Abe: Yes...Detective?

Rafe: Oh, excuse me... Mr. Mayor. Can you please tell me how Aiden Jennings is the new DA?

Aiden: Justin! Hey... I hoped I'd catch you at the office.

Justin: The office.

Aiden: Yeah.

Justin: Yes. Which is now... your office. I heard you'd been appointed the new DA.

Aiden: Justin! Hey... I hoped I'd catch you at the office.

Justin: The office.

Aiden: Yeah.

Justin: Yes. Which is now... your office. I heard you'd been appointed the new DA.

Aiden: Are you not going to congratulate me?

Justin: Hmm.

Aiden: Guess not. Well, at least can you bring me up to speed on--

Justin: Oh, you don't need my help...that's clear.

Aiden: Appreciate the confidence, but I could always use some--

Justin: Inside information? Like when, where I might be meeting with an informant? You overheard my conversation with roman... at the club, right? And you got to dozer before I did. That's how you leveraged me out, forced me out.

Aiden: No, no, no, no, no. I did not force you out.

Justin: You took my job.

Aiden: Taking a job is not a crime. Stealing evidence... that is a crime.

[Dramatic chords]

Deimos: Dr. Hochman's been in there a long time with Maggie.

Nicole: Do you think that's a bad sign?

Deimos: I don't know.

Nicole: Well, they said she came through the surgery like a trouper.

Deimos: Well, that's different from it being a success.

Nicole: You think?

Deimos: All I know is that if Maggie still can't walk after all this... my brother will never forgive me.

Caroline: Any word?

Sonny: Yeah, the surgery went very well. The doctor's optimistic, so we should know something soon.

Caroline: Oh, that's good.

Hochman: Okay. The anesthesia should be wearing off by now. You feel alert?

Maggie: Wide awake.

Hochman: All right, then. Let's give this a try. Let me know when you feel something.

[Soft music]

Maggie: [Gasps] Oh! My foot...

Hochman: You feel that?

Maggie: Yes. And my ankle. And my leg, close to my knee.

Hochman: That's every area.

Victor: She passed?

Hochman: Oh, yes, with flying colors. Mrs. Kiriakis, with the right physical therapy, I have every reason to believe that you will walk again.

[Victor and Maggie laugh]

Maggie: Thank you. Oh, thank you, thank you!

[Suspenseful music]

Theresa: Hello? Housekeeping. Hello? Would you like your bed turned down?

Brady: Are you sure this is Lauren Cartwright's room?

John: It's what the front desk said. Also had to shell out 100 bucks to get that much out of him.

Brady: Maybe she checked out.

John: Not according to the records.

Brady: I'm gonna find the manager, because we need to get in there.

Rafe: It makes no sense, Abe. Roman couldn't even explain it to me last night.

Roman: Not for me to explain.

Abe: And not for you to question.

Rafe: Okay. So Justin's out...huh? How'd this even happen?

Abe: He was acting DA, not an elected official.

Rafe: Oh, oh. So you just replaced him... with a criminal! I mean, how the hell are you two just standing there like this makes sense? Justin is replaced out of nowhere with Aiden Jennings? Why?

Roman: Justin chose to resign...for personal reasons.

Rafe: Right.

Justin: You must have really wanted my job badly. Now, the question is why? The pay is nothing compared to what you'd make in private practice.

Aiden: Well, I wanna give back to the community.

Justin: [Laughs] Oh! That's good. But do you honestly think that anyone is gonna forget what you tried to do to hope? I mean, whatever job you may have...no one is gonna forget who you are.

Aiden: [Chuckles] Who I am.

Justin: Mm-hmm.

Aiden: Okay, let me bring you up to speed, okay? In any other other town, you'd be going to jail tonight, counselor. So, really, you should be thanking me...because if I brought that evidence public, your friends, uh-- they couldn't have protected you.

Justin: Mm-hmm. And you wouldn't be where you are now.

Aiden: I just played along, now that I understand the rules. Friends cover for friends, family takes care of family, and in Salem...if they have the right connections... people get away with murder.

Justin: So that's why you wanted my job. You wanna get away with murder.

[Tense music]

[Maggie laughing]

Sonny: I like the sound of that.

Maggie: Thank you, thank you.

[Laughter]

Caroline: Well!

Victor: Someone is about to get on her feet.

Maggie: And dance!

Sonny: This is great!

Caroline: Well, you are a tough one!

Maggie: Aw...

Caroline: And you're just a big softie.

Victor: I beg your pardon. I've been a rock through this whole thing.

Sonny: Right...right.

Victor: When can we take her home?

Hochman: Well, we need to keep her here to stabilize and evaluate her for physical therapy.

Maggie: I can do that at home...can't I?

Hochman: At some point, yes, yes, but let's start in the hospital where we can monitor you. Let's not rush.

Victor: Well, she'll stay put if that's what you say.

Maggie: I'm ready to get off my backside now.

Hochman: We'll have you up and on your feet tomorrow. How's that?

Nicole: You're gonna walk?

Maggie: I am.

Nicole: Oh, I'm so happy for you!

[Maggie laughing]

Nicole: This is the best news of the year.

Maggie: It's about time... huh?

Nicole: Thank you.

Victor: And it'll only get better from here.

Sonny: Well, there's a miracle.

Victor: Deimos, join us.

Deimos: No, it's all right. I don't want to intrude.

Victor: You're the reason we're here. We're all grateful.

[Soft music]

Theresa: What is taking so long?

John: They just don't hand over those card keys. Probably gonna cost another 100 bucks.

Theresa: You think she's in there, faking us out? Hey, did you get it?

Brady: Turns out the manager had kids, so he helped.

John: Let me.

[Suspenseful music]

Theresa: Tate? Sweetheart? Oh! Oh--where is he?

Brady: Damn it!

John: Nothing in here.

Theresa: Oh, no, this cannot be happening.

John: No suitcase. It looks like she grabbed Tate and skipped out on the bill.

Theresa: No! Well, he's gone, he's--

John: Hey, we're getting closer now. Found him once, we'll find him again.

Theresa: This is all my fault, the whole thing.

Brady: No, it's not. No, it's not, it's not your fault--none of this is your fault: You understand me?

Theresa: We're never gonna see him again. [Sobs]

[Baby cries]

Theresa: Tate!

Brady: Oh, my God!

Theresa: Hi! Oh, hi!

Brady: Hey, hey, hi, hi. Hey, buddy. How you doing? It's okay.

[Both murmuring, sniffling]

Oh, my goodness.

[Tate crying]

Theresa: My baby! Uch.

Brady: It's okay... daddy's here, huh?

John: Hey, squirt, look at you! Look at you. Hi!

Theresa: Mommy's got you. Shh, shh, shh, shh.

Brady: Gonna be okay.

Theresa: Ohh...

Hochman: I put in the consult with physical therapy. They'll be here shortly to evaluate you. I will be back tomorrow. In the meantime, you rest. Tomorrow you'll get to work.

Maggie: I can't thank you enough, doctor.

Victor: I owe you my life. If you ever need anything...

Hochman: I'm happy I could help.

Maggie: I can't run over there just yet. I just wanna thank you. And tell you that in spite of the fact that... you were the one who caused my paralysis...I'm grateful, very grateful, that you convinced Dr. Hochman to come out of retirement and do my surgery.

Caroline: I don't get it. You are grateful to Deimos?

Victor: I offered Dr. Hochman a fortune to do the surgery, and he said no. Deimos persuaded him.

Caroline: How?

Sonny: Yeah. That must be an incredible story.

Deimos: I was on a mission. I knew I had a lot to make up for. I couldn't think of a better peace offering. I mean, what matters more than the people you love, right?

Victor: Nothing.

Deimos: So I would like to wipe the slate clean with my brother, with my family. Start new.

Victor: We can. Now we can.

John: All right. Cops are checking for prints. We can go back in.

Theresa: Look at him. He's sleeping so peacefully now. 'Cause you know you have your family back, don't you, sweet little angel?

Brady: Of course he knows. He knows.

Theresa: He must have been so scared. You know, you weren't as scared as your daddy and I were. Because you are the most important thing in our whole lives. [Sniffles] And, just so you know, Tate, never again. Never again is anyone ever gonna be able to take you away from me and your daddy.

Brady: No, that means be prepared, 'cause your mother's gonna be hovering over you even more than usual, just all the time.

Theresa: Yeah, well, I'm pretty sure your daddy's gonna be hovering too.

Brady: Oh, I think you're right about that. And I don't think there was doubt in his mind that we would find him.

Theresa: No. Course not. 'Cause you know how precious you are to us, don't you, sweet little angel? You know that we would never, ever, ever give up looking for you. [Sobs]

Brady: All right.

Theresa: You know what? Since you came into our life, Tate, everything got so much better...and sweeter... and more meaningful. [Laughs, sniffles] And not just because you brought your daddy and I together. Which was quite the challenge at that point.

Brady: Yeah, I think challenge is a...is a good word for that.

Theresa: [Laughs] [Sniffles] 'Cause you taught me how to finally really, really love someone... more than I ever thought I could. No, your daddy and I could not imagine living life without you.

[Brady murmurs, Theresa laughs]

Theresa: Now we don't have to, do we?

Brady: No.

Theresa: Oh...my sweet baby boy. Thank God we found you.

Theresa: I don't know--he looks fine; there's no scratches or bruises on him or anything.

Brady: We should get him checked out by the doctor just in case.

Theresa: Then we'll get him home as soon as possible. Would you like that? Wanna be home with cotton candy--

John: I just wish the little squirt could tell us all about his big adventure.

Brady: I wanna know why Lauren left him behind here.

John: Room service hasn't been touched--she had to leave in a hurry. Someone had to tip her off we were coming.

Theresa: Yeah, but only a handful of people knew that.

[Tate cries]

John: Hey, kids, we may have caught ourselves a break here. Only one number.

Brady: Let me, let me. I gotta hear whoever's behind this.

[Tate crying]

[Phone ringing]

Victor: Victor Kiriakis.

[Dramatic chords]

Brady: Son of a bitch!

[Tate wailing]

Rafe: Okay. Okay, so Justin decided to quit. But what I don't get is how you go from that to appointing a criminal to taking his place!

Abe: Aiden Jennings isn't a criminal.

Rafe: He was about to kill hope on their wedding night.

Roman: But he didn't--didn't even attempt it, so legally--

Rafe: So how close to committing a murder do you have to get, huh? This is the DA's job that we are talking about here. The bar has to be higher than "we can't prove it."

Abe: Rafe... I'm giving you room because I know you're upset, but...

Rafe: Have you thought about this? Hmm? Have you? I mean, you do realize now that Aiden Jennings is gonna be the one bringing us cases. Now, have you thought about it?

Abe: Rafe, Rafe, Rafe, Rafe, Rafe...nobody took this move lightly. You need to back off from this.

Rafe: So out of all the attorneys in Salem, Aiden Jennings is the one.

Abe: That's right.

Roman: Rafe, it's done.

Rafe: He's a degenerate gambler. He was the one involved with the DiMeras that he was gonna kill hope and collect the damn insurance money!

Abe: Look, if-- if you have proof of any of that... you bring it to me. I will re-evaluate. Otherwise...I suggest you get back to work.

Rafe: Do you have anything to say to me?

Roman: Not really. You heard the mayor.

Rafe: Okay. I don't know what's going on here... but this reeks.

Roman: Oh, yes, it does. But unfortunately, at least for now...that's where it has to be.

Aiden: [Chuckles] Aw, you know what I love?

Justin: Hmm?

Aiden: You're caught red-handed, on camera, no less, committing the crime that got you booted out of your job... yet you can stand here and talk to me like I'm the criminal.

Justin: You are. You just haven't been caught... yet.

Aiden: [Chuckles] Oh... Justin. Is that a threat? Ah--let me guess. It's a promise.

Justin: Just a comment. Good luck.

[Tense music]

Maggie: You didn't have to rush everyone out.

Victor: Well, your therapist is gonna be here soon, and I wanted a little time for us. Been lugging this around for a while.

Maggie: Really? You bought me a present and you held out? [Laughs]

[Soft music]

Victor: You wore red shoes all those years ago when you got on your feet again. I thought it was only appropriate.

Maggie: [Sniffles] How long have you had them?

Victor: Since I promised you to take you dancing again.

Maggie: [Laughs] I'm gonna hold you to that!

Victor: I'm ready whenever you are.

Maggie: You'll let me teach you a mambo?

Victor: As long as you don't try and dip me, I'm up for anything.

Maggie: I'm so lucky.

Victor: Well... better let you get some rest. Your therapist is gonna be here soon.

Maggie: [Laughs] Wait a minute. What, uh, what about that phone call?

Victor: What call?

Maggie: The one that... you looked so rattled about.

Victor: Oh...wrong number. It was nothing.

[Edgy music]

Roman: How's hope?

Rafe: Oh, she's great. Great. You know...really looking forward to working with Aiden.

Roman: Rafe, you know I can minimize how much either one of you has to deal with him.

Rafe: How? Hmm? We have to make cases with the DA, we have to testify, we have to prep. All hope wanted to do was forget about what happened the past two years, what happened to her. And now this.

Aiden: Ah, Commander Brady! Believe you have some files for me.

Roman: What do you want?

Aiden: Everything you got. Anything that's ready to be sent up for charges. As the new DA I wanna hit the ground running tomorrow.

Theresa: Hey, look at this, my little angel. We're home. You're home. With mommy. And daddy's on his way, and then we are going to take you to the doctor to make sure that you're okay. Oh, you know what? Mommy is never gonna let you go again. I am not gonna let any of the bad people get you. And then you and daddy and I, we're gonna have the life that we always wanted. Yeah. Mm-hmm. That's a promise.

[Tate fussing]

Theresa: Hey...

Nicole: So, is this what you expected?

Maggie: Um...I'm prepared to do whatever the physical therapist thinks is best. But six days a week?

Sonny: No pain, no gain.

Caroline: At least the doctors are gonna let you go home soon.

Victor: Well, maybe too soon.

Maggie: I'm...first I'm just gonna be lying on my back, so I might as well be at home.

Victor: I'll have a gym set up in the townhouse. Once physical therapy starts, I don't want you traveling.

Maggie: Well, I'm gonna be so happy to travel. Especially if I can walk... [Laughs] From the door to the car.

Nicole: Amen!

Victor: I still don't like it.

Nicole: Oh, hush. She's not gonna do anything that isn't safe.

Maggie: I'm gonna be fine. I know it's just baby steps, but I'm thrilled...[Laughs] With baby steps. Oh...

Victor: All right, that's it. Everybody out. She has to close her eyes now.

Deimos: I'm so happy it went well.

Maggie: Thank you.

Nicole: Brady... what are you doing here?

Brady: We're here to arrest Victor...for conspiracy to kidnap my son.

[Maggie gasps]

Brady: When it's time to move to S...

Maggie: No, Brady!

Victor: This is nonsense. You come in here the day of Maggie's surgery with these baseless--

John: We've got some proof, vic.

Brady: Maggie, I'm sorry this is happening now, I really am. We got a call from Kayla on the way back--I'm so glad that everything went well.

Sonny: You're so happy for her that you bust in here and accuse her husband of a crime?

Victor: What is your so-called proof?

John: We found Tate.

Nicole: You did?

Deimos: Is he all right?

Brady: He--he's fine. He's all right. We had a doctor check him out, and he's at home with his mother right now.

Victor: I still don't see what this has to do with me.

Brady: That woman who took Tate who we tracked down to a hotel in Indianapolis--she disappeared. But she left two things behind, granddad. One was my son.

John: And the other was this. And once we lift this for fingerprints, I'm sure it's gonna lead us right to your associate.

Victor: I have no associate.

Brady: Then why was your number programmed into the phone? The only one, I might add.

Victor: How the hell should I know?

Brady: I called you! You answered the phone.

Maggie: That was you?

Victor: Don't you see this whole thing is a setup? I'm the fall guy here. You found that dummy corporation, that Chopin group. If she's involved with anyone, it's them.

John: We're still working that lead.

Brady: Well, we know it's gonna lead to you.

Victor: Or summer! She skipped town for good. What do you make of that?

Brady: No, stop it.

Victor: You don't want to listen to reason.

Brady: You had your chance, granddad, and you took it, to torture my wife and to get rid of summer in one move, and you took it.

Victor: I can't believe you think I'd stoop that low.

Brady: You've been stooping low all year! You've been mean, you've been irrational, you've been vindictive. Do I like this? No. Does it break my heart? Yes. But I think you did it. I know you did it.

Officer: Sir, I'm gonna have to take you down to the station now. 'Scuse me. Victor Kiriakis, you're under arrest for conspiracy and kidnapping. You have the right to remain silent.

Victor: I'm gonna prove you all wrong--you'll see.

Maggie: He could be right. I mean, they--they could have done it. I mean, it's possible that someone else is framing him--

Brady: Maggie, Maggie! I'm sorry. I'm sorry it happened here. I'm sorry it happened now. I'm so glad you're well. I really am...but I'm sorry.

Maggie: I'm happy that Tate is home and safe.

Brady: Thank you. I gotta go home.

John: Yeah, go on. I'll go over to the station.

Sonny: This is your doing, isn't it?

Deimos: What?

Sonny: You set up my uncle Vic?

Deimos: Why the hell would you think that? All I want now is peace between us. Everything I've done since I came back was to make amends.

Sonny: What a perfect cover that would be for screwing over my uncle vic.

Deimos: I should go. Thank you for letting me share in this day with you. It means so much to me to know that you're able to walk again.

Aiden: Detective, what can I do for ya?

Rafe: Really?

Aiden: Well, I assume, like me, you're here to do a job, so...

Rafe: I don't know how you did this.

Aiden: Well, then I'll tell you. I answered the call when asked, that's all.

Rafe: So, uh...if you think now that you're working with hope, that you're close to her, that you're gonna have a chance...it's not gonna happen.

Aiden: Thank you for the heads up.

Rafe: I don't know how you got rid of Justin, but I'll find that out.

Justin: Hey, Sonny, what's going on? Uh, how's Maggie doing?

Sonny: She's fine. Her surgery was a success.

Justin: So she'll make a full recovery.

Sonny: Yeah. That's what the doctor said.

Justin: Fantastic news.

Sonny: Dad, uncle Vic's been arrested.

Justin: What?

Sonny: Yes. I was on my way to your office right now. I didn't think you knew, or you wouldn't let that happen.

Justin: Whoa, whoa, slow down, just back up. Tell me what happened.

Sonny: Uncle Vic was arrested for Tate's kidnapping.

Justin: That's crazy.

Sonny: He's being framed. By Deimos.

Deimos: My brother just got arrested for kidnapping. I wanna know everything--the charges, the evidence. But listen to me and listen carefully--be discreet.

[Phone beeps]

[Tense music]

I was in shock when my dentist was explaining unreal. Today of all days. This is supposed to be one of the happiest days of my life!

Caroline: Well, it still is, 'cause you're gonna walk again, and that--that's huge, hmm?

Maggie: Yeah. So I'll walk and see my husband in jail. Brady can't possibly believe that Victor could do this. He just couldn't! I mean, you know-- Caroline.

Caroline: I'm going to let you get some rest.

Maggie: Not yet! Whatever it is...say it.

Caroline: I'm sorry... but I'm afraid it was Victor.

Maggie: [Gasps] No!

Sonny: So even though the woman brought Tate to Indianapolis, the crime happened here...so you can decide not to prosecute.

Justin: Yeah, I can't do that.

Sonny: No? Well, can you at least hold off so we can get evidence to prove that uncle Vic was set up?

Justin: It's, uh, it's not up to me anymore.

Sonny: What do you mean, it's not up to you? You're the DA.

Justin: Nope. Not anymore. I resigned last night.

Sonny: What? Why?

Justin: I did something really stupid trying to help Victor, and it blew up in my face. When Victor and Deimos were at war, I tried to get close to him to get information for Victor. So in order to prove my loyalty, Deimos gave me a test. There was a crook in lockup who worked for Deimos. I agreed to make the evidence against him disappear. [Laughs] So anyway, turns out I'm not a very good criminal. Someone saw the whole thing and made a tape of it.

Sonny: Oh, my God.

Justin: So...I'm out. And I'm lucky, actually, lucky that I...I only lost my job.

Sonny: Dad, how did you not get arrested?

Justin: Because he was a low level guy. I mean, there was no harm except for the fact that...he walked. Abe understood that Deimos was a threat to our family. The bottom line: I broke the law, and I had to resign.

Sonny: Well, is this gonna go public? Do we need to find a good lawyer? Are they gonna pull uncle Vic into this, too; are they gonna go after him?

Justin: No, no, no, no, no. No publicity, no trial. As bad as this would be for our family, it would be worse for the Salem pd and the prosecutor's office. And I kept Victor's name out of it, said I came up with the whole thing. But Abe agreed to let me resign quietly, for personal reasons.

Sonny: This is all because of Deimos.

Justin: I'm the one who did it.

Sonny: To get to Deimos.

Justin: Yeah. Too bad that truce didn't start, uh, sooner.

Sonny: Dad, there is no truce. If I'm right, this was all a smoke screen so Deimos could set uncle Vic up with that kidnapping.

Justin: You sound awfully sure.

Sonny: Because uncle Vic wouldn't kidnap Tate.

Brady: It's like nothing ever happened.

Theresa: I know. I hope he slept like that every night. [Chuckles] Took everything in me to stop hugging him and let the poor guy lie down and sleep.

[Both chuckle]

Brady: I'm sure he didn't mind that.

Theresa: [Sniffles] So how'd it go?

Brady: Wasn't pretty. Um...I mean, it's not like I expected my grandfather to confess or anything, but he's under arrest.

Theresa: I still can't believe it. I mean, I've had a lot of people hate me in life, but... I just can't--I just can't understand how he would stoop that low to do something like this.

Brady: Theresa, he has been harsh ever since Bo died. I mean, he disowned Philip. He threw me outta the business. I mean, this wasn't just about getting back at you. He got to implicate summer in this whole thing.

Theresa: Yeah, well, who, face it, was involved. Though she did help us in the end, so...

Brady: Yeah, she did.

Theresa: I'm so glad she's gone. I mean, you know, maybe we can get back to normal?

Brady: Back to normal. What is normal for us, anyway?

Theresa: I'm pretty sure it's not you staring at me nonstop.

Brady: I can't help it. I just wanna...I don't wanna take my eyes off you right now. I don't wanna take my eyes off him. We're together again. I'm just glad we're together again.

Deimos: You look upset.

Nicole: Do you remember what you said to me? In this living room just yesterday.

Deimos: Every word.

Nicole: You said you wouldn't lie to me. Did you mean that?

Deimos: Absolutely.

Nicole: So if I ask you a question, you'll answer me honestly, not what you think I wanna hear.

Deimos: Go ahead. Ask me. Ask me anything.

[Suspenseful music]

Aiden: Okay, look... I know this isn't easy for you. But we all need to find a way to work together. I'm here to do a job. That is all.

Rafe: Mm-hmm.

Abe: You wanted to see us.

Aiden: Ah, yes, yes, Abe Carver...thank you so much for coming by. Look, I just wanted to let you know that I'm gonna be reviewing all of Justin's cases, okay? Open and closed.

Abe: You know, I think you'll have enough to keep yourself busy with the open cases.

Aiden: No doubt, no doubt. But I am very thorough, and I wanna make sure I don't inherit any problems.

Roman: You won't. Justin was a good prosecutor.

Aiden: Sure. But even the best of us can let things slip through the cracks. I think it's best to get some fresh eyes on everything. Different perspective. Good day.

Justin: Some welcome home, isn't it?

Sonny: I'm glad to be here. You still practice law?

Justin: Yes. And I'll represent Victor.

Sonny: And I'll figure out a way to prove Deimos is behind this.

Justin: Don't worry, son. I'm on it.

Maggie: How can you think Victor is guilty?

Caroline: I saw it. When we were in the room where little Tate was first held, there was a phone. I picked up the phone...and I saw Victor in your house on the other end of the phone. And when I got Victor alone, I told him. He completely avoided it and then he got very upset and he said that I should keep this to myself. I just felt that...he wasn't being straight with me then and...now it...

[Somber music]

Victor: Can I have a word with my friend before I get booked?

One minute.

Victor: Come to make sure the door gets locked?

John: And I have to give a statement to roman.

Victor: You've known me for decades. You know what I'm capable of when somebody comes after my family.

John: Yeah, I do.

Victor: You also know I'd never do anything to hurt my family, especially a child.
