Brady: It was a very beautiful service.

Nicole: Very moving.

Brady: Caroline will be missed. Poor Mr. Brady. He was trying to tell me something before he left. It kind of make me think.

Nicole: What was that?

Brady: Just basically that life is fleeting and unpredictable, and you only get one chance. So if you're fortunate enough to find true love, as he did with Caroline....

Nicole: Don't ever let it go.

Brady: Yeah. How'd you know that?

Nicole: That's what I believe, too, Brady.

Brady: Nicole, would you excuse me? There's someone really important that I have to talk to.

Nicole: Now?

Brady: Yeah, I need to tell her something -- something I should've said a long time ago.

Nicole: Damn it, Brady. Don't be a fool.

Victor: Something wrong, my dear?

Nicole: You. This is all your fault.

Bo: Come on... come on. Give us the rest of it.

Hope: Maybe that's all there is.

Bo: "A murder is announced"? No, there's gotta be more. Every time this sick bastard gets a hold of us, they give us who the next victim's going to be. Here, it's coming through.

Hope: It looks like some kind of graphic -- a newspaper clipping?

Bo: Oh, man. It's an obituary.

Hope: "Veteran Salem cop killed in the line of duty." Oh, my God, Bo, a cop. What if --

Bo: We'll know soon enough. What is that? A... it's a picture-- a photograph.

Hope: Oh, my God.

Bo: It's Roman.

Hope: Oh, my God, he's the killer's next target.

Bo: So far, every target eventually winds up dead.

Hope: How do we tell him?

Roman: Well, okay, Rex, so who's going to be the next victim, and, ,, why will it be tough on Kate?

Rex: You know, maybe I shouldn't say.

Roman: No, it's all right, Son, go ahead.

Rex: Well, according to my calculations... the serial killer will be coming after you.

Marlena: No. Rex.

Roman: So I'm going to be the next target.

Sami: No, no, that is crazy. He is just saying that because he wants you to die. You just hate my Dad because you can't stand the fact that you're a Brady.

Roman: Sami, that's enough.

John: No, she could be onto something, Roman. Rex is still loyal to the Dimeras, and they've always had it in for your family, right?

Tony: Did I just hear my name?

John: What the hell are you doing here?

Tony: Oh, is that any way to greet your Brother?

John: You've got no business here.

Tony: Well, I've come to offer my sincere condolences to Commander Brady. Perhaps you'll find comfort in knowing that you and your dear departed Mother will be reunited in eternity.

John: Is that a prediction or a death threat?

Victor: I have no idea what you're talking about.

Nicole: I am talking about your little plan of bringing Chloe Lane back to Salem. Brady was over her. He moved on with his life until you had to go sticking your nose where it doesn't belong.

Victor: Oh, don't kid yourself, Nicole. He was never over her. He's been miserable ever since she left. But all that's going to change today.

Nicole: Today? What's happening today?

Victor: Well, let's just say I have a little surprise planned for Brady -- one that's going to make him happy and you not.

Nicole: No. You didn't actually -- Victor, did you bring that girl back? Is she here? Tell me.

Victor: What, and ruin the surprise?

Nicole: You are going to regret this, you'll see. This whole plan is going to blow up in your face.

Victor: What are you doing here, anyway? You have no business being at Caroline's funeral.

Nicole: I am here for Brady. He was very upset. And my rival for your affections was like a Grandmother to him.

Victor: Rival? Don't flatter yourself. A woman like you isn't even fit to speak her name. And as far as Brady is concerned, you can go ahead and make your play for him, because you're not even a blip on his radar screen. And once Chloe gets here, you never will be.

Nicole: You want to make a bet on that?

Brady: So much I want to say...I just wish I told you before. I just wish I'd told you before how much you meant to me. I know I wasn't really your Grandson, but you always treated me like I was. Now, if you don't mind, I'd like to ask you for one last favor. When you see my Mom up in heaven, could you give her my love? And please tell her that I wish I could've known her. From what I hear, she was an incredible woman. And she shared a really great love with my Father. I know they didn't have a lot of time, but they made the most of what they did have. You know, maybe I should've done that with Chloe, huh? But, no, see, I had to let her go. I had to let her follow her dream. Still...I wonder when -- when she's up on stage singing some... sad aria about lost love, is she thinking about me? I think about her a lot. I was talking to her last night on the phone, and all I wanted to do was tell her how much I miss her and how much I wish that we were together. But I couldn't do that. I couldn't tell her that I love her and that I always will.

Tony: Whatever gave you the idea that I came here to threaten the Commander's life? As I said, I'm here to extend my condolences. Also, I brought a wreath for Caroline's grave.

John: Oh, spare me the bereaved mourner act. I'm still convinced you and the Dimeras are somehow behind all these killings.

Rex: What are you -- crazy? My own Sister was one of the victims.

John: Yeah. And that one had to be difficult.

Rex: You Son of a --

Tony: Just get a hold of yourself. We're in a house of God. At least the Dimeras know how to respect that.

Rex: Look, I try and help you people, and this is what I get?

Marlena: Tony, Rex believes that Roman is going to be the next victim.

Sami: Oh, who cares what Rex thinks? After all, he's the one who predicted that Uncle Bo, Aunt Hope, or Dad would be next, and are any of them dead? No. So, so much for your exhaustive analysis of the killer's mind, Rex.

Rex: I can explain why my reasoning failed.

Roman: Why is that, Rex?

Rex: Look, I had no idea that Cassie would get a hold of a vital piece of information about the killer or that she was on her way to the police to I.D. them. That's why she was murdered. I mean, it's logic -- pure and simple. And logic’s now telling me the next victim has to be Roman.

Sami: Where is the logic in that?

Rex: He went on record in court today -- swore Kate was innocent -- which, by the way, I believe she is.

Sami: Wrong again.

Rex: But he didn't just stop there. No. He vowed, not only to clear Kate's name, but to personally nail the killer. That's a direct threat. We all know how this sociopath deals with those. Roman clearly will have to be eliminated.

Kate: Oh, no.

Marlena: Oh, my gosh.

Mimi: Rex, how can you say something like that?

Rex: It's what I believe.

Mimi: But you are predicting the death of your own Father. How can you just be so... matter of fact?

Rex: Because I'm not allowing emotions to cloud my judgment, all right? I'm trying to think like the killer.

Roman: What's going on? Something tells me this isn't good news.

Bo: We got another message from the killer. It came in on my PDA.

Hope: They named the next victim.

Sami: Oh, see? Now we're talking. That is some real information, unlike Rex's crazy "think like the killer" theories. Now, seriously, tell us -- who did the killer name?

Roman: All right, let's have it. What was the message? Who were they targeting?

Bo: It was you, Roman.

Sami: What?

Hope: The killer sent us your obituary.

Sami: No.

Marlena: Who could do such a thing?

Roman: "Roman Brady -- Salem Police Commander, dedicated veteran cop -- killed in the line of duty, another victim of the Salem serial killer. There were no clues or evidence found at the scene."

Kate: Oh, God, Roman, no.

Sami: Dad, it's him. He's the one who did it. John is the killer. Dad, you have to arrest him. Put him behind bars, and throw away the key! Lock him up before he kills you, before he kills our whole family! Dad. Dad, listen to me.

Sami: Dad, what are you waiting for -- him to carry out his threats? Arrest him! Arrest him while you still have the chance.

Roman: Sami, just get a hold of yourself. I'm not arresting John.

Sami: Why? Why won't --

Roman: Because he hasn't broken the law. There's no evidence whatsoever that he sent this message to Bo.

Sami: Oh, Mom, make him listen. He's going to get himself killed if he doesn't --

Marlena: Sami, stop it, stop it. Your accusations make everything worse.

Sami: Okay, if no one wants to help me, then fine! Fine, don't help me! I will find out who the killer is, and I swear to God --

Roman: Sami, that's enough! Now, damn it, I know you're scared, but cool it!

Sami: Daddy, please just listen to me.

Roman: No! No! You said you wanted to help, let us get back to work. All right, now, what have we got on who sent this thing?

Bo: Tek's already run a search.

Roman: Nothing, right?

Hope: The message was just like all the others. It was untraceable.

Bo: Which pretty much proves the killer sent it.

Rex: I tried to tell you. That's exactly what I predicted.

Sami: Oh, maybe you knew all along because you sent it.

Rex: Oh, right, like I'd be that stupid.

Sami: Okay, fine, you're not stupid. You're a computer genius who happens to have a sick and twisted mind. Maybe you really are the killer.

Rex: Yeah, Sami, I killed my Sister, and now I'm going to kill my Father.

Sami: Not if I kill you first!

Roman: Sami! Sami! Sami! Now stop this craziness.

Lucas: Roman. What are you doing, huh? What are you doing? You're out of control.

Sami: What does it look like I'm doing, Lucas? I'm trying to save my Father from the killer.

Kate: Well, who is the killer, Sami? I mean, first you accuse me, and then you accuse John, and now you're accusing Rex. Why can't you just make up your mind? You know, the reason you can't make up your mind is because you know none of us is the killer. The real killer is you!

Sami: Oh, get the hell out of my face, Kate!

Lucas: Watch it! Don't talk to my Mother that way!

Sami: She started it! She's accusing me of wanting to kill my own Father?

Rex: Which is exactly what you did to me! Maybe Kate's right! Maybe it is you!

Hope: Stop it! Just stop it! My God, can you not see what is happening here, what is happening to this whole town? Pretty soon, no one is going to trust anyone. And you know what? I don't want to live like that. Come on. As a community, we have always had strength, and we have always overcome anything. And we will overcome this, too. But we have got to stick together. We cannot lose faith in each other.

Bo: Hope is right. Nothing is more important than friends and family right now. We got to stand together, send a message to the killer that we're not going to back down. They are not going to break us.

Roman: You're damn right they're not. The police are going to solve this. We're going to make this town safe again. That is a promise. Now, why don't we break this up, let us get back to work? Hope.

Sami: [ Sobbing ]

Bo: You all right?

John: Roman. My offer still stands to help any way I can.

Roman: John, thank you. But, you know, last time I looked, you're still on that suspect list.

John: So much for having faith in your friends, right?

Tony: Hmm. Nice job, Rex -- predicting the killer's next victim. It really shows up the ineptness of this police force.

Rex: Well, it helps knowing exactly how the criminal mind works.

Roman: All right, I want this killer caught. But we got to do it by the book.

Bo: Speaking of which, you should take yourself off this case now that you're a target.

Roman: Not a chance.

Bo: Roman.

Marlena: May I speak to you for a minute?

Roman: Well, uh, Doc, can it wait? I mean, we're a little busy here right now.

Marlena: I understand. It'll just be a minute, I promise.

Bo: It's okay. We'll check in with the station, get back to you.

Roman: All right. Doc, what is it?

Marlena: Well, Roman, I'm -- I'm a bit worried about you, that's all.

Roman: Marlena --

Marlena: I know you. I know you're not taking this terribly seriously, but... I need you to. We've got the Bradys, we've got your children... so many people count on you. I need you to be careful, and promise me you'll do that, Roman, because if anything -- if anything were to happen to you, we just couldn't take it. You have to promise me. Promise me you'll be careful. Promise, promise.

Victor: When John lost Isabella, he was a broken man. He was in a great deal of pain for a very long time. My Grandson doesn't have to go through that. He can recapture what he's lost and find true happiness with Chloe.

Nicole: What a load of crap.

[ Cellular phone rings ]

Victor: Yes. Ah, good. She's arrived. Yes, well, you have one of the limos meet the private jet, take her directly back to the house. That'll be perfect. You tell her that I'm glad that she's here and I look forward to welcoming her myself. Now, where were we?

Nicole: I can't believe you've really done it. Wait till Brady finds out.

Brady: Wait till I find out what?

Brady: Wait till I find out about what? What the hell are you talking about?

Victor: Well, it's a surprise, Brady -- one that I'm sure will please you very much.

Brady: What kind of surprise?

Victor: Well, why don't we just go home? You can see for yourself.

Brady: Sure, whatever. I'll bring the car around.

Nicole: You're the one who's going to be surprised when your Grandson goes through the roof at what you've done. And trust me, he will.

Victor: Well, if he does, I'm sure he'll get over it very quickly.

Nicole: He made it very clear to you how he felt. He would never let his precious Chloe give up her career for him. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he put her on the first plane back to Italy or wherever the hell she came from.

Victor: Well, that's one theory. I, of course, envision a different scenario -- one where they find themselves in each other's arms, nothing else will matter, and true love will triumph. And you, my dear, will not. Ha ha ha ha.

Sami: Please, God, please help me. Help me find a way save my father's life. And help me find a way to get him back together with my Mom -- the woman he loves. And I know she loves him back. If we could make one happen, I know the other will follow. You just have to show me the way.

Lucas: Like God is going to help you mess up four lives?

Sami: What I pray for is between me and my God, Lucas.

Lucas: Your God? What, like, he's got nothing better to do than to listen to you whine? Is that it, Sami? You should be praying for your Father's life right now, not scheming how to torpedo your Father's relationship with my Mother or John and Marlena's.

Sami: Look, for your information, I was praying for both.

Lucas: When are you going to get it through your head, huh? Marlena loves John. Roman loves my Mother. There's nothing you or your God can do to stop that.

Sami: For your information, you're wrong. I'm going to make you eat your words, Lucas. Because I just had divine inspiration.

Lucas: Oh, really, you have? Really?

Sami: Yeah. The perfect plan. It's the answer to all my prayers.

Kate: What is she up to?

John: Who?

Kate: Sami. Oh, I can see that gleam in her eye. I can spot it a mile away.

John: She's the least of my concerns. Right now I'm worried about tony dimera and what his next move's going to be.

Marlena: I think she can't help herself. I think she's so caught up in the pain of the moment, she can't get out of her own way.

Roman: I know, but she's -- what do you want, Dimera?

Tony: Oh, I'm sorry. I'm interrupting. But I'll get straight to the point. Well, I hear that the Bradys are a traditional family with traditional values, and I just don't want my question to sound indelicate. I'm trying to avoid embarrassment.

Roman: You said something about getting to the point.

Tony: Yes, yes, yes, of course. What I was wondering is to whom do I send my condolences to what appears to be your imminent demise? Do I send it to your lovely Ex-Wife or to your current flame Kate? From what I hear, you're in love with both of them.

Marlena: Tony, how dare you?

Roman: I'm glad you find this so amusing, Tony.

Tony: Well, it was an innocent question.

Roman: Nothing about you is innocent.

Marlena: How can you taint this moment with such a tasteless little joke? Can't you see Roman's having a hard time? The whole family's in pain right now.

Tony: Oh, forgive me. Perhaps my little stab at levity was in poor taste, especially since another Brady funeral's just around the corner.

Marlena: Roman is not going to die.

Tony: Well, I'd like to believe that as well, but it seems that this killer has proved time and again that he can outwit the Salem P.D...and it seems that he or she, if slightly threatened, will make sure that that person ends on a slab in a morgue.

John: We need to talk.

Tony: Oh? Oh. If looks could kill... is it a wonder that you're on the suspect list?

John: And as I recall, your name's on it, too.

Tony: Yes, but you have more of a motive -- a motive behind killing since time immemorial.

John: And that would be?

Tony: A woman. You'd do anything not to lose Marlena to Roman, but the irony of it all is in the eyes of God, Marlena's still his Wife, not yours.

Sami: Mom, Dad, I have an incredible idea.

Roman: I don't think I want to hear this.

Sami: Dad, please, please, just give me a chance.

Marlena: Honey, okay, what is it?

Sami: Look, we know that Dad is now in terrible danger, that the killer is coming after him, and Grandma and Abe both came back from the dead to warn that John was going to kill you.

Marlena: Oh, Sami, please, enough of that talk, all right?

Roman: What's your point, Sami?

Sami: My point is that I don't think either of you are safe in Salem. You have to get out of town. You both have to leave town together today.

Marlena: What?

Sami: You have to go somewhere far away, somewhere where no one will be able to find you. That is the only way, the only way that you can save each other's lives.

Marlena: Sami.

Victor: This has been a very sad day -- a hard day. And no one is more aware of it than me. But if there's anything that we can do, even the slightest thing to make it happier, I'm sure that's something that Caroline would appreciate very much.

Brady: I doubt that that's possible, Granddad.

Victor: Now, you'll see... very shortly.

Brady: What, this surprise? Are you going to tell me what the hell's going on?

Victor: All in due time. Right now I have to make a phone call in my study. You just carry on.

Victor: Merely a matter of minutes, my dear, till your complete and utter destruction.

Nicole: I need a drink. How about you?

Brady: It's a little early for me. Thank you.

Nicole: I can't help it. Funerals make me thirsty, especially my own.

Brady: What was that?

Nicole: I said I'd like to make a toast to you, Brady. I'm very proud of you.

Brady: For what?

Nicole: You did a noble thing with Chloe last night when she called. I know it must have been difficult to talk her into staying in Europe, but you did what you thought was right.

Brady: Yeah, I've been thinking about that.

Nicole: Thinking?

Brady: Yeah. Just wondering if I... made a really bad mistake.

John: Tony, you know I would die before I ever hurt my Wife.

Tony: That may not be a bad idea, if you choose to play the safe side. After all, you were trained as a Dimera mercenary.

John: That's a fact, but that was a long time ago under mind control, and you know it.

Tony: Hmm. But what if, perhaps deep inside, in the subconscious, you are still a loyal soldier to the cause? Hmm. Now, wouldn't that be something? Wouldn't that give my Father the last laugh, if you turned out to be Salem's serial killer?

Sami: So you agree with me, don't you? I mean, I can tell you understand that this is the only way. You have to get out of town and -- and right away.

Marlena: Oh, Sami.

Sami: Mom, Mom, Dad obviously still agrees that -- that John is capable of anything. I mean, that's why he put him on the suspect list.

Roman: I had a reason for that.

Sami: And a very good one. John doesn't have an alibi for any of the killings.

Sami: Dad, please. You know this is the right thing to do. It's not just for you, it's for Mom, too. Please. Please tell me you'll take her away. Take her out of town while you still can. Please say you'll listen to me, Dad. I-I can't lose you. I can't lose both my parents.

Roman: Sami... Sami, listen to me. I'm sorry. I would love to put your mind at rest, but my going away with your Mother is just never going to happen. It's not going to happen now, it's not going to happen ever.

Sami: Daddy.

Sami: Grandma... Grandma, I wish you were here. I wish you were here, because they would listen to you. I know Mom and Dad would have listened to you. They -- they would have understood. You could have made them see that they had to get out of here or they're going to end up dead, too.

[ Sobbing ] Grandma.

Lucas: Come on, Sami. Come on, stop.

Sami: Lucas. Lucas, why do I always end up alone? Austin and -- and Brandon and -- and now my Grandma's gone forever. What if I lose my Mom and Dad, too? What if they die? Besides Will, who will I even have left?

Lucas: You'll have me.

Kate: Oh. Look at this. Look what she's doing to him. It is my worst nightmare come to life.

John: Lucas is a big boy, Kate. He can take care of himself.

Kate: Oh, not when it comes to Sami. She'd do anything to hurt me, even destroy my Son.

Marlena: Well, Sami is right about one thing -- the danger to you is very real.

Roman: Doc.

Marlena: Maybe she was right. Maybe you should leave town for a while.

Roman: I'm not going anywhere. First, I have a job to do. I swore an oath to serve and protect the people of Salem, and that's what I'm going to do. Second... this is my home. This is where my family is. This is where my friends are. And third... when it gets tough, I don't desert the people I love. I don't run away. You should know that.

Marlena: I do know that. I know that you're an extraordinary, committed, courageous man, and nobody wants to lose you. Not your family... not the people who love you the most.

Hope: Roman, listen, just listen to what we have --

Roman: And before you two start in, I have made up my mind. I'm not leaving town.

Bo: Well, good.

Hope: That's very good.

Bo: We don't want you to.

Hope: That's right, because we have a much better idea.

Rex: Look, Roman Brady means nothing to me.

Mimi: Nothing? He's your Father. He helped give you life.

Rex: All he gave me was a strand of DNA, and he didn't even know he did that much till a few days ago.

Mimi: That wasn't his fault.

Mimi: So... Roman Brady's a good man. And I know you just lost Cassie, and I know that she was closer to you than anyone else in the world, and I'm not saying that he can take her place, but... if you just give him a chance...

Tony: You should listen to her. She's absolutely right.

Nicole: Brady, now is not the time to be selfish. If you really care about Chloe, you have to think of her. She's on the brink of something huge right now, of realizing every dream she's ever had. And if you let her throw that away, you're going to end up hating yourself, and she will -- she could always wonder what might have been, and I'm sure that's not what you want.

Brady: No, of course not. I'm just thinking there might be a way that I can make it work.

Nicole: What way?

Brady: I don't know. I don-- I know that I can't envision living the rest of my life without her.

Nicole: Oh, Brady --

Brady: All right, you know what? I am not going to talk about this anymore.

Nicole: Don't do it, Brady. Don't let him win.

Victor: You look like a drowning woman, my dear.

Nicole: I'm not sunk yet.

Victor: No? Well, you better take a deep breath, 'cause you're about to go down for the last time.

Nicole: Is that her? Is she here?

Victor: [ Chuckles ] Uh, yup.

Kate: [ Sighs ] The way she's working it...

John: You know, I'm the last person who wants to defend Samantha right now, but one thing I do know -- she idolizes her Father. Those tears are all.

Kate: Well, that's what's so frightening. Because when Sami is that desperate, that's when bad things happen, and my Son -- he's right within firing range.

Lucas: How, uh...how I-I don't think we should fight in front of Will anymore. It's bad for the kid to see his parents interact that way.

Sami: So you're saying that the only reason you've been nice to me lately is for Will's sake, that you don't really care about me at all.

Lucas: No. That's not true. I do care about you.

Bo: I know exactly how stubborn my big Brother can be, so it's a no-brainer that you're not going to leave town or dig a hole and hide.

Roman: You got that right.

Bo: So we put out a call to arms, marshaled the resources of the entire Salem P.D. Every single man --

Hope: And woman --

Bo: And woman is stepping up to the plate, doing extra shifts, volunteering for overtime --

Roman: All right, stop right there.

Hope: Roman --

Roman: That's not going to happen. I don't want special protection.

Bo: What --

Roman: I don't want any protection at all.

Bo: What are you talking about? Rom-- you're a walking target. Anytime, anywhere, the killer could make their next move.

Roman: All right. Then let it happen. Let the bastard come and give us their best shot.

Nicole: So where is she? Why isn't she coming in?

Victor: Well, if you must know, they're bringing our guest in the back way. Are you excited? Ha ha. Brady, you coming down?

Victor: No, I'm going to show you.

Nicole: This is it. I've lost everything. Once Brady sees Chloe, he'll forget I ever existed.

Brady: Granddad, what is this? I'm not in the mood for surprises.

Victor: Oh, I think you will be for this one. This is a surprise that's going to change your entire life.

Victor: Nicole, come in here. I want you to see this, too. I want you to witness the happiest moment of my Grandson's life.

Brady: Granddad, can we just get on with this? Where's the surprise?

Victor: It's right over here. Brady, my boy... I am about to unveil your future.

Sami: Oh, please. That's like saying my only chance at happiness is to wind up with you, and I guarantee that's never going to happen, not in a million years.

John: You know, Kate, from what I'm seeing, I'd say you've got nothing to worry about.

Kate: Well, maybe not this second, but only a fool would count Sami out, because she won't stop until she gets everything she wants... and that's the complete annihilation of you and me and Lucas.
