[Missed a minute or two at the beginning...]
Jack: What the hell did you slap me for?
Sami: What the hell was that kiss for? What's your problem, Jack?
Jennifer: That's what I'd like to know.
Colin: I was talking about my Uncle Shawn.
Nicole: You can see him any time. I'm hungry now.
Colin: Ooh. 2-year-olds have more patience.
Nicole: Are you calling me childish?
Colin: No, just...Petulant, selfish, prone to pout when you don't get your way. Second thoughts, "childish" pretty well covers it.
Nicole: Hey, you are buying dinner, and I'm getting lobster.
Shawn: You're dating Nicole again, then, eh?
Colin: Mm, so it would seem.
Shawn: Well, she wouldn't be my first choice, but, uh, better than chasing a married woman.
Colin: Jennifer's divorced, Uncle Shawn. I've no intention of hurting her. On the contrary.
Shawn: Meaning?
Colin: Nothing. Look, I need you to do something. Get a message to Bo and his wife. Tell them not to come home. It won't be safe if they do.
Nicole: What are you looking at, fool?
John: What happened? Talk to me, sugar -- sweet and lowdown.
Lexie: John, the only reason I'm here is to get my things.
John: Oh, come on, Lexie, you're lying to me again. You know, I can see it in your eyes.
Lexie: Would you do something with him? I don't have the energy right now.
Brandon: John, you're out of line.
John: Brandon, here's a heads-up. She will do more than lie if it suits her agenda. By the way, what is your agenda? Are you still after Bo and Hope's baby?
Lexie: Losing a child is something I wouldn't wish on anyone, not even you. I'm still coming to terms with it, but... It's going to take time. It'll happen.
John: That's a nice story. But that impressed the powers-that-be at the psych ward, so who wrote it -- you or Stefano?
Lexie: You know, you've always been obsessed with my father. Now you're barely rational.
John: Come on, come on, when is he coming back? I know you know. Just tell me.
Lexie: All right, fine, fine! Since you're so damn interested, I'll tell you the truth. But brace yourself, John. You're not going to like it.
Jennifer: What is going on?
Jack: I don't owe you an explanation. What goes on between Sami and me is private.
Sami: Private? What are you talking about, Jack? There's nothing "going on" between us.
Jack: Sami, you don't need to explain, either. You see, I'm not with Jennifer anymore. She's made it perfectly clear that she sees no future for us. Now I have no choice but to take her word for it.
Jennifer: Since when, Jack?
Jack: Will today do?
Jennifer: I have some work that I need to do, and so do you, Jack. So, Sami, if you don't mind...
Sami: Oh, yeah, actually, I do mind. I'll go when I'm good and ready.
Jennifer: Fine. Fine, whatever, Sami.
Jack: Whatever? That's a new one.
Jennifer: Do you know the Gemini meteor shower piece is due tomorrow? And I want your copy on my desk in one hour -- no later.
Sami: Jack, I know why she's acting like this. You had a fight with Brandon, didn't you?
Jennifer: You know what, Sami? Not that it's any of your business, but I am going to fill you in, just to save Brandon from the annoyance of you chasing him around trying to find out what happened.
Sami: See, I was right. They did have a fight.
Jennifer: No, we didn't have a fight. We broke up, and I'm sure that makes you very happy, Sami. And you, too.
Lexie: I hate this expression, but for you, I'll make an exception -- read my lips -- I don't know where my father is. I only wish I did.
John: Why? What did he promise you -- to help you go after Isaac again?
Brandon: Back off, John.
John: Stay out of this.
Brandon: She's been sick. She lost her son.
John: No. Bo and Hope's son. And I don't think Stefano was the only one who knew about that. I think your pal here knew who Isaac was a long time ago and if I were you, I wouldn't get too used to the wide open spaces of DiMera land, because once Stefano gets back, both of you are going to go to prison, and if there is any justice at all, that old man's going to die in there.
Brandon: All right, that's it. You're out of here, John.
John: Kind of protective, isn't he? But then again, I'm not buying the fragile act. And I'm not going to give you the satisfaction of telling everybody in town that I am harassing you, so, as your father would say, ciao.
Lexie: Finally.
John: But just remember -- the second that sick son of a bitch you call your father steps back into town, I'm going to be right there waiting for him. I'm going to put an end to all this madness. That's a fact, Lexie. Brandon.
Lexie: How could I have ever been friends with that man? I hate him.
Brandon: Still, he has a point.
Lexie: How can you say that, Brandon? You heard how he spoke to me!
Brandon: And I stood up for you.
Lexie: Well, thank God!
Brandon: But you weren't honest -- not about Isaac. You still haven't let him go.
Lexie: I can't talk about Isaac right now.
Brandon: You weren't honest about Stefano, either. You know a lot more about his plans than you're letting on, don't you?
Lexie: Look, I told the truth. I don't know where my father is.
Brandon: But you think he's coming back. All right. You know what? Pack some things. We're getting out of here.
Lexie: What?
Brandon: Just do it.
Bart: So much for channel one.
Nicole: Yes, of course, a pedicure, too, and a massage after -- Swedish full body. And make sure the oil's hot this time.
Bart: Full body... Oil...
[Telephone rings]
Bart: Oy. Make it quick. I haven't had it this good since the days Pam Ran Slo-Mo by the bay every night at 11:00. Sir! Uh, I-I thought you were somebody else, sir. What can I do for you? You're kidding. When? Tonight? Yes, sir. Tonight. All I can say is, Salem town, grab something and hold on -- hard -- because, baby, you are going to get rocked tonight.
Shawn: Wh-what do you mean, "don't come home"? Bo and Hope are on their way. I mean, Abe, Roman, everybody else who ought to know it's okay.
Colin: Well, it's not.
Shawn: What is it that you're worried about? Now, son, I give you my word, nothing you say will go any further.
Colin: There's movement in the DiMera organization. No one knows exactly what game it is, but something's coming down and soon.
[Knuckles cracking]
Sami: I knew it. All that talk about your relationship, your big romantic getaway, but bam -- 24 hours later, it's over.
Jennifer: You know what, Sami? I realize that gloating is one of your favorite sports, along with lying, meddling, and being a pariah, but could you do it somewhere else? Because I have work to do.
Sami: So do I...Now. Oh, and... Jack -- ahem. About the kiss. Don't let it go to your head, but it wasn't half bad, and you certainly deserve better than her. Bye for now.
Sami: It is about time miss high and mighty found out who she was dealing with.
[Telephone rings]
Brandon's voice: Hey, this is Brandon. I'm not in right now...
Sami: Figures. Anytime you really, really need to talk to someone...
[Beep]
Sami: Hi, um, Brandon, it's me, and I'm supposed to have lunch with my dad, but I really need to see you today, so call me on my cell as soon as you get this.
[Elevator bell chimes]
Sami: Ahem. Brandon Walker, you're as good as mine.
Shawn: Listen, you have to warn Bo.
Colin: He won't listen to me.
Shawn: All right, then I'll talk to him. That's all you are sure of, right? I mean, that something is happening, but not what or where or when?
Colin: I told you, I don't have any details, but this is at the highest levels of Stefano's organization. Whatever happens, it won't just be big, it'll be big.
Nicole: Two questions. One, why are we whispering? And two, if something big is happening, why didn't anyone tell me?
Sami: Hey. Oh, hi, Jim. Um, do you know where my dad is?
Jim: Commander's office. Been in and out all day.
Sami: Oh, okay. Thank you.
Abe: You saw my wife check into the Salem Inn with Brandon Walker? No -- that's got to be some mistake.
Roman: Hey. Ha ha ha!
Sami: Dad, hi.
Roman: Were you looking for me or what?
Sami: Yeah, uh...
Roman: Listen, I'll tell you what -- why don't you give me five minutes, I'll check with the boss, and we'll go check out that Cuban place. Everybody says it's terrific.
Sami: Oh, I can't.
Roman: What do you mean, you can't? Why not?
Sami: Uh, because if I do, I'll lose this thing, and I have to do it now or it'll be gone forever. I'm sorry, Dad. I got to go.
Abe: Lexie checked into the Salem Inn with Brandon Walker.
Roman: How do you know that? You had somebody follow her. Wow, you weren't kidding, were you? You really don't know where she stands. When do you think Stefano will make contact?
Abe: I don't know. Today, tomorrow -- soon.
Roman: Abe... I'm sorry.
Abe: And to think I just can't help it. I just, uh... Look, you know, my gut tells me that, uh... That they're coming. That the DiMeras -- they're back.
John: That's why we've got to stop them before they go after everyone we care about.
Brandon: I should go.
Lexie: Where?
Brandon: To the hospital. I work there, remember?
Lexie: Why are you so mad?
Brandon: I'm just tired and a little frustrated. I'll call you later, all right?
Lexie: No, no, Brandon. Please don't leave me alone.
Brandon: Lexie --
Lexie: Look, maybe I made a mistake. Maybe I should have gone home with Abe.
Brandon: You can't figure out what to do with your life with Abe there going on about Stefano 24/7.
Lexie: Yeah. Yeah, you're right. I can't take that, not now.
Brandon: You need time. And who knows? Maybe when you've had enough, you'll be ready to move on.
Jennifer: Something on your mind?
Jack: This is where I'm supposed to turn it back on you, to try to push you to tell me what's on your mind.
Jennifer: I have no idea what you're talking about.
Jack: I'm talking about us, what we do -- the verbal sparring, the back-and-forth, the game playing. I'm done.
Jennifer: Excuse me?
Jack: You heard me. I'm done. That's it. I'm not going to reel off one of my lists trying to dazzle you with the many different ways of saying "it's over." I'm done with that, too.
Jennifer: With what, dazzling me, Jack?
Jack: Trying to. It's time to move on. I'm ready. Finally.
Jennifer: I'm not really sure I understand.
Jack: Look, you're through with Brandon, so I think it's time for you and me to be honest about us.
Jennifer: Well, if you're saying that maybe we should try to be together --
Jack: I'm saying I want to see other women.
Jennifer: That's good, because I think that you should.
Jack: Do you?
Jennifer: Yes, I do, not that Sami is such a great choice.
Jack: Are you jealous?
Jennifer: Of course I'm not. Why should I be?
Jack: Gee, let me think.
Jennifer: Look, if you're talking about that kiss, I know that you set it up. You knew that I was standing there.
Jack: Actually, I didn't.
Jennifer: Then why did you do it?
Jack: Because I wanted to. Because I felt like it. The kiss had nothing to do with you. It was my Fourth of July, my declaration of independence, and you know something? Jennifer, it felt damn good.
Roman: Listen, John, uh... It's all right. Abe and I can handle this.
John: Nobody knows these people better than me. Look, I'm not out to step on any toes here, but you need me in on this one, Abraham, and I need to be in on it. These people have caused a lot of misery, and by God, it's going to end, and it's going to stop right now.
Abe: You know, Roman reports to me. You report to both of us. Clear?
John: Absolutely.
Abe: You're in. Roman, can you run down the Intel?
Roman: Yeah. Yeah, uh... ISA got a lot of maybe's, no definites. Same thing, FBI, but everybody's on high alert. Anything happens, we'll know in seconds. So will you.
John: Look, I don't want to push my luck here, but... I need another favor. Marlena's party is tonight. It's our anniversary. I'm throwing it at the Penthouse Grill. My whole family is going to be there.
Roman: And you want to make sure they're safe.
John: Well, I've hired security, but you know Stefano. He can't resist a prime target.
Abe: Oh, don't worry. We'll cover the grill. People will think the president's in town.
John: I appreciate that, Abraham. Any word from Bo?
Roman: Well, pop called him when it looked like Lexie was going to be back in the hospital for a while, told him it was safe to come home.
Abe: Well, Lexie's out now, and Stefano's on his way.
John: So how safe is anyone in Salem tonight?
Nicole: Okay, what's going on? What's this something big that you two are obviously so excited about?
Shawn: Listen, where have you been, lass? I mean, are you really the last soul in town who doesn't know?
Nicole: What?
Shawn: My nephew and I, we, uh... We are fascinated by the celestial matters, you know, which means we're counting the days till the meteor shower.
Nicole: Meteor shower?
Shawn: Gemini meteor showers. Heavenly fireworks. Or will they destroy the world, eh? Ha ha ha. It'll be quite a show, eh, Colin?
Colin: Mm. Hate to miss it.
Nicole: Wow, sounds like people are really into it, huh? The mayor's wife's having a party. Bring your own telescope.
All: [Chuckle]
Shawn: Well, listen, some people are a little bit more scared than they are excited, you know. Frankly, I-- I'm a bit unnerved myself, u know? I sense... Danger heading our way.
Jennifer: You know, I think that you are making an awfully big deal out of one little kiss, Jack.
Jack: I'm trying to be honest, Jennifer, not fake honest. I want to talk to you from my heart.
Jennifer: Okay, go ahead.
Jack: All I ever wanted was to be with you. I asked you to marry me again on several occasions, and you turned me down every time. Now you've been preoccupied with Brandon, and now you've moved on, obviously. So the questions is, who's next on the list? Where do you go from here? I can only assume that now that you're free, you're going to go after Colin. But that's -- that's up to you. My point is, I can't keep pursuing you if you keep pursuing other men. It's not that I won't always love you -- and I'll probably die wanting you -- and I'm not saying that I want you to be with someone else. I'm saying for far too long I've spent all my emotional capital trying to win the Jennifer jackpot, and I can't do it anymore. I won't do it anymore.
Jennifer: But what if --
Jack: What if? What if what? What if I win? Is that what you were going to say? Well, I said I was going to be honest, so okay. I still want that -- a life with you and Abigail. But you have to know what you want. Jennifer, if you want me in the end, then you have to come to me and tell me.
Jennifer: So, what does that mean exactly? Does that mean that you're going to be so busy with other women?
Jack: Like I said, if you want me, let me know. But don't take too long, because I'm definitely looking. Don't be surprised if I end up with someone else.
Jennifer: Well, you weren't, uh, you weren't kidding when you said you wanted to be honest. And I appreciate it, really. I guess I, uh, need to be honest myself.
Jack: Okay.
Jennifer: The thing is, is, um... I have been playing games with you. And I didn't mean it, and I certainly didn't plan it, but... It just happened. I don't know, for a lot of reasons, and -- I guess the thing is now is that I need to look into my heart, and I need to figure out what it is that I need, and then maybe from there I'll know where I'm going and who with.
Jack: Well, I'd better get back to my desk. You, too.
[Laughing]
Jennifer: What?
Jack: It's funny. Really, it's -- you know, with most other couples, the problems start when they try to work together. But with you and me, no matter how bad it gets anywhere else, at work we click. Which reminds me, that puff piece for the magazine is on-line, and I'm almost finished with "it's raining meteors," so...
Jennifer: Jack, wait. When we first met, you were obsessed with work, and you used it to keep people away and to keep life away, and I am not going to let you do that again. I am not going to be the reason that you do that.
Jack: Jennifer, you remember our wedding?
Jennifer: How could you ask me that question? How could I forget our wedding?
Jack: No, not the wedding, the wedding, the reception afterwards. You know, everything was a madhouse, and we -- we slipped away, and then in my back pocket I had the piece of paper with the speech that I wasn't able to give you at the wedding.
Jennifer: Yes, from the day we first met, you surprised me and challenged me and engaged me in a way that no other human being ever has.
Jack: You remember all of that?
Jennifer: No one has ever said anything so beautiful. Not even close.
Jack: It was true... And it still is. Everything I learned, felt, and valued from being with you -- all those things -- I'm going to keep with me till the day I die.
Jennifer: Me too.
Jack: What? What?
Jennifer: Oh, God, Jack, you're just being so serious. I don't even know what to make of all this.
Jack: Well, it's a new me, a new us. We better get used to it.
Brandon: Look, Lexie...
Lexie: What?
Brandon: We're friends.
Lexie: Mm-hmm.
Brandon: Right? Come here, sit down. And we tell each other the truth.
Lexie: Yeah.
Brandon: I don't think Abe's right for you. Never have, never will.
Lexie: Brandon, you're not being exactly objective about this. Come on, you still blame Abe for your mother.
Brandon: You're damn right I do. But that's the past. 'Re talking about the future.
Lexie: I wish my father were here. I know he'd help me.
Brandon: Lexie, he's not God. He can't snap his fingers and make all of your problems go away, especially when he causes half of them.
Lexie: Well, what is this, picking up the slack for John, for Abe? What, suddenly you're a part of the "it's bad, blame Stefano" club?
Brandon: No. That's not what I'm saying.
Lexie: No, no, that's exactly what you're saying.
Sami: Ooh, hi. Hey, um, do you know if Lexie Carver checked in? She's about so tall, she's African-American, she's got tons of attitude.
Man: She checked in a while ago.
Sami: Great. Which room?
Man: Can't say. Hotel policy.
Sami: Oh, come on, please. It's an emergency.
Man: Manager's downstairs. Talk to him if you want.
Sami: I know you, Lexie. I know you can't wait to dump Abe and sink your hooks into another man. Well, not my man. Not Brandon. I'm going to find you, and I'm going to stop you -- any way I can.
Sami: Well, I mean, I can't just stand around here doing nothing. I have to find their room.
Brandon: Is it really possible for everyone to be wrong about the man?
Lexie: Brandon, I'm not saying my father's a saint, but when it matters, when I really need him, he's there.
Brandon: Where was he when you lost Isaac? Where is he now?
Lexie: There's a reason. I know there's a good reason that he hasn't come to help me.
Brandon: I still say counting on Stefano to make everything all right is a mistake. Truth is, the only person that you can count on right now is you.
[Knock on door]
Brandon: I'll get it. What do you want?
Abe: That was Rebhorn. He's sending his best people over to the penthouse grill, so if Stefano does show his face --
Roman: What about Lexie?
Abe: Well, she's still being watched. The main thing right now is Stefano. Who is he coming for first?
John: Well, if history is any guide, you can bet it's going to be someone named "Brady."
Abe: Yeah, we know. That's why the three of us are together, so no matter which way he jumps, we're covered.
John: Look, I know there's -- there's been some bad blood between us lately, and it wasn't easy for either one of you to cut me in on this. I won't forget it. But I need yet another favor, and it's about Marlena... And you.
John: The thing is, tonight is not just a party. Like I said, it's our anniversary, and I want it to be the best one ever. Now, with that said, Abraham, can you be there?
Abe: Absolutely.
Roman: Don't worry. I won't.
John: You won't what?
Roman: You tell me. What are you afraid I'll do?
John: Actually, Roman, I not afraid you're going to do anything, 'cause I know you're past that. But you know how sensitive Marlena is. If she knows that somebody's upset, all she'll be thinking is, "how can I help? What can I do?"
Roman: And that is no way to spend your anniversary. I won't come to the party.
John: Thanks for understanding.
Roman: John, all I ever wanted was for Doc to be happy, and I know she is.
John: Well, she deserves to be happy. And she deserves to be able to celebrate that happiness with her friends and family. And I'm not going to let anybody ruin that -- not Stefano or anybody associated with him.
Nicole: That's seven.
Colin: Excuse me?
Nicole: Drips from the condensation on your glass. I count whenever there's a gap in the conversation. What's going on, Colin? Why are you so tense?
[Cellular phone rings]
[ring]
[ring]
Colin: Yes? I see. And do you know when? Well, we'll have to stay on top of it, won't we?
Nicole: Clearly a serious call. But if you think I'm going to believe that's meteor-related, you can forget it. I'm not going to buy it, not from a guy like you.
Colin: That was the hospital about a patient.
Nicole: Oh. So, is dinner off?
Colin: Of course not. I'm looking forward to it more than ever.
Nicole: So where are we going?
Colin: Hmm... Penthouse Grill. But not till 8:00. It's packed tonight.
Nicole: Oh, well, in that case, I'm going to go home and change.
Colin: Why? You look great.
Nicole: I want to look greater. Don't complain, okay? If you play your cards right, you might get a better show tonight than some old meteor shower. And... If you're a good boy, you just might think you've died and gone to heaven.
Colin: And what if I'm bad?
Nicole: Even better.
Bart: Mama Mia. What I wouldn't give to see that hot tamale strutting it at the Penthouse Grill tonight. Everyone who's anyone's going to be there, except me. And they are going to get the shock of their lives when a certain uninvited guest walks in. Forget died and gone to heaven. They'll think they died and went to hell.
Colin: Whew.
Jennifer: Okay, Jack, it's a nice lead, but you got to give me more heart on the close. Okay, uh, mention the grandmother's tears of pride sooner. And a little build to the runner-up missing "terpsichorean" and Jeannie nailing "onomatopoeia."
Jennifer: How did you know what I'd want to change?
Jack: Like I said before, we click at work, especially in matters of earth-shaking importance like regional finals in the spelling bee. What?
Jennifer: Nothing. I just -- I have another assignment for you.
Jack: The azalea festival, please.
Jennifer: Use or lose the headline. It's yours.
Jack: "Where is Stefano DiMera?"
Jennifer: And, I mean, technically it's not news, because, you know, we don't know the answer, but if we find out, could you even think of a bigger story?
Jack: Aside from the Pope, the president, and all the crowned heads of Europe going down on the same ship, no, but why me?
Jennifer: Because you're available.
Jack: Who wouldn't be available? I mean, all -- all the Pulitzer hopefuls around here would kill for this story.
Jennifer: Well, you know what? That's too bad. You're better. You're the best.
Jack: Thanks. Thanks. I'll get this story, and I'll get it right.
Jennifer: Jack just remember that you're dealing with the DiMeras, so please be very careful. Promise me.
Jack: I promise. I'll be careful.
Jack: I'll be whatever else I need to be to find out what the DiMeras are up to.
Man: Miss Carver?
Lexie: Yes, that's me.
Man: This was delivered for you.
Lexie: Who's it from?
Man: A private courier. He insisted I give it to you personally. Is everything all right?
Lexie: Yes, everything's fine now. Brandon, no one must know about this. Promise me you won't tell.
Brandon: Don't worry, I won't.
Lexie: I don't know what I would do without you.
On the next "Days of Our Lives..."
Sami: Damn you, Lexie. Brandon is mine, and I'm going to get you out of his life if it is the last thing I do.
Lexie: Ahh! Ha ha. I was right. My father's coming home -- tonight.
