Jennifer: You know, you went off to Europe for a year, so I guess you think I'm some ancient country bumpkin, but, honey, I know what I'm talking about. If you need help with birth control, I can--let me help you.
Abigail: Mom! I don't need it. I didn't sleep with anyone the whole time I was in Europe. I didn't sleep with Chad, and I didn't sleep with Austin, and I haven't slept with Cameron either. For god's sake, mom, I'm... I'm a virgin.
Jennifer: A virgin? How can that be?
Abigail: Really, mom? You really want to go there?
Jennifer: I'm not--I don't mean to act surprised. I just--I had no idea.
Abigail: You had no idea, or you just didn't care?
Nicole: Feel that. Right? Is that an elbow, a knee, what?
Daniel: Wow. Oh, my gosh.
Nicole: Hey, little dude. Say hello to your godfather.
Daniel: I've delivered a certain number of these babies, and it never ceases to be a miracle.
Nicole: I'm--I'm really glad you're gonna be a part of my son's life.
[Door opens]
Brady: Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to interrupt.
Daniel: No, no, no. Come on in. Come on in.
Sami: Well, if you don't hate me, then... how do you feel about me? All right, how about just... "we didn't get to finish our conversation. Could..." that's not gonna work. Just forget it, 'cause that is not gonna work.
Kate: Nothing ever does, does it, Sami? Not for you.
Chad: Oh, I was just coming to look for you. Is it true?
EJ: Hmm? Oh, hey. Is, uh--is what true?
Chad: That you resigned as mayor--is it true?
EJ: Well, the governor didn't exactly give me a lot of choice--too much bad publicity.
Chad: That's--that's great, because how are you gonna help me out now?
EJ: I don't have to be mayor to help you.
Chad: I need someone with clout, someone with some pull.
EJ: [Scoffs] Thanks. For what?
Chad: Help me find Stefano.
EJ: What exactly would you want with him?
Melanie: Stay away from me!
Chad: [Sighs] I wanted to ask Stefano for a favor.
EJ: Look, Chad... the last thing that you want is to be beholden to him.
Chad: You don't get it, okay? Life has gotten more complicated, all right? Melanie and I--we... might be getting married.
EJ: Wow. Really? I mean, I-I had no idea you were even thinking about that.
Chad: Well, I am. And I've gotten the ring and everything, and I'm--I'm just waiting on Melanie's answer.
EJ: Okay, so what does that have to do with Stefano, hmm? Please don't tell me you're asking for his blessing?
Chad: Oh, I'm--I'm sorry. Is this funny to you? Stefano--he knows how to make sure somebody stays safe.
EJ: Somebody stays--who stays safe?
Chad: Melanie!
EJ: Melanie.
Chad: Yeah.
EJ: Chad, I thought Melanie was fine.
Chad: Oh, well... we were getting there... till... [Sighs]
EJ: Oh. This is about Nick Fallon getting out of prison, isn't it?
Melanie: What are you doing here?
Nick: It's okay. Let me explain.
Melanie: Please just stay right there.
Maggie: Nick?
Nick: I was--I didn't mean to make things worse.
Maggie: I'm sorry. Um, this wasn't supposed to happen this way.
Melanie: Why is he here?
Maggie: Um, I didn't expect to see you.
Melanie: Okay, but I came to talk to you, and he's--he's standing right there.
Maggie: [Sighs] That's because he lives here now.
Sami: I'm having a great time at your tired, old company turning it around. In fact, the employees are pretty motivated.
Kate: Really? Well, they'd be fools to put their faith in you. You see, because you're going to run the company the same way you run your personal life. You just go wherever the wind blows you.
Sami: At least I didn't fall for a nut job like Ian McAllister. Bitch.
Kate: Hi, sweetie.
Billie: Hi. Um, did I just see you talking to Sami?
Kate: No, I was grinding her into fine powder. Now I'm ready for an adult conversation.
Billie: Mother-to-daughter?
Kate: No. Employer-to-employee.
Jennifer: Since when do I not care about you?
Abigail: You just always assumed I had all this experience! You don't know me at all, mom!
Jennifer: What, because I don't question you about your sex life? Abigail, you've had a lot of boyfriends. I just assumed.
Abigail: What does that mean? That means that I'm--I'm a slut?
Jennifer: No, that does--no! Can we just start this conversation over?
Abigail: Why? The one we're having is embarrassing enough.
Jennifer: Embarrassing? Why do you think it is embarrassing to be a virgin?
Abigail: Mom, if you don't know me, if you don't care to pay attention to my life, I'm not gonna stand here and explain myself to you.
Jennifer: Abigail-- don't walk away from me. Abigail, I am not done talking to you! [Sighs]
Woman: Maggie Kiriakis called for you, Dr. Jonas. She'd like to see you when you have a break.
Daniel: Everything okay?
Woman: Sounded fine to me.
Daniel: Great. Thank you. You know, I got some time now. I probably should head over there.
Nicole: Uh, oh, wait. Uh, the nurse said everything was fine.
Daniel: Well, if Maggie needs to see me, something's got to be up. So I will--I will talk to you later, all right? Great to see you again, Brady.
Brady: You too, man.
[Door closes]
Brady: I know that look.
Nicole: What? What look?
Brady: You got it bad for the good doctor, don't you?
Maggie: Uh, Nick... I need to talk to Melanie alone.
Nick: I, uh... was just gonna say the same thing.
Maggie: Again... I'm so sorry about this.
Melanie: You don't owe me an apology.
Maggie: Hope just brought Nick over a little while ago. Um, the parole board said he had to stay with a relative. I guess I'm the last resort. See, when you got here, I was in the other room trying to call you.
Melanie: It's fine. It's okay.
Maggie: No, it's not fine with you.
Melanie: [Stammering] I was in shock. I was--I was just surprised. That's all, okay?
Maggie: I know, but I want to be able to see you.
Melanie: You will. I will see you--I just--I have to--I have to get my hair cut.
Maggie: Yeah, but--
Melanie: I have an appointment that I'm late for.
Maggie: Okay, well, call and reschedule.
Melanie: I can't, though, 'cause my hair looks really bad right now.
Maggie: It looks really beautiful.
Melanie: I'll be--I promise I will--I will come back.
Maggie: [Stamps foot] Oh, god.
Melanie: [Exhales deeply]
EJ: Going to Stefano is not the answer, especially not at the moment, okay? Look, if you need some help, you come to me. What can I do?
Chad: Well, I was away from Salem when this all happened. I mean, you were here.
EJ: Mm-hmm.
Chad: Okay, so tell me about this guy. What's he like?
EJ: Melanie didn't tell you about him?
Chad: She doesn't even want to say his name, so that's out of the picture.
EJ: Uh, I mean, he's brilliant.
Chad: High I.Q. and all that?
EJ: All of it. I mean, all of it, really. I mean, that's what made him so incredibly dangerous when he went off the deep end.
Chad: So is he smart enough to convince the parole board that he is rehabilitated, when he is not?
EJ: Absolutely.
Nicole: Look, I know you're in a fragile state right now, okay? So I'm gonna be very gentle when I say you are so full of it.
Brady: And you're unbelievable. You are crazy, Nicole. You're doing it again. Here you go. Your life's a mess, and so your response is to find the first guy you see and make him the sun and moon and stars in your sky.
Nicole: Oh, for heaven's-- you are so off base.
Brady: I have seen that look on your face 1,001 times.
Nicole: It's a look of gratitude, okay? Daniel's wonderful. He saved my baby's life.
Brady: He did his job, okay? And you're running with it. Does he know that you have him in your sights?
Nicole: [Gasps]
Brady: Does he?
Nicole: You're so mean.
Brady: It's not me--I'm being a friend. I'm being a concerned friend right now, okay? How many times has this worked out for you, hmm?
Nicole: See? You're being mean. You're throwing my past in my face.
Brady: It always ends up in a disaster, Nicole. You know it, I know it.
Nicole: Well, what am I supposed to do--join a convent?
Brady: Speaking of disasters, do you know about that guy's romantic history? Do you think he's in a place right now to give you the kind of commitment that you want? I don't think he is.
Nicole: Okay, okay, okay, okay. Okay. All right. I know that you think you're being a friend and--and you're trying to help me out, but I don't really think that this is about me or Daniel. I think this is about you.
Brady: Maybe you're right. Okay, maybe losing mad-- but maybe--maybe it is a little about me, but that doesn't make me wrong about what's going on here. I'm sorry, I just-- will you--will you be careful? Just be careful.
Nicole: All right. I promise that I will be careful if...
Brady: If...
Nicole: You promise to take care of yourself. Okay? I know--it's a chore.
Brady: I'll try. I'll try.
Jennifer: [Crying]
Daniel: Jennifer?
Sami: You.
EJ: Yes, it's me.
Sami: I thought you were on your way to city hall.
EJ: Yeah, I was. Resigning takes a lot less time than you would think... especially when nobody's particularly upset about your resignation.
Sami: Are you okay?
EJ: Yeah, I'm fine. You know, an interesting thing happened when I was giving them my head on a platter. I found myself in a rare moment of telling the truth.
Sami: Oh, I tried that once. It hurts.
EJ: Doesn't it just?
Sami: What did you tell the truth about?
EJ: I told them that I was resigning to spend some time with my family.
Sami: Oh.
EJ: And then I found myself... beaming. Ah, anyway, you were, um, on your way out.
Sami: Yeah, yeah. I have to, um, get to the office, but... EJ, you want to come in?
EJ: My dear, I thought you'd never ask.
Abigail: Hey.
Cameron: Hey. I got your message.
Abigail: Oh. What'd you think of it?
Cameron: I think, you know... [Chuckles] We could talk about it.
Abigail: Hmm. You know what I think? I think that... talking is overrated.
Daniel: Here...
Jennifer: [Sniffles] Oh, gosh. You're like a boy scout, you know. You're just always prepared, aren't you?
Daniel: Well, the handkerchief--it comes with a price. If you use it... you have to talk to me.
Jennifer: Okay. I feel like... every single day... I am walking in the middle of a minefield, and I don't know when it's gonna blow up. And I don't know when I am gonna blow up.
Daniel: But it's good that you're crying--it is.
Jennifer: Yeah, it's just-- the thing is, it's not just Jack. It's--it's Abigail. She is so hard right now, and-- and she's making me... I'm sorry--it's not fair. I mean, she just lost her father, you know, and--and she's lost too, and--
Daniel: No, I-I can't imagine going through grief and--and being a parent at the same time. I just had to worry about myself. But Abigail, she's--she's giving you a hard time?
Jennifer: No, it's-- you know, it's not even fair to talk about her like this. And I-I'm rambling, and I just don't want you to listen to a word I'm saying right now 'cause I don't even know what I'm saying.
Daniel: I like to listen to you. I suck at talking, but... I listen.
Jennifer: Daniel, I wake up every single morning, and I think I can do this. I think that I am ready for whatever they throw at me, and I'm not. I am so not.
Daniel: Well, I think you're fouling off pitches pretty well.
Jennifer: No, I just take a long time before I go down.
Daniel: No. No, I think you're managing your at-bats. You are. You're taking your swings... because you are dealing with what's thrown at you. It just doesn't feel like it.
Jennifer: I guess I just feel like everything was so balanced, you know. Jack--he took care of certain things, and--and I took care of certain things. And--and everything was just even, and now I feel like-- I feel like I have everything. I'm taking care of everything.
Daniel: You know, I wonder, um, if you took on too much letting Nicole move in with you.
Jennifer: No, I-I told you-- that is not a problem. Really, she's a distraction, and--and I'm happy to help. Maggie was in a bind. Obviously, you were in a bind. It's fine.
Daniel: Me?
Jennifer: Yeah, you were the one who asked Maggie to take her in. So, obviously, you really care about what happens to Nicole.
Nick: You know, I-I did a lot of work in prison trying to see things from other people's point of view. You and Melanie--you love each other. You're her grandma. What if she has to think twice before coming over here? What if she doesn't feel free to stop by on the spur of the moment? That's gonna be something else that I've--that I've taken away from her.
Maggie: That's very sweet of you to see it that way. [Sighs] But listen... it was a shock. And it was my fault. I should have made sure that Melanie knew before-- before something like this happened.
Nick: Well, let me work on this... okay? I'm, uh... I'm gonna go into town, and I'm gonna try and find some kind of job, you know, some way to-- to pay my own way.
Maggie: But wait a minute-- the parole board. Now, you know you have to follow all those restrictions or--
Nick: Back I go.
Maggie: Yes.
Nick: I know, aunt Maggie. [Sighs] Now that I'm out, I want to-- I want to stay out, and I'm gonna stay away from Melanie.
Maggie: Well, that's probably a good idea.
[Lock rattles, door opens]
Chad: Oh. Hey. I thought, uh--I thought you were going out.
Melanie: I-I went out. And now I'm back.
Chad: Cool. You didn't get my text? I was--I was looking for you.
Melanie: No, I was gonna write you back, but then I figured you would come here, and I would see you here. And I was right, right?
Chad: So where'd you go?
Melanie: I just went for a walk.
Chad: Okay, I think we should talk about--
Melanie: Sorry. You first.
Chad: Yeah, um... I was going to say that we should talk about... ah, what I asked you... about marriage.
Melanie: I was thinking the same thing.
Chad: So... what do you think?
Billie: Do you actually believe that you and I could work together long-term?
Kate: Honey, why not? You're my daughter.
Billie: Well, yes, but neither one of us is exactly a pushover.
Kate: Yes, but, sweetie, I can trust you.
Billie: But we drive each other crazy, mama.
Kate: [Laughs] I don't know what you're talking about. Okay, listen, I know I have said before that reunions are overrated, but I really need someone that I can work closely with and someone who can understand my vision.
Billie: Well, then why don't you ask Lucas? You two did hearth and home without killing each other. He's perfect.
Kate: Honey, it's a cosmetics company, okay?
Billie: Okay. I'll think about it.
Kate: Oh! Thank you.
EJ: We could still try and make lunch at the green mountain lodge.
Sami: [Sighs] I think it's too late.
EJ: For what?
Sami: For lunch. Do you think Mary would be up for keeping the kids through dinner?
EJ: I think she could be persuaded.
Sami: 'Cause I was kind of thinking that, um, maybe you and I could celebrate your resignation.
EJ: How?
Sami: Dinner... you and me.
EJ: Samantha Brady... are you asking me out?
Cameron: Are we alone here?
Abigail: Well, the door's closed. What difference does it make? Unless you think I'm putting on some kind of show for my mother.
Cameron: No. Why would I think that?
Abigail: Sorry. I shouldn't have said that.
Cameron: It's just... this is the third time I've been here in 24 hours and...
Abigail: And what? What, you're running out of patience?
Cameron: I'm just not sure you know what you want.
Abigail: Sounds like you're the one who's not sure, Cameron.
Cameron: Abigail, I just-- [Clears throat] I'm saying this because I care about you.
Abigail: I care about you too. Otherwise, I wouldn't keep doing this.
Cameron: And I keep telling you, you don't have to do this.
Abigail: Okay, fine. Yep. Got it. It's just a bad idea for now.
Cameron: You know what? I think that maybe it's just a bad idea, period.
Daniel: Um, the thing with Nicole is...
Nicole: Daniel. Jennifer, hi.
Jennifer: Hi. What a surprise.
Nicole: Yeah. I-I thought you were going to meet Maggie.
Daniel: I was, but then I ran into Jennifer.
Jennifer: I'm sorry. Am I keeping you?
Daniel: No, no. It's probably just about Melanie. I mean, Nick--he's back in town.
Jennifer: Yeah, well, I mean, you don't want to keep Maggie waiting. Really, I-I'm fine. I'm--I'm fine.
Daniel: Okay. Okay, you take care of yourself. And I'll--I'll call you.
Nicole: Great. I think I interrupted something.
Jennifer: I came here because--because I was upset, and--and Daniel saw that there was something wrong.
Nicole: Yeah, he's a really good shoulder to lean on sometimes.
Jennifer: Right.
Nicole: Do you think that's the smartest thing to do right now?
Nick: Hi. I'm calling about the--the job ad in the paper. Nick Fallon. Right. It is. Thank you so much for--for taking my call. I was wondering--maybe I can come in for an interview, and-- and if something does open up-- hello? Okay, that went well. Next one... maybe the 11th time... is a charm.
Caroline: Hello, Nick.
Chad: [Exhales deeply] As soon as I sent you that text, I knew I was an idiot.
Melanie: [Chuckles] Why are you an idiot?
Chad: Because I sprung this proposal on you, when you said you needed time to think about it, and I, like, was tracking you down. And believe me--the last thing I want to do is--is put pressure on you.
Melanie: I know.
Chad: It's just that... this makes me so happy, this--this idea.
Melanie: You're not putting pressure on me. I told you I needed time to think, and I-I-I think... I thought.
Chad: And?
Melanie: "And" is all you have for me? That's all you've got? Do it the right way. Ask me again. I'll give you an answer.
Chad: [Laughs] Lucky I bought this, because, I mean, you know, it was just--you know, just in case.
Melanie: Right. [Scoffs]
Nick: [Chuckles] I guess I'm probably the-- the last person you expected to see here.
Caroline: I heard about your parole. Well, everybody's heard about your parole.
Nick: Yeah, I, uh--I figured that out. I'm trying to get a job. It's amazing how fast people want to get off the phone once they--once they hear my name.
Caroline: Are you surprised at that?
Nick: Uh, no. Uh, I-I can see... um, that you're still angry, and you have every right to be.
Caroline: I know I do. I don't need you to give me permission.
Nick: But I want you to know that I am sincerely, sincerely... sorry. Um... I wrote you some letters, uh, from prison. I don't know if--if you read them or if you even opened them, but I wanted you to know that... I was working on--on changing, on bettering myself.
Caroline: All those letters and that nice little speech you just gave now--you really think that cuts it?
Nick: No.
Caroline: You think I owe you forgiveness? Do you think anybody does?
Nick: No, ma'am.
Caroline: Oh. Well, we agree on something.
Nick: I know that I have to prove myself. I don't expect anybody to take my word for it, especially you, okay? I understand that I need to earn forgiveness. [Sighs]
Caroline: That last letter that you sent... you talked about all the things you were gonna do to change.
Nick: So you read it?
Caroline: Well, it was very passionate. You said that you were going to take responsibility for what you did.
Nick: That's right.
Caroline: And you just wanted people to know you could change.
Nick: Yes.
Caroline: Well... that's probably not gonna happen, you know, unless somebody gives you a chance.
Nick: Step one.
Caroline: How are you at washing dishes?
Nick: Uh, is somebody hiring?
Caroline: Yes. Yes. My place.
Sami: Am I asking you out? Yes. Yes, I am.
EJ: On a date?
Sami: Yes, on a date.
EJ: Well, of course, I'll have to check my book, you know.
Sami: Oh, you! You are--
EJ: I'm afraid--I'm joking. I'm joking. Please, I don't have a book. Are you kidding? I lost my job today. I'm a bum. [Imitating Groucho Marx] You want to help me wile the hours away?
Sami: [Laughs] EJ... whoever you are right now is not who you are.
EJ: I know. Here... I wanted nothing more than to be mayor--nothing. And today the governor calls me. He gives me the... [Clicks tongue] Heave-ho. And I feel like it's the first day of a summer vacation.
Sami: No more pencils, no more books, no more teachers.
EJ: No, I-I feel... almost lighthearted. You understand? So... EJ DiMera, formally known as the mayor... would very much like to accept the, uh, invitation of miss Samantha... Hernadez-Horton-Brady-- what exactly is it?
Sami: "Mudd."
EJ: Mudd.
Sami: At least your name's gonna be Mudd. [Clears throat] So I guess that's it. We have a date.
EJ: Well, I mean, there is-- there is one small condition.
Sami: Of course you do, 'cause EJ always has strings attached.
EJ: But it's not an onerous one. Let me plan it. You have a tremendous amount of work to do. And as we already established, I have nothing but free time. Do we have a deal?
Jennifer: I'm not really sure I know what you're talking about.
Nicole: Daniel... and what you yourself said about him--that he goes the extra mile. I'm just worried about Daniel worrying about you when he's grappling with so much himself.
Jennifer: Yes, I know-- his situation with Melanie.
Nicole: Yes, his situation with Melanie, and I'm trying to support him. I'm trying to help him because he deserves that.
Jennifer: Yes, I know that he does.
Nicole: You know, it's been interesting... spending so much time with him. I see what he's going through... and how hard he's trying not to burden other people with it. He's too nice. That is his problem.
Jennifer: Not something the two of you have in common, is it?
Nicole: He just doesn't know how to tell people he only has so much to give.
Jennifer: Wow. You--you really have just cleared--cleared some things up for me now, Nicole. But you know what? Maybe you should know that I didn't ask Daniel for anything. He saw that I was upset, and he came to me.
Nicole: That's my point. He came to help you... the woman who just dropped him like a hot potato.
EJ: You're sure you're okay with doing this tomorrow night?
Sami: Yes, I'm fine. Whatever.
EJ: I mean, listen, I just-- I want to plan this so that it's perfect.
Sami: Hmm, and that's how long it takes? 24 hours to make one phone call?
EJ: Oh, you're teasing me? I'm enjoying that, 'cause I'm a lighthearted person. Lighthearted people--we enjoy being teased.
Sami: Who are you? And what have you done with EJ DiMera? Don't answer that.
EJ: [Laughs] Listen, in the interest of full disclosure, uh, there is... another reason for me putting off our date for a day. It gives me more time to look forward to it. Now... you have to get to work, and, uh... I would not want to overstay my welcome.
[Door closes, opens]
EJ: See you tomorrow.
Sami: [Sighs]
[Door closes]
Sami: Oh, wow. I need this.
Abigail: Why--why would you say that?
Cameron: You're going through a lot. I mean, that--that goes without saying. It's obviously overwhelming for you sometimes. And I just think that maybe I'm not the right thing for you right now.
Abigail: No, that's not true, Cameron.
Cameron: Abigail, you have to think about yourself right now and get through what has to be a very confusing time. But... I know you'll be okay. You're strong.
Abigail: Are you breaking up with me?
Cameron: I think that's what's best for everybody.
Abigail: What--
Cameron: Take care of yourself.
Abigail: Cameron, no. Wait. Stop!
[Door closes]
Jennifer: Not that it is any of your business, but I did not just push Daniel aside, Nicole.
Nicole: Okay. Okay, I... I can see it's painful for you to face the truth about what you did to him, but it did happen. I mean, Daniel was just coming out of the hurt that he was buried under because he was hopeful about things with you. And then he found himself competing against your ex. And now you're alone... and vulnerable. And maybe you're doing it subconsciously.
Jennifer: Doing what? Doing what, Nicole? Do you think I'm using him?
Nicole: I know what you're going through. And maybe you didn't mean it. Maybe you didn't mean to fall apart in front of him, but you did. And you need to ask yourself...
Jennifer: What?
Nicole: Does Daniel deserve that... considering where he is now and after everything that's happened to him? If you really do care about him, Jennifer, please do not play mind games with him.
Brady: I can't believe this. I mean, after everything that he put Melanie through. Really?
Maggie: He was stuck, Brady. I had to help.
Brady: Had to help? Oh, Daniel... come on in.
Maggie: Ah, Daniel, I didn't hear you come in.
Daniel: Obviously. Help who, Maggie? What's--what's going on?
Brady: What's going on? What's going on is that Nick Fallon has once again become her star boarder, 'cause it worked out so well the first time.
Daniel: He's living here?
Maggie: He didn't have anywhere else to go.
Daniel: You let him live here?
Brady: She loves to take in a stray, even if he's murdered and killed. It just doesn't matter, does it?
Maggie: Brady! Please!
Brady: Fine, fine. But you do me a favor, and you tell him the whole story, Maggie... 'cause there's more.
Maggie: [Clears throat] There's more. Um... I kept trying to reach Melanie. And she came here. And Nick was here. I was trying to reach her, but Nick... he didn't mean any harm.
Daniel: What happened?
Maggie: Melanie left. She said she was fine. But, um... she's, uh--she was pretty shaken up, I think.
Daniel: Yeah, does that surprise you?
Maggie: No. I--
Daniel: You know what? Wait, wait, wait, wait. Before you say anything, let me ask you one question. Just whose side are you on?
Chad: I want you to know what this ring means. It means that I will always love you... put you first... watch out for you... make you as happy as you make me. Please, just... just say yes.
Melanie: Yes.
[Both laugh]
Melanie: Yeah.
Chad: Uh...
Melanie: [Giggles]
Nick: Why are you doing this?
Caroline: People say that you've changed. Well, I mean, let's see. I mean, it's the worst job that I can offer. But if you can show up for work every day, put in your hours, and--and keep out of trouble and look me in the eye even when I'm calling you on every mistake you make... then... maybe it's true. Maybe you have changed. You start tomorrow morning.
Chad: So you're not gonna say anything?
Melanie: I'm just so happy.
