[Door shuts]

Abigail: I really need to talk to you.

Chad: I can't, not right now, okay? They just called. Sami's trial just started. I'm going there right now to testify.

Abigail: Oh, my God. What an awful day.

Chad: Look, I got a text from Sonny. He and will... they both got called in for today.

Melinda: And am I correct that you knew about the video of your mother attacking the victim detective Bernardi?

Will: [Softly] Yeah, but...

Melinda: I'm sorry, I didn't hear you.

Will: Yes, I knew about the video.

Melinda: And given the incriminating nature of the video, you lied to police, covering up that the video even existed.

Justin: Objection. Argumentative.

Judge Sims: Nice try, Mr. Kiriakis. Answer the question, son.

Will: No, I did not tell anybody about the video.

Melinda: In point of fact, you lied under oath. But with good reason, of course. You were trying to help your mother cover up the fact that she murdered detective Bernardi.

Justin: Objection.

Melinda: Just like three years ago, when you helped her cover up the fact that she shot EJ DiMera in the head.

Justin: Your honor!

Melinda: Your honor, I'm establishing a pattern here. The defendant has a history of trying to solve her problems with a gun and getting the witness here to lie about it, to aid and abet, to obstruct justice. But you and your mother aren't getting away with it this time. This time, you're going straight to prison.

Judge Sims: Guard, escort the witness to a holding cell.

Sami: What? No! No! You can't do that!

Will: I'm sorry, mom.

Sami: Will, no.

Sonny: Will.

Move it.

Sonny: Will. Will, hey, wake up. Will, wake up, you're having a nightmare. Hey, you're having a nightmare. It's okay.

Will: Oh, my God. That was awful.

Sonny: Look, it was just a dream. Whatever it was is not going to happen.

Will: Well, I hope not.

Judge Sims: Today's docket?

The state versus Samantha Brady, for the murder of detective Joseph Bernardi.

[Gavel bangs]

Brady: I know you think you know Eric better than anyone in the world, but he's my brother.

Nicole: He's your brother, but he's not crazy. He is not gonna marry you and Kristen DiMera.

Brady: Well, I happen to think he will. And give us his blessing.

Eric: There's something else that we need to talk about.

Kristen: Yes, this pre-cana thing?

Eric: Brady told you about that?

Kristen: Yeah. And I would really like it if you would tell him that you thought it over and that the answer is no.

Eric: You want me to tell my brother that I won't let you take pre-cana counseling at St. Luke's, and I won't be the one to marry you?

Kristen: Exactly.

Eric: Are your objections on any religious grounds?

Kristen: [Laughs] No. My objections are personal.

Will: The look on my mom's face as I was being led away was the worst part.

Sonny: Yeah, well, that's a crappy dream, but it's just a dream. It's not an omen.

Will: Where's Gabi? Isn't she supposed to be back with Ari by now?

Sonny: Yeah, and I talked to her, and everything's under control.

Will: Okay, I find that hard to believe.

Sonny: Well, child care-wise, everything's under control. [Sighs] Look, I don't want to testify against your mom either.

Will: My guess is that before you met me, you never needed immunity from prosecution.

Sonny: Yeah, no, that's true. I mean, before you were in my life, it was perfect, and then you came along and screwed everything up.

Will: Thanks.

Sonny: Everything is gonna be okay. I promise you we're gonna get through this together. And you look fantastic.

Will: Thanks. Well, when this is over, I'm never lying for my mom again. I'll only lie for you. I hate secrets.

Melinda: I will prove that the defendant lied and continues to lie. I will prove that she had the motive, means and opportunity to murder detective Bernardi. Murder, ladies and gentlemen. That is what we are talking about in this case. She murdered Marge Bernardi's husband. She murdered Timmy Bernardi's father, a decorated hero of the Salem police department. She took a sacred human life. And for that, she must pay.

Justin: So we hear the prosecutor say my client Samantha Brady lies. But here's what she didn't say: That Samantha Brady is stupid. Because she's not. No, she's far from it. So if, indeed, Samantha Brady is not stupid, why in the world would she shoot a man in a hospital room, knowing there was no viable means of escape? Because she had to. She had no choice. She had to stop Bernardi right then and there. And why would she say that Bernardi was holding a razor, if he wasn't? Why would she make up something like that unless she knew that it could be corroborated? Why not just say that Bernardi was choking detective Hernandez or smothering him? I mean, why invent a fictitious weapon? She said so, ladies and gentlemen, because it's the truth. And every time you ask yourself "why?" During the course of this trial, the only answer is that Samantha Brady is telling the truth.

Chad: So what is it? What's wrong?

Abigail: I'm fine. And you're gonna be fine. The important thing is that the lawyer got you immunity.

Chad: Yeah, I just hate doing this to will's mom. He's so worried about her and his little brother and sisters and--

Abigail: Hey, Chad. You did everything that you could to avoid this. So maybe now the best thing that you can do is just get it over with.

Chad: And get on with our lives, right? I'll text you later. Tell me what's wrong then, okay?

Abigail: Okay.

Nicole: The whole world, with the exception of you, of course, knows that Kristen DiMera is crazy. She's a whack job, out there where the buses don't run.

Brady: And you are the poster child for mental health, right?

Nicole: And apparently it's contagious, because you're just as crazy as she is now. [Sighs] [Softly] After everything that she has done to your family, you really wanna do this whole death-till-you-part thing? You do know that Kristen sees death as a viable alternative to divorce?

Brady: I'm glad convent life has mellowed you out, Nicole.

Nicole: I just have to accept the fact that she's got her hooks in you. But Eric? Why would Eric wanna marry the two of you? Why? I can just imagine how she got this sicko idea--

Brady: It wasn't her idea. It was my idea.

Eric: Okay. Just FYI... guys like me aren't supposed to lie.

Kristen: Well, that's good, because I'm not asking you to lie.

Eric: Yes, you are, and it's not even for a good reason. Why don't you just tell Brady you don't wanna do this?

Kristen: Look, he asked you before he talked to me.

Eric: Another good reason to turn down this idea.

Kristen: But I'm not asking you to lie, okay? It's to spare Brady's feelings. This whole pre-cana wedding thing can't happen. It would just be a whole lot easier if it came from you.

Abigail: Wh--Cameron, please don't go.

Cameron: Uh, is, uh, everything okay with Chad? He--he seemed upset.

Abigail: Yeah, wouldn't you be too, if you were going through everything that he was going through?

Cameron: [Sighs] Now tell me, what did your doctor have to say?

Chad: No one else can know about this. Not my family, not Abigail, not will or Sonny.

Cameron: Why?

Chad: Because I don't want anyone's pity. That's why.

Cameron: You mean--

Chad: You were right about the brain tumor. Turns out I'm dying.

Cameron: So he finally told you the truth?

Abigail: The truth?

Melinda: The state calls Chad DiMera.

EJ: Justin, why are they calling Chad? Why aren't they calling Abe or hope or somebody who could testify that...

Sami: That I knew Bernardi and I was lying about it?

Justin: No, she doesn't wanna call anyone who might open the door to the money that was found in Bernardi's son's account.

Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?

Chad: I do.

Melinda: The state would like to introduce exhibit "A." Mr. DiMera, did you record a video of Samantha Brady on may 7th of this year?

Chad: Yes.

Melinda: And can you tell us who else is in the video?

Chad: Detective Bernardi.

Melinda: Again, Mr. DiMera, so the jury can hear you.

Chad: Detective Bernardi.

Melinda: Thank you. Your honor, I request permission to play this video, to show the jury what happened weeks before detective Bernardi's murder.

Nicole: You want Eric to marry you and Kristen. This was your idea.

Brady: Yeah, yeah.

Nicole: Okay, wait. What?

Brady: What? What?

Nicole: What is wrong with you?

Brady: You know, I forgot. I'm being a friend here. And I told you the truth. But you're not being a friend, Nicole. You're the president and founder of the Kristen DiMera defamation committee, and I'm sick of it.

Nicole: No, no. I am your friend, and I just want what's best for you, and that's to not marry that woman.

Brady: I don't want to hear it anymore!

Nicole: Okay, all right. Let's just take Kristen out of the equation, okay?

Brady: Fine.

Nicole: What about Eric? Think about what this would do to him. You're asking Eric to marry you to the woman who tried to kill his mother.

Brady: Don't think that that hasn't slipped my mind, all right. We're all trying to move on here.

Nicole: Fine, then move on. Okay, marry--marry her. Just leave Eric out of this. Don't put him in a position where he has to say no to you.

Brady: Nicole, you know what? I already asked him.

Nicole: Oh, you did?

Brady: Yeah.

Nicole: Oh, well, then how did it feel to have your brother the priest laugh in your face?

Brady: He didn't laugh in my face. As a matter of fact, he's thinking about it. And for your information, Kristen is the problem. She's the one that has the issues with this. And they're talking about it right now as we speak.

Eric: I'm not gonna sin to smooth your path.

Kristen: Come on, father. I'm not asking you to knock over a bank.

Eric: Why are you so against the idea? I mean, it seems to me that you'd want me to be backing you up.

Kristen: [Slaps Eric gently] I just think that the less time you and I spend together, the better it will be. For Brady, for me, and for you. Ng we are Flintstones kids

Cameron: Well, I'm glad he finally told you.

Abigail: What do you mean "finally"? He tells me everything. He's told me everything from the very beginning.

Cameron: Really?

Abigail: Yes. He doesn't want to testify against will's mom, but we knew that we had to go to court sometime.

Cameron: [Sighs] The trial, yeah.

Abigail: Yes, the trial. I really don't need you giving me trouble about Chad right now, okay? Not now.

Cameron: Abigail, what's wrong?

Abigail: Chad tried really hard to keep me out of this whole video thing. Why is everything so screwed up all the time?

Cameron: Okay, what is wrong?

Abigail: I should probably just tell you anyway. It's gonna be all over the paper, and I can't really keep it a secret. JJ...

Cameron: What about JJ?

Abigail: I just--I feel like I don't even know him anymore.

Melinda: Nicely done, Mr. Scorsese.

Justin: Your honor.

Judge Sims: Watch it, ms. Trask.

Melinda: Sorry. Mr. DiMera, you made that video on your phone, didn't you?

Chad: Yes.

Melinda: Can you explain why you didn't come forward when ms. Brady was first charged? Let me remind you that you lose your immunity if you lie under oath.

Chad: Well, it sort of made ms. Brady look... I mean, it made it clear she knew the guy.

Melinda: You had to stop yourself from saying "guilty" just now, right?

Justin: Your honor.

Judge Sims: Watch it, ms. Trask, and I mean it.

Melinda: Mr. DiMera, did your brother, ms. Brady's fiancé, know about the video as well?

Chad: Yes.

Melinda: What did he advise you to do?

Chad: Leave it alone.

Melinda: In other words, he advised you not to go to police. Is that correct?

Chad: Yes.

Melinda: How would you describe ms. Brady's demeanor during the attack?

Justin: Your honor.

Melinda: In your judgment, Mr. DiMera, since you witnessed it in person. We need to make sure the camera didn't lie.

Judge Sims: Answer the question.

Chad: She was...angry.

Melinda: Mm, just one more question, Mr. DiMera. Why did you take this video?

Chad: I thought it was funny.

Melinda: Now that the man she attacked in the video is dead, do you still think it's funny?

Justin: Your honor.

Melinda: Withdrawn. I have no more questions for this witness.

Judge Sims: Mr. Kiriakis?

Justin: I have no questions for this witness at this time.

Judge Sims: Witness is dismissed. [Bangs gavel]

Sami: [Whispering] Why didn't you cross-examine him?

Justin: Because anything Chad says would only dig you in deeper.

Sonny: 12-year-old fishing magazine. St the thing to pass the time. Hey, I'm not trying to be insensitive.

Will: I know.

Sonny: You know that, okay? I'm just trying to distract you, so you don't implode. So...[Inhales, exhales] Take a deep breath.

Will: I will.

Sonny: Everything's gonna be okay.

Will: This is my fault though, I think.

Sonny: Here we go again.

Will: No, listen to me. Listen to me. If I hadn't have slept with Gabi, then she wouldn't be pregnant, the wedding wouldn't have blown up, my mom wouldn't have broken up with Rafe, right? Rafe wouldn't have had sex with grandma, and then Stefano wouldn't have come after Rafe.

Sonny: I-I think you could make prop 8 your fault.

Will: I'm being serious.

Sonny: I don't think you see that that chain of thoughts-- it's a little egocentric. All the choices that your mother and Rafe and Stefano and Kate-- it doesn't matter. Just that you slept with Gabi.

Will: I'm not--

Sonny: Okay, but think about the choices we've made, and where those choices have led us. We get to go to bed every night together. And we get to wake up and take care of that beautiful baby girl. And for the record, if we could rewind and I could go back and stop you from sleeping with Gabi, I wouldn't. I wouldn't, because I would lose too much that I love if that hadn't happened.

[Door opens]

Sonny: Here, there's a great article on creels. I think you're gonna love it. I'll see you in a little bit.

Will: Grandma Sami's gonna be here any minute, okay, sweetheart? Okay. We should really come here me.

Sonny: We come here as often as we can, will.

Will: I know, it's not enough.

[Door opens]

Sami: There you are.

Will: Hey.

Sami: Bless you for coming.

Will: Hey! Mom, what happened?

Sami: I'm so happy to see you. And you. Hi, sweetheart. Did you miss me? I missed you so much. I missed you all. More than you know.

Sonny: All right, come on. Let's go sit down for a second, okay?

Will: What are these bruises? What are they doing to you?

Sami: Hey, will. No matter what happens, this is not your fault. And I want you to promise that you won't feel guilty. You have nothing to feel--

Will: Wait, what do you mean, "no matter what happens"?

Sami: [Whispering] I can't spend the rest of my life like this. I just can't.

Nicole: Okay, well, that's a good thing. Because as soon as Kristen opens her lying, hypocritical mouth, Eric will realize what a phony, selfish, destructive bitch she is.

Brady: Yeah, what could be more selfish and destructive than establishing a scholarship fund for kids?

Nicole: Oh, please. That's just a protective covering. Writing a check, it--that's not giving back, it's buying goodwill. [Sighs] Brady, I am your friend...

Brady: Are you my friend?

Nicole: Yes, we are.

Bra: Are you sure about that?

Nicole: I don't want to see Kristen hurt you again. [Sighs] Okay, let's--let's switch gears here. Please think about what you're doing to Eric. What kind of brother would put his own brother, a priest, who does everything for everyone else, in an impossible position?

Brady: I'm so over this.

Nicole: No, I'm not gonna let you do this.

Brady: This is not your call!

Nicole: Yes, it is!

Brady: This is not your business! Back off!

Eric: You know, I don't understand why you'd want to spend less time together. I thought we'd be working quite well together on the scholarship program.

Kristen: We have been! We have been. But, you know, contrary to most people's opinions, I'm not always completely selfish. I do consider other people's feelings. And how do you think Marlena felt when she found out that Brady and I were engaged again? I have been afraid to ask how she took the news that you and I were working together.

Eric: We've had better conversations.

Kristen: Exactly. So you marrying Brady and me would only cause more pain and upset.

Eric: [Sighs]

Kristen: Frankly, I'm stunned you didn't shut him down when he initially proposed it.

Eric: It crossed my mind.

Kristen: So do it now.

Eric: No. If you wanna stop it, it's your choice. But I won't.

Melinda: Is right for you.

Sonny: So help me God.

Melinda: Mr. Kiriakis. Is it all right if I call you "Sonny"? We wouldn't want the jury to get confused between the witness and the counsel for the defense.

Sonny: Sure. You can call me whatever you'd like.

Melinda: Great. Now, Sonny, you, like Mr. DiMera, are testifying today with immunity.

Sonny: Yes.

Melinda: Good thing. Criminal obstruction can result in some pretty severe sentencing.

Sonny: I did not seek immunity. It was arranged without my knowledge.

Melinda: An advantage of having strong ties to the legal community.

Sonny: It was your office that did it, ms. Trask. And I don't have any ties to you.

Melinda: And what is your relationship with Chad DiMera?

Sonny: Business partner.

Melinda: Do you remember what your business partner said to you when he gave you the video?

Sonny: That I should know... what I'm getting into.

Melinda: I don't understand. Why would he warn you like that?

Sonny: Sami Brady is will Horton's mother.

Melinda: And what is your relationship to ms. Brady's son?

Sonny: He's my partner.

Melinda: I thought you just said that Chad DiMera was your partner.

Sonny: Chad DiMera's my business partner. Will is my life partner. My lover.

Melinda: And what instructions did EJ DiMera give you, specifically in terms of your partner will Horton?

Sonny: He didn't want me to tell will about it.

Melinda: So you didn't?

Sonny: No, I did.

Melinda: So because of the video, you knew, when ms. Brady said she didn't know detective Bernardi, that she was lying.

Justin: Objection.

Melinda: Withdrawn. The answer goes without saying. I have no further questions for this witness.

Judge Sims: Your witness, Mr. Kiriakis.

Justin: I just wanna ask you about your reason, or reasons, for not sharing the video.

Melinda: Objection. Beyond the scope.

Judge Sims: You opened the door, ms. Trask. You can answer the question.

Sonny: Because I knew there was no way that will's mom could murder someone. I don't care what's on that video. I knew she was telling the truth when she said she was protecting detective Hernandez.

Justin: Nothing further.

Melinda: Redirect, your honor.

Judge Sims: What a surprise.

Melinda: Sonny, are you saying that ms. Brady has never lied to you or to her son?

Judge Sims: Answer the question, son.

Sonny: No, I'm not saying that.

Melinda: I have nothing further for this witness, your honor.

Judge Sims: You can stand down. [Bangs gavel]

Melinda: The state calls William Horton.

Abigail: So we're trying to get a lawyer for him. But my Uncle Justin is busy with will's mom's case. Oh, Cameron. My brother was dealing drugs. I mean, if he gets the wrong judge, then he could go to prison for years.

Cameron: Abigail, was--was he using?

Abigail: I don't know. I mean, I used to know everything about my brother. And now...I feel like he's a complete stranger to me.

Cameron: Okay, so--so just now, did you talk to Chad about this?

Abigail: No. No, I didn't want to stress him out on his way to court.

Cameron: Yeah, it's too bad. You need somebody to talk to.

Abigail: Yeah, well, I'm talking to you now. And you're being really nice to me, even after everything.

Cameron: Listen, Abigail, we're friends, okay? No matter what. Now can I say something to you, as a friend?

Abigail: Yeah, sure.

Cameron: With all that you're going through, maybe now isn't the best time to get serious about anyone.

Kristen: Why are you being like this? I me, honestly, you've never made it a secret how much you hate Brady and I being together.

Eric: Okay, here it goes. There's a guy who came to me, and he said not only does he want my help, but he wants God's blessing to get his marriage off to a holy start. How am I supposed to say no?

Kristen: I so hate arguing with good people.

Eric: If you and Brady are meant to share a life together, I will not be the one who stands in the way. I'm not just talking about as a couple, but perhaps as a family. Maybe it's God's will for you to be blessed with children of your own someday. You know, from the way I've seen you work with those children here, I think you would make a wonderful mother.

Nicole: Yes, this is my call. Because who else is gonna look out for Eric? Clearly not you. Fine. He-- he is the most selfless, giving, caring man that I have ever met. And if you wanna destroy your life and marry that lunatic, my God, why do you think God created Vegas? Just don't do this to him. He does not need the stress. He is your brother. And he is too good and too kind to say no to you.

Brady: You know what? I've-- I've tried to get through to you. I really have. I've tried to argue with you. I've tried to ignore all the vile things you say about Kristen and me, but no more. I can't do it anymore. I'm sick of listening to you. I'm sick of hearing what you have to say to me. I'm tired of trying to be your friend, Nicole. You think Kristen and I are insane? Why don't you take a good look in the mirror? A deep look into a mirror! You're crazy and obsessed over my brother. Why don't you learn to let him go?

Nicole: Go to hell.

Eric: I think I have finally shut you up. I mean, with God's help, of course. [Laughs]

Kristen: So... you really think I'd make a good mom?

Eric: If God chooses to bless you with children... I do.

Kristen: Okay. So if Brady and I were gonna do this pre-cana thing, I mean, what does it entail?

Nicole: So please think about what you're doing to Eric.

Eric: Hi, this is father Eric Brady. I can't take your call right now, so please leave a message at the tone, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you. Pre-marriage counseling is tailored to the couple. But the three of us, we'd probably meet several times. I'd ask you how you see your lives together.

Kristen: Oh, boy, I bet I'm gonna get a good grilling.

Eric: [Laughs] Well, I'd ask him some very tough questions too.

Kristen: Yeah? Like you'd ask Brady--he'd have to explain what his feelings are for me to you?

Eric: Yeah, that's how it works.

Kristen: Okay, well, let me think about it. And thank you for, you know, making me see beyond my initial objection. You know, it gives me a different perspective. Maybe it could be a good thing.

Eric: He works in mysterious ways.

Kristen: Oh, boy, tell me about it. Anyway, I will be in touch. Anyway, thanks. Bye.

[Door shuts]

Kristen: [Sighs] It's me. I need to see you immediately.

Abigail: Chad. Hey, how did it go?

Chad: It was just about what I expected it to be.

[Cell phone rings]

Abigail: I'm sorry, I really have to get this, but I'll be back.

Chad: Yeah.

Cameron: Well, I should get going.

Cha whoa, whoa, whoa. What the hell are you trying to pull here?

Sonny: It'll be okay.

Will: Okay.

[EJ whispers inaudibly]

Kristen: So I could end up seeing a lot more of Eric, with Brady in the room.

Dr. Chyka: I know what you're worried about, but I assure you, this will make no difference.

Eric: Call me when you get this. And if you talk to her, tell Sami I love her.

[Tense music]

Why does this keep happening to me?

Nicole: Eric. You cannot--you cannot be thinking about marrying Brady and Kristen.

Kristen: I'm sure you know what I'm about to say. You better be right about this, Chyka.

Dr. Chyka: I keep telling you, you have nothing to worry about.

Kristen: Right, just go back to that rock I found you under, okay? Have a nice day. If I get rid of this, I get rid of my one chance of shattering Marlena's complacent little life. But if I get rid of this, maybe I can give myself a chance at a decent, happy life with Brady. Pre-cana counseling? Maybe you do have a sense of humor.

Eric: Let me tell you something, Nicole. You don't get to come in here and tell me about Brady's relationship with Kristen. It's none of your business. And you don't tell me what to do or not to do.

Nicole: I'm just looking out for you.

Eric: No, you're not. You're just doing what's best for you. As usual, you don't care about anyone but yourself. Now would you just leave me alone? [Sighs]

Nicole: [Scoffs]

Chad: I heard what you said to Abigail. About not getting too serious with me. So--so what do you do? You--you pull away from her, but you're still trying to make sure she's just friends with me until I'm out of the picture?

Cameron: Listen, you don't know what she's going through.

Chad: Well, obviously, something's wrong. But you thought it'd be a good idea to take advantage of that?

Cameron: Okay, look, I'm sorry you're sick, okay? But you won't talk to me about your treatment, and you haven't told Abigail anything. Do you really think this is the right time for her to get even closer to you, under these circumstances? Think about that.

Abigail: Is everything okay?

Chad: Yeah.

Melinda: So, will, did your mother ask you to lie for her, to cover up that she knew and hated detective Bernardi, that she had physically attacked him?

Will: No.

Melinda: Mr. Horton, I will remind you that you are under oath.

Will: Well, my mom would not murder anyone, okay? She was trying to protect Rafe.

Judge Sims: Son, you need to answer the question. And refrain from offering your opinion. I'll let it go this time, but if it happens again, I'll have to find you in contempt.

Melinda: Will, did your mother ask you to lie?

Sami: [Mouths]

Will: Um...

Melinda: We need a verbal response, will.

Will: Yeah, mm-hmm. Yeah, she did.

Melinda: Did she ask you to lie to the police?

Will: Yes. She did.

Melinda: Thanks for being honest with us. I have no further questions.

Judge Sims: Mr. Kiriakis?

Justin: I have no questions at this time.

Judge Sims: The witness may step down. [Bangs gavel]

Eric: You know what? No. Kristen and I talked.

Brady: And?

Eric: Well, maybe this counseling-and-marrying-you thing will be a good idea. Kristen said she's gonna think about it.

Eric: Yeah, who knew, right? That Kristen would be the one to bring us closer.

Kristen: So maybe with just a little bit of counseling... I could let go of the past.
