Frankie: Not your fault, Jen, okay? It was my fault.

Jennifer: I didn't know you were standing there.

Frankie: I'm sorry. I just -- I wanted to make sure you were all right.

Jennifer: No, I'm not all right. And I can't even imagine what you must think of me right now.

Frankie: Don't do that. You're vulnerable -- extremely vulnerable, and I should have never put you in such an awkward position. I shouldn't have let you help me with my shower.

Jennifer: You needed help. My goodness, after all the help that you have given me lately, and Jack --

Frankie: I think, really, it would be best if I went back to D.C. I've imposed on you way too long.

Jennifer: No, Frankie, you can't go. Please, what happened in that shower was not your fault. It was mine. If anyone is to blame, it's me.

Marlena: Oh! Gee...

John: I was looking for you. Where you been?

Marlena: I was looking for Alex.

John: Oh, for God's sakes. Come on, Marlena, the man was trying to break into your house. He had a gun in --

Marlena: Oh, I know all that.

John: Okay, then.

Marlena: There's something that doesn't make sense to me. I know that Alex would never, ever hurt me. So there's something we're missing -- something that's going on we don't know about.

Officer Daniels: What a way to start out, huh? First week on the force, two rookies fresh out of the academy, and we get to tell Detective Brady -- Commander Roman Brady's brother -- that it was his own car that hit his little boy.

Officer Hammond: It's not gonna be easy.

Officer Daniels: We have to do it. We don't have a choice.

Hope: [Sobbing]

Lexie: I did everything I could, but his injuries were just too severe. The blunt trauma to his head had caused...

Bo: Lexie, Lexie... Lexie, just say it.

Lexie: I'm so sorry, but we've lost him.

Hope: No, no, no, no!! Bo, no, no!! [Sobbing] My baby!

[Sobbing continues]

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives.

Shawn D.: How could you do this?! You don't care about anyone, do you?

Mimi: Shawn...

Shawn D.: We prayed to you to save my little brother. We prayed to you, and you can do whatever you want. You are all-powerful and almighty. That's what they teach us. So what kind of God are you to do this to my mother and father -- to do this to people who believe in you?!

Mimi: Shawn, no! Shawn. Shawn.

Hope: [Sobbing] This can't be happening.

Bo: Shh...

Hope: I want to see him. I want to see my son.

Bo: Where is he, Lexie? Where is he?

Lexie: He's being transferred from the O.R. I'll take you in as soon as we situate it.

Bo: Okay. Thank you.

Hope: I want to know who did this. I want you to find out who murdered our son!

[Sobbing continues]

Abe: Believe me, we're gonna find out who did this. And we're gonna make them pay.

Bo: Abe...

Abe: Buddy, I'm so sorry, man. I'm so sorry. There just aren't words.

Celeste: Darling, darling, are you all right?

Lexie: [Sniffling] I lost him. I lost him, mom. I tried to save him, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t.

Celeste: Oh, darling.

Chelsea: Oh, God. [Sniffling] This is so wrong, Max. My whole life, I wanted a little brother. And I finally got one. Zach was the best, you know? He always made me feel like I was actually his big sister... even though he hardly knew me, and he always made me feel like I was really part of the family.

Max: Hey, you are part of the family, Chelsea.

Chelsea: Do you remember Christmas Eve? How cute was he? I was so sad missing my parents, and he knew exactly what to say to me. A little kid like that -- I'll never forget it.

Zach: Don't worry, Chelsea. You're my big sister now, and I love you.

Chelsea: How can he be gone now? How? Why does everybody I ever care about just disappear?

Max: Hey, look, I'm still here. I'm not going anywhere. Whoever killed Zach, okay, they're gonna find him and they're gonna punish him, because they won't get away with this.

Officer Hammond: Looks like the charge just went from hit-and-run to murder.

Maggie: [Sobbing] Where is Alice? How's she taking it? Is she all right?

Julie: Doug took her to Lexie's office to lie down. You know how strong she always is.

Maggie: Yeah.

Julie: I think this may be just too much for her.

Maggie: I know how she feels. Mickey and I -- we just adored that little boy.

Mickey: We jumped at every chance to babysit.

Julie: Doug and I did, too.

Maggie: He always had that sweet little smile on his face. And he never gave us not a moment of trouble.

Julie: He was no trouble.

Maggie: No.

Julie: He was mischievous, though. I remember one time he started a food fight.

Julie: Darling, the water for the tea is on the stove.

Doug: Got it.

Julie: I wonder what they ordered for us.

Doug: It all smells so good.

Julie: Yeah.

Doug: So do you. Give me a kiss.

[Teapot whistling]

Julie: Hold that thought.

Doug: Okay, I will pour the tea.

Julie: Sweetie pie, we have noodles for you. Mmm... don't those look good? Go on, dig in. I know you like them. Thank you, darling. Well... now that Zach is engrossed in the noodles... how about that kiss?

Doug: You know, sitting here in my tuxedo with my gorgeous wife and my adorable grandson, I mean, this is it. Aren't you glad that we never ended up at the Penthouse Grill?

Julie: Shut up and kiss me.

Zach: [Laughs]

Julie: Oh!

Doug: Oh!

Julie: Zach, darling, it is not polite to throw food. Whoever taught you to throw food? Food fight! Food fight! Whoo-hoo!

Julie: Everything was such a mess. Doug and I never laughed so hard in.... excuse me, Maggie, I want to see how Doug is doing.

Maggie: Sure.

Lexie: I just keep wondering if there was something else -- if there was something more that I could have done.

Abe: Sweetheart... sweetheart, you can't blame yourself. Zach was so lucky to have been in your hands. You did everything you could.

Lexie: But it wasn't enough, Abe. It wasn't enough.

Nurse: Excuse me, Dr. Carver? There were no rooms upstairs. The patient's gonna be moved to cubicle one.

Lexie: Thank you. I have to go and tell Bo and Hope. They want to see him.

Abe: It's gonna be all right. It'll be all right.

Lexie: Yeah.

Celeste: Poor Alexandra. I fear losing Isaac will haunt her for the rest of her life.

Lexie: Zach is in cubicle one. I can take you in now.

Bo: You sure you want to do this?

Hope: Yes. I have to see my baby.

Bo: Okay. Let's go.

Hope: Zach... baby, it's mommy. Mommy's here, baby. I love you. I love you so much. I love you so much. You'll always be my little boy. My sweet little boy. Best little boy in the world. Oh, Zach... my God. Oh, my God, he's alive. Zach's alive.

Frankie: Hello. Can I come in?

Jennifer: Yeah.

Frankie: I just wanted to say, Jennifer... you didn't do anything wrong. It was all my fault.

Jennifer: I'm not really sure how you can say that. You wanted to take a shower. You needed help. I don't know what came over me in the shower.

Frankie: You want to know the truth? What happened -- I felt it. I wanted to kiss you. But... but I promised you -- and I mean it -- that I am here as your friend, and that's it, okay?

Jennifer: I've ruined everything, haven't I?

Marlena: John...

John: Mm-hmm?

Marlena: I don't want to talk about Alex or Lois. I am very concerned right now about our daughter.

John: [Sighs]

Marlena: I saw Belle earlier, and she is not anywhere near prepared for what could happen.

John: No, she's not.

Marlena: I tried to comfort her. I'm not the mother she remembers. I'm not the mother she needs. I just want so much to help her.

John: You're helping her. She understands what's going on. She knows you're doing the best you can. Look, I'm gonna go check on Belle and the baby. Why don't you get some rest in your office here? I'll let you know as soon as there's any news.

Marlena: In my office?

John: It's where you had your practice. It's still waiting for you when you come back.

Marlena: So this is where I worked.

John: Yep. Take a look around -- it might trigger something.

Marlena: Of course.

John: I'll be back soon. Try to get some rest.

Shawn D.: [Sniffling] I just -- I just keep thinking that there was so much that I was supposed to do with my little brother. There was so much that I was supposed to teach him -- stupid things like how to throw a curve ball, you know, and go skateboarding with him and take him on fishing trips. I was supposed to show him how to play hockey. He was the one that was supposed to have my comic-book collection, but instead, because of some coward, some coward that just left him on the road to die... whoever this guy or girl is -- I don't even know. I don't even know.

Mimi: Shawn, calm down, okay? Just give it time. They will catch this person and put them in jail.

Shawn D.: No, whoever it is, they deserve a lot more than just jail time, okay? I am gonna get my hands on them. And I swear, they are dead. I swear.

Chelsea: I don't even know what to tell my dad.

Max: Hey, you don't have to say anything to him. Just you being here means a lot to him -- showing him that you care.

Chelsea: And Hope -- I mean, how am I supposed to tell her that I'm sorry for her loss? She already hates me.

Max: You know that's not true, all right. She invited you over for dinner. She included you in the holidays. She wants you to be a part of the family, Chelsea.

Chelsea: She only made the effort for Bo's sake. Trust me, I'm still not her favorite person. I don't know. I feel like, maybe right now, I should just give her some space or something.

Max: Yeah, maybe. I don't know.

Chelsea: Oh, my God -- Billie. I should call and tell her. She's been out of town on business for Countess Wilhelmina, and she doesn't know anything that's going on. I think she has a right to know.

Max: I think she'd appreciate the call.

Man: It's Carver.

Abe: Thank you.

Celeste: Here they are, darling.

Abe: Oh, thank you, Celeste. Excuse me, gentlemen. My name's Abe Carver. I was the former Commander of the Salem Police Department. As you may be aware, I've lost the use of my eyes, so if you wouldn't mind introducing yourselves...

Officer Hammond: Of course not, sir. I'm Officer Hammond. This is my partner, Officer Daniels.

Officer Daniels: It's an honor, sir.

Officer Hammond: We're both rookies in the department, but we've heard a lot about you.

Abe: I assume you're here for the hit-and-run. And I was wondering if you have any leads.

Officer Daniels: Actually, sir, yes, we do. And it won't be long before we'll be making an arrest.

Officer Hammond: Only... now the charge will be murder.

Victor: Caroline, you all right? Where's Shawn?

Caroline: Oh, my Shawn? He's, uh, he's waiting with Alice. I told him I was fine.

Victor: But you're not fine. I can see that.

Caroline: Well, it's just overwhelming. I mean, Claire -- I see you fighting for her life. Our little Zach... Victor... our little Zach.

Hope: Bo, he's still alive. He's still breathing.

Bo: Lexie...

Lexie: Technically, he's breathing, but not on his own. He's on life support.

Bo: How long can he stay like this?

Lexie: As his parents, it's up to you.

Frankie: You haven't ruined anything. What happened didn't mean anything, Jen. It was just...an extremely awkward moment, to say the least. And let's face it -- neither one of us are quite ourselves at the moment. But...the one thing we are and always will be is friends. I will always be your friend -- always. That hasn't changed. Nothing's changed.

Jennifer: God...I hope not.

Frankie: I promise.

Jennifer: So, then, you're gonna stay, and we're okay?

Frankie: Of course we're okay. You sure you want me to stay?

Jennifer: Yeah, yeah, I want you to stay. You can't go anywhere with that huge cast on your leg. But, you know, from now on, showers -- you are on your own. I -- really.

Frankie: Deal. Deal.

[Telephone rings]

Jennifer: Excuse me. Hello?

Maggie: Hi, Jennifer, it's aunt Maggie. Um, I'm really sorry to bother you.

Jennifer: No, you're not bothering me at all, but you sound upset. What's going on?

Maggie: I am. Um, Zach was in an accident, and the family is all here at the trauma center.

Jennifer: Wait a minute. What kind of accident? Is Zach gonna be okay?

Maggie: Um, I think Hope is going to need you, honey. You should get here just as soon as you can, okay?

Jennifer: I'll be right there. Tell Hope I'm on my way, okay? Listen, Zach was in some kind of accident, and I need to get to the hospital. Can you stay here and keep an eye on Jack Jr.?

Frankie: Go, go, go. Don't worry about J.J.

Jennifer: You're sure?

Frankie: Absolutely. Just keep me posted, will you?

Jennifer: I will. Frankie, thank you so much. I don't know what I would do without you.

Marlena: Oh! Oh...

Lois: [Thinking] Poor Marlena. You were right to defend Alex. He was only trying to protect you. But, unfortunately, he can't help you anymore. No one can.

John: Hey, Dr. Banks... what are you doing? own little private area.

Mimi: Come here. Shawn, listen to me. I know that you are beyond angry and you have every right to be, but obsessing on revenge won't help. It won't solve anything, and it won't bring your brother back. It will just rip you apart inside even more.

Shawn D.: I don't care. I don't care, because it's how I feel. I have to make it my life's mission to catch this maniac, 'cause what if the police don't? And after he's caught, if justice isn't done, I'll take care of that, too.

Mimi: You're serious about this. You're gonna take the law into your own hands. You would what -- what would you do? Would you kill this person?

Shawn D.: Damn right I would, in a heartbeat.

Mimi: Shawn, that is crazy. You can't do that, and you know it.

Shawn D.: There was someone who was behind the wheel who shouldn't have been, and because of that, now my brother is dead. My family will never be the same. And my parents -- my parents will never be the same.

Mimi: Shawn, I know. I am not trying to defend the driver, okay? All I'm saying is, what if it was an accident? Accidents do happen. What if this person doesn't even know they hit Zach?

Shawn D.: How could you not know? And it doesn't matter. Somebody took someone's life, and now I'm gonna take theirs in return.

Mickey: You will do nothing of the sort, Shawn Douglas Brady. I know that you are filled with a lot of anger inside. We all are. But you've got to get ahold of yourself, young man. You better just stop for a minute and think about little Zach.

Shawn D.: I am thinking about Zach!

Mickey: No, you aren't! You're thinking about yourself. And I don't think that Zach would approve of that behavior. He was a little boy, but his parents did not teach him hate. They taught him love and forgiveness.

Shawn D.: No. How can I forgive, uncle Mickey? Somebody killed Zach, and now they have to pay.

Mickey: And they will. There's a system in place that will deal with them. And your parents are part of that system, and they believe in it. Oh, please, I know why you're feeling this way. It's because you're grieving for your little brother. But this is not the right way to go about it -- consumed with hate and blind vengeance. No, it won't make you feel any better. It will make you feel worse. And, more important, it won't honor the memory of Zach. I know this is not my business, but I know where you need to be right now. You need to be with your mom and dad. They just went in to see Zach. And I think they're going to need you. We're all going to need each other.

Shawn D.: Yeah, you're right. I should be with my family... especially now.

Mickey: Anything you need, Shawn, Maggie and I are here.

Shawn D.: Thank you.

Maggie: I'm so glad you're here.

Jennifer: What happened to Zach? Is he gonna be okay?

Maggie: No, sweetheart, he isn’t. I didn't want to tell you this over the phone, but little Zach was hit by a car. He's brain-dead.

Jennifer: What?! Oh, my gosh, no. Oh, he can't be. This can't be true.

Maggie: I'd give anything if it weren’t.

Jennifer: Oh, my gosh, where's Hope? Aunt Maggie, where's Hope? What about Bo? Where's Bo?

Shawn: I hope I'm not interrupting anything.

Caroline: Oh, no. No, Shawn, of course you're not. Thank you for lending me a shoulder to cry on.

Victor: Anytime.

Victor: Excuse me, Officers. I assume you're here about the hit-and-run.

Officer Hammond: Yeah, we are.

Victor: I'm Victor Kiriakis. I'm the victim's grandfather, also Bo Brady's father. If there's anything that I can do, anything at all, please don't hesitate to ask.

Officer Daniels: We'll do that. Thank you, Mr. Kiriakis. And, sir, you have our condolences.

Victor: Thank you.

Officer Daniels: Boy, is he in for a surprise.

Officer Hammond: So is Detective Brady. I don't think he has a clue his car actually killed his little boy.

Hope: The most important thing is he's still alive. He's still with us. Maybe in time, he'll just wake up, and he won't need life support anymore.

Bo: Is that possible, Lexie?

Lexie: No. I wish it were, but it doesn't work that way.

Hope: He's not dead. He still has a chance. I can hear him breathing.

Lexie: Honey, that's artificial respiration.

Hope: He's so warm. I can feel his little pulse.

Bo: Hope... I don't want to believe it, either, but he's gone. His body will shut down as soon as they turn off the life support.

Hope: They are not turning off these machines. You are not taking my son from me.

Frankie: "To Frankie, from Jack." "DVD -- play me." Jack... let's see what you're up to.

Jack: [Clears throat] Uh... uh, hello, Frankie. If you're watching this right now, it means that I'm already dead. Never thought I would ever get a chance to say that. "Dead man talking." [Sighs] Look, I'm just gonna get to the point. I'm checking up on you, Frankie. I want to make sure you're following through on your promise to take care of Jennifer and to be there for her. I'm sure she's not making it easy right now. She's grieving. She's in no state of mind to think about moving on, so if we leave it to her, she never will be. And that's why I want you to step up to the plate. I want you to do it. Pull out all the stops -- anything it takes. You've got to help her see that there's life after Jack. Life... and a chance to love.

Frankie: Jack...

Jack: Don't argue with me. I know that's what you're doing right now. Don't argue with me, please. You can do this. Please, you promised, and I know you can do it. Jennifer loved you once, and I know, in time... she can again.

John: You gonna answer me, Dr. Banks?

Lois: I was worried about Marlena. I just wanted to check up on her.

John: How'd you know she was here?

Marlena: Yes, how did you?

Lois: Marlena, you're awake.

Marlena: Yes, I am.

Lois: I'm so sorry if I startled you. I went to look for you in Alex's room, and the nurse said you were headed this way. I saw your name on the door. I figured you were inside. I came in. I found you asleep.

Marlena: This is the second time tonight that I have been awakened and found you standing over me.

Lois: Again, I apologize. I don't know why I'm so worried about you. I guess I just -- I can't help it. It's 'cause you were like a sister to me, and I guess even after all these years, I still feel the same way. I feel very protective of you.

John: That makes two of us. In fact, right now, I'd like to be able to protect you from some more bad news.

Marlena: John? What, is it Claire?

John: No, no. I never made it to the ICU. I ran into Mickey Horton on the way. Something horrible happened to Bo and Hope's little boy.

Marlena: What?

John: He was run over by a car tonight. He died.

Marlena: Oh! Oh, oh...no.

John: Are you sure you're up for this?

Marlena: Yes, I want to get to Belle right away. When she hears about Zach... I want to make sure she knows that I am there for her.

John: We'll both be there.

Marlena: Thank you. Sorry, Lois.

Lois: That's all right. I'll catch up with you later. And when I do, you're a dead woman.

Jack: One last thing, Frankie. Whenever you decide the time is right -- I'll leave it to your discretion -- you can show this to Jennifer. I think maybe it'll help her to see that this -- you and her together -- is what I really want. I want... I loved her so much with all that I am -- was -- am. And... I guess I'm just gonna have to trust you to help her to love you in the same way. And, uh... Jennifer, if you're listening to this now, uh... please don't feel guilty about falling in love with Frankie. It's not a betrayal. You're not denying me or our love or anything like that. It's not wrong. What would be wrong would be you giving up on a chance of a life of happiness that I know that you could have. [Sighs] Look, other than me, Frankie is the best man for you and for our kids. So, please, just give him a chance. Please. And remember that... I'll always love you. Always.

Max: It's too bad you couldn't reach Billie, but at least you tried.

Chelsea: Yeah. I just hope she gets my message and calls me back. Hey.

Max: How you guys doing?

Jennifer: Shawn, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.

Shawn D.: Thanks for coming.

Jennifer: Is there anything I can do?

Shawn D.: My folks -- do you know where they went?

Doug: Yeah. They're inside with Zach -- cubicle one. I think it would be okay if you went in.

Mimi: I'll be right here.

Shawn D.: All right, thanks.

Hope: I won't let you do it. I won't let you turn off those machines, Bo.. He can't die. Please.

Shawn D.: Oh, my God, Zach's alive? What?

Lexie: Zach is on life support. I was just explaining -- your brother is brain-dead. He's not coming back. The only reason he's breathing is because he's hooked up to a respirator.

Bo: Hey... this means we have a very tough decision to make.

Hope: I can't believe what I'm hearing. You really want to pull the plug on our son's life?

Bo: Hope, no, no, no. Of course I don’t. But we got to think about what's right for Zach?

Hope: How? How do we do that? How do we say goodbye? I can't say goodbye..

Shawn D.: Me either. We just have to give him a chance. I don't care.

Bo: That's the thing, Shawn. He has no chances. That's what Lexie's been trying to tell us. You know how much I love your little brother. I would give anything to bring him back. If there was a chance in a million... but there isn’t. Is there, Lexie?

Lexie: No, I -- I'm so sorry, but, no, there is no chance at all.

Bo: So Zach is gone. But he won't be at peace until we can let him go. So we've got no choice. We have to turn off the life-support system.

Shawn D.: He had a great arm. I would tell him all the time, "if you want to pitch in the majors, you can, buddy." And now we'll never know.

Philip: We have to say goodbye to our little girl.

Carrie: My God, Austin, I don't believe it.

Bo: We need to know two things. Who was driving the car that hit our son and how they're gonna be punished. right, Kevin. Don't you?

Kevin: Absolutely.
