Marlena: Hey, there you are.

John: Good morning.

Marlena: Good morning.

John: I sure didn't expect to wake up all alone in bed this morning.

Marlena: Oh. Sorry. Had a patient emergency. Okay. Shall we get a table?

John: Listen, before we go inside... something I want to talk to you about.

Marlena: Ooh, sounding serious.

John: No. Not necessarily. Um...I ran into Kristen again last night, when I went to see Sami at her office.

Marlena: I know.

John: Sami told you?

Marlena: No. Kristen told me.

Stefano: You know, I wish you'd think about moving back into the mansion. Because it's a shame for it to sit empty.

Kristen: It's not empty. It's full of ghosts. I'm not going into that house again, not until you get back home.

Stefano: Well, I hope that will be soon.

Kristen: So do I.

Stefano: Now, did Mary give you the box with your things?

Kristen: Yes, she did. Was kind of surprised too that you held onto all this stuff for so many years.

Stefano: Mm, you mean despite the differences we may have had.

Kristen: That we did have. We did have.

Stefano: History is important, my dear. It's what binds us forever.

Kristen: For better or worse.

Stefano: I never forgot you, Kristen. I never forget anything.

Kristen: Neither do I.

Victor: Brady. I need a moment.

Brady: Granddad, it's not a good time. The building deal's about to --

Victor: Forget about work.

Brady: Did Victor Kiriakis just tell me to forget about work?

Victor: Yes, I did. Sometimes there are things that are more important.

Brady: Like what?

Victor: Like family. I need your help to save a man's life, or at the very least, his soul.

Dr. Sedwick: She was quite distraught. She had lost a child.

Daniel: What time did you leave town?

Dr. Sedwick: Uh, midday.

Daniel: Then how would you know that Nicole lost her baby? Did somebody tell you?

Dr. Sedwick: Tell me? Dr. Jonas, there must be some confusion. I'm the one who told Nicole Walker her baby was dead.

[Knocks on door]

Cameron: Dr. Jonas? Have you had a chance to look at the autopsy report? Did it confirm what you suspected?

Daniel: Somebody screwed up.

Cameron: Wait. You mean, Nicole's baby could have been saved?

Daniel: No. No. The truth about what happened to that poor child was right in front of us. We missed it. Missed it.

Nicole: [Sighs] Yes.

[Knock on door]

Nicole: [Groans] Jennifer. Daniel's not here.

Jennifer: Actually, I wanted to talk to you.

Nicole: Well, I'm kind of busy.

Jennifer: Yeah, I see that. This won't take long. You see, this is my last chance to find out.

Nicole: Find out what?

Jennifer: What really happened the day you lost your baby. The first thing that I really want to say to you is thank you, because I can't imagine how hard it was to go over that story again and again with the police and then finally tell them that you made a mistake.

Nicole: Yes, it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

Jennifer: Yeah. And again, I am so sorry that it happened, and if I could take it back, Nicole, I would.

Nicole: You know what, Jennifer. I just want to move forward and put this all behind me, okay?

Jennifer: Yes, of course. I want to do the same thing. I want to put it behind me, but I think about it every single day, Nicole, and before you and Daniel leave Salem, there's just something I have to ask you.

Nicole: What?

Jennifer: Everything just happened so fast, and the more I think about it, there's one thing that doesn't make sense to me, and I'm really hoping you can clear it up.

Daniel: Well, based on this report, it's possible that the baby had died before the trauma of Nicole's fall.

Cameron: But the only way to know that with 100% certainly would be if the mother was examined prior to the fall.

Daniel: Yes.

Cameron: Now that the charges against Jennifer have been dropped, does it really matter?

Daniel: Yes, it does matter. In Jennifer's mind, she feels some responsibility for that baby's death, and she ... she deserves to know the truth.

Cameron: So what are you going to do?

Stefano: I will do anything to bring my family back together.

Kristen: Well, I guess so. You've been reaching out to me.

Stefano: Especially reaching out to you.

Kristen: Well, anyway, I better get to get back to work, so I'll be in touch soon.

Stefano: Good. I look forward to good news.

Kristen: 'Kay. Milli Vanilli.

John: When did you see Kristen?

Marlena: I didn't see her. She called me.

John: She called you? Why?

Marlena: Well, she wanted to make sure that I knew that she had been with you, of course.

John: [Lips blubber] Nothing happened.

Marlena: I know. That was the reason she called me, to make sure that the paranoid wife knew that nothing really happened.

John: I see. So you just think she's just trying to get under your skin?

Marlena: Mm-hmm.

John: Did she?

Marlena: Let me ask you this. Do you believe it was a coincidence that you ran into her again?

John: I'm not sure how she would have known.

Marlena: Because she's Kristen DiMera.

John: Yeah, that, and it's a small town.

Marlena: Those are exactly the same words that she used. Did you two work that out?

John: Whoa.

Marlena: Oh, my God, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

Kayla: Hey, hey, hey. Hi, guys.

John: Hey.

Kayla: Um, listen, Marlena. Can I talk to you about staffing your department? I got your request last week, and I -- honestly, I don't have any excuses for why I haven't addressed it earlier.

Marlena: Wow, I don't know why. You're running a business, running the hospital, taking care of Joey, worried about your mother.

Kayla: Well, I guess there is all that.

John: You know what? I've got to run. I got a board meeting at the rectory. Um, I'm sorry. Rain check?

Marlena: Sure.

John: All right, just let me know where you want to take lunch.

Both: Love you.

John: Bye.

Kayla: Bye. Ah, you didn't have breakfast.

Marlena: I'm not so hungry, thanks.

Brady: Daniel's leaving town today? I thought that --

Victor: Yes, we all thought we'd have more time to show him the folly, the sheer idiocy of letting himself be taken in by the likes of Nicole Walker.

Brady: All right. Don't forget who you're talking to, okay?

Victor: Likewise but you and I, at least, did see the light when it came to Nicole. Now we have to help Daniel, before it's too late.

Brady: Does Maggie know that we're having this conversation right now?

Victor: Maggie doesn't want to interfere in the lives of her grown son.

Brady: Mm.

Victor: On the other hand, she never had a chance to be there for him when he was a child. Now it's killing her that he's moving away from his career, his family, everything he cares about. Except Nicole.

Brady: I wish I could say I thought this would end well. I don't, Granddad, I don't Daniel to end up like we did either, but ... he's got his mind made up. If you couldn't change his mind, who could?

Victor: Well, there is something we haven't tried. I should say you haven't tried, because, as of right now, it's all on your shoulders.

Daniel: Uh, Cameron, Cameron. Could you, uh, keep all of this between us?

Cameron: Okay.

Daniel: Just until I put all the pieces together.

Cameron: Of course. I'm sorry, man.

[Phone rings]

Maxine: Fourth floor nurses' station.

Daniel: Nicole, what have you done?

Maxine: Dr. Jonas, Dr. Sedwick's on the line for you.

Daniel: Excellent, thank you.

Maxine: Mm-hmm.

Daniel: Dr. Sedwick, yeah. I appreciate your calling me back. I know it's late.

Dr. Sedwick: No, no. It's actually early here.

Daniel: Okay, well, I won't keep you. I just wanted to ask. I'm having some trouble finding your exam notes from Ms. Walker's visit.

Dr. Sedwick: Oh, yes. As I'm sure you're aware, the hospital's computers were down that day. So I recorded my notes on her chart the old-fashioned way, with pen and paper.

Daniel: Well, the chart's not here.

Dr. Sedwick: Really? Well, that's strange.

Daniel: Yes. So I was hoping that you could fill me in on whatever details you remember.

Dr. Sedwick: You know, actually, I can do even better than that.

Nicole: So you're sorry that I had to relive the agony of that day, but you want me to go over it just one more time.

Jennifer: No. No, of course not. This is about what happened before.

Nicole: What do you mean?

Jennifer: I left a phone message for Daniel. And you must know that.

Nicole: Why do you say that?

Jennifer: Because I think that you played it, and I think you erased it. And that's how you knew I was waiting for Daniel in the town square.

Nicole: Why does that matter?

Jennifer: Nicole, it matters because --

Nicole: Wait a minute. Excuse me, are -- are you saying that it's my fault that I got in your way? It's my fault that I lost my baby?

Kayla: So I'd like to create a staff position that rotates between Psych and Pharm. So if there's a resident that you would like to recommend. Marlena?

Marlena: Sure. Oh, uh, no. I think that Dr. Reynolds is perfect for the job. Thank you.

Kayla: Yeah, I do, too.

Marlena: And she's done some cutting edge work in gerontology so ...

Kayla: Yeah.

Marlena: Gosh, I wish I had been able to do more for Caroline before she went away.

Kayla: Mm-hmm, yeah. We all do. But, you know, hopefully, her, um, her treatment protocol, you know, that she's enrolled in will have promise. And, you know what? I want to be on the forefront of making it more widely available.

Marlena: Good girl. Is there any news at all?

Kayla: Well, Bo said she's doing well, she's, um ... well, there aren't too many side effects or anything. She, um, she fed the sea lions in Monterey. [Giggles]

Marlena: I'll bet she loved that.

Kayla: Yeah, I think she did.

Marlena: [Laughs]

Kayla: That's great, isn't it? Anyway, you know, it's -- it's too too early to know if the treatment's doing anything, helping.

Marlena: Yeah.

Kayla: But thank you for your concern.

Marlena: My concern. Of course. She's family.

Kayla: So are you. I'm worried about you. What are you so distracted about?

Marlena: Oh. Kristen DiMera.

Kayla: What about her?

Marlena: You haven't heard? She's back in town. She's making herself quite at home.

[Knock on door]

[Door opens]

John: Hey, Father Tobias?

Father Tobias: [Chuckles]

John: And here I thought I was late.

Father Tobias: Oh, I'm sorry, John. I guess you didn't get my message.

John: No, I didn't get it.

Father Tobias: Three members of the fundraising committee called me with scheduling conflicts, so I decided to cancel today's meeting. I hate that you both had to waste your time coming down here.

John: Both?

Father Tobias: Well, yes. Oh, there she is. I'd like to introduce you to our newest board member.

Kristen: Oh, well, hello again. [Laughs]

Father Tobias: I take it you two already know each other?

Kristen: Yes. Yeah, we do.

Brady: If you think Daniel's gonna listen to me, think again. I've already tried talking to him. The guy's mind is made up.

Victor: I'm not talking about sitting down to a rational discussion. I mean, obviously, he's well beyond reason.

Brady: What do you want me to do? Kidnap the guy?

Victor: I think we should come at this from a different angle. I already tried approaching Nicole.

Brady: I'm sure that went over very well.

Victor: Well, she thinks she's in love with him. She's so deluded, she couldn't even be bought off.

Brady: Granddad, maybe, maybe-- she's in love with Daniel.

Victor: Oh, please, Nicole wouldn't know what love was if Cupid bit her in the ass.

Brady: [Sighs] What do you want me to do?

Victor: Brady, I wouldn't ask this if the situation weren't so dire. I want you to throw yourself at her, like a soldier in a foxhole with a grenade.

Brady: What?

Victor: It won't take much. I mean, a warm body blinking in her direction. And given the fact that your net worth is ten times that of Daniel, she'll soon find out that Paradise is right here in Salem.

Brady: And then what?

Victor: And then the scales will fall from Daniel's eyes, and he'll see Nicole for the lying, conniving bitch she really is.

Daniel: You have more information on Ms. Walker's case?

Dr. Sedwick: I do. Um, since I wasn't able to brief Dr. Knapp, I wrote some additional notes on my way to the airport. I was intending to append them to her chart when I returned to Salem.

Daniel: Do you still have those notes?

Dr. Sedwick: Yes, of course. And since you apparently have no record of her visit, I'd be happy to email you what I do have.

Daniel: Yes, thank you. It's vital that I see them.

Nicole: How dare you come over here with your accusations and insinuations. I went out of my way to help you. And my baby is still dead. And if it wasn't for you, Jennifer--

Jennifer: If it wasn't for me, Nicole? It was an accident. It was a terrible, tragic accident. But yes, you are right. I wish I hadn't been there. I wish I hadn't seen you. I wish that we hadn't argued.

Nicole: So your pure conscience could be unblemished?

Jennifer: Nicole...

Nicole: Please.

Jennifer: You know the truth is I didn't push you. I never meant for that to happen. But you came there to confront me, didn't you?

Nicole: So what?

Jennifer: What did you want to say to me?

Nicole: That I hate your guts.

Jennifer: Wow.

Nicole: And I never--I never want to see you again. And lucky for me, my wish has come true. Only it's too bad that my baby had to die for it to happen.

Jennifer: Nicole, I know the bargain you made with Daniel. I know you dropped the charges against me to get him to go away with you. I know all of this.

Nicole: He wants to go away with me! What is wrong with you? You broke his heart, and all of a sudden you care again? This is not your decision to make!

Jennifer: No, you're right, it's not. It's Daniel's.

Nicole: Damn it, Daniel. Where are you?

Daniel: Ah, thank you, Dr. Sedwick. Yeah, your email just arrived. Thank you. I'll let you know if I have any questions. [Hangs up phone]

John: Father, um, Kristen's only been in town a couple days. How can she be on the board?

Father Tobias: Well, her father Stefano donated money toward our school renovation. Since he's traveling abroad, and Elvis declined to be involved, Kristen graciously agreed to step in.

[Cell phone rings]

John: I see.

Father Tobias: Oh, excuse me. I'll be right back.

Kristen: No problem.

John: You know what? I got to go. Please tell Father Tobias that I had to leave.

Kristen: John, could you just wait a second, please? Um, I have a confession-- [Laughs] A confession to make. I'm not really surprised to see you here this time.

John: I see. So you knew that I was on the board.

Kristen: No, no, I didn't. But I do know how committed you are...to God and this church and the people that you love.

John: Well, it's just that... we don't know what we're up against. This demon. Father Francis says it's the worst he's ever seen.

Kristen: But John, we have God on our side. If we keep our faith, and we draw our strength from him, we will win.

John: Well, I pray you're right.

Kristen: I am. We're going to defeat this demon and save Marlena.

John: Long time ago. Seems like a lifetime ago.

Kristen: I know. But you're the same man, John. You're still the most caring man I know.

Brady: Are you kidding me? Are you serious? I don't care how you feel about Nicole. The woman just lost her child, Granddad. I'm not gonna toy with her emotions like that. How heartless can you be anyway, huh?

Victor: Brady, now is not the time to be sentimental.

Brady: Sentimental? Do you--do you have any idea what Maggie says to me probably a hundred times a day? Let go and let God.

Victor: Let God move a black widow in with my godson? You know what she's like. She damn near killed me!

Brady: Ah, come on. That was years ago.

Victor: And she hasn't changed a wit. If you want Daniel's life on your head, fine. Just stand there and do nothing.

Jennifer: I know the bargain you made with Daniel.

Nicole: What does that mean? What does that mean? What the-- no, Jennifer. You know what? You're wrong, you're wrong. There's nothing else you can do to hurt me. Nothing. Mm.

Daniel: Mm-hmm.

Nicole: Oh, wow. It smells like heaven. What is this?

Daniel: It is plumeria. We have a tree in our backyard-- in Hawaii.

Nicole: Seriously?

Daniel: Yeah. Place that overlooks the ocean. And on our lanai, we have a hammock. And someday, there's gonna be a tire swing.

Nicole: You have taken the worst time in my life and given me something to look forward to. I-I don't--I don't know how to thank you enough.

Daniel: Well, let me teach you how to surf.

[Laughter]

Nicole: Really?

Daniel: Really. 'Cause you would be a natural. And our kids? They're gonna be like little fish. They'll be able to swim before they can even walk. Can you imagine a more perfect place to raise our children? Hmm?

Nicole: No, I can't.

Daniel: Mm.

Nicole: Aloha, Salem. And aloha, Paradise.

Daniel: Indeed.

Nicole: [Laughs]

Daniel: Let's get out of here.

[Door opens]

Jennifer: Daniel, don't go.

Daniel: Jennifer?

Jennifer: Please, don't go to Hawaii.

Daniel: What?

Jennifer: Don't go with her. I love you. And you love me, not her. So whatever deal you made with Nicole, it doesn't matter. She recanted her testimony. She can't send me to jail. So you can be free. You can be with me.

Nicole: Oh, my God. [Gasps] Oh, my God.

Jennifer: [Sighs] What was I thinking? Like I would really...get any answers from Nicole.

Nicole: That can't happen. Daniel's not gonna listen to her. Is he? Oh, God.

Daniel: [Grunts]

[Cell phone ringing]

[Ringing stops]

[Cell phone rings]

Daniel: Dr. Jonas.

Dr. Sedwick: Hi, it's Dr. Sedwick. Um, I have a few minutes before I go into surgery. I just wanted to make sure you didn't have any questions about my notes.

Daniel: No. No, your notes were very clear. Thank you. I know exactly what happened that day. Yeah, I really appreciate it. Thank you.

Marlena: She followed me to the park. She stole my cell phone. She's stalking my daughter. And every time I turn around, she's there with John. And the odd thing is, the longer she's here, the more he believes that she is sincere.

Kayla: Marlena, John is not gonna just sit back and let anything happen to you or your family.

Marlena: He did. Sorry, that isn't fair. That was when he was with Kristen and I was with Roman.

Kayla: Right. And that was a long time ago.

Marlena: Yeah.

Kayla: And you and John have built a life together now. And excuse me... Dr. Psychiatrist, ma'am...

Marlena: [Laughs]

Kayla: I don't think that I need to tell you that she is deliberately pushing your buttons.

Marlena: I think you're right. I think you're right. I think she's trying to make me look like an irrational shrew in his eyes. And you know what? I took the bait. As she knew I would.

Kayla: John trusts your judgment more than anyone's. Come on.

Marlena: No, no. Not when it comes to her. But I do think you're right. Yeah, I know she's trying to get a reaction out of me, so I will not give it to her. I won't let her have it. I will not give Kristen what it is she wants.

Father Tobias: I apologize for the interruption.

Kristen: No worries.

Father Tobias: I don't like wasting anyone's time.

Kristen: Time is never wasted in the church, Father.

Father Tobias: I'll call and reschedule the meeting ASAP.

Kristen: You know, I never got an agenda.

Father Tobias: I simply want to have an open discussion about how best to work toward our common goals.

Kristen: Okay, great.

John: Father, if, uh... if I may have a word?

Father Tobias: Of course.

Kristen: All right, then. Good-bye. And, uh, till the next time, John. Bye, Father.

John: [Sighs]

Father Tobias: Oh, what can I do for you?

John: Well, Father, I have kind of a...theological question.

Father Tobias: Well, okay.

John: It's about--it's about forgiveness. Now... I know that if a person is genuinely contrite, that God forgives anything.

Father Tobias: Indeed.

John: I-I know when I was in the seminary, we were always taught to practice godly forgiveness. But... if a guy has been wronged, and he's having a really, really hard time wrapping his head around...letting it go?

Father Tobias: Forgiveness, as you know, is a gift from God. It's a form of love. It's not of the mind. But of the heart.

John: Boy.

Father Tobias: Search your soul. Pray for God's help.

John: Oh, believe me, I have. Father Tobias, I'm-- I'm sure that you believe that people can change, right?

Father Tobias: [Laughs] How else could I put this on every day? Through God's grace, every lost soul can be found. Sometimes all it takes is a single person who believes.

Brady: [Sighs]

[Phone rings]

Maxine: Fourth floor nurses' station.

Nicole: Hi. I was hoping to speak to Dr. Jonas.

Maxine: I could page him, but I don't think he's here.

Nicole: Well, did he sign out?

Maxine: No, but he got a call and then I saw him walk out, so I think he's gone.

Nicole: Oh...

Maxine: Uh... would you like me to take a message?

Nicole: No, no. No, thanks.

Jennifer: Hi, you've reached the voice mailbox of Jennifer Horton. I can't take your call right now, but leave me a message. I'll call you back.

Nicole: Damn you, Jennifer. Damn you.

[Cell phone rings]

[Ringing]

[Cell phone rings]

Daniel: Ohh... no. I don't think you should be alone.

Nicole: I'm always gonna be alone now.

Daniel: I'm here. And I will help you.

Nicole: You can't. You can't help me. My son is gone. He's dead.

Daniel: There--there are no words, I'm just...

[Nicole sniffling]

Daniel: I'm sorry. When I was here before, I-- it's just so overwhelming. I still don't understand... what really happened.

Nicole: Jennifer. She pushed me. She killed my son.

Daniel: Cameron, can you come here a second? Yeah, I need you to do me a favor. Could you have somebody bring these back to the lost and found? I would do it myself, but there's something that I really need to do.

John: Hey, there you are.

Marlena: Hi.

John: I'm sorry I ran out this morning.

Marlena: How was your meeting?

John: Ah... it was a waste of time. I didn't get the message it was cancelled.

Marlena: Oh?

John: Yeah. And, um, I wasn't the only one.

Marlena: Let me guess. Kristen is also on the board.

John: Yeah, she was. She took Stefano's place. I didn't have any idea.

Marlena: Well, how could you? But, you know, I recall that she was always involved in charity work, you know, working with children and the church.

John: Yes, she was. Yeah.

Marlena: While she was also lying and scheming and kidnapping.

John: Okay, Doc.

Marlena: I hope you don't take it as a sign that she's changed. She's never giving up on you. I don't know what it'll take for you to understand that.

[Both shivering]

John: Off my towel!

Kristen: Sorry.

John: Tell me, did that do the job, or what?

Kristen: Yeah. What a novel idea, jumping in water to cool off. It's amazing no one thought of it before.

John: You sure as hell didn't think of it before, did ya?

Kristen: That's true, I didn't. It was a good idea, too.

John: Thank you.

Kristen: Ooh...although, I think it's starting to cool off a little bit. I'm feeling a breeze coming off the lake, aren't you?

John: Uh-huh, and that is why I built this fire before we went swimming.

Kristen: Oh, good!

John: Ahh...

Kristen: What are you doing?

John: Well, another good idea. I brought some Chianti along just in case the fire didn't warm us up--there you go.

Kristen: Thank you.

John: You're welcome.

Kristen: Well, you think of everything.

John: Well, I try. [Chuckles]

Victor: Well?

Brady: I bit the bullet. I called Nicole.

Victory: And?

Brady: She's not answering. I think she and Daniel already left.

Victor: Damn it, Brady! If you hadn't taken so long to make up your damn mind--

Brady: Granddad, I had to make sure I was making the right decision, okay? I'm sorry.

Victor: You had the opportunity to save Daniel a world of heartbreak...and you failed. Well, God help him now.

Daniel: Nicole? Nicole? What have you done? Where are you?

[Pounding at door]

Nicole: Come on, Jennifer. Open up. Wait, do I still have a key?
