EJ: Good morning.
Nicole: Morning.
EJ: Do you know what day it is today, hm?
Nicole: A lady never forgets valentine's day.
EJ: I'm gonna kill William. I'm gonna kill him. I told him I-- I told him to remind me. I'm--
Nicole: You forgot.
EJ: Yeah. Argh!
Nicole: That's okay.
EJ: No, it's--
Nicole: That's okay, I understand. Because today means something else to you. And to me too. Today is when you become elected mayor of Salem. Mm-hmm.
EJ: That's true.
Nicole: And I would like to be the first to congratulate you...mayor.
Lexie: Okay, I have to show you what Abe gave me for valentine's day. Aren't they beautiful?
Jennifer: Wowee, they're beautiful. Your husband has good taste.
Lexie: Yeah, he certainly does. So, uh, are you and Jack doing anything special today?
Jennifer: Oh, no, no. I'm--no, valentine's day is a high-pressure holiday, and we're doing a no-pressure holiday.
Lexie: Ah, okay.
Jennifer: Besides, I have a date with our next mayor.
Lexie: Well, hear, hear.
Jennifer: Yes, um, I made some coffee. Would you like some?
Abe: Ah, ooh, no. No, I'm--I'm wired as it is.
All: [Laughing]
Lexie: Actually, I'd--I'd, um, I'd love some. Um, but I'll--I'll--I'll get it myself. You two stay here and, um, you spend some time with your candidate. You know, you deserve it.
Jennifer: Yes. Hey, um... I just wanna tell you something. I-I was approached last night.
Abe: Approached? By whom?
Jennifer: By one of the men in charge of tallying the votes after the poll closes.
Abe: Why?
Jennifer: He said that he could adjust the results to guarantee that you would win the election. What do you want me to do?
Guy: You will?
Will: Yes, thanks for meeting me.
Guy: You sure it's, uh, smart to do this out in the open?
Will: Yeah, it's fine. It's still early. But you know what? If it makes you more comfortable, let's go somewhere more private.
John: Happy valentine's day, doc.
Marlena: Butterfly?
John: It's to symbolize that this year is a new beginning for us.
Marlena: I love it. I love you.
John: You okay? I know you didn't get much sleep last night.
Marlena: I'm never having coffee with dessert again.
John: Yeah, right. Come on, who you talking to? Wasn't the coffee that kept you up last night. It was Stefano, wasn't it?
Chad: Thought I'd find you here. Um...I know I'm not supposed to, but it is valentine's day, so... Melanie, I still think about you all the time.
Abigail: Hi.
Melanie: Hi.
Chad: Hi. Uh, I was just about to take off.
Abigail: No, stay, please.
Melanie: Um, our hot chocolate's probably ready. I should--I should go get--
Chad: No, no, no, it's okay. I'll--I'll go get them. You two ladies talk, okay?
Melanie: Um, you don't have to invite him to stay with us. I know it's kind of weird.
Abigail: No, Melanie. I meant what I said the other day. I think that the two of you would be great together. Plus, I kind of owe you since I was such a mess yesterday.
Melanie: Don't be silly. You were upset.
Abigail: Just--it's really hard not having my mom to talk to about this, since we're basically not speaking right now. I'm just so happy to have my best friend back.
Melanie: Me too.
Abigail: Even if you think I'm making a mistake with Austin?
Melanie: Um...with Austin... uh, I-I really just don't wanna see you get hurt. You know, um, if he has feelings for you, he's still married. You know, if he's kissing his wife, he's-- he's probably got feelings for her too still. This is so complicated. I'm really sorry.
Austin: Happy valentine's day.
Carrie: Where did you get this from?
Austin: I got that where we get everything else these days: From room service. But I did find a French bakery that makes damn fine chocolate croissants. So I'm gonna go get us some for breakfast.
Carrie: You don't have to do that.
Austin: No, I want to.
Carrie: Hey. Everything's okay with us. You know that, right?
Austin: Here's what I know, okay? I know that it is valentine's day, oui? I know that I love you, and just, you know, let me spoil my wife today. Will you? Is that okay with you?
Carrie: Yeah.
Austin: Okay. I'll be back.
[Slamming sound]
Sami: You bitch.
Carrie: Sami, what are you doing here? What is wrong with you?
Sami: You have to ask me that? You're lucky all I did was slap you.
Carrie: You shouldn't have come here, Sami.
Sami: Oh, really, why not? Are you hiding my husband under your bed?
Carrie: I am not after Rafe. You know that.
Sami: No, no, I don't. What I do know is that you're a liar, a home-wrecker, and a slut, and it is time someone called you out.
John: That Stefano really pulled one on us this time. I'm just sorry I wasn't able to protect us from him. I just-- I'm just sorry.
Marlena: Don't blame yourself. Nobody could've seen this coming.
John: What? That I was legally married to hope? I'd hope not.
Marlena: Maybe I should apologize. I should not have let him get to me that way. After all that Stefano's done to us, I mean, this was nothing.
John: Well, it's not exactly nothing. But being used to it and being prepared for it, that's two different things. So I think it'd be smart if we stayed on guard. We both know there's--there's nothing he won't do to get what he wants.
Marlena: That kind of scares me. Because what Stefano wants is to tear us apart.
John: He hasn't succeeded yet. And he's not about to.
Guy: I feel a little weird about this.
Will: Well, don't. You have nothing to worry about. Okay, look. If there is a fall-out, you will be protected, and you will be very well, uh, rewarded, okay? You got my word.
Guy: Look, no offense, but I would rather hear that from Mr. DiMera.
Will: Well, you're hearing it from me, okay? And hearing it from me is as good as hearing it from Mr. DiMera. Understand? Good.
Both: [Laughing]
Nicole: So you didn't forget. They're gorgeous.
EJ: For you.
Nicole: I don't believe you. You know, that wasn't very nice, leading me on.
EJ: Oh, I think I have something else for you. Let me see.
Nicole: Oh.
EJ: Just a-- both: [Laughing]
Nicole: EJ. Ooh, I'm so excited! Now if I can just figure out which way to open it.
EJ: Happy valentine's day.
Nicole: It's beautiful. It's--it's--
EJ: You like it?
Nicole: Beyond beautiful, yes.
EJ: May I?
Nicole: Please.
EJ: [Chuckling] Okay.
Nicole: Oh, wow. [Clearing throat] Well?
EJ: Stunning.
Nicole: Yeah?
EJ: Yeah. Come here.
Nicole: Well, a few dozen carats will definitely do that for me, right? Stunning. Thank you.
EJ: You know, I was, um... I was thinking about something--
Nicole: Mm.
EJ: That happened yesterday.
Nicole: Oh, boy.
EJ: Something you said after Brady had proposed to Madison.
Nicole: You're not talking about my little childhood fantasy, are you? Prince charming sweeping me off my feet and telling me that he'll love me forever?
EJ: Well...well, I don't-- maybe it--maybe it isn't so far-fetched.
Nicole: It's beyond far-fetched. Embarrassing. Oh. Oh, my goodness, we have to get to the polls.
EJ: No, we don't.
Nicole: No, we do. We do, because Abe--listen, listen. Abe is about to have a very bad day. Kiss me. Come on. Up, up, up, up. Up and at 'em.
Abe: This man, he wants to fix the election for us. Why? Why would he do that?
Jennifer: Why? Because he doesn't want EJ to win any more than we do, Abe. I mean, he said he considers it an act of civil disobedience. He doesn't want his family raised in a town run by the DiMeras.
Abe: EJ's not going to win.
Jennifer: You're right. And hopefully this wouldn't be necessary, but he is polling strongly. So if you just give me the word, I-I mean, I'll do it. I'll tell him what you wanna do. And you have until the polls close to make up your mind. You don't have to decide right now.
Lexie: Decide what? Are you having second thoughts about something?
Jennifer: His--his tie. He's not sure if it'll look good on camera, you know.
Lexie: Abe, honey, you picked the perfect tie.
Abe: Well, thank you, thank you.
Lexie: Listen, uh, we'd better get going if we wanna get to the polls early. The radio said they're expecting a huge turn-out.
Jennifer: Oh, that's good. So that means people aren't at home sitting on their couch, thinking their vote doesn't count.
Lexie: Yeah. Do you think that'll work in our favor?
Jennifer: Yeah, I do. I do. There is no way that Abe is going to lose this election to EJ.
EJ: There we go.
Woman: Hi. His name is Eric James, but we call him EJ--
EJ: Oh! After you.
Woman: Come here, EJ. What a handsome fella you are.
EJ: Hey? Thank you.
Nicole: Hey, hey, hey, will. Uh, did you take care of that thing I asked you to take care of?
Will: I did. Everything is on-track.
Nicole: Good job.
Chad: All right, here we go, ladies.
Melanie: Thank you.
Abigail: Thank you.
Chad: You're welcome.
Abigail: Chad, I've apologized to Melanie already, but I owe you an apology as well. I was unfair to you after we broke up, and I'm sorry. I hope you can forgive me?
Chad: Already have. Come here.
Abigail: Thanks. You too.
Melanie: Yes. Be my best friend forever?
Chad: BFFs.
Abigail: Absolutely. I already told Melanie this, but I think the two of you would make a fantastic couple. So don't mess this up, okay? Bye.
Melanie: [Giggling]
Marlena: I believe in our love more than anything.
John: Good girl.
Marlena: Mm. Honey, Stefano was different yesterday. I don't know. It's--it's like he's--he's trying to shake our foundation, who we are, what we believe in. And if he finds the slightest seed of doubt, he will work on it--
John: He won't. Won't happen, I won't let it. Now I want you to listen to me. You know what's gonna happen? We're gonna get on that plane, we're gonna go to Alamainia, we're gonna spend the--the two weeks or whatever, and we're gonna leave with a divorce. And then all of this is gonna be nothing more than a little inconvenient, unpleasant memory. Trust me.
Austin: Abigail. We need to talk.
Carrie: Sami, I'm sorry about what happened. I know what you're thinking and why. I-I am not a threat to your marriage.
Sami: You were kissing my husband.
Carrie: I told you, it--it just happened. We were wrapped up in a case.
Sami: What, you're just saying it didn't mean anything?
Carrie: Look, you--you have every reason to be upset with me.
Sami: Upset with you? You think I am upset with you? You think you can brush this off with a couple of apologies, you can think again, because I am just getting started.
Abigail: What is there to talk about?
Austin: At the very least, I owe you an apology.
Abigail: For standing me up at dinner last night. I know why you did. I saw you kissing your wife.
Austin: I'm--I'm sorry?
Abigail: That you kissed her?
Austin: No, no, no, no, it's not that. It's--I'm sorry that you had to see that. That mustn't have been easy for you.
Abigail: I just--I don't under--I don't understand what's going on here.
Austin: What's going on, Abigail, is that Carrie and I are trying to fix our marriage. We're trying to make it stronger.
Abigail: Why?
Austin: Um, because that's what married couples do. And you have every right to be angry with me. I mean, you're such a beautiful--you're young--woman, and you were there for me. You were there for me when I needed you. But, Abby, I am so ashamed of my behavior. I-I took advantage of you.
Abigail: I'm not angry. Or sorry. Being with you was the most wonderful night of my life.
Carrie: I do not wanna fight with you.
Sami: Oh, really? Well, we are gonna fight right now, because I am not gonna not let you fight with me.
Carrie: Hey, why--why do you always think that's the only choice?
Sami: Why did you have to throw yourself at my husband?
Carrie: I know that's not what Rafe said.
Sami: He didn't have to.
Carrie: What do you want from me?
Sami: I want you, Carrie, to admit that you threw yourself at Rafe because he is my husband.
Carrie: That is so not true. How many times do I have to apologize to you?
Sami: I want you to stop acting like it was an accident. I saw you two kissing. I saw what it meant, and I know what would happen if I hadn't walked in--
Carrie: Hey, that's enough. You stop right there. I'm warning you.
Sami: You love it, don't you? You love that everyone sees you as the sweet, innocent sister. You set out to seduce my husband because he is the man that I love. Worked for you before, right? Why not try it again?
Carrie: Okay, Sami. You wanna go there? Fine, we'll go there. Then we'll see who the real bitch is.
Marlena: I'm afraid there's more to this Stefano business than meets the eye. John, why would he take you out of the country to get you married? What--what is the endgame there?
John: I'm not gonna waste any time wondering about it. I'm just gonna focus on what I know to be true, okay? And the fact is, it has been a long time since I have made love to my wife.
Marlena: [Laughing] Oh, yeah? Uh--
John: He's not worth the time you're spending on him, doc. Don't do this. Don't--don't let him work you like this. He knows how to push your buttons. How many times have we been down this road before?
Marlena: I know, I know. And not everything he said was a lie, because you and hope--
John: Did what? Did what? We slept together, so what? That time in my life, it doesn't mean anything to me. Stefano was controlling our every move, our every thought. Hope and I were together because that's what he wanted.
Marlena: Let me ask you something: Do you remember being with hope?
John: Doc, stop.
Marlena: It's important. John, look at me. He made you think that you had feelings for her. And because you believed it, you acted on them. Now if you haven't resolved those feelings, we've got to do that, and we've got to do it now.
Voter: Mr. Mayor, how are you feeling today? Hi.
Abe: Good to see you. Indeed, indeed, thank you. How are you all? Hi, good to see you.
Voter: Mr. Mayor.
Abe: Hello, thank you.
[General chatter]
EJ: Abraham.
Abe: Hello, EJ. You know, I think it's fine for you to refer to me as "Mr. Mayor."
EJ: For today.
Abe: Well, you'll have to excuse me. Lexie and I need to cast our ballots.
EJ: Oh, I'm sure you simply need all the help that you can get.
Abe: I'm not concerned. Because I believe the better man will emerge Victorious.
[Phone ringing]
EJ: I couldn't agree more.
Abe: Did you go?
EJ: This better be important, William.
Will: Uh, it is, and, uh, if you don't freak out, it'll only take a minute or so.
EJ: Oh, if--if I don't freak out, okay.
Will: Um, my mom knows that you--I saw you two having sex. I told her.
EJ: You did what?
Will: Yeah.
EJ: Why would you do a stupid thing like that?
Austin: Abigail, you are very important to me. Do you know that?
Abigail: Well, I don't feel very important.
Austin: And that's my fault. And I'm not trying to make excuses for what happened.
Abigail: For what happened? You mean, for making love to me? Because that is what happened, isn't it?
Austin: What happened is I had too much to drink. I wasn't thinking. I was hurt. And you were...
Abigail: What? I was what? I was just there?
Austin: Look, I know that this isn't easy to hear. I'm just trying to be honest--
Abigail: Why are you doing this?
Austin: Because I don't wanna lead you on. You're an amazing person, Abigail, and you deserve to be with somebody who can make you happy.
Abigail: That's you. You make me happy.
Chad: You must be happy that you have your best friend back.
Melanie: It's nice.
Chad: Yeah?
Melanie: This is kind of nice too.
Chad: Oh.
Melanie: [Giggling]
Chad: I know what'll make it better. Happy valentine's day, Melanie.
Reporter: It must be difficult having both your husband and your brother in this election.
Lexie: Well, uh, for me, the choice is easy. My husband is the finest man I've ever known. He doesn't just talk the talk, he walks it every day, guided by a very strong sense of right and wrong that never wavers, no matter the challenge. That's just who he is.
Reporter: But what about your brother, EJ DiMera?
Lexie: No comment.
EJ: What are you thinking? Telling your mother that you saw what happened between the two of us?
Will: Yeah, it just kind of happened.
EJ: Just kind of what? It just happened? The one thing you weren't supposed to say just happened to skid out of your mouth, huh?
Will: Yeah. Sorry? I...
EJ: Sorry? William, I'm afraid "sorry" doesn't quite cut it, all right?
Will: What--what else do you want me to say, okay? She knew something was bugging me.
EJ: Lie, all right? Lie.
Will: I tried that. She wouldn't let me leave, okay? Look, I know it was a mistake. Obviously. That's why I'm telling you.
EJ: If Nicole finds out that I had sex with your mother--
Will: Look, she's not, okay? Promise.
EJ: Oh, you promise, do you? You promise. Your promises don't mean very much to me at the moment, William.
Will: Okay, look. The last thing that my mom wants is for this to get out, okay? Um, look, she's not gonna tell anybody, seriously.
Sami: No, you don't get to use my past against me anymore. I have changed. I have grown up since then. You are obviously still the same spoiled brat you always have--
Carrie: Oh, I'm the spoiled brat?
Sami: You had everything growing up. You had perfect grades, perfect hair, a perfect life.
Carrie: Oh, I wouldn't have had a life at all if it were up to you, Sami. You've been nothing but an insecure, jealous, manipulative witch.
Sami: What choice did I have, up against you?
Carrie: Oh, my God, this competition, it's always been in your head. You did everything you could to make it real, didn't you? And you still are.
Sami: Excuse me?
Carrie: Oh... asking Austin to move into the loft with you.
Sami: I was trying to be nice. He didn't have anywhere else to go, and you were halfway around the world--
Carrie: I was working on John's case.
Sami: Right. Because John is more important than your husband. No wonder my mother likes you best.
Carrie: Oh, Sami. Please just tell the truth for once in your life. You saw an opportunity to hurt me, and you jumped on it.
Sami: No, no. I was actually just trying to do something nice for Austin. He was upset because you practically walked out on him, and I thought it'd be nice for him to get to know my kids.
Carrie: Oh, ho, ho, ho. Now who's the liar? That is--that--that--that's all you know how to do, isn't it?
Sami: Shut up.
Carrie: No. You lied about Austin getting into bed with you. You lied about will being his child. You lied about our ability to have children together. What? No defense, Sami? No? Okay, good. You know what? Because now I'm just getting started.
Abigail: Why would you go back to Carrie after what she has done to you?
Austin: Because we both made mistakes. And because my marriage is worth fighting for. I love my wife, Abby.
Abigail: Then how could you make love to me? Maybe you don't remember it, but I do. That night meant something to me. And now you just wanna act like it never happened because you think you owe it to Carrie?
Austin: Abby, I owe it to her because she is my wife.
Abigail: So you just used me then? I was just easy to you?
Austin: No, absolutely not. That is not--that's not what happened.
Abigail: Do you love me? At all? Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
Austin: Abby, I--
Abigail: No, don't. Don't say you're sorry. Because you're not. I am such an idiot. I am so stupid. I thought you cared about me. I thought...
Jennifer: So have you made a decision?
Abe: Uh, yes. Yes, I have. It's tempting, isn't it? To let this pollster go ahead and adjust the votes. Guarantee me the election.
Jennifer: Yeah, 'cause he believes in you. He believes in your vision, Abe. And he is deathly afraid of what could happen if EJ wins.
Abe: You wanna believe in me too. And that's why I can't do it. I've already compromised my principals--
Jennifer: No, Abe, you didn't.
Abe: If I go so far as to steal this election outright, I'm no better than EJ. And I wanna be able to look my wife in the eyes. I wanna be the man she sees when she looks at me. Otherwise there's no point in all this.
Carrie: How can you attack me for going after your husband after all the times and all the ways you went after mine? When are you gonna stop blaming me for everything?
Sami: When you stop trying to ruin my life.
Carrie: You bring this stuff on yourself, Sami. You are the most self-destructive person I have ever met.
Sami: Not this time, Carrie. Not this time. This time, you screwed up. And you're gonna have to answer to Austin when he sees that you can't hide the truth anymore.
Carrie: Oh, yeah? What truth is that?
Sami: That you're a whore. You need proof? Look at the way you threw yourself at Rafe, just like you did Mike Horton all those years ago. And this time when Austin leaves you, it'll be for good.
[Door shutting]
Austin: What the hell is going on in here?
John: Sweetheart, do you have any doubts about my love for you?
Marlena: No, none.
John: Then why are we doing this? Hope and I were under Stefano's control. None of what went on then was of our free will, period, end of story.
Marlena: You had a relationship with hope. You thought you were in love with her.
John: This is insane, it wasn't real.
Marlena: John. The feelings felt real, and the feelings are still there. You and hope shared something.
John: No, what I share with you is the only thing that is real. And Stefano cannot change that, not with a piece of paper, and that is all he has.
Marlena: Is it? The worst thing we can ever do is underestimate Stefano. Look, his--his games are incredibly complex. He plots them out years in advance, and by the time the victim figures it out, it's too late.
Melanie: So, um, what do you wanna do?
Chad: Uh, well, the indie theater is showing a midnight screening of the princess bride. I thought in honor of Valentine's Day, maybe we can go see that.
Melanie: That's one of my favorite movies.
Chad: Mm-hmm, why do you think I suggested it? How 'bout, uh--how 'bout I pick you up early, maybe we can grab some dinner.
Melanie: Like, our first date?
Chad: It's a good day to do it, don't you think?
Will: Okay, listen. My mom's not gonna tell anybody anything. Don't worry.
EJ: Really? How could you be so sure after your own little...slip up that it's not just gonna come out in the heat of the moment, William?
Will: Because there's no one else for her to tell. Rafe moved out.
EJ: She told Rafe?
Will: No, no, no. No, he has no idea.
EJ: Then why'd he move out?
Will: It wasn't a choice. She kicked him out.
EJ: Why did she kick him out?
Will: Because she saw him kissing Aunt Carrie.
EJ: She--
Will: Yeah.
EJ: Really?
Will: Mm-hmm. I guess she forgot that she had sex with, uh, you, which in my opinion is a lot worse.
EJ: Well, William, your mother's views on what constitute a personal slight comes with somewhat of a personal bias.
Will: Yeah. So anyway, uh, point made. She's not gonna tell Nicole anything.
EJ: I hope so, William. For your sake, I hope so.
Austin: What are you doing here, Sami?
Sami: Oh, I came here to tell Carrie exactly how I feel about her.
Austin: Why would you wanna do that?
Carrie: Because all she wants to do is hurt me, and blame me for everything. I tried to apologize to her, she doesn't wanna hear it.
Sami: Oh, I can't take it. The "poor me" thing is over. I don't buy it, and Austin's not gonna buy it either.
Austin: Hey, hang on a second, wait a second. I don't need you to speak for me, okay? And I don't need you to tell me what our marriage means to your sister. And that's why we've decided to put what happened behind us and move past it. Okay? Together.
John: Do you trust me?
Marlena: With all my heart and soul.
Nicole: Thank you, excuse me.
[Phone ringing]
Nicole: It's Nicole. What? No, that can't happen. It'll cost EJ the election. I don't know what you should do. I have to think about it. I'll call you back. Oh, ha!
EJ: Found you.
Nicole: Yay.
EJ: Hey, is something wrong?
Nicole: No. No, no, no, everything's fine.
EJ: You sure?
Nicole: Yeah. Come on, EJ, look at all this, huh? Everything's going as... exactly as it should.
Abe: You know, I can't let this election change who I am. Already crossed the line once, slipping EJ those fake questions for the debate. We've seen the vote count. I can't do that.
Jennifer: Yeah, that's good. I am so relieved to hear you say that.
Abe: You are?
Jennifer: Yes. Yes, I am. I-I knew that you would make the right decision. I-I just had to ask.
Abe: Well, tell our pollster friend, "thanks, but no thanks."
Lexie: Hey, what's going on over here?
Both: [Laughing]
Abe: I was just telling Jennifer how much your faith in me means.
Lexie: Sweetheart, of course, I have faith in you, okay? I believe in you more than anyone in this whole world.
Sami: I cannot believe you are gonna stay with her after this. Are you insane?
Austin: Sami, look, I don't need to explain the decisions we make in our marriage to you.
Sami: Austin, you don't understand. What happened between them wasn't a mistake.
Carrie: Sami, that is enough.
Sami: You didn't see them kissing, I did.
Austin: I don't care, okay? I don't care.
Sami: You should. You should care. I don't care what your wife says. It didn't just happen.
Austin: Okay, you know what? You need to leave.
Sami: No.
Austin: Okay? Yes.
Sami: I am not going anywhere, not until you tell me. Tell me to my face you're not in love with my husband.
