[Distant siren wails]
Chad: You know what, instead of running around shopping for the perfect way to say "I'm sorry," what I really need to do is talk to Mel and apologize for what I said.
Gabi: No, Chad, listen to me, all right? If she wanted to talk to you, I mean, don't you think she would've texted you back? Look, you just need to give her some space. I mean, I-it hasn't been that long.
Chad: She won't need space once she finds out how sorry I am, okay? Which is why I need to find her and apologize to her in person.
Gabi: Wait, I'm coming with you.
Lexie: [Exhales]
Abe: Oh, hey, sweetheart. Know what, it's, uh... it's just about dinner time, and I thought that we would have a picnic at the Arboretum.
Lexie: [Sighs] Honey, I... as much as I want to, um... ooh. As much as I thought that that nap would help, I'm just not up to it today, I'm... I'm sorry.
Abe: Oh, hey, come on. Don't you dare be sorry. Mwah. We can do whatever you like instead. Any--anything you want. Just name it, huh?
Lexie: I have an idea. Um... let's just spend the rest of the day doing nothing but this, huh?
Abe: Mm, best idea you've ever had.
Lexie: Yeah, I think so too.
Sami: Thank you so much for making this work on such short notice. I know how busy you are.
Justin: Of course, of course. I'll do everything I can to help Will.
Sami: Yeah, I mean, obviously, we need a killer defense lawyer, and I know that your specialty is corporate or whatever, but I just was hoping you or your firm could help make a recommendation or put together a team, or...
Justin: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, actually, our firm is working with someone who I think would be perfect.
Sami: That's great.
Justin: With one caveat.
Carrie: Sorry I'm late. What did I miss?
Sami: You want me to hire Carrie?
Billie: Rafe.
Rafe: Oh, hey, Billie.
Billie: Hey.
Rafe: What can I do for ya?
Billie: I heard that you took over the case.
Rafe: Yeah.
Billie: Thought I might be able to help.
Rafe: Oh, yeah? You got something for me?
Billie: I sure do. I know that Will's been arrested.
Rafe: Yeah.
Billie: But he's not your guy. EJ is.
EJ: Still here?
Will: You told me not to leave. Did you think that taking a business call would make me forget that I asked you a question?
EJ: I've done a lot for you, William. You have some nerve insinuating that I killed my father.
Will: Look, I'm sorry, but my life is on the line for something that I didn't do. So I just want some answers.
EJ: Do you? You think I'm the answer, do you?
Will: Well, maybe. I mean, Stefano ruined your marriage, and--and your future. And I know better than anyone how angry that made you, so if you ask me, that's one hell of a reason to kill.
Melanie: I know somebody's out there, so you come and face me, or you just leave me the hell alone, yeah?
Andrew: Hello.
Melanie: [Screams]
Justin: Sami, bringing in Carrie was my idea. She's argued a dozen cases just like Will's, and has won every single one of them.
Sami: Right.
Justin: And she loves Will. You saw what she did for John. She didn't rest until he was cleared.
Sami: [Scoffs] Yes, yes, I'm fully aware of her and Rafe working 24/7 on that case. [Clears throat]
Justin: Look, I'm gonna give you guys a--just a moment to-- to talk, okay? You let me know what you wanna do.
Carrie: Thank you. Sami, I-I know that we have our issues.
Sami: Issues? Carrie, I am questioning your judgment right now. What you did ruined my marriage, it--it almost ruined yours.
Carrie: I'm truly sorry for what happened between Rafe and me.
Sami: [Scoffs]
Carrie: Please, please, do not let my mistakes get in the way of what is best for Will.
Sami: All I want is what is best for Will. And that is why I have serious reservations about hiring a lawyer who is in bed with the cops. I mean literally in bed with the cops. I don't know that your focus will be on solving his case.
Carrie: First of all, dad is leading the investigation, not Rafe, and secondly, Will is my nephew, and I would do anything for him. Look, I can help Will. I know that I can, and if you let me do my job, I can convince the jury that there is reasonable doubt.
Sami: Jury? This is not gonna go to trial.
Carrie: Well, Sami, it's--
Sami: Carrie, if you want to represent Will, then you have to find a way to prove him innocent now.
EJ: You want to talk to me about motive? Okay. What about your grandmother? I mean, she thinks that my father tried to blow her to kingdom come. If that's not a motive, I don't know what is.
Will: Um, I agree, but I think there's a big difference between you and Grandma Marlena.
EJ: Why is that?
Will: She is a good person.
EJ: I would be careful, if I were you, William, you are on very thin ice.
Will: I don't care if you killed your dad. I'm not here to judge. I just want to know the truth.
EJ: [Laughs] Truth. He wants to know the truth.
Will: Yes, so can you answer my question? Hello, did you shoot him or not?
Rafe: So you really think EJ did this, huh?
Billie: I do. You remember those bank statements I told you about, the ones that were hidden in the DiMera mansion?
Rafe: Yeah, of course. Why, you think they have something to do with Stefano's murder?
Billie: There's no doubt in my mind that those bank statements were connected to the pension funds stolen from John.
Rafe: Right.
Billie: Well, it seems pretty clear to me that EJ stole the money from John, and then Stefano stole it from him.
Rafe: Yeah, but we don't have any proof. And obviously, Stefano and EJ could've been working together.
Billie: No, no. When I spoke to EJ, he had no idea the money was gone and that Stefano had stolen it right out from under him.
Melanie: [Struggling] [Screams]
Gabi: Maybe this isn't a shortcut after all.
Chad: We're gonna pass the florist. Do you think maybe I should pick up some roses for Melanie? What do you think about that?
Gabi: I think that Melanie is very lucky to have you.
Chad: Wait a minute, did you hear that?
Gabi: What?
Chad: I thought I heard something.
Gabi: Uh, yeah, no, I didn't--I didn't hear anything. Chad, come on, let's go. This place is creeping me out.
Chad: Okay. [Sighs]
Andrew: That was close, you little bitch. Almost ruined everything.
Lexie: Wow.
Abe: [Chuckles]
Lexie: Look at the roses.
Abe: There we go.
Lexie: Oh, they're so beautiful. I haven't been out here to prune or weed or anything. They-- oh, they've never looked so beautiful.
Abe: [Chuckles] Well, we've been keeping an eye on things.
Lexie: Oh, honey.
Abe: You know, I know how much this--this garden means to you.
Lexie: Yeah, it does. You know why?
Abe: Mm?
Lexie: Because every time I look around it, I think of you.
Abe: Me?
Lexie: Yeah, you.
Abe: [Chuckles]
Lexie: I think of the summer that we bought this house, and you were out here every day. And it was so sticky, and ugh, it was miserable out here. But there you were, digging, and tilling, planting.
Abe: [Chuckles] Mulching. Don't forget the mulching.
Lexie: Oh, yeah. Mulching. You worked so hard to make this a dream garden just for me.
Abe: Yeah, it was hard work, but it was worth it just to see that smile on your face. Yeah. Yeah, that's the one. [Laughs]
Lexie: Thank you, honey. Thank you for always putting me first.
Abe: Thank you. Thank you for giving me a chance. I'm--I'm so grateful that--that you chose me. And you let me be yours.
Carrie: If I'm going to get Will out of this, I need to know everything. What evidence do the police have, what do they say his motive is?
Sami: He doesn't have motive. He didn't do it.
Justin: Okay, Sami, I need to ask you. If you don't want to use Carrie, say so right now, so I can start looking for somebody else.
Sami: Look, he needs to be represented now. If you really think you could do this, Carrie, then you have the job.
Carrie: I really do.
Sami: Okay. But you have to understand that this is Will's entire future. His whole life is resting on your shoulders right now.
EJ: If I killed my father, why would I help you?
Will: So you could look like the good guy.
EJ: [Laughs] Do you think that I really care about looking like a good guy, William? Hmm? Why would I bail out the one person who could take the fall for me? I mean, if I were smart, and, uh, I can assure you, I'm very smart, I would take advantage of the opportunity to send you up in my place.
Will: Okay, I get it. I'm sorry that I asked.
EJ: No, you're not. But if I were you, I would be careful, William, otherwise you will be.
Will: Is that another threat?
EJ: No. It's not a threat, William. It's a fact. You need to understand, dear boy, innocent people go to prison all the time.
Rafe: Well, whether we like EJ for the murderer or not, we still need proof.
Billie: I'll get you your evidence.
Rafe: Oh, yeah? Well, you know the DiMeras have a talent for making things disappear.
Billie: Oh, I know. But nobody likes a good challenge better than I do. So if EJ's our man, I'll get him.
EJ: I want to help you. I mean, after all, William... [Clears throat] What good would you be to me if you were behind bars, eh? None.
Will: Exactly.
EJ: Look... if I'm going to help you, you are going to have to tell me everything that happened the night my father was killed.
Will: You already know what happened. I gave my statement to the police.
EJ: Yeah, okay, yeah, I know what you told the police, okay? But you and I both know that there are certain things you left out. Aren't there?
Justin: So I have some news.
Sami: About Will? Did something happen?
Justin: No, no, not about Will. Um, there's been a change in the case. Your father is no longer leading the investigation.
Carrie: Who is?
Rafe: Me.
Sami: You're leading the investigation?
Rafe: Yeah. Roman felt he was too close to the case, and considering his own relationships with several of the suspects, he thought it was best to step down.
Carrie: Oh, I can't believe this.
Sami: I can. You knew, didn't you?
Chad: [Sighs]
Gabi: Okay, Chad, look, we've checked the pub, we've checked the coffee house. I mean, she hasn't texted you back. I'm thinking Melanie just doesn't want to be found.
Chad: Yeah, I better call her.
Gabi: [Sighs]
Chad: I have to call her, okay? [Sighs] Come on, Mel, pick up, pick up. Come on, come on.
[Cell phone ringing]
Andrew: Sorry, Chad. Melanie's not available right now.
Lexie: [Giggles] Look at that cloud. It looks like a giraffe, doesn't it?
Both: [Laugh]
Abe: [Sighs] Hey, you remember, uh... when we first signed Theo up for tee ball? [Chuckles] We spent hours out here practicing.
Lexie: Yeah. It was nice. We played until the sun went down, and then we'd lay out on the grass and try to count all the stars.
Abe: Yeah. Remember Theo said... that there are more stars in the sky than petals on mommy's flowers.
Lexie: Yeah.
Abe: [Chuckles] You know, when you were sleeping...
Lexie: Mm-hmm.
Abe: I went out and I bought some seedlings for that corner you said was looking a little bare. So now, it just needs your magical green thumb. And... and they'll be blooming in no time.
Justin: So let's just focus on what's important. And that is clearing Will of these charges, okay?
Sami: Justin, my concern is that she will not be able to do that because she is distracted by him.
Carrie: That's not fair.
Sami: What's not fair is what's happening to Will, and I don't want his future resting on the shoulders of star-crossed lovers who can't keep their head in the game.
Rafe: Sami, enough.
Sami: I need some air. It isn't enough, Rafe.
Carrie: Sami, please.
Justin: No, no, no.
Sami: Not nearly enough!
Carrie: Rafe, I-- I really didn't know.
Rafe: Of course you didn't.
Carrie: And look, if you want me to step off the case, just say the word.
Rafe: No, no, no. No, I do not. I need your help, and Will needs your help. All right? We're gonna be fine, okay? We're both professionals here, right?
Carrie: Right.
Rafe: Yeah.
Carrie: We can handle it.
Rafe: Yeah.
Gabi: Look, we've been-- we've been running around all day; I think maybe it's time to stop.
Chad: I can't, Gabi, I have to apologize, okay?
Gabi: Okay. I also think that you should think about that Melanie wasn't the only person you yelled at.
Chad: Well, I, uh--you're right, you're right, I, uh-- I need to call him right now and apologize.
[Cell phone rings]
Will: Hello.
Chad: Hey, Will, it's, uh-- it's Chad.
Will: Hey, um, I'm sorry, I-- this isn't a good time. Can I call you later?
Chad: Listen, I'm gonna make this really fast, okay? I, uh--I just wanted to apologize for going off on you earlier.
Will: You don't have to.
Chad: No, no, no, I really do. I now know that you couldn't possibly have anything to do with my father's death, and, um, I'm really sorry I ever questioned you.
Will: Thank you. Um, like I said, though, I-I'm gonna have to go. I'll call you later.
Chad: Hey, wait, um, you haven't seen Melanie by chance, have you?
Will: No, sorry.
Chad: Okay. Um, well, if you see her, make sure you tell her that I'm looking for her, okay?
Andrew: Well, you certainly like this Chad guy, don't you? [Chuckles]
[Cell phone rings]
Andrew: Ah. Speak of the devil. Looks like loverboy sent you another text. Let's see. "Mel, I am sorry I was such a jerk. Please call me." [Sighs] There trouble in paradise? Delete.
Abe: So Theo and I were out practicing riding our bikes again yesterday. [Chuckles] You know, he's a little bit worried about getting rid of his training wheels. I think he's ready. How 'bout you?
Lexie: I think that you are an amazing father.
Abe: Well, I'm doing my best. I just hope it's enough...
Lexie: I know.
Abe: To make up for not having you.
Lexie: Honey, you're going to do just fine.
Abe: When I make the wrong decision, when I make a mistake... what am I going to do when you're not there to fix it?
Lexie: Okay. News flash. Because you are a parent, you are going to make hundreds of mistakes, just like I did. But you have family as backup, okay? You've got--you've got Mom, and Cameron, and EJ.
Abe: Sweetheart. You know what I promise you?
Lexie: Hmm?
Abe: I promise you I will do everything I can to make you proud.
Lexie: Oh, honey. You already do. Okay? You make me proud. Every day.
Will: And then I went home. And, uh, that's it. That's what happened.
EJ: And you didn't tell any of this to the police?
Will: Of course not. My grandfather's the police commissioner. I can't have him finding out about this.
EJ: William, we are talking about incredibly serious charges.
Will: I know. And I know it looks bad. I... I don't know. I don't know what to do.
Gabi: Chad, look, you've done everything you can. You've called her, you've-- you've texted her, we've run all over the town.
Chad: I know, I'm getting-- I'm getting worried. I mean, it's not like her to just disappear like this.
Gabi: Melanie can be a little dramatic.
Chad: [Sighs] I mean, I guess.
Gabi: Listen to me. Melanie is my friend, and I love her, but I think that she's overreacting. Just--just give her this night to drama queen it up, and I'm sure she'll call you in the morning.
Chad: You think so?
Gabi: I promise.
Melanie: Oh, my God. Where the hell am I?
Carrie: Every other suspect has clear incentive for taking Stefano out, but not Will.
Rafe: Well, Will was working for EJ. Maybe there's something in that.
Carrie: Maybe.
Rafe: Listen, don't worry about Will. If there's evidence that clears him, I'm gonna find it.
Carrie: I'm not worried about Will so much, I'll--I'll take care of Will.
Rafe: All right.
Carrie: I am worried about you.
Rafe: Me?
Carrie: Rafe, if you don't watch it, you could be unemployed all over again. Just...
Rafe: [Chuckles]
Carrie: Just with this case, just try and be objective, all right?
Rafe: All right, I will. But you know me, I follow my gut wherever it leads me.
Carrie: Well, just make sure your gut doesn't get you fired again.
Rafe: Yeah, well, I think my gut's doing just fine. Led me to you, didn't it?
Carrie: So how do we prove that the gun Will fired wasn't the murder weapon?
Rafe: I don't know. I don't know. But I'm telling you, something's not right here. There's a missing piece to this puzzle, and we gotta find it.
EJ: Tell you what I'm going to do, William. I'm going to help you.
Will: So you can hold it over me later? [Scoffs]
EJ: No. I believe you. I don't think you're a bad person. You're a foolish person, but I don't think you're a bad person.
Will: Oh, thank you, I think. So what do I do?
EJ: Now, you are going to do exactly what I tell you to do.
Abe: You know... I have an idea of something we can do tomorrow.
Lexie: What's that?
Abe: We could set up a picnic. Just you, and me, and Theo. Yeah, and we can renew our wedding vows.
Lexie: Renew our wedding vows?
Abe: [Chuckles]
Lexie: Wha--what made you think of that?
Abe: Just thinking about how much I love you. And how it would just... it would feel good to marry you all over again.
Lexie: [Sighs] That's the most romantic thing you've ever said to me.
Abe: Oh. Does that mean you'll say yes?
Lexie: Yeah. Yes. [Sniffs] I would marry you again, and again, and again. Oh, I love you so much, honey. Nothing would make me happier.
Abe: You know what makes me...
Lexie: [Sighs]
Abe: What makes me happy?
Lexie: [Sniffs] What?
Abe: It's you. I can't believe how lucky I am to have you.
Lexie: I feel the ex--exact same way. Sometimes I think that we're the two luckiest people in the world. I love you so much.
Abe: I love you. [Sighs] You know, we should, uh... we should go home right now. I'll fix us dinner, okay?
Lexie: No. I wanna-- I wanna stay out until it's dark... and count the stars.
Abe: As long as y-- as long as you let me hug you.
Lexie: Always.
Melanie: Hey! Hello! Let me outta here! Hey!
Andrew: All right, Princess. Now let's make sure that nobody comes to your rescue.
Melanie: Ugh! God.
Gabi: What is it?
Chad: It's an email from Melanie.
Gabi: Okay, well, what does it say?
Chad: [Chuckles] I can't believe this.
Gabi: "Dear Chad, I can't forgive what you said. I deserve to be treated better, which is why I think we need a break. I'm going to Europe to be with my mother. Don't call, don't text, just please leave me alone. Melanie." Wow.
Melanie: [Grunts] Are you kidding me right now?
[Cell phone rings]
Andrew: That was fast. "Mel, please don't leave. I can't tell you how sorry I am, but I promise I'll make it up to you. Please call me." [Chuckles] Isn't that sweet? Sorry, Chad, but she's already moved on.
Melanie: [Grunts] Crap. [Sighs] Oh, God. Oh, God.
Gabi: Hey, look. It's gonna be all right.
Chad: How? She's flying to another country, Gabi, that's how bad she wants to get away from me.
Gabi: Okay, well, maybe she was more upset than we thought.
Chad: Upset? Gabi, she was furious.
Gabi: Okay, just listen to me. She'll get over this. Melanie will get over this. Like I said, just give her some--give her some space. You'll see.
Sami: Have you found a way to, uh, get the charges dropped against Will?
Carrie: Not yet.
Sami: Look, I'm serious. I do not want you spending time flirting while my son is being charged for murder.
Carrie: And if you think I'm gonna beat a murder rap in 30 minutes, come on, Sami, gimme a break.
Rafe: All right, just stop. Stop it, okay?
Sami: I'm worried about--
Rafe: Stop! Okay? We're not gonna be able to help Will if we're at each other's throats all the time, okay?
Neil: I'm looking for Officer Hernandez.
Rafe: That's me.
Neil: Hi, I'm Neil Hultgren. I'm a friend of Will's.
Rafe: Uh-huh.
Neil: Look, I heard on the news the other night that, um, he was arrested for killing some guy. That's impossible.
Rafe: Yeah, what makes you say that?
Neil: He was with me that night, from about 11:30 to 1:00.
Rafe: Okay. Midnight was the time of death. Okay, uh, Neil, if what you're saying is true, then, uh--
Neil: It is. You can ask anyone. We were at the Spot the whole time.
Rafe: Spot. You mean the gay bar?
Will: I can't do that.
EJ: William... you don't have a choice.
Will: There's gotta be another way. You're a lawyer. Can't you think of something, like--
EJ: Unfortunately, the evidence is stacked against you. In the eyes of the jury, you will appear guilty.
Will: [Sighs] Okay... but it's not gonna be easy.
EJ: Of course, it's not going to be easy. But it will save your life.
Abe: [Exhales] It's getting a little chilly out here. You know what? I think I'm gonna run in and get us another blanket, okay? Lex? Hey. Come on, sweetheart. Let's wake up. Lex? Lexie? Lexie? Lexie? Come--come on. Wake up. Wake up. Wake up, sweetheart. [Sobs] Oh, God. Oh, God. Oh, God, oh, God. No... oh, God. [Sobbing] Oh, God.
