Kate: Can't tell you how much I love the chaos that Kristen left for you at Countess W.

Sami: You know what? Can you just keep the snark to yourself? I'm in a hurry.

Kate: Okay, whatever. You're the one who called the meeting. You're the one who said it was urgent, so...

Sami: It is urgent, okay? I have a lot to do. I have to go home and get packed and dressed and a lot before I leave town. And I need your help.

EJ: You went over the entire grid?

Man: And all the way up the road to be safe.

EJ: Good. That's it?

Man: Every scrap of evidence we found.

EJ: Goodness, that is frighteningly big. They were careless?

Man: Let's just say you're lucky no cops saw this. Want me to destroy it?

EJ: No, I'll take care of it. Thank you. I will have the money wired into your usual account. And once again, I certainly appreciate your discretion.

Man: Anytime, Mr. DiMera.

EJ: [Sighs]

Stefano: Ah... I see there's still trouble in paradise.

Will: Hey.

Sonny: [Gasps]

Will: Is that your newest New Year's resolution?

Sonny: Yes.

Will: Well, let me see. You got a pretty good track record with those.

Sonny: No, you'll jinx it.

Will: Come on. I didn't jinx the last one, did I? I fell in love with you. "Marry Will Horton."

Sonny: Don't look so surprised.

Will: You want to marry me? Why wouldn't I? I mean, it's not easy.

Nick: No. No, it isn't. You covered up my murder. And that's not all he's been hiding from you. Ask him. Ask him what he's been keeping from you for over a year. Ask him about the mother of your child. Go ahead.

Will: Sonny? Are you hiding something from me?

Sonny: [Gasps] Will?

[Water rushing]

Sonny: Gabi hit Nick over the head with a rock. Sami and Kate helped her drag him to the river. They dropped him in the water, and he came to, grabbed Sami's arm. He wasn't dead... yet. They freaked out or something, and Sami let go. And then he was gone.

Rafe: Hey, cutie.

Gabi: Hi, yourself.

Rafe: I wasn't talking to you.

Gabi: [Scoffs] Of course you weren't. Now everybody talks to the baby and not to me.

Rafe: Well, yeah. That's how it goes.

Gabi: You okay?

Rafe: Yeah. I'm good. Nick was just here.

Gabi: What?

Rafe: Yeah. I'm kidding. Nick--you know, my physical therapist Pete, the one who looks like Nick.

Gabi: Oh, right, yeah. How--how did that go?

Rafe: It was good. I've been walking all over the place. You should've seen it. Yeah, by next month, I'm gonna be on my feet half day, every day.

Gabi: That would be--that would be--that would be great. Don't you have things to do? Isn't there a certain someone you'd like to sweep off her feet?

Rafe: Oh.

Abigail: [Chuckles] Hey.

Jordan: Hey.

Abigail: Hi. Jordan Ridgeway, this is my uncle Lucas Horton.

Kate: What it's about is that I had a feeling, and I acted on it, and now I'm waiting for my private investigator to fill in the blanks about Ms. Ridgeway.

Lucas: Jordan Ridgeway... I've heard a lot about you.

EJ: Everything's fine.

Stefano: Do you enjoy sleeping alone? Hmm? I mean, I see that things are not going very well with Samantha.

EJ: [Laughing] No, of course not.

Sami: Ow. No, it's just you looked like such a natural.

EJ: Oh, please. I've never been a waiter before.

Sami: Yeah, but you've had some sort of experience, I could tell.

EJ: [Chuckles]

Sami: [Grunts, sighs]

EJ: Oh, my goodness. You mean when I feed the kids? I tell you something. Getting to those back tables was like cornering a car.

Sami: Except with a tray full of champagne glasses on it, and you didn't spill a drop.

EJ: Well, there are some skills you never forget.

Sami: Yes, like, um, riding a bike. [Sighs] I, um--I have a lot of work to do tomorrow, and I-I have to get some sleep. Good night.

EJ: [Sighs] Happy New Year. Samantha and I are really none of your business, Father.

Stefano: Ah, good. Yes, of course. Well... [Clears throat] I mean, you really are... you have a lot of patience about this stuff, I must say. You know, who knows? Maybe in, uh, how many years, she may even invite you into her bed. You might even get married by the time Giovanni graduates high school.

EJ: I love how you butt out.

Stefano: You know, if there was only some way that you could make her realize how foolish she is...

Kate: Oh, so you need a favor. That's why you led with charm.

Sami: You know what? I really wish I didn't have to leave town right now, but it is business that can't wait.

Kate: Okay, well, everyone on the street knows that Kristen left you with a mess on your hands. So you need a little help, Sami?

Sami: [Scoffs] Please. There's only one reason that you and I are even speaking. And that's what this is about.

Kate: [Scoffs] What happened with Gabi? Don't tell me that she opened her mouth again?

Sami: No, no. She hasn't, she hasn't, okay? But that's what I'm worried about. I need you to keep an eye on Gabi and the boys, okay? Just keep them in line and make sure that Nick's... death stays a secret.

Sonny: Will! Where are you? Oh, no.

Birdwatcher: My apologies. I didn't mean to disturb your reverie, young man.

Will: That's okay.

Birdwatcher: Mesmerizing, isn't it-- the never-ending flow? I like to come down here myself and watch. I love to watch.

Will: Uh, you love to watch what?

Birdwatcher: The Progne subis. But, of course, they winter in Brazil.

Will: Of course.

Birdwatcher: In fact, most of the usual suspects are out of town, so to speak. And so one finds oneself looking at some very odd things instead. It's a tricky time of year here on the river... so cold... and so lethal.

Will: [Sighs] Lethal, huh? How is it, uh--how is it lethal?

Birdwatcher: Well, take a look at the water. See this calm spot down here? Looks like a good place where one could rest one's oars, doesn't it? But that eddy is caused by an obstruction. Something is stuck down there. It's catching everything that flows past, creating a wicked current.

Will: And you can tell that?

Birdwatcher: Oh, yes. Any seasoned woodsman would be able to look at that spot and know something's afoot. In fact, I once saw an innocent fall prey to the power of this river in this exact spot. I watched as a Sciurus carolinensis climbed out to the edge of that branch, lose his footing and fall to his death. I wouldn't be surprised if he were still down at the bottom of this river. In fact, heaven knows what else one might find if we--

Sonny: Will! Will. There you are.

Birdwatcher: Ah!

Will: Hi.

Birdwatcher: Of course. Now I remember you. It all comes clear to me now.

Rafe: Would you stop that?

Gabi: I don't mind.

Rafe: No. It was a joke, a bad joke.

Gabi: What was?

Rafe: The thing about Nick, okay? I'm sorry. I do not have my touch these days.

Gabi: [Scoffs] No kidding. Putting a t-shirt in an expensive box to give to your would-be--

Rafe: No, that--that was genius, actually.

Gabi: Oh, please, yeah?

Rafe: Yeah.

Gabi: No, it wasn't.

Rafe: Yeah, it was. Actually, she loved it... I mean, once she stopped yelling and opened it. But... I'm wearing her down.

Gabi: Oh, that's attractive.

Rafe: [Laughs]

Gabi: Yeah, very attractive.

Rafe: What I mean is, uh... she's opening up to me... a little.

Gabi: Okay, now you make it sound like pulling teeth.

Rafe: Some days. Some days. Man, I just wish I knew why she is so guarded.

Jordan: Uh-oh. What exactly have you heard about me?

Lucas: Well, I know Rafe. And Kate Roberts is my mother.

Jordan: Oh.

Lucas: And they both rave about what a great physical therapist you are.

Jordan: Oh, well, actually, I'm not Rafe's P.T. anymore.

Lucas: No? Really? Well, that--that's great. Maybe you could help me out. I got this trick shoulder I'm always trying to work out. You can maybe fit me in your schedule?

Abigail: [Clears throat] We should definitely go ice-skating. That would be so much fun. I'm sorry we haven't had any snow yet, but you will absolutely love it.

Jordan: Yeah.

Lucas: She's never seen snow? Never?

Jordan: Well, I have, but it's been a while. I came from Birmingham.

Lucas: Is it a temporary thing, or do you plan on staying in Salem long?

Jordan: I'm thinking about it.

Abigail: Well, we should definitely get together. That would be so fun.

Jordan: Yeah, I'd like that. Call or text me anytime.

Abigail: Okay, I will.

Lucas: Okay.

Abigail: Bye.

Lucas: Bye.

Abigail: She's nice, yeah?

Lucas: [Sighs] Yeah.

Abigail: [Chuckles]

Kate: So... why don't you ask EJ? He certainly was in charge yesterday. Why don't you have him handle things?

Sami: Really? Is this too much to ask, for you to just spend a little time with Gabi and--and the boys? I mean, I thought you all had bonded so much.

Kate: Well, we certainly have--all the more reason that you should want EJ to be in the middle of things... unless, of course, he doesn't know that you're going.

Sami: He knows... that I'm in charge of this division and that this has to be handled.

Kate: Really? I mean, do you think you can just go like that? Do you have any idea of who you're dealing with?

Sami: Oh, really? You're gonna tell me about my fiancé?

Kate: Yes. Yes, because I know DiMera men. And once you told EJ about Nick's death, you handed over your power to him. He owns you now.

Sami: No one is in charge of me.

Kate: Really? He's calling the shots, because that's the way they work.

Sami: We're not talking about me anymore, are we? We're talking about you and Stefano. You were an idiot, Kate. You have only yourself to blame. You're the one who let yourself get on Stefano's leash, by giving him all that inf--

Kate: Ah, don't worry. They'll get you a really beautiful collar, probably with diamonds and studs.

Sami: Shut up.

Kate: When's the wedding?

Sami: We haven't set a date.

Kate: Oh, well, that will change. Get ready to say yes to a wedding dress.

Sami: [Scoffs] You don't know what you're talking about.

Kate: EJ is going to set the wedding date, and there's nothing that you can do about it.

Sami: EJ is not going to blackmail me into marrying him.

Kate: Really? That's exactly how I became Mrs. Stefano DiMera.

Stefano: If you only had some leverage.

EJ: [Sighing] Oh, Father, Samantha and I are going to be married. I just have to wait out this unholy firestorm that Kristen set off when she slept with Eric.

Stefano: Well, you know, I still have evidence against William. I'll give it to you as an early wedding present.

EJ: [Chuckles] I'll take that.

Stefano: Use it.

EJ: I'm not gonna blackmail Samantha into marrying me, Father. That would be absurd.

Stefano: Look. If she thinks she can jerk you around now, she'll just keep on doing it, just like she's been doing for the last seven years. You can't let a woman like that have the upper hand.

EJ: Father, I don't want a hostage.

Stefano: Why? It could be entertaining.

EJ: [Chuckles] You mean like Kate was for you?

Stefano: Well, she finally fell in love with me.

EJ: That's not my problem. Samantha is in love with me, Father.

[Cell phone rings]

EJ: My problem is the same problem it's always been, which is this family. And that is not going to change. Hello. EJ DiMera. I don't have a flight plan. I'm not taking the jet anywhere. No, neither is my father. Now, you listen to me very clearly. My fiancée is not authorized to take that jet anywhere, you understand? So you stay on that runway until you get confirmation from one of the two of us. [Bangs on table]

Stefano: Good. It's a start.

Rafe: Life is definitely getting better.

Gabi: Yeah?

Rafe: Yeah.

Gabi: Okay.

Rafe: In fact, Jordan's on her way over here right now.

Gabi: Oh.

Rafe: Yeah.

Gabi: Watch out.

Rafe: First time--

[Both laugh]

Rafe: That's the first time I've seen her since the, uh, Christmas-present fiasco.

Gabi: Wait. Did you spend New Year's here alone?

Rafe: Yeah, I did.

Gabi: Rafe.

Rafe: No, no, no. It was totally cool. Hope came by. She brought me some of my old case files, which I would have never finished until May, but it was good.

Gabi: Okay.

Rafe: Yeah. How about you? Did you have a good New Year's?

Gabi: That was the coat I was wearing the night that I killed Nick. Oh! Quiet, boring. Just...

Kate: EJ will always be Stefano's son. And he will always have something to prove to the old man. And number one on that list is that he can handle his woman.

Sami: [Scoffs] God, I feel like I just woke up in 1950.

Kate: Oh, Sami, just listen to me. I'm trying to do you a favor here.

Sami: No, you're feeding me a load of...

Kate: EJ is a DiMera, and he'll do whatever it takes to get what he wants. And God help him, he wants you. And now thanks to your big mouth, he has you exactly where he wants you. And until you realize that, you have no chance.

Sami: Okay. Stop it, all right? I am just here to ask you to help me. While I am gone, can you please just look after Will and Sonny and Gabi and keep them quiet?

Kate: Fine. I'll do it. I'll do it. But you're not going anywhere. Get used to that.

Will: Well, I'm not sure what you think is clear, but I--

Sonny: He was Santa Claus at the Horton Town Square, remember?

Will: You--

Birdwatcher: Well, actually, I was a poor stand-in. The only lists I mind well are those of the indigenous flora and fauna. But you two gentlemen were with that lovely baby girl and two of those charming ladies that I met out here around Thanksgiving.

Sonny: You met Gabi and Kate here?

Birdwatcher: Well, not this exact spot. It was over there a bit, along with their feisty blond friend. She thought she had me fooled, but I saw through her purpose straight away.

Sonny: What purpose?

Birdwatcher: Oh, no, mum's the word. The ladies asked for my discretion, and I promised it. So I will take their secret to my grave.

[Cell phone rings]

Kate: [Sighs] Oh, my God, get over it. Hey, honey.

Lucas: What? Bad news?

Kate: No. No, everything's good now.

Lucas: Well, good. I'm glad.

Kate: Okay. So what's with the look?

Lucas: What? I just met Jordan Ridgeway.

Kate: And?

Lucas: And you're right. She is beautiful.

Kate: [Sighs]

Rafe: [Sniffs] [Grunts] Damn it. Ay.

[Knock on door]

Rafe: [Sighs] Perfect. Come in! Hey.

Jordan: I, uh... [Clears throat] I brought you a double espresso.

Rafe: Oh, cool. I could use a pick-me-up.

[Water rushing]

Birdwatcher: You're shaking, young man.

Sonny: Oh, yeah. He, uh, forgot his heavy coat. That's why I came to find you.

Will: Yeah, how did you find me, by the way? How'd you know where I was?

Sonny: You took your boots.

Birdwatcher: That is excellent deductive reasoning. You should be a detective. Well, adieu, young friends. A brisk hike awaits me over those downs. Until we meet again.

Will: [Sighs] Yeah. He knows.

[Cell phone rings]

EJ: Ignore? Really?

Sami: No, it's just that I have a lot of things to do, EJ. I'm late.

EJ: Really? Whereabouts is it you're going, Samantha?

Sami: Oh, God. The campaign for the summer line is a hot mess, thanks to your hot mess of a sister, so I am meeting with all the agencies in Chicago. We're gonna get it sorted out so that we don't miss another deadline.

EJ: Well, that sounds like quite an important meeting. You didn't think that maybe you should mention that to me?

Sami: No. I didn't want to bother you. You have a lot of things going on yourself.

EJ: You wouldn't be bothering me. I actually thought business was one of the few things that we could talk about until now.

Sami: Well, EJ, I'm not having some sort of plot against you, okay? I'm just trying to do my job and batting cleanup.

EJ: I thought batting cleanup was my job, especially when it came to covering up your half-assed criminal activities.

Sami: What is that?

EJ: This? This, Samantha, is the proof that you were involved in Nick Fallon's murder.

Sonny: Will, he doesn't know anything. Don't jump to conclusions.

Will: You weren't here when he was talking about eddies in the water and all the strange stuff you see down here and the-- whatever! And the--how lethal the--

Sonny: Did he mention anything about murder? Did he?

Will: Not explicitly, no.

Sonny: Okay, that's because nobody knows, and they won't. So let's just go home. You're freezing. Come on.

Will: I don't want to. Is this where they did it? Is this exactly where they-- they put him in?

Sonny: I don't know. I don't know.

Will: What do you think happens first? Do you freeze first, or do you drown first?

Sonny: I don't know, Will.

Will: Did he deserve to die? Yeah, he was, um, you know, a terrible person, and he said terrible things to you, and he tried to steal my daughter. He tried to--I mean, he threatened to send my whole family to prison. I mean, he tried to rape Gabi, right? Did he deserve to die?

Sonny: No.

Will: Then how do we--then what do we do, then? How do we move on with our lives like nothing happened?

Gabi: I'm so sorry I'm late to my own lunch. I had to stop and see Rafe.

Abigail: Oh, that's okay. How's Rafe doing?

Gabi: Great. Still crushing on his physical-- well, ex-physical therapist.

Abigail: [Laughs] Jordan.

Gabi: Yeah. Wait. You've spent more time with her than I have. What--what do you think about her?

Jordan: So...

Rafe: So...

Jordan: You gonna tell me why we're sitting on the floor? What happened?

Rafe: [Sighs] Well, I was having a great session with Pete. I really was. In fact, I went the entire length of this, twice. I was good. And then I came out of the shower, and my left leg just-- just went.

Jordan: [Clicks tongue] Oh, no.

Rafe: Do you think it's serious?

Jordan: Yeah. I think you're seriously a fool.

Kate: So what--were you waiting around just to ruin my day?

Lucas: Come on, what does Jordan matter to you? She's not working on Rafe anymore, right?

Kate: [Sighs]

Lucas: Or are they together? Are you telling me they're a couple now?

Kate: Well, it looks that way.

Lucas: And that's why she's gonna stay in Salem. Of course.

Kate: I suppose so.

Lucas: And your detective couldn't dig up any dirt on her?

Kate: Oh, now, I didn't say that.

Lucas: Care to share?

Kate: [Sighs]

Abigail: I don't know her that well, but she seems nice.

Gabi: I hope so.

Abigail: Okay, so talk to me. What's going on with you?

Gabi: Okay, well, I want to talk to you about something, something big.

Abigail: Ooh, okay. What is it?

Gabi: We're gonna christen Arianna soon...

Abigail: Aw.

Gabi: And Will and I have been talking about it, and we would love if you agreed...

Abigail: [Gasps]

Gabi: To be Arianna's godmother.

Abigail: Yes! Oh, my God, yes, yes, yes, of course! Thank you!

[Cell phone ringing]

Abigail: Oh--oh, my God, Gabi, I would be honored. Sorry.

Gabi: What's up?

Abigail: Oh, nothing. Just thought it was a text from Nick.

Sami: What...? Where--I--

EJ: Well, "What," I would imagine hair, fiber, DNA. I haven't had a chance to go through the entire envelope yet. "Where," the riverbank, Samantha. I told you I'd have a team of my cleaners come down and scour the entire area. They removed every trace, every scrap of any evidence that would implicate you and your coconspirators in Nick Fallon's murder. You were, to say the least, incredibly sloppy, Samantha.

Sami: Oh, EJ--

EJ: Even those idiots at the Salem Police Department would have had no problem implicating you in that homicide.

Sami: Well, we weren't exact-- thank you.

EJ: [Grunts]

Sami: What are you doing with that?

Jordan: [Sighs] You need to have as much sense as your little niece, okay?

Rafe: Yeah, okay, sure. Whatever that means.

Jordan: You watch when she starts to walk. She'll take a few steps, and then, boom, she'll hit the floor, because she's done. She's had enough.

Rafe: She's also a toddler, okay?

Jordan: Okay, fine. Think of a marathon runner. When they hit the wall--

Rafe: Well, yeah, after 26 miles.

Jordan: This room is 26 miles for you. You have to listen to your body.

Rafe: Yeah, well, you're not the boss of me anymore.

Jordan: All right, fine. Fine. You're right. Don't listen to me.

Rafe: Wa--wa--hold on. All right, just give me a break, will you? You know I don't like to take anything slow.

Kate: [Sighs]

Lucas: You said you were moving on from Rafe.

Kate: I have, but I'm the one who introduced Ms. Ridgeway to him, and I just don't want to see him hurt.

Lucas: Do you have any reason to think that she would hurt him like that?

Kate: Okay, look, I need you to conduct an interview today for the company. Someone's coming in, if there aren't any delays, so, um...

Lucas: Why? Where are they from?

Kate: Birmingham.

Lucas: Birmingham.

Kate: Mm-hmm.

Lucas: Same place Jordan Ridgeway is from. What a coincidence.

Kate: Yeah.

Jordan: [Giggles softly]

Rafe: What's wrong?

Jordan: [Chuckles]

Rafe: Okay, you see, you do that, I'm gonna have to ignore your advice and get up.

Jordan: [Sighs] Did you really fall, or was this a setup?

Rafe: Oh, trust me, I don't think you finding me on the floor, unable to walk would be my best move.

Jordan: Well...

Rafe: Oh.

Jordan: Can you get dressed on your own?

Rafe: I don't know. I think I'm gonna need a lot of help.

Abigail: I mean, I know Nick is busy and all, but, God, seriously, he is, like, the worst. I must have texted him, like, ten times in the last week and, still, nothing. Have you heard from him at all?

Gabi: Mm-mm, no.

Abigail: Hmm. It's so strange. He didn't send a gift for the baby or a card or anything?

Gabi: No.

Abigail: Huh.

Gabi: [Breathing heavily]

Nick: Unh!

[All screaming]

Nick: Gabi, no! No, help!

Sami: Oh, my God!

Gabi: I, uh--I don't expect to hear from Nick again.

Will: The thing is that Nick is my family, right? And my family thinks he's in New York starting a new life.

Sonny: I know. But what else are we gonna do? Nick is dead. It's not gonna help him if we tell the truth.

Will: What if they find his body in there?

Sonny: Then it's gonna be a lot harder to keep Kate, Sami, and Gabi out of it.

Will: Exactly. That's my main concern. That's the thing that's gonna make this worse.

Sonny: You don't have to worry about it because EJ is on it. He is very good at his job, and he will make sure that your mom and everyone else is safe.

EJ: Uh, I'm not doing anything with this.

Sami: But you kept it?

EJ: Well, we wouldn't want it falling into the wrong hands, would we?

Sami: No, but we could destroy it. We could throw it in the fireplace.

EJ: We could.

Sami: Okay. Well, I'm late.

EJ: I wouldn't hurry if I were you. The, uh--the jet isn't going anywhere without my authorization.

Sami: Your authorization? I am your fiancée.

EJ: Are you?

Sami: And I am also the head of this division. I am doing a job you asked me to do. I can't believe I'm standing here negotiating this with you.

EJ: We both find ourselves in pretty unbelievable spots, don't we, Samantha? Having to negotiate things that used to be a given when we were truly together, when we were truly in love, and when we--

Sami: When we trusted each other? Because that's sort of the sticking point for me, EJ. My brother was drugged and raped by your sister, and you didn't tell me about it!

EJ: No.

Sami: It happened.

EJ: You cannot keep using something my sister did, something I had no control over, to justify what you're doing to me.

Sami: What I am doing to you?

EJ: You have frozen me right out! You expect me to come crawling back, God knows to where, because you won't tell me what it will actually take to satisfy you and prove that I'm worthy again.

Sami: Trustworthy.

EJ: You trust me to clean up your mess, don't you? Oh, I'm very useful when it comes to sweeping up after you.

Sami: Okay. Okay, EJ... I appreciate you helping me with this terrible situation, and if I haven't said that enough, I am sorry.

EJ: Don't you dare handle me! I see you coming a mile away, Samantha.

Sami: I don't know what you want from me, then!

EJ: The hell you don't!

Sami: Then tell me the truth.

EJ: I have! How about you return the favor for once?

Sami: What?

EJ: Answer me this question. Do you want to marry me or not?

Jordan: [Sighs]

Rafe: Wh--what are you doing?

Jordan: Calling Pete Clarke, so he can help you get dressed.

Kate: Detective Ortiz found a friend of Jordan's from Birmingham, so maybe now we'll get some answers.

Lucas: [Sighs] To what?

Kate: To why she acts like a fugitive, to why she's so secretive.

Lucas: Maybe she's just private.

Kate: Yeah? Well, if that's true, I'll back off.

Lucas: Really?

Kate: Mm-hmm.

Lucas: And you're gonna let Jordan and Rafe just walk into the sunset together?

Jordan: Wow. That was some impressive movement.

Rafe: We do not need Pete. We can handle this.

Jordan: Yeah?

Rafe: Yeah.

Jordan: You need to--

Rafe: To what, listen to my body? I am. What about you, hmm? What's your body telling you?
