Victor: Well, thanks for making the time.
Deimos: Of course. What can I do for you, brother?
Victor: I'm going to retire.
Deimos: [Chuckles] Right, okay. So are you serious this time?
Victor: I want to spend more time with Maggie. I've been staying home from the office recently, and she seems better already.
Deimos: Hmm.
Victor: She says I frown less and smile more, which seems to please her.
Deimos: Well, I've never seen you smile, but I'll take her word for it. So who's gonna run titan now?
Victor: I have a few ideas.
Deimos: Hmm.
[Cell phone rings]
Deimos: I'm sorry. I have to take this. Yeah? You there? All right, go right from the airport. You call me the minute you get her.
Victor: What was that all about?
Deimos: My child. Turns out, I am the father of Chloe's baby after all.
Victor: Ah, did she admit it? Or did your guy dig up the dirt?
Deimos: Actually, Nicole told me.
[Somber music]
Nicole: I miss you when things are good, too, but, wow, how I miss you when I mess up. You'll especially get this. I... I helped Chloe keep her baby away from Deimos. Sound familiar? But I came clean with Deimos, and I warned Chloe, but now she won't call me back, and Deimos is furious. I'm pretty sure I lost both of them.
Maggie: Sounds like you could use a friend.
Rafe: There's no need to do this, roman. I can do it. I'm telling you, I can sell this solo.
Roman: Rafe, listen to me, okay? Do you really think you're gonna walk in there, after all this time, confess to killing Stefano, and everybody's just gonna buy it? No, they're not. You need backup.
Rafe: And you think it looks better if you're in on it? Now, look, we both know that even if I can sell the self-defense version of this thing, there is no damn excuse for letting anyone else do time. You're just gonna be falling on your sword for no reason.
Roman: You assume that any of this is gonna work. We don't know the evidence that Aiden has against hope.
Rafe: Well, I was there right after the shooting, so I will match my story with the facts.
Roman: Okay, let me ask you this. What makes you think Aiden's gonna go along with this? It takes all his leverage over hope away.
Rafe: Because once I confess, he's got nothing on hope. Besides, I don't think he wants to throw her under the bus, because he has no damn chance with her if she's in jail.
Roman: The man has no chance with hope.
Rafe: In his mind. In his mind. Now, the main thing is, if he can't blackmail her, then hope is free.
Aiden: Why would you say that? This is nothing like what chase did to Ciara.
Hope: Rape, rape. What he did was rape her, and that's exactly what you're doing to me.
Aiden: Hope, I would never--
Hope: Force yourself on me? Aiden, what do you think you're doing?
Aiden: I'm asking for a chance.
Hope: You're not asking. You're not asking anything. You are demanding. You are threatening. You don't care. You just want what you want.
Aiden: No, no, no, no--
Hope: You don't care what I feel.
Aiden: No, that is not true, hope.
Hope: Why isn't it true? Why isn't it? You tell me, why isn't it? You forced me here. Made me put on this dress, made me have lunch with you, made me... what's next? Look at me.
Aiden: What?
Hope: You want to force me to have sex with you?
Aiden: You think I'm capable of doing that? No, no, no. I would never do that to you.
[Somber music]
Maggie: I didn't mean to eavesdrop.
Nicole: It's okay, Maggie. And you're right. I could use a friend.
Maggie: Well, what happened, Nicole?
Nicole: Oh, it was stupid. I... I found out Chloe's baby was Deimos' child. And she begged me not to tell him, and, I mean, I can understand why. But that meant I had to lie to his face, more than once. And now he's livid with me.
Maggie: Well, how did Deimos find out?
Nicole: I told him. I'm a genius, right?
Maggie: You just wanted to make things right.
Nicole: Yeah. But Deimos is-- well, he's got a temper, Maggie.
Maggie: Mm, runs in the family. [Laughs]
Nicole: I just feel terrible. I didn't know how I felt about Deimos. And who am I to decide? It's Chloe's baby.
Maggie: And his.
Nicole: Yeah.
Maggie: How do you feel about Deimos?
Nicole: Really, you want to talk about that? I mean, especially... especially here?
Maggie: My son... would want you to be happy and want you to move on.
Nicole: Oh, God. They're so different, Daniel and Deimos. I do care about Deimos. I do. And the attraction is so intense, it's scary.
Maggie: I know what you mean. I felt the same way about Victor. You know, there were so many times in the beginning when I almost walked away. I mean, the things that he had done and how he was... still, there was this other side... this good man underneath all that nonsense.
Nicole: But is it enough? Sorry, you know what I mean-- on balance.
Maggie: On balance, mm... I'm glad I stuck it out with him, because we've made a very good life together. I love you.
Nicole: I love you.
Victor: Nicole told you?
Deimos: Mm-hmm.
Victor: I would double-check.
Deimos: She wouldn't lie to me.
Victor: Oh.
Deimos: She wouldn't lie about this. Doesn't serve her.
Victor: Oh, that's true. Well, I suppose you have her all figured out. At least it gets Philip off the hook. Now I can get him out of that hot mess. What?
Deimos: You really think Philip didn't know that he wasn't the father of that child? He played along to help Chloe, to stick it to me.
Victor: Well, whatever. It's over.
Deimos: Victor, please don't say anything. I need to find Chloe and bring her back here, and I don't want Philip tipping her off.
Victor: That boy...
Deimos: Yeah, well, you can school him later.
Victor: Well, it's lucky that Nicole found out the truth.
Deimos: She knew all along.
Victor: Oh, that makes sense.
Deimos: Really? Well, not to me.
Victor: Well, apparently you missed some of Nicole's history. Ask her what she was up to in 2012.
Deimos: I know she's made some mistakes, Victor. Haven't we all? I just really thought that what we had was something different.
Victor: Deimos, do yourself a favor--forget about Nicole. Find yourself a woman that's worthy of you. And take your child away from Chloe the minute that it's born.
Rafe: So who do we go to with this?
Roman: I'm gonna say the deputy mayor. I don't want to go up the food chain to the attorney general.
Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, the further away from the prosecutor, the better, right?
Roman: Yep, unfortunately. We will get there.
Rafe: Yeah. Okay, well, then we'll get my confession on record, and then we'll deal with the fallout.
Roman: All right. [Exhales deeply] Mr. Deputy mayor. Roman Brady here. I need to see you right away. Yes. It is urgent.
[Phone beeps]
Aiden: I--this started off badly, okay, on the wrong foot. And I'm sorry that I insisted on lunch. It's just, hope, I wanted you to see--
Hope: See what? What was I supposed to see?
Aiden: We were good together. It's like you've forgotten. And it's not that I blame you, because, quite honestly, if the roles were reversed, I'd probably feel the same way. But--
Hope: But what?
Aiden: Do I need to remind you what a surprise you were to me? We had magic together. And I know I messed it up. But I also know that we can get that back. Now, I'm not gonna give up. I will never stop loving you.
Theo: So I cleaned out the fridge and the freezer and threw out all the rotten food, and then I went to the store and replaced it all so you could have some food when you come home, and everything will be normal.
Abe: Well, thank you, son.
Theo: Yeah, and we didn't have any damage from the looters, but I did double-check all the locks. And, oh, the power's back on too, so I checked all the lights and heat in every room.
Abe: Well, you did a good job, son. Really, really good. Tell me, though, will you stay with hope and Ciara until I get home? There's no need for you to have to stay alone.
Theo: I don't mind.
Abe: It isn't lonely?
Theo: It's okay. I mean, but you're gonna be coming home soon, right?
Abe: Yeah.
Kayla: Good afternoon.
Abe: There's the expert.
Theo: Kayla, dad can come home soon, right?
Kayla: Well, I hope so. But he still has those bullet fragments, and we need to have a specialist take them out.
Abe: You had one.
Kayla: Well, yes, I did. But he wouldn't come during the siege, even if he could have gotten in.
Theo: Well, I mean, but we got to get the fragments out.
Kayla: I know, and I have contacted another specialist, a cardiac surgeon, twice as experienced.
Abe: [Groans softly] Is he willing to travel?
Kayla: She already did. Once she heard who her patient was, she came right away.
Theo: You hear that, dad? You're famous.
Abe: Who is it?
Valerie: An old friend. Hello, Abe. I'd still know you anywhere.
Abe: Valerie grant.
Hope: Do you mean that?
Aiden: Yes. Yes, yes, hope. I love you. And all I want is for us to be happy. That's it.
Hope: Do you want me to be happy?
Aiden: Yes.
Hope: You threatened me. That's the only reason I'm here.
Aiden: I could never put you in prison.
Hope: Aiden... this isn't just about me. I wouldn't be standing here if it were. But you threatened roman and Rafe.
Aiden: It's not always gonna be like this, all right? I just need you to put it all aside.
Hope: Put it aside?
Aiden: Yes, just, hope, will you put it all aside, please? Just put it all aside. Forget about how we got here, and just--
Hope: Wait, wait, wait, wait, you want me to forget? [Scoffs] You want me to forget how we met, what you were hired to do, what you--what you almost did? How you lied to me repeatedly, over and over and over again? And now--wait. You want me to put aside that you're blackmailing me.
Aiden: It doesn't have to--
Hope: You're putting a gun to my head! Please. Aiden. There is no love in this. There will never be any love in this.
Nicole: Deimos. Could you give me a minute?
Deimos: I have nothing to say to you, Nicole.
Nicole: Well, I have something to say to you. Please, if you ever cared about me.
[Soft music]
Nicole: Look... I know you can't understand why I didn't tell you about the baby. And I don't know if I can get you to understand. But I didn't think it was my place to tell you. Look, I-- I basically forced Chloe to tell me, and the only reason she did is because I'm her friend and she figured she could trust me on it. I begged her to tell you, and she wouldn't. And I shouldn't have said a word to you.
Deimos: Then why did you?
Nicole: Because I hate the lie, and I couldn't live with it. And I... I thought Chloe was wrong about you. And the longer we knew each other, the closer we became, and I can see that you would be a really great father. And if Chloe would just give you the chance, she would see that too. And I think I could help you. Deimos, I don't want to lose you. So can we just please figure out a way to get past all this?
[Soft dramatic music]
Hope: Aiden.
Aiden: Yeah?
Hope: What are you thinking?
Aiden: Thinking about a time before I came to Salem, you know, with chase. Just turned the corner with what happened with Meredith. Chase was in school. He was doing well. Started playing baseball, and he was good at it. Gave him confidence, made him happy. First time I'd seen him happy since, you know, what happened to his-- we pulled ourselves out of a pretty dark place, my boy and I. Practice was doing well. Everything was under control. Oh, hope, you should have seen me then. You should have seen me. I wish that's when we met, you know? 'Cause maybe I... this is--this is... this is wrong. This is stupid, Hope. And I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything I caused you and all the pain I caused in making you wear that dress.
Hope: Look at me.
Aiden: I can't.
Hope: Please? It's over.
Aiden: Hope, it was over a long time ago. [Laughs weakly] You got to understand something. I just-- I just wanted to show you how much I loved you. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. What did I show you? Some sick, twisted version. That's not who I am. I don't know who I am. And I'm sorry. And here's the crazy thing. The crazy thing is this, hope. I've known true love. And I'm gonna tell you why I've known that. Because you showed it to me. You showed it to me with your sweet selflessness and your eternal optimism and your inner beauty. And, hope, I got to tell you, I clung on to that. It's the last thing I could hold on to, you know? And I'm sorry. Look, I'm sorry. And you-- you don't have to believe this, but I'm gonna leave you alone from now on. I truly am. I am gonna ask you this. I hope you don't mind that I just take a few memories with me, from that little window of time when things were good, hope. And they were. You know, your sleeping face in the morning or when I got to hold you in my arms or your--your smile. [Laughs] Beautiful smile. You can go.
Rafe [On recording]: Hope. Hey, hope, take it easy. Hey, take it easy. You know what he's got? Nothing, nothing.
Hope [On recording]: Everything I did that night was wrong. I lost it. I snapped. I shot Stefano, and then I dragged you into the cover-up.
Rafe: No, you did not drag me into anything. Now, frankly, we both know that Stefano goaded you into shooting him.
Hope: I'm still guilty of murder.
[Recording clicks off]
Aiden: Watch. That is the only other copy. Wait. I do need to do one last thing. And I would like it if you could come with me.
Roman: Mr. Deputy mayor, thanks for coming so quickly.
Commissioner, I am at your disposal. The way you and your department handled the siege we were under, you did us all proud. And we're gonna show you how much we appreciate it. I'm planning a ceremony next week for-- you needed something?
Roman: Yes. We have a situation.
Sounds serious.
Rafe: It is.
Valerie: Don't you dare count.
Abe: When you left Salem, you went to a hospital in Washington, D.C., Yes?
Valerie: That's right. I did.
Theo: Hi, who are you?
Valerie: I'm Dr. Grant.
Theo: Hi.
Kayla: A brilliant surgeon.
Theo: So can you fix my dad? We have to get some fragments out before he can come home.
Valerie: I heard. I've been looking at your chart and tests, Abe, and I'm ready to do this surgery as soon as you are. But we should go over everything.
Kayla: Theo, why don't we go outside and let the doctor consult with your dad?
Theo: All right, I'm just gonna be outside.
Abe: Thank you, son. I would have known you anywhere too. You are still as beautiful as ever.
Valerie: And you're still so smooth. You broke my heart. You know that.
Abe: [Laughs hoarsely] For all of two minutes.
Valerie: No, months. You just weren't the marrying kind.
Abe: Oh, I would have been a worthless husband back then. Took me years. And then I met Lexie.
Valerie: Is that your wife?
Abe: Yes, she was. Almost--well, more than 20 years. She passed four years ago.
Valerie: Oh, Abraham, I'm so sorry. Is Theo her son?
Abe: He's the light of our lives. He's a good kid. But he's still a kid. I...I can't leave him, Valerie.
Valerie: Don't worry. You don't get to die on my operating table either. So this should work out just fine.
Rafe: I'm sorry. I should have come forward with this sooner. I definitely have not lived up to your kind words about the Salem pd.
Hope: Whoa, whoa, what's going on?
Aiden: It's about me. I'm sure it's about me. I'm resigning as DA.
[Soft music]
Julie: Valerie grant?
Valerie: Hi, Julie.
Julie: Valerie, oh, it's been so long. Look at you. Well, what are you doing here?
Valerie: I was called in to operate on Abe carver.
Julie: Oh, my God, that's wonderful. We've been so concerned ever since he was shot--
Valerie: I need to go prepare for surgery.
Julie: Oh, it's happening right now? Oh, fine, go ahead. I just hope we can get together while you're still here.
Valerie: Sure.
Aiden: I've allowed my personal feelings about detective hope Brady to cloud my judgment. I've created some tension around here and made it very hard to work some cases, so... it is my fault, which is why I'm resigning.
This is not a good time to lose any part of law enforcement.
Aiden: I understand. But I'll make the transition as smooth as possible, and I'll be available from Portland, so...
Portland?
Aiden: Yeah, it's where I'm from. My son is there now. He needs me. Let's talk timing.
Roman: All right, yeah. Let's go to the conference room, look over the caseload, figure out a handoff.
Rafe: Okay. What the hell just happened? What happened to him?
Hope: He finally got it. You heard him. He's leaving town.
Rafe: That's real?
Hope: It is.
Rafe: Oh, my God.
Hope: No more threats hanging over my head and nothing to keep us apart. If you'll still have me back.
Rafe: I'll think about it.
Hope: Okay.
Nicole: Say something, please. Say anything.
Deimos: What did you have going on in 2012?
Nicole: What?
Deimos: It was something Victor said.
Nicole: In 2012, I lost my baby, a little boy.
Deimos: That, I knew.
Nicole: Well, maybe Victor's referring to how determined I was to keep the biological father away from my child. He was a man who was so crazy obsessed about his children. So my friends, they understood why I was so scared for my baby, and they helped me.
Deimos: So you lied to the baby's father?
Nicole: Yes, I did. But I lost my baby, so I'm pretty sure my debt is paid in full. That's why when I slapped you after you said those things to me, it just--
Deimos: No, I didn't mean that, Nicole. But do you really believe that what you did was okay?
Nicole: No. But I could understand at the time why Chloe was hiding the truth from you. Look, I was wrong. And keeping that baby from his father, it probably was part of the reason why I lost him. So let me help you and Chloe, please.
Deimos: Nicole, you don't want me to have a child with someone else.
Nicole: That's not true. You have a child. And I thought that maybe since you already do that it wouldn't-- it wouldn't matter so much that I can't.
Deimos: That never would have-- Nicole, I believed that you were my future. At least that's what I believed.
Nicole: Deimos, it's not too late. The baby's not even born yet. I mean, we can all still work together. That is, if Chloe will still speak to me.
Deimos: Wait a minute. What-- Chloe is angry with you?
Nicole: It doesn't matter. It was worth the risk, Deimos. I didn't want to lose you.
[Cell phone ringing]
Deimos: Yeah?
[Dramatic music]
You find her, damn it. Chloe's missing.
Nicole: You went after her?
Deimos: Of course, I went after her. But now she's gone. She's disappeared. You warned her, didn't you?
[Soft dramatic music]
Kayla: Good job, Doctor.
Valerie: It's not over yet.
Roman: Hey, hey.
Rafe: How'd it go? Huh? Talk to me.
Roman: Aiden is signing his letter of resignation as we speak.
Hope: Oh, thank God.
Rafe: Oh, my God.
Hope: Hey, did you honestly think-- I mean, I can't believe that you--
Rafe: What?
Hope: I can't believe what you two were just about to do. I mean, honestly, did you think I would allow you and you to go to prison for me? Honestly?
Rafe: Oh, really? Did you honestly think we were gonna let you be Aiden's slave to keep us out of jail?
Roman: We were both gonna do as much as we could to protect you. Come on, what, are you kidding me?
Aiden: Roman. The deputy mayor wants to see you.
Roman: Okay, on my way.
Aiden: Look, I know it's not much, but I'm sorry... for all the trouble that I caused both of you. And by the way, technically, we are still married. But I'm gonna have the divorce papers drawn up and send them to you.
Hope: Thank you.
Aiden: Yeah. Yeah.
Rafe: Hey. It's good. It's okay.
Kayla: The surgery went well, very well.
Ciara: Oh, thank God.
Theo: So dad's gonna be okay?
Kayla: Dr. Grant did a wonderful job.
Theo: Well, when can I see him?
Kayla: As soon as Dr. Grant gives the all-clear. He won't be awake anyway.
Theo: No, I don't care. I just want to see him.
Kayla: All right, we can look through here.
[Monitor beeping]
[Sustained beep]
[Dramatic music]
Kayla: Bring that.
Theo: Dad?
Kayla: Okay.
Nicole: Of course, I warned Chloe that I told you. I wanted to prepare her. It's only fair.
Deimos: Fair? Are you serious? What the hell is this, a footrace?
Nicole: Deimos, look at what you're doing. What, are you trying to prove that Chloe was right not to trust you? This is a high-risk pregnancy.
Deimos: Yeah, well, then she shouldn't be running around.
Nicole: Then don't give her a reason to. Think about the baby.
Deimos: This is my child we're talking about here. I'm not gonna let her take my child away from me!
Nicole: Oh, my God. You sound just like EJ, okay? Will you stop?
Deimos: Stop? Oh, you mean just give up on my child? What the hell kind of a father gives up on his own child?
Nicole: Even if it endangers the baby?
Deimos: No, no, the only danger to my child is his lying bitch of a mother and her lying best friend. I'm telling you, if Chloe gets away with this, I will never, ever forgive you.
Hope: Aiden had a recording of me confessing. Nothing you tried could have explained that away.
Rafe: So this is it.
Hope: Yeah. He erased the version on his phone. That's the only copy.
Rafe: This is the only one? You're sure?
Hope: Yeah. I think he was telling the truth. Yes. I sensed it. Something in his voice. Hey, once this is gone, it's over.
