Nicole: [Murmuring] Damn. EJ! I forgot my keys. Can you open up? It's cold out here. [Groans] Ah. EJ, where are you? Hello? Oh. Oh, hey!EJ: You walked right into my little trap.
Nicole: You know, I hate when you do that.
EJ: Really?
Nicole: Mm-hmm. Seriously?
EJ: Mm-hmm.
Nicole: Oldest trick in the book. Really?
EJ: Shut up.
Nicole: Oh.
Melanie: Maggie, when you move, you need to bring this oven with you, because it's magic. Oh, good call.
Daniel: Yeah, it probably has nothing to do with her cooking, huh?
Melanie: I don't know, maybe.
Maggie: Oh, my god. It's magical how those cookies keep disappearing. Could you at least tell your daughter to stop eating the cookies?
Melanie: Me?
Daniel: Stop eating all her cookies.
Melanie: He's eating them all.
Daniel: I'm not eating all her cookies.
Maggie: Well, I...
Daniel: All right, that's the last one.
Maggie: I hope so. Because there won't be any left for Jennifer's tree-trimming party.
Melanie: Mm. Darn.
Maggie: I can't tell you what it means to me that the two of you are gonna be there. I think hanging those ornaments is my favorite of all the Horton family traditions.
Daniel: Well, we wouldn't miss it for the world.
Melanie: Mm-mm.
Maggie: Well, then we better get going. Oh, honey, would you start putting those cookies in the--
Daniel: In the what?
Maggie: I forgot.
Daniel: What? Forgot what?
Maggie: The accident. My Christmas cookie jar was broken.
Melanie: Yeah, that's not the only thing that was broken.
Daniel: What are you tal-- what happened? What did you do?
Melanie: I didn't do anything. Will Horton happened.
Johnny: Mommy, stop doing that.
Sami: Sorry. Sorry, sweetie. I just like knowing you're there.
Allie: Will, will you help me? I can't reach.
Rafe: I'll help you, honey. Ready? One... up. Ugh.
Allie: Mommy, does that look good?
Sami: It's perfect. You know what, it's perfect just like this Christmas is perfect, 'cause we're all here together.
Rafe: Yes. That's why this is gonna be the best Christmas ever.
Sami: Sure is. There you go. You haven't hung one ornament.
Will: I guess I'm not in the mood.
Sami: You want me to turn on some Christmas carols?
Will: No, thanks. That's not gonna help. You know what, mom, I wouldn't even be here if it weren't for the kids.
Sami: We could call Gabi. Maybe she could join us.
Will: I said I don't want to talk about that.
Sami: Why don't you just join in? Maybe you'll get in the mood.
Will: Okay. Why don't you just leave me the hell alone?
Bo: It's like some kind of veiled I.O.U.
Hope: Why would Stefano owe Gran anything?
Bo: Yeah. And why would he give her that paperweight talking about their bond? What does this mean?
Hope: We need to confront Stefano.
Bo: Damn right we do.
Hope: No, no, no, not just about this, but also about Susan's letter to Gran asking for medical help from EJ. Maybe we have time to see him before everyone shows up for the tree-trimming.
Bo: Let's hit the road.
Hope: Yeah.
Jennifer: Remind me to put the platter out for aunt Maggie's cookies. Oh, you're here. Great.
Bo: Hi.
Jennifer: Okay, there is still tons to do.
Bo: Yeah, right. Guess Stefano's gonna have to wait.
Sami: I know you're going through a rough time, will, but you do not get to talk to me like that.
Will: Apparently I do.
Sami: What is it? What has happened to you? Is it Gabi? Is that what this is about?
Will: I told you, I don't want to talk about that.
[Knock at door]
Will: I'll get it.
[Door opens]
Will: Hey.
Austin: Hey.
Will: Austin, how you doing?
Austin: Good. [Whistles] Sure is cold out there. Hey, little dudes. Beautiful Christmas tree.
Will: So, where's aunt Carrie?
Austin: She's--she's on her way up. She's got a big surprise for you.
Sami: Well, if she's finished all her Christmas wrapping, I'm gonna be so annoyed with her.
Austin: Sami, um... I think I should tell you...
Sami: Hey, Carrie.
Carrie: Hi.
Sami: Austin was just telling me you have a big surprise for me.
Carrie: Yeah.
Nicole: Well, this just looks lovely. It's a shame that we have to rush through it, so chop-chop. Sit.
EJ: Okay, we are not rushing through anything. Let's eat.
Nicole: Okay, but you do know we have to get to the tree lighting ceremony in the town square.
EJ: We're going to take a pass.
Nicole: You can't take a pass, okay? This is a huge public event with a ton of free press.
EJ: Uh-huh, and I don't care. I think you and I have done plenty of hard work. The campaign is going very well. So tonight we're going to take a well-deserved break. And by break I mean, not only are we not going to work on the campaign, we're not going to talk about the campaign either. Tonight is just... the two of us.
Chad: I think it's so cool your family has all these traditions.
Abigail: I still thinks it's kind of weird to be hanging the Horton ornaments tonight instead of on Christmas eve like we always do.
Jennifer: I know, sweetie. I just wanted to do it earlier because I thought it would be great. We can have the tree up longer. Don't you think?
Jack: Hey, sorry I'm late, everybody, but look what I've got for the stairs.
Jennifer: What are you doing here?
Jack: What do you mean, what am I doing here? I'm here for the annual Horton tree-trimming.
Abigail: Mom, I invited him. I just thought, since he has an ornament and everything, he should be here.
Jennifer: Um, yeah, that's fine. That's fine.
Maggie: I put the cookies in the kitchen. Jack. What a surprise.
Jack: Well, that's obvious.
Daniel: Well, I didn't expect to see you here.
Jack: And vice-versa. So, well, ho ho ho.
Will: Hi. Oh, my gosh, I'm so glad you're here.
Marlena: Mm-hmm. Me too, sweetheart.
Will: So glad. Hey, munchkins. Look who's here.
Marlena: Hello. Hi, there.
[Clapping]
Marlena: Here we go. [Laughs] Ooh-hoo. Yum-yum-yum-yum-yum. My sweet babies. Wow, don't you just love this month?
Johnny: Grandma, come see our advent calendar.
Allie: Great-grandma gave it to us.
Marlena: Oh, how nice. I would love to. Let's do that, shall we? Okay. Here we go. Here we go. Where is it?
Johnny: We take turns opening the doors.
Marlena: Oh, lovely manners. I like that the most.
Sami: Who the hell do you think you are?
Carrie: Your sister.
Sami: You brought her here without checking with me.
Carrie: She is your mother.
Sami: Yes, my mother. Not yours. How could you do that? How could you bring her here?
Carrie: Hey, did you see how happy the kids were?
Sami: I told you just yesterday that I was not ready to see her.
Carrie: It's Christmas, Sami.
Sami: You had no right to bring her here.
Rafe: Sami. She was just trying to help.
Austin: That's right, Sami.
Rafe: And, in my opinion, she did the right thing.
Jennifer: I-I am so sorry this happened. Um... I had invited Daniel to be here, and... and I would really like to avoid all of this.
Jack: Okay. No, it's okay. I totally understand. I'll just--I'll say my good-byes to Abigail and be on my way.
Jennifer: Um, you don't have to go. I mean, we're all adults here. Right?
Daniel: Yes, we are. Last I checked. So what about those bears, huh?
[Doorbell rings]
[Door opens]
Julie: Hello.
Maggie: Ciara. Oh, your dress is so pretty. Oh, my goodness, gracious.
Ciara: Thank you, aunt Maggie.
Maggie: The cookies are in the kitchen.
Doug: Cookies? Cookies? Let's go.
Maggie: Hi. Hi.
Julie: So where's Victor?
Maggie: Um, he's out of town on business. But he was very grateful to be invited.
Julie: Oh, of course he was invited. He's family now.
Maggie: Really? I thought, maybe now that my last name isn't Horton, I wouldn't be invited myself.
Julie: Maggie, it does not matter what your last name is. You'll always be a Horton, through and through.
Maggie: [Laughs]
Sami: Carrie doesn't understand. But I thought you would.
Rafe: Come on.
Sami: You should have asked me first.
Carrie: I didn't ask you because I knew you would say no.
Sami: Right. Because I don't want her here.
Carrie: Sami, she needs you. Right now John is in jail.
Sami: Do you know that Johnny is freaking out because I can't stop touching him or putting my arms around him or holding him close to me? And you know why? Because I can't stand the thought that he ran away after being shot at. Oh, and why? Why were we shot at? Because of John. And why is John in our lives? Because of her. Because she chose that unstable nut job instead of our father.
Carrie: You named Johnny after John.
Sami: Don't remind me.
Carrie: Marlena needs you. Don't shut her out. Don't shut her out of your kids' lives. Think of them.
Sami: I am. I am thinking of them!
Carrie: No, I don't think so. Because that day was hell, but it was hell for everyone.
Sami: You don't understand what that day was like, what happened because of that day. And it will haunt me for the rest of my life.
Melanie: I don't know. I mean, I've seen people freak out at the hospital before, but I always thought will was kind of level-headed.
Abigail: I think he was just, I don't know, blindsided by Gabi. I mean, he thought they were moving in together, and she ended up breaking up with him.
Melanie: Yeah.
Chad: You don't think trashing Maggie's kitchen is kind of an overreaction?
Abigail: Hey, you're supposed to be his friend.
Chad: I am. I'm just kind of worried about him, you know.
Melanie: It's fine. I brought it up, and I shouldn't have. I know will's a great guy. Just goes to show you, sometimes we all have our moments.
Sami: Instead of trimming my tree now, I have to go kick my mom out of my apartment. Thanks a lot.
Rafe: Sami. Sami.
Sami: Rafe, come on, you don't understand.
Rafe: Would you hold on a second? You know, just think. Think about how this is going to affect the kids. Hey, I'm on your side, you know that. Okay, I just--I don't think we should make a bad situation worse. Not when we're supposed to be having family time. Okay?
Sami: Okay. But Carrie shouldn't have done this.
Austin: I told you this was a bad idea.
Carrie: I had to do something. It's the holidays. They can't go on like this.
Austin: Carrie, we're talking about your sister here. If you think that you can just smooth this thing over, you're fooling yourself. You know that.
Rafe: I just think that, no matter how mad you are at your mom right now, she's family. And there's nothing you can do about it without making it awkward for the kids. There's no way you can get her to just leave. So just hang in there. Please. For tonight.
Sami: Keep my mouth shut?
Rafe: Well, I wouldn't have said it that way. But yeah. Yeah.
Sami: You know how I hate to do the right thing.
Rafe: Yeah, well, I'll put in a special word to Santa. How's that? Hmm?
[Laughter]
Marlena: [Clears throat] They're so cute in there. They're making little holiday cards, and they're making John some snowflakes out of white paper.
Rafe: [Chuckles]
Sami: Sweet, he'll be able to decorate his cell.
Rafe: How about I get you some egg nog?
Marlena: I think I'll wait till we trim that tree. I like to feel like I've earned my egg nog.
Rafe: Ah.
Sami: Hey, mom, will you be in charge of the tinsel? Nobody decorates a tree better than you. Here, let me get your coat.
[Muffled chatter] All right, mom, tell us what to do.
Marlena: Uh, just first wash my car.
Sami: [Chuckles]
[Chatter]
Abe: So John made me promise not to visit him till after the election, but that's John.
Lexie: Thanks.
Abe: He's in jail for something he didn't do, he's worried about my campaign.
Bo: Sorry.
Lexie: Yeah, well, hey, you know, of course he did after that stunt EJ pulled. I mean, making political use of your friendship with John? I just love watching my brother turn into my father.
Hope: You know, Gran used to always that a man even like Stefano can't be all bad.
Abe: Well, Alice was a saint.
Lexie: Yes. Yes, she was. Which is why everyone loved her.
Hope: Even your father?
Lexie: Excuse me?
Hope: I was just wondering if your father ever mentioned Gran.
Lexie: Well, I know he respected her. Um, other than that, I don't remember anything specific. Why? Why do you ask?
Hope: You know me. Just...just curious.
Melanie: I sometimes wonder what it would be like to grow up in a family like this.
Chad: Huh. Me too. They all seem to like each other. What a concept.
Melanie: Hand me one of those--those little hangy things over there.
Chad: Yeah, sure.
Melanie: Thank you.
Chad: Oh.
Melanie: Sorry.
Chad: Sorry.
Melanie: No, it's--it's my fault. I'm, um--I'm gonna, um, uh, go see if Maggie needs some help in, um, in the kitchen.
Chad: Okay.
Melanie: Okay.
EJ: I almost forgot about your present.
Nicole: Isn't it a little early for presents?
EJ: Yeah, you're right. It probably is a little bit too early for presents. I'm sure...you wouldn't want it anyway. Maybe I can give it to you for Christmas, something like that.
Nicole: It's a small box. Expensive jewelry comes in a small box. Okay, gimme, gimme, gimme. Hand it over.
EJ: Yeah?
Nicole: Thank you very much. My present. I don't have anything for you.
EJ: That's okay. It's not a quid pro quo-type deal. You should open it up. It's kind of a present for me as well, if you--well, you'll see.
Nicole: You're gonna share my jewelry?
EJ: Maybe.
Nicole: Hey, it's not jewelry. It's a business card.
EJ: And?
Nicole: Nate Berkus?
EJ: Uh-huh.
Nicole: The interior designer on TV? You're giving me an interior designer on TV?
EJ: No, dummy, I thought you might like to have somebody come in and spruce the house up a bit.
Nicole: Why would I want to do that?
EJ: Because I'd like you to come and live with me again.
[Chatter]
Sami: All right.
Carrie: Oh, um, I have some news. Austin and I have some news. We are staying in Salem permanently.
Marlena: Oh. Wonderful.
Rafe: That's great news.
Carrie: Austin got a job at Salem U.
Marlena: Oh! Congratulations! Oh.
Austin: Thank you.
Carrie: And that means you and I can continue working on John's case.
Rafe: Yeah.
Marlena: Wow. I can't tell you what that means to me.
Carrie: Marlena, I want to tell you some-- well, can...
Marlena: What? What? What's happening here?
Rafe: You kind of have to now.
Marlena: Tell me, tell me.
Carrie: Okay, okay. Don't make too much of this because it's a long shot.
Marlena: You found something that will help prove John's innocent?
Carrie: Well, it's something that could lead to something. I don't know if John told you, but, in the photo from the paris cafe, there are shadows.
Marlena: You mean somebody else was in the picture.
Both: No.
Marlena: Oh.
Rafe: There's a discrepancy in the background. John's picture appears as though it was taken at midday, whereas the background shadows appear as though they were taken in the afternoon.
Will: So it was photoshopped.
[Thud]
Sami: Oh, Johnny!
Rafe: No, no, Sam--Sami. It was just will.
Sami: Oh, god. God, I thought...
Marlena: Honey, it's fine. It's just fine.
Sami: Don't touch me.
Marlena: Sami, really.
Sami: You're talking about John, and the whole world disappears. It's just John this and John that, and is he innocent, is he not? Are there shadows, are there not? Who cares? I swear to god, I just hope he rots in prison for the rest of his life.
Lexie: Okay, we'll see you all later at the square, right?
Abe: All right. Take care. See you soon.
Hope: We wouldn't miss it.
Bo: Drive careful.
Hope: Oh, my gosh, it's cold. Bye!
Lexie: Bye!
Hope: Whoo!
Maggie: And these are for you.
Daniel: Thank you.
Melanie: Wow.
Maggie: I know you're not technically Hortons, but everyone wanted you to feel like part of the family.
Melanie: [Weeping] Well, we already did, but this-- this makes it so special. Thank you.
Maggie: Aw. [Laughs] Ahh. [Gasps]
Julie: You may hang this on the tree for Victor in absentia.
Maggie: Ah, Julie. Thank you.
Julie: You know, I thought I had seen everything. Who would have thought it? Victor Kiriakis has a place on the Horton Christmas tree.
[Laughter]
[Sighing]
Jack: You know, I remember when Alice gave me this. We'd just announced our engagement.
Alice: I expected something like this announcement, so I wanted to be prepared. Welcome to the family.
Jack: Thank you. Thanks. She welcomed me into this family when a lot of people had just written me off. I'll always be grateful to her for that.
Jennifer: Yeah. Me too.
Nicole: You really want me to move back in with you?
EJ: It's where you belong.
Nicole: You know what's funny is this is the first place I've ever really considered home. The home I grew up in was like a prison, not a home. I mean, my father, he's... anyway, I won't talk about it. But you and me and Johnny and Sydney, we were happy here for a while, and this was home.
EJ: I know. I was very happy, Nicole.
Nicole: Of course, me being me, I managed to screw everything up.
EJ: Look, you weren't the only person who was a part of that.
Nicole: Yeah, yeah, well, okay.
EJ: Okay?
Nicole: I was mostly part of that.
[Laughter] I mean, I realize now that, I mean, all I did was lie over and over and over again because of Sami.
Marlena: You have been through so much lately. The stress is--
Sami: Oh, right. Right, he's not guilty. I'm just crazy?
Marlena: He's not guilty.
Sami: John confessed in a courtroom.
Marlena: He confessed to keep us all safe.
Sami: Right. Right, because he's a hero. Well, he's not a hero. He's a criminal, and he's dangerous.
Marlena: Do you hate him that much?
Sami: I can't stop thinking about how I was clutching at my children, trying to prevent them from getting shot, because of him. So I really don't care if he's guilty or not. I just want him out of our lives.
Marlena: That day was hell for all of us. But I can't believe you don't accept what John's done for us. He sacrificed himself for this family. And you are being... you're being disloyal.
Sami: Disloyal? You don't get to use that word in my house. Everything that I have been through, practically every bad thing in my entire life, has happened because of you and John. Because you two do whatever you want, whenever you want. You don't care about the consequences. You don't care about anyone but yourselves. You are so unbelievably selfish.
Will: Are you kidding me? How dare you talk to her like that? You are such a hypocrite!
Sami: Will.
Will: I'm sorry, you're calling her selfish?
Carrie: Maybe we should go.
Sami: Let's take a walk.
Will: Oh, why, so I won't embarrass you?
Sami: So you can tell me why you're angry at me. Come on. Let's just go outside...
[Knock at door]
Will: Oh, it's a party, right? Let the good times roll? Huh? Hello. Mr. Mayor, it's an honor. Theo, merry Christmas, man. Come on in. Come on in.
Lexie: Um, is this a bad time?
Will: No. No, this is a great time. Come on. Come on, the party's just getting started. Huh?
Abe: Okay, let's go. There you go.
All: Hi.
Carrie: Hey, Theo. All the kids are in the back playing in the room. Why don't you go find 'em? I'll bring in some cookies. Okay.
Lexie: Thank you.
EJ: You don't think this was Samantha's fault?
Nicole: No. No, that's--that's not what I meant. I know what I did was wrong, but...
EJ: Come on. What?
Nicole: Well, she--I just-- she was always this dark cloud of rain over us, you know? And I always thought you were gonna leave me for her. It drove me crazy. I know it's not an excuse for what I did, but it drove me crazy.
EJ: There were things that we all did, I think.
Nicole: Yeah. And that's--that's what I like so much about now. You know, I don't feel like I'm competing with anyone. I just feel like it's you and me.
EJ: That's because it is just you and me. Nicole, you're the only woman I want to be with. The only one that I love.
Nicole: One more time I'm just gonna throw this out there. And Sami?
EJ: You're being serious? I'm sorry--no. Completely out of my system. 100%. 100%.
Nicole: Okay. Well, I guess you guys realized you weren't a match when she shot you in the head. I mean, you would have to be crazy to go back to that mess. Crazy.
EJ: Yeah. Yeah. Crazy, right?
Nicole: But you're not, and I'm not.
EJ: No.
Nicole: Well, not anymore anyway.
EJ: Just a little--
[Laughter]
Nicole: That's enough. Okay.
EJ: Is that a yes?
Nicole: Well, I mean, we--we still have a few issues, but... I feel like we're on more solid ground now, so I accept your offer. I would love to move back in with you.
EJ: I promise you, I am going to spend all of my time making you very, very happy.
Rafe: So...look what I found. [Chuckles]
Marlena: Oh, what is it?
Rafe: Sami. When we got married, Sami and the kids and I, we all tied these together, and they symbolize our marriage bond. When we got married, we took 'em, we hung 'em from a tree in a clearing, and, well, last Christmas, we decided to hang it on the tree, and now it's tradition.
Marlena: Wow.
Sami: Which she would know if she'd asked me anything about my wedding.
Carrie: Sami, come on.
Rafe: So how about that egg nog now?
Marlena: Not a moment too soon.
Rafe: Yeah. Well, I would also like to propose a toast. A toast to everyone being here tonight.
Will: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Actually I want to protos-- propose a toast first, um, to you and to grandma Marlena... for being like saints.
Rafe: Will.
Will: I'm serious. You have to be a saint to put up with all of--all of her crap.
Marlena: Wait a minute, young man.
Austin: Hey, will. Come here. Come here. What's going on with you, man?
Will: [Laughs] You--you're a saint too. Aren't you? I mean, she lied to you... and told you that I was your son for years, and you still forgave her? [Mumbling] I don't know.
Rafe: Okay, will. That's enough. Okay? Are you drinking?
Will: 'Tis the season.
Rafe: You're underage.
Will: Oh, busted. You are such a good detective. Really, though, hey, you're such a good guy. You deserve so much better than my mom.
Rafe: Hey, that's enough.
Will: Especially after what she just did to you.
Rafe: What are you talking about? What did she do to me? Great prices. I just wish you could guarantee me
EJ: [Sighs] There we go. I put another log on the fire, so we should be warm enough... uh, for you.
Nicole: It is a little drafty in here. Maybe we should snuggle up by the fireplace and conserve body heat.
EJ: You know, I think I know another way to conserve body heat.
Nicole: Yeah?
EJ: Mm-hmm.
Will: What am I talking about? I'm talking about the way that she treats you. She blamed you when Johnny was missing, and you were the one who found him.
Rafe: Yeah, well, that's between me and your mother.
Will: I'm just pointing out that she's a bitch. [Scoffs]
Rafe: Will...
Will: Which, I guess that makes me a son of a bitch.
Sami: Stop it. Stop it.
Will: [Laughs] I'm sorry. Am I out of line? Am I--am I doing something wrong?
Rafe: Will, you listen to me right now. Here's what you're gonna do. You're gonna apologize to your mother, and then you're gonna go to your room. You're gonna sleep this off. Do you hear me?
Will: Ah, man. Ain't it something how we always end up apologizing to her. I have a better idea. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'M...
Rafe: I'm gonna go make sure he's okay.
Sami: Hey, everyone, I'm really sorry about that.
Lexie: Oh, please, I mean, you--compared to my family's drama, that was nothing.
Abe: You know, we've got to go. We'll get Theo.
Lexie: Yeah, yeah, we'll say our good-byes on the way out.
Marlena: The shooting, your son going missing... there's been so much stress. He didn't mean that.
Sami: I think he did.
Abigail: Will never texted me back. I guess he and Allie aren't coming.
Hope: Oh, no.
Doug: Well, then I guess we might as well get started. Ooh. Maggie.
Melanie: Yay. The winner.
[Laughter]
Tonight I am thinking of you the memories we shared old and new I feel at home all safe and warm thanks to you never alone tonight I'll be dreaming of you the dreams that we've shared have come true I am at home always at home thanks to you never alone I am at peace tonight I am at peace you are my light tonight always keep shining memories that we've shared memories that we've shared shine on
Abe: As some of you may know, every Christmas the Hortons hang ornaments on their tree with the names of each family member. Now what you see behind me is a replica of that tradition. But with a twist. We have ornaments that represent the charitable organizations that are the backbone of Salem and our troops who so bravely serve to defend our freedom. One year, my great friend Alice Horton explained to me the idea behind this. She said that she and tom couldn't possibly expect everyone to make it home for every Christmas. But the ornaments with the names of the family would serve as a reminder of loved ones scattered across the globe, or who have passed on. And that's what Salem is all about. It's about family. It's about the ties that bind us all together. It's about keeping our love strong in the face of separations and hardships. Salem, quite simply, is home. All right, son. It's time.
All: Oh!
[Applause]
Deck the halls with boughs
of holly
fa la la la la la la la la
'tis the season
to be jolly

Quinn: I'm happy to arrange a side-by-side couples' massage for the two of you.
Hope: Susan, please, don't hang up.
Sami: I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Madison: No, you know what, stop saying you're sorry.
