Stefano: Elvis.

EJ: It's not ringing.

Stefano: This is enough of this, all right? It's time for you to stand up and be a man.

Gabi: Will, look, I know the police are gonna find your brother. I know it. And just because they found that shirt doesn't mean anything.

Carrie: Dad says they still have the entire force out looking for Johnny.

Will: Thank you. I know that you're trying to make me feel better, but that's actually not why I'm here.

John: Why are you here, son?

Will: Uh, to apologize to you guys for my mom. And I know she didn't mean the things that she said. She didn't. But--

Marlena: Oh, sweetheart. Your mother is worried sick about her little boy. We all are. And the fact is, part of Sami's anger and what she was expressing are about things that happened long before you were born.

Carrie: You don't need anything else to worry about right now.

Will: So I should just stay out of it?

John: No, I think what they're trying to say is it's not up to you to make this right.

Marlena: Darling, your mother and I have been through some very tough times. We came through them. We'll come through this. Right now the most important thing is to focus on finding Johnny.

Will: Um, John, can I ask you a question? After the shirt and the blood... you used to be a cop. Do you think we're gonna find him? Alive?

John: Yes, will, I do. I have faith because I have to. And, as an ex-cop, I've looked at the facts, and not only are we gonna find him, he's gonna be just fine.

Bo: We're comin' up on 24 hours of Johnny DiMera being missing. I don't need to tell you what that means. Our window of a safe return is closing, quickly. Yeah, well, we discussed this, like, 15 hours ago. Where are those people? I need 'em here on the ground right now. Damn it.

Austin: Hey.

Bo: Hey, man. What's up?

Austin: Just came to pick up some files. Prosecution asked that I turn in all copies to them.

Bo: Ah. World just keeps on turnin', doesn't it? Kid goes missing, time doesn't stop. It just somehow seems to go quicker.

Austin: I can't even imagine what Sami and Rafe are going through right now.

Bo: Well, I can tell you, there's--there's nothing like the pain of losing a child. Sami's...she's desperate right now. Very desperate. If we don't find Johnny soon... I'm afraid what she might do.

Hope: All right, thanks. Sami, baron's sold four dozen of those shirts last year in Johnny's size. Oh, I also called around to some of the other department stores, trying to cross-reference... we don't have the DNA results yet. We have to have hope.

Sami: I'm trying. I'm trying. We've waited all night for that phone to ring, and it's just not gonna ring, is it? It's not gonna ring, because they didn't take Johnny for money. They took him for revenge. They took him to get revenge against John for what he has done, but what about what he did to me and my--

Stefano: Look. Elvis, come here. No, let me have that. Come on. [Sighs] Elvis, you are exhausted, for goodness sake. Get some sleep, and then when the time is right you can do whatever you have to do to bring your son back home.

EJ: Don't.

Stefano: [Sighs]

EJ: Don't you understand? This is all my fault.

Stefano: Why?

EJ: Why?

Stefano: Why?

EJ: You know damn well why. Father, I--I built this thing from the ground up. I positioned John Black to look like a world-class criminal. I turned this entire town into a lynch mob, and now one of those... bastards... who I created, mind you... he wasn't happy just going after John. So he set his sights on an innocent, defenseless boy. My son. If Johnny--if I've lost him, that will be on me for the rest of my life.

John: And, will, just so you know, I'm really proud of you for wanting to make things right for your mom.

Will: I just wish that I could. Anyway, uh, you know, I should-- I should go. My mom's probably wondering where I am right now.

Gabi: My brother's with her. You know Rafe will take good care of her.

Marlena: Yeah. I love you so much.

Will: I love you too.

Marlena: If you need anything, just call, okay?

Will: Okay. That goes for you too.

Marlena: [Laughs]

Will: Seriously, and--and we'll let you know if--um, when we hear anything about Johnny.

Marlena: I know.

Will: Okay.

John: Thanks for coming by.

Gabi: Bye.

Marlena: Bye, sweetie.

John: Carrie. Something else on your mind?

Carrie: I'm just thinking about your case.

John: Ah.

Rafe: Hey, thanks a lot for spending the night with Sami.

Hope: I just wish there was something more I could do for her, for both of you.

Rafe: Find Johnny. That's what we need to do.

Hope: Well, I better get going. I still need to stop at home before heading to the station.

Rafe: All right.

Hope: Louis will be posted outside. I'll call the moment I hear anything.

Rafe: Okay.

Hope: Hang in there, okay?

Rafe: Yeah, yeah. Oh. Sami. Come on, you got to eat something. Okay. Not gonna let it go to waste. I'm scared too. Okay? I'm scared. So you need to eat something. We need to-- we need to stay strong for Johnny.

Sami: You think that sandwich is gonna make the difference? You think if I eat that sandwich, that it's gonna make him walk through that door? Do you think that this sandwich is the difference between that bloody shirt being him and not? Your perfect turkey sandwich is not gonna bring him back. It is not gonna change the fact that we went to that pub because of you. It is your fault that we were there, and this sandwich doesn't change that!

Austin: I'm sorry, I did not mean to be disrespectful to your son's memory.

Bo: Whoa, whoa. No, man, you-- you don't need to apologize. Just, uh, I don't-- the death of a child, it changes your whole reality. The guilt, and blame, and what-ifs.

Austin: I will always remember Zack.

Bo: Thanks, man, that means a lot to me. We just got to try to move on, you know? [Sighs] The thing is, is I keep--I keep hearing his laugh in my head, and those big, brown eyes looking up at me, saying, "hey, daddy." Nah. I'll never forget my boy... my heart won't let me.

Hope: Neither will mine.

Austin: Listen, um, this may not be good timing, but--

Bo: No, no, no, man, don't worry about it.

Austin: I did happen to take a look at those financial records from your grandmother.

Hope: You did?

Austin: Yeah, yeah, Bo asked me to.

Hope: Brady, thanks.

Bo: No problem.

Austin: I mean, I could show you what I came up with. I mean, we might as well if we're just gonna be sitting around, waiting for the phone to ring.

Hope: Oh, uh... it's up to you. It's your call.

Bo: Well, hell, yeah, let's see what you got.

Stefano: Come on, Elvis. You don't need this.

EJ: You don't know what I need.

Stefano: No, you don't need it. Trust me. I'm not gonna let you turn yourself into a martyr.

EJ: I might have a hand in my son's disappearance. Being a martyr is the least of my problems.

Stefano: Do you see what a waste of energy this is, huh? For you to blame yourself for what happened?

EJ: You don't think I'm culpable?

Stefano: If Giovanni's disappearance has anything at all to do with John Black's troubles, it is not on you.

EJ: Really? Even if I fabricated those troubles?

Stefano: No, look, those things fell all on that man himself, because of the way he acted. The man is a sanctimonious ass.

EJ: So you just think he's getting exactly what he deserves, right?

Stefano: Why, don't you?

EJ: No, I don't. The two of us, we're so accustomed to twisting things to our advantage, to changing the facts, that we can't even--even in the privacy of our own home really own up to what is going on, the cold, hard truth.

Stefano: And what is that?

EJ: That I am responsible for this. No.

Stefano: [Sighs]

EJ: I went after John Black, and my job as a father is to protect my son, and I put him in a situation that threatens his very life. I did that! No one else!

Stefano: Elvis... [Clears throat] This is the life that we have chosen. We are who we are, and nothing is gonna change that. Not now, or ever.

Sami: Our son is missing, and we don't have anything to cling to. We don't have hope. All we have is a bloody t-shirt!

Rafe: Sorry. I'm sorry.

Sami: What are you sorry for? Are you sorry because you didn't listen to me, or are you sorry that you're the one who insisted that we all go to the pub?

Rafe: No. Listen, if I say yes, is it gonna make a difference?

Sami: No. No, it doesn't. It doesn't make a difference. You wanted us to be together as a family, but John can't go from one room to the next without a bulletproof vest. And it never occurred to you that maybe we should just keep our children away from him? I mean, it's a miracle that we weren't all shot and killed at the pub. I should just be grateful that I only lost one child yesterday. Maybe--maybe I should just be happy that there are three of them still alive, huh?

Rafe: All right, enough.

Sami: Maybe I should just think about that!

Rafe: Enough.

Sami: No, I trusted you!

Rafe: No, just--

Sami: I believed in you! I needed you to be there to help me!

Rafe: Go ahead. Go ahead.

Sami: How can you do that?

Rafe: Go ahead.

Bo: No, man, the stake guys are handling that. Yeah, there's a park down on Brooke. Check that out, you know, canvass the playground and the woods behind it. All right, keep me in the loop. Okay, you were saying?

Austin: Okay. This account has a very specific, highly-sophisticated design.

Hope: [Chuckles] Meaning you don't think my grandmother came up with this on her own.

Austin: Not unless grandma Horton was a financial genius. I--I seriously doubt it.

Bo: Okay, why is that?

Austin: This kind of setup... [Sighs] This is the kind of thing that you create when you want to move money around and you want to keep people from following your trail.

Hope: Can you tell what my grandmother was doing with this money, or who's on the receiving end of these transactions?

Austin: Well, here's what I can tell you. I know the amounts, I know the dates, but if you follow these routing numbers right here, what you get is nine different financial institutions, spread out over three continents. Including Africa.

Hope: Africa?

Bo: What the hell was Mrs. "H" up to?

Carrie: I was waiting for will and Gabi to leave before I brought this up. I have an update for you on your case.

John: I'm pleading guilty. There's nothing more for you to do.

Carrie: I know, that's why when you made your decision I decided to go and have drinks with the D.A.

John: I thought I made myself clear. I want to put an end to this.

Marlena: John, let's just hear her out.

John: No. My situation's caused enough damage already. What happened to Johnny, what's going on with Sami, and Rafe, and will, he's--

Carrie: I'm just as concerned about them as you are, but they're not my clients.

John: That's right, they are your family.

Carrie: So are you. Look, I know you want to plead guilty, and that's your right, but I am your attorney, and it's still my job to minimize the damage as best I can.

John: You still didn't answer my question. What did you do?

Will: Mom, okay, enough. Enough! Mom, stop it. Listen to me, okay? Rafe loves you and he loves Johnny. Why are you blaming him for this? This is not his fault.

Sami: I don't expect you to understand.

Will: What is there to understand, mom? Johnny is missing, and that is what we should be focused on!

Sami: He's missing because I didn't trust my instincts. Because I went to the pub, I took all of you to the pub, and I should've known better.

Will: I made--I wanted to be there, mom. I made that choice for myself.

Sami: Did your brother? Did your six-year-old brother make that choice? No, he didn't. He went because I told him that's where the family was going. It wasn't safe at the pub, will, and we should have known better.

Will: How, mom? How could you have known what was gonna happen? How could Rafe have known what was gonna happen?

Rafe: I appreciate what you're doing, will. I do. Defending me. But your mom's right. I'm the one who pushed us to go to the pub yesterday. I did it. Johnny wouldn't have been anywhere near there if it wasn't for me. Johnny would be home right now if I hadn't done that.

EJ: Is that another one of your realizations? "This is the life we lead."

Stefano: Our family has always lived by their own rules.

EJ: Yes, I'm well aware of that.

Stefano: And, you know, those rules have given us a lot of rewards, my dear friend. But don't be a fool and think that there is not a price. The price is sometimes--is just too much to bear.

EJ: What exactly are you trying to say, hmm?

Stefano: Despite all our power, we are not always in control.

EJ: Are you saying this is justified? That I should just accept that this is the cost of doing business? My son is not collateral damage. He is my son!

John: [Sighs] What happened when you met with the D.A.?

Carrie: First, what I need you both to understand is there are no promises here, no guarantees.

Marlena: Understood.

Carrie: When I sat down with the D.A., I told him I was about to offer him a deal to give the people the justice that they've been looking for since this whole thing broke if he was willing to cut a deal.

John: Yeah, what kind of deal?

Carrie: I hinted that you would be willing to plead guilty to lesser charges if he was willing to offer a reasonable sentence in return.

Marlena: Oh. Wow. That sounds good. Doesn't it sound good?

John: Yeah, yeah, it sounds good. Thank you.

Carrie: Well, don't thank me yet. I'm still waiting to see if the D.A. Will take my offer.

Marlena: But you've given us hope here, and we really--we really appreciate that.

Hope: Nine financial institutions, three continents? I don't know what to make of this.

Austin: Look, I'm gonna keep investigating, and that'll give us a better idea of where the money's actually going.

Hope: What you've been able to uncover so far is amazing, so thank you very much.

Austin: [Sighs] Hope, look... this is none of my business, but somebody obviously went to a lot of trouble to cover their tracks here so I have to ask you guys the question... [Sighs] Is it possible that your grandmother was being blackmailed?

Hope: In the beginning, we-- we thought the same thing.

Austin: But not anymore?

Hope: The one thing that swayed us was the person in the center of it all, my grandmother. Austin, you knew her, there's no way blackmail was ever an option.

Bo: So we let it go, decided to look at it from a different angle. Austin: Okay, but I just have to make sure that we're all on the same page here, because judging by your reactions, is it safe to say that blackmail is back on the table?

Rafe: I should've kept him safe.

Gabi: No, Rafe, no, this is not your fault, okay? The only person to blame here is the man that picked up that gun and started firing.

Rafe: Yeah, I wish that were true, but it's not. And the sooner we can all be honest about that, the better.

Will: I know you don't mean that. Just like my mom doesn't mean what she's saying, because we're all just scared...

Sami: Will.

Will: For John.

Sami: Please don't speak for me. I don't want to be angry at you. And I don't want to blame you. I just want him back. [Sobs]

Rafe: Sami, you know that I would do anything to get him back. I'll walk out that door and never come back in this house again if it meant we could get him back. Our family is everything to me. God, if I'd have known...

Sami: But you were supposed to know. That's what I don't understand. You were supposed to know! You're the one with the training, you're the FBI agent, you're the Salem P.D. Officer. You were supposed to know! I mean, John was in all that danger, and everybody knew that. How come you didn't know we shouldn't go there? And now we may never see Johnny again!

EJ: You claim you love my son, but you talk about him like he's dispensable.

Stefano: I never said that.

EJ: Like he's some object to be bartered, instead of the precious little six-year-old boy that he is.

Stefano: No, listen--

EJ: I don't want your money, or your wealth, or your power, because my son is irreplaceable.

Stefano: Listen to me when I say, I'm--

EJ: Not if that's the kind of nonsense you're gonna spout.

Stefano: Now, wait a moment. Hold it right there, okay? I love that boy. More than my own life! And he loves me. I'm his Nonno. When I think there's a possibility that that sweet little boy's life is in danger, it is my worst nightmare. Don't forget...I've already lost a son, you know.

EJ: At least tony had the chance to lead his own life. Johnny's just--he's just a little boy. His life is just beginning. I just want to hold him in my arms, just one last time.

Stefano: I know. I know. I know you do, I know that you do, Elvis, it's just... the way things are right now, I cannot coddle you, that's all. That's all I'm trying to say.

EJ: What is it that you keep trying to get me to surrender to?

Stefano: We don't lie down. We do not surrender, especially to bastards like John Black.

EJ: Meaning what? You're just--are you gonna go after him even harder?

Stefano: We're going to get him and whoever else is responsible for this whole thing, you understand? If any one of them touches one hair on Giovanni's head--one hair, they will rue the day that they crossed this family.

Bo: Yeah, I've got a warrant for the security cameras south of the pier. Yeah, go ahead and move on those. No, no, no, don't worry about them. I'll take care of the FBI. All right, later.

Hope: Yeah, Jen and I were going through some of Gran's personal belongings yesterday, so--

Austin: Did you find anything?

Hope: Yes, a very expensive paperweight.

Austin: And that's suspicious?

Bo: [Sighs] Had an inscription on the bottom of it.

Hope: "To Alice, a symbol of our bond."

Austin: Okay. Was it signed, and--

Hope: Yes, it was. It was signed... with a phoenix.

Austin: A phoenix, huh? So you think the paperweight was given to your grandmother by Stefano DiMera?

Bo: That's what it looks like.

Hope: So the answer to your question, Austin, is yes. Blackmail is back on the table again.

Austin: I'm sorry to say it, but I totally agree.

[Cell phone rings]

Austin: Excuse me. Yeah, this is Austin. Okay. I'll be right down. [Sighs] I got to go.

Hope: Everything okay?

Austin: No. Okay, I'm gonna go through these financial records, and I'll let you know what I find out. Then I'm gonna have a little chat with my mother.

Bo: Kate? Why?

Austin: 'Cause if there's a connection between Stefano and Alice, I bet you she knows a little something about it. And don't worry, I'll keep this quiet.

Bo: Thanks, man.

Hope: Thanks, Austin.

Austin: I'll say a prayer for Johnny.

Bo: Appreciate it.

Austin: [Sighs] I hope you guys find him.

Bo: No matter how difficult this struggle is, we're never giving up.

Hope: Never.

John: So when did the D.A. Say that he would have an answer?

Carrie: He didn't.

John: Ah.

Carrie: He just said he'd think about it.

Marlena: Well, I'd think he'd want to give one soon, wouldn't he?

Carrie: Under normal circumstances, I would agree, yes, but given Johnny's disappearance and the fact that the Bradys and the DiMeras are both involved, it's taken his focus off John for the moment.

John: You know, I would think that he would want to get me behind bars as soon as he can.

Marlena: Why would you think that?

John: Johnny is missing because a hit on me went wrong. It was done in a public place. People aren't safe around me anymore.

Marlena: Oh, gosh, John, don't say that.

John: That's just a fact. Don't back away from the truth. Stop it.

Carrie: Please, please. I'm not trying to downplay Johnny's disappearance at all, but any good prosecutor knows that there are benefits to avoiding a lengthy trial.

John: Especially when the public's hungry for a conviction.

Marlena: Do you think the D.A. Will accept a plea?

Carrie: Like I said, I can't be sure.

Marlena: All righty, well... whatever happens, we are very grateful for your help.

Carrie: Well, I really haven't done anything yet.

Marlena: But you did. Maybe the D.A. Will show some compassion for all the good John has done in this town.

Carrie: I pointed that out as well.

Marlena: I'm sure you did. So there is reasonable doubt.

Carrie: Mm-hmm.

Marlena: John is innocent, and he only is pleading guilty to protect his family.

Will: [Sighs]

Rafe: You two gonna be all right?

Will: Yeah. Um, sonny and Chad are helping us with the search, so we're gonna go meet up with them.

Rafe: That's great. That--that's great. You guys will be out there looking for your brother.

Gabi: Rafe, we're gonna find him, okay?

Rafe: Yeah.

Gabi: I know. You're the best man I know. I love you.

Rafe: [Sniffs] I love you too.

Gabi: [Sighs]

Will: Okay, well... um, I guess I will check in with you guys later.

Rafe: Yeah.

Will: Okay, see ya.

Rafe: See ya. I think maybe we should talk.

Marlena: It's been too long. It's been too long.

John: I'm gonna check and see if there's any developments on the search for Johnny.

Marlena: Okay.

[Knock at door]

Marlena: I'll get it.

John: [Sighs]

Marlena: Oh, Austin.

Austin: Hi. Hi, Marlena.

Marlena: Come on in.

Austin: Yeah, is Carrie here?

Marlena: She is. She is.

Austin: John.

John: Austin.

Carrie: Hi.

Austin: Hi.

Carrie: What's going on? Is there news about Johnny?

Austin: No, uh, unfortunately there's not. Look, this might be a little awkward, but I was down at the station and the D.A. Called.

Carrie: The D.A. Called you?

Austin: Yeah. He asked me to come down to his office and, um, he gave me this. Wanted me to give it to you.

Carrie: Why didn't he call me himself?

Austin: I'm not sure.

Marlena: It seems the D.A. Has made a decision about John's plea bargain.

John: It's gonna be all right.

Carrie: [Sighs]

EJ: I can't do this, all right? Not now.

Stefano: Elvis, Elvis, what is the matter with you?

EJ: Tell me something. What could I do to somebody that's worse than losing a child? And who do I take revenge on? When I want to take my vengeance, I don't have to look any further than the reflection in the mirror.

Stefano: No.

EJ: Just go away, all right?

Stefano: No, no, no--

EJ: Just go away! Please.

Rafe: If I could change what happened yesterday, if I could keep us from walking into that pub... I would. But I can't. I can't, Sami. All I can do is try and figure out a way for us to move forward. I'm sorry. I don't know what to do, but I know we have to try. For God's sake, we're still a family.

Sami: How? How are we still a family?

[Knock at door]

Bo: Sami, Rafe? It's Bo.

Sami: Bo.

Bo: Hey, hey.

Sami: You have news about Johnny?

Bo: Uh--

Sami: What? What? Say it!

Bo: We need to talk to you.

Carrie: [Sighs]

Marlena: Carrie. What does it say?

John: I think we already know, based on her expression. But let me take a guess. The prosecution has considered your offer very carefully, has weighed the facts and evidence in the case, and as a result, have rejected your offer of a plea agreement.-- Instead the prosecution will be seeking the maximum penalty.

Carrie: [Sobs]

Marlena: No, that's not what it says! Tell him it doesn't say that!

Carrie: I'm really sorry. I really thought--

John: Nothing to be sorry about. You said there was no promises, no guarantees, so...

Marlena: [Sobs]

John: It is what it is. [Clears throat]

Marlena: [Cries] No!

Sami: What is it? Just tell me what's going on.

Bo: Why don't you sit down, okay?

Sami: I don't want to sit down. I want you to talk to me. I want you to tell me what's happening. Is he hurt? Is he in the hospital? Tell me, is Johnny-- where--stop staring at me, and talk to me!

Hope: We got a call from a local TV station.

Sami: What, someone saw him? Someone spotted him?

Bo: Just let her finish, please.

Hope: They're about to go live with the story, an unconfirmed story, but we--we didn't want you to hear about it before we could tell you ourselves.

Sami: No.

Hope: Sami.

Bo: Sami, stop.

Hope: Sami!

Sami: No!

Bo: Sami, don't.

Stay tuned for breaking news on the search for Johnny DiMera, the young boy who went missing yesterday morning.

Bo: Sam--

Sami: No! So tell me! Tell me what they know! What aren't you saying?

Bo: A--a body was found in Brookeville.

Sami: What?

Bo: A young boy, about the same age as Johnny.

Sami: No. What--what are you--what-- what are you--no! No, no! It-- no, it's not--it's-- it's not him! It's not him. It's-- it's not. You're wrong. Stop it. Why are you looking at me like that? Stop it! It's not him! [Sobbing] It's--it's not-- it's not.

Reporter: I'm reporting to you with an update on the body of a young boy.

Rafe: Try and calm down.

Sami: What if it is him? Oh, my God, I'm so stupid. You have him, don't you? You have Johnny.
