Episode #12415 ~ Kate & Sami try to block Stefano's return; Clyde gets together with his competition; Abigail tries to fix things with Ben.

[Knocking on door]

Eric: My mother told me what you wanted from me.

Kristen: So, for john's sake, will I get it?

Will: That's right, Ari. [Sighs] Daddy's hit the big time. His new assignment at the magazine is covering the traffic patterns in Salem.

[Knocking on door] It's thrilling, isn't it?

Ben: Is sonny here? I'm supposed to pick up some paperwork from him--for the club.

Will: He's--he's out but he left it here for me to give to you. Come in. I'm sure that, with everything that's happened, you must be pretty upset with me. I don't have any excuses. Not that you'd want to hear them. I just hope that everything--it's not causing too much trouble for you and Abigail.

Marlena: Adorable.

Abigail: Oh, I saw it at Barron's and I just couldn't resist. It's for my goddaughter.

Marlena: She'll be darling in it. Abigail, may we chat for a moment? Please?

Clyde: Well, there you are, Tammy sue. Very pleased to meet you, you come highly recommended.

Carlo: Do I?

Clyde: Yeah. By Kate Roberts. I'd say that's about as high as praise can get in this town.

Sami: Oh, Kate, you know I prefer to eat breakfast alone.

Kate: Okay, so I am expecting a call from my attorney, just keep your fingers crossed that he comes up with something, anything to keep that judge from ruling in Stefano's favor. What the hell is that doing there?

[Phone ringing] Oh.

[Whispering] My attorney. Hello.

Stefano: Ah, Katarina. Buon giorno.

Rafe: All right, got your message. What the hell do you want?

[Soft orchestration] Male announcer: Like sands through the hour glass, so are the days of our lives.

Stefano: It's so good to hear your voice, Katarina.

Sami: So what, Kate, is it your lawyer? Oh my God, hang up the phone!

Stefano: [Laughing] Is that my lovely daughter-in-law that I hear, huh, shouting orders to you?

Kate: What do you want, Stefano?

Stefano: Not a thing, only to wish you well on what should be a marvelous day in Salem.

EJ: Well, I can imagine you were surprised to hear from me.

Rafe: Yeah, well I'll tell you what doesn't surprise me, that you wanted to meet in secret. But what does surprise me is that you wanted to meet here, in the center of town, in broad daylight.

EJ: Rafe, I asked to meet you because I have something that may be helpful to you.

Rafe: Oh, well, forgive me if that doesn't interest me. But see, your brand of help usually--isn't.

EJ: I think when you see what I have to offer, you will realize that what I'm offering this time is different.

Eric: I thought you'd lost the capacity to shock me, Kristen. Yet I cannot wrap my head around what kind of human being would hold somebody's life hostage to get her way.

Kristen: Well it's not just somebody, it's the father of the man I love, Eric.

Eric: Yet you would withhold the medicine that could save his life in order to get your freedom.

Kristen: Yeah. You finally understand. Yes mom, the girls are doing good.

Abigail: How's john? Has there been any change at all?

Marlena: No, there hasn't, but we're hoping for some good news very soon.

Abigail: Good, that's great, I'm glad to hear that.

Marlena: Thank you. That wasn't why I wanted to talk to you. I'm sure you're not thrilled to be sitting here with Sami's mother. Or will's grandmother. But I'm genuinely concerned about you.

Abigail: I'm fine. Yeah, I'm okay, really.

Marlena: I know. You're smart and you're strong. And you've been through so much the last couple years. And with your father's death and all the--all that came with your brother coming back. And there was the business with EJ. That must've been very confusing, complicated, even before it went public.

Abigail: You know--thank you, um, so much for your concern, Marlena, I really appreciate it. But I'm--you know I'm handling just fine, really. I-I-I-I'm-- well, at least I've--

Marlena: What?

Abigail: No--stop, stop. I thought I was, at least. Well now I'm not so sure.

Ben: Can I just have the papers, please.

Will: So you're not going to answer my question?

Ben: The papers. Thank you. Abigail and I haven't talked about you, will. But I always thought you were one of the good guys. I know sonny is. This isn't about him, it's about you. And the truth is, I don't know how the hell you could've ever written that article.

Will: I don't have any excuses, like I said. I started writing, and the more I wrote, the more I realized that I had to tell the whole truth or tell nothing at all.

Ben: Well, maybe you should've gone with the second option.

Will: I'll agree with that. Things got out of hand. I never meant to hurt Abigail, but I know that I did. I screwed up. Haven't you ever screwed up?

Clyde: You miss your mama, don't ya? It's been five years and we all still miss her real bad. But you got family. We'll have each other to lean on. We'll always have each other. So that's what I had in mind. Doable?

Carlo: Depends.

Clyde: On?

Carlo: Someone else is ahead of you.

EJ: You do understand, I hope, that this has to be on the Q.T. Nobody can know that we met.

Rafe: Well, God's sake, EJ, just get to the point. Why did you call me?

EJ: I called you here because I trust you.

Kate: Stefano, if you're trying to scare me--

Stefano: Of course not, carissima, I only wanted you and Samantha to know that the games are over. Ciao.

Sami: Well, what did he say?

Kate: He's trying scare us.

Sami: By saying what, exactly?

Kate: Basically, that the games are over.

Sami: God, I knew it.

Kate: You knew what?

Sami: EJ told me last night, that Stefano's been calling all the members of the board, trying to set up an emergency meeting.

Kate: In Salem? About what?

Sami: Well, I would think it would be to get rid of us, the CEOs--wouldn't you?

Kate: Yeah, yeah, I mean, that's what I would do--I mean, what else is he gonna do at this point, right?

Sami: Look, we have made the board so much money--haven't we? We have impressed them, certainly, we came up with this idea for a coup that most people would never have even tried--for the record. And we should show up at that meeting, we should impress them with our ideas and prove to them that we are what's best for the company.

Kate: Oh my God, Sami, you know, what the board decides right now--it's the least of our problems if Stefano is coming back to Salem. Whoa, my cuts still there.

Kristen: I know. But the D.A. needs your testimony, without it there's no case.

Eric: And Daniel?

Kristen: That's just his word against mine.

Eric: You're a pathological liar, Kristen. You're selfish, vindictive, like to torture my family and continue to get revenge on the people I care about. Which is why I'm seriously tempted to go ahead with my day in court. And tell the world what you did to me.

Kristen: But you're not gonna do that, are you?

Marlena: Abby, I know some very good people that might help you to talk about things.

Abigail: Okay, Marlena, um, there is one thing that you may be able to help me with.

Marlena: Of course.

Abigail: I hurt someone that I really care about and I--I don't understand.

Will: I'm sorry. I don't mean to--I don't want to minimize what I did, or how much it hurt Abigail.

[Phone ringing]

Ben: I have to go.

Will: Ben-- I'm glad you can't read yet. Otherwise you'd hate Daddy too.

Clyde: Whoever the hell's ahead of me, I want to meet him.

Carlo: [Laughing] Not sure that's possible.

Clyde: You'll learn this about me, Carlo, I don't give up easy.

Rafe: You trust me? [Laughing] Aw, that's rich, EJ. Really?

EJ: Let's just say that I am quite sure that you will do the right thing with what I'm about to give you.

Rafe: So what's in it for you? Right. You do have a tax evasion charge hanging over your head, don't you?

EJ: That court date is three months away. And right now I have much more important fires to put out.

Rafe: So what's the catch?

EJ: There's nothing in this for me. But I will require your assurance that you will properly use what I am about to give you.

Rafe: The big reveal.

EJ: I know that you have a court date later today, regarding my father's tax evasion charges. This little document will make sure that you and the people you care about get the decision you want.

Kate: Stefano is going to be hell-bent on revenge, from the moment he sets foot in Salem.

Sami: We don't know that for sure.

Kate: Huh.

Sami: Tell me again exactly what he said to you.

Kate: Oh, basically he said, "game's over."

Sami: Maybe he was just talking to talk, you know?

Kate: Oh yeah, 'cause that's so much like Stefano, no follow through.

Sami: Look, I'm just trying to stay positive.

Kate: Oh my God--hey, why don't you try coming up with a plan to counter-attack his attack.

Sami: Oh yeah, that's a great idea, Kate, why don't I do that when I have no idea what he's planning. Let's just--let's just stay optimistic, okay. Let's not jump to conclusions.

Kate: I have an idea, maybe we should stop whistling past the graveyard. This is Stefano we're talking about, okay? That's your father-in-law, the biggest revenge executioner on the planet.

Sami: So what do you want to do?

Kate: What do I wanna do? Prepare. Because whatever he has planned for us, believe me, we will not see it coming.

Rafe: What the hell is this, it's just a bunch of numbers.

EJ: It's a bunch of numbers that will stop the judge from ruling in my father's favor.

Rafe: Ah, right. You and your father are at odds again. And so you want me to make sure that he stays the hell out of Salem.

EJ: Hm, no, my father and I are not at odds. And as I alluded to you earlier, those numbers did not come from me. My father has a lot of enemies, Rafe, and I'm sure you and your boys at the Salem police department can do your due diligence and dig in to those tax evasion charges. Couple of shadow companies all of your own.

Rafe: Right, while you keep your--your whistle clean out of it.

EJ: Something like that.

Rafe: So that's what all these numbers are, proof that your father's hiding money?

EJ: They show how my father diverted funds to avoid paying taxes, without implicating anybody else.

Rafe: Like Sami or Kate.

EJ: I've given you everything I have. The success of this operation is now entirely in your hands.

Rafe: You're doing this for Sami.

EJ: Samantha has no idea what I'm doing, and it is imperative that it stays that way.

Rafe: Why, you don't want her to know that you're protecting her from your father?

Sami: Okay, seriously Kate, I do not think that Stefano is going to kill us. If he wanted us dead, he would just send one of his henchmen. He wouldn't even need to be in Salem--and by the way, we'd be dead already.

Kate: No, no, no way. That is not his style, believe me, I was married to the bastard long enough. There's nothing he would like more than a front row seat to the carnage.

Sami: He is not to kill u us.

Kate: Really? You know, I'm gonna hold you to that.

Sami: Fine. He's not going to kill me, I'm the mother of his grandchildren.

Kate: Oh, that's nice, thank you, it's so lovely.

Sami: For the record, I don't think he's going to kill you, either. He had feelings for you, he's probably still got a soft spot somewhere.

Kate: Whatever his feelings were for me, or the feelings he has now, none of it matters. None of it matters. Have you ever heard that expression, a fate worse than death?

Sami: I can't--I mean I honestly just can't--

Kate: No, no, you can, you can because if either of us are ever going to survive whatever he has planned, then we cannot be in denial. Because believe me, whatever it is, it's more horrific than we could ever imagine.

Ben: Hey, what is it? What's wrong?

Jordan: Have you seen Clyde?

Ben: No, why? Have you? Is that why you're so shaken up?

Jordan: I'm shaken up because he has ruined my life. I've finally made something for myself. I had a life here--a great job, an amazing guy.

Ben: Jordan.

Jordan: It was the first time, in all the years that we left poplar bluff, that I stopped running--that you stopped running. We have friends, a feeling of what it's like to have a home.

Ben: And we can't let him ruin that or any of those things for us, sis. I promise you, it's gonna be all right. You can't promise that, Ben--you can say that--you can say that, but you know him. You know Clyde and you know nothing is ever going to be the same again.

Abigail: So it all got mixed up. I don't even understand why I pushed Ben away like that, I just-- I don't know, it just happened.

Marlena: Abby, I think if you examine the moment, really carefully--considering everything that you've been through, you might find that your actions had nothing to do with Ben, or the way you feel about him.

Abigail: I know how I feel about him. I like him, I really like him. And now I've hurt him and I just--I don't know how to change that.

Marlena: I'm not sure you can change that. But you can sort out your own part in it, and then talk to him. Hopefully he'll understand.

Abigail: Yeah. Yeah, you're right, I don't want to lose him. I really care about him and I just--he's such a great guy, I feel like if I talk to him he'll listen and I--

Eric: When you opened that door and you saw me standing there, you knew I'd give you what you want. As if I'd let john pay the price for your miserable devil's bargain. You'll have to take my word this time, won't you?

Kristen: And I do.

Eric: Here are my conditions. I won't sign anything.

Kristen: I wasn't gonna ask you too.

Eric: Nor will I promise not to testify against you, until you've made sure that medicine, that latest miracle drug, reaches john and he awakes from his coma because of it.

Kristen: Eric, wait a second. Now that that's out of the way, I just want to tell you I am so sorry.

Eric: Sorry? You think sorry covers what you did to me?

Kristen: I'm not talking about what happened between the two of us--although, actually, I am very sorry about that. But I haven't seen you in a really long time, and it's remarkable how much you've changed.

Eric: What do you know about me changing, you don't know me now and you didn't know me before.

Kristen: I knew you. We did the pre-cana counseling, remember? We worked side by side for the scholarship fund for the kids from St. Luke's, and I saw how seriously you took your work. How much you loved working with the people in the parish. You were a strong and caring man of God. And no matter what happened between the two of us, I could never have changed that, I never had that kind of power. But you have changed-- a lot. And I know why. It's because of Nicole.

Eric: No. You're really crossing into dangerous territory

Kristen: She made you bitter. That's so sad. It's tragic. It's heartbreaking. But that's on her. We all know it. Yes!

Abigail: I--I really want to go give this to Arianna.

Marlena: I understand.

Abigail: Thank you for listening.

EJ: Abigail? Marlena, is Abigail okay? You seemed to be having a pretty intense conversation, so I was just--

Marlena: If you think I'm going to discuss that or anything with you, you are out of your mind.

EJ: I'm just concerned about her.

Marlena: You're concerned? If I remotely believe you could be concerned about anybody but yourself, I still wouldn't discuss it with you.

EJ: Look, I appreciate that you don't have any empathy or understanding what I'm going through, but I would like you to please consider accepting the fact, that despite what everybody else may say, I have feelings. I care about your daughter, I care about your family and I--

Marlena: Don't you dare! Don't you dare bring up Samantha to me.

EJ: I wasn't. I was about to ask you about john. Has there been any change?

Rafe: So, I've been digging, basically, 24-7, and I've come up with some new information and some specific numbers which I need you to verify. Well, as soon as you can, before the DiMera hearing.

Kate: The hearing, what about it?

Rafe: Still on for today.

[Both sigh in relief]

Sami: That means we still have time.

[Knocking on door]

Will: Abigail.

Abigail: Hello. I bought Ari the prettiest little outfit and I think that Gabi will just love it.

Will: Well, Ari's asleep but as soon as she wakes up we'll put it on her, we'll send Gabi a picture.

Abigail: Okay.

Will: That is super cute. I'm really surprised to see you.

Abigail: Why? I'm Arianna's godmother and I made a big promise to be a part of her life, no matter what else is going on or how I feel about her father.

Ben: I thought we decided we weren't gonna run anymore.

Jordan: Clyde won't go away, Ben, he'll never go away.

Ben: Then we have to just ignore him. We have to act like he's not even in Salem, Jordan. Look, I can take care of myself now. And if he ever comes near you, you let me know and I'll handle it. Jordan, what happened this morning that upset you so much?

Clyde: You miss your mama, don't ya? It's been five years and we all still miss her real bad. But you got family. We'll have each other to lean on.

Ben: Sis, talk to me, please. Tell me what happened?

Carlo: [Laughing]

Clyde: Well?

Carlo: I did what I could, Clyde. You may be getting a call.

Clyde: One way or another, I will make this happen.

Marlena: John, I went ahead and I asked Eric to go along with Kristen. I've asked her not to testify against her so that we can get you the drugs you need. I know how upsetting that's going to be to you. Because, once again, our lives are in Kristen's hands.

Eric: I saw Kristen. I gave her my answer. I'm gonna do it. I'm sorry that I even doubted, even for a minute, that it was the--the right thing to do. I'm sorry I put you through that.

Marlena: I love you so much. Oh my. And I know--I know what this is costing you.

Eric: It doesn't matter the cost, it's doing what's best for john, doing everything we can for him.

Marlena: I just hope Kristen's right. I hope this drug works.

Eric: I know how much he means to you, mom.

Marlena: I just hope that I get a chance to tell him.

Abigail: Why didn't you tell me?

Will: Abigail, I wrote the truth, but I never meant for them to mention your name.

Abigail: No, why didn't you tell me that your mom was the one who insisted that my name be in the article?

Will: Because I wrote it and it was my byline.

Abigail: I know, but I know the editor is the one who insisted my name was in it.

Will: And I thought that I was protecting you by not mentioning your name, but I was in denial. Even if your name hadn't have been mentioned, people would have put two and two together that it was you.

Abigail: Still...

Will: Still what?

Abigail: When I first found out I was really upset and now that I know all the details, it's not quite as horrible as I first thought.

Will: Well I'm really glad to hear that. You hear that, Ari, your daddy is not as horrible as your godmother once thought.

Abigail: But he's still a colossal jerk.

Will: Nobody is angrier about this than me. Except maybe Ben. He came by earlier today.

Abigail: What? Why?

Will: To get some papers for sonny. I tried to feel him out about you two but he was vague. Are you guys alright?

Jordan: I hate Clyde being anywhere near us.

Ben: We can't let him do this, Jordan. We can't let him win. The only thing we can do is just keep trying to make our lives better from now on.

Abigail: I don't want to talk to you about Ben.

Will: I understand. I just hope you two are okay.

Abigail: Let me know if the dress fits Ari.

Will: I will. It was really sweet of you to get that for her, and to bring it over.

Abigail: Yeah, I love that little girl. And I'll see her soon.

Will: You come by any time.

Abigail: Yeah, I know, I'll work it out with sonny.

EJ: Well of course you'll be compensated for any proprietary information. What time is Stefano DiMera's hearing? Thank you. Now, if Rafe just does his part.

[Phone ringing] Yes. Who? Never heard of him. Have him checked out. I know. Well you better hope this pays off.

Rafe: Well Sami, I'm doing what I can, but I'm not sure we're gonna be able to stop Stefano.

Sami: But you have to. I mean, you have to stop him.

Rafe: Sami, he has an armada of lawyers helping him dodge absolutely everything.

Kate: What if he threatened my life?

Eric: Mom, I know this is a chance for john, but--

Marlena: Oh, I'm not counting on this if that's what you're worried about. It's just that this is the first hope we've had, you know? Um, look, you--you spoke to Kristen. What do you think, is she bluffing?

Is she trying to torment us? I'm sorry, I mean, how can you tell, how can any of us tell what she's thinking?

Eric: We can't. All we can do is pray.

Stefano: I am confident that I will see you very, very soon, cara.

Kristen: I know, father, and when we do we will both be free.

Stefano: [Laughing] Glorious.

Kristen: But don't waste time, please, you need to get that drug to Kayla and Daniel as soon as possible.

Stefano: Of course, but remember--

Kristen: It's untested, I know.

Stefano: Uh-huh, you must be realistic about this.

Kristen: I know, it could go either way. I'll talk to you soon. It has to work. Just has to work, I mean, please, everything is riding on this.

Rafe: Did Stefano threaten your life?

Kate: I'm asking if that would make a difference in the outcome of the hearing.

Rafe: Well, the hearing is about his tax evasion charges.

Kate: Yes, I know. And Stefano suspects that I'm the one who handed over the evidence that would formalize those charges, that's why he's threatening to kill me.

Rafe: So he did threaten your life?

Kate: That's what I said, isn't it?

Rafe: Well, it's your word against his.

Kate: Not if I have a witness.

Rafe: Someone heard the threat?

Kate: Sami. Sami heard every word. Sami heard Stefano threaten to kill me.

Jordan: Ben is right, we cannot let him win.

Abigail: [Clears throat]

Ben: I'm working.

Abigail: Ben, listen, I want to talk about what happened.

Ben: I don't want to talk about it.

Abigail: Please?

Ben: There's nothing else to say. Okay, I--I get the bigger picture now. I saw you looking at EJ DiMera and the whole thing made sense.

Abigail: Ben, please--

Ben: Come on, Abigail, I was kissing you and you pushed me away. And you did that because you were thinking about him.

Clyde: Mr. DiMera, it's a real honor, sir.
