Kate: Look at you. You're all ready to be released, huh?

Lucas: Oh, yeah. Not soon enough for me, that's for sure.

Kate: I tell you what -- I have an idea. I'm going to take you home with me, and that way, you'll be properly cared for. What do you say?

Lucas: Actually, I'm gonna go home with Sami if that's all right with you. Thanks.

Kate: Sami. Sami's not even here, Lucas.

Lucas: I know, Mom. She's in ICU with her mom and John.

Kate: Ahh, I see. You know, crises and disasters, they happen to us. That's a part of life, you know? And we deal with them the best way we can, don't we? We get through it. Then when we do, we realize that the world isn't going to come to an end. And then sometimes we make the mistake of imagining that all is right with the world.

Lucas: I'm not imagining anything, all right? This is the truth. My world is going great. You should be happy about that.

Marlena: John, listen to this. Sami made headlines. I can't wait for you to see it. And this time, the headline's for a good reason. Yeah, I'm so proud of her. Rather than panicking and waiting for somebody else to jump in and save the moment, she stepped in, took action all by herself. She saved Lucas' life. Oh, there's our girl right now.

Sami: How's he doing?

Marlena: No change.

Marlena: Philip and Victor have taken temporary custody of Claire.

Sami: But, Mom, that's crazy.

Marlena: Yes, I agree, but the judge saw it differently. They've got 90 days to prove they're fit parents or they lose her entirely.

Sami: I have to call her.

Marlena: No, no, no, honey, don't. She's deeply upset. She sobbed herself to sleep. I want her to get some rest now.

Sami: Mom, this is awful.

Marlena: I know it is. When your kids are in pain and you can't help them -- that's why I stay here. You know, I just want to talk to John, tell him what's going on, wait for him to open those beautiful eyes of his and help me sort out a way to save our family.

Kate: Lucas, I'm sure you have every reason in the world to believe that your life is perfect right now.

Lucas: What, Sami saving my life and the three of us together? Yeah, I don't really see a downside to that, Mom.

Kate: Not yet.

Lucas: Enough with the "not yet," okay?

Kate: Do you really believe that Sami has changed?

Lucas: Yes, I do, and I don't appreciate you bad-mouthing her the way you do.

Kate: Lucas, you know very well that I am a self-made woman. I have money. I have power. I have success, and I have respect.

Kate: Well, for your information, Philip is back. And he has custody of Claire.

Lucas: What, you can help me leave Salem?

Sami: Hey, Mom, listen. This isn't over, you know? We are gonna help Belle and Shawn get Claire back. And John is going to wake up to you because he loves you too much to do anything else. And you know what? I'll bet you 5 bucks the first thing that he says to you will be, "hey, pretty lady."

Marlena: The doctors say that's not gonna happen.

Sami: Mom, listen to me. Doctors have been wrong before. They don't know everything.

Marlena: I realize that. They can't measure his heart. They can't measure his will to live.

Sami: I'll tell you one thing I know for sure -- John Black has the heart of a lion. He won't give up on you. You can't give up on him.

Philip: Close the door. I don't want the baby to get a cold. Let's get one thing straight, Mimi. If this is a social call, I'm happy to see you. But if you're here to lecture me and tell me what a monster I am, you can take off right now.

Kate: Okay. So, look, could we talk about this rescue?

Lucas: Sure.

Kate: So, what happened? This beam fell on your legs, right?

Kate: You were in shock. You were bleeding? You were in really bad pain?

Lucas: Yeah, I was. That's when I passed out.

Kate: So, you passed out, so you really don't have any idea what went on in the cabin, I mean, do you? 'Cause I just find it so hard to believe that a woman who weighs, I don't know, what, 100 pounds could lift up a beam that's at least twice, maybe three times her weight. How does that work?

Lucas: Adrenaline. You've heard the stories about old ladies lifting up cars like they're toys when people are trapped under them. It was adrenaline. It was a natural phenomenon.

Kate: Hmm...yeah. Adrenaline. So, where is this nature when Sami tried to lift that beam the first time but it wouldn't budge, while you were still awake? You saw that, and then she took off. She deserted you.

Lucas: She didn't desert me, all right? She went to get help. She couldn't find anybody, and that's when she came back.

Kate: Yeah, she came back. And by this time, you were unconscious, and that's when she was able to channel this nature, this strength, this adrenaline, and she lifts that beam off your legs. I mean, I just -- I don't know. I find that really hard to believe.

Lucas: Well, it's the truth. That's what happened. And you don't sound too grateful about it.

Kate: No, no. I'm telling you, I'm very grateful. I'm grateful. I just find it really impossible to believe that story.

Lucas: Well, I have no reason not to believe her.

Kate: What about logic, hmm? What about physics? What about the fact that it would be nearly impossible for a 100-pound woman to lift up a 600-pound beam? How does that happen, Lucas?

Lucas: I'm still alive, all right? I'm still alive. What's your point?

Kate: Very simple -- she had help.

Philip: If I'm this cold hearted SOB....I'm surprised the judge gave me temporary custody of Claire. Why don't you sit down?

Shawn D.: All you are is a whore who made a big score. Enjoy it while it lasts because when you run through Victor's money, you're gonna be exactly where you started -- nowhere.

Sami: Um... John, if you can hear me, I... I want you to know that I really treasure the love that you share with my mom. You're her world, and she's yours. And I think maybe that's part of the reason that I was so difficult to you -- because I wanted to be loved like that. But I was so busy being a brat that I never stopped to realize that I already was loved... by you. And you didn't just put up with me, either. You got me. You still do. And even when I would do stupid and immature things, when everyone else wanted to write me off, you always stood by me. John, you were as -- you were as much a father -- you were as much a father to me as my own dad. And I'm so -- I'm so sorry John. I love you, too. Mom, do you think he can hear me?

Marlena: He hears you. And I know he is so proud of the woman you are growing up to be, just like I am. You're such a great, great person, Sami.

Lucas: What the hell are you talking about? If Sami had help lifting that huge beam off me, who’s the person who held her? Why aren't they coming out of the woodwork to get some of the glory?

Kate: Maybe this person doesn't want publicity. Maybe this person doesn't want to be found by the police.

Lucas: By the police?

Kate: Mm-hmm.

Lucas: What, are you saying it's E.J.? If you think it's E.J., Mom, just come out and say it.

Kate: Well, that...

Lucas: No, no. Sami is the one who helped set him up. That's what we were doing out in the middle of nowhere to try to get away from that guy.

Kate: Yeah, but you didn't make it, did you? And the police did think that E.J. was around that cabin.

Lucas: So, Sami just happened to run into him, is that it?

Kate: Or planned to meet him there.

Lucas: Why?

Kate: Why else? To run off with him.

Lucas: Oh, I get it, except first she said, "hold on, E.J. wait, we can't run off together yet. First we have to save Lucas." And he said "Of course, my love. I'll do anything for you. I love Lucas. He's a great chap. I'll help save him." Bunch of BS. If he was there, Mom, he would have warmed his hands over my dead body.

Kate: Maybe he had a compelling reason to help.

Lucas: Well, I give up. You're on a roll. What?

Kate: Maybe it was the only way that Sami would help him escape.

Philip: Mimi -- Mimi, wait. I'm sorry things turned so ugly. Maybe my new face makes it easier to hate me.

Philip: All I've done is realize what's important in my life. And it took going through hell to get there.

Shawn D.: Victor and Philip have custody of her. And if you want the evidence, you can check in her top. You'll find the money there.

Willow: No.

Shawn D.: Go on and tell her.

Willow: I don't have to answer to you.

Maggie: No, but I am your boss, and you do have to answer to me.

Sami: Yeah, I'm real excited. I mean, obviously with John and now with Belle, too, I guess you wouldn't be able to come, but I wanted you to know about it.

Marlena: I wouldn't miss this for the world. Seeing my daughter declared a hero?

Sami: Thanks, Mom. I'm not really a hero, though, you know? I just did what I had to do for Lucas. I'm gonna go check on him. He's being released today.

Marlena: Oh, good.

Sami: Yeah. You're gonna be okay, right?

Marlena: Me? Of course. I'm gonna be fine. You go on. Go ahead.

Sami: Okay. Um, you know, will bought every copy of the newspaper in the gift store this morning. You don't by chance have any change, do you? I kind of want to get a copy for myself.

Marlena: Of course I do. I'm not sure what I've got, but you're welcome to all of it.

Lucas: You know what? I don't know whether to laugh or to hit you with one of my crutches right now. I'm sorry. I don't care what you think you know about Sami, but she hates E.J. It's outrageous to think that she'd help him escape.

Kate: To you, perhaps.

Lucas: This isn't about Sami, is it? It's about you hating Sami.

Kate: You know, Lucas, if you expect me to applaud her as a heroine, that is just never, ever gonna happen.

Lucas: Oh, what, you can't admit that you make a mistake sometimes? The great Roberts never makes a mistake. Well, I got news for you. Sound the alarm. You're wrong this time.

Kate: You are the one who's making the mistake here. Don't you understand that? And I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn't at least try to get you to listen.

Lucas: You really feel like you're helping your children. You're convinced you're doing the right thing, but you're not. Listen, I'm not Philip, all right? I didn't grow up rich. And I'm not Austin. You made it painfully clear that I can never compete with him.

Kate: That's not true.

Lucas: It is true, but it doesn't matter. The point is, I don't need my mother. I don't need my mother. They might, but I don't. So, the way I look at it, you got two choices. You either accept me and Sami, accept the fact that we're together, or you're out of my life and your grandson's for good.

Philip: You think I'm just like my father? Well, maybe it's that crash course in reality I took. Lesson one -- it's a cold, hard world out there. Fight to the death. Kill or be killed. Your friends lost in court. Lesson two -- get over it.

Kate: I don't really think we have to threaten each other, do we? I mean, I said my piece. You said your piece. You and will mean far, far too much to me to ever risk losing you. So, what do you say I promise just to never bring this up again?

Lucas: Thank you. I know this isn't easy for you.

Kate: No. But I do want you to be happy. And if it's with Sami, then so be it.

Sami: Hey, honey, so, I'm ready to -- oh.

Kate: Hi, Sami. Look, I... I wanted to tell you that I am grateful for what you did for my son. I guess I've finally realized that you would never hurt him. And you really have been a Godsend these past couple of days, so I'm sorry. I'm sorry for doubting you. Please, take good care of him.

Lucas: Can you believe it? I think I turned her around.

John, the doctors are saying that you'll do better in a different place that has 'round-the-clock care. I want you with me. I'm just not sure what to do about it. Kate: Philip?

Kate: I just don't understand why you're leaving the country and risking losing Claire when if you just wait three months, you're going to have permanent custody. You know that your father -- he arranged the whole thing, Philip.

Philip: I can't count on the judge staying bought.

Kate: Why Brussels? What are you going to do all by yourself with a baby?

Philip: Dad wants me to run the Titan office. I'll hire a nanny. It's all been arranged, Mom.

Kate: Oh, that's great. That's great. It sounds like you're never coming back.

Philip: I will when I'm sure no one can take my daughter away from me again.

Shawn D.: So, Philip's taking Claire and he's leaving Salem? Are you sure about this?
