Episode #12426 ~ EJ & Sami come together after months of estrangement; Brady believes Kristen's drug to save John was a lie; Marlena prepares to say goodbye to John.
Provided By Suzanne
Sami: [Sighs]
EJ: Whoa! [Chuckles]
[Cell phone ringing]
Abigail: You want to tell me what's going on?
Ben: You followed me?
Abigail: Yeah, I followed you, Ben. Where did you get all that money from?
Ben: Maybe you should ask your friend Chad.
Abigail: [Scoffs]
Kristen: You're here. Finally. My baby bro. Hi.
Chad: A lot has changed since the last time I saw you.
Kristen: Some things haven't changed enough, but they will.
Chad: [Chuckles]
Theresa: Eric, hey.
Eric: Hey, Theresa. I'm in a hurry.
Theresa: To get to the hospital, right? To see John?
Eric: Yeah. And shouldn't you be there? I mean, at work?
Theresa: Yeah, I'll get there. It's just that you seem really anxious. Has there been a change in John's condition? I mean, that drug that Kristen got for him--it isn't working, is it?
Daniel: Hey. Wow. What--
Marlena: Oh, it's just a sprain. It's a step outside the doctor's lounge. Are these John's latest test results?
Brady: Is there any indication that he's waking up?
Daniel: No, not yet.
Brady: Okay, but that's okay, though. You said he might not rally immediately, right? We got to be patient.
Daniel: Well, yeah, I know-- I know what I said, but I want to be honest with both of you. Something should've happened by now.
Marlena: Meaning?
Brady: [Stammers] What, are you saying if he doesn't wake up soon...
Daniel: Time is, uh... is running out.
[Cell phone ringing]
Sami: I mean, it could be the kids, you know?
EJ: Yeah, could be. You should check.
[Ringing continues]
Sami: It's work.
EJ: Okay, take it.
Sami: Business can wait.
EJ: All right.
Chad: [Chuckles]
Kristen: Broke my heart when you had to leave Salem, especially when you were so brave in saving EJ's life.
Chad: It was my only option.
Kristen: Well, I'm sure if you had to do it over again, you'd make different choices, wouldn't you?
Chad: I wish I wouldn't have lied to Abigail the way I did. But that was a long time ago. I'm just glad to be back at the mansion, which begs the question--
Kristen: No. I have to stay in this horrible hotel. I'm not welcome at the mansion, probably never will be again.
Chad: Legal issues.
Kristen: You know, that reminds me. I'm sure you've heard of some of the things I've done. I want you to know that my motives were always aboveboard--
Chad: All lies, right?
Kristen: Well, let's just say that the people of Salem have it in for me, all the DiMeras. Talk about stating the obvious, right? Still, you know what, Chad? When I think about it, sometimes the unfairness of it all just really hits me.
Chad: Well, I know Daniel Jonas. I dated his daughter. And he seems like a pretty--
Kristen: "Seems"... that's the operative word.
Chad: And Eric Brady. I've always heard he was a pretty good person.
Kristen: Is there a point to this? Or are you just passive-aggressively telling me that I'm a wretched human being because all these fantastic people can't stand me?
Chad: Would you stop? Of course that is not what I'm saying. I'm worried about you. All these people you say have it in for you, they seem to be--
Kristen: Honorable? They're noble, right? Everybody respects them, so I'm the scum of the earth.
Chad: Did I say that?
Kristen: No, but you know what? That's what you were thinking. And you're wrong. Look, you don't have to worry about me, okay? I'm fine. I really am. I'm perfectly fine.
Eric: As far as I know, the drug that Kristen arranged for John--it hasn't delivered on its promise yet. But we're all praying it will.
Theresa: Well, I heard that you promised to let Kristen off the hook for all of the horrible things she did to you if that drug does work and John wakes up from his coma. That's a high price tag, no? I mean, seriously, Eric. Do you think a guy like John black would do the same thing for you? I don't think so.
Eric: What?
Theresa: [Sighs] I'm sorry. [Scoffs] I guess it's no secret that John and I didn't really like each other.
Eric: Theresa, he's not dead.
Theresa: Fine. We don't like each other. Look... maybe he'll wake up, and he'll have some personality change-- a nicer one. I've been researching trauma cases--just stuff that was lying around at the hospital. I read that sometimes brain injuries involving extended comatose periods really change a person. I mean, wouldn't it be better if John woke up and he didn't remember all those awful things he said to Brady, how he treated his son? I mean, if he didn't remember anything about that horrible night at all?
Eric: I wouldn't count on that, Theresa.
Daniel: As you know, there's been no change in John's brain activity since we administered the drug. The window for its efficacy could be closing.
Brady: Yeah, but--but, I mean, it's an experimental drug, though, Daniel. I mean, how can you possibly know how long it'll take or a window closing?
Daniel: But that's the thing, Brady. It may have already closed.
Marlena: You mean that all of this may have been for nothing? The first hug is from you.
Chad: Look... I hope things work out just the way you want them to, Kristen.
Kristen: Thank you. I'm sorry I got a little crazy. Things have been so stressful for me lately, Chad.
Chad: Yeah, I get it. No worries.
Kristen: So enough about me. What about you? I know that it's no accident that your arrival here coincides with the publication of will Horton's tell-all article about our dear brother EJ and his affair with Abigail Deveraux.
Abigail: I'm not gonna ask Chad anything, because I don't believe what he said about you. I know you would never steal, especially from Sonny. And I know you. I know that you would never sell drugs.
Ben: Thank you, I guess.
Abigail: But I did see you give that money to Jordan, and it must've been thousands of dollars, so I'm just trying to understand what's going on here, Ben.
Ben: [Sighs] It wasn't my money.
Abigail: Okay, then whose was it? Was it Jordan's?
Eric: You seem distressed, Theresa.
Theresa: Distressed? Well, yeah. Who wouldn't be? I mean, it's a really sad situation, Eric.
Eric: I think the reason you're distressed and sad is that if John wakes up, then Brady and his father's relationship will be reconciled. I mean, Brady--he wants to make amends with his father, and that threatens you.
Theresa: No! I--what?
Eric: If John and Brady's relationship can come together again, where does that leave you? I mean, since much of that final argument that night was about you marrying Brady in Las Vegas.
Theresa: Yeah. Of course. Look... you're right about everything. It's just that--Eric, if John wakes up, he's gonna do everything he can to make me look bad to Brady.
Eric: I find that interesting that you're making that your main concern when a man's life is on the line.
Theresa: That's not my main concern, Eric.
Eric: I have a lot at stake if that drug works, Theresa. I will not be able to go after Kristen for ruining my life. To save John's life... it's a small price to pay.
Theresa: Yeah. Look, I totally agree. I mean, what kind of horrible, terrible person wouldn't want John to wake up, wouldn't want the drug to work? [Sighs] God, Eric, why are you looking at me like that?
Eric: Because no matter how much you protest, I-I think you-- Theresa, you don't want John to wake up. And now I finally understand. Now I get it.
Brady: Listen, thank you. I know you did everything you could to help my dad.
Daniel: I'm not giving up just yet.
Brady: But you think it's unlikely that he's gonna come out of this, right?
Daniel: [Sighs]
Brady: Right, okay. Listen, I got to-- I got to get out of here. I got to clear my head.
Daniel: Okay, Brady, Brady. I understand that you're angry and that you want someone to pay for what happened to your father. But confronting Kristen is not gonna bring him back, and it's not gonna help you get your life back.
Chad: That article-- it's not why I'm back.
Kristen: Oh, Chad, please. You've got to be kidding me. EJ humiliated you in the most horrible way possible. And you know what I've learned? EJ's become very adept at doing that kind of thing--turning his back on his family.
Chad: I don't think he sees it that way.
Kristen: I don't give a crap how he sees it. He slept with the woman you love, and he turned his back on me. He threw us both under the bus because he's an arrogant, self-centered son of a bitch, and I'm holding him accountable.
EJ: [Laughing]
Theresa: I know what you're thinking.
Eric: If you were the cause of the argument between Brady and John and they were to turn on you because of it, well, that's something you have to live with. Sometimes we have to face the consequences of our own actions.
[Cell phone rings]
Eric: It's my mother. Listen, I have to get to the hospital.
Theresa: Hey, is it about John? Is something happening?
Eric: Drug's not working yet. I have to get going.
Theresa: [Laughs] Oh, yes. John isn't waking up. And I didn't even have to do anything to make sure that he wouldn't or explain it at all if he did. [Sighs] Eric, maybe you're right. Maybe there is a God. Now Brady needs me.
Brady: I'm not off to confront Kristen. I'm not off to find Theresa. The only person I want to see right now is Eric.
Daniel: Okay. All right.
Brady: He gave up a lot-- almost everything to help save my dad. And you too, man. I mean, you guys here at the hospital--you're the real heroes, actually. Even if my dad doesn't wake up, I'm appreciative.
Daniel: I'll go back to the mansion and wait with you while you track down Eric, okay? Parker left a toy there. I got to pick it up. Or I could get ahold of Eric--
Brady: Daniel, Daniel, not necessary. Something I want to do myself, okay? It's all good.
Daniel: All right. Well, I'm here if you need me. All right?
Brady: Thank you.
Daniel: All right.
Brady: See you, man.
Chad: If I'd only known then...
Kristen: Known what?
Chad: That you have this, like, sixth sense about stuff.
Kristen: Hmm.
Chad: You always did give me great advice.
Kristen: Oh. Fantastic. You never took it.
Chad: I wish I would've.
Kristen: Well, now that you've realized I am indeed infallible, I'm gonna give you some advice/wisdom/eh, call it whatever you want that you are gonna take, all right?
Chad: Let's hear it.
Kristen: Okay, well, you came back to Salem to settle some scores.
Chad: Uh, did I say that?
Kristen: Told you to shut up. You need to listen to me. Listen very hard. Commit it to memory. When people hurt you, you have to make them pay. But you can hurt them even worse, and the way to do that is to make sure that they don't see you coming.
Chad: Keep your friends close.
Kristen: Mm-hmm. And your enemies closer.
Ben: I won't lie to you, Abigail, but it's not my place to explain anything more about that money. I really hope you can accept that. Look, things were great with us, honestly, almost perfect. Now Chad DiMera comes to Salem for not even, what, exactly a day, and he already has you doubting me?
Abigail: Ben, it's not about Chad. Chad didn't put that money in your pocket.
Ben: [Scoffs]
Abigail: I'm sorry. If you--if you can't talk about it, I'm sure that you have good reason, and I do trust you, Ben.
Ben: Thank you.
Abigail: But I have to ask you this... if we were walking down the street together and an envelope full of $100 bills just fell out of my bag, wouldn't you be curious where I got it?
EJ: Samantha.
Sami: What?
EJ: Shh, stop, hey. Hey, I want to see your eyes.
Sami: [Breathing heavily]
EJ: I love you.
Sami: Okay, you need to-- I need you to stop. [Sighs]
EJ: Tell me.
Sami: It's what I've always been scared of with us.
EJ: Samantha jean Brady, you are scared of nothing and no one.
Sami: I'm scared that if I don't hold some piece of myself back... that if I ever lost you, I wouldn't be able to survive.
EJ: When it comes to matters of the heart, you are the bravest person that I have ever met. When I think of all the years that I hated watching you wear your heart on your sleeve for all of those heartless bastards...
Sami: [Laughs]
EJ: I gave you my soul. I won't ask for it back. I don't have any need for it without you. But the rest... is up to you.
Ben: You're right. I would be curious. And I'm sorry that I got so defensive with you about it. It's just that I...
Abigail: It's okay. Let's just drop it.
Ben: Yeah.
Abigail: Oh, I saw your sister before. She seemed upset.
Ben: Did you ask her what was wrong?
Abigail: Yeah, she was kind of vague, but she did mention seeing someone that she used to know. I'm guessing I should probably not tell her that I saw you give her the money, right?
Ben: Well, I can't speak for her, but I highly doubt that she'd want to talk about it.
Abigail: Yeah.
Ben: Look, I'm sorry, and I hate that I can't tell you everything. I don't want there to be any secrets between us.
Abigail: I know. And, really, you were just protecting your sister, and I respect that, Ben. I do. I would do the same thing for JJ. Do you really think that things between us before were, um... close to perfect?
Ben: Oh, as close as it gets.
[Cell phone ringing]
Abigail: Oh.
Ben: [Sighs] My break is over. I have to get back to work.
Abigail: That's okay. I'll remember right where we left off.
Ben: Okay, good.
Abigail: [Chuckles]
Ben: So then we can pick this up when my shift ends?
Abigail: Yeah.
Ben: Yeah?
Abigail: Yeah.
Eric: I'm so sorry.
Daniel: Yeah. Yeah, you know that stuffed bunny you've been missing? I found him. Yep. Yep, and he's gonna be waiting for you when you get home. I miss you too, buddy. We're gonna spend a lot of time together. I'm gonna see you soon, okay? I love you, Parker. [Laughs] Okay. All right, sweetheart. Bye. [Sighs] Now, why am I not surprised?
Theresa: Nice bunny. But I have no idea what you mean.
Daniel: Sure you do. We both know why you're here. You heard about John.
Marlena: I want to thank you for being here. I want to thank you for being willing... to sacrifice the justice you deserved to help John.
Eric: I just wish that--
Marlena: You know what? You gave me hope... even for a little while. And that was such a gift. [Sighs] If anything good comes out of this... it will be the fact that you get the justice you deserve... for everything Kristen did to you.
Kristen: Hi.
Brady: Bitch. It didn't work, Kristen. It didn't work!
Ben: Just the way you like it.
Abigail: Oh, thank you so much.
Ben: You're welcome.
Chad: [Clears throat] Your money's no good here.
Sami: [Sighs] I want you.
EJ: Say it.
Sami: [Chuckles]
EJ: Samantha. I know you trust me with your body. But I want your heart and your soul. I will never give you a reason to cut me out. And I will devote my life to being worthy of you. But I want... I need the words. This is our time.
Marlena: We have been through so much... over so many years. I can't... I can't believe... that now... I have to find a way to say good-bye to you.
Kristen: Please, just calm down.
Brady: You have a lot of nerve to tell me to calm down.
Kristen: The drug hasn't been given enough time yet.
Brady: It's been plenty. There's been plenty of time, and it's not working. I just came from my father's bedside. We're losing him.
Kristen: You don't know that.
Brady: All the results from this drug say that it's worthless. Your drug is worthless... just like you. My father's dying, and there's nothing anybody can do.
Kristen: Brady, stop. Just listen to me, please.
Brady: I don't want to listen to you!
Kristen: Please. The doctors don't know what they're doing. They're in over their heads. They've never had to deal with this kind of treatment before. Please, you just-- you can't give up.
Brady: Why? Because you tell me I shouldn't give up? It's over! It's not working! It's done!
Kristen: I gave you hope, and despite all the lies between us, it's not false hope. I'm telling you, it isn't. I did everything I could, Brady, to bring your father back to you because--because I love you. I love you, Brady. I love you, and I want to take that guilt that you have, that soul-wrenching guilt that you're feeling--I want to take it away from you. I want to give you a chance to learn the truth about what really happened that night.
Brady: What truth do you want to tell me about that night, Kristen?
Theresa: Of course I heard about John. I do work at the hospital, don't I? Look, I know that that drug that Kristen cooked up was a total bust.
Daniel: Mm, so you came here to comfort Brady. You think that's what he needs right now, a little comfort from you?
Theresa: Is he here? What?
Daniel: Uh, Brady is not here.
Theresa: Okay, well, then I'm gonna go find him. You know, his father's life basically just ended. I think I should be there to comfort him.
Daniel: Oh, of course you do. Yeah. But isn't it gonna be a little hard to hide the relief?
Theresa: Relief about what?
Daniel: Relief that John is not going to wake up and tell the world what you did to him that night. Come on gang. Work those thighs. find you both here. I owe you an apology.
Ben: You don't owe me anything.
Chad: Look, can you just hear me out for a minute, please? I was out of my mind when I got back into town. Will's article kind of sent me over the edge, and I took out a lot of my anger on you.
Abigail: I already told you that I understand why you would be upset with me... how what happened must have hurt you badly.
Chad: It did. It did. And I thought that lashing out at you would help. And it didn't. And it was wrong... because I know that you never meant to hurt me, Abby.
Sami: "Our time"?
EJ: Now and forever.
Sami: Is that really the best you can come up with? I mean, "our time"? EJ, I was with you until the end, but, I mean, I just felt like... you know, you can do better than that.
EJ: [Stammers]
Sami: [Shrieking] No! No! No! Please!
[Both laughing]
Sami: I'm yours. I'm yours, EJ, no take-backs, finally and forever-- my heart, my soul, whatever you want.
EJ: I want it all. I want you.
Sami: I love you.
Brady: What could a pathological liar like you know about the truth, anyway?
Kristen: I know you're a good person. I know you're a good man, and you're a good son. No matter what happened that night in the mansion, you're probably a better son than John ever deserved to have.
Brady: Watch it. Don't you talk about him like that. Don't you talk about him at all. You don't know what kind of a father he was. He would've done anything for me, Kristen. He would've sacrificed anything, even his own life, just to keep you away from me.
Kristen: But, Brady, I know you've been on this horrible path, and it's been heading downward, and that you probably feel like everything is wrong in your life and nothing can fixed.
Brady: It can't be fixed, Kristen. And the sick thing about it all is that you knew that it couldn't be fixed.
Kristen: That's not true.
Brady: You knew that this bogus drug wasn't gonna work. You knew it wasn't gonna work on my father.
Kristen: That's not true.
Brady: You knew it wasn't gonna bring him back, but you also knew that we were desperate and that we would--we would try anything... even--even go to you, as ridiculous as that sounds, for help in the mere chance that my father would possibly wake up from your help.
Kristen: I wanted that for you.
Brady: No, you didn't. No, you didn't. What you wanted to do was have Marlena and Eric and me jump through hoops again and fall apart so you could sit back and just watch everybody in pain. How was the show? Did you like it? Was it fun? Because I'm losing my dad, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.
Kristen: Brady, you know, even if John doesn't wake up, if he doesn't come out of the coma, there is something else that can be fixed. [Sighs]
Brady: Hmm?
Kristen: It's the guilt you feel about that night and what happened to your father.
Theresa: Look, I know that you think you're clever, Daniel, but I actually don't have a clue what you're talking about. You know what happened to Brady and his father that night.
Daniel: Actually, no, I don't, and neither does Brady. No one knows but you. And you have been sweating every second of John's treatment. You've been a mess since this happened. You do this nonchalant thing, which is as believable as a UFO story, or you're in just total panic, have 600 rapid-fire questions--is he gonna make it? When is he gonna be up? Will he be up? And if he is, will he remember? Yeah. It's pretty clear your emotional state hinges on John's prognosis. When things look bad for John, you are calm, but when a chance of John waking up seems like a possibility, you just-- you lose it.
Theresa: I do not lose it.
Daniel: You're not exactly subtle. Sorry to bust your bubble.
Theresa: Are you high on pharma-grade drugs that you've been lifting from the hospital, because you're acting awfully paranoid.
Daniel: Wow. This is fascinating.
Theresa: "Fascinating"? I don't--what is wrong with you? Where is this--this is so out of the blue. Where is this coming from?
Daniel: Actually, it isn't out of the blue or all of a sudden. I have been wondering all along, and now... I think I'm pretty close to on the money.
Theresa: [Scoffs] I don't know what you think, Daniel, but...
Daniel: Theresa, you know exactly what I think. Was it you? Were you the one who hit John and put him in that coma?
Marlena: I have prayed so long and so hard... that you'll come back to me, that... that you'll come back to us. And now they're saying that I have to... find a way to say good-bye to you. John... I love you so. I love you so. What? I think-- I think my mind is playing tricks on me now. It just felt like--
Abigail: Thank you, uh, for saying that, Chad.
Chad: I know you, Abigail. You would never intentionally hurt anyone. Maybe in a little while... Ben won't be so mad. He'll let me apologize for putting him on the spot the way I did.
Abigail: Why did you do that?
Chad: You can't blame a guy for being a little jealous. Anyway, I'm trying to be a better person. And I've resolved to start owning my mistakes, stop blaming people for my failures. I know I'm the one who blew it with you, Abby, not the other way around. That's something that I have to live with... learn from. Ben.
Abigail: He was trying, Ben.
Ben: I have zero interest in anything that guy has to say.
Abigail: Okay. Is it really the smartest choice to be outright rude to one of the people who owns the place where you work? Ben, all I'm saying is that I really do believe that Chad is sorry, and... he's a good guy.
Chad: [Sighs] You were right, sis. Don't let 'em see you coming.
Marlena: Eric, he's holding my hand. He won't let go.
Eric: Okay.
Brady: I will carry what I did to my father with me every day--every day that I walk this earth.
Kristen: You don't have to.
[Cell phone ringing]
Theresa: You're accusing me? How sick are you to try to pin this on me and--
[Cell phone ringing]
Kristen: What is it?
Theresa: What is it?
Brady: It's my father.
Marlena: John... John...
Daniel: There's news. It looks like John... may be waking up.
