Hope: [Chuckles] I know you're standing there.

Rafe: [Laughs]

[Both chuckling] Just enjoying the view.

Hope: Sorry I left early this morning.

Rafe: It's okay.

Hope: I just wanted to suck up every bit of this.

Rafe: Oh, I don't blame ya. But... [Exhales] You can enjoy the sun in your face and the fresh air every day now. You're free.

Hope: For now. It could all go away.

Rafe: Oh, my God, it's not-- not gonna go away. Stefano is alive. You didn't kill him. We proved it.

Hope: Yeah, but I still shot him. I still shot him. And I still have to prove that I didn't escape prison. There's a hearing today at the courthouse... and the DA's gonna decide whether she's filing new charges. For all I know, this could be my last day of freedom.

[Somber music]

André: Oh. Welcome back. [Chuckles]

Chad: How long was I gone?

André: They brought you in yesterday. You were suffering from extreme hypothermia.

Chad: The me-meat locker.

André: Yes. You almost died. But your temperature...is back to normal. The doctor said you're gonna make a full recovery. Can't tell you how relieved I am. Here. Abigail gave me this to bring to you. You know, she's the one who found you. She was with you all night. She wouldn't leave your side. I had to...tell her to go home and take care of Thomas. She's going to be so happy to know that you've awakened. Do you know when she and Dario found you in the locker, you weren't breathing. Abigail saved your life. Yours and Gabi's.

Chad: [Whispers] Gabi.

Eduardo: Hey.

Gabi: Arianna.

Eduardo: No, no, no, she's okay, she's okay. Everything's okay. Hey, lie back. You're okay. You went through something terrible but...but it's over now, okay? Yeah.

Gabi: I was so scared.

Eduardo: Oh, yeah.

Gabi: I thought I was gonna die.

Eduardo: I'm so sorry.

Gabi: But Chad, he helped me. He didn't let me give up. Even when it got really bad.

Eduardo: Yeah?

Gabi: Yeah.

Eduardo: What happened?

Gabi: I don't know. I don't know. I don't know, my...my head, it-- I wasn't thinking clearly. I think my memory got fuzzy and confused, so I don't know.

Eduardo: Well, sometimes it's better not to remember.

[Somber music]

Gabi: Chad... if we die in here... I'm glad I'm dying with you.

Chad: [Whispers] I love you.

[Dramatic musical flourish]

Eric: Dad...told you I was out.

Marlena: He did. Why didn't you call me?

Eric: I was going to. But I heard you were looking after Stefano, and by the time you got back, I was trying... to keep hope safe.

Marlena: I heard about what you did for hope. I'm so proud of you. I'm not surprised. I'm just always so proud of you. Uh, it's, uh...it's time now... for you to come home to people who love you.

Eric: No, mom, I'm not!

Rafe: They are not gonna send you back to that prison. Hell, if they try, there will be a riot in this town. I'm telling you.

Hope: I do appreciate everyone's love and support. Especially yours.

[Soft music]

Thank you for staying with me last night.

Rafe: Always. Whenever. You have no idea how much I've missed being with you.

Hope: I missed it too. And I'm sorry I... fell asleep so early last night.

It's okay, okay? Stop it. When it's meant to be, it'll be. Right?

Hope: Yeah.

Rafe: Yeah. You don't have to worry about stuff like being sent back to that godforsaken place. Right? It'll be worth the wait.

[Gentle music]

Chad: It was Deimos, um... Deimos locked us up and I... can't remember why. It was something about a key.

André: Ah. Yes, well, that's a long story. But the Orwell device is destroyed. It's...gone.

Chad: Can't say that I'm sorry about that.

André: But it's a lot of money.

Chad: [Chuckles] It's nothing but trouble, and I'm glad it's over.

[Dramatic chords]

André: Over? Deimos tried to kill you and I. His men beat Dario half to death, then he threw you and Gabi in that locker to die! This is hardly far from over. Chad-- do you want me to call a nurse?

Chad: No. No. It's just that, um... the war, it's just it's-- it's... it's done. Okay? Our family, we-- we should want more... for our family.

[Dramatic music]

André: Well... there's something you need to know. They found father in Prague.

Chad: Is he in custody?

André: Apparently, he was, but somehow he slipped away.

Chad: To come back here?

André: No. He'd have to face certain legal ramifications. But if you want, we can reach out to him.

Chad: No. No. After everything he's done to us, he's... he may as well be dead. Is hope... is hope free?

André: We'll see. I have a special interest in the hearing that's taking place today.

Chad: André, she's suffered enough.

André: Maybe. But you're right about father. He's gone. We're the DiMera family now... and we need to protect ourselves.

Chad: Which is why we need to end all of this... before anyone else I love gets hurt.

Eduardo: So Dario told me that he and Abby found you and Chad together. I was, uh...glad to hear that you weren't...alone. You love that boy, don't ya?

Gabi: Dad, I don't want to talk about Chad.

Eduardo: Yeah, I hear it and I get it. I get it.

Gabi: Dad, I don't want to talk about it.

Eduardo: I hope you understand...if you were to be with Chad, that would really--

Gabi: I'm not with Chad.

Eduardo: Good. Because it would be a problem, I think, if you were.

Gabi: Listen, I, um... thank you...so much for coming. I think I need to just rest a little bit.

Eduardo: Sure. Okay. I'll be back, all right? With Ari? Would that be good?

Gabi: Yes. Yes, please.

Eduardo: Okay. Get some rest, sweetie.

[Lightly tense music]

Marlena: You can't stay here forever. Darling, you belong in Salem.

Eric: Not now. Mom.

Marlena: Sit with me. Talk to me for a moment.

[Somber piano music]

I know...I know the guilt is crushing, and I know it made you turn on yourself. Don't do that. Let me help you, please.

Eric: It's better this way. I can't hurt anybody.

Marlena: No, you're--you're-- look, you're running, you're hiding. Eric, you have been pardoned. Do you understand that? You have a second chance.

Eric: Mom, I didn't ask for a second chance. I didn't ask to be pardoned. I still belong in... in prison.

[Dramatic notes]

Hope: Justin.

Justin: Hey, guys.

Rafe: Hey.

Justin: Have a seat. Hope, I, uh, I wanna tell you how sorry I am about David.

Hope: Thank you.

Justin: How's Julia holding up?

Hope: Uh, well, saw her this morning. She's putting on a brave front. Justin, it's hard.

Justin: I can imagine. How are you feeling today?

Hope: Anxious, as you can see. I just wanna get this hearing over with.

Justin: Same here.

Rafe: Can I be there?

Justin: No, I'm afraid not. It's closed doors in the judge's chambers. It's just the two of us and the D.A.

Rafe: Right. You don't think there's any chance they're gonna try and send her back to prison, do you?

Justin: I wish I knew. Melinda Trask is as tough as they come. And the news about Stefano being alive is an embarrassment to her and her office, so...she may be looking to save face.

Rafe: Well, who gives a damn if she's embarrassed? She didn't do anything. She's suffered enough.

Hope: Rafe, it's okay.

Justin: Rafe, I couldn't agree more, but unfortunately, it's not my decision. And I suspect that André is not gonna let this go too easily. But I want you to know if the D.A. Does file new charges, we are gonna fight this with everything we've got.

Rafe: How many more people that I care about can the DiMeras hurt?

Justin: Been asking myself that very same question. I know André was responsible for abducting sonny.

Hope: You think something's gonna happen today, don't you? What do you think he has planned?

Rafe: Well, if he tries anything, we nail him for embezzlement and for framing Hattie.

[Dramatic notes]

Hope: Knowing André... he might just take that gamble.

Marlena: What is the point of being...free and sober... if you've built a prison on this farm?

Eric: Mom, prison is where I belong!

Marlena: You make it sound like you murdered Daniel. It was an accident.

Eric: Mom, it was not an accident! I got drunk, and I was behind the wheel. I took a man's life. A boy lost his father.

Marlena: What about your family? What about the people who love you so? What about your father, what about me... your family? Eric, we need you.

Eric: No, you don't.

Marlena: Hope needed you. And the governor's daughter needed you.

Eric: I was at the right place at the right time.

Marlena: Look... I know you feel sick with guilt about this. I know you think it'll never get better, but it will. Let me help you. Please let me help you.

Eric: I'm sorry, mom. I appreciate you coming here today and trying to help me, but it's time for you to go.

Marlena: Well, then I'm sorry too. Because I'm not leaving here without you.

Rafe: Now, what the hell is that? How is okay for André to be here with Trask?

Justin: It's a gray area, and I will definitely mention it to the judge.

[Phone rings]

Justin: Excuse me. I gotta take this call.

Rafe: Okay.

[Beep]

Justin: Yeah.

[Soft music]

Hope: You know what he's doing, right? He's getting her to file the charges--that's what he's doing.

Rafe: Hey...there's nothing I wanna do right now more than go punch him in the face, but we gotta trust Justin, right? He knows what he's doing. He's been great, okay? So let's just have faith. You're gonna beat this. I'm telling you, today is the day--I can feel it, okay?

Justin: Okay. You ready to go?

Rafe: I feel it. I feel it in my gut. Okay?

Hope: Okay. I love you.

Rafe: I love you too. Hey, see you soon. Say it.

Hope: I'll see you soon.

Rafe: Right. I'm telling you; come on.

Hope: Okay, here, just-- that's fine. Bye. See you soon.

[Pensive music]

[Edgy music]

André: I'm so sorry I missed hope.

Rafe: What the hell do you want?

André: You must be feeling... really proud of yourself, having found father in Europe. Getting a chance to play hero with your beloved hope. Now, of course, you see me here...with the district attorney.

Rafe: Yeah. What were you guys talking about?

André: Chitchat.

Rafe: Mm-hmm. Chitchat. A lot of chitchat. But, uh, I will say if you were trying to do something to get hope sent back to prison... you will regret it.

André: Thank you so much for the warning. Should be an interesting hearing today. Who knows how it's going to turn out for hope.

[Edgy music]

Gabi: Just don't stop. Don't stop... please. [Whispers] I love you.

[Uplifting music]

Fitzpatrick: Well, thank you all for being here this morning. The purpose of this hearing is to determine whether or not hope Brady will face additional charges.

Justin: Your honor, have you had an opportunity to examine the evidence that proves Stefano DiMera is, in fact, alive?

Fitzpatrick: I have, and I am convinced. Ms. Trask, any objections?

Trask: No. It does appear that Mr. DiMera still walks the earth. But even though the murder charges against hope Brady have already been dismissed, the fact remains she still shot a man in cold blood. And she escaped prison. Both are felonies.

Justin: Stefano DiMera set her up. We can all see that now, can't we? Harold, his butler, overheard the man plotting to push his enemies into killing him. He taunted hope. He dared her to shoot him. This is a woman who was still grieving from the loss of her husband Bo.

Trask: Your honor, counsel should settle on one defense. Is Mr. DiMera alive, or did he want someone to kill him? Was detective Brady set up, or was she out of her mind with grief?

Justin: Stefano DiMera had a plan. He wanted hope to go to prison. He wanted the world to think that he was dead so he could make an escape.

Trask: What about ms. Brady's escape from prison?

Justin: Your honor, you read hope's statement. Her life was in danger. We have corroboration from guards and inmates alike. One of her only allies was murdered just days earlier. Now, while we don't know exactly who knocked her unconscious and smuggled her out of prison, we do know that she was not part of this plan...nor a willing participant in it.

Fitzpatrick: Ms. Trask, I trust you've taken this all into consideration?

Trask: I have. But in the end, I need to make a decision that best serves the good people of Salem and best serves justice.

Chad: Hi.

Gabi: Hey.

Chad: Feeling okay?

Gabi: Yeah. Better. What about you?

Chad: I'm, uh, I'm good. You look...warmer than the last time I saw you.

Gabi: Yeah. Yeah, I don't--I don't remember being brought here. Do you remember?

Chad: André just said that, uh...Abigail and Dario found us in the meat locker. It sounds like they--they made it just in time.

Gabi: Yeah, yeah, I heard that too. Is Abigail here?

Chad: No, um... she--she had to, uh, go take care of Thomas. She wasn't here when I woke up.

Gabi: Yeah.

Chad: So what do you... do you, uh... do you remember anything?

Gabi: Yeah, I remember some-- some things, not everything. I remember that, um, that Deimos caught us and threw us in the locker. I remember that you got into a fight with the guard. I remember that we argued, then we didn't. But honestly, after that, it just...gets kinda hazy.

Chad: Yeah. Um... André said that the--that the doctor told him we might have some issues with memory... from when the hypothermia set--

Gabi: Yeah. Is it--is it hazy for you too?

Chad: Wh-wh--um, when I woke up, it was just so, you know... blurry. And then I just started to... remember things, like in little flashes.

Gabi: Yeah, like...what kind of flashes?

Chad: Just feeling...cold. Desperate and, you know, like we might not make it. You thought that--you thought that we were gonna die.

Gabi: Yeah, yeah, I do-- I do remember saying that. Is there anything...anything else?

Chad: I remember that... you told me you loved me.

Gabi: Yeah. And I remember you told me you loved me.

[Soft instrumentals]

Gabi: Do you remember... anything that happened after you...you said you loved me?

Chad: We were trying to stay warm. I kissed you.

Gabi: And I kissed you back.

Chad: I know.

Gabi: So... so what--what does that mean, Chad?

Chad: I know that since I remembered kissing you, I can't stop thinking about it.

Rafe: Oh, what the hell?

Gabi: Rafe.

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, it's me. Went by your room to check on you, but the nurse said you'd... slipped out.

Gabi: Yeah, I came to see Chad.

Chad: [Softly] She came to see me...

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, I got that. Thanks. Well, it's good to see you're both feeling better. I need to talk to my sister. Came to see you last night. You were still asleep. I'm glad you're all right.

Gabi: Me too.

[Both chuckle]

Rafe: Mmm! Thank God Dario found you when he did.

Gabi: Yeah. Yeah, thank God. You know, I thought we weren't gonna make it, Rafe.

Rafe: Listen... I can't pretend I didn't just hear what went on in that room.

Gabi: Rafe, I don't wanna talk about it.

Rafe: Gabi, it's a bad idea. He's a married man.

Gabi: I know, I know. I know.

Rafe: So you kissed him?

Gabi: Look, we weren't thinking...clearly, all right? It was just.... yeah, it was confusing, you know?

Rafe: Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. So it was the hypothermia.

Gabi: I don't know what you want me to say, Rafe.

Rafe: Well, do you have feelings for him?

Gabi: Yes, okay? I have feelings for him, yes.

Rafe: You know about the war between the families, right? Everyone's telling me the reason you were in that meat locker is because Deimos Kiriakis put you in there to get back at our father.

Gabi: I don't know. You'd have to ask him, Rafe.

Rafe: Okay, yeah. The thing is, no one's talking. Not dad, not Deimos, not André. They're all pretending like nothing's happened. You know, don't you, who put you in there? You know exactly what's going on.

Gabi: I just--I don't wanna make it worse for anyone.

Rafe: For anyone? Who, specifically, hmm? Dad, the DiMeras? Gabi, it's going to keep happening, and it's gonna get worse unless we do something. People are gonna get hurt. People are gonna get killed.

Justin: Your honor, I would like to point out that ms. Trask had a meeting just this morning with Stefano DiMera's son, André.

[Light, suspenseful music]

Fitzpatrick: Is this true?

Trask: Yes, your honor. Mr. DiMera and I had a very interesting conversation.

Hope: Interesting. Your honor, I'm sorry, but Mr. DiMera hates me, and he hates my family. He would do anything in his power to see me back behind bars.

Fitzpatrick: Ms. Brady, please.

Justin: Hope, let me handle this.

Hope: André got to plead his case--can't I plead mine?

Trask: Are you done? Because I was about to say that Mr. DiMera and his family want to put this entire mess behind them.

Justin: Uh...you're saying that André doesn't want new charges filed?

Trask: He wants to move on. And so do the people. Time served is punishment enough. There will be no more charges against hope Brady.

Fitzpatrick: Ms. Brady, I'm very sorry for what you've gone through. Congratulations. You are free to go home to your family.

Hope: It's over? Really? Oh, my God, it's really over?

[Both laughing]

Hope: Justin. Thank you. Thank you. Question, and be honest...

[Melancholy music]

Marlena: I have heard you preach... about god's forgiveness. He does forgive you, Eric.

Eric: You think just because I used to be a preacher you can throw God in my face? I know God forgives. But others-- forgiveness, peace-- it's not in my reach, ever.

Marlena: Hurts me to hear you talk like that.

Eric: And that's why you need to go home. Back to john, back to your patients...to your life. And I appreciate you coming out to help me, but I made up my mind.

Marlena: Well, maybe if you try one more time, if you try to come home--

Eric: Mom, please, just stop.

[Melancholy music]

When you can tell me Daniel can come home to his family... I'll come home to mine.

Marlena: Okay. Okay. I'll give you that for now. But I'm not done. This is not over. And I will love you... until you love yourself again.

[Edgy music]

Eric: I love you too.

[Tense chords]

Gabi: Hey, listen, I'm-- I'm sorry about that.

Chad: It's cool. He was just worried about you and he has...every right to. You almost died because of what's going on with our families.

Gabi: Well, the reason I'm alive is because of you. I mean, I was ready to give up, and you forced me to believe we were gonna get out of there.

Chad: You shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Gabi: It's not your fault.

Chad: Gabi, about the kiss--

Gabi: You don't-- you don't have to say anything else. Hey, we were...freezing and we were just trying to stay warm. Obviously, we weren't thinking clearly. I mean... if we hadn't even been locked up in the first place, none of this would have happened between us.

Chad: But what--what did happen betw--

Gabi: It's over, Chad. I mean, I...I'm thinking clearly again and... even if I don't remember everything, I do know that it was just a moment. That's all it was. It was a moment and you have to think about your wife a-and your son... and your life, you know?

Chad: So then we just, what, pretend like it didn't happen?

Gabi: I mean, nothing's changed. You're still married to my best friend, and I have to learn to live with that.

Chad: But what we did--

Gabi: What we did, we don't-- we don't have to talk about that...ever again. We were not in our right minds.

Chad: So...

Gabi: Chad, listen, there's just--I mean, there's really not much more to say anyway, you know?

Chad: Gabi. Gabi, wait.

André: Hello, Gabi.

Gabi: Hello.

[Soft music]

Marlena: There you are. Yeah, um... I need to talk to you. Mm-mm. In person. [Softly] It's about Eric.

[Somber music]

Hope: Rafe, what are you doing?

Rafe: Just stop.

Hope: What have you done?

Rafe: This took a lotta prep. Ready?

Hope: Ready.

Rafe: Ah

Hope: Gosh. I love it.

Rafe: You do?

Hope: Thank you. It's great--are you kidding?

Rafe: Well, there's no tent like last time, but I thought it was pretty good for short notice.

Hope: Pretty good? It's more than pretty good. Give yourself a little credit. This is so great--thank you.

Rafe: Okay. Okay, well, tell me, 'cause when you were in prison, you... you know, you talked to me about going to all these places. You wanted to go to Europe and that fancy hotel on Mackinac island and camping...

Hope: Honestly...

Rafe: What do you want to do?

Hope: Honestly, I don't care. I don't care what we do, where we go--I don't care. As long as we're together. And I'm beside you.

Rafe: Oh, my God... that's the perfect answer. Mmm. Hold that.

Hope: Mm-hmm.

Rafe: Hold that thought, because I got you something else you're gonna love.

Hope: More?

Rafe: More.

Hope: There's more?

Rafe: There's more. Sit down.

Hope: What?

Rafe: Don't want you to faint. All right... yep. Graham crackers. Chocolate. Look at all the chocolate. You...

Hope: [Laughing]

Rafe: Marshmallows. That's marshmallows.

Hope: You got me s'mores? I mean... you got me s'mores?

Rafe: I've never seen anyone cry over marshmallows before.

Hope: Oh, Rafe, it's not the... it's the chocolate.

Rafe: Okay. It's the chocolate.

Hope: But it was a really long year.

Rafe: Hey. Welcome to the rest of your life. It's over.

Hope: I love you.

[Gentle music]

Eduardo: Whoop...whoop! I came back like I promised I would, and I brought a friend!

Gabi: Oh, hi! My baby girl! How are you? I'm so happy to see you. Hi. You know that no matter what happens in this world, you... you're everything that I need. I love you! Get over here. Oh, my girl. I'm so happy to see you.

[Both giggle]

Gabi: Hi!

André: I fear I interpreted something between you and Gabi. May I ask you... when you were together in that locker for such a long time in such close quarters... did anything take place between the two of you?

Chad: I'm not talking about this with you.

André: I understand. But let me remind you... what a difficult time you and Abigail had in staying together. You almost lost her. And I just hope you're not putting all of that at risk.

Chad: You don't think I get that? You don't think I get how lucky I am to have Abby back in my life? She--she's my wife...okay? She's the mother of my--of my son.

André: Well, then, there's nothing to worry about.

Chad: Nothing to worry about? [Scoffs] All I've done is attack her since she got back for not being honest with me, a-a-and-- telling her that--that-- that she's gonna have to prove herself to me, making her prove herself to me over and over and over again.

André: I don't understand what you're saying.

Chad: I'm saying I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't do the same. I have to be honest with her. I have to, a-a-and I can't pretend that nothing happened in the meat locker. And I have to tell Abigail everything that happened with Gabi.
