Episode #12927 ~ Chloe confesses her plan to Nicole; Kate, Steve, & Kayla bond over their worry for Joey; Marlena & Claire find themselves in a dangerous situation; Nicole, Chloe, Deimos, & Philip go to the clinic, & the doctor enters with the test results.

Paul: Yeah. He was a step ahead. It's too bad he didn't see the Joey thing coming.

Marlena: Kayla must be out of her mind. I'm surprised that Orpheus let her live.

John: It's all part of the plan, just to terrorize everybody in Salem who ever wronged them.

Marlena: What perfect revenge, huh? Make her watch as her husband is killed and then wonder what's gonna happen to her son who's been kidnapped.

Paul: What do you think their next move is?

John: Not waiting around to find out. I have come up with a plan to keep this family safe. Now ideally, everybody would stay right here until these guys are caught.

Claire: Wait, sorry, we can't leave? For how long?

Marlena: Are you listening?

Claire: No, we have no power! Seriously, if I don't find a place to charge up, I can kiss my music career good-bye.

John: Sweetheart, I love you so much, but if you don't do exactly as I say, you are gonna have to kiss your life good-bye.

[Door opens]

Steve: Oh. You okay, baby?

Kayla: I thought you were Orpheus.

Steve: Hey, hey, hey. Hey. Orpheus is gone.

Kayla: Any sign of Joey?

Steve: No.

Kayla: I should've gone out looking with you.

Steve: Really? And risk ending up back in the hospital again? No.

Kayla: That monster tried to kill you. What's gonna stop him from killing our son?

Steve: Orpheus won't hurt Joe. 'Cause he needs a hostage. Joe's no good to him dead.

Kayla: I thought you were dead. It was like a total nightmare. Everything was in slow motion. I could see every bullet hitting your chest.

Steve: Okay, okay, okay. But I'm fine, all right? And Joe will be too.

Kayla: I want to believe you. But I'm so scared.

Steve: I know, baby. I know. I'm scared too. But I promise you, I am gonna bring our boy home.

Orpheus: It's not every day a kid sees his old man gunned down in front of him. He had it coming. Hey. Keep an eye on him while I'm out. And a word to the wise, kid. Xander here is... he's a little bit unhinged. You never know what's gonna set him off.

Xander: He's right. One false move and you'll be as dead as dear old dad.

Nicole: You cannot be serious. You had Chloe served with a court order for a paternity test?

Deimos: That's right. We're gonna have the results later today.

Nicole: Did you not hear anything I said? I practically begged you over and over not to pressure her about the baby.

Deimos: Nicole, it had to be done.

Nicole: No, it didn't. Especially with all the stress she's already under.

Deimos: We're talking about a paternity test, not water torture.

Nicole: Do you know anything about her medical history? She had leukemia and it totally compromised her immune system. And how did you know about the doctor appointment? What, are you spying on her?

Deimos: The truth?

Nicole: Yes.

Deimos: I had her followed.

Nicole: [Scoffs] Of course you did.

Deimos: I don't want to lie to you.

Nicole: Well, thank you. I swear to God, Deimos, if anything happens to that baby, I will never forgive you.

Philip: I really appreciate you doing this, mom. I won't forget it, neither will Chloe. I love you too.

Chloe: Wait. Did I hear what I think I heard?

Philip: Mom said she'd head over to see Dr. Wright as soon as we hung up.

Chloe: Seriously? I mean, he's gonna let her into the lab to change the test results?

Philip: Like I told you, Dr. Wright owes her. My mom's fundraising talents kept his clinic from being shut down.

Chloe: Oh, my God. I mean, 20 minutes ago, this was impossible. My baby was in danger, now...

Philip: Not anymore. Mom will work her magic with Dr. Wright. And you'll never have to deal with Deimos again.

Kate: Yes, well, it is so good to hear your voice too, Dr. Wright.

Dr. Wright: So to what do I owe this unexpected pleasure?

Kate: There is something, a favor, but I would like to talk about it in person. Could you, um... carve out a few minutes for a favorite socialite?

DR. Wright: Let's see, how about... how 'bout Thursday at 10:30?

Kate: How about now?

Dr. Wright: Well, I-I'm not sure I could do that--

Kate: I'll be right over.

Clyde: Always in a hurry, aren't you? Good to see you again, Kate.

Deimos: I would never do anything to put that baby in harm's way.

Nicole: You already have by stressing the mother.

Deimos: Actually, I was trying to alleviate everyone's stress. I'm hoping that once the truth comes out today, all of us can just calm down.

Nicole: But Chloe told you a million times that Philip is the father.

Deimos: And I've told you just as many times that I believe she's lying. But I'll tell you right now, if that test proves that I am wrong and Philip is actually the baby's father, I will completely back off.

Nicole: Do you even know how to back off?

Deimos: But if I'm right...

Nicole: You'll give Chloe hell.

Deimos: And that baby is mine, I'm gonna make sure that I am the most important person in his or her life.

Nicole: Now you just sound obsessive.

Deimos: Look, I know that you wish that I was the kind of guy that could take Chloe at her word and just move on.

Nicole: Why can't you? If not for Chloe, then do it for me. If I mean as much to you as you say I do, then prove it.

Deimos: Wow. You really do have a thing for grand, selfless gestures, don't you? I'm sorry, sweetie, but... don't expect one from me. I'm not Daniel.

Nicole: I never said you were.

Deimos: Nicole, you mean a great deal to me. So much more than I can ever say. Unfortunately, I'm no hero. And I never will be.

Chloe: So what do you think changed her mind? I mean, earlier today, she acted like I was the worst thing that's ever happened to you. Philip, the woman hates me with a vengeance.

Philip: She hates Deimos too.

Chloe: True, but still--

Philip: Who knows? Maybe she did it for me or even the baby. My mother would not want any kid raised by the likes of Deimos. [Sighs] You still seem worried.

Chloe: How could I not be? Your mom says that this Dr. Wright will come through for her, but what if he doesn't? What if he has a flash of conscience and changes his mind? I'm not gonna feel good about this until I see that those test results say that you are the father of my baby.

Philip: Chloe, listen to me. They will say that. I promise that. You and I are gonna raise this kid together. And do a damn good job of it.

Kate: I don't have time for your games. There's somewhere I have to be and I can't be late.

Clyde: Well, we were in the middle of a conversation recently before we were so rudely interrupted by Chad. I'd like to finish that.

Kate: I'm not interested.

Clyde: Get interested. Fast.

John: So is everyone clear on how to handle things if you run into Orpheus or those other two goons?

Marlena: I am.

Paul: I got it.

John: All right. Honey, how 'bout you?

Claire: Sorry, what? Why is everybody staring at me?

John: Did you hear a word we said?

Claire: Yes. Of course. You were telling us what to do if we ever run into those creeps.

John: Which would be what?

Claire: It's not like I'm in any danger. They don't even know who I am.

Marlena: Have you forgotten they terrorized everybody at Brady's wedding?

Paul: Wake up, Claire.

Marlena: And then they kidnapped Joey.

Claire: I know, I know. I'm sorry. Yeah, he must be totally freaked.

Marlena: You should be totally freaked.

John: Why don't you run the drill by her once again. I'm gonna head to the hospital, see Steve and Kayla. Maybe I can help with the search, okay?

[Cell phone beeps]

Marlena: It's the hospital. They want me to come in and calm some nerves.

John: All right, listen, I don't want you going alone. I'll get you some protection. Whatever you do, don't leave that one here alone. See you, kid. I love you.

Marlena: I love you. Just be careful.

John: I will. Take care.

Steve: You need to get off your feet, baby. Bet you haven't rested since I was gone.

Kayla: No, I didn't rest! Because all I could think about was you and Joey, and so afraid they you were gonna run into Orpheus out there.

Steve: Oh, well, that would have been something since he thinks I'm dead.

Kayla: Well, maybe he should continue to think that you're dead.

Steve: [Groans]

Kayla: What's the matter?

Steve: Nothing, I'm fine.

Kayla: No, no, no, you're--you're in pain.

Steve: No, I'm fine.

Kayla: You know, Steve, you were hit multiple times at close range, and even though you were wearing that vest, you could have internal injuries.

Steve: Don't worry. Okay, don't worry. I am fine.

Kayla: No, I am taking you to the hospital.

Steve: No, you're not taking me anywhere.

Kayla: Yes, I'm sure the emergency power is on there, and we can get you an x-ray.

Steve: I don't need x-rays.

Kayla: And then, you know what, we can check on Dr. Winters, who is covering for me and make sure--

Steve: I will not let you be Orpheus's next target. And besides that, you're in no shape to go anywhere.

Kayla: I am better than you think.

Steve: Listen to me. You're not stepping one foot outside that door. I can't risk losing you again. I won't.

Nicole: Okay, before we even get into Deimos, how are you doing? How's the doctor? How's your headache, blood pressure? How's the baby?

Chloe: Blood pressure's fine. Headaches are better. Baby and I are fine.

Nicole: Yeah. That's what Deimos said. I can't believe he slapped you with a paternity test. I thought you'd be totally wrecked right now.

Chloe: Yeah, well, I'm not thrilled, but... he had a court order. I didn't have a choice.

Nicole: Honey, why did you go to your doctor's appointment at the risk of running into those three wackos?

Chloe: Well, first of all, I was going stir-crazy in that house. Secondly, I already had the doctor's appointment scheduled out of town and I didn't want to cancel it. I mean, I had no idea that Deimos was gonna have me followed.

Nicole: Oh, yeah, when he told me that, I gave him a hard time about you and the baby and everything.

Chloe: Please don't tell me that you slipped up and said anything to him.

Nicole: About him being the father? No. No way. He knows we're close. Figured I was just being an overly protective friend.

Chloe: Well, good. Of course you were. You always have been.

Nicole: Still, I mean, you just seem... really Zen, considering.

Chloe: Well, I'm just... trying to keep my stress levels down.

Nicole: Mm-hmm. I'd still think you'd be a little worried, knowing that the results are coming out.

Chloe: Honestly, I think I'm just gonna be relieved when this whole nightmare is over and done with.

Nicole: Oh, my God. That's why you're so calm.

Chloe: What?

Nicole: You figured out a way. You figured out a way to get those results changed so it looks like Philip is the father, didn't you?

Chloe: [Scoffs] Like I would even know how to do that.

Nicole: Chloe. Maybe not you. You know someone else who could.

Chloe: No, you're wrong.

Nicole: Honey, we've been through so much together. And I know when you're holding back and you are definitely holding back right now. Just tell me.

Chloe: Okay, fine. Yeah, I did it. But I had to. I had to to protect this baby. And if I had to do it again, I would.

Deimos: Well, it looks like someone's in a hurry.

Philip: Well, I don't want to keep the guy you got tailing me waiting.

Deimos: Excuse me?

Philip: And to think, I almost believed that aria you gave about family pulling together.

Deimos: I meant every single word, Philip.

Philip: Family doesn't spy on family.

Deimos: Unless one of them is lying to another about a baby's paternity. Then all bets are off. Besides, Philip, I have a right to know the truth.

Philip: We told you the truth. You just don't want to believe it.

Deimos: But I keep going back to when I first found out that Chloe was pregnant.

Philip: This oughta be good.

Deimos: She told me that she was with you before and after she and I had been together. As if she was covering her bases, like she didn't know the timing herself.

Philip: I think you're reading into this.

Deimos: Am I, really? Because when she took me in after your mother almost killed me, she and I spent a lot of time together, Philip, days and nights, and we became very close.

Philip: I don't really need--

Deimos: She was an emotional wreck. She was lonely. She was vulnerable.

Philip: She was obviously upset because we had a falling out, or, believe me, she would have never been with you at all.

Deimos: But if I was just a rebound, and the two of you were so connected that you got back together right after she'd been with me, then why is it, after all the time that we spent together, all that sharing that we had together, why is it that she didn't mention you once? Didn't bring up the breakup. Hm? Oh, I don't know, maybe because there was nothing to tell, don't you think?

Kate: Let go of me!

Clyde: Still got that fire in your eyes, don't you?

Kate: Clyde, you're hurting me.

Clyde: Oh, katey, you didn't used to be scared of me. There was a time, not so long ago, when you and I were just-- good lord. [Grunts] Sweetheart! Huh. I was gonna let you go. But now I'm gonna have to kill you.

Kate: You don't have to do that. You don't want to do that.

Clyde: No? Well, maybe you're right. I mean, here we are, all alone...

Kate: No, we're not. We're not alone. There's cops all over here because of you and your friends. There's one now. Help! Help! Who's gonna kill who, huh? [Screaming]

Orpheus: Clyde.

Kate: [Panting] What are you waiting for? Do it.

Nicole: Okay, well, is this plan foolproof? Can you pull it off? Do you know someone at the lab?

Chloe: The details don't matter.

Nicole: Yes, they do matter. They matter because if someone finds out those results are switched, you could get in a lot of trouble.

Chloe: Oh, don't you dare judge me when you did something just as bad--Sydney?

Nicole: Okay, look, I'm sorry. I'm not judging. I'm not, but the closer I get to Deimos, the harder it is to lie to him.

Chloe: I thought you were taking things slow.

Nicole: I am, but... I don't know. What if it does get serious?

Chloe: You still can't tell him.

Nicole: This wouldn't be so hard if he wasn't trying to be such a stand-up man for me. That's why he told me he had you followed. And meanwhile, I've been lying to his face ever since I found out he's the father of your baby.

Chloe: Nicole, listen, I know this is hard for you, but once these test results say that Philip is the father of my baby, then Deimos is gonna have to accept that and just move on.

Nicole: Yeah, one can only hope.

Chloe: Can we please stop talking about him? Besides, I've got to get back to Brookville clinic and get those test results.

Nicole: Okay, go. I-I'll get the check.

Nicole: Well, I was kinda hoping you'd come with me.

Nicole: You want me to be there?

Chloe: Yeah, I need all the support I can get right now.

Nicole: Okay. But you'd better be prepared. Even though Deimos promised he would back off if he found out he wasn't the father, he still wants that kid.

Chloe: Well, he's never gonna get it. Never.

Philip: You are grasping at straws.

Deimos: And you're not answering the question.

Philip, fine, you want the scoop on me and Chloe, here it is. Our history in a nutshell. We've basically run the gamut of what two people can be to each other. First loves, best friends, friends with benefits, hell, we were even parents together when we were raising parker.

Deimos: [Chuckles] That's pretty ironic, don't you think? Considering the fact that he wasn't your biological child either.

Philip: No.

Deimos: Right.

Philip: But this child is.

Deimos: I guess time will tell.

Philip: Bottom line, what's past is past. Right now, Chloe and I are truly committed to each other and to being the best possible parents we can be to our child.

Deimos: Unless, of course, this test proves that I am the father of that child.

Philip: It won't.

Deimos: You seem pretty confident, Philip.

Philip: I am. As much as you might want a child to call your own, you won't have claims on this one. No way in hell.

Kayla: Do you think Steve's right? That Orpheus is gonna keep Joey as a hostage so he can negotiate his escape?

John: Makes sense to me.

Steve: Not that it's gonna work.

Kayla: Well, what if he doesn't want to escape? What if he-- what if he's so deranged that all he wants is revenge and he doesn't care if he gets caught? What happens to our son then?

Steve: Listen, calm down. We gotta stay strong.

Kayla: But what about Joey? I'm sure he's just terrified.

Steve: Yeah.

John: Well, you know, what's working in his favor is the benefit of having you two as parents. He has, um... strong survivor skills, no doubt about that.

Kayla: Yeah. Steve has been a rock. But I just can't sit around here and do nothing.

Steve: She wants to go to the hospital and go to work while we look for Joe. I told her it's not safe. And she's in no shape to go anywhere.

John: You know what, Marlena, she's heading to the hospital to check on some patients. I'll give her a call. I'll see if she'll check in with the acting chief of staff and make sure everything's running smoothly, how 'bout that?

Kayla: I'd appreciate that.

John: And Steve's right. There's no need for you to go out there and try to risk anything. I mean, the whole town's on alert. It's only a matter of time before they catch these guys.

Steve: There you go.

Marlena: Claire--

Claire: I have, like, half a bar of power--

Marlena: Put that thing away, please.

Claire: Why couldn't I just stay home? Why'd you let our bodyguard go?

Marlena: You saw that old woman. She was lost. She was terrified. She needed the escort. We're close to the hospital. We'll be just fine, okay?

Claire: Oh, wait, didn't you say that the hospital runs on a generator in case of emergency?

Marlena: That part you heard.

Claire: Mm-hmm.

Marlena: Come on. Let's go through the back.

Kate: Clyde, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I-I'm sorry, I'm am. I should never have dismissed you that way. I should never have done that because you're right. There is fire, there is fire--

Orpheus: Oh, come on. You're not buying this crap, are you?

Clyde: Shut up, will you!

Kate: Look! I know-- I know important people. I know them, all right. So when you get out of here, I can talk to them. When you get caught--

Orpheus: Caught? We're not getting caught. Would you take her out?

Clyde: Oh, shut up.

Marlena: Oh, my God.

Orpheus: Well, well, well.

Marlena: Claire, run!

Orpheus: This is my lucky night.

Clyde: Whoa. Not so fast. So you still think I should kill her?

Orpheus: I don't care what you do with her. I've got all the women I need right here.

We all need a hug in the morning...

Chloe: Look, I know this all sounds crazy especially since, in the beginning, I wasn't even sure I wanted to have this baby.

Nicole: I remember.

Chloe: But since I decided to keep him, I've just... just developed this really strong bond.

Nicole: Did you say him?

Chloe: I just have this gut feeling it's a boy. Nicole, I'm so sorry. I'm sorry you aren't able to have a baby of your own.

Nicole: [Chuckles softly]

Chloe: And I really wish with all my heart that that would have happened for you.

Nicole: Thank you. That really means a lot to me. And I wish I could have had one too, but... hey. I would love to be his Godmommy if you'd let me.

Chloe: I would love that.

Nicole: I know this is all stressful for you, but... just remember how blessed you are.

Chloe: I will.

Nicole: You protect that baby, do whatever you have to do to keep that little life inside of you safe.

Chloe: Okay.

Orpheus: Don't fight it, doc. Consider this a date with destiny. Now who is this lovely creature?

Marlena: I have no idea. I saw her walking alone and asked if she wanted company.

Orpheus: Oh, really? Well, you are a model citizen.

Marlena: My bodyguard is right behind us.

Orpheus: I don't see anyone.

Marlena: Don't you touch her.

Orpheus: Relax, kid. I don't bite.

Kate: Clyde, you don't want to kill me.

Clyde: Don't you tell me what I want.

Kate: Why don't you just put the gun down and we can talk?

Clyde: Oh, we're through talking, sweetheart.

Marlena: Look, she's got nothing to do with the vendetta you feel against my family. So just let her go and keep me.

Orpheus: Oh, your protective instinct is impressive, Marlena. Like a lioness with her cub. Or in this case, her grand-cub.

Kate: Why are you doing this? You don't know what you're doing.

Clyde: Oh... I've thought all about it. This is the only way to end things between us, sweetheart.

Orpheus: You don't think I did my homework? All those years in prison, I studied all the inhabitants of Salem... including your granddaughter, Claire. That's a lovely name for a lovely girl.

Marlena: You stay away from her.

Orpheus: You're in no position to bark orders, Marlena. Come to think of it, forcing you to watch your precious granddaughter shot and killed might be the best revenge--

Marlena: No!

Orpheus: Clyde. Let's finish this.

Marlena: [Screams]

Steve: Well, roman said he thinks me before Orpheus and his cohorts slip up.

Kayla: Let's just hope that Joey doesn't get caught in the crossfire.

Steve: Joe's gonna be fine. Like john said, he's a survivor. Not only that, he's smart as a whip.

Kayla: He's got good instincts.

Steve: That's right. He's got good instincts. He's smart. And he's got a strong will, just like his mama. He'll find his way back to us. I know he will.

[Tense music]

Marlena: Thank God you showed up when you did.

John: A bodyguard that helped that old woman in the park, that was a set-up.

Claire: Yeah, I knew she wasn't for real.

John: So you're both okay? He didn't hurt either one of you?

Marlena: No, no, we're all right. What about you?

John: No bullet holes this time. I just hope that shot I took at Orpheus made contact.

Kate: John, how did you know where to show up and at exactly the right time?

Marlena: John asked me to carry this at all times. It's a panic button. All I've gotta do is press this. He knows exactly where I am.

Kate: Can I get a spare one of those?

John: I'll get you one.

Kate: Okay, uh, look. Thank you so much for saving my life. I will always be grateful.

John: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Where are you going?

Kate: There's something-- that I have to be--

John: No, no, no, I don't think so. I don't want you being alone here, not after what happened. Let me call roman. Just stay right here. Roman, john black. Just had a run-in with Orpheus in the alley behind the hospital. It's where he cornered Marlena, Claire, and Kate.

Marlena: Now do you know why it's so important for you to be careful?

Claire: Mm-hmm, yes, I get it.

John: Yeah, Weston's with them and they're on the run. I think they're heading west on spruce street. Now I'm not sure, but I think Orpheus might have caught a bullet here. I don't see any blood. He might need some medical attention. They're on foot. They can't get far. Roman's sending an officer here. He's gonna take your statement and Kate's sta-- where the hell's Kate?

Marlena: She was right here.

John: What's the matter with that woman? Didn't she hear me? Josh, don't you have friends coming over?

Kayla: If our son is a survivor, it's because of you.

Steve: I don't know about that. I wasn't here for the important years of his life. I failed him in so many ways.

Kayla: Whatever you didn't do for him when he was younger, you more than made up for that when you were willing to take the rap so he didn't have to go to prison. And you single-handedly pulled him out of that cult. You're his hero. You know... I see so much of you in him. His fearlessness, his determination. Your big heart. And our son has seen and experienced more things than any kid his age should ever have to go through.

Steve: And he survived it.

Kayla: I have faith in our son. Just like I have faith in you.

Xander: What are you gawking at?

Orpheus: Get me something to stop this bleeding.

Xander: What the hell happened?

Clyde: John black shot him.

Orpheus: It's just a graze, but the blood won't stop.

Clyde: Can't believe you're dumb enough to give him an opening.

Orpheus: The gun jammed, you idiot! Wouldn't have happened at all if you haven't been playing games with that Kate woman and finished her off like I told you. Ah! What are you doing?

Xander: To stop the bleeding!

Clyde: He's in pain, you dolt.

Orpheus: Not half as much pain as the rest of our enemies are gonna be when I get done with them. I started with your old man. What do you say we finish off the Johnson bloodline with you?

Kate: Sorry I'm late. "Meet me in the exam room." Okay, well, I'm here. Where are you, Dr. Wright?

Steve: I'm glad to hear john got there in time. Hopefully that shot he took at Orpheus hit the target. All right. Thanks for calling, Paul.

Kayla: Orpheus was shot?

Steve: They're hoping. He and Weston cornered Claire, Marlena, and Kate in an alley. John got there before anyone was hurt.

Kayla: It was only Orpheus and Weston?

Steve: Joe wasn't there. Neither was Xander. I think he must be guarding Joe. So listen, I'm gonna head out, check a few places that I haven't gone yet. And I'll call as soon as I know anything.

Kayla: Are you sure you don't want me to just... I could cover one end of the town and you do the other--

Steve: No, no, no, I'm positive. Besides, we need to ration gas right now. The pumps still aren't working. We don't know when the power's coming back on.

Kayla: All right, I'll rest, but if I feel better, when you come back, we'll save gas because then I can ride along with you.

Steve: We'll see about that. But right now, I'm gonna walk out the door, you're gonna lock it behind me. You don't open it for anyone. Not even that guard outside. Okay?

Kayla: No one except you or Joey.

Steve: Good.

Kayla: I got it.

Steve: Call me if you--

Kayla: I call you, right. I got it.

Steve: Kiss me. I love you, baby.

Kayla: Be careful.

Steve: We're all gonna be back together real soon. It's gonna be all right.

Orpheus: So what do you say, little patch? You ready to go meet your old man in the great beyond?

Joey: Yeah, I don't think that's gonna happen.

Orpheus: Oh, you don't think so, huh?

Joey: What happens after you kill me, tough guy? You got no leverage. I thought you were the smart one.

Orpheus: You smug little brat.

Joey: You know it's true.

Orpheus: Get this kid out of my sight before I shoot his eye out and leave him a half blind fool like his old man.

Joey: Shut up about my dad.

Orpheus: Oh, yeah. You don't like that, do you? That's not such a bad idea. Maybe I'll call Xander. When he's done cleaning out that pharmacy, I'll have him stop by the Johnson house and rip that patch off the cold, dead-- [Chuckles] Wow.
