Kate: Go to hell. It seems like every two-bit cable news channel in the world has my private number.

Chad: This--this is all made-up, right? My father and EJ didn't really kidnap Rafe and replace him with a double they made. I mean...

Lexie: I'd like to know the same thing.

Kate: Well, um...

Lexie: Not from you, Kate. I want to hear it from Stefano.

Nicole: If you're looking for an ally, you must have done brain surgery on yourself down in that basement.

EJ: Look, I wouldn't have come near this place if I didn't know you were here. I need to talk to you.

Bo: Hope is interrogating the double, taking another shot at convincing him to roll on the DiMeras.

Roman: Well, if anybody can flip him, hope can. She's a great closer.

Abe: I just got off the phone with the D.A. He called to read me the riot act before he calls internal affairs.

Bo: About what?

Abe: Hope. He wants to know whose bright idea it was to make a convicted felon--his words, not mine--the lead investigator on the department's biggest case.

Bo: That conviction should have been appealed. You know it, Abe.

Abe: I-I-I don't want to hear it, Bo. Take her off the case. Now.

[Footsteps]

Javier: Don't you ever give up?

Hope: Nope.

Javier: What are you gonna do to me this time, huh? Break out the rubber hose?

Hope: Don't have to. Pretty soon you'll be dying to tell me all about your connection to EJ DiMera.

Maggie: So sonny's back in Salem.

Justin: Yeah, he got here yesterday.

Maggie: That is so great. How long is he staying?

Adrienne: Oh, he didn't say. I'm not sure he's decided yet.

Maggie: Oh. You must be so happy.

Adrienne: We really are. We really missed him.

Maggie: Ohh. I guess he needed a break from mountain climbing and all that.

Adrienne: Well, yeah. You know, seen one mountain, seen 'em all.

Justin: [Laughs]

Maggie: I hope it's not too dull for him here. I remember...[Laughs] When he was a little kid, he was always so industrious. He always had a project.

Justin: Remember his newspaper?

Adrienne: Oh, my god, I thought the neighbors were gonna kill him.

Both: Or us.

[Laughter]

Maggie: Oh, well, I'm sure Victor would love to find a place for him at titan.

Adrienne: Oh, maybe not.

Maggie: Why would you say that?

Justin: Honey. It's part of the reason why he came to town.

Adrienne: You're right.

Justin: He wants people to know.

Adrienne: Absolutely. You're right.

Maggie: Know what?

Victor: I must have misunderstood. I thought you just said you were gay.

Sonny: No, you heard right.

Victor: Since when?

Sonny: I mean, all my life.

Victor: Brady put you up to this, didn't he? Wait till I get my hands on him.

Sonny: No, no one put me up to this. Okay, I said I was gay because I am.

Bo: No, Abe. I'm not pulling hope off this investigation.

Abe: Do you have any idea what kind of trouble you're going to be in?

Roman: Well, I think Bo has a fair idea, yeah.

Abe: You could lose your job. The mood the D.A. Is in, we could all lose our jobs.

Bo: Once we put the DiMeras behind bars, the D.A. Will forget about his little temper tantrum.

Abe: I heard the Rafe double is so scared of them that he won't talk.

Roman: Well, I think hope can make him change his mind about that.

Abe: There's only so much I can do, Bo.

Bo: Yeah, I know. Once I.A. Is involved, our hands are tied.

Abe: I may have appointed you, but they can suspend you. Or even fire you.

Bo: That's a chance I'm willing to take.

Javier: See, I like a woman with confidence. It makes it more fun when she starts crying.

Hope: So you really hate women.

Javier: Just the ones that get in my way.

Hope: Like Fay did?

Javier: We're not gonna talk about that.

Hope: Fine. We don't have to. But you're going away for what you did to her--murder two at the very least.

Rafe: Well, hey, as long as I don't get the needle.

Hope: You don't think a prison bid is a death sentence? Well, I'm here to tell you the general population has its own justice system. And the DiMeras, they know exactly how to work it. You know, if they somehow get the idea that you gave them up, if they have the death penalty taken off the table, they're gonna find a way to get to you.

Javier: Hmm. [Laughs] Well, great. From where I'm sitting, it sounds like, either way, I'm screwed.

Hope: No. There is one other option.

Nicole: My sister doesn't care what you have to say to her.

EJ: You know, I'd like to hear that from her, thank you.

Taylor: You had your chance to talk to me. And you chose to lie instead.

Nicole: See, there you go.

EJ: Not yet.

Nicole: Dude. You are way too sold on your powers of persuasion.

EJ: I love you. I'm never going to stop loving you. I wish that I had met you first. And I know that there is a part of you...there is a part of you that still loves me.

Hope: Okay, here's the bottom line. The feds want the DiMeras a hell of a lot more than they want you. You give them EJ and Stefano, they'll give you witness protection.

Javier: What do they want?

Hope: Everything EJ and Stefano said to you, did to you before, during, and after they switched you with Rafe.

Javier: That's it?

Hope: They want to know how you got paid so they can follow the money.

[Door opens]

Hope: Just in the middle of an interrogation.

Roman: Not anymore. I'm taking over.

Kate: Your father's lying down, hopefully sleeping. I'd rather he not be disturbed.

Lexie: How's his blood sugar?

Kate: Well, it was fine this morning. Who knows now? He's very upset.

Lexie: Well, seems like the appropriate reaction for someone who's just been caught red-handed.

Chad: So he did do what they're saying.

Kate: [Laughs] I hope the two of you remember that, in this country, people are still innocent until they're proven guilty. Obviously, the police do not have a case against him, or they would have arrested him already. The only thing they've done is pick up a con man who was passing himself off as Rafe.

Lexie: And how long do you think before he tries to cut a deal and they throw him in front of the grand jury?

Kate: Well, if that does happen, then I expect every member of this family to stand behind Stefano. Do I make myself clear?

Lexie: Perfectly.

Kate: Good. Now I'm going to go check on Stefano.

Chad: Unbelievable.

Lexie: Well, Chad, this is it. You know, your baptism by fire into the family.

Chad: So you think our father and EJ did it? That they're the ones who switched that guy with Rafe?

Lexie: Let's just say, I've seen the behavior before. And, for your sake, I pray to god that this time they get caught.

Taylor: It doesn't matter what I felt for you or what you say you still feel for me because what you did speaks louder than anything you could ever say to me.

EJ: Look, I know how overwhelming this must be for you.

Nicole: Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Would you give it up, EJ?

Taylor: It's okay.

Nicole: My sister is not dumb. And she finally sees you for who you really are.

Taylor: Sweetie, you don't have to take care of me. It's okay.

Nicole: Yes. Yes, I do. Because I know EJ better than you. And I can see that he still thinks that he can get through to you. But one of us needs to take a 2x4 and smack him with it until he accepts reality. And I know you're not up for it, but I sure as hell am.

EJ: Nikki, shut up.

Nicole: I don't take orders from someone who's responsible for killing our mother.

EJ: If I had any idea that your mother was in any kind of danger, I would have done everything in my power to protect her.

Nicole: No, you wouldn't. All you care about is covering your tracks and preserving what little life you have left. But you need to understand that life as you know it is over.

EJ: Jeez, you think I don't know that?

Nicole: No, I don't.

EJ: If I have hurt either one of you through anything that I may have done, I'm very sorry.

Nicole: Anything you may have done? God. You had a hand in our mother's death. [Laughs] You know what, don't--don't. Don't worry about the hell you put us through, EJ. Because guess what? Now we get to look forward to what's in store for you. Because your hell is just beginning.

Sonny: As pink ink.

Victor: So. You're gay.

Sonny: As pink ink.

Victor: You sure it's not a phase like the high-top sneakers with a suit?

Sonny: No, it's not a phase.

Victor: I don't know how to react to this. Never had anybody in the family who was gay before.

Sonny: Oh, come on, uncle vic. I know you can't be that naive.

Victor: I assume your parents are aware of this.

Sonny: Yeah. Yeah, I told 'em a few years ago.

Victor: A few years ago? How'd they take it?

Sonny: You know, not bad. It was kind of a shock. But then I told them about pflag.

Victor: What's that?

Sonny: Parents and friends of lesbians and gays. They do support groups, and it really helped them understand.

Victor: If they're so supportive, how come they didn't tell me about it?

Sonny: Because they were afraid that you wouldn't be. Anyway, I'm really happy they didn't get into it with you. 'Cause it's better this way. You know, me telling you myself. Face to face.

Javier: Man, why'd you get rid of the broad?

Roman: Hope was only reinstated temporarily. So today is her last day.

Javier: Oh, okay. What, so that's it? She's out of here?

Roman: Right.

Javier: Well, man, I pretended to be married to your daughter for months. I know how you Bradys work--all for one and one for all. So quit trying to feed me your bull.

Roman: I'm not trying to feed you anything. I would just like to talk to you about your statement.

Javier: What statement?

Roman: The one we transcribed from the videotape you made.

Javier: Yeah, I was coerced. My lawyer said so.

Roman: Well, in that statement, you accepted guilt for impersonating an officer, conspiring against his wife, also the murder of Fay walker. And you also named EJ and Stefano DiMera as the people who hired you.

Javier: What the hell?

Roman: Would you like to read this over before you sign it?

Javier: I keep telling you, man. They drugged me up before I said all that stuff. I would have said I was my aunt betty. Oh, and I didn't say anything about the DiMeras. Bo and hope already admitted that.

Roman: Hmm. Well, okay, I guess they didn't tell you.

Javier: Tell me what?

Roman: Well, you see, we got one of those very brilliant computer geeks who works for us over at the forensics lab. The guy loves a challenge, so Bo gave him that digital recording he made of you. And, by golly, wouldn't you know it, he restored that whole thing. And I cannot wait to see the faces of EJ and Stefano when they hear that in court.

Javier: No. In that case, kiss my ass.

Roman: No, thank you.

Javier: Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hold on. Hold on. Now hope said that there wasn't gonna be any trial. She was talking to me about witness protection.

Roman: No kidding?

Javier: Yeah.

Roman: Well, you know, like we talked about, hope was temporary. So now you're dealing with me.

Bo: Hey.

Hope: Hey, what's going on?

Abe: The D.A. Is upset about your involvement.

Bo: He's contacted internal affairs.

Hope: [Sighs] Okay, I get it. Thing is, I was really starting to make progress.

Bo: Yeah. Roman's in there now, playing bad cop. How'd our boy react to the witness protection thing?

Hope: Oh, he was trying to be cavalier, but he's dying to go for it.

Abe: So the feds are taking over the case?

Bo: No, well, that's what we want him to think. Roman's in there now telling him that hope had no authority to make any promises.

Abe: So you're hoping that the double says, "too bad, I'm gonna talk to her"?

Bo: Right. We sell that to the D.A., And hope goes back in and brokers a deal.

Abe: You think you're up to this?

Hope: Are you kidding me? I better be. Without his statement, we don't have a case. EJ and Stefano could walk.

EJ: Look, this hell that you've imagined for me, I'm already there. Okay? Samantha--Samantha and Rafe have taken Johnny and Sydney away from me, and they're trying to get a restraining order, the police are working day and night to put father and me in prison, and the woman who I love detests me.

Taylor: Yes. Yes, I do.

EJ: I just--I wish that I could have met you before any--

Nicole: Oh, my god. Are you kidding? Get out. Get out, EJ. Out!

Taylor: EJ, just wait.

Maggie: So sonny is gay.

Adrienne: Mm-hmm.

Maggie: Well, what's that like for you?

Adrienne: Hmm.

Justin: You know, when he first came to us with such a serious look on his face and said he had something to tell us...

Adrienne: We were like, oh, my god, he's on drugs or he's gotten a girl pregnant.

Justin: And then he said he was gay.

Adrienne: We were like, well, that's it? That's all?

[Laughter]

Justin: But then it hits you that your son is different from you in a way that you just didn't plan on.

Adrienne: And I started watching what I said around him all the time.

Justin: And you wonder if maybe there was something that we did as parents.

Adrienne: It got really uncomfortable.

Justin: So we went to a support group.

Adrienne: His idea.

Justin: And it helped.

Adrienne: Mm-hmm.

Maggie: Well, families go through such wild rides.

Adrienne: Oh, sonny has taken us on a journey we never thought we would take. That's for sure.

Justin: Definitely keeps you from feeling old.

Adrienne: Oh, yeah.

Maggie: Did he tell you how long he had known he was gay?

Justin: Well, that's just it. He says he's always known.

Adrienne: He reminded me of these curtains that I got for his room when he was just a little kid. And they had this western theme, you know, cactus and buffalo roaming like that. But part of the pattern was these two cowboys walking together, and sonny said that, when he was about five or six years old, he would look up at those two cowboys and say, "they're like me."

Maggie: Oh, my.

Justin: Rejecting your son for being gay would be like rejecting him for having brown eyes. Right?

Maggie: Yeah. He might have some tough times ahead of him. I mean, there are people out there who seem to have a real misconception about why people are gay.

Adrienne: Mm-hmm.

Justin: We're aware of that.

Maggie: Does Victor know?

Adrienne: If he doesn't, he's going to.

Justin: Sonny's telling him right now.

Maggie: Ooh.

Victor: So you prefer to tell me yourself, huh?

Sonny: Yeah. You know, a man fights his own battles. Isn't that what you're always saying?

Victor: You expected a battle?

Sonny: Pretty much.

Victor: Well, you were wrong. I don't want to do battle with you. I feel sorry for you.

Bo: Are you clear on what to say?

Hope: I just hope I get the opportunity to say it.

Bo: Yeah, me too. Oh, hey.

Roman: Hey. He's all yours.

Bo: How'd it go?

Roman: Well, I fed him the line about the digital recording being restored.

Bo: And he bought it?

Roman: He fell for it, hook, line, and sinker. It worked perfectly.

Bo: All right. He is very much about witness protection now and says the only one he'll talk to is hope.

Bo: It's all up to you. Go close this deal.

Hope: Thanks, roman.

Nicole: Oh, my god. Taylor, do not let him suck you in. Take it from me. You will regret it.

Taylor: Thank you. Thank you for trying to protect me. God knows I do not deserve it. But... I need to speak to EJ alone.

Nicole: Are you kidding? No.

Taylor: Hey. I'll be okay.

Nicole: Fine. Fine. I will go get dressed and leave. But don't you forget what he did to our mother.

Taylor: [Silently] I won't. It's okay.

EJ: Thank you.

Taylor: I want to know why you lied to me.

EJ: Okay, I never lied about my feelings for you.

Taylor: Please. Please. Just for once, can you be man enough to look me in the eye and give me a straight answer?

Sonny: So you feel sorry for me because I'm gay?

Victor: Look, I admit, it would be better if you preferred women. It would just make your life less difficult.

Sonny: You're straight. Has your life been less difficult?

Victor: I can get married.

Sonny: Oh, and you do. Over and over and over.

Victor: Listen, you know what I mean. I mean, I hate to think of you in a hospital hurt or injured somehow and your partner doesn't have the legal right to be by your side. Or even to get information on your condition.

Sonny: Yeah, but that's all changing.

Victor: Slowly.

Sonny: Really? All right, think about it. When you were my age, okay, gays and lesbians were all in the closet. All right, or they were calling themselves friends of Dorothy or something. All right, my school had a gay and lesbian club in the fifth grade.

Victor: Still, I hate to think of a Kiriakis being subjected to bigotry and intolerance.

Sonny: Yeah, but you know I can handle it.

Victor: Well, if you decide to stay in Salem, we'll find out about that.

Sonny: What does that mean?

Victor: It means this is not new York or los Angeles. There may be people in this town who can't stomach the fact that you're gay.

Adrienne: You better not be one of those people.

[Door opens]

Kinsey: Well, look who's here.

Nicole: You talking to me? Oh, you.

Kinsey: None other.

Nicole: Kelsey.

Kinsey: Kinsey.

Nicole: Kinsey. Right. Well, it's been a while.

Kinsey: Yeah, I know. But I read about you all the time and... look, I meant to, like, call you or text you after what happened in the park last summer.

Nicole: [Laughs] Right, you mean when you sold me down the river to Sami Brady? Telling her that I was obsessed with her little girl? Bribing you into letting me see her? That time?

Kinsey: Yeah, that's--that's what I mean. And, look, I know this isn't a good excuse, but I was really scared.

Nicole: Oh, poor Kinsey.

Kinsey: Is it way too late to say I'm sorry?

Nicole: No. It's just a little too late for me to give a damn.

Kinsey: What if I tell you that I've been feeling guilty and awful about what I said ever since I talked about you that way to will's mom? It's honestly been, like, tormenting me. Would that make a difference?

Nicole: All right. Apology accepted.

Kinsey: Thanks so much.

Nicole: Okay, bye.

Kinsey: That's a latte, right?

Nicole: Okay, Kinsey, look, I'm really not in the mood for company, okay?

Kinsey: But you shouldn't be alone.

Nicole: Guess that is my cue to move then.

Kinsey: Wait, no, no, no. Don't go. Look, your life is a total disaster and you need a friend. Please let it be me.

Taylor: The reason you didn't tell me what was going on is 'cause you knew if I found out that I would remove myself from your life.

EJ: Look, I would just like a chance to explain to you why I did what I did.

Taylor: What am I supposed to do with that explanation? Forgive you?

EJ: A man can hope.

Taylor: Nothing that you can say... will ever make me forgive you.

Victor: Relax, Adrienne. I was just telling sonny that everybody else is not going to be as understanding as his family.

Adrienne: You think that's being understanding?

Sonny: Mom, mom, just--just chill, all right? Uncle Vic calls 'em like he sees 'em.

Justin: Then he obviously needs glasses.

Victor: I resent that.

Justin: I don't care. This is my son.

Sonny: Look, I don't need uncle Victor to tell me there's gay-bashing in the world. Okay? But I'm lucky enough to have two good people as parents and an old shark as a great uncle. So I know how to navigate through the rough waters.

Adrienne: I just don't see why you had to hear about the rough waters today.

Sonny: Uncle Vic's not gonna change. Neither am I. And that's okay.

Victor: Well, I'm surprised to see you here, Maggie.

Maggie: I've known sonny since he was little. And I wanted to come and see him and give him a hug. Oh. Hi, honey. Oh.

Victor: Since my idiot doctor insists I take walks every day now, care to join me?

Maggie: Now? Sure.

Victor: We won't be long. Ciao.

Sonny: I think uncle Vic's scared of you, mom.

Adrienne: Good.

Justin: Looked like you held your own with him.

Sonny: Yeah, he's okay.

[Laughter]

Adrienne: He better keep being okay or he's gonna have to deal with me. Mm-hmm.

Bo: Oh, hey, McCarthy. Thanks for coming in early. Want to go over something with you. You were Rafe's partner, and you also worked with the double, right?

McCarthy: We still don't have his name.

Bo: No, we don't have squat. I mean, he would rather go to prison than give up the DiMeras. If we knew who he was, anything at all about him, we could use it to pressure him. Now do you remember anything he might have said or done that could give you any idea of who he is?

McCarthy: Are you kidding? I have been racking my brain, trying to think of something. The thing is, for as much as that jerk ran his mouth, he never talked about anything personal.

Bo: Okay. He used Rafe's computer, right?

McCarthy: Yeah.

Bo: Yeah, well, we went over it and couldn't find anything, but I'm thinking maybe if you looked at it for us.

McCarthy: It's still here?

Bo: Yeah, yeah.

McCarthy: Maybe there is something.

Javier: Your brother-in-law says you got thrown off the case.

Hope: It's true. I did.

Javier: How come?

Hope: The mayor. The mayor seems to have a little problem with the fact that... I have a prison record.

Javier: Oh, yeah. That's...[Laughs] I forgot about that one. Oh, man. I got to tell you, though, I had a hard time keeping a straight face when I was with Sami when I heard about that. I mean, seriously, the police commissioner's wife going out and conking guys over the head in the middle of the night and then trying to solve the case the next day. [Laughing] My god. That's frickin' unbelievable.

Hope: You should try living it.

Javier: Wait, hold on a second. True or false: You tried to set Bo on fire in your own living room?

Hope: You better be careful about what you say to me.

Javier: Oh. Why? Did you bring your matches?

Hope: Roman loves his daughter. And he hates your guts. And he wants to see you die for what you've done. He doesn't care if it's by lethal injection or served up to the DiMeras. But you see, me on the other hand, I know what it means to get a second chance. You help me get the DiMeras and I might get back a job I love. In return, I'll help you. I'll help you get a second chance.

Nicole: Mm. Mm.

Kinsey: Thanks.

Nicole: Sure.

Kinsey: So, okay, your sister, the accountant, had a thing with your husband, so you left them alone in a hotel room together?

Nicole: Brilliant, huh?

Kinsey: Well, I know you had a good reason for doing it. I just--I can't figure out what that reason is.

Nicole: Try this. I want EJ to get what's coming to him, and I want it to hurt. And he thinks my sister is the love of his life.

Kinsey: So then being alone together is hurting him how?

Taylor: My sister has a moral streak a mile wide.

Kinsey: Yeah? Where was that streak when she was sneaking around behind your back?

Nicole: I don't know. Maybe she was trying to save him. But right now I hope she sees him for what he really is.

Kinsey: Really hot and rich?

Nicole: A sadistic jerk.

Kinsey: So you're, like, looking out for her? After she broke up your marriage? She totally doesn't deserve you.

Nicole: I know.

EJ: Look... even if it doesn't change anything, I just--I'd like to explain my reasoning.

Taylor: What is reasonable about what you have done?

EJ: I was desperate. I knew Samantha and Rafe were gonna go to any length to take my children away from me.

Taylor: You had total custody of them.

EJ: But th--th--they missed their mother, all right? I did not want to eliminate her from their life. This was not about her. This was about Rafe.

Taylor: Don't you know how much Sydney and Johnny love you? Rafe never could have replaced you in their lives. Not before this. Thanks for... telling me the truth, I guess.

EJ: Here's another truth. I love you. Taylor, I will always love... I will always love you.

Kate: Where's Lexie?

Chad: She left.

Kate: Oh. Well, good, because he didn't need her all up in his face. So what did she say to you while I was gone? Mm. Never mind, I don't think I even want to know. I just hope she didn't talk you out of standing by your father, because if you abandoned him now, it would kill him.

Chad: Stefano doesn't care what I think.

Kate: You have no idea.

Chad: So if he did this, would you be okay with it?

Kate: He's my husband. I love him no matter what. But it doesn't matter--it doesn't matter how I feel. This is up to you. But let me remind you that you were raised by a law-abiding man who didn't give a damn about you. And now a man like Stefano is your father. You need to choose.

[Phone rings]

Chad: I'll get it this time. Hello? Yeah. No comment.

Kate: Good man.

McCarthy: Well, you know how the double was always trying to get out of doing work?

Bo: Yeah, I do.

McCarthy: Well, this one day, I saw him on the government web site looking at mug shots. And he must have spent all afternoon going over it. I asked him what case he was working on, and he didn't answer. He just kept staring at this one mug shot. Who's that? And I think maybe I know why.

Javier: Now in the first place, you aren't even official here. So how are you gonna get me witness protection?

Hope: My husband can do it.

Javier: Uh-huh.

Hope: If you cooperate.

Javier: Is that right? Yeah. And then Sami's daddy goes to the DiMeras, he tells 'em what I said and where I'm at. One day I'm out in the suburbs, I'm putting in petunias, and the next day I'm the fertilizer.

Hope: He wouldn't do that.

Rafe: Oh, yeah? Why not?

Hope: Because he hates them more than he hates you.

Javier: Okay. So I got your word? Right. Thanks, lady. I'll take my own chances.

Nicole: Look, I better get back to the hotel and pick up the pieces.

Kinsey: Your sister's lucky.

Nicole: My sister put herself through college and got herself a responsible job. I'm the one who depended on the kindness of strangers until now.

Kinsey: What, are you kidding? No, you were, like, a celeb on TV and all that.

Nicole: Thank you. But that was a whole other life. Look, right now I'm just glad I'm the one who's been there and done that, looking out for her.

Kinsey: I wish I had someone like you in my corner.

Nicole: It's been hard.

Kinsey: I don't have any money for college anymore.

Nicole: That sucks.

Kinsey: And I'm not what you'd call a self-starter, so...

Nicole: Look, I know all about being poor. So if there's anything I can do to help, just let me know.

Taylor: I think you should go.

EJ: [Mumbles] Good to see you again.

Taylor: I hope not.

EJ: Taylor. I will do everything in my power to take your pain away. You just have to say the word.

Taylor: There is something I want. I want my mother back.

Bo: We need your help.

Abigail: Does that mean that Chad becomes the head of their family?
