Philip: Maybe they'll go away.

Melanie: Maybe it's important. Oh.

[Persistent knocking]

Philip: [Sighs] All right.

Chloe: Hey. I'm really sorry to disturb, but have you seen Daniel?

Melanie: Uh, no, he's at the hospital taking care of Bo. He should still be there.

Chloe: No, he's not. He signed out, and he's not returning any of my calls.

Melanie: That's not like him. Do you think something's wrong?

Chloe: Yes, I do.

Daniel: Any changes?

Carly: Oh, he's sleeping, and he's fine. And he will be fine, thanks to you finding him when you did.

Daniel: Pssh, yeah.

Carly: Daniel, you didn't tell me why you came by to see me last night.

Daniel: I'd rather just focus on Bo right now.

Carly: He's fine. I told you that. Something is making you very unhappy, so talk to me.

Daniel: Well, the reason I came to see you last night was because, um, it's over. It's all gone to hell with Chloe.

Nicole: Dear, dear diary. My ticket to keeping EJ on a tight leash. Proof that he kidnapped his own daughter. Mine and mine alone.

Rafe: Well, whatever the hell this is, Nicole, and however it ties you to EJ, I'm gonna figure it out... today. [Typing]

Brady: Nicole?

Nicole: [Opens door]

Brady: Is this the residence of Miss Nicole Walker?

Nicole: [Chuckles]

Rafe: So Nicole is using code. But for what? Why would she go to such lengths?

[Knocking at door]

Rafe: Ari.

Arianna: Hey.

Rafe: Hey.

Arianna: This is a bad time?

Rafe: Yeah, it is. [Chuckles]

Stefano: [Groans] You are obsessing about this, Katherine.

Kate: I--

Stefano: Reading Madeline's obituary over and over and over again. Look at you. You look totally disconsolate, as if she was your best friend in the whole world.

Kate: Ugh, my God. I am not disconsolate. I am just thinking about her son. I mean, losing his mother at such an early age.

Stefano: Yes, of course, it is sad. It is tragic, all right? But for God's sake, we barely know the boy. If anything, we have to concentrate how her death affected us, right? And when it comes to us, the effect was a good one, was it not? Ugh. My God, that woman was an absolute threat to us, and then all of a sudden, poof ... no more threat.

Kate: If the safety deposit box really was empty, maybe Madeline destroyed Chad's original birth certificate.

[Phone rings]

Kate: Hello.

Chad: Mrs. DiMera, it's Chad Woods. Listen, we need to talk in person as soon as possible.

Kate: [Sighs]

Arianna: Are you not gonna talk to me?

Rafe: Not right now.

Arianna: What are you hiding?

Rafe: Ari, please.

Arianna: And if you lie to me, I'm gonna know it, so you might as well just tell me the truth.

Daniel: [Sighs]

Carly: Daniel, when you say it's gone to hell with Chloe, what does that mean?

Daniel: She doesn't want to marry me. She's suddenly having doubts, and she can't explain why. My God, we're having a kid, and she's hesitating now?

Carly: That can't be it.

Daniel: That can't be it? What is--what does that mean? Did she say something to you? Carly, if you know what this is about, please just tell me.

Chloe: It's not that big a deal. Daniel and I, we just--we got into a fight, and now-- you know what, guys? I'm sorry. I should get going.

Philip: Chloe, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Don't go yet. Maybe you'd like to talk about this.

Melanie: Yeah, yeah, I wanted to go check on Bo anyway, so I'll see you guys later.

Philip: Love you.

Melanie: I love you. Okay. Chloe, whatever you and my dad are fighting about, don't worry about it. You'll get through all that. I mean, you have to. You're having his baby.

Philip: Bye.

Melanie: Bye.

Philip: What the hell is going on?

Chloe: Oh, my God, Philip, this is turning into such a mess.

Philip: What is?

Chloe: I just -- I want Daniel and me to be married and have our baby, and for you and Melanie to be happy. But none of that's gonna happen because Carly won't let it.

Philip: What are you talking about? You said she will. If the baby is Daniel's, everything is fine.

Chloe: Yes, but we don't know that for sure, do we? We need a little bit more time before we can find out the truth, but the thing is I am out of time because Daniel senses that something is wrong, and he thinks I'm postponing this wedding because I don't love him enough.

Philip: Chloe, you have to calm down, okay? Everything is gonna work out.

Chloe: No, the more I think about it, the more I feel it's all over. And the worst part is if it wasn't for wrecking you life too, I would have come clean by now, I swear.

Philip: Nobody's life is wrecked.

Chloe: Oh, it's only a matter of time. You know, I don't know if we can keep this a secret anymore, Philip.

Philip: Yes, we can.

Stefano: Come here. I better get going. Oh, and please, all right, enough with this damn Madeline obituary. Huh? Huh? All done, all done, good. Now she's in the past, too. We dodged a bullet, yes?

Kate: Madeline is a mother. Obviously, I relate to her. I can't help feeling for her son.

Stefano: All right, that's where we differ, darling, because my heart does not go out to people who try to ruin me or their offspring.

Kate: [Chuckles] But he's just an innocent. I mean, he's an innocent young man. I don't understand this 180. You were so kind to him at the hospital.

Stefano: That was then. This is now. I am not responsible for that boy, all right? And neither are you. I have no compassion for him or his buffoon of a father. And I strongly suggest that you have nothing to do with him one way or the other. Save your energy, okay?

Kate: Fine! Fine, I have it. I've got it. I will be just as cold and as callous as you.

Stefano: Oh, Katherine, come on. You are part of so it's time that you learn how the DiMeras deal with their enemies. They do not coddle them. They do not cry for them. They obliterate them. [Sighs]

Rafe: I keep a lot from you, Ari. Like classified FBI business, for example.

Arianna: You've bent the rules before for your trustworthy and devoted sister.

Rafe: Ari.

Arianna: And I've never betrayed your trust, right?

Rafe: No, but, um--

Arianna: But what? What's different now?

Rafe: Um, well...

Arianna: This is about EJ, isn't it?

Brady: Nice place.

Nicole: Yes, well, the east wing is still being renovated and won't be finished till the new year and the pool, well it's taking longer than expected--

Brady: Right. I'm just going to use my imagination to realize it later.

Nicole: How did you find out I was living here?

Brady: It's the age of information, Nicole. It's not hard. Got you something. Apparently it needs water and it eats this food.

Nicole: Okay, well, I will make s gets both.

Brady: Good.

Nicole: Put it over here. I know it's awful, isn't it?

Brady: Hold on, it's not awful. It's kinda cozy.

Nicole: [Chuckles] Cozy?

Brady: Yeah.

Nicole: Yeah.. Now that you're here... hi. [Both chuckle] So, did you really mean what you said, Brady? That you want a fresh start with me?

Brady: Would I be here if I didn't?

Nicole: Would you like a soda?

Brady: Yeah, I'd love a soda. [Sighs]

Carly: Look, whatever is going through Chloe's head right now, I know this. She loves you with all her heart, and she would do everything on this earth to keep you.

Daniel: That's great. She wants to keep me, but she doesn't want to marry me?

Carly: Daniel, come on, you know that's not true.

[Cell phone rings]

Carly: All right, look, I have to go, but we'll talk later, okay?

Daniel: Okay.

Chloe: Philip, I can't do that.

Philip: But it would buy you time, don't you see?

Chloe: Look, I want Daniel in my life more than anything, but adding another lie to all of this?

Philip: Listen to me, Chloe. Please, look. If the baby is ours, we'll deal with it. But if the baby is Daniel's, then everything's gonna work out. You will raise the baby with Daniel, and I'll be with Melanie, as it should be. Chloe, this may feel wrong now, but ultimately you'll look back on this and know I was right. Just do what I said to.

Chad: Mrs. DiMera.

Kate: Chad, come in.

Chad: [Clears throat] Thanks for agreeing to see me.

Kate: Of course. Although I have to say I'm wondering what it's about.

Chad: First, I just wanted to thank you for how you reached out to me right after my mom died. It really means a lot, especially because my father... well, you saw how he treated me.

Kate: Yes, I did. I'm sorry.

Chad: But you've been so kind to me.

Kate: Chad, I really hope that you're not still blaming yourself for your mother's accident.

Chad: Well, actually I am.

Kate: Honey--

Chad: I try not to, because I know how crazy it'll make me, but, see, that last fight I had with my mom, I can't seem to put it out of my head, and I don't think I'll ever be able to until I understand some things about her past.

Kate: What kind of things?

Chad: Well, I was kind of hoping you could tell me.

Melanie: Hey.

Carly: Hi, I thought it was your day off.

Melanie: It is, but I wanted to check and see how Bo was doing.

Carly: Oh, he's stable. He's resting. He's gonna be okay, thank God.

Melanie: That must have been so scary for you.

Carly: Yeah.

Melanie: I know how much you love Bo. And I know I've said this before, but I--I just want you to be happy.

Carly: That means a lot to me.

Melanie: It shouldn't.

Carly: What?

Melanie: You should take for granted that I want you to be happy, you know, and that I care about you because-- 'cause you're my mom. You know, how could I not care?

Chloe: Hey. I heard about you saving Bo's life. You really are a hero.

Daniel: Just at the right place at the right time, that's all. Did what anybody would do.

Chloe: I'm glad you're home. I was just about to call you. I wanted to tell you--remind you actually--how much I love you. And my wanting to wait to get married has nothing to do with my feelings for you. It's not like I wanna put it off indefinitely.

Daniel: Why do you want to put it off at all?

Chloe: I'll tell you why. You're not gonna like it.

Arianna: That's what this is about, EJ. That's why you're acting all weird on me.

Rafe: I'm acting we really? I'm acting weird? You're the one who still trusts EJ DiMera even after everything that I have told you about him, really?

Arianna: So I form my own opinions about people. I thought you respected that about me.

Rafe: Yeah, not in this case, no.

Arianna: Oh, so there are exceptions to that rule?

Rafe: Yeah, actually, there are exceptions. When someone has the last name DiMera, for example.

Arianna: Rafe, you are my brother, and I love you. You've helped me more than anyone in this world in so many ways. But I think on this one, we should agree to disagree.

Rafe: And what if I could show you once and for all that EJ's not the man who you really think he is?

Nicole: So I totally forgot to ask you if you want a root beer or--hey, stop! Wait, wait, wait, give me that.

Will: I know it's not perfect. It's just a rough draft, you know. I can do some revisions on it.

Stefano: No, no, no, no, no. William, no, no, I'm impressed. No, you've done a tremendous job here. As a matter of fact, when this internship is completed, I'm gonna want you to work for us part-time when the new school year starts, hmm.

Will: Are you serious?

Stefano: [Chuckles] I never kid about business.

Will: Wow, um... I mean, thank you. This is incredible. I'll do your company proud, Mr. DiMera. I'll work my ass--I'll work my head off.

Stefano: Or both.

Will: Yeah. Anyway, thank you so much. I guess I said that already.

Stefano: Yes, you did indeed. But you know something? I think I should thank you. Because I know you're gonna be a great as DiMera Enterprises.

Will: I hope so. I just...

Stefano: What? Is something worrying you?

Will: Well, as you know, as you advised, I haven't told my mom about any of this.

Stefano: Uh-huh.

Will: She has no idea I've even done this internship.

Stefano: Well, that's probably for the best, don't you think?

Will: I don't know. I hate being so secretive with her.

Stefano: You know, sometimes keeping secrets is a way to protect those that we love from possible harm. I mean, your mother may assume something, and it just may not be true.

Will: Yeah, she might.

Stefano: Besides... we all have our secrets, right?

Will: [Chuckles]

Chad: It's kind of hard to talk about. But I feel like I have to. I heard right before she died that she was involved in some kind of illegal activity a long time ago, that she was a... a working girl. Now I guess that's kind of a nice word for hooker. And that's actually what my mom and I were fighting about right before she... I'm sorry.

Kate: No, don't be.

Chad: I don't know if it'll even make me feel any better to know the truth, but I must find out, and I'm just gonna be blunt. Your past, Mrs. DiMera, is not exactly a secret in Salem. So I was hoping I could ask you. Is it true?

Daniel: Just say it. What don't I wanna hear?

Chloe: Look, um... you know how worried I've been about this pregnancy, and I've just been an emotional wreck, really. Fragile. I hate that I'm like that, but I can't seem to fight it. Can you at least try to understand that, please?

Daniel: I just don't see why.

Chloe: I just keep remembering Nicole and how happy she was. And then she had that miscarriage, and all these horrible things started happening. And I know that you and I could get through something like that. But I just keep feeling like I have all these reminders about everything that could go wrong. And it just, it stays with me, and it feels like torture.

Daniel: Torture?

Chloe: Yeah. That's why I haven't even told my parents or my sister that I'm pregnant, because I'm scared. Really scared. Daniel, I haven't told you any of this, because I just figured you wouldn't understand how I feel or understand my fears. And I know you. You would try to talk me out of being worried, and I knew that wasn't gonna work. But if I had known how much I was gonna hurt you, I wouldn't have done--

Daniel: Stop. Stop talking. Never mind that. I shouldn't have let myself feel that way. And I was insecure. I was insensitive to you and your feelings again.

Chloe: No, no, no, you weren't. You were confused, and that was my fault. You were upset. You had every right to be. But I need you to know how much I love you and how much I want to be married to you, and that I want us to be a family.

Daniel: I know. I do too.

Chloe: So please, can we just wait a month? Just give me one month.

Daniel: Yeah, I think I can do that. But I need something from you as well.

Chloe: Anything.

Daniel: Always tell me what you're thinking. I don't want you to ever feel like you can't tell me the truth about anything. Okay? Come on, baby, come here.

Brady: What are you so upset about?

Nicole: Nothing, it's just... private.

Brady: Oh, is that a diary? It's a diary, isn't it?

Nicole: Yes, of course, it is, and, you know, you're not just supposed to pick these up and read them.

Brady: Am I in it?

Nicole: Wouldn't you like to know?

Brady: Oh, come on, you're not gonna let me see what's written about me in your diary?

Nicole: No. And what part of "no" don't you understand?

Brady: I wanna see it.

Nicole: No, no. You can't see it, Brady.

Arianna: I know EJ's not perfect. I know his father is bad news. I've not been living under a rock.

Rafe: Are you sure about that?

Arianna: You know, when you were gone, he was the one person who stood by me through this whole ordeal, even more than Brady did.

Rafe: Okay. And what about his motives, hmm? You think he just did it out of the kindness of his heart?

Arianna: He does have one, a heart, did you know? Just like we do. Okay, I get it. I'm in the minority. I don't think that he's a monster. I actual that he's a complicated guy who's just, you know, trying to do better. What are you thinking?

Rafe: Maybe you're right.

Brady: Nicole, it was a joke, okay? Take it easy.

Nicole: I guess I'm just feeling a little humor challenged these days.

Brady: Why? Why are you tense? What's going on?

Nicole: I don't know. I don't know. I guess it's just moving in this place and realizing that I'm all alone. Wait, not complaining. I know that I'm lucky to have my freedom and to have you. You're such a good friend, and you're always there for me.

Brady: Listen, speaking of being a good friend, um, aside from this place being really, really small, I don't like the neighborhood.

Nicole: What? I'm fine.

Brady: Look, I was hoping that you would let me help you find a better place.

Nicole: No, no, no. I can take care of myself.

Brady: I know you can take care of yourself. I would like to help you find--

Nicole: Brady, please, don't--I don't need your help. I don't want you to find me an apartment, okay? This is just temporary anyway. I'll be flying high in no time. My ship is coming I can feel it.

Chloe: Thank you.

Daniel: Yeah.

Chloe: And I'm really sorry for not being completely honest with you before.

Daniel: No, no more apologies. Hey, we're learning. Just had a little miscommunication, but we're getting there.

Chloe: Definitely.

Daniel: Ah, I wish I could stay.

Chloe: You have to work this morning?

Daniel: Uh, no, actually I have a meeting with Melanie.

Chloe: Oh, well, then go.

Daniel: Well, I'll be back soon.

Chloe: Okay, whatever.

Daniel: Whatever.

Chloe: Have fun.

Daniel: I will. Bye.

Chloe: And Daniel, just so you know, I think Melanie's great. And I love you even more for being such a great dad to her.

Daniel: That means a lot.

Chloe: And this baby, I know that you are gonna love him or her just as completely and unconditionally as you love Melanie. What?

Daniel: You know what? I was just thinking.

Chloe: Yeah?

Daniel: Yeah. About an hour ago, I was an absolute wreck. Making all these assumptions, seeing things in a totally distorted way, obviously. Nothing new there. But now I get it. I see the truth. Thank you for making me understand. [Leaves]

Chloe: Oh, Daniel. You still don't see the truth.

Kate: She loved you, Chad. All you should be thinking about in your grief is that she wanted the best for you. That's how you honor her, by focusing on that. On that love.

Chad: But still, I need to--

Kate: No, stop. Shh. Let it go. It's all beside the point now.

Brady: So you're figuring things out, huh?

Nicole: Yes, I'm investing.

Brady: Really?

Nicole: Mm-hmm.

Brady: In what?

Nicole: Oh, nothing important. Risky, it could possibly bust me out.

Brady: See, now I'm worried. I don't like the way that sounds. Is this involving EJ in some way?

Nicole: No, no, absolutely not. It is nothing illegal. Look, do you want to have lunch?

Brady: [Chuckles] Yeah, let's go to lunch. I'll pick you up in about an hour. We're gonna drive someplace, we're gonna eat along the way. It'll be fun.

Nicole: Hmm.

Brady: Yeah?

Nicole: Yeah, sounds good.

Brady: All right. [Chuckles as he leaves]

Nicole: Oh, Brady. I love you so much, you have no idea. I just have to secure my future, and I'll be set.

Rafe: Anyway, listen, I've really got to get back to work.

Arianna: It's nice talking to you.

Rafe: You too.

Arianna: Bye.

Rafe: Benefit of the doubt. [Scoffs] As if. There is no doubt. Why argue with you, though, until I get proof? You're just gonna waste-- what do we have here?

Melanie: Philip. Hey. Hey, do you know where -- where's Chloe?

[Pounding at door]

Melanie: Uh...

Daniel: Ha, there she is.

Melanie: Hey.

Daniel: What? You didn't think I forgot our father/daughter date today, did you?

Melanie: Was that today?

Daniel: Hm-hmm. Hey, Philip.

Philip: How are you?

Daniel: Good. How you doing, man?

Philip: I'd love to stay, but I gotta go. Okay? Talk to you later?

Philip: Bye.

Melanie: Bye.

Philip: See you.

Daniel: Well, in honor of your upcoming graduation--

Melanie: Yeah, I don't wanna about that. First I want to talk about you, really fast, you and Chloe. I'm surprised you even remembered my graduation--

Daniel: Well, now Chloe and I talked, we talked. Everything's a lot better. And I would never forget something as important as this. And to show you how proud I am of you...

Melanie: What is this?

Daniel: I can't tell you. You gotta open it.

Melanie: Oh, my gosh. These are so pretty. Whoa.

Daniel: Well, I was thinking of getting you a T-shirt that said, "Number One Nurse," but I thought the earrings might be a little more classy.

Melanie: I love it. These are that was so cool. Thank you. Thank you so much.

Daniel: Ahh--

Melanie: But seriously, really. You and Chloe, I'm worried, because it feels like there are some serious problems that you guys need to talk out or maybe--

Daniel: No, no, no, no. No, I was just being dense. Big surprise. But I know what's going on now, and everything's--everything's fine. Couldn't be better.

Carly: Did something happen?

Chloe: [Sighs] Yeah, more of the same. I lied to Daniel again. I told him the reason that I don't wanna get married is because I'm feeling irrational and worried about my pregnancy. And he's so trusting that he just believed me. I bought myself another month at least, but I can't go on like this. I just can't.

Carly: Chloe, this. It's gonna end long before that.

Kate: I hope I've helped a little.

Chad: Well, you've certainly given me a lot to think about.

Kate: Chad, I... I'm very sorry for what you're having to go through. I am. But I can see that you have a lot of courage.

Chad: I don't know about that. But look, I was--I was wondering, you know, maybe we can--maybe we can talk again?

Kate: Yes, of course we can, anytime.

Stefano: Chad. To what do we owe this pleasure?

Philip: Damn it. Daniel, you bought another lie because of me. Maybe it's time to come clean. But don't you see? It's because I thought you were with Nathan.

Melanie: Oh, yeah. That's a beautiful excuse for sleeping with my father's fiancée.

Philip: Melanie, I love you.

Melanie: Philip, you betrayed me in the worst possible way. And not only that. You destroyed my father's life.

Philip: Because I thought--

Melanie: [Slaps Philip] I will never forgive you. Nothing that you can say to me will ever make me forgive you. I hate you. Leave me alone. We're done. We're done.

Chloe: Wait, so we can do the paternity test tomorrow?

Carly: Yeah, I made the arrangements under an assumed name, of course.

Chloe: But where? Not at Salem U, right?

Carly: No, of course not. At St. Mary's across town.

Daniel: Yeah, yeah, no problem. Okay.

Melanie: What was that about?

Daniel: Well, I've been asked to assist in a skin graft surgery across town.

Melanie: Cool.

Daniel: A special case, somewhat complicated.

Melanie: Mm-hmm. Do you have to go now?

Daniel: No, tomorrow. But would you like to come with me and observe?

Melanie: Ser--ye--yeah! That'd be so cool. Where?

Daniel: St. Mary's.

Stefano: Well, what is going on?

Kate: Chad stopped by to see Will, who wasn't here. And I took the opportunity to offer my condolences again.

Chad: Ah, yeah. Thank you for being so kind. Um, take care.

Kate: Yes.

Stefano: So he just comes by to see William? And he doesn't I.M. him or text him the way they track each other down anymore--

Kate: No, no, nope. He didn't. He doesn't. And since he was here already, he wanted to talk about his mother.

Stefano: You told him nothing, I hope.

Kate: Nothing important.

Stefano: Ah, good. Because given the circumstances, I think it's best if you stay clear of this boy. As a matter of fact, from now on when he comes by the house, I'm gonna have Harold tell him that you are not here.

Kate: Of course, no problem.

Stefano: We have to make Chad Woods go away. Understood?

Nicole: EJ, it's me. We need to talk about our deal, what you owe me, and when you're gonna deliver.

Rafe: This is exactly what I've been looking for. [Chuckles] Oh, Nicole, Nicole, Nicole. You are so busted.

Bo (to Carly): I will only be safe if I find the person who did this to me.

EJ (to Nicole): If those tapes ever turn up, I'll kill you.

Rafe (to Sami): You can't have it both ways.
