Hope: It's that transparent, huh?

Bo: Uh-huh.

Hope: I'm sorry, I'm doing my best. I just can't stop thinking about those statements we found at Gram's. I don't know what to make of them.

Bo: Yeah, with no name on the account it's pretty difficult to know who they belong to.

Hope: The same amount of money deposited every month.

Bo: Makes no sense.

Hope: But it has to.

Hope: I mean, Brady, come on, there's gotta be a reason.

Why would Gran have these statements? Why would she keep this a secret from us all these years?

Bo: We'll figure it out.

EJ: Ladies and gentlemen...

Bo: You just gotta be patient.

Hope: What if it was a bluff?

Bo: What? Hope...

Hope: I know, I know it's crazy, but what if someone was blackmailing my grandmother?

Bo: Whoa, whoa, whoa, shh. Let's not go there. We're detectives. We'll figure this out. We'll investigate. It'll come together. Later.

Hope: Mm.

EJ: Before our mayor formally announces his intention to run for reelection...

Hope: What would I do without you to lean on, huh?

Bo: Uh, fall over. Whoa!

Hope: Ooh! And you'd catch me.

Bo: Right.

[Applause]

Bo: What the heck is that?

EJ: By formally declaring my intention to be the next mayor of Salem.

[Applause]

Victor: What in God's name?

Brady: I have no idea.

Stefano: Well done, Elvis. Very well done.

Adrienne: Have a feeling we're gonna need a few of these.

Jack: You think?

Adrienne: Okay, Jack, enough stalling. Tell me everything. Start at the beginning and don't leave anything out. Where have you been? And why haven't you been in touch with any of us, especially Jennifer?

Jennifer: [Cries]

Daniel: I got you.

Jennifer: Look at me, this is a mess--this is ridiculous. Why did he do this? Why? Why did he come back here again?

Daniel: I...

Jennifer: God, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I don't mean to do this to you.

Daniel: No, no, do not apologize--just talk to me.

Jennifer: Oh, I don't know-- I don't know what to say. I don't know what to think, I don't know what to feel. I don't know anything right now. I just--I don't want you to go.

Daniel: I will not let you go through this alone. I am with you...always. Jen, always.

Jennifer: Okay.

Daniel: Okay, come on.

Jennifer: Okay.

Daniel: I've got you.

Marlena: W disgusting. How predictably DiMera that he would do this kind of thing tonight.

John: Well, the DiMeras wrote the book on ruining a happy moment.

Roman: Yeah, the question is what does EJ really want?

Hope: Did we hear right? Please tell me we didn't.

Bo: Junior is running for mayor?

John: Afraid so.

Nicole: Well, quite a turn of events, right?

Kate: Were you surprised that your soon-to-be ex-husband is about to be mayor?

Nicole: Well, he has to win first, Kate. Politicians are behaving badly these days. EJ ought to fit right in.

Stefano: Hm.

Justin: This is unbelievable.

Rafe: Makes me sick.

Carrie: I know Bo and hope said there would be lots of surprises, but I don't think anyone saw this one coming.

Austin: I wonder if there are any more shockers on the horizon?

Rafe: Let's hope not, hmm? Now you two, you haven't seen Sami by any chance, have you?

Austin: No, not for a while.

Carrie: Why?

Rafe: Well, she said she was maybe gonna stop by and say good night to the kids, but she should have been back by now.

EJ: Ladies and gentlemen, if I may have your attention please for just a brief moment. Let us praise and honor the lord for bringing us here today on this joyous occasion. I stand before you today... because I believe that Salem has the potential to be the greatest city in America, the greatest country in the world. Now, most of you folks know that I'm not a native of this beautiful land. I come from humble beginnings, a long way from here. But it was in coming to America that I discovered the promise of a unique dream. Many years later when I was offered the position of CEO at DiMera enterprises, I accepted the job, motivated by a single, powerful idea... that I may play a small part in paying this dream forward... in rebuilding Salem. I have a dream for Salem. A dream where the richness of this city is measured not in the depths of its pockets, but in the wealth of its community. A dream of a Salem free from the drug dealers, prostitutes, charlatans, and corporate embezzlers that have reduced this town to a shadow of its former self. Tonight we look out and see the faces of old friends smiling back at us... are reminded of those better days. But we understand that one should only look to the past when one is lost. Because the future is ne behind us. Thank you.

[Applause]

EJ: And now without further ado, I would like to present your current mayor, Abe carver.

[Cheers and applause]

Hey, EJ, EJ--

EJ: Yes?

Can you tell us why you decided to jump into the race?

Rob: Hey, the current mayor is your brother-in-law--how is this going to affect your family parties?

EJ: Well, rob, why don't you come and chat with me over here?

Well, can you go on the record with us and tell us know what you know what you think of Abe's performance as the mayor right now? Just be honest with us, though.

EJ: Well, obviously I think it leaves a tremendous amount to be desired.

[Background chatter]

Roman: Don't let him get to you--it's what they do.

Hope: Knew it was bad news when the DiMeras showed up. I'm sorry, Abe.

Bo: Don't worry about it, Abe. This clown can campaign till he's an old man. No DiMera's ever gonna run this town.

Marlena: If we let this spoil our evening, then they've won something. We have to remember why we're here. To honor the memory of tom and Alice.

Brady: Any luck yet?

Nicole: With?

Brady: Figuring out what the hell EJ's up to.

Nicole: Oh... you got me.

Brady: You didn't know out this, huh?

Nicole: Well, I'm not exactly EJ's confidant. But even if he did tell me, I wouldn't have taken him seriously.

Brady: [Sighs] I don't get it. Why would anybody wanna be mayor?:

Nicole: Hm.

Brady: Bad hours, bad pay, no glory. All you get is rubber chicken dinners at the moose club.

Nicole: Well, Abe loves it.

Brady: Of course Abe loves it, 'cause Abe loves this town. He's not out for himself. He has no ulterior motive. But that son of a bitch... has a plan. And I'm gonna figure out what it is.

Carrie: The guy is clearly insane. After everything that he did to my sister, he's sick. Thinking that he can win an election with his reputation? Oh, my God, when Sami hears about this she is--she's gonna be furious.

Austin: Furious? She's gonna detonate.

[Cell phone rings]

Carrie: Oh, please don't let that be work, not tonight.

Austin: It's from the SEC. They want me to a private consult. Apparently several irregularities with a major pension fund, uh... they want me to check it out.

Carrie: Can't it wait until the morning?

Austin: They say that it's urgent. It looks like they're about to make an arrest.

Rafe: Sami, hey, it's me again. Listen, I got something to talk to you about, something I need to tell you which is really, really important. This can't wait.

Maggie: It was so beyond rude. Upstaging Abe like that? Of course, why should I be surprised? It's the DiMeras.

Victor: It was tasteless.

Maggie: It was unconscionable. You don't seem outraged.

Victor: Well, it's not going to affect Abe. His record speaks for itself.

Maggie: But to do it to Lexie, his sister. And here, of all places. Tonight was supposed to be about tom and Alice.

Victor: Mustn't let it spoil our evening, Maggie.

Maggie: It's not gonna spoil anything. But I think I need to talk to Abe and Lexie.

Victor: Go on, I'll be here.

Mage: Thank you.

Rob: Do you think Salem will have trouble warming up to a Brit as mayor?

EJ: Rob, who is to say what an American is? I mean, quien es un Americano?

Chad: Uh, what going on here?

Sonny: Your brother's running for mayor. But he did give us a plug for the website.

Chad: EJ's running for mayor.

Jennifer: It's so hard. I mean, especially the way that it ended with Jack... or it didn't. I mean, I woke up one morning and he was gone, again.

Daniel: Yeah, which is why you filed for divorce. So you could have closure.

Jennifer: Yes, which I thought that I did. Mostly--and then I saw the way that he reacted and--

Daniel: Yeah, he was surprised.

Jennifer: He was shocked and he was hurt... why do I even care? I'm sorry.

Daniel: No, don't be. Really, don't, don't. You know, I just want you to be sure that you're sure.

Jennifer: What--sure? Sure of what?

Daniel: Well, look, I don't wanna put the spotlight on you, but considering everything that's happened...el I don't know, you seem awfully concerned about Jack's feelings.

Jennifer: You're upset right now.

Daniel: I'm not upset. I'm really not, I'm not. All I want to know is do you think  --I mean, do you think you still have feelings for Jack?

Jack: So that's where I've been. Not the story you were expecting, was it?

Adrienne: Oh, Jack. [Cries] I'm just so glad you're home safe. I had no idea.

Jack: No one did. Wouldn't have worked if anyone knew.

Adrienne: And Jennifer was completely in the dark.

Jack: Had to be.

Adrienne: God, Jack, what you went through, I can't even begin to imagine.

Jack: Well, now you can read, all about it.

Adrienne: But Jack, this changes everything, don't you see?

Jack: See what?

Adrienne: You have to go to her, you have to tell Jennifer everything.

Jack: Heh.

Adrienne: No, no, no, she needs to know the truth. She deserves to know the truth. She and Abigail deserve it.

Jack: I can't.

Adrienne: No, you have to, Jack.

Jack: I tried. She couldn't hr it, she can't hear it, she's too hurt. Somebody--someone hurt her. That would--that would be me. I mean, I guess after all, I'm at fault.

Adrienne: Yes, Jack, you are. You screwed up. I'm not gonna lie to you. If you had been honest from the beginning instead of going off rogue like you always do, your family--your family would have welcomed you with open arms.

Jack: You done yet?

Adrienne: No, actually, I'm not. There's something else that's bothering me here.

Jack: What?

Adrienne: If I didn't know you any better, I would think you were deliberately trying to hurt Jennifer and Abigail

Stefano: Aah, bravo! Bravo! Elvis, I cannot-- oh, you make me so proud. That was wonderful! Your speech was terrific. Sit down, sit down, sit down. You know...

Abigail: Anyway, thank God Chad suggested we leave for a while. I was about to lose it.

Melanie: I bet.

Abigail: I mean, being near my dad like that... it just makes me crazy. You're lucky your dad's normal. Perfect.

Melanie: I don't know if I'd say normal... or perfect

Abigail: Okay, well, pretty much.

Melanie: I'm kidding, I know what you mean. I got lucky, we were friends before I even found out he was my dad. Yeah, he's pretty awesome.

Abigail: That's the way I used to feel about my dad. Growing up I loved him so much. He was my hero. And then one day he just... just disappeared, you know?

Melanie: I'm so sorry.

Abigail: I'll never understand how he could just abandon his family like that.

Melanie: How does your mom feel about your dad being back?

Abigail: She's a mess.

Melanie: Yeah. She's not the only one. I mean, I've called my dad like eight times, and he's not returning any of my phone calls. I'm starting to get worried about him.

Abigail: Hmm.

Well, color me shocked. Who knew my date had such political aspirations?

Stefano: Oh, ho, no, no, no, more than aspirations. You see, my son is going to win. Elvis is going to be the next mayor of Salem.

Kate: You were brilliant. Did you see the look on their faces? You turned Abe into an afterthought.

EJ: Democracy in action.

Stefano: Aah.

EJ: Let the people decide. Eh, Father?

Stefano: Yes.

I still think your campaign would be better served if you had the right wife.

Kate: Yeah.

Stefano: [Laughs]

Lexie: How dare you?

Steno: Alexandra.

Lexie: How dare both of you? How could you do this to Abe? I mean--to me! To me, EJ!

EJ: Lexie, this is politics. This is not personal, sweetheart, okay? I'm just trying to do what's best for the city.

Lexie: You just save your rhetoric for the campaign trail, okay? You and I both know this was personal. You humiliated my husband. And to what en I mean, really? I mean, what's really going on here? What's this really about?

Stefano: Ahem.

EJ: Is it really so hard to believe I'm just trying to make this world a better place?

Lexie: Do you really want me to answer that?

EJ: No, Lexie, please, I-- where is the harm in elevating the status of our family name? We have this truce with the Kiriakis family now. And now this.

Lexie: Mm.

EJ: This is a new era for us, I thought you would be happy.

Lexie: Ah, and if you'd just had run for office, why announce it today? You hijacked Abe's moment intentionally, EJ.

EJ: Lexie, I'm sorry if you take issue with the way in which I've handled things but I'm-

Lexie: You handle things like an amoral crook!

Kate: I think he did just fine--

Lexie: You stay out of this! But you know what? I can't stop you. I can't stop you from running. But God help me, EJ, if you continue to play dirty... you'll have to answer to me... Do I make myself clear?

EJ: Crystal.

Kate: So are you just going to let her walk away?

Stefano: [Sighs] What would you expect me to do? [Laughs] Alexandra is full of fire. She's more a DiMera than she'll ever admit. [Laughs]

Marlena: Something wrong?

John: More emails. It's progressing a lot more rapidly than I anticipated.

Marlena: You know, when I thought about coming back to Salem, I sort of imagined reconnecting with our family and, our friends. I guess that isn't happening, hm? Not after EJ's stunt and now this.

John: Listen, uh, I'm not 100% certain how or when this is gonna play out, but you need to prepare yourself.

Rafe: Sami, where the hell are you?

Tim: A call came in. We got the warrant. We're ready to move.

Rafe: No, no, not yet. We just need to hold off a little while longer, okay?

Tim: I don't think that's possible.

Rafe: You listen to me. I need to find my wife and let her know what the hell is going down, okay? Just chill.

Tim: But if we don't act now, we lose the upper hand. We've been waiting since they got back in the country. We hold off, they leave the states again, we've blown it.

Rafe: Just five, all right?

[Tim sighs]

Rafe: Fit? Come on, Sami, pick up the damn phone.

Bo: How about we try to enjoy the rest of the evening, have a drink, relax. Not think out those bank statements.

Hope: I wish I could, Brady.

Bo: Hm. Would it help if I did a little dance for you? I know... here, hang on to this, it's gonna get scary.

Hope: Eee.

Bo: I'll dance and sing. Mm-baca-mm-baca-mm-baca!

Hope: No, no, no, stop, stop. You're gonna embarrass yourself.

Bo: A little embarrassing.

Hope: You can do better than that.

Bo: H about this? Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo... I knew there was a smile in there somewhere.

Hope: Beautiful memories.

Bo: Yeah. If I'm sure there's a very logical explanation to that bank account. We'll figure it out. And you'll feel an awful lot better.

Hope: From your mouth to God's ears, Brady.

Bo: Yeah. Hey, why don't we talk to Maggie? Maybe she can help us out.

Hope: Brilliant idea. Maggie!

Maggie: Oh, hi. Just so you know, I made a rule. No discussing EJ or his ludicrous announcement, okay? I'm just gonna pretend like it never happened.

Hope: Well, actually, I wanted to talk to you about granny.

Maggie: Alice?

Hope: Yeah. Um, do you know of any reason why Gran would have an overseas bank account?

Maggie: Oh, you mean like a Swiss bank account? Oh, sure, it's where she put all that money she made from the gie: Oh, ou henut les. Swount? Okay, you're serious.

Bo: Yes, yes. Is there a reason she would stash money away? You know, maybe she had to pay somebody off?

Maggie: What?

Hope: Maggie, please, I need to know the truth.

Chad: You know, we can leave if you want, if it's too much, uh, too much drama.

Abigail: , No, no, I'm okay. I had a talk with Mel. She straightened me out. I feel better now. It's just being around friends. It helps, you know? Also...

Chad: Also what?

Abigail: Having a boyfriend as amazing as you. Who understands what I'm going through. And is so patient and understanding.

Chad: Well, if there's anything I get, it's family complications. It's kind of my specialty.

Abigail: I just wish I understood how he could do it, you know? How he could show up here with no warning and expect that I be happy to see him.

Jack: You're right. You're absolutely right. Jennifer and Abigail didn't ask for this. I left, I came back. I promised I'd never do it again, and I broke that promise. I never wanted to hurt them but that I exactly what happened.

Adrienne: It's 'cause you don't think, you just act.

Jack: My tragic flaw.

Adrienne: Well, you've been like that since I've known you. You just go off, you don't think about the consequences or how your actions are ever gonna affect anybody.

Jack: Jennifer and Abigail's response right now has just confirmed that. Maybe I shouldn't have come back.

Adrienne: Jack...

Jack: I should leave right now.

Adrienne: [Sighs]

Jennifer: [Laughs] Feelings for Jack, yeah. Yeah, I have feelings for Jack, all right. I have anger, that would be the top of my feelings right now. I el confused, I feel pain. I feel so protective of Abigail. Right now. I feel sad for her, I feel sad that her dad would walk out on her without even a second thought. So yeah, have so many feelings going on right now that I can't even sort them out, Daniel.

Daniel: All I really wanna know is, do you still love him? You loved each other once, uh, you've had a relationship, a marriage for a long time, and...

Jennifer: Yeah, you're right. Part of me will always love Jack. But if you're asking me if I want him to be back in my life, if I want him to be a part of my life again--

Daniel: Well, you know, uh, yeah, that's what I'm asking.

Jennifer: No, you don't need to ask me that.

Daniel: I just wanna know if you--

Jennifer: Look at me, I want you. I want you, I cherish you. I cherish the man that you are. I want my future to be with you. I want to spend the rest of my days with you.

Adrienne: Jack, no!

Jack: If I don't leave right, it's going to make things worse for her, right?

Adrienne: Don't you see you're doing the exact same thing--you're running away. You love her.

Jack: More than anything.

Adrienne: Exactly, so you go to her and you tell her that. You tell her everything. You tell her where you've been and why u haven't been in touch, but most of all, you say you're sorry. You get on your knees and you beg her forgiveness for not trusting her enough to tell her the truth from the beginning. You owe it to her. You go to her. Now. You go to her and you tell her everything.

Jack: Oh, thank you.

Adrienne: Oh! Oh!

Jack: Uh... wish me luck.

Adrienne: All right, you can do it. You can do it.

Maggie: Alice? Secrets? Never. Your grandmother didn't have any secrets. You know her as well as I . The woman was an open book.

Brady: Excuse me, I'm sorry to interrupt, but I was wondering if I could borrow Maggie for a minute.

Maggie: Um... hope?

Hope: Sure, absolutely. Go enjoy your evening. We'll talk later.

Brady: Just a minute.

Maggie: Yes, yes, yes, we'll talk later.

Bo: Maggie's right. Mrs. H. wasn't the kind of person to keep secrets. Especially from family.

Hope: It's true. It's true, she never did. I mean, she always made sure we knew where all the important paperwork was. Family keepsakes. She never said anything about this account.

Bo: So what do you wanna know?

Hope: Keep looking. As hard as it is to face... I've just got this terrible feeling that Maggie's wrong.

EJ: I mean, I just did what any man would have done in the same circumstances.

Rob: There's the lovely Mrs. DiMera.

Nicole: Oh, uh, wow, how did you know who I am?

Oh, the pre know everything.

Rob: We were just discussing the incident at the police station when the attacker was arrested. Is it true that Mr. DiMera saved your life?

Nicole: Uh... I wouldn't have made it without him.

Rob: Why don't you give us just a little bit more information about that?

Nicole: Actually, you're better off talking to the police because it's all a bit of a blur.

EJ: Okay, why don't we respect Mrs. DiMera's privacy.

EJ: Thank you.

Nicole: Unh! EJ, what is wrong with you? You're gonna use me for your publicity now? I don't think so.

Carrie: Looks like we're gonna have to call it a night, get back to the hotel.

Marlena: Wait a minute, no, not so soon.

Carrie: Austin has work.

Austin: Yeah, I got an assignment from the SEC. Can't be put off. We're investigating, uh, some corporate giant. All signs point at misallocation of pension funds.

Carrie: Have fun for us.

Marlena: Sure.

Austin: Welcome back, Marlena.

Marlena: Thanks, it so good to you.

Austin: Um, give my best to John black.

Marlena: Yeah.

John: Gentlemen, I know it's a lot to ask, but would you two mind having a seat for a second?

Roman: Uh, okay, John. What up?

John: Well, I need to talk. I was hoping we wouldn't have to do this tonight, but it's important and we have word it's serious.

Abe: Well, is something wrong?

John: Could be. : , Could be very serious.

Nicole: God, you just--you don't listen, you never listen, okay? You are on your own, cowboy. You don't get to use me for your publicity campaign.

EJ: Look, sweetheart, that wasn't my intention at all.

Nicole: Really.

EJ: Okay, look. Mr. Shirt asks me a question, he asked me for a quote, so all I do is nip the thing in the bud--that's it.

Nicole: With little heroic anecdotes about how you saved the day...oh.

EJ: Okay, look, I understand t that you have no intention of supporting my candidacy, and that's fine. Believe me, the wife of a politician doesn't have much fun.

Nicole: No kidding. I'm not gonna be your wife for much longer. But what I do wanna know, EJ, is why? Hmm? Why are you running at all? What's the real reason?

EJ: I'm doing it for Sydney and Johnny.

Nicole: Mm-hmm.

EJ: I want them to have a name they can be proud of, not ashamed of.

Nicole: You do realize that could take centuries.

EJ: Well, it's a good thing I'm getting started now then, isn't it?

Nicole: A leopard doesn't change his spots. And you have a lot of them, sir.

EJ: All right, but you'll see, I'm not trying to change my spots. You and I, we had this conversation the night we were having champagne. You are who you are. I am who I am. And we can't change that but what I can change is the way in which people see me.

Jennifer: Look at me. How could I not wanna be with a man like you? You are so great, you're a great man, and you are solid.

Daniel: I'm solid?

Jennifer: Yes.

Daniel: What is that, is that a good thing?

Jennifer: It's great. It's you're reliable and you're solid, and that is exactly what I need. You're so unlike Jack. I mean, take today as an example. You know, he could have called and said, "I'm coming home." And he didn't do that.

Daniel: Well, he surprised you.

Jennifer: Surprised me? He fell into the dessert, Daniel. That's Jack, it's always drama or hi-jinks. There's nothing in between.

Daniel: Well, Jack's exciting.

Jennifer: No, it's not exciting. It's not. It's not what I want. I want... I want empathy and I want communication and commitment. I want you. I don't even know why we are talking about Jack being in Salem in the first place, 'cause he's probably not even in Salem anymore. He probably jumped the next plane. This was probably a little pit stop on to his next adventure, and he didn't even want me to find out he was here in the first place. Obviously it was an accident that I found out he was here.

Daniel: I know, yeah--I mean, so why are we talking about him?

Jennifer: I don't wanna talk about it--I just want my life back.

Daniel: Okay, okay.

Jennifer: That's what I want.

Daniel: I know.

Jennifer: And I just--I wanna know--I wanna know why. Why did he do this? Why does he wanna hurt Abigail and me all over again when we're just learning how to live without him?

Maggie: Victor?

Victor: There's something I wanna show you.

Maggie: Well, what is it?

Victor: Ahem.

Roman: What's going on?

[Shimmering tone]

[Audience oohs]

Victor: I love you. Some would say that you're not supposed to keep looking for love at my age. But when I'm with you, I feel like a teenager again. And I don't ever want to lose that feeling. Maggie... will you please do me the honor of becoming my wife?

Maggie: [Cries] It's beautiful.

Hope: You knew about this, didn't you?

Bo: Yeah, Victor did give me a head's up. You weren't too surprised yourself.

Hope: Well, because I wasn't.

Bo: Why?

Hope: Well, Victor--actually, it was so sweet.

Bo: What?

Hope: He came to Jennifer and me and asked our permission.

Bo: Oh, wow, good for him. I assume you said yes.

Hope: Well, you know I'm fond of Victor.

Bo: Mm-hmm.

Hop doesn't mean I'm not still worried.

Bo: You should not worry about Maggie. The most important thing to Victor right now is protecting her. Hell, it's the only thing to him.

Hope: I know. And when two people love each other...

Bo: They can survive pretty much anything..

Hope: Anything.

Nicole: Wow, I had no idea Victor was such a romantic at heart.

EJ: Indeed.

Nicole: Maggie has no idea what she's in for. Marriage...what a fraud.

EJ: Well, I suppose it's hard not to be jaded after everything that we've been through.

Nicole: Hmm. Just a bit. So, um, where's your date?. She disappeared again? Did she have her hand in that marriage proposal?

EJ: I have a funny feeling that, uh, Victor keeps his own counsel.

Nicole: Mm-hmm, then where is he?

EJ: Well, I... ah!

Stefano: Well, I certainly don't need a matchmaker to finally tell me that Victor's choice in a wife has finally improved. [Chuckling]

Nicole: And that's my cue.

EJ: Nicole! Do I have your vote?

Nicole: I'm not sure. That depends on where you stand. Issues and all. Good luck with everything, EJ.

EJ: Why do you have to--
