[Loud music plays]
Della: Nick! Baby, I missed you so much. Give me a kiss, lover. Mmm.
Kayla: Who the hell are you?
Della: I'm his wife. Who the hell are you?
Kayla: I'm his wife. How could you be married to another woman and not tell me?
[Dance music plays]
Max: What are you doing? Who are these guys?
Chelsea: They're my friends. They're med students at the university, and we're having a great time.
Max: I'm not, and I want to talk to you. Let's go outside.
Chelsea: No, I'm not going anywhere.
Shawn D.: Everything is gonna be fine. It's all gonna work out.
Belle: I hope so. I hope you don't hate me.
Shawn D.: I could never hate you.
Belle: Philip almost died today because of me.
Shawn D.: Okay, and it was an accident.
Belle: He was really angry, and I don't blame him, you know? I keep going back and forth on "I'm committed to my marriage," "I'm not committed to my marriage." I just need to make up my mind 100%, once and for all, no going back. If this baby that I'm carrying -- if this isn't gonna bring us back together, then I just need to let it go once and for all.
Lucas: Thanks for being here to take care of my wife. I can see how upset she is about almost losing her husband today.
Carrie: I guess we better tell the contractor to cancel the plans for the nursery.
Lucas: I'm sorry.
Carrie: Why are you sorry? I told you I was pregnant. I told everyone when I wasn't 100% sure.
Lucas: Yeah, but I mean, the test was positive, right? It was like 99.9% sure.
Carrie: But... still, I... I wanted to have a baby so badly, I talked myself into having morning sickness. I feel like I must be crazy.
Lucas: Stop, all right? You're not crazy. That could have happened to anybody.
Carrie: And because of this baby we're not even having, I rushed our wedding.
Lucas: You know, baby or no baby, I'm just glad we got married.
Carrie: When that baby book was destroyed in the fire, looking at those blank pages -- they're always gonna be blank. I am never gonna be pregnant, Lucas.
Lucas: Don't say that. Come on. You heard Lexie. She said there might be a chance.
Carrie: Less than 1%. Lucas, if you don't want to stay together...
Lucas: What?
Carrie: I know how bad you wanted to have a younger brother or sister for Will, and you married me thinking that we were gonna have a baby in a few months.
Lucas: No, I married you because I love you.
Carrie: I feel so ridiculous. I'm mourning a baby that never existed and a future baby I'll probably never have and...
Lucas: What? And what?
Carrie: I don't know.
Lucas: Look, Carrie, I got to ask you this. Now that you're not pregnant with our baby, what are you saying? Are you saying you regret marrying me?
E.J.: Mmm. Austin, that was absolutely fabulous. Thank you. It's not every evening one gets to enjoy a wonderful meal and witness such a beautiful engagement. Let me tell you, when it's my turn, I'm certainly gonna know how to do it just right.
Sami: I can't stop staring at my ring.
E.J.: Yes, you can practically see your reflection in that one.
Sami: Austin, I still don't think you should have gotten me something so expensive.
Austin: It's got to last a lifetime. I'm glad you like it.
Sami: I love it.
Austin: I think we need some more "cham-pon-ya."
E.J.: "Cham-pon-ya."
Austin: "Cham-pon-ya."
E.J.: Yeah.
Austin: Aha. [Cork pops]
E.J.: Oh!
Austin: Whoo! Wow. Ooh! Here you go.
E.J.: Look at that.
Austin: [Laughs] Sami, will you put your ring on?
Sami: Look, Austin, the truth is -- the truth is I don't deserve it.
Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives.
Carrie: No, I don't regret getting married to you. I'm not having your baby, but we are married, and I love you. Why would you even ask me that?
Lucas: I don't know. You just -- you seem a little --
Carrie: Sad. I am sad, but it has nothing to do with you. You are wonderful, and I'm so lucky to be your wife.
Lucas: No, I'm the lucky one. You could never disappoint me.
Carrie: You know what? Let's go up on the roof and celebrate with Austin and Sami, get our minds off everything.
Lucas: Do what? You just -- I thought you --
Carrie: I know. I know. I changed my mind.
Lucas: Carrie, wait a minute. Are you sure?
Carrie: Well, it's going to be difficult to tell people, but let's get it over with.
Lucas: All right, yeah, fine. It's up to you.
Carrie: Yeah, and Austin said that he had a big surprise for Sami, and I feel like he really wanted us to be there. And you know, I think it's really important that they know that they have our support.
Lucas: That's why I love you so much.
Austin: I told you not to sweat the cost.
Sami: No, Austin, it's not about the price of the ring this time.
Austin: Then why don't you think you deserve it?
Sami: I don't think I should wear your ring until I tell you...
Austin: Tell me what?
Sami: Tell you that... [Sighs] I can't tell you how much it means to me, how lucky I feel to have you in my life, Austin. [Sighs] Sometimes -- a lot of the time, I don't feel like I deserve to be happy. And I am so lucky that you believe in me, and I want you to know that I am trying so hard to be worthy of your love.
Austin: So am I.
Sami: What are you talking about, Austin? You are perfect.
Austin: No, no, I am so far from perfect. I don't ever want to hurt you, Samantha.
Sami: You won’t. You couldn’t. I don't want to hurt you, Austin.
Austin: I love you. This is your ring. And I want you to wear it always.
Sami: I love you.
Austin: Oh, I'm so forgetful. Maggie gave me some dessert wine. It's supposed to be amazing. I'll be right back. Be right back. Excuse me.
E.J.: It's time, Samantha. You need to tell Austin the truth. You can't keep stalling.
Sami: I know.
E.J.: And you need to tell him before he finds out from whoever is writing these notes.
Sami: Okay, okay, you've told me a million times. I know. I can't seem to get the words out because I keep thinking about what he'll do when he finds out what I did to keep him and Carrie apart. He'll never forgive me, E.J. He'll take this beautiful ring back, and --
E.J.: Samantha, it's not about a ring.
Sami: I know it's not. It's about my life. It is about my entire future.
Austin: Look who I found, huh? We were starting to get worried.
Carrie: Sorry we're late. Hi, E.J.
E.J.: Carrie, Lucas.
Lucas: My apologies. Sorry we missed dinner.
Austin: But you are gonna love this wine. All right, here. Here.
Sami: Thank you.
Austin: I'll get you two some sparkling water.
Lucas: Thank you, sir.
Austin: You missed the -- well, the main event.
Lucas: There was a main event? What kind of event?
Austin: I finally gave Sami an engagement ring.
Sami: [Exhales sharply]
Carrie: Wow. Congratulations! Can I see it?
Sami: Yeah, of course.
Lucas: That is really amazing. Congratulations, bro. I'm very happy for you.
Austin: Thank you.
Carrie: Absolutely beautiful.
Sami: Thank you.
Carrie: I'm gonna congratulate Austin.
Lucas: Please. Thanks. That's -- that's a lot nicer than the one I got you. Man.
Sami: Well, I wouldn't have said that out loud, but I guess it's true.
Lucas: So, what's going on with you?
Sami: What do you mean?
Lucas: Aren't you happy? It's supposed to be the happiest moment of your life. You don't seem thrilled.
Sami: Why do you say that? You think I'm still supposed to be in love with you?
Lucas: No, that's not why I said that. You just seem a little nervous.
Sami: I'm not nervous, Lucas. I'm shocked. I'm overwhelmed.
Lucas: I know you. I know your whole schtick. Something's going on.
Carrie: Lucas, please.
Austin: Here you go. Here you go.
Lucas: You're right. I'll back off. I'm sorry. I'm trying to be supportive.
Carrie: It's Austin and Sami's special night.
Lucas: You're right. You're right. I'll be good, just for you.
Austin: Everything's okay, right?
Sami: Yeah.
Austin: I mean, I didn't think that you'd be gone so long at the hospital.
Kayla: What's going on here, Steve?
Della: Steve?
Kayla: Are you married to her?
Steve: No, listen, this is Della. Della, meet Kayla. She's not my wife. I'm not married to her.
Della: We may not have tied the knot, not officially, but we have an arrangement here. Who is this chick? Why is she calling you Steve, and why does she think she's your wife?
Steve: Della, listen. You know how I never had any memories of my past?
Della: Uh-huh.
Steve: Right, well, you know, it turns out I'm not Nick. I'm this dude Steve Johnson. I got a wife and a kid. I got a town full of people who know me who thought I was dead.
Della: Oh, little miss perfect, your wife, and you had a kid with her. Don't tell me -- he even changed diapers. I don't think so. Not the Nick we all know and love. I mean, I'm sorry you lost your husband, but just because my man looks like a dead guy --
Steve: It's true. I took a DNA test. I am the guy. I'm Steve Johnson.
Kayla: And if you're as close as you say you are, why didn't you know all that? Where did you think he was?
Della: Look, you don't know nothing about us. You don't know anything, so stay the hell out of it.
Steve: Cut it out, Della. Hey.
Della: You could have at least called me, Nick. I was worried about you. So, you've been with family all this time?
Steve: Yeah, that's right. And right now, all I'm trying to do is figure out what happened to me.
Della: Forget about that, baby. That was a past life. This is your life now. Come on. Let's have a beer and catch up. I missed you, baby.
Steve: All right, listen -- listen, Della. Here's what I got to do -- just give me a minute. I got to talk to Kayla.
Della: Make it fast, okay?
Steve: Kayla, can you come over here and sit down with me? [Sighs] I'm really sorry about this.
Kayla: When were you gonna tell me?
Steve: You knew I had another life, you know? You never asked me any questions about it, so I didn't offer.
Kayla: I was afraid to.
Steve: I'm an idiot. I should have found a way to mention it to you.
Kayla: I just don't get it. We've been talking about trying to get our old life back and you have this other woman? You don't tell her about Jack. You don't tell her about the DNA test or going back to Salem. How serious is it? Do you love her?
Max: What the hell is going on with you, Chelsea, huh?
Chelsea: What do you expect? You were so busy with Stephanie, salvaging what was left of your car at the garage. What was I supposed to do -- go home and read auto mechanic? Forget it. I just want to have fun, all right?
Max: Chelsea, you promised me that you weren't gonna do this anymore -- no more drinking, no more partying, no more dancing with strangers.
Chelsea: They are not strangers. They are my friends, just like you and Stephanie are friends.
Max: You never change! Forget it.
Abby: That went well.
Chelsea: He'll be back. Don't worry.
Belle: Listen, Philip, please. I'm a horrible mess. I almost lost my husband today.
Philip: I try to tell myself to stay calm, find some way to be supportive, and then I get out of my hospital bed, I walk out here, and I find you in his arms. Now, I want to get through this, but you've got to help me. What the hell are you doing?
Shawn D.: Hey. I'm glad you're here. The four of us should talk about what we're gonna do.
Belle: I don't think Philip is up to it so soon after his accident.
Philip: I'm fine. We all need to say what's on our mind.
Shawn D.: So, I'm sure we've all talked to our lawyers about custody and visitation. The good thing is we live right across the hall from each other, so it'll be very convenient.
Philip: Maybe a little too convenient.
Shawn D.: We are all gonna be part of each other's lives, like it or not.. And if you remember, we used to be friends.
Belle: We're family.
Mimi: Which is why we all need to be honest about everything before we make any decisions about what to do. There's something that you all need to know.
Mimi: There's something that I know that's going to change everything. Um... I've been keeping it a secret because I've just been so scared of losing you, Shawn. But you need to know. You have a right to know. You're Claire's biological father.
Philip: What are you talking about?
Belle: Wait, Shawn and I have never been together, Mimi, so what are you talking about?
Mimi: That night in the barn when it caught on fire and the two of you had hypothermia, you dreamed that you had sex with Shawn. It wasn't a dream.
Philip: How would you even know that?
Mimi: Well, it's all going to start to make sense now. When Claire was sick and she needed a blood transfusion, Shawn's blood was a match and yours wasn't, Philip.
Shawn D.: Honey... just take a minute here, all right? Just because our blood matched doesn't mean that Claire's my daughter.
Mimi: I know that, but I also overheard two nurses talking about your and Philip's blood tests. And they basically said that there was no way Philip could be Claire's father.
Shawn D.: When Claire was sick?
Belle: So you've known about this? What kind of best friend are you?
Shawn D.: How many times did I tell you to trust in me and trust in our love? And I trusted you.
Mimi: Well, that's why I had to tell you. I'm sorry, Shawn. Hopefully one day you can forgive me.
Shawn D.: No, we got married under false pretenses. I want an annulment.
Mimi: No, Shawn, please.
Shawn D.: Philip -- Philip, I have respected you, your marriage, and your family with Claire. But Claire is my daughter, and Belle and I are having another child together. This mix-up with the fertility clinic -- it's like it was fate because everything's turning out the way it was meant to 'cause Belle and I still love each other. We're gonna finally be a family together.
Philip: If I'm gonna lose Belle and Claire, there's no way I'm losing my new baby. When that surrogate gives birth, I am suing for full custody. You're never gonna see your kid again for the rest of your pathetic little life.
Shawn D.: Mimi, are you okay?
Mimi: Yeah. Yeah, I was just thinking about what I was gonna say and how I was gonna say it. Um...I know the four of us have a very complicated history. And this is especially hard for Philip and me. Philip, I, uh... I know that we both hate what is going on right now, but fighting and stuff is just not going to solve anything. We have to get through this together, the four of us.
Shawn D.: Yeah, you're right. Philip, you're a great dad. And I think you're gonna be a great father to this new child. I don't care about biology. You are the father. And, yeah, I'm gonna want to be a part of this child's life. And together with Claire, these children are gonna have four parents. And you know what? I say that, that's a good thing, and they're lucky. 'Cause we all go back a long way. And I hope that we're gonna be friends for life. And I hope our kids are gonna be friends for life. And it's up to us to be role models for them, show them what friendship means and what family means and what love means. I really believe that we can do this, but we have to be in it together. So... so, what do you say?
Lucas: Uh, actually --
Carrie: Everything is fine.
Austin: Great. Great, well, then let's make a toast. To Carrie and Lucas and the baby they're expecting.
Sami: Cheers.
E.J.: Cheers. Absolutely.
Sami: Carrie, you look fabulous.
Carrie: Thank you.
Austin: Mmm. Excuse me. Let me get you guys some food.
Carrie: Okay, that sounds great. Thank you.
Lucas: So, are you gonna tell them that you weren't pregnant?
Carrie: I'll tell them later. I didn't want to ruin Sami and Austin's party. You know, he went to a lot of trouble to make it a special night for her, so...
Lucas: I understand. That's what makes you so special. That's why I love you so much.
Carrie: Stop it, Lucas.
Lucas: What? I do. I do love you. And I know you're disappointed because we couldn't start our own family, but we kind of have that, you know? We have that now. There's me and Will. We can always talk about adopting, too.
Carrie: I just know how excited you were that you were gonna get to be a father from the beginning this time. I mean, you missed out on all that stuff with Will.
Lucas: I'm not missing out on anything. I wouldn't trade places with anybody ever.
Austin: Here you go.
Carrie: Thank you. That looks great.
Lucas: Spaghetti to go around, huh?
Austin: I'd like to make another toast. To Sami... our future marriage, and to us one day having a baby like Lucas and Carrie.
E.J.: Here's to that. Now would be a good time.
Sami: If I could have everyone's attention... [Clears throat] I have something I want to say to you all. It's something that I think could change all of our lives forever.
Steve: Kayla, listen, if you think I've been living like a monk all these years --
Kayla: No, of course not.
Steve: I mean, I've been with a few -- well, several women over the years.
Kayla: I don't need details, really. I'm just asking about Della.
Steve: Della and I -- we've been on again, off again for quite a while now.
Kayla: She said she was your wife.
Steve: You know what I think, Kayla? I think that the life I've been living is nothing like what you're used to.
Kayla: I don't know what you mean.
Steve: I mean everything -- Della, this place. I saw the look on your face when we walked into this joint.
Kayla: You don't understand. The Steve Johnson that I fell in love with a long time ago is not that different from Nick Stockton.
Steve: How's that?
Kayla: You had a favorite dive just like this. It was called the cheating heart. And we used to go there together all the time.
Steve: Well, looks like I've just reverted to my old ways. Everyone eventually finds their own level. I guess I found mine the first time I looked in the mirror. Saw the tattoos, scars, one eye. But the bottom line is I'm not the right kind of guy for you.
Kayla: Don't say that. Don't even think it. You said that you would fight for us. You said --
Steve: Listen, being back here has just made me realize that this is the kind of place a guy like me needs to be.
Kayla: No, you need to be with me, your wife.
Steve: Until I can remember you, you're just my wife on paper.
Kayla: On paper.
Steve: I'm sorry, Kayla. I think you're beautiful. You're a good person. But until I can remember you -- and that may never happen -- I can't be in your life as a husband.
Kayla: But on that airplane, all you talked about was finding clues to figure out how you got here and why. You never even mentioned this place until we were almost here. You certainly didn't mention Della until her arms were wrapped around your neck and she was kissing you. Were you just playing me? Was this just some way for you to get back home?
Steve: No, I swear, it wasn’t.
Kayla: I mean, did you just come back to Salem and hang out with me and Stephanie and sort of, you know, weigh out your options and decide that your family just wasn't interesting enough for you?
Steve: No! That's not right. But the truth is, Kayla, even though we share a daughter, I don't feel the same connection to you that you feel toward me.
Kayla: I see.
Steve: I know that's not what you want to hear. I'm sorry. Please try to understand.
Stephanie: Max, wait. Where are you going?
Max: I don't know. The hell away from here. What does she want from me? My car got wrecked. I had to fix it. I have a lot on my mind. And what does she do? She goes out and she finds someone else. She even knew I was on my way here. I'm just so sick of her games.
Stephanie: Chelsea just doesn't get what it's like for us. People who aren't into racing don't understand how focused and devoted we have to be.
Max: No, but it's more than that with Chelsea. I don't even think this relationship is going anywhere. You know this is new for me? I have never wanted a serious relationship before. I just don't think that it should have to be this hard.
Stephanie: Face it, Max. Maybe you just weren't meant to be with Chelsea..
Chelsea: Hey, why don't you go ask one of those hot guys to dance with you?
Abby: I'm seeing Josh, remember? One guy's plenty for me.
Chelsea: Okay, whatever.
Abby: You know what I think?
Chelsea: What?
Abby: I think you're afraid that Max is caring about you too much.
Chelsea: What?
Abby: Every time someone gets close to you, you do something crazy and push them away. You are your own worst enemy. You know who you remind me of? Your cousin Sami.
Sami: Now that Carrie and Lucas are happily married with a baby on the way, I want the best for both of you. And of course I want the best for you, too, Austin. But before we can live happily ever after, um... I have to apologize for -- for what I have done.
Sami: I know I have hurt you all in the past. I have -- I have done some terrible things. And, oh, Austin, I can't help but think of the first time. Things are so different now. And everything that happened with Will, Lucas. And everything that happened with Carrie and Austin and all the weddings. Oh, God, I guess I could just go on and on. We could be here all night.
Lucas: Yeah, we all know what you've done, Sami. We've forgotten about it. We were hoping you would, too.
Sami: I can't forget. And I can't believe that you have, either -- any of you. But I'm lucky because you all have forgiven me. And I want to thank you all for that.
Carrie: Sami, you don't need to do this.
Sami: Actually, I do. Austin, you are such an amazing person. And loving you has made me a better person. I want you to be proud of me. I want to be proud of me.
Austin: I am proud of you.
Sami: I want to be a good role model to Carrie and Lucas' baby. Carrie, I -- I am so excited for you. I know how long you have waited to have a child of your own. And you are gonna be such a great mom. I just know it.
Carrie: Excuse me.
Lucas: Excuse me.
Sami: Was it something I said?
Philip: [Sighs]
Shawn D.: Philip, I know this is hard.
Philip: Yeah.
Shawn D.: But Belle and I have told you, she is not gonna leave you, and I am fully committed to my marriage. Mimi has never done anything to shake my faith in her. She has always been honest, faithful, and true in our relationship. And Belle has done the same with you since the moment you two have exchanged vows. She stood by you in some very tough times. She's always been there for you. Don't turn your back on her. Don't push your family away now.
Chelsea: I am never gonna be like my cousin Sami. She's a loser when it comes to guys. I hear that she has so many wedding dresses in her closet that she could open up her own bridal shop. I'm never gonna be like that.
Abby: Especially if nobody ever asks you.
Chelsea: Thanks, Abby. That's really nice of you. Look, I'm not even anywhere near being ready to settle down, so it doesn't make a difference. And I do know how to handle men. I will be with Max. And no matter what, I'm not gonna let him end up with that bitch Stephanie.
Max: I don't know. Maybe you're right. Maybe people like us aren't cut out for long-term relationships.
Stephanie: What's that supposed to mean?
Max: I meant racers. Risking our lives every day -- maybe we just don't want to settle down.
Stephanie: No, you know what? I don't buy that. I mean, I love my job. It's more than just a job, but it's not all there is to life. I was actually just talking to my parents about this. I take after my dad. He was a lot like us when he was younger -- you know, all about thrill and danger. And he settled down, married my mom, and they were totally in love. That's what I want.
Max: You really think that can happen to you, huh?
Stephanie: I know it can.
Kayla: I know when you first came back to Salem, you didn't want to stay.. But I thought after each passing day that you were more and more convinced you wanted to be there. I think that you knew that's where your heart was. And I think deep down you know that's true.
Della: Sweetie, you want to dance?
Kayla: [Scoffs]
Steve: Are you serious? No, not right now.
Della: Well, suit yourself. Just one question to help you sort this all through.
Steve: What?
Della: Do you remember making love to this woman? I didn't think so. But you remember us making love. This is your life, Nick. Right here with me -- this is where you belong. You're a good guy, a great lover, and I'm not giving up on you. And I know you're not giving up on me either. I'll wait for you over by the bar.
************************************************************
Kayla: That was nice.
Steve: I'm sorry, Kayla. I never should have brought you here.
Kayla: Don't you want to remember your past with me?
Steve: I don't know.
Kayla: You don't know?
Steve: I just don't know if I'm any good for you. I could even be dangerous. What if the DiMera’s come after you and Stephanie because of me?
Kayla: Listen to you. You're sounding like a family man, but you're trying to protect me for all the wrong reasons. It was hard enough for me to live without you when I thought that you were dead. But to live without you knowing that you're alive and with someone else? I don't think I can do that.
Steve: But if I can't remember you as my wife, how can I be your husband?
Guy: Hey! Hi!
Max: I really hope you find your true love, like your parents did. Someday I know you will.
Stephanie: I thought you just said nobody understands people like us, that we weren't meant to have long relationships.
Max: No, I mean, you need a guy who's confident in himself, one who understands and appreciates a woman with skill and guts and courage and intelligence and one who appreciates their beauty and one who's ready for a long-term relationship. I mean, he's out there.
Stephanie: Thanks, Max. Maybe one day I'll find all that in a man.
Max: Well, I'm afraid I'm not gonna have that kind of relationship with Chelsea.
Abby: Chelsea, how many times do I have to tell you? If you keep on pushing Max away, you're gonna lose him.
Chelsea: It hasn't happened yet.
Abby: You're never gonna learn until you get burned.
Chelsea: That rhymed. Come on, let's go party.
Philip: I know my family needs me. I will never abandon them. I love you.. I love Claire. I don't want to lose you.
Belle: I love you, too. I was so afraid I was gonna lose you today.
Philip: We're gonna get through this, okay? [Sighs]
Shawn D.: Everything's gonna work out. As long as we're honest and we keep communicating with each other, everything's gonna be fine.
Austin: I'm gonna check and see if she's okay. I'll be right back.
Sami: I know what you're gonna say.
E.J.: No, you don’t. That was quite a little speech. That was quite a litany of crimes you're alluding to. And your friends, they've forgiven you for all this?
Sami: Mostly.
E.J.: And this secret of yours -- this is the worst thing you've ever done?
Sami: Eh, well, I guess that's debatable.
E.J.: Bloody hell. You need to tell Austin the truth right now.
Lucas: Honey, please stop it. Carrie, I know you're upset that you're not pregnant, we're not having a baby, but, honey, there's a baby out there somewhere waiting --
Carrie: Stop it, Lucas! No! I can’t. I made a huge mistake.
Max: Who would do something like this?
Stephanie: You have to ask?
Max: Stephanie, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Steve: I don't want to hurt you any more than I already have. It's time for us to say good-bye.
E.J.: Your future lies in your hands. You need to make a choice.
Carrie: I only married you because I thought I was pregnant.
