Episode #12413 ~ Kristen makes a move that sends ripples through town; Marlena must make a difficult decision; Theresa hits a low with Brady.
Provided By Suzanne
JJ: Hey, you.
Paige: Hi. [Giggles]
JJ: I thought you were babysitting Parker?
Paige: I just dropped him off at Joanna's.
JJ: Oh, so the whole rest of the night's yours.
Paige: No, ours.
JJ: Cool. Great, great.
Paige: I thought we could watch that movie or check out... that's addressed to me.
JJ: Uh, yeah. Yeah.
Paige: What's in it?
Sami: My God, Kate, would you please just stop yelling. Ah, I can't take it. What? Look, yes, I understand that this is a crisis situation. But I'm just thinking that anything is possible, you know? I mean, the judge, he could--he could decide that he's going to blow Stefano's deal out of the water, and then Stefano can't come back to Salem at all. No, I am not high. I am just--
Nicole: Wait. Hold on.
Eric: I don't want to listen, Nicole.
Nicole: Well, you're going to. You don't get to accuse me of something like that and then just walk away.
Eric: Would you just back off and stop making it worse?
Nicole: Why won't you let me explain?
Eric: Because I don't want an explanation. It was obvious from the get-go. You just tried to manipulate me and fall for one of your lies again.
Nicole: Oh, my God, it was an accident. Seriously?
Eric: When are you going to face reality? There's no future for you here. Just go. Stay away.
Theresa: You are so intense.
Brady: Do you want me to stop?
Theresa: No. God, no, never.
Kayla: The problem is what's not there.
Daniel: Yeah, from what it looks like...
Kayla: Could be an amazing breakthrough.
Daniel: Yeah.
Kayla: Yeah.
Daniel: Of course, we can't ignore where it came from.
Kayla: You don't think it's legitimate?
Daniel: Ah, it might not be. But, hey, there is only one way to find out.
Marlena: You can't be serious.
Kristen: Of course I am.
Marlena: No, you would never help john, never.
Kristen: Could you please stop making everything about how much you hate me? This is for real. I found a way to help john get better.
Marlena: I don't think so. We've consulted every specialist in the country. John's coma is permanent, and he is deteriorating quickly.
Kristen: Instead of arguing with me, why don't you just call Daniel Jonas? I'm sure he can explain it much better than I can.
Marlena: Daniel?
[Cell phone ringing]
Kristen: Oh, ha. Hi, Daniel. Yeah, I thought I'd be hearing from you.
Nicole: Excuse me. You're acting like it's my fault you made the wrong assumption. I never said I was taking that job in Santa Fe.
Eric: No, you just made sure I misinterpreted what I saw... hoping that I'd beg you to stay. Forgive and forget, right? After what you did, that's not going to happen, Nicole.
Sami: You're damn right.
Nicole: Oh, why don't you buzz off, Sami?
Sami: Why don't you get a clue, Nicole? He doesn't want anything to do with you. My brother will never want anything to do with you ever again. So why don't you salvage what's left of your dignity and get lost?
Kristen: So I assume you got my email.
Daniel: Yeah, Kayla did. We both looked over the formula and the statistical studies. We'd like to see you, if that's all right... in person.
Kristen: Wonderful.
Daniel: Well, how soon can you come to my office?
Kristen: Well, there's a problem. See, Brady took out a restraining order against me, so I can't go to the hospital because of john. And given the sensitive nature of the information, we probably should not meet in public, so what about meeting at my hotel room?
Daniel: Let's meet at my apartment.
Kristen: Okay, sounds like a plan. See you soon. We're going to meet at Daniel's.
Marlena: What the hell have you done?
Kristen: I guess you're going to find out.
JJ: It's--it's just, uh... nothing.
Paige: No, it's a box with my name on it... addressed to my dorm room at Stanford?
JJ: Okay, look, when you decided that you weren't going to go there and that you were going to stay here for another year, I'd already sent it. I just wanted this to be the first thing you opened when you got there.
Paige: But I didn't get there, so they sent it back.
JJ: Mm-hmm.
Paige: That's so sweet, JJ. What's in it?
JJ: Nothing. Just... stuff. Let's not open it.
Paige: Why not?
JJ: It's just-- when I put this together, I thought we weren't going to be seeing each other for a couple months, so it's just-- I don't know. It's just going to be cheesy.
Paige: I love cheesy.
JJ: Okay. Scissors.
Paige: Open it.
JJ: Oh, boy.
Paige: [Giggles] Aha! [Giggles] I'll definitely save this for next year.
JJ: All right.
Paige: [Giggles]
JJ: Okay. [Laughs] Well, I did the community-bathroom thing at boarding school, so believe me, you are going to need those.
Paige: Okay, save them too. [Laughs]
JJ: Yeah.
Paige: Aw. Actually, this is kind of a bad picture of me. [Laughs]
JJ: Paige, I don't think you could take a bad picture if you tried.
Paige: You always know what to say. Okay.
JJ: I know--it's... it's kind of lame, right?
Paige: It's perfect.
Eric: Sami, just back off.
Sami: Look, I just don't think you should have to put up with a baby snatcher--
Nicole: Why don't you mind your own business?
Eric: I got this.
Sami: He is my business. He's my brother, and I'm not going to stand around and let you harass him.
Nicole: Maybe if you focused on your own relationship instead of Eric's, EJ wouldn't have cheated on you.
Sami: Oh, really? You want to go there? You want to start this right now?
Nicole: You know, your son really nailed you in that article. What did he say about you? You're narcissistic, petty, and selfish to the bone?
Sami: You are dead meat.
Nicole: Oh, you want to kill me--go ahead.
Sami: Yeah, don't tempt me.
Nicole: 'Cause I hear Stefano is inches from Salem, and you and Kate are at the top of his to-do list. I'm surprised that your kids aren't motherless yet, crying themselves to sleep at night. You know you have a target on your back.
Eric: Nicole, what is wrong with you?
Nicole: She started it! Actually, I'm... sorry I said that bit about your kids. They're going to be fine. They're going to be fine. I didn't mean what I said. I just lost my temper. [Sighs]
[Both sigh]
Theresa: Hey, um, can I ask you something?
Brady: Sure.
Theresa: Well... you know you've been saying for weeks now how we should, you know, go off on our own... no more good times, no more anything. And I mean, you know, the annulment papers--they just came in today, so... why did this happen?
Kayla: Marlena, today we received an email from a biochemist who works in a lab in... in someplace in the world. And apparently he was told to contact us.
Kristen: Yeah, by me.
Kayla: By... Daniel, I think you better do this.
Daniel: Yeah. Yeah, the email contains part of the formula for an experimental drug, also some statistical studies. Kayla and I researched this extensively, and we both agree that, in theory, this drug could be used to bring john out of a coma.
Marlena: No. No, that's impossible. This is some vicious game of hers now. Look, Daniel, we've talked with every specialist in the country. This--this drug certainly would've come up.
Kristen: Marlena, you know my father--he likes to stay ahead of the curve on these kind of things. He's always in touch with the most brilliant physicians in the world.
Marlena: Hmm, the lovely Chyka?
Kristen: Who? Anyway, when I told my father that john was going downhill and that Marlena was heartbroken, he decided that he would help make john better somehow, find a cure.
Marlena: She's lying, isn't she? I mean, there is not a cure, is there? This is just some kind of hoax. All she wants to do is have a good laugh with Stefano.
Kayla: Marlena--
Marlena: Or even worse--you know what? The drug will kill john.
Kristen: [Laughs] Why would I bother? He's a couple days away from death.
Marlena: You'd bother because you're a vile, vicious woman.
Kayla: Marlena! Marlena, we need to try to keep this as civil as we possibly can... no matter how we feel about Kristen. But based on our studies, this drug does have the potential to save john... or at least improve his condition.
Daniel: Well, as I told you before, uh, you only gave us part of the formula.
Marlena: Oh, I get it now. If we want the other part of the formula, we have to live up to a series of her conditions.
Kristen: Not a series, just a couple. The first one involves Brady.
Marlena: [Scoffs]
Paige: Missed.
JJ: Well, I mean, how was I supposed to get that?
Paige: [Laughs]
JJ: All right.
Paige: All right. Okay. Aw.
JJ: Okay, see? You're--you're not even trying.
Paige: I'm kind of "popcorned" out. Want to do something else?
JJ: Yeah. Well, this is, like, the last night before classes start. We got to do something fun.
Paige: Like?
JJ: I got it. It's perfect. But it's going to require us to get a lot more naked.
Nicole: To all the dumb dreams that never happened. Hear, hear. And to the dumbest person in this room, right here.
Caroline: What the heck do you think you're doing?
Nicole: Hey, I just got that. Get your own.
Caroline: What makes you think you can come into my pub and order anything?
Nicole: I thought you said I was always welcome.
Caroline: Well, that's before I knew what you did to my grandson. Without that, he might still be a priest.
Nicole: Ugh. [Sighs]
Eric: Nicole--she didn't have to throw it in your face. And the cracks that she made about Stefano killing you and Kate?
Sami: Well, she's closer to the truth than I thought. We do have pretty big targets on our backs.
Eric: Sami, is he threatening you?
Sami: No, no. I haven't heard a peep out of Stefano, actually. I mean, I did hear a rumor that he, um... well, he might be making a deal with the state.
Eric: So Stefano could be back in Salem any day.
Sami: Which would not be good news for Kate or me.
Brady: Look, uh... y-you asked me what happened. I'll tell you what happened. I really wasn't thinking. And this--this was really sudden.
Theresa: Well, when you came in earlier, you seemed, uh... you seemed upset. My God, Brady. Did something happen with your dad? Did he...
Brady: No, no, no, no, listen, he's--he's the same.
Theresa: Oh. Well, that's--that's good. So what was going on with you when you came in earlier?
Brady: Look, um... this... this was a mistake. I am so sorry.
Marlena: And there it is-- once again, her crazy scheme. All you want to do is get Brady back. Let me tell you something, sweetheart. He wants nothing to do with you. He hates your guts.
Kristen: Okay, maybe if you could shut up for a second, I would explain that I actually want the exact opposite.
Kayla: I'm sorry?
Kristen: I came very close to telling Brady about this earlier, and I'm glad I didn't. I don't want him to know anything about it. I want him to be kept completely in the dark until we can find out for sure if the drug works, because I don't want his hopes to get up for nothing.
Daniel: Okay.
Kristen: Can we at least agree on that, yes?
Daniel: No, no, let's, let's, let's. Okay, not a word. Not a word to Brady. None of us want to see Brady get hurt again, ever again.
Kristen: Yeah, thank you. Neither do I.
Marlena: [Scoffs]
Kayla: The report that came along with that email said that it was imperative that the drug was administered as soon as possible.
Daniel: We just--we just need the rest of the formula.
Kristen: Right, well, that would depend on Marlena... which brings us to the second condition that I mentioned earlier. I think we should go talk about that one in private. Living with chronic migraine
Brady: It was... so selfish of me, Theresa. I mean, I-I tell you we're over, and then I drag you to bed.
Theresa: Hey, you don't ever have to drag me.
Brady: Yeah, but talk about a mixed signal I'm sending you.
Theresa: Well, I'm not mad, if that's what you were worried about. I mean, seriously. If you were confused, it's--
Brady: It's--it's not that.
Theresa: Okay. Well, you know, whatever it is, I-I really care about you, Brady. You know that, right? So, you know, I mean, if this was just a one-time thing, then that's cool. That's fine.
Brady: You sure?
Theresa: Yeah, absolutely. I mean, you know me, I'm always looking for a good time, and you were definitely... a good time, Brady, so...
Brady: Okay, thanks.
Theresa: Yeah, sure. No problem.
Nicole: Excuse me. The reason Eric got defrocked was because of Kristen. Go steal her martini.
Caroline: Yeah, well, I have a few choice words for that piece of trash. But you are the one who destroyed the evidence that would've cleared him, and so you're as much to blame as she is.
Nicole: I helped him in every way I could. I went to Rome. I testified for him. They reinstated him. He is the one who decided not to go back to the priesthood.
Caroline: That's because he was so full of hate for what happened that he didn't think he could do it.
Nicole: Well, you know what they say--it's a thin line between love and hate.
Eric: Sami, have you told dad?
Sami: About what?
Eric: Sami, if he threatened you, you need to go file a report.
Sami: Oh, no, no, look, we don't know what's going to happen with Stefano. He might not get the deal. And he probably won't be able to come back to Salem. What?
Eric: Sami, the DiMeras get what they want no matter who gets hurt. They get away with murder almost as much-- I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
Sami: No problem.
Eric: You understand what I'm saying, though, right?
Sami: Yeah.
Eric: You got to be on guard, ready for anything. I know you remember what happened with Kristen.
Sami: Yes, yes, I know, okay? She paid off a judge, and she made bail. But she is going to pay for what she did to you. I know it. I know it in my soul. You're going to testify against her at her trial. She's going to end up at Statesville, and then she's going down.
Daniel: We're going to be right outside.
Marlena: Thank you.
Kristen: You might want to alert the hospital lab. The sooner they can get that drug ready to make, the better. The formula might actually come in tonight, depending on what Marlena decides.
Kayla: Oh, God. I hate that woman.
Daniel: Well, unfortunately, she's holding all the cards.
Kayla: You know, too bad we can't just come up with the rest of the formula by ourselves.
Daniel: I know. But if we're just--one ingredient is the least bit off or the wrong amount was used...
Kayla: I have to get back to the hospital. I wonder what Kristen's doing in there.
Daniel: Well, I have a pretty good guess. She is about to wreck a lot of people's lives.
Kristen: So here's the upshot. Although I was able to convince my father to help find a cure for john, he wants a couple of assurances before he hands it over.
Marlena: What kind of assurances?
Kristen: Well, you love your daughters, right?
Marlena: Yes.
Kristen: Well, my father loves me. He doesn't want to see me go to prison.
Marlena: No.
Kristen: Yes. You have to have a convo with Eric.
Paige: [Screams]
[Both laughing]
Paige: Perfect way to say good-bye to summer.
JJ: Yeah. Yep. You know, when I'm crammed in my seat tomorrow, listening to that boring lecture, I'll just be able to lean back and think of you in that bikini.
Paige: Stop it.
JJ: No, it's true.
Paige: How many classes do you have tomorrow?
JJ: Three. Yeah, but I'm thinking about dropping one--music theory.
Paige: Why?
JJ: I don't know. I just feel like I should study something more useful.
Paige: Okay, here's why you're wrong. You should study whatever you feel passionate about. And you're a terrific musician. Second, I signed up for that class too.
JJ: Really? When?
Paige: It was supposed to be a surprise.
JJ: Well, you're just full of surprises, aren't you?
Paige: Oh, well, I hope so. I hate to think I'm predictable already. We only met six months ago.
JJ: Well, I'm not dropping that class.
Paige: Good. Actually, music theory was one of the few interesting classes I could actually get into, you know, 'cause I enrolled so late.
JJ: Yeah.
Paige: What?
JJ: Just--I don't know. Just staying here and going to Salem u--that really screwed things up for you, didn't it? Just be honest, okay? Are you sorry that you stayed?
Brady: [Sighs]
Theresa: Here you go... the annulment papers.
Brady: Thanks. I can't apologize enough for--
Theresa: Brady, don't. Seriously, I had a really great time.
Brady: But I know how you feel, and I crossed a line, and--
Theresa: No, hey, no harm, no foul. And, you know, it's really nice to know that you care about me.
Brady: I do. I do, and of course we can be friends.
Theresa: We will be.
Brady: Good.
Theresa: You do realize, though, that that was the first time we ever made love sober. [Chuckles]
Brady: Imagine that.
Theresa: Yeah. Well, I think it made it that much sweeter.
[Cell phone ringing]
Theresa: Hey, is, uh, china calling already?
Brady: No, it's one of the nurses at the hospital. It's... it's about my dad.
Caroline: You mean because Eric hates you, that really means he loves you? Well, you're crazy. You should see a psychiatrist soon if you think that's what my grandson feels for you.
Nicole: Son of a bitch! I have no idea how Eric feels about me, okay? All I know is I love him more than I've loved anyone in my entire life. And he loved me. And, yes, I still love him. I will always love him. That feeling doesn't just die, not for me, not for anybody.
Sami: At least one DiMeras going to pay for what they've done. Even if EJ and Stefano find a way to skate with just a fine, at least Kristen will--
Eric: What? What's wrong?
Sami: I was just thinking that your case against Kristen might make Stefano--
Eric: Come after you even stronger.
Sami: I didn't say that.
Eric: Sami, do you think I should drop the charges?
Sami: No. No. My God, Eric, of course not. No, you have to make that woman pay for what she has done to you. I can't wait--I can't wait to picture her living her life in Statesville.
Eric: Sami--
Sami: And then even if you're not a priest again, at least you'll know you've done the right thing.
Eric: I could be putting your life in danger.
Sami: No, no, you won't be doing that at all. Don't--don't worry about that. I mean, honestly, like, Stefano's not going to harm the mother of his grandkids, I promise. He's not like that, you know? I shouldn't have even have thought of it. I shouldn't have said anything. It's fine.
Eric: I don't know. I mean, you know Stefano's a cold-blooded killer.
Sami: Well, you know, allegedly. But that's not the point. The point is... if anything, he's most mad at what I did taking his company from him and embarrassing him. It's not about you. Don't worry about it.
Eric: Yeah, I suppose.
Sami: Hey, I know. You, you go get 'em, tiger. Rawr.
Eric: You know, some days after everything that's happened in this past year, I've been struggling. But, you know, when I saw Kristen being dragged into that police station, it kind of gave my life meaning again.
Sami: I hear that.
Eric: Some days it's the one thing that keeps me going, just knowing that I'm going to send that woman to prison.
Marlena: You're asking me-- I'm his mother. You can't ask me to hurt my son.
Kristen: Okay, let's be really clear about this. I'm not asking. My father is asking. Even if I begged him, he wouldn't hand over the drug. Okay? Only if Eric agrees not to testify against me. Without his testimony, there's no case, and without a case, my father's very happy.
Marlena: And, of course, you're very happy too.
Kristen: Of course I'm very happy, yes. But again, I can't get the drug. Only my father can get the drug.
Marlena: You are disgusting. After all you've done to my son, you expect him to give up any chance of justice?
Kristen: It's not my problem, I'm sure you could figure something out.
Marlena: Maybe Stefano wants something else.
Kristen: You know what's so interesting about this? If john's condition is deteriorating as quickly as I hear it is, should you really be standing around here weeping and moaning? Don't you think you should be trying to find Eric?
Daniel: Marlena, are you okay? Kayla went back--
Kristen: Don't worry about her. She has a lot on her mind.
Sami: Think of it this way. You know, you're actually going to make everyone--especially me--very happy by putting Kristen away.
Eric: Really, finally.
Sami: Yeah, exactly. She doesn't have a friend in the world. Even EJ's going to be testifying against her.
Eric: Yeah, everything would've been different--
Sami: If he had turned on her in the first place. I know. I feel like an idiot. I should not have been loyal to that son of a bitch. I mean, why? Why?
Eric: Because you were in love, Sami.
Sami: But you're my twin. You're my brother. You mean everything to me.
Eric: I love you. Nothing will ever change that. I mean, after all the years and the stunts that you've pulled off, you should know that by now.
Sami: I do. And I am grateful... 'cause you are such a great brother.
Eric: Mm.
Sami: And kind... and thoughtful...
Eric: Uh-huh.
Sami: And handsome.
Eric: Right, ooh, good one.
Sami: Mom's favorite.
Eric: Mom's favorite.
Sami: [Laughs] You know I hate that one. That's my least favorite.
Daniel: [Chuckles] All right, let me guess. You--you told Marlena to convince Eric not to testify against you.
Kristen: Hmm, was that a guess, or were you eavesdropping?
Daniel: Oh, I knew the second you asked Kayla and me to leave the room. It's kind of predictable, really.
Kristen: Aw, I'm starting to think you know me too well, Daniel. And by the way, I was just passing on a demand of my father's.
Daniel: Oh, were you? Is that a fact? I hope you don't expect anybody to believe that. I mean, you seriously think Brady won't blame you for this?
Kristen: Blame me? For what, saving his father's life?
Daniel: More like saving your own.
Kristen: You're so cynical. That's just an added bonus.
Daniel: You are awfully confident that this drug is going to work.
Kristen: Daniel, it will.
Daniel: Oh, it better. If it doesn't or if this is a bluff, you are going to be in a deeper hole than you are now.
Kristen: Maybe you don't know me as well as I thought you did. Let's check. Am I bluffing?
Daniel: No.
Kristen: No. It's going to be a win-win for everybody.
Daniel: Except for Eric.
Kristen: And why do you say that? He's just going to find some phrase in the bible. "Vengeance is mine, sayeth the lord." Besides, he's giving his mother back the love of her life. How could you say no to that?
Daniel: You've got it all figured out, don't you?
Kristen: It's going to happen.
Daniel: Yeah? Well, even if it does, there is--there is one thing you should know. Brady--he is never going to change his mind about you.
Brady: [Sighs]
Theresa: So is he waking up? Is he saying anything?
Brady: No, that was, uh...
Theresa: [Clears throat]
Brady: That was one of the nurses telling me that I can go see him because they're done with the testing for today. But they're--they're moving him to a long-term-care facility. They don't think he's going to wake up.
Theresa: Oh.
Brady: Yeah, yeah.
Theresa: Well, that's--that's really sad. Um, I should--I should let you go, then. I'll see you.
Brady: Thank you, and thanks for being so understanding.
Theresa: Hey, hey, we're good. [Sighs] Well... [Giggles] Brady might think that was a one-time thing, but me... not so much.
Kristen: There you go again. You're always so sure of yourself. It's getting kind of comical. Even you can't predict the future.
Daniel: Well, just some things are kind of obvious.
Kristen: Mm. I have to go. There's somebody I need to see. I'm sure we'll be in touch as soon as Marlena does her job. Bye.
[Door closes]
[Footsteps approaching]
[Monitor beeping]
Marlena: After all that Eric's been through... all that he's lost... how do I ask him? Because he deserves-- you need his help. Brady needs him.
[Cell phone ringing]
Eric: Hey, Mom. Where are you?
Marlena: Hi, honey. I'm not far. Um... Eric, I-I need to talk to you about something. It's really important, so could you--could you just come and meet me, please?
Paige: Okay, there. If Mary Beth texts back again, I'll just ignore her. I'm sorry.
JJ: Oh, it's no problem.
Paige: So, anyway, am I sorry I stayed? No. Nothing at Stanford's so important that I should skip having another year with my mom... and you.
JJ: You sure?
Paige: Absolutely. What, you think you're holding me back? [Laughs] I could soar with the eagles if it weren't for you?
JJ: Stop, stop, stop. It's just-- okay, I just--I worry about you, all right? Because I love you.
Paige: I love you too. So staying here is a good thing.
[Camera shutter clicking]
Sami: [Sighs] [Scoffs] [Sighs]
Nicole: Stupid old cow. You think feelings like that just go away? They don't. Bitch... this is your fault. There, Kristen. At least you're giving me something to look forward to.
Theresa: Anne, you are not going to believe what happened. No, no, this isn't about Jenn-Jenn. This is about Brady. And it is so exciting.
Kristen: Oh, really? Do tell.
Brady: They may be moving you to a different place, but, uh... this isn't over, dad. I don't care what these tests say, and I don't care what these doctors say. It's not over.
[Door opens]
Kayla: Brady, hey.
Brady: Hi. Is it time?
Kayla: Um, well, actually, your father's transfer's been put on hold for a little while.
Brady: Really? Why?
Kayla: Well, you know, it's just sort of a procedural thing--red tape.
Brady: "Red tape"? What--what do you mean?
Kayla: Listen, don't worry about it.
[Cell phone ringing]
Kayla: They're going to reschedule it, and I'll let you know as soon as that happens. Oh, I'm sorry. I got to take of this.
Daniel: Ah, always playing games, aren't you, Kristen?
[Cell phone ringing]
Daniel: Hello?
Kayla: Hi. Hi. It's Kayla. Um, listen, I just wanted to tell you that Brady's here, and I don't think I did a very good job explaining why his father's not being transferred. Uh, I don't know. Maybe he bought it. But you might be getting a phone call.
Daniel: All right, got it. What's up with the lab?
Kayla: I alerted them, and they said that they're ready to go as soon as we get the rest of the formula to them. So tell me, were you right? Did Kristen tell Marlena that she's got to convince Eric not to testify?
Daniel: She did. And Marlena's probably found him by now. I'd hate to be her.
Eric: Mom, hey.
Marlena: Hi, honey.
Eric: You sounded so upset on the phone. Is everything o-- mom, have you been crying? What happened? Did something happen with john?
Marlena: No, john-- john is the same, but he's-- he's the reason that I'm here.
Eric: I don't understand.
Marlena: Oh, I hate myself for doing this.
Eric: Doing what?
Marlena: I have to ask you to do something... and it's something really horrible.
