EJ: So I want you to remember that I love you...very much. And your mother, she loves you very much too.

Johnny: You know what I'm doing?

Sami: No.

EJ: No.

Johnny: I'm remembering you. Just in case.

Sami: We're gonna be right here. When you're done, we'll be right here waiting for you. Okay.

Johnny: [I'm thirsty]

Sami: You're just gonna go a little way, okay? But we'll be right here. We're right here. [Sobbing]

Melanie: I'm young. I'm healthy. I could have other babies. Ones that don't have...Philip as a father. Hi, um... I--yeah, I would-- I'd like to make an appointment for next week. Okay, uh, actually, I'm gonna call you back.

[Knock on door]

Melanie: I'm busy.

Stephanie: Damn it, Melanie, let me in!

Philip: Now, look, you're the CFO, right? This takeover happened on your watch. You get this thing overturned. Or start looking for a new job. [Sighs] It's not over. I won't let it be over.

Nathan: It's not up to you, you son of a bitch.

Sami: [Sobbing] Thank you for letting me be with him.

EJ: You don't have to thank me.

Sami: Well, obviously I do. EJ, I need to know something. I told Johnny that I would be here when he gets out of surgery. But if my son ends up blind... are you gonna make him go through this without me? Are you gonna make him face... the rest of his life without me in it?

Stefano: Katherine.

Kate: You have been crying. What's wrong?

Stefano: Oh, no, no. It's-- something got in my eye. It's nothing.

Kate: Bull.

Stefano: You are on your way someplace, so why don't you keep walking?

Kate: Do you remember how good I was at taking direct orders?

Stefano: You were rotten.

Kate: Exactly. You need me. Even though you may not know it. I'm not going anywhere.

EJ: Samantha, just because there was a brief moment when you were close, please don't try and take advantage of that.

Sami: For God's sake, EJ. He was...he was trying to memorize my face. He ran away from your house. Just so he could see me. Nicole...had to force you to tell me. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't even be here, I... is that really what you want for your son? I-is that...

Rafe: Oh, that's nice. Nice work, EJ. That's nice, upsetting her more than she already was. You must be real proud of yourself.

EJ: I've certainly got better things to do than talk to you.

Sami: Rafe... Rafe...he just doesn't understand, he... [Sobbing]

Rafe: I know, I know.

Nicole: EJ...hey, hey. What happened in there?

EJ: Nothing I want to talk about. All right? Excuse me. I'm getting out of here.

Nicole: What are you gonna do?

EJ: I'm going to go and do what is best for my son.

Stephanie: I'm not leaving, Melanie!

Melanie: Maggie's not here, Stephanie.

Stephanie: I didn't come here to see Maggie.

Melanie: Then what do you want with me?

Stephanie: You ruined everything for me, and now you're gonna answer for it.

Philip: Groom's not supposed to be late to his own wedding.

Nathan: Yeah, well, there's not gonna be a wedding.

Philip: Ah, why is that, Nathan? Because you heard Melanie and I separated, and you thought you'd make your move?

Nathan: I can't believe you did this to her.

Philip: Yeah, well... it wouldn't have happened if I hadn't seen you pawing Melanie, slobbering all over her.

Nathan: All right, let's make it my fault instead of you being a man for once, Philip.

Philip: Please. The whole time you were sleeping with Stephanie, you were coming on to my wife. Is that what the Horton's call "honorable"?

Nathan: You know Melanie never gave you a single reason to be jealous of me. 'Cause if she had given me any encouragement at all, I would have taken her up on it. Yeah, you had an amazing woman, and because of something you thought was true, you knocked up her father's wife. Wow.

Philip: Okay. Okay. I'm the scum of the earth. But what about you? For reasons I will never get, ever, Stephanie is madly in love with you. And you're just tossing her aside like yesterday's newspaper because you think Melanie might be available?

Nathan: I didn't break it off with Stephanie because of Melanie. I broke it off because she lied to me, which you know something about.

EJ: My name is, ahem, EJ DiMera. You know that thing they say about there being no atheists in foxholes? Must be getting truer and truer. I'm not here for myself. I wouldn't have that kind of audacity. Um... but for a little boy who... needs more than an earthly intervention. His name's John. We call him Johnny. [Clears throat] And, um... I can't help but think that... the Gods... you among them... may be punishing me for some of the things I've done. His mother... she says I'm a... arrogant, egotistical bastard. [Scoffs] Sorry. It's the kind of thing an... arrogant, egotistical man would think, so...I do. If I wanted to make you a deal... you rid my son of this disease... you allow him to see again... and I'll end my battle with Samantha. I'll let her see Johnny and Sydney again.

Stefano: I came here to be alone.

Kate: Well, of course you did. You wouldn't want anyone to know you're human. Are you going to tell me what's wrong?

Stefano: Giovanni, he is... back in the hospital.

Kate: Why?

Stefano: The cancer, it's, uh, it's affected his other eye.

Kate: [Sighs] Oh, God. How bad is it?

Stefano: Well, he's in surgery right now, and if--if they take this eye too, then he's going to be blind.

Kate: How much more can that little boy take?

Stefano: I know you care for Giovanni.

Kate: Of course, I do. All the time we spent together in that house, he's--he's Will and Ally's brother, he's... he's a great kid. I still think of him as my grandson.

Stefano: Grandson...

Kate: I do! Whether or not you and I are married, I'm always going to love Johnny. Just like I'll always love you.

Stefano: You love me?

Kate: [Tearing up] You know I do.

Stefano: [Sighs] Then why did you betray me?

[Rhythmic knock]

Chad: Hi.

Will: Dude!

Chad: What's up, buddy?

Will: Hey, uh, come in.

Gabi: Hey, Chad.

Chad: Hi. How are you?

Gabi: Good.

Will: I didn't know you were back in town.

Chad: Yeah, well, I was gonna take a semester off, but... decided against it.

Will: Oh...great.

Gabi: Yeah, that is...

Chad: Wow, you guys seem really psyched about it.

Will: No, no, no. [Laughs] We are. We are, really. It's just that my little brother Johnny is having surgery today.

Gabi: Yeah, we're really worried about him.

Chad: What's wrong with him?

Will: Um, well, he already lost one eye because of cancer.

Chad: Oh, wow.

Will: Yeah, and today, they found it in his other eye.

Gabi: He could go blind.

Chad: Blind? Poor little guy.

Nicole: Hey, Mary. No, there's no news yet. I'll let you know. But did--did Sydney get her lunch? I know, she won't let me feed her, either. She's so stubborn. I wonder where she gets that from. You know what? Yesterday, I cut up some grapes into really small pieces, and then I melted some cheese and some bread and cut that up and... well, she--she liked feeding herself that. Okay, I will. Thank you. Hey, Rafe.

Rafe: Hey. So this thing with Johnny... kind of screwed up your wedding day, didn't it?

Nicole: Yeah, we can reschedule. It wasn't gonna be an elaborate affair.

Rafe: Right. Well, thanks... for telling Sami and me about Johnny.

Nicole: I did it for Johnny. I--I wanted Sami to see him before...just in case he...

Rafe: Yeah. Kiss her the last time.

Nicole: Does Sami know you're talking to me?

Rafe: No, she's in the chapel. Figured you'd be with EJ.

Nicole: He took off. I asked him what he was gonna do, and he said, "whatever it takes to save my son."

Rafe: It's gotta be hard on a guy like EJ. Knowing that everything that can be done is already being done. Only thing that he can do is...

Nicole: Pray.

Rafe: You don't think he and Sami...

Nicole: Oh, my God, we have to get to the chapel before all hell breaks loose.

Rafe: Oh, God.

EJ: So I suppose this is in your hands now, really. I just want you to know... if you keep your side of this deal... I won't Welch on mine. I'll let Samantha be a mother to Johnny and Sydney again. Just please save my son. Amen. How long have you been standing there?

Sami: Long enough. Did you mean what you said?

Philip: I don't even know what you're talking about.

Nathan: I heard the two of you yesterday, Philip.

Philip: What?

Nathan: I heard you promise Stephanie you wouldn't tell anyone that she knew about you and Chloe. Does that ring a bell. Hmm?

Philip: You're telling me you called off your wedding because Stephanie didn't tell you about something I did? Something that was none of your business? Man, don't give me that. You heard Melanie had moved out, and you started looking for a reason to dump Stephanie.

Nathan: But then I started to wonder how Stephanie knew about you.

Philip: Her grandmother told her!

Nathan: Yes, her grandmother told her. How did her grandmother know? Huh? 'Cause she heard Stephanie talking to a friend, this--this computer geek. They hacked into the system at St. Mary's and found out about the paternity test. They tried to change the results themselves.

Philip: What?

Nathan: Yeah, I talked to the guy. He says apparently Grandma Brady beat Stephanie to the punch.

Philip: I don't know who this guy is, but he's lyin'.

Nathan: God, just stop it. You knew about the paternity test, Philip.

Philip: Okay...but, but...

Nathan: But? You knew you'd lose Melanie. That's why you kept quiet about Stephanie and what she did, because you were in on it with her the entire time.

Melanie: [Giggling] Philip fathered Chloe's baby. Your grandmother switched the paternity results, but I've destroyed your life?

Stephanie: My grandma did what she did out of love.

Melanie: Love? For who? For Philip? For his daddy? I'm missing the love there.

Stephanie: This wasn't just about Victor. My grandma did it for me.

Melanie: What does it have to do with you?

Stephanie: Because she knew what would happen if you found out Philip cheated on you. You'd go running right into Nathan's arms.

Melanie: And what made you and grandma think Nathan would be there waiting for me? He was supposed to marry you.

Stephanie: Because you never stopped trying to keep him on the hook.

Melanie: What, by marrying Philip? By loving Philip?

Stephanie: All I know is that things changed between me and Nathan after he was quarantined with you.

Melanie: Ooh, the old quarantine room bit. You know, that's just so me. I really know how to bring sexy to the sick room, because there's nothing like a, um, what, a hospital gown, a fever of 105, and an elevated white count to really get my mojo going! In fact, Nathan walked in there a little boy, but thanks to me, he came out a man. Did you ever think that things changed because he almost died?

Stephanie: You wouldn't be so defensive if I wasn't right.

EJ: Isn't a prayer supposed to be between me and God?

Sami: Maybe, but I still heard what you said to God.

EJ: If you have something to say to God, Samantha, I suggest you get on and do it.

Sami: You can stay. If you want to hear my prayer, it's okay. Fair is fair. It's Sami. We both know how long it's been since my last confession. I, um... I'm not gonna try to make a deal with you, 'cause...I know I don't have very much clout where you're concerned. I'm not here for myself. I'm here for my son. Johnny. I'm asking you to make sure that he's okay. I'm asking you to make sure that Johnny can see. Make sure that he has a long, long life. If you do, I promise you won't regret it. 'Cause he's this really... really brave little boy. He's not just brave, he's, um... smart, and he's funny. And he has a really big heart. He's always looking after his little sisters. Well, he looks after all of us, actually. You know, um, he doesn't complain. You know how most kids, they whine or they complain. Not him. Even with the tough life he's had, being shuttled between me and EJ all the time, he only once said to me that he wished... we would just love each other more. That's how I know he's gonna grow up to be twice the person that his father is or that I could ever dream of being. I know that I am no paragon of virtue. And EJ isn't either. But, um... I know you'll deal with us... when you're ready. I'm just... I'm just begging you to... please... please make sure that... Johnny is okay. Please take care of him.

Philip: Now, I knew Chloe was having a test. But that's all. I had no idea I was the baby's father. Not until Stephanie's grandmother blurted it out in church.

Nathan: Yeah, I don't buy that; don't give me that.

Philip: Sure, I knew it was possible. But then Chloe called me with the results. She thought the baby was Daniel's and so did I, and I had no idea what Stephanie was up to, no more than you did.

Nathan: So you knew about Chloe's secret paternity test, and you just figured, "hey, I'll just sit around and see what happens."

Philip: Yes.

Nathan: Yes? When you knew you were gonna lose your marriage? Philip, you didn't try and get in there and change the results yourself?

Philip: You're talking about my son! Sure, I wanted him to be Daniel's kid. But if he was mine, there's no way I was gonna turn my back on him.

Nathan: Never stopped you before. What about, uh, Pocket or Tyler, whoever the hell his name is. How is he doing, by the way? And, actually, I should probably ask you, do you even care how he's doing?

Philip: I'm through talking to you. You get the hell out of here.

Nathan: You stay the hell away from Melanie.

Philip: Who the hell are you to tell me how to act--

Nathan: I am the guy that is going to make sure that she doesn't get hurt again by a pig like you!

Kate: Do you really think we should be talking about all that? While Johnny's sick?

Stefano: You think you can take advantage of me now because I am so vulnerable, is that it?

Kate: [Scoffs] Is that what Vivian told you I would do? Did she tell you that during one of your business meetings?

Stefano: Oh ho. How do you and Victor feel about that, huh? Getting your marching orders from Vivian. Oh...guess you haven't heard.

Stefano: Heard what?

Kate: Well, I'm surprised she didn't tell you. Maybe the two of you aren't as close as you want everyone to believe.

Stefano: Heard what?

Kate: Well, Vivian, she's not running things at Titan now. I'm really surprised you hadn't heard.

Stefano: I have my own business problems right now. It's taking up all my time.

Kate: Of course, you do. Johnny.

Stefano: Yes. [Sighs] Katherine... look at me. Powerful, yes?

Kate: Oh, yes.

Stefano: And still I cannot help Giovanni. Or Elvis or Chad. [Rueful chuckle] Yeah, the great Stefano DiMera. And for those I love, there's not a damn thing I can do.

EJ: So, uh... [Clears throat] We have a deal? Johnny's spared...

Sami: You and I call a truce.

EJ: Okay, permanent truce.

Sami: I am so sick of fighting with you, EJ. I just want our son to be all right. Of course it's a permanent truce.

[Cell phone buzzing]

Sami: What? Is it about Johnny?

EJ: It's a text message from Lexie--he's out of surgery!

Sami: But that's so soon! Is that good news or bad news?

EJ: I don't know, let's go! Come on, let's--he's out of surgery.

Philip: Why don't you put your money where your mouth is?

Nathan: You hit me 'cause you know I'm right. You had an amazing woman. And you broke her heart. But I'm not gonna hit you back. I'd much rather you watch me put her back together.

Philip: She's still my wife. And I'm not giving her up.

Nathan: Listen to me... after what you did to Melanie, if you...go anywhere near her... you're a dead man.

Philip: [Snickers]

Stephanie: What did you say to Nathan when you two were sick?

Melanie: Mm, I don't want to talk about that time with you.

Stephanie: You were in your glory, weren't you? Philip in the waiting room, and Nathan in the bed next to you.

Melanie: Oh, totally. I mean, never mind the near-death experience. I had me a triangle going!

Stephanie: Those looks you were always giving him, Melanie, I saw it all! Okay? I'm not stupid. I knew you were never gonna let go of him, and that's why I did what I did.

Melanie: So you messed with people's lives because you thought I was going after Nathan? Do you have any idea how twisted that sounds?

Stephanie: There's nothing twisted about that letter, though. The one you wrote to Nathan on your wedding day.

Melanie: You really gonna bring that up, right now?

Stephanie: Did Philip ever find out that you were willing to dump him on the alter? That all Nathan had to do was say "okay"? And when that didn't happen, did you do the honorable thing and tell Philip you didn't love him? Hell, no! You married him anyway.

Melanie: I did love Philip.

Stephanie: Just not as much as Nathan, right? [Choking up] Has he been here yet? He has, hasn't he?

Melanie: Yep. He has. But he didn't come because of me. He came because he loved you, because he believed in you. Because then he had to face what kind of a sneaky little liar you really are. Look, I know you're trying to put this one on me, but...if Nathan left you, you have only yourself to blame.

Kate: I don't know how much you've heard, but... things are a little complicated in my family as well.

Stefano: Yeah. I know that Philip is the father of Chloe's child.

Kate: And I thought I hated Sami. But the mother of my new grandson...she's the person I detest most in the world. You know, Lucas couldn't even live on the same continent as Chloe because she hurt him so badly. [Sighs] And now she's broken up Philip's marriage, and yet she's managed to intertwine herself so well that she'll be ev--forever, forever connected to him and that baby.

Stefano: I'm sorry.

Kate: It's been so hard... going through all this without you by my side. I didn't know I was going to miss you so much. Why are we doing this to ourselves... when we know that we're so much better together?

Stefano: [Sighs]

EJ: Hey, what happened?

Daniel: We were able to save the eye.

Sami: Ohh! Thank God!

EJ: And the cancer?

Carly: Dr. Kim says that Johnny will probably need chemo and radiation, but every indication says that we got it all.

EJ: Is he going to be able to see?

Carly: There was some pressure on the optic nerve, and we corrected that, but we won't know about Johnny's vision until we take the bandages off.

Sami: So, um, when can we see him?

Daniel: Well, he's in recovery. Someone will let you know the second you can go in there.

Sami: Well, EJ. He's out of surgery. Are you gonna hold up your end of the bargain?

EJ: Okay, let's go and see how Johnny's doing.

Sami: Together?

EJ: Yes. Together.

Sami: Will you call Will for me?

Rafe: Yeah, sure.

Sami: Okay. And, uh, thank you. I can't thank you enough for what you've done for my son.

Nicole: I guess I will go wait in Johnny's room.

Rafe: I can't tell you what it meant to Sami and me, that... the two of you did this for Johnny.

Carly: We were glad to do it.

Rafe: Yeah.

Carly: So, looks like EJ and Sami are gonna try and smooth things over for Johnny's sake.

Daniel: I hope so.

Carly: Me too. 'Cause when a kid's going through a crisis, the last thing they need is their parents sniping at each other.

Daniel: If you're thinking about Melanie...

Carly: I am thinking about Melanie.

Daniel: She's not a little girl. Whether she wants you in her life or not... that's up to her.

Will: That was Rafe on the phone.

Gabi: What'd he say?

Will: Uh, Johnny's out of surgery. And he didn't lose his eye.

Gabi: Oh, that's great! Did ally get to talk to him?

Will: Yeah.

Chad: So Johnny's gonna be able to see, right?

Will: Yeah. They don't know for sure, but...I mean, so far, so good.

Gabi: Thank God.

Nicole: Oh, uh, hi. Did you--did you call Will?

Rafe: Yeah.

Nicole: Yeah? And it's--it's good news, right?

Rafe: Yeah, well, so far, EJ seems to be keeping up his end of the deal with God.

Nicole: That's great. Johnny will like that.

Rafe: Mm-hmm. What about you?

Nicole: [Clears throat] Me?

Rafe: Yeah. If Sami's back in the picture with the kids, where does that leave you?

Stefano: No, you're telling me the news about Giovanni. It is good?

Lexie: I'd say the doctors are guardedly optimistic. But we won't know about his sight until the bandages come off.

Stefano: Ah, okay. I'm coming to the hospital.

Lexie: No, Father, there's no need.

Stefano: Ok, but...what do you mean "no need"?

Lexie: Okay, look. I know how hard this has been on you, so I want you to go home: Rest, eat, take your insulin on time, and trust me to call you the minute I hear any more news, okay?

Stefano: [Sighs] All right, all right, all right. Just make sure that Elvis calls me, all right? They, have, they have saved Giovanni's eye.

Kate: Ohh.

Stefano: Heh, and this time, they think that they got the cancer.

Kate: Oh, my God. [Laughing] That's wonderful. Ohh!

Stefano: Oh, God. Ah, anyway, um. Alexandra was saying to me I should go home and get some rest. I mean, you know, she can be very bossy...when she wants to be. Good-bye, Katherine.

Kate: Stefano... let me go with you.

Stephanie: You think I haven't been yelling at myself today? You think I haven't called myself screwed up, insecure, and jealous? But at least I only wanted one man.

Melanie: What I don't understand is how did grandma know about Philip and Chloe? Uh-huh. You told her.

Stephanie: I didn't make my grandma change those paternity results. I didn't know she had done it until afterwards.

Melanie: Yeah, but you knew Philip and Chloe slept with each other. A while ago, way before the tests, and instead of coming to me about it, or maybe going to Philip about it, you decide to play God! With my life, with my dad's life, with the little baby's life. All so you could hang on to a man?

Stephanie: Oh, my God! I just love you playing the martyr! Oh, holy saint Melanie. Have you forgotten that you slept with Philip when we were still trying to work things out? You turned Max against me. And then you couldn't stand the fact that Nathan fell in love with me! You had to mess that up, too, didn't you? Well, you won.

Melanie: You call this winning?

Stephanie: [Scoffs]

Melanie: I'm so--I'm so out of here.

Stephanie: No, we are not...

Melanie: Let go of my--

Stephanie: Done here!

Melanie: Stupid!

Stefano: Katherine... why don't we just leave things the way they are?

Kate: I'm not talking about moving in. I just... I just don't want to be alone. I don't think you want to be alone either.

Stefano: When you're right, you're right.

Sami: Thank you for letting me be here with you.

EJ: I just want what's best for my son. And that's you.

Rafe: So you never answered my question before. What happens to you if Sami and EJ make peace?

Nicole: What do you care about me?

Rafe: Well, I don't know. Guess I just wonder what you might do to Sami if you feel threatened.

Nicole: I'm the one that told you and Sami about Johnny. I found the problem in his eye.

Rafe: Mm-hmm.

Nicole: [Sighs] EJ's not gonna turn on me. He owes me one now.

Philip: If I don't stay away from Melanie, I'm a dead man? Who's gonna kill me, you?

Nathan: Leave her alone, Philip.

Philip: Does Melanie know you're threatening me? Ordering me to stay away from her?

Nathan: She hates you now. There's nothing in the world that you can do to make her take you back.

Melanie: Get out of here, Stephanie!

Stephanie: You have pushed me around for the last time!

(Stephanie pushes Melanie down) 

Melanie: [Gasping]

Kate (to Victor): Brady and I took care of Vivian. She isn't a threat anymore.

Chloe (to Philip): I think Melanie's pregnant.

Stefano (to EJ): Are you gonna kick Samantha out of here again?
