Philip: You forgive me? Well, that makes my next question a whole lot easier.
Melanie: Next question?
Philip: Where do we go from here?
Melanie: I've been thinking a lot about that.
Philip: You have?
Melanie: Yeah. I think you'll be surprised with what I came up with.
Philip: Surprised... in a good way?
Melanie: Can we talk about this at the Brady Pub in, like, an hour?
Philip: Why can't I just walk you there?
Melanie: 'Cause I got to go sign the discharge forms at the nurses' station. It's boring. But I want to talk to you.
Philip: So this--this talk, is it about our future?
Melanie: It's about everything.
Daniel: Well, the reason I didn't take Parker was because my daughter, Melanie, she had-- she had a miscarriage last night.
Jennifer: Oh, God, I'm so sorry.
Daniel: No, you know what? Thank you, thank you.
Jennifer: Are you here a-about Parker?
Daniel: Yeah. Yeah, you know, I want you and Maggie to know that I'm not sure what's gonna happen with him next, really, 'cause this morning I signed some papers that said I'm no longer Parker's legal father.
Jennifer: Daniel, I-- I'm sorry. Come here.
Daniel: Nah, you know, it's--
Jennifer: Yes, no, I'm so sorry.
Abigail: So, Mom...
Jennifer: Oh.
Abigail: Who's he?
EJ: Is your hot chocolate too hot? Really? Prove it. [Laughs] You know, I think either you're going to have to start shaving, or I am gonna have to grow a mustache all of my own. [Both laughing] What do you think? Mmm.
Sami: [Whispering] Yeah, so I'm calling to, um, confirm an appointment for Rafael Hernandez.
Maxine: Honey, can you speak up?
Sami: [Whispering] Hernandez!
Maxine: I can hardly hear you.
Sami: It's supposed to be a surprise. Rafe doesn't know about it, so I'm trying to plan this surprise for him, okay? Look...
Rafe 2: What kind of surprise?
Gabi: So I was wondering, maybe during Spring Break, we could probably take the day off and take a train ride to Chicago. Just make that-- and we could probably go see that two-headed monster in Lake Michigan.
Will: [Snickers] [Laughing] Wait, what?
Gabi: Will, you haven't heard a thing I said since you picked me up.
Will: I-I'm sorry. It's just that, uh, I've been thinking about something that I wanted to say.
Gabi: To me?
Will: Yeah.
Gabi: So tell me.
Will: Now? I mean, here on--on--on the pier?
Gabi: Okay, you're kind of scaring me now. Look, I'm not budging until you tell me what's bothering you.
Will: No, no, no, no. No. It's not something, um, bothering me. Okay. Um... uh, it's... this.
Gabi: I--it's not my birthday or anything.
Will: I know. Open it.
Gabi: Oh, my God. I can't take this.
Daniel: Mom.
Jennifer: Yes, this is my baby girl, Abigail Deveraux. Abby, this is, uh, Dr. Daniel Jonas. And not only is he my friend, he is the doctor that saved my life.
Abigail: Oh, my gosh, you-- you're that doctor? Thank you!
[All chuckling]
Philip: I want you to remember something. No matter what boneheaded thing I did, I never stopped loving you, not for one second. All I want to do is spend the rest of my life with you.
Melanie: And you think I only tried to make things work with you because I was pregnant? And that after I lost our baby, now you're--
Philip: I'm really sad... and--and--and scared to death.
Melanie: I didn't just stay with you because I was pregnant.
Johnny: Chad's here.
EJ: Ah. If it isn't my best man.
Chad: Hi.
EJ: Hey. You want to join us?
Chad: I don't know. You sure about that?
EJ: I don't know, Johnny. We sure about that? Yeah? He seems to think so.
Chad: Yeah, well, what about you?
Sami: Uh, I'm gonna have to call you back. I thought you were in the shower.
Rafe 2: I was. Now I'm out. So what kind of surprise?
Sami: Uh, it's just something that you have to do I-I think you're not gonna like.
EJ: Well, sit down, then.
Chad: You know what? That--that's okay. I-I don't want to interrupt anything.
EJ: Interrupt? We're having breakfast. It's not A... top-secret meeting. Johnny... the top-secret part is over, right? Okay. And we think that Chad should stop standing there, sit down, and order some breakfast. Right? Okay, right. Well, then it's decided. Grab a seat.
Chad: Okay. Why not?
Rafe 2: So the surprise--it's something that I'm not gonna like to do? 'Cause I'm standing here, and I'm looking at a lot of things that I'd like to do, if you know what I mean. You know?
Sami: Oh, Rafe--whoa, whoa, whoa, Rafe!
Rafe 2: What?
Sami: I'm sorry, but this-- this can't wait, okay?
Will: Um... I don't, uh... gee, I don't--I don't understand. You don't like 'em?
Gabi: It's--it's not that. It's--
Will: Okay, what is it? I mean, I-I bought them because I saw you eyeing them in the jewelry-store window, so...
Gabi: Yeah, but I-I didn't buy them, because--because they're too expensive. Look, this is really sweet of you. But... I just--I can't take them.
Will: Because you think they cost too much... even if I have the money saved.
Gabi: Why would you spend it on me?
Will: You really have to ask me that? I guess you do. Wow. [Sighs] This is not turning out the way that I expected.
Julie: Nathan.
Nathan: Julie. Hi. What are you doing here?
Julie: Oh, hospital board meeting. I-I just heard that Melanie is being discharged from the hospital today. What are you doing here? Why aren't you with her?
Melanie: I know you know what it did to me to find out about you and Chloe.
Philip: Yeah.
Melanie: And it's not that I think I'm better than you guys--I don't. I don't, believe me. I-I've made my fair share of mistakes, but I'd always committed myself to our marriage.
Philip: I mean, if I could take back that one stupid night--
Melanie: But you can't. And Parker will... always be a reminder that you can't take that back. And I guess that's why maybe I went a little crazy and tried to prove that Chloe was an unfit mother, because I figured... that if I... could take Chloe out of the equation, if you and I raised Parker, then it would be like what happened never really happened.
Philip: Okay. But what does that have to do with what you said before, that... you wanted to stay in our marriage forever?
Melanie: I never stopped loving you.
Daniel: Well, it wasn't just me that saved your mother's life. As you, uh, may know, she's very, um, strong-willed. Yeah, she fought. She wanted to live.
Abigail: Well, I've watched enough doctor shows to know that she, uh, couldn't have done it without you.
Jennifer: That's true.
Abigail: You're the man, doc. I mean that.
Daniel: Oh, okay. Okay. You know what? Um, your visit couldn't come at a better time, because your mother here--she needs to take it easy during her recovery period. And she thinks she's superhuman.
Abigail: Yeah, like I don't know that about her?
Daniel: Right?
Jennifer: Okay, I'm standing in the room.
Daniel: Well, you know what? Make sure she takes care of herself. Good luck with that.
Abigail: Thank you. I'll do my best.
Daniel: Yeah. So, uh, how long you here for?
Abigail: I'm not sure. Actually, uh, I'M... thinking of transferring to Salem U.
Jennifer: What? Wait, what are you talking about? Is this your way of trying to get me to take it easy?
Daniel: Okay, you know what? I'm sure you two have a lot to catch up on, and you know what? Look at that. I got to get to the hospital. So, um, yeah, okay.
Jennifer: Okay, um--
Daniel: Uh, you know what? And don't overdo it, okay?
Jennifer: Okay.
Daniel: I mean that.
Jennifer: Gotcha.
Daniel: All right?
[Door closes]
Jennifer: So... Salem U, huh?
Abigail: I said I'm thinking about it, okay?
Jennifer: Really? Since when?
Abigail: And what's with all this "I'm not ready to move on" talk? You're smiling. I'm right, aren't I? There is life after dad.
Jennifer: No, no, no, no. I'm smiling because you think that you know everything, and you are so wrong.
Rafe 2: You better tell me what's going on. I don't like surprises.
Sami: My Uncle Bo was reinstated as police commissioner, right?
Rafe 2: I heard.
Sami: Well, he was just calling to check in on you. He knows you're on leave 'cause of the accident, and he just wanted to know when you'll be back, you know. And he said you're gonna need to have a physical, a complete physical before you go back to work, just to make sure you're 100% and everything.
Rafe 2: How complete?
Sami: I don't know. I guess blood tests and--I don't know. He said it's some other tests and stuff. But it's worth it, right? Get you back to work?
Rafe 2: Okay.
Sami: Okay?
Rafe 2: I'll do it. I'll take the physical.
Sami: Good.
Nathan: Melanie had a miscarriage last night. I'm not about to push myself on her, especially not while she's grieving her baby. I know what I want. I think it's the same thing that Melanie wants. But until I know she's ready, I'm... I'm not gonna push this on her. I-I'm gonna wait. And then we'll talk about it.
Julie: You are a good man, Nathan. Philip Kiriakis... not a good man.
Nathan: Hmm.
Julie: I'll bet he doesn't care how vulnerable Melanie is feeling right now. In fact, I'll bet he's trying to use that to his own advantage. Nathan, do not let Philip take her away from you again. You go find Melanie... right now. Just tell her how much you love her.
Melanie: I wanted to hate you.
Philip: I know, I know. You made that very clear.
Melanie: Then I got pregnant. And it reminded me of how I felt when we were in love, and I thought if I could remember those feelings, then I can-- I can forgive you.
Philip: Oh, Mel, we are gonna do everything right this time. And you know what? I think we should just leave all this behind.
Melanie: All this?
Philip: Salem.
Melanie: Uh, um... so, um, you've obviously-- you've been thinking about this.
Philip: Well, I'm--you know, Titan has offices all over the world. We can go wherever we want, or we can go on one long honeymoon. New York, San Francisco, Paris-- you name it. Why aren't you saying anything?
Melanie: Oh, I just, um, there's this one thing I'm thinking about.
Philip: What's that?
Melanie: Parker. Where does your son fit into all of this?
Philip: [Clears throat]
Abigail: Okay. What am I wrong about?
Jennifer: Your own feelings.
Abigail: You're gonna explain me to me?
Jennifer: When you walked into the room right now, and you saw me with my arms around Daniel, tell me what you were thinking. Be honest with me.
Abigail: Okay. I was wishing it was dad walking in instead of me. I wanted him to be the one who was catching you with a hot guy.
Jennifer: Okay, so all this talk of yours about you wanting me to move on and make a new life for myself and possibly meet someone new, it's just because you really want to get back at your dad, isn't it?
EJ: Can you see Johnny behind me? He's doing all right, yeah?
Chad: Yeah. The, uh, Barista is showing him how to make a cappuccino. Should be interesting. Listen, while we have a second, um... I'd like to thank you again for standing up for me yesterday.
Chad: It was no big deal.
EJ: It--it was a big deal. You may know my brother Tony was killed a couple of years ago.
Chad: I'm, uh--I'm sorry to hear about that.
EJ: Thank you. We weren't really that close. I mean, we didn't--we didn't grow up together. In fact, honestly, I thought I was adjusting rather well to his death until... I was about to get married. And then I wanted my brother standing beside me.
Chad: Well, luckily, you had a spare.
EJ: Must have been awkward for you, I would imagine... painful too.
Chad: I watched your--your family at the wedding. And I thought to myself... "the DiMeras are way, way weird." Then I said, uh, "but they love each other. And there's no pretending there. They really, really love each other."
EJ: Yes, we do.
Chad: Hmm.
EJ: And now you're a part of that. You get to join in the dysfunction. And I have to work out what it means to have a younger brother. Speaking of which, younger brother, what are you doing today?
Chad: Well, it's my birthday.
EJ: Is it?
Chad: My real one... the one on my original birth certificate. So I thought I'd spend today getting used to being a Pisces. Apparently, we're aggressive and opinionated, but we approach life from a dreamer's perspective.
EJ: Hmm. You have nothing planned, then, right?
Chad: Pretty much, no.
EJ: Well. We'll have to change that.
Chad: Okay.
Sami: Come on, come on. Dr. Jonas, hi.
Daniel: Hey, Sami. Rafe.
Rafe 2: Hey.
Daniel: Hey.
Rafe 2: You doing my physical?
Daniel: Physical?
Sami: Yeah, yeah. Remember, he has to have one for, um, before he can go back to work?
Daniel: Uh, you know, maybe this is something that could--
Sami: Hi.
Maxine: Hey, Sami. I'm glad I finally figured out it was you on the phone.
Sami: Yeah.
Maxine: We're all ready for you.
Rafe 2: Oh, good. You're doing my physical.
Maxine: Maybe I didn't hear you as well as I thought I did.
Sami: No, no, you--you heard me fine. So, um, here's the thing. It, uh--you're not really here for a physical.
Rafe 2: Then what is it, really?
Sami: I made an appointment for you to get an MRI.
Rafe 2: You-- you want them to look at my brain?
Sami: Well, yeah, Rafe, I--
Rafe 2: Good luck with that. No, no. I'm not doing it.
Jennifer: Don't--don't use me to get to your dad.
Abigail: I wasn't using you. I was just--
Jennifer: No, you were hoping that I would hurt him the same way that you think he's hurt me.
Abigail: Hasn't he hurt you?
Jennifer: You know what? That--that is between me and your father. But if he's hurt you, then you need to tell him that.
Abigail: You think I haven't?
Jennifer: Yeah, I think that maybe you haven't... because you've been telling me ever since you were a little girl that you would dream up ways of trying to get us back together. So that doesn't give you a lot of time with him to tell him that you're mad at him.
Abigail: He doesn't care how I feel.
Jennifer: No, I don't believe that.
Abigail: Come on, Mom. We get the same blog posts that he sends to his golf buddies. You had heart surgery. And he never even tried to get in touch with you. I'm so over him.
Jennifer: You know, honey, maybe you're over him. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't love you and your brother.
Abigail: Yeah, in his way, right?
Jennifer: Yes, exactly, in his way. And I have known him a lot longer than you have, and I promise you that wherever he is and whatever he is doing, he is holding a picture close to his heart of you and your brother. And he is telling anyone who will listen to him that he has the greatest kids in the world. And you know that I'm right.
Philip: I haven't forgotten about Parker.
Melanie: Really?
Philip: Chloe and I will work out some sort of custody agreement.
Melanie: Chloe told me Social Services says she has no right to Parker, that you are all he's got.
Philip: And I won't let him down. We can work this out. We still love each other, right?
Melanie: You're asking me to mother the child you had with my father's wife... the baby he just signed over to you. Yes, we love each other. But sometimes... Philip, love is just not enough.
Chad: Ah, thank you, thank you.
EJ: Okay, so I understand that it's not an elegant dinner with champagne.
Chad: No, don't--don't worry about it. It's fine.
EJ: Maybe next year, huh? What are you doing? Happy First Birthday.
Johnny: He's only one?
EJ: Well, you see, this is his first birthday as a member of the DiMera family.
Chad: Uh, you want to... [Voice breaking] You want to help me blow out the candle, Johnny?
[Both exhaling sharply]
EJ: You make a wish?
Chad: Yeah.
Sami: Uh, hold on, okay? So, uh, look--
Rafe 2: You went behind my back. You lied to me.
Sami: Yeah, but I knew it was the only way I was gonna be able to get you to come to the hospital.
Rafe 2: Well, guess what. It didn't work, because I'm leaving.
Sami: No, no, Rafe, come on.
Rafe 2: Whoa, whoa! Whoa.
Sami: Look, Rafe... I'm doing this because I am worried about you. You know I wouldn't have done this if I weren't really scared. Come on, you--you used to be okay with me... acting impulsive.
Rafe 2: Huh. Well, maybe it's time I was a little less understanding.
Sami: Rafe... I'm desperate. You have to know how different you are, that--that-- that this isn't you.
Rafe 2: It's not me? Hmm. That's funny coming from you, considering you're the one who caused the accident that left me this way. [Sighs] Maybe if you'd just give me a little more time.
Sami: I gave you plenty of time, okay? It's not getting better. It's getting worse-- personality changes. It--it could prove that something is really wrong.
Rafe 2: Personality changes? Really? 'Cause what, I-I raised my voice with the kids a few times?
Sami: It's more than that. It's everything. Look, if you won't do it for me, I'm asking you to do this for yourself. Get the scan for the kids... please.
Gabi: [Sighs] Will, you have money, and I don't. But that doesn't mean that you have to buy me expensive things just because I can't afford it.
Will: Wait, that's what this is about?
Gabi: What else would it be about?
Will: Us. I mean, about us. I mean, we--we were friends, right? And then we both went through hell together. And we became more than friends... at least that's what I thought.
Gabi: That's what I thought too.
Will: You did?
Gabi: Yeah, but these earrings, they're--I mean, they're something that you give someone you--
Will: Care about? Someone that you--you can't stop thinking about? I mean, when you want everyone to know that you and this girl are...
Gabi: You can't even say it, can you?
Abigail: Do you think that dad's acting like he loves me and J.J.... or you?
[Parker fussing]
Jennifer: Oh, I got to feed Parker.
Abigail: Can you handle that alone?
Jennifer: Why? Are--are you going somewhere?
Abigail: I thought I'd check Salem out. You know, see how many of my old friends are still around.
Jennifer: Well, don't you want to talk anymore?
Abigail: I'm back, Mom. We'll have lots of time to talk.
Jennifer: Okay. Uh, about Salem U, maybe?
Abigail: If you need me, text me.
Jennifer: Text you? Oh, boy, that'll happen. [Laughs]
Abigail: I've missed arguing with you, mom.
Jennifer: Oh, baby.
Abigail: I'm just--I'm so glad you're okay.
Jennifer: And I am so glad that you're here.
Philip: [Chuckles] Is this some kind of setup?
Melanie: No.
Philip: You just told me you forgave me. You said that you stayed with me because you loved me.
Melanie: I know what I said.
Philip: Well, did I do something to change your mind?
Melanie: No. I did. I lost our baby. You change a little bit after that. Chloe asked me to help you raise Parker.
Philip: She did?
Melanie: She's worried you'll turn your back on him. And I wanted to say yes... because I had just lost my child. And there was Parker. And Chloe wanted me to help you raise him. But I can't... because Parker's not mine. And I can't be in the middle of you and Chloe anymore.
Philip: Look, I-I told you... when Chloe gets it together... she and I will work out some sort of custody agreement.
Melanie: Are you just kind of making this up as you go along?
Philip: What? No! No.
Melanie: Because you were just talking about running away and leaving Salem.
Philip: No.
Melanie: I had to remind you about Parker.
Philip: Oh, come on, that was a daydream. I know we can't do that.
Melanie: There are a lot of things we can't do. I can't expect to have my father in my life if I'm helping you raise the son he thought was his. I love you. I forgive you. But I can't be the mother to the child you had with Chloe while we were married. There's just no-- there's no place for me there.
Philip: Well, there is still a place for you in my life. There has to be. You have a place in my heart, whether you want it or not. You always will.
Rafe 2: Devious little bitch scheduled me for an MRI and a C.T. scan. She frickin' lied to me!
EJ: My father and I warned you about Samantha's wiles.
Rafe 2: If I get blown out of the water, you and your father are going with me on this.
EJ: Okay, relax, all right? We've prepared for this.
Rafe 2: Prepared how?
EJ: [Sighs] Take the MRI. And I will talk to our contact at the hospital.
Rafe 2: And say what?
EJ: I will tell him to make the results come out exactly the way we need them to come out.
Rafe 2: Isn't there some way you can just get me out of this?
EJ: No. Samantha would never let that go. Just take the test and trust that I will take care of it, all right?
Rafe 2: Trust you? Let me tell you something. You're asking me a hell of a lot here.
Daniel: Hey, uh, Sami... did Rafe end up having that MRI?
Sami: He said he needs time to think about it, and now I don't know where he is.
Daniel: Well, you know, he has to consent to the test. No one can make him do it against his will. You--
Sami: I know, okay?
Daniel: Okay, all right. Well, you just seem--you seem a little worried here.
Sami: Well, I am. I'm really worried. He--he seems totally different. He used to be the most patient guy in the world, and now he snaps at the kids. He snaps at me. It's not just that. It's a lot more. And I looked it up online, and it said personality changes could mean--
Daniel: Brain tumor. Well, look, can I make a suggestion? Don't go there. I mean, Rafe had a C.T. Scan when he came in after the accident. There is no evidence of any kind of tumor.
Sami: There's something definitely off about him. Dr. Jonas, if he doesn't get the scan, I'm afraid we'll never find out what it is.
Chad: Everything all right?
EJ: Um... look, I'm afraid something's come up--business matter, something I need to attend to. Would you, uh, mind taking Johnny home? Johnny, do you mind if Chad-- sorry--um... Uncle Chad gave you a ride home?
Chad: Yeah, sure. You know what? It's no problem. Hey, maybe we can, uh--maybe we can hang out here for a little bit longer, kiddo.
EJ: You--do you have--you have my number right?
Chad: You, uh--you gave it to me yesterday.
EJ: Okay, your car is running well, yeah?
Chad: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Well, I put some cardboard over that hole in front of the passenger's seat. Can't see the road anymore. That was a joke. That was--that was a joke. Sorry, bad--bad joke.
EJ: You don't have a booster seat, though, do you?
Chad: Here... [Clears throat] I parked my car right outside the front door. The door's unlocked. And here is my license plate number. You can move his booster seat from your car to mine. Oh, and I got an "A" in Driver's Ed. Never had an accident, not even a fender bender. And I'm fully insured.
EJ: You think I'm being overly protective.
Chad: No, no. I think you love your son. And I know he's been through a lot. But I really care about him too. And I'm not gonna let anything happen to him.
EJ: Okay. Thank you.
Chad: Yeah.
Melanie: You'll always, always have a place in my heart. But I can't be married to you anymore.
Philip: There has to be a way. I mean, tell me what to do. I'll do it.
Melanie: I want you to say good-bye to me. And I want you to go out that door and find Parker... and be a father. Go be a real father.
Philip: I'm not giving up on this. I love you too much for that.
[Door closes]
Melanie: Good-bye, Philip.
Abigail: Angela? It's Abigail. Where are you? Are you on break? Oh, that's awesome. Can you meet me for coffee? I'm at Java. Oh, you'll know me. I'll have a rose in my teeth. Oh, uh, and Angela... I might not be alone.
Chad: Oh.
Abigail: Oh. Sorry.
Chad: That's, uh--that's okay. Hey, there you are. See, I told you they didn't throw it away.
Johnny: I want to give it to mommy.
Chad: I'm sure she's gonna love it.
Will: [Sighs] Uh, okay.
Gabi: What?
Will: It's just... I mean, talking about feelings, um... sometimes I'm terrible at it.
Gabi: Well, I'm not so great at it either. But I think I know what you want to say to me... why you gave me the earrings. And you should know that... um--
Will: What?
Gabi: I feel the same way.
Will: Oh. Cool. Really?
Gabi: Really.
Sami: So could I ask a favor?
Daniel: Yeah, sure.
Sami: If Rafe agrees to the MRI, will you review the results yourself?
Daniel: Why?
Sami: If I hear bad news, I'd rather hear it from a friendly face.
Rafe 2: Okay. I'll do it. I don't want you to be worried about me. So I'll do the scan or the MRI...
Sami: Thank you.
Rafe 2: Whatever you want.
Sami: Thank you so much.
Rafe 2: Okay.
Maxine: You ready?
Rafe 2: Ready as I'm gonna be.
Chad: Is, uh, something wrong?
Abigail: He's cute.
Chad: Yeah, did you hear that, Johnny?
Abigail: Are you and his mother married?
Chad: What? I-- no. But, uh, maybe we'll get around to it someday.
Abigail: You two must have been in, like, high school. I'm sorry. That's none of my business.
Chad: Um, you've noticed.
Abigail: Good luck... I guess. You'll need it.
Chad: That's got to be a real burden... being perfect.
Abigail: I'm not perfect. I just, uh, try not to be stupid.
Johnny: I didn't like that girl.
Chad: Yeah, who would?
Jennifer: Hey.
Philip: Hey.
Jennifer: Come on in.
Philip: Maggie here?
Jennifer: Uh, no, she's not.
Philip: I just came by to pick up Parker.
Jennifer: Yeah, he's right there. I just fed him. He's doing great.
Philip: Hey, buddy. It's your daddy.
Jennifer: He's happy.
Philip: You remember me? Come here. Aw. I'm gonna take you with me tonight. All right? I love you. Hmm.
[Door opens]
EJ: So you administered the MRI, and there was nothing you could do? Hmm?
Sami: Hey, hey! So, Dr. Jonas, did you get the results of the MRI?
Daniel: Yeah.
Rafe 2: Yeah, what's up, doc? Hey, get it?
Daniel: [Chuckles] I get it. Well, you know what? According to this MRI... you weren't even in an accident.
On the next “Days of our Lives" --
Rafe: [Scoffs]
Chloe: What if I lose Parker forever?
Victor: She shouldn't be allowed anywhere near this child ever again.
Sami: This isn't my husband.
