Maggie: Chloe? What were you thinking about?

Chloe: Thinking? Actually... I was thinking of Daniel. I'm always thinking of him.

Kate: "Many years of happiness." Not for you, Chloe. Your time's running out. [Sighs]

Daniel: Hey, Philip, what's up?

Philip: Thanks for getting here so quickly.

Daniel: Yeah, you sounded pretty upset on the phone.

Philip: Why would Stephanie be taking these? What's going on with her?

Stephanie: I can't be with him, Father. It's over. It has to be. You're not saying anything. I thought you'd be pleased.

Father Matt: Before you think of leaving your fiancé, there's something you need to know. And it's the most important thing of all.

Nicole: We had so much fun, didn't we? It was great to see Mommy, huh? Okay, but here's the thing. If you want to see her again, we gotta keep this our little secret, all right? Just like we did on the way over.

Johnny: Yeah.

Nicole: Oh, you are such a great guy, Johnny.

E.J.: Nicole.

Nicole: Oh, hi...EJ. Johnny and I, we were just, um...

E.J.: Keeping secrets, I heard.

Nicole: Uh...

Sami: Hey. Hey, Rafe. Who's Emily?

Rafe: Oh... she's-- she's just someone that I knew.

Sami: How?

Daniel: Philip, I really can't say--

Philip: No, Daniel, you can. Don't play games with me. Okay, maybe you didn't prescribe the medication to her, but you had to know about it, right? When she took that fall, you had to ask her whether or not she was on medication, right?

Daniel: You need to speak to Stephanie about that.

Philip: [Sighs] I mean, can you at least tell me if these pills had something to do with her fall?

Daniel: No. No, I can't. And if that's all you want, I really gotta get going--

Philip: No, I'm not just being curious here, or snooping or whatever. I'm trying to help the woman I love. These pills are no joke, man. They're serious drugs.

Daniel: Doctor/patient confidentiality-- I'm sure you understand.

Philip: She is my fiancée.

Daniel: Well, then you need to talk to her. I'm sorry.

Philip: Daniel.

Daniel: No, I am sorry.

Philip: Daniel. Daniel!

Stephanie: The most important thing?

Father Matt: I don't want you to suffer any more than you already have. Now, this going back and forth-- if you're gonna break away this time, you have to truly mean it. For your sake and for Philip's.

[Cell phone rings]

Stephanie: It's Philip again.

Father Matt: Go ahead.

Stephanie: Hey.

Philip: Steph! Oh, my God, are you okay? Is everything all right?

Stephanie: No.

Rafe: Yeah, uh, Emily... it's a long story.

Sami: I've got time.

Rafe: Well, maybe someday I'll tell you about it. But right now I just want to hear how you're doing. All right?

Sami: Rafe...

Rafe: What?

Sami: Come on, you can tell me. What's the deal? She was-- she was your girlfriend or something?

Rafe: No, it's just I don't want to talk about it right now. So can you just leave it alone?

Sami: Why are you hiding this from me? Why can't I know about Emily?

E.J.: You share a secret, do you?

Nicole: Actually, um...we do. Now, I was just telling my little buddy here that even though we're not supposed to have ice cream before dinner, if he promises to clean up all--

E.J.: Shh. Buh buh buh. No. You can't tell me. It's a secret, right?

[All chuckle]

Nicole: Okay, kiddo.

E.J.: You're certainly entitled to some secrets. Actually, I'm glad you have them.

Nicole: You are?

E.J.: Yeah. Means you two are getting closer. Makes me very happy. Hey! Come here, big fella. [Exaggerated groan] You're going to be spending lots of time with Nicole. Daddy thinks that's terrific. [Chuckles] I've got another secret for you. Mary, who's out there, she's made your favorite lunch: mac and cheese. Want to get it while it's hot? Yeah, okay. Come on. Unh! Let's go and get it. Let's go. This way. He adores you.

Nicole: Yeah, he's a sweet kid.

E.J.: It's good you're getting closer... especially as you're going to be the most important woman in his life soon.

Nicole: News on the custody front?

E.J.: Um, some, yeah. Judge Fitzpatrick came around earlier. She was a little conflicted at first, but I think that by the time she left she-- well, she saw things from our point of view. So I don't think it's gonna be too long before me, and by extension you, have sole custody of Johnny. Nicole, you look morose. This is wonderful news.

Nicole: No, EJ, it's anything but.

Philip: I'm sorry, I didn't hear what you said. You broke up.

Stephanie: Never mind.

Philip: Where are you? I need to see you.

Stephanie: Okay, I'm on my way.

Philip: Okay. I love you.

Stephanie: I love you, too. [Sighs]

Father Matt: Stephanie, are you having second thoughts?

Stephanie: I'm gonna do what needs to be done.

Maggie: You can talk to me, Chloe. You know that, don't you? See, I want to help you. I really do. So talk to me. Tell me what you've been feeling.

Chloe: [Sighs] Well, I told you that I can't stop thinking about Daniel.

Maggie: Well, that's because you are still guilty.

Chloe: No, it's because I'm still in love with him. Now, I thought that my promise to God would make all these feelings go away eventually. But they haven't. God may have given me the strength to let Daniel go, but he hasn't taken away the feelings that I have for him. I don't think he ever will. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that I'm having second thoughts about Lucas. In fact, it's-- I'm more committed to him and Allie than I've ever been before.

Maggie: But you are in love with another man.

Chloe: Is it so impossible to want to build a life with one person and make them happy while still aching over the loss of another one?

Maggie: Oh, Chloe, only you can answer that.

Chloe: I think it's possible. I can--I--I will. I will. But one thing doing this TV show with Daniel has taught me is that we just need to be apart.

Maggie: So are you saying from now on you're planning to completely avoid Daniel?

Chloe: Yeah. To make sure that nothing happens. Because I'm never gonna leave Lucas. Never. I'm gonna be with him for as long as I live.

Philip: Hey.

Stephanie: Hey.

Philip: Are you okay? I was so worried about you.

Stephanie: Yeah, I'm fine. Tired, but...

Philip: Does it have anything to do with these? Look, I found them over there. Do these have something to do with your fall?

Stephanie: Yes.

Philip: Stephanie, you gotta talk to me. We gotta sort this out, come on.

Stephanie: Actually, we don't. Um, I'm not taking those anymore. I'm done with it. I'm done with it for good.

Philip: What changed?

Stephanie: You and me.

Daniel: Oh, hey, Maggie.

Maggie: Hi, Daniel. Um, is everything okay?

Daniel: Yeah, no, I'm just, you know, worried about a patient, that's all.

Maggie: Oh, well, then this can wait.

Daniel: W-w-wait. Well, what? What, is something going on?

Maggie: Uh, no, it really isn't urgent.

Daniel: Talk to me. What? What, is this about Chloe?

Maggie: Danny, you know, I do know what it's like to-- to think that you can never get over someone. The thing is, it can happen. Maybe that's why I believe in free will more than I do fate. I always have. So I'm convinced that it's all up to you. So you can make this very painful situation for you and for Chloe go away... with strength and discipline. And then... she will be out of your life for good.

Kate: There she is, the lovely new mistress of the house.

Chloe: Hey, Kate. I wasn't expecting you.

Kate: I came by so you could give me the grand tour. I hope that's not a problem. Wow, that's a great basket. Who's it from?

Chloe: Daniel.

Kate: That's right, I forgot. He told me he was going to send something over for you and Lucas, and that is absolutely perfect--a basket filled with goodies.

Chloe: Yeah, it was very thoughtful of him.

Kate: Granny Smith apples, your favorite.

Chloe: Yes, they are.

Kate: So Daniel remembered that that was your preference. Oh, I didn't mean that as a dig. I really didn't, honestly. Although, I mean, I have to tell the truth. It did remind me of your affair. I don't want to lie about that.

Chloe: Okay, you know what, I will just get rid of the apples. I'll throw out the whole damn basket.

Kate: No, no, no, no, don't do that. That would be a terrible waste. Please. You and Daniel have put that whole thing behind you. I mean, that's a gift out of friendship. I'm telling you, if there's something in there that you would really like, you should just grab it. It's not a sin, you know. Go ahead, take a bite.

Philip: You and me? What changed?

Stephanie: Philip, you've been so good to me. You've given me everything-- a car, jewelry, donations for my parents...and love. Especially love. And you've proved that you'd risk your life for mine. I know that.

Philip: Where are you going with this?

Stephanie: What I'm trying to say is, even though I'm grateful for that, there's still one thing you can't give me.

Philip: And what's that?

Stephanie: Peace of mind.

Philip: Peace of mind? I'm not following. What?

Stephanie: I can't live with you anymore. Because if I do, I won't be able to live with myself.

Philip: No, no, no, don't say that. We can work this out, okay? You can't just throw it away.

Stephanie: There's no other way. That's why I'm saying good-bye.

Chloe: Oh, my God.

Kate: What?

Chloe: Allie--I'm supposed to pick her up from the pub. I can't be late 'cause Caroline has a doctor's appointment. I--I can't believe I forgot.

Kate: Well, um, I'll-- I'll go with you. I've been dying to see her. It's just perfect.

Chloe: Okay, sure, if you want to. Um, I'll drive.

Kate: Okay.

Sami: Listen, I'm sorry that I was pressing you about Emily. Obviously it's a sensitive subject.

Rafe: Yeah. Well, the thing is, I just want to focus on you right now.

Sami: I'm lucky to have you.

Rafe: It goes both ways.

Sami: Hey, listen, I have to talk to you about something. Not about Emily. Look, I won't bug you about it anymore.

Rafe: Okay. Well, what is it, then?

Sami: It's about Nicole.

E.J.: What? My getting custody of my son is anything but wonderful?

Nicole: I love Johnny very much. And I would do anything for him.

E.J.: Go on.

Nicole: But I can't replace his mother.

E.J.: [Sighs] Nicole... I'm not asking you to. I'm not an idiot.

Nicole: Of course you're not, but...

E.J.: But what?

Nicole: You think it's so simple. I mean, Johnny not being able to see his mother, but I'm here. So, you know, it's no big deal. He'll be fine.

E.J.: What is this about, exact-- I mean, do you not want the responsibility?

Nicole: No, no, that's not what this is about, EJ. I love taking care of Johnny, and the more he's here, the happier I am. [Sighs]

E.J.: Go on.

Nicole: I feel sorry for him.

E.J.: You feel sorry for him?

Nicole: Look, when he stays here overnight, I mean, there were a few times that you were out, so I had to tuck him in, and he cried.

E.J.: Oh, ho hum, he's a little boy--he cries. Stop the presses, come on.

Nicole: For his mommy. He cried for his mommy. He wanted her to tuck him in.

E.J.: I'm sure he did, but you tucked him in and you comforted him and he was fine.

Nicole: Yes, I comforted him. But he didn't stop crying. I had to lie down next to him until he fell asleep.

E.J.: Nicole, I tuck him in all the time. He doesn't cry. It's not that tragic, okay? Once he becomes a little bit more independent, he's gonna stop crying over his mother because he's gonna bond with you and he's gonna have friends and interests and activities and games and all kinds of things.

Nicole: Wait, wait, wait, wait, you think friends and games are gonna help him forget about his mother?

E.J.: I don't think they'll help him forget about his mother. But what they will do is they'll ease the pain somewhat, and then, eventually, it will just disappear. Besides which, a little difficulty in life breeds character.

Nicole: Oh, my God, you didn't just say that.

E.J.: It's absolutely true. All of these kids who go through life with a silver spoon in their mouth, who have everything handed to them... the moment the tide changes, they get a little bit of adversity, I mean, they're stuck. They've got no idea what to do.

Nicole: So Johnny being taken away from his mother is gonna better able him to deal with life's adversities?

E.J.: Yes, thank you. And I'd appreciate it if you don't get involved in my arguments.

Nicole: I just think that taking Johnny away from Sami entirely-- you know what, whatever I say just makes you angry, so I'm gonna shut up.

E.J.: No, wait, stop. I'm sorry. Look, wait a second, all right? Sorry. Nicole, you're a-- you're a very caring and loving woman. And, uh-- and you're a mother. And so I'm sure there is a part of you that empathizes with Samantha. But I need you to empathize with your husband, please!

Nicole: I do.

E.J.: I lost a daughter. Me, not you. Me.

Nicole: I lost a daughter too.

Philip: Stephanie, I don't know what's going on with you right now, but you're obviously not yourself. Okay, maybe it was the fall or maybe it's the drugs, I--

Stephanie: It's not the drugs.

Philip: Well, it sure as hell is something because you're not acting like yourself. Anyway, we've been through this before. We've broken up a few times. I know you'll come to your senses.

Stephanie: Philip, you're not listening to me.

Philip: [Sighs] We can work this out.

Stephanie: I'm not trying to change you this time, Philip. I know that's a lost cause. And as for changing myself, I've come to realize that that can't happen. And that's why I am leaving you for good this time.

Maggie: Daniel?

Daniel: I'm busy.

Maggie: Oh, okay. Well, maybe later. Um, I just thought maybe you wanted to continue this conversation.

Daniel: I don't.

Maggie: Okay.

Daniel: Maggie... I know you mean well. But quite frankly, I have had it with the advice, the empty reassurances. Because I know-- and this is about me, after all-- that I will never forget Chloe or stop loving her. 'Cause nothing-- nothing can take away what's in my heart. Not time, not God. Nothing.

Arianna: Hey, I just talked to Caroline. She'll be right down with Allie. Just give her a few minutes.

Chloe: Great. Thanks.

Kate: You know what I would like is a nice cup of coffee.

Chloe: Sounds good.

Kate: Could you place that order for me? Make it a cappuccino.

Chloe: Right. Okay, be right back.

Kate: Thanks. I have so much work to do today. Allie, no! Honey, no, don't. Give me the apple, okay? Thank you--just give it to me.

Chloe: Kate?

E.J.: You lost a daughter?

Nicole: What I mean is I feel like I've lost a daughter... because in my heart I have. I mean, Grace was born at almost exactly the same time as Sydney, which is why I have taken her-- her death so terribly hard. Just like you. Which is why I feel for Sami now.

E.J.: She lied to me about my daughter. My own flesh and blood. She lied to me. There is no forgiving. There is no undoing.

Stefano: Am I interrupting?

E.J.: No. We're done here.

Kate: Allie, baby, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you. I--I just--I--I-- she surprised me. I didn't see her there.

Arianna: I apologize, Ms. Roberts. She was with me one second, and then I took a phone order.

Kate: No, that's okay. It's not your fault.

Chloe: Now, Allie, honey, if you want my apple, you can have it, okay?

Kate: No, honey, it's too close to dinner. That's not a good idea.

Chloe: Hmm...maybe Grandma's right. You know what we can do? We can go for a walk on the pier. Does that sound fun? Yeah. Hey, why don't we take a rain check on that chat?

Kate: I have a better idea. I'll just go with you. I've been wanting to spend some time with my adorable granddaughter anyway. That's not a problem, is it?

Chloe: Uh, no. Sure, if you'd like, yeah.

Kate: There's nothing I'd like better.

Philip: Look, this is all just posttraumatic stress stuff, okay, from being locked up.

Stephanie: Yes, it is, actually. And if that horrible experience hadn't happened, I may have never been forced to look at the truth.

Philip: The truth about what?

Stephanie: Philip, we both know that I was kidnapped because of the Kiriakises. Your family had Stefano, and you and your father were willing to kill him.

Philip: Stephanie, the feud is over.

Stephanie: Well, I'm still lying to my uncle Bo! And to my cousin Sami, who needs my help. I can't even tell them what really happened. And for what? For what? So the Kiriakises and the DiMeras can go back to business as usual? [Sighs] Philip, it's not your fault. It really isn't.

Philip: I mean, if you had to put the blame on somebody, I guess it would be me. I'd be the first in line.

Stephanie: You were honest with me from the beginning. I've known about your family. I'm the one who lied... to myself. I just told myself that I could deal with it. And I can't. I never can.

Philip: No. No, no, no, no, no, no. Stephanie, you cannot do this. I am not letting you go.

Stefano: I was merely going to ask what you and Elvis were discussing.

Nicole: It's complicated.

Stefano: It was not Rafael Hernandez?

Nicole: What?

Stefano: He was here today. Any idea why?

Rafe: What about Nicole?

Sami: She brought Johnny to see me.

Rafe: What?

Sami: Yeah. She snuck him out of the house so he could spend some time with me.

Rafe: Wow.

Sami: And she said she was doing it for Johnny. She said...that she disagreed with what EJ was doing.

Rafe: That was today? She brought Johnny over today?

Sami: Yeah, just a little bit ago.

Rafe: Well, that's great. I'm happy for you.

Sami: The only thing is...

Rafe: What? What?

Sami: She said that you had been by, and that you were digging around trying to... find something.

Rafe: Okay, well, we can talk about this later. But, um, look, just so you know, I did not go over there to upset her.

Sami: I didn't think you did.

Rafe: Well, okay. Anyways, it's great that she's helping you-- not that we're gonna have to worry about that for long because we're gonna get Johnny back.

Sami: I know we are.

Rafe: I should go.

Sami: Hey, um, Rafe... I don't know what I'd do without you.

Rafe: You either.

Stephanie: Look at it-- this beautiful, expensive ring. Where'd the money for it come from? And this mansion, my car? We both know it didn't all come from Titan.

Philip: All right, things aren't as black and white as you'd like them to be.

Stephanie: Black and white? Philip, we're talking about crimes. And the worst part about it is I'm benefiting from it! Over people suffering. As if it's just, I don't know-- it's nothing but you and me.

Philip: It is you and me. Stephanie, we are what matter.

Stephanie: "We are what matter." Philip, would you-- would you listen to yourself?

Philip: What I meant to say was-- is that I love you. And I want you to be safe and happy. And I will do anything to make that happen.

Stephanie: I'm sorry, Philip. I'm sorry for what I'm about to do because I love you too. I just--I can't hide from the truth anymore.

Philip: [Sighs]

Kate: She's going to be fine. She's with her friend and the mother's watching both of them.

Chloe: Allie, we're right over here.

Kate: Well, of course we are. We haven't moved since we got here.

Chloe: Not too close to the edge, sweetheart, please.

Kate: My God, I thought I was overprotective, Chloe.

Chloe: Yeah, I need to calm down, don't I?

Kate: Well, maybe you're hungry. Maybe that's why you're all wound up. I know I get that way when I don't eat. You know, low blood sugar equals irritability.

Chloe: Yeah, I've heard that.

Kate: You could snack on that apple you have.

Chloe: Oh, yeah, I guess I will.

Kate: What?

　Nicole: I don't know why Rafe came by.

Stefano: Well, he must have given you some reason, even if he lied.

Nicole: Well, he said he came by to thank me for being so understanding at the funeral, and to smooth things over between Sami and me, given that the hearing for Johnny is coming up.

Stefano: Hmm. Uh, there's gotta be more to it than that.

Nicole: Yeah, that's what I thought too. But, you know, I mean, the guy is ex-FBI. He's not with the bureau anymore, but he snoops around out of habit.

Stefano: And what is it that you fear? That he senses that something is off? That he is beginning to suspect that it is Sydney and not grace who is Elvis and Samantha's baby?

Nicole: No, no. There's no way he thinks that.

Stefano: Not yet.

Sami: [Clears throat] Hey, Arianna?

Arianna: Sami.

Sami: Hi. Um, have you seen my daughter Allie? I just wanted to catch her before Lucas picks her up.

Arianna: You just missed her. Chloe and Mrs. Roberts picked her up about ten minutes ago.

Sami: I figured I'd be too late. Thanks.

Arianna: Sami. I keep thinking about little grace. And I can't even imagine what you're going through.

Sami: Yeah. Uh, thank you. I was just visiting her at the cemetery. It's, um-- it's beautiful. Peaceful.

Arianna: I'll go myself sometime. Pay my respects.

Sami: I'm sure she'd like that. Uh...Rafe was just there.

Arianna: He was?

Sami: Yeah. He, uh-- he stopped by, on his way to see grace, at another grave. A girl named Emily. Do you know her?

Arianna: Sami...

Sami: Do you know who she was? Why Rafe went to visit her?

Rafe: Sami. What the hell are you doing?

Philip: So that's it? Just like that?

Stephanie: No. I just-- I want you to be happy. I really do. Because I think you have a good heart. I know you do. Good-bye--good-bye, Philip.

Philip: [Sighs]

Kate: Well, what an interesting coincidence. Chloe was just about to eat an apple from the basket that you sent to her and Lucas. The housewarming gift.

Daniel: Right.

Kate: Well, I think I'm gonna go check on Allie.

Chloe: [Sighs]

Daniel: What is going on there?

Chloe: She is never gonna stop hating me, Daniel.

Daniel: Oh, stop it, come on.

Chloe: No, it's true. A person can feel when someone doesn't like them, okay? Just the look in her eyes and the tone of her voice.

Daniel: Look, I am so sorry.

Chloe: Why? You didn't do anything wrong.

Daniel: [Scoffs] I wish that were true.

Chloe: It'll never get easier, will it?

Daniel: I can't seem to do anything that doesn't hurt you in some way.

Chloe: You're not hurting me. Don't say that.

Daniel: Having to suffer Kate's constant innuendos-- now about a fruit basket.

Chloe: No, it's okay. You know what, I'm just being a drama queen. What else is new? I can handle Kate. It'll all be fine, all right? What you did, sending us a gift, it was--it was beautiful. It was very thoughtful. Okay? So thank you.

Nicole: Rafe will never find out about the baby switch. Do you understand me? Never!

Stefano: Hope all you like, but the fact is... the more you dig, eventually you're going to hit oil.

Nicole: Well, thank you for the grim metaphor. But it is not gonna happen. I will die before that happens.

Stefano: Nicole, the man has an FBI background. He is deeply devoted to Samantha. All right?

Nicole: Oh, my God. Oh, my God. That means he's been onto me before any of this even happened. I mean, he's talked to Mia. And what if-- what if he finds out that Sydney really is Sami's ba-- oh, my God, Stefano, what are we gonna do?

Stefano: [Sighs] [Clears throat] There are options, Nicole. But for now, I am going to take a very active interest in Rafael Hernandez.

Arianna: I should get back to work. Excuse me.

Rafe: What's going on?

Sami: I was just talking--

Rafe: You were just-- you just promised me not even 15 minutes ago that you weren't gonna ask any more questions about Emily.

Sami: Well, it wasn't like that.

Rafe: So you weren't grilling my sister about her?

Sami: It just came up.

Rafe: You brought it up.

Sami: Look, I didn't realize it was such a big deal.

Rafe: Well, you know what, it is a big deal to me, okay? You should have respected that.

Sami: Okay, I'm sorry.

Rafe: Whatever. Doesn't matter. You just need to promise me that you don't ever talk about Emily again. Do you understand? Never.

Kate: I think the audience should know the truth about you.

Lucas: What truth about them?

Arianna: Is there any way you can talk to Sami? Convince her to stop seeing my brother?

Rafe: If you're gonna revert to your old habits, then this isn't gonna work, okay? We're done.
