[Rustling]

Rafe 2: What the hell was that?

EJ: Yeah. Sure.

Taylor: Look, I'm okay, Nicole.

Nicole: Really, Taylor?

Taylor: Yeah.

Nicole: Then why did you grimace when you got out of the car?

Taylor: It's just my ankle, that's all.

Nicole: Oh, it's been a hell of a week. Oh, sorry.

Taylor: That's okay.

Nicole: We've had, uh, a death, a funeral...

EJ: Mm-hmm, okay.

Nicole: And a car accident. So, um, how about we drink oceans of liquor, huh?

Taylor: Um, before you start, uh, sweetie, there's... there's something I wanna talk to you about.

Nicole: Okay, well, I-- I can talk and drink, can't I, EJ?

Taylor: I can't stay here. Nicole, I have to go.

Nicole: No. Taylor, you can't.

Taylor: Look, I'm gonna pack my things. It's not gonna take long.

Nicole: [Sighs] Come on! We went over this guilt thing. What happened to mom is not your fault. Will you please tell her, EJ?

EJ: It's not your fault.

Taylor: Look, that's not what this is about.

Nicole: Well, then, please tell me what it is about.

Victor: So, are we still family?

Brady: Yeah, we are still family.

Victor: Oh, you seem thrilled about the whole thing.

Brady: You're not exactly Grandpa Walton, you know.

Victor: You think I couldn't come up with some unfavorable characterizations about you?

Brady: You wanna take some pot shots right now? I'm the guy that's still here.

Victor: For how long?

Brady: A while. Until you really, really tick me off.

Victor: Ah, I get it. I'm on probation.

Brady: Don't forget it.

Melanie: God knows I haven't always been a great person, but you are hurting people I love, and I'm sick of it, and I'm sick of you.

Maggie: Melanie, stop it right now.

Melanie: What did you say?

Maggie: I said stop.

Hope: Yes. Thank you. Thank you so much. I will. Thank you. Bo, I've been trying to reach you.

Bo: Yeah, my phone was dead.

Hope: We've got a lead.

Bo: What? What's going on?

Hope: You know Mrs. Hobbs down the block?

Lexie: Well, she told Abe that her husband hired a truck to haul away some debris after they did some landscaping.

Bo: Uh-huh.

Hope: That truck took off at the same time the kids left. What if they didn't walk? What if they got a ride in the back of the truck?

Bo: That means they could be a long way away from home. We gotta find that truck.

Hope: I already did. It went to Centerville.

[Phone rings]

Bo: Hey, I'll get it. Brady. Centerville P.D.

Both: Oh, God.

Rafe 2: Son of a bitch. That's all I need.

Taylor: Look, I don't understand why you're upset. Look, come on, with--with mom gone, there is no reason for me to be here anymore.

Nicole: I want you here.

Taylor: Look, you-- you and EJ are newlyweds. It doesn't make any sense.

Nicole: Taylor, you have nowhere to go, and we have all the rooms in the world. And we should be together right now. EJ, please, can--can you talk to her? Please?

[Phone rings]

EJ: One second. Sorry. I have to take this.

[Phone ringing]

Taylor: Nicole, please just don't drag this out, okay? Look, my mind is made up.

Nicole: Fine. But why tonight? I mean, you're hurt. Let me just take care of you at least till you get back on your feet.

[Approaching footsteps]

Nicole: EJ, what's wrong? What is it?

EJ: Theo's missing.

Taylor: Oh, my God. No.

Bo: Centerville cops have a runaway teen in custody. She had a necklace in her possession. One of the cops recognized it from Ciara's picture.

Lexie: Oh, thank God.

Bo: Yeah, the thing is, she's not talking. She won't tell 'em where she got it.

Hope: She'll tell me. Let's go.

Guard #2: Just relax.

Guard #1: I'm the closest thing you have to a friend right now. There are about 15 trained marksmen moving slowly and inexorably towards you. They'll shoot if I tell 'em to, and they're real proud of their kill rate. It's over, pal. It was a valiant effort, but it failed. And one other thing-- whatever you do, don't--

[Both shouting at once]

Maggie: Chloe, could you give us a few minutes? Melanie and I need to have a talk.

Chloe: Right. I am sorry for everything. That'll never be enough for you, will it?

[Departing footsteps]

Melanie: Do you know what it feels like to have you take her side over mine?

Maggie: I'm not taking sides.

Melanie: Really? She's living with you, right? You gonna go send her off to get tea and cookies while you yell at me for trying to defend myself?

Maggie: Yeah, well, you're not trying to defend yourself. You're attacking her.

Melanie: Really?

Maggie: Yeah.

Melanie: After what she did to my dad and me, our lives? I don't think it was un-provoked. How does she do it, Maggie? How many lives has she hurt? How many husbands has she cheated on? She's neglecting her baby. She's drinking instead of taking care of him, and yet there are all these people that are ready to defend her.

Maggie: That's not true.

Melanie: Yes, it is. You're gonna let her live in my room. My dad won't let me say a single word about her, and now you're worried that I'm gonna hurt her feelings.

Maggie: Well, right now I am not worried about her. I'm worried about you.

Melanie: Well, don't be. I can take care of myself.

Maggie: Yeah, well, that's not what I'm worried about. I'm worried that just now I couldn't see the difference between you and Victor Kiriakis.

Victor: Well, Philip's gone. Maggie's mad at me. I guess I have no choice but to grovel.

Brady: You couldn't if you tried. So, why don't we work on treating me like an adult? Hmm?

Victor: Oh, boy, you drive a hard bargain.

Brady: I learned from a pro.

Victor: [Sighs] You know, I really don't want you to leave...so if I start to really, really tick you off, how about giving me a little warning?

Brady: You'd ignore it.

[Utensil clanks]

Victor: What, do you and Maggie compare notes?

Brady: We just deal with the same guy.

Victor: [Sighs] Well, it sure would be nice if I had somebody on my side.

Brady: You do. Her name is Melanie.

Victor: You know, I knew I liked that girl.

Brady: I like her too.

Vivian: For the life of me, I don't understand the point of DNA results if they're inconclusive.

Gus: They're not inconclusive. We have the DNA sample of the person the DiMeras were holding in their basement, and we know it's not anyone currently living in the house.

Vivian: But we still don't know who the prisoner was!

Gus: The authorities could run that information through their database and maybe get a match.

Vivian: Wonderful. Is there an app for that?

Gus: We don't have access. And if this person doesn't have a criminal record, then it still might be a waste of time.

Vivian: And we went through the whole thing for absolutely no reason.

Gus: Maybe. Maybe not.

Vivian: Oh, God. [Sighs]

Taylor: Well, all of a sudden our domestic arrangements don't seem so important anymore.

Nicole: I guess not. Uh, EJ, is there anything that we can do to help?

EJ: Wait. I mean, the police have issued an amber alert. They have some search parties out there. Can't help but think that anything we would do would just be redundant.

Taylor: Okay, um, I'm gonna go be with Lexie. Okay?

Nicole: Yeah.

Taylor: Ow.

EJ: Taylor. Tell Lexie that I love her.

Nicole: Oh, honey, I'm-- I'm sure she already knows that.

Taylor: Okay, I'll--I'll call you if I hear anything.

Nicole: Okay. EJ, don't--don't you wanna go too?

EJ: No. No. I'm sure Abe and Bo are there. My presence wouldn't exactly be very soothing.

Nicole: [Sighs] This is horrible news. It makes me just wanna go upstairs and hug Johnny and Sydney. God, I wish they were here.

EJ: Yeah. [Sighs]

Nicole: Are you worried about them?

EJ: [Sighs] No, I'm not. They're with Samantha. I'm sure they'll be fine.

Nicole: Well, they don't seem like a happy family right now, EJ. You know, that's something I wanted to talk to you about. I--I just--I wanted to wait until we were alone.

EJ: What?

Nicole: I called the apartment to talk to Rafe to see if he knew when Sami was gonna bring the kids back.

EJ: Yeah. What did he say?

Nicole: Nothing. I talked to his brother, and he said he had just taken off. He left town.

EJ: [Sighs] Really?

Nicole: And that doesn't surprise you at all?

EJ: Well, what do you think, Nicole? He's living with Samantha. Why would I be surprised?

Nicole: What about the kids?

EJ: What about the kids?

Nicole: They love him. They will be heartbroken.

EJ: They have you and me. Nicole, they will be fine.

Nicole: [Scoffs] That's a little cavalier, don't you think?

EJ: Look, I'm sorry. This is something that was going to happen sooner or later. All right? I think it's better that it happens when the children are young. Frankly, I feel pretty good about this. Look, you remember that hoo-ha with Allie. Personally, I don't really think that Rafe likes children.

Theo: He's Rafe.

Ciara: Shh.

Rafe 2: Hey! What are you guys doing way out here, huh?

Theo: Running away.

Ciara: Please don't tell anyone you saw us.

Rafe 2: You don't want me to take you back home?

Ciara: No! My mommy and daddy fight about me, and I want them to be happy.

Rafe 2: Ah. You think running away is gonna make 'em happy?

Ciara: Please don't make me go back.

Rafe 2: [Chuckles] Whatever. If that's what you guys want, it's cool by me.

Hope: Is that her?

Officer: She wouldn't even give us a first name. We got it from missing persons and accessed her rap sheet.

Hope: Prostitution? My God, she's just a baby.

Bo: Do you have the necklace?

Hope: Thank you.

Officer: Good luck.

Bo: Is that it?

Hope: Yeah, that's Ciara's necklace. Leah, hi. Uh, I'm Hope Brady. Uh, this is my husband Commissioner Brady. We're Ciara's parents, and this here is, uh, this is her necklace. Tell me where you saw her.

Rafe 2: So, you can trust me with your secret, but can I trust you with my secret? 'Cause if your parents do find you...

Ciara: They won't.

Rafe 2: But if they do, you can't tell anyone that I helped you or that you even saw me. Promise?

Ciara: Cross my heart and hope to die.

Guard #1: That river down there is rocky and with a strong current. Our friend did not survive that fall.

EJ: What?

Nicole: [Sighs] You know, as--as much as I know you, and as much as I know your history, I am still discovering how much you hate Rafe.

EJ: I simply said I don't really think that he likes children.

Nicole: But I have seen him with Sydney and Johnny, and they are not easy to fool, and they adore him.

EJ: Well, now he's gone, so that'll pass.

Nicole: So, him leaving town, that's--that's a good thing, huh?

EJ: Look, I'm sorry. My nephew is missing. My sister has no idea where he is. I don't quite understand why we're sitting here gossiping about Samantha's soon-to-be ex-husband.

Stefano: Oh, good! You're back. There's something I have to tell you.

EJ: About Theo. No, I already know, Father.

Stefano: I need to talk to my son alone.

Nicole: Well, it's great to be home. And, uh, thank you for asking about my mother's funeral. Oh, wait. You didn't.

[Doors slam shut]

EJ: I do not want you talking to her like that.

Stefano: I don't give a damn what you want. You couldn't have been gone at the worst time.

EJ: I apologize. My mother-in-law died. Maybe next time I'll check with Theo to make sure he's not planning on running away.

Stefano: It's not him. It was that Brady child who is unbalanced, all right? You know, I swear that the Brady women are on this earth to torment DiMera men.

EJ: Look, the last few days haven't exactly been a walk in the park, so I would appreciate it if you could just save your rant about the Brady�s until tomorrow or the next day.

Stefano: All right, look, that's not what I came to talk to you about, okay? I have news. The faux Mr. Hernandez finally followed orders, and he has left Salem.

EJ: I know.

Stefano: You talked to him?

EJ: No, Nicole told me.

Stefano: Nicole?

EJ: She called and spoke to his brother.

Stefano: Ah, yes, she's still sniffing around about Mr. Hernandez.

EJ: Father, she is convinced that something's going on involving me. That's why I don't appreciate you shouting at her or talking to her that way. She's on high alert as it is. Okay? We need to calm her down. She can't see this coming.

Stefano: See what coming?

EJ: The divorce.

Melanie: I tried. Maggie, I tried to forgive her. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, but when she starts neglecting Parker, that's the deal breaker. [Scoffs] This has--I'm not like you. I'm not a good person, and I'm sick of pretending to be!

Maggie: But you are! And you don't know it. You have parents who love you and a job that you love, and as bad as your life is right now, you have a future, and Chloe doesn't. Until she can see herself as a decent person again, a person with a loving heart and the potential to grow and change, she is sunk.

Melanie: Well, she deserves to be.

Maggie: No, Melanie. Chloe does not. She never intentionally hurt anyone. You know. You know that as well as I do, and yet you continue to condemn her like some lowly criminal. But she's not. She's a woman who needs acceptance and guidance, and that's what I plan to offer her.

Melanie: [Sniffles] And to hell with me, right?

Maggie: What?

Melanie: Like I don't even exist to you anymore.

Maggie: Oh, Melanie!

Melanie: Come on, Maggie. What about what I need? I'm so well off, I don't need your help and guidance anymore?

Maggie: You're getting it from so many people-- from your dad and from Brady--

Melanie: It doesn't matter. Maggie, those aren't the people I need it from. I need it from you. You're the most accepting and compassionate person I've ever met, and now I'm never gonna get to see you because you're gonna be with Chloe.

Maggie: You know that you can come and see me. I mean, do you really think that Chloe is gonna keep us from having our time together?

Melanie: No, but...

Maggie: But what?

Melanie: She's gonna be there, and that's gonna freak me out.

Maggie: Fine. As long as Chloe is staying with me, we'll see each other somewhere else. We'll go to your dad's, a restaurant, my restaurant. I will always... always be there for you, Melanie. You have to understand that.

Melanie: I don't. I don't understand anything.

[Departing footsteps]

Nicole: I am so glad you called. I did not wanna stay in that mausoleum. EJ and Stefano are in a foul mood, and they're taking it out on me.

Chloe: You just got back from your mother's funeral. How could they?

Nicole: I don't know. Something's going on. Something is always going on there.

Chloe: Hey, I'm really sorry that I wasn't there for the funeral.

Nicole: Chloe, it was more important for you to be with Parker.

Chloe: I wasn't. I won't ever be again.

Nicole: What?

Chloe: Philip's left for good, and he took Parker with him.

Nicole: Oh, my God.

Rafe 2: Hey. What about you, Theo? Hmm? You promise not to tell anyone you saw me?

Theo: Can't lie, can't lie, can't lie.

Leah: I want a lawyer.

Bo: You don't need one at this point. We have no jurisdiction here. Anything you say to us can't be used against you.

Hope: We can help you. Let us help you. We can. Please...just tell us where you last saw Ciara.

Leah: Wait a second. I know you. You're that whack job that went around clocking dudes. She tried to set you on fire, and you're still with her? Jeez. No wonder your kid ran away.

Lexie: Well, Abe talked to the Centerville Police Department. Bo and Hope are with the girl now.

Taylor: Okay. So, Theo's gonna be back soon.

Lexie: [Sighs] From your lips to God's ears. What's going on with your ankle?

Taylor: Oh, well, you know, um, you're never gonna believe this--EJ and I were in an accident on the way to the cemetery.

Lexie: Oh, my God! Are you guys okay?

Taylor: Oh, yeah, yeah. No, no, it isn't serious. It's nothing to worry about. Really. Um, you know what, do you want me to get you some tea or something?

Lexie: Wait, wait, wait, Taylor, Taylor, Taylor. You and EJ were in an accident. And where was Nicole?

Taylor: Um, it's just-- it's a long, boring story.

Lexie: And you wanna tell me about it?

Taylor: Theo is missing, all right? It's not important.

Lexie: Hmm. You're acting kind of jittery about something that's not important.

Taylor: [Sighs] We were just, um... we got pinned, and it-- it got pretty intense.

Lexie: Intense.

Taylor: Lexie, okay, nothing happened. Okay, but I don't--I don't-- I don't know that I can say that for the next time, so I told EJ and Nicole I have to leave Salem as soon as I can.

Stefano: You're gonna divorce Nicole? Don't you think it'll be noticed that you have been married less than three months?

EJ: [Chuckles] At least I didn't get a tattoo, huh?

Stefano: Look, Elvis, this is not funny. You told me you married her so it would be easier for the children when they lose Rafael, okay? I mean, that they would have more stability.

EJ: Well, that didn't work out, did it? Look, she's not a wife to me. She's barely a mother to them. She's morphed into some blond Miss Marple.

Stefano: [Groans] This is not about what she will find out. This is about that bookkeeper who won't do you while you are married to her sister!

EJ: You watch it. You're on thin ice, old man.

Stefano: And you are out of your mind.

Melanie: I didn't think there was anything in the world that could make me feel worse. Now Maggie thinks I'm a bad person.

Brady: No, she doesn't.

Melanie: She said I'm like Victor.

Brady: Wow.

Melanie: [Chuckles] Yeah. Now Maggie's chosen Chloe over me.

Brady: Stop it. She has not chosen her over you. She just thinks Chloe needs her a little more now than you do. Maybe she's right.

Victor: Melanie, I'm really sorry I screwed things up between you and Maggie. It's me she's mad at, you know.

Maggie: I know. She wants me to be nice to Chloe. Can't do that.

Victor: No, of course you can't. I mean, Maggie is dead wrong about that girl. She's just too stubborn to admit it.

Nicole: I'm so sorry about Parker. That blows, but Chloe, you have to fight back.

Chloe: I can't. Philip has full custody.

Nicole: Oh, come on. If I could get Sydney back, you could get Parker back.

Chloe: Maybe that's not what's best for Parker.

Taylor: Look, you know, it hasn't been the most fun months for me. And I just wanted to say thank you to you and Abe for letting me be a part of your family.

Lexie: Oh, my goodness. Are you kidding? Kidding! You know, Theo thinks you hung the moon!

Taylor: Yeah, well, uh, if he only knew.

Lexie: Can I say one more thing, um, about EJ?

Taylor: Can I stop you?

Lexie: No, I don't think so. [Sighs] You can run away, but that doesn't mean he won't follow you.

Taylor: [Sighs]

Stefano: Is there any way that I could possibly get you to think with your brain?

EJ: I realize you're very worried about Theo, but I've had a very bad week. I'm not really in the mood for any of your condescending crap.

Stefano: Look, I don't give a damn that you divorce Nicole, right? You were an idiot to marry her in the first place!

EJ: What do you really think again?

Stefano: You know, I'll tell you what scares me, is that you are willing to turn your life and your children's life upside down because you have the hots for Nicole's little sister.

EJ: Watch it.

Stefano: I'll tell you, though, what really scares me. Okay? That she's playing her part brilliantly.

EJ: What?

Stefano: [Sighs] You know, Elvis, you are so used to women just lying down for you that--that she has become your dream woman because she will not put out for you.

EJ: Don't you dare talk about Taylor that way to me.

Stefano: Oh, Elvis. You really think that you love her, huh? Oh, ay, ay, ay, ay. [Claps three times] God help all of us. [Sighs]

Bo: Tough, huh?

[Door slams]

Leah: I get by.

Bo: Mm-hmm. Smart too. How about I give you a choice. You help us find our daughter, and my wife and I will get you off the streets, keep you safe, give you a shot at the life you deserve. We can, and we'll do that for you.

Leah: Yeah, well, I'm not so sure she's such a good mother. I might be doing the kid a favor keeping my mouth shut.

Bo: Okay, well, here's your other choice. [Chuckles] It says here you know Conrad Mims. You probably know him by his professional name-- masa honey. How do you think he'd react if I told him that you were working his territory and keeping the profits for yourself?

Leah: Well, I didn't. I swear I didn't.

Bo: Who do you think he'll believe? My wife and I can help you, and I really don't like having to threaten you. But I am a father who will do anything to get my daughter back. That--that's who's standing in front of you--a man who will do anything--anything-- to get his daughter back.

Leah: What do you wanna know?

Ciara: This isn't the same as lying.

Rafe 2: Look, we don't have a lot of time here, so we have to do this my way or, uh...

Ciara: Or what?

Rafe 2: You don't wanna know.

Melanie: Look, I know Chloe is sad, I know she's freaked out about Parker, but every time I look at her, I remember what she did, and I... I just wanna punch her in the face.

Brady: [Chuckles] You wouldn't be human if you didn't feel that. By the way, I don't think Maggie wants you to forgive Chloe, just to back off a little bit.

Melanie: You on Chloe's side too?

Brady: Don't you know that I am, have been, always will be on your side?

Maggie: Hmm.

Victor: Maggie. I've been looking for you.

Maggie: [Clears throat] Well, haven't we said everything that we have to say to each other?

Victor: Well, there was one thing I forgot-- to thank you.

Gus: Still no match on the DNA sample. I'm sorry.

Vivian: You haven't exactly blinded me with science. Well, if I'm gonna get Stefano to turn on Kate, I'm gonna have to go to my old strategies.

Gus: And what would that be?

Vivian: Using my feminine wiles, of course.

Gus: We're screwed.

Nicole: I wish I could tell you you can move in with me so you can drink without guilt, but, uh, things are a little complicated.

Chloe: Yeah?

Nicole: Well, things are always complicated with EJ, but this time...

Chloe: What?

Nicole: [Sighs] I think EJ had something to do with Rafe's accident.

Chloe: Oh. That would be wildly out of character for him.

Nicole: And ever since the accident, things have gone south with Rafe and Sami. And I just found out yesterday that he's gone. Rafe left town.

Chloe: You think that's what EJ wanted all along?

Nicole: It--it doesn't make sense. Rafe got in an accident because he was chasing Sami. So, unless the DiMeras have a suicide deer working for them, it's impossible for EJ to have pulled it off. But it's odd... that things worked out almost as if EJ had planned them.

EJ: There doesn't seem to be any point in continuing this conversation, so I'll be in my office. Please call me if you hear anything about Theo.

[Phone rings]

Stefano: [Sighs] Yes, what is it? What?

Bo: I wanna know where Ciara and Theo are.

Leah: Look, I don't know where they are right now, but I saw 'em a little while ago. They were hanging out behind the silver diner. They were okay, just hungry, so I gave 'em some food.

Hope: Thank you, thank you.

Leah: And I was gonna call the cops, but the little girl begged me not to. When they left, they were heading back to the woods. They couldn't have gotten very far.

Bo: Okay, thank you. Let hope help you. I'll pick up our daughter.

Hope: Okay.

[Door slams shut]

Hope: [Sighs]

Rafe 2: So... this is really important. Okay? I gotta know that he's not gonna talk.

Ciara: He won't. I promise.

Rafe 2: Buddy, are we cool?

Theo: No.

Rafe 2: [Sighs] That's the wrong answer. That's the wrong answer.

Melanie: I do know that. That's about the only thing I know since I'm such a mess.

Brady: You are a mess, but it's okay 'cause it's an appropriate response, given what you've been through. You're a woman who needs some serious R&R, so here's what's going to happen, okay? You're gonna stay here for as long as you want, and I'm gonna look after you. If you wanna scream, you scream at me, all right? If you wanna cry, you cry on this shoulder. If you wanna throw things, I'm gonna duck.

Melanie: [Chuckles]

Brady: And if you just wanna stare at the TV, I'm gonna make you some popcorn. You just do whatever you feel like you need to do for as long as you want to do it until you feel like you again, okay?

Melanie: Thank you... for just being you.

Maggie: You wanna thank me?

Victor: Well, Brady and I are going to make a new start.

Maggie: I'm glad. I still don't see what that has to do with me.

Victor: Well, it's been my experience that whenever Brady does anything that's mature or level-headed, it has something to do with you.

Maggie: So, if it's, uh, mature and level-headed for Brady to try to forgive you, why can't you do the same for Chloe?

Victor: Well, that's an entirely different thing.

Maggie: And why is that?

Victor: 'Cause I say so. Maggie, I know I'm not gonna get you to harden your heart, and I'm not sure I even want to. And what I'm about to say to you is probably gonna sound like the same ol', same ol', but be careful with Chloe. I'm not just a vindictive old man. People around her get hurt. I'm not sure she even means it.

Maggie: I know she doesn't.

Victor: If you're gonna rescue a drowning person, you have to make sure that you don't get pulled under. But, please, be careful.

Maggie: [Sighs]

Victor: If she's so needy, she's dangerous.

Maggie: Okay. I know what you're saying, but I'm actually tougher than you know.

Victor: Oh, hell, you don't have to tell me you're tough... not after this morning. I've got the bruises to prove it.

Maggie: Well, I am still praying for Ciara and Theo.

Victor: Good. He probably listens to you a lot more than he does to me.

[Loud thud]

Ciara: Theo, you have to promise.

Theo: No! I wanna go now!
