince me on this score. Now, I'm sure your heart's in the right place. But you need to butt out.

Jade: I guess... I was kind of playing games, hoping...

Kayla: Hoping what?

Jade: I've just been having a lot of pain, and I was hoping it would go away. I really didn't think that one or two extra pills would be all that bad.

Kayla: This is more than just one or two extra pills, jade.

Jade: I'm sorry. [Sighs] I messed up--again. I even spoiled you meeting your brother.

Joey: Oh, that doesn't matter. Look, we'll just--we'll just-- why don't we just set some alarms on your phone? And--and, you know, we'll-- we'll make a list, what pills to take, when to take them. How's that sound?

Jade: That'd be great. But I'm still worried that I'll screw it up. I am so overwhelmed, and... I have nobody to turn to.

Joey: That's not true. I'm right here.

Kayla: You know, jade, I'm gonna keep you overnight for observation and, uh, up your fluids. You need to flush that out of your system.

Jade: Okay. I am pretty sleepy anyway.

Joey: Why don't I, uh-- I'll stay with you till you fall asleep. How's that sound?

[Soft music]

Tripp: Vitali? So my mom came from an Italian family?

Steve: Yeah. Her father was Sicilian mafia. He was pretty high up too.

Tripp: Really? Whoa. How did--how did you meet her?

Steve: Well, we met, um, after Kayla and I had been separated... for quite a few years, matter of fact-- and against my will, I might add.

Tripp: Kayla said you're an agent. Were you, like, trying to infiltrate the mob?

Steve: No, no, nothing like that. As a matter of fact, back then, I was suffering from amnesia. But that's another story for another time. Anyway, Ava and I met, we got together... and her old man was not happy about it. He was a real son of a bitch. So eventually... some things happened, and we weren't together anymore.

Tripp: But then how did--

Steve: How'd you come about? The usual way. But Ava never told me she was pregnant. Maybe she didn't know at the time. But I had no idea you existed till a couple years ago when Ava showed up here and told me about you, that her father had given you up right after you were born.

Tripp: Sure took her long enough to tell you.

Steve: Yeah. Well... Ava wasn't exactly what you'd call stable. Anyway, we went to Indonesia in search of our son. You know the rest. Raymond said you died as a baby. Then he shows up a year later, tells me you're alive. So here we are.

Tripp: Wow. Some story.

Steve: Yeah. Gonna take a little while for you to digest that one, I bet, huh?

Tripp: Well--well, I guess-- I mean, you seem pretty cool with it all. I guess the only question is, how's my mom gonna react when she finds out I'm alive?

Tripp: You know how to get ahold of her, right?

Steve: Uh...

Tripp: Have--I mean, have you--have you already called her, told her about me?

[Cell phone rings]

Steve: Hey, Kayla. What's going on?

Kayla: Um, well, there's actually no new news. Adrienne is still in recovery and sleeping. We're gonna keep jade overnight for observation. But I just wanted to check on you and Tripp and see how it's going.

Steve: Yeah, it's going. Listen, uh, just give me a call if anything changes. I got to go.

Kayla: But-- o-okay.

Tripp: Why--why do I always get the feeling you don't really want to talk about my mother? I mean, I get it. It was a long time ago, and you weren't really married, and then you said that she wasn't all that stable.

Steve: She wasn't.

Tripp: Oh. I get it. She never wanted me, yeah. Still doesn't. That little thing about her dad making her give me up as a kid-- just her spin on things.

Steve: No. That's all true. Tripp... I'm sorry to tell you this. The reason I can't put you in touch with Ava... is because she's dead.

Abe: You know, everyone makes mistakes. I'm sure finding out who your father really was made you do a lot of soul-searching, but if you had to--

Eli: That didn't happen because I found out who my father really was. That happened because I found out who my mother really was. I had absolute trust in her. Hell, she had years, decades to tell me the truth. But she kept telling me lie after lie, and I will be damned if I forgive her for that.

Abe: Eli, I know you're hurting. But Valerie is too. You need each other.

Eli: I can tell that you really care for her, Abe. That's good. So go. Be there for her. Because I can't.

[Dramatic music]

JJ: Guess what this is. A copy of the security cam footage outside club TBD the night you kidnapped my sister. The jury will be able to recognize you leading her out. Lighting's real good. And of course she'll id you in court. Then there's your record. Rigo Albert Rasmussen. Assault, assault and battery, breaking and entering, theft, grand larceny, reckless endangerment. Seven years in Statesville and two years with the feds over in Marion. Nice. The jury will get to hear all about that too. Which means-- let me see how can I put this so you'll understand. How about life in prison? But... wait for it... you could walk. No charges. If--and only if-- you give us your boss, Deimos Kiriakis.

Chad: Well, this has-- this has been really nice for me. It's been very instructive. Thank you. Appreciate your time.

Deimos: [Groaning]

Chad: Well... see, you know, now-- you know, now that I... I understand why you have all of this anger and pain, you know, just boiling up inside of you... I think maybe I'll do the right thing. Did you know that it is humane to put down a sick animal? See, all I would have to do is just-- just pull this trigger just a little bit. And, well, the-- you know, the downside would be that it would be very messy. The upside is, you could get rid of all of that pain. And then the world would be a much better and safer place. I promise you. What do you think? Come on dad!

Valerie: Oh, hi, Abe. Well, come in.

Abe: Thank you.

Valerie: Um, I was just unpacking. Not what you expected, huh?

Abe: [Chuckles] Totally organized, and inside, a bit of a mess.

Abe: Yeah. You know, whatever works. I'm just glad you're staying.

Valerie: Hmm. You seem a bit serious. What's going on?

Abe: [Sighs] I, uh-- I hope you forgive me. I know you wanted to handle things with Eli on your own, and, uh, I couldn't help myself. I spoke to him on my own.

Valerie: Oh. Okay. I mean, no problem. He probably wasn't ready to talk to me anyway. Did you get anywhere with him?

Abe: I'm not sure. Probably not. I... Val, I did learn something.

Valerie: What?

Abe: I liked fighting for you. The more I did it, the better I felt. It's--it's a natural, rewarding thing you do for people you love. And I do... love you. I never thought I'd feel this way again after Lexie.

Valerie: I understand. I never thought I'd love again either. And I have.

[Tender music]

Rigo: You think I'm stupid? Assuming I even made it into court alive, Deimos Kiriakis would find me and turn me into shark food. I only got one word for you, detective: "Lawyer."

JJ: [Laughs] Okay. That's fine. You're going down. And trust me on this: Deimos is going with you.

Chad: What, no-- no witty comment, no final threats? That's disappointing.

Deimos: Nah. You're no killer.

Chad: Not yet. Which is why I'm gonna give you one out. The war ends now. You never hurt anyone else that I love. Actually, you know what? We're just-- let's just call it no more violence, ever. And then I'll let you see another sunset. But this is a yes-or-no question. And you'd better start answering me.

Deimos: All right.

Chad: Hmm?

Deimos: No more violence.

[Gun uncocks]

Chad: That was a very good answer. Thank you, that-- that makes me feel good. [Pats leg] Oh, um... good luck getting out of here.

[Dramatic music]

Deimos: [Grunting]

Joey: Jade's asleep. She's gonna be okay, right?

Kayla: Uh, she should be. The opiates peaked a while ago, and we have a monitor on her. You know, sweetie, I-I can't help myself. I just have to say something. I think you need to be really careful about sending her mixed signals.

Joey: Mom, look what she's been through. I'm all she has, you know? She needs a friend right now, and she knows that's all I am.

Kayla: Does she?

Joey: What's going on with dad? Did he tell Tripp about...

Kayla: I'm not sure. When I called a little while ago, it was like I was interrupting something. I think we're gonna have to just let your dad work this out the best way he can.

Tripp: Oh, my god. I-I finally get a break. I find out who my parents are. And then my--my mom is dead? When--when did this happen?

Steve: [Clears throat] Not long after we went looking for you. About a year ago.

Tripp: Well, I mean, was she sick? Was she in a car wreck or something?

Steve: No. Tripp, your mother is dead... because I killed her.
