Belle: Shawn, this doesn't feel right.

Shawn-D: We won't be long.

Belle: We should be at the hospital right now.

Shawn-D: You said that Chloe can't have visitors, right? Okay, and she wants to have some time alone.

Belle: You're right. She would, especially after everything she went through to get us back together.

Shawn-D: All right, so let's go in and have a good time, just for a little while, all right?

Belle: Okay.

Caroline: Hey, you two!

Shawn-D: Hello.

Shawn: My grandson and the lovely Belle! Ha ha ha ha! Just in time.

Caroline: Your table is waiting.

Belle: Our table?

Caroline: Yes. Right this way, mademoiselle.

Belle: Shawn...

Jennifer: Mmm, hey, baby.

Abby: Mommy, did you go mountain climbing at Green Mountain Lodge?

Jennifer: No, I-I didn't do any mountain climbing at all, actually. I just -- I went there to relax.

Abby: Well, you don't look relaxed.

Jennifer: Okay, well, you know, why don't you go upstairs and unpack your overnight bag and change your clothes for your day trip with great gram?

Abby: Where are we going, Great Gram?

Alice: It's a surprise.

Jennifer: See that? It's a surprise, so you get on upstairs.

Alice: Somehow I get the feeling --

Jennifer: You're right.

Alice: How did you know what I was going to say?

Jennifer: Because you can read my mind. And, yes, you're right. My weekend away with Brandon was not everything that I hoped that it would be. In fact, it was a complete disaster, Gram.

Alice: Jennifer --

Jennifer: No, it's okay. I have no one to blame but myself.

Sami: Jennifer Horton, who prides herself on being honest and straightforward, can't live up to her own mission statement when it comes to men. Once you've got one guy thinking he's got you, you move on to the next and play him a little while, get him all hot and bothered. And then you go find someone else. I mean, right now you've got Jack, Brandon, and Colin all in play, and I have to say how impressed I am at how you're able to keep them all up in the air at the same time.

Jennifer: All of this from a woman who could write a book on playing men.

Sami: Yeah, I pursue the man I want. I choose one man, and then I go after him until I get him.

Jennifer: Oh, like you got Austin?

Sami: Yeah, like I got Austin. And now it's over with, and I'm moving on. And that's where you really have a problem, huh, Jen?

Jack: Why are you even listening to her, Jennifer?

Jennifer: I am all done, actually.

Sami: You know, the thing is, Jen, one of the guys you have juggling is your ex. I mean, you keep telling poor Jack that you want to have nothing else to do with him, and yet you always seem to be where he is. Look at this. Right now. He calls you, and you come running.

Harold: Jack, here's the research you wanted.

Jack: What?

Harold: For the story you were assigned.

Jack: Oh, right, on the meteor showers, yes, yes.

Harold: And if you'll allow me to brag, our illustrious Editor-in-Chief Ms. Jennifer Horton is letting me cover -- drum roll, please -- the National Day of Compassion.

Jack: Well, that's great, Harold. That's great.

Harold: My first story for the "Spectator." She says she was thrilled that I brought it to her attention. And here's the beginning of my rough draft. You ready?

Jack: Go ahead.

Harold: "It's extremely important that we remind everyone that HIV and AIDS are still around and remain a very serious problem, which people must continue to help with in any way they can, by giving money for a cure and/or time and support and loving compassion to people who are suffering with the disease."

Jack: It's an elegant piece of prose, Harold. It's good.

Harold: You think?

Jack: Yes, I do.

Harold: I'm still feeling a little insecure. Look, when I am finished, would you mind proofing it for me?

Jack: Not at all, not at all. Yeah, thanks -- thanks for this excellent research on the meteor showers. Thank you.

Harold: Well, it should be big. The tabloids are predicting a major disaster.

Jack: Hmm.

Harold: What's going on with you?

Jack: Major disaster -- otherwise known as my life.

Jack: You. What do you want?

Colin: Your ex-wife.

Sami: Finally.

Brandon: I do work, you know. What's so urgent that you have to insist that I meet you?

Sami: You set me up, Brandon. You sent Jack and me to that horrible inn where we were forced to play that murder game! It's not funny.

Brandon: Hey, you set me up to set you up. I knew you were going to try to follow me and Jennifer. I had to do something.

Sami: You didn't have to scare me half to death. You know, people who are playing those games are supposed to know they're playing a game. Even psycho Iris and Harry were surprised to find out that we had no idea until Jack was "murdered." And then, of course, to top it all off, Jennifer has to swoop in to rescue Jack.

Brandon: Wait. Jennifer?

Sami: Oh, yeah, and, of course she brings her other boyfriend -- my arrogant Irish cousin from down under.

Brandon: Colin?

Sami: Who else? Wait a second. Jennifer didn't tell you?

Abe: Thank you, thank you. I got an urgent message from my wife. Is she all right? Lexie? Lex, what is it? What is it? Tell me. What --

Lexie: Abe, I'm leaving this horrible place today.

Abe: Lexie, you can't escape again.

Lexie: [Laughing]

Abe: Look, Lexie, I know this is difficult for you, but you have -- you have to try to stay calm and just -- and stay put.

Lexie: No, I dont. I am out of here.

Abe: Lexie, they're not going to let you just walk out of that door like nothing's happened. In time -- in time, I promise you --

Lexie: You really think I'm in fantasy land, don't you? Well, you couldn't be more wrong, Abraham Carver. Dr. Dellman says I am better and can go home.

Dr. Dellman: That's right. Lexie is stable, and she's no longer a danger to herself or others. And she's agreed to intensive outpatient psychotherapy. So I am happy to say I'm releasing her.

Abe: Well, this is all very sudden, doctor. You know, my wife was in very bad shape just a little while ago -- I mean, I'm not saying that she hasn't improved, but...I just --

Lexie: What? You want me to stay locked up in here, don't you?

Jack: Jennifer is not in.

Colin: I'll just wait then.

Jack: No, you wont.

Colin: When are you going to get the message, Jack?

Jack: And the message is?

Colin: Jennifer's finished with you. She was finished with you when I met her in Africa, but she couldn't let go. Is still having a hard time letting go because you have managed to hold on to her with guilt.

Jack: Do tell.

Colin: You follow her everywhere she goes, reminding her of what the two of you had -- note the past tense -- reminding her that you're the father of her child, reminding of her everything except the fact that she doesn't love you anymore.

Jack: And you know this how?

Colin: I know, because Jennifer told me. She opened up her heart to me in Africa. For the first time in her life, she was discovering who she really was, what she really wanted out of life -- separate from you. She was finally growing up. I suggest you try it yourself and let her go. Let her get on with her life.

Colin: Mm.

Sami: You mean Jennifer didn't tell you that she was at the full moon with Jack and Colin? Brandon, I'm really sorry.

Brandon: No, you're not. You're thrilled. You want me to break it off with Jennifer.

Sami: Hey, don't shoot the messenger. Look, I am sorry that you've been hurt. If you, um, need me, give me a call.

Sami: It's time, Brandon. Time to ditch Jen and get on with your life... with me.

Jennifer: Gram, it was an all-out attack, and Sami accused me of juggling Jack and Colin and Brandon to avoid making a commitment, and as much as I hate to admit it, she's right.

Alice: Well, you did commit to one guy, dear.

Jennifer: Yes, Gram, I did. I did commit to Jack, and I know what you're going to say.

Alice: How do you know what I'm going to say?

Jennifer: Because I can read your mind. You're going to tell me to get over my fears and make a decision about one man and commit to him, and I wish that I could do that, but I just don't know --

[Cellular phone rings] [Ring]

Jennifer: Excuse me, Gram. [Ring]

Jennifer: Hello?

Brandon: Hey, it's me.

Jennifer: Hi. I-I was just about to call you to see if we could, uh, set up a time that we could meet and talk.

Brandon: Let's do it now.

Jennifer: Okay.

Brandon: I'll be in the Brady Pub in 20 minutes.

Jennifer: Okay, I'll -- I'll see you there.

Shawn-D: Oh, so we get the boss waiting on us, huh?

Caroline: Oh, you've got that right. Your burgers will be up shortly.

Shawn: Mm-hmm, and don't forget the soda. It's the Brady Pub's best bottle. Vintage year.

Shawn-D: Oh, Grandpa, in that case, I'm going to have to taste it.

Belle: Thank you.

Shawn-D: Oh, that'll be acceptable. We'll keep it.

Shawn: All right.

Belle: You did this, didn't you?

Shawn-D: Yeah, well, I have some clout around here.

Caroline: Ha ha ha. I am so glad that you two are back together again.

Shawn: Now, they didn't come for a group hug.

Caroline: Ha.

Shawn-D: All right.

Caroline: Okay, all right, already. We'd better leave you alone for a while. Bye.

Shawn-D: All right.

Belle: Did you make this?

Shawn-D: Not as impressive as the first one, I know, but I did pretty good for the middle of June, I think.

Belle: It's great.

Shawn-D: I got to tell you something, and I've told you 100 times before, but I have to say it again. I am sorry for everything that happened.

Belle: Shawn, dont. I know you're sorry. You don't have to keep telling me. It doesn't help, for one thing. It doesn't make everything that's happened go away. I just -- I don't want to be reminded.

Abe: I-I don't want you to stay locked up here, Lexie. I'm thrilled you're being released. It's just a bit of a surprise. It all happened so quickly.

Woman: Excuse me. Here are your things, Dr. Carver.

Lexie: Thank you.

Woman: You're welcome.

Abe: So you're packed already, huh?

Lexie: Packed and ready to go.

Dr. Dellman: I'll see you in session tomorrow. Open the door, please, for Dr. Carver and her husband.

Abe: Let's get you home, huh?

Lexie: No.

Abe: No?

Lexie: We need to talk first. Brace yourself. You're not going to like what I have to say.

Belle: Why are you looking at me like that?

Shawn-D: Just a habit. I used to catch myself looking at you after we split up, you know, in class or in the hallways or at .Com -- I don't know, wherever we were, my eyes would just lock on to you or whatever, and I couldn't look away. Oh, I got you something. Here. Actually, I got it a long time ago. It's for graduation.

Belle: Shawn, I didn't get you anything.

Shawn-D: No, that's all right. Why would you, with everything going on? Come on, open it.

Belle: They're so beautiful.

Shawn-D: Whew. Well, I'm hoping that'll remind you of the heart that I put on our snowman.

Belle: That's so sweet.

Shawn-D: Oh, gosh.

Belle: Thank you.

Shawn-D: [Groans] Okay, all right, all right. So, next gift.

Belle: Shawn?

Shawn-D: Yes?

Belle: Sunglasses.

Shawn-D: Yes, and I got myself a matching pair. Can't go to Pepperdine without a cool pair of shades, right?

Belle: So you're going. I thought you decided...

Shawn-D: Not to go? Um, well, I had, and I thought I missed the deadline, too, but my parents knew I wasn't thinking straight, so they sent in my acceptance form for me to save my butt, and in case I came to my senses, which I did. So I decided I'm going to go, give it a shot for a semester or two.

Belle: That's great.

Shawn-D: Yeah. Well, I hear it's relentlessly sunny out there in California, so... okay, look... I know that you're going to Columbia, and I understand, it's because you wanted to get away from me, but I'm hoping that now that we're back together, you'll reconsider. You got accepted to Pepperdine, right? Well?

Belle: Shawn, I'm not going to change my mind. I don't want to go to California with you.

Caroline: Hi, Jennifer. Good to see you.

Jennifer: Caroline, hi. It's good to see you, too.

Caroline: You meeting somebody?

Jennifer: Uh, yes, actually, I am.

Caroline: I think maybe he just arrived.

Jennifer: Yeah, actually, he did.

Caroline: This table's free.

Jennifer: Thank you. Hey.

Brandon: What's going on?

Jennifer: I was, um, just wondering if we could talk about us.

Brandon: There is no us.

Sami: Jack! Time to get it in gear, track down Jennifer, and make your big play for her.

Jack: Not interested.

Sami: Come on, stop kidding around. Let's get going, huh?

Jack: I said I'm not interested and I meant it. I'm not making any more plays for Jennifer. I'm officially out of the game.

Sami: What?

Jack: You heard me. The pursuit is over.

Abe: Well...

Lexie: Thanks, Abe.

Abe: All right. You wanted to talk... so talk.

Lexie: I've decided to seek retribution. I will be suing the hospital.

Abe: No, Lexie, no. That's not going to help anything, for God's sake.

Lexie: The hospital will pay. That'll help me.

Abe: The hospital's not to blame.

Lexie: Oh, and my father is. That's what you're thinking, isn't it? Well, you are dead wrong. Don't accuse me of trying to protect him. In fact, I haven't even seen or heard from Stefano DiMera in months. I have no idea where he is.

Lexie: But you do, don't you?

Abe: John and Roman have reason to believe that Stefano's on the move. He's preparing to return to Salem.

[Doorbell rings]

Bart: You Dellman?

Dr. Dellman: Who are you?

Bart: The person you came to see. Get in here.

Bart: You didn't tell anybody you were coming, right?

Dr. Dellman: Oh, yeah, it's all over the place. Look outside, you'll see it in skywriting.

Bart: You're kidding, right?

Dr. Dellman: Of course I didn't tell anyone. How dumb do you think I am? Where's the money?

Bart: Hey. Hey. Hold it, Mr. Tact. Can't you even make a little polite conversation first?

Dr. Dellman: Just give it to me.

Bart: Okay, Mr. Greed.

Dr. Dellman: That's Dr. Greed to you.

Bart: You are one laugh riot, aren't you, Dellman? Here.

Dr. Dellman: This better be the amount we settled on.

Bart: And you better have done what you were paid to do, buddy.

Dr. Dellman: $1,000... $2,000...

Bart: Hey. Has Dr. Carver been released?

Dr. Dellman: Out of her mind and free as a bird.

Lexie: Well, my suing the hospital has nothing to do with my father, nor have I heard a word about the possibility of his returning to Salem. Look, Abe, I know you've had your concerns about this in the past, but believe me, I am no longer involved with Stefano DiMera in any way.

Bart: So, to re-initiate -- re-intinerate -- anyway, I'm going to say it again -- you tell anybody about this payoff and Stefano DiMera will come at you with a -- what's the word I'm thinking of? Starts with a "V."

Dr. Dellman: Vengeance?

Bart: Vengeance. He'll come at you with a vengeance like you wouldn't believe. Incredulous! Incredible!

Lexie: I assure you, Abe, every action I take, every decision I make will be mine and mine alone. I am in charge of my life now.

We will return for the second half of "Days of Our Lives" in just a moment.

Abe: Lex, um, you know, we -- we need to move on. We need to start working on getting over the loss we've suffered.

Lexie: I feel the same way, which is why I've come to a decision.

Abe: Another decision, huh?

Lexie: I love you. I always will. But... our love has been tested so many times these past few months, Abe. Yes, we should move on, but it won't be easy. And it won't be quick. Damage has been done, and in order to repair it, we're going to need time.

Abe: Why don't you just get to the point, Lexie?

Lexie: I don't think that we should live together right now. I'm not going back home with you.

Shawn-D: So, what you're saying is that you don't want to be with me, you don't want to be close to me.

Belle: No, Shawn. I'm saying that I don't want to go to Pepperdine. When we first got serious, my mom was worried that I was centering my life around you instead of the big picture. She thought I was losing myself, and I just didn't buy into it. Then this whole nightmare with Jan happened, and I thought I was going to die. My mom was right. I lost you, and I didn't know who I was anymore. I love you, Shawn, but I cannot make you my whole life again. I want to be with you, but I want to have my own life, too, and that's why I want to go to Columbia. I need to develop my abilities and my talents so I can figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life, what career I want to pursue separate from you. But during that time, I am not going to stop loving you. And I will miss you and be dying to see you when I come home for a visit -- or when you come visit me. But it will be better that way, because I will be bringing something to us. I will be bringing me. And you'll be doing the same. That is what I want, and I hope you understand.

Jennifer: So, do you want to talk first?

Brandon: This isn't working out, Jennifer -- you and me. We both know it's not. When I first saw you, I was so attracted to you. And I thought that you felt the chemistry, too, and that something could happen. But you wanted to take it slow. And I was fine with that. I knew you were coming off a complicated situation with Jack. I could deal with that. I told you I'd be patient, and I was. But now my patience has run out. Actually, it ran out at the hospital cafeteria when Samantha told me what you did after I left you at the lodge.

Jennifer: What are you talking about, what I did? Brandon, what about what you did? You -- you tricked Jack and set him up to make him think the mob was after him. But you know what? That really isn't the issue here. The issue here is honesty. And we both agreed that we would be open and honest in this relationship, and I don't really know if either one of us has done that. I guess what I want to tell you is that maybe it's better if we don't see each other anymore. You know, I realize that I have been very unfair to you -- and to Jack and to Colin, for that matter. But I have so enjoyed getting to know you and spending time with you. But I don't deserve your attention... or your patience and your understanding, and I guess, to sum it all up, what I'm trying to say is that I'm really messed up, and I need to get my act together right now. And for that, I am sorry. I am truly sorry.

Brandon: Don't be. It's okay, really.

Jennifer: No, it's not okay. [Pager beeps]

Brandon: I have to get back to the hospital.

Jennifer: Okay. Um... I guess I'll just -- I'll see you around then.

Brandon: Jennifer, I have to say this. Jack and Colin -- they don't deserve you. You're way out of their league.

Sami: Okay, I'm going to assume you're just trying to be funny, Jack, and I really wish you'd stop, because, as usual, you're trying too hard, which really makes you very unfunny. That's why I'm not laughing, and that's why you should give up the stand-up comic routine and go find Jennifer!

Jack: Sami, keep your voice down.

Sami: You are wasting my time.

Jack: No, you are wasting your own time, because you can't get it through your thick skull that I'm telling you how I actually feel. And I don't give a damn if you don't feel I should feel how I feel, which is that I have had it!

Sami: With Jennifer?

Jack: Not with Jennifer. With the pursuit of Jennifer. I have used guilt to try and hold on to her, and it's not only wrong, it is pointless. So I'm giving up, surrendering, walking away, conceding.

Sami: Like hell you are.

Abe: So, uh, so you want a separation.

Lexie: Well, you don't have to use that word. Um, I'll get a room at the Salem Inn for now.

Abe: No, Lexie, uh... you shouldn't -- you shouldn't be alone. You shouldn't be living alone, especially now. It's -- you just got out of the hospital.

Lexie: Abe, I'll be okay. Trust me.

Lexie: Brandon!

Brandon: Hey! A friend of mine in psych just paged, told me you were released.

Lexie: Yes! Isn't that great? [Laughs] I'm free, I have my life back, and I am so grateful to you for helping me through it all. Oh, I almost forgot. I promised my mom I'd call her as soon as I got out of that hellhole. Excuse me.

Brandon: It's great, isn't it?

Abe: What?

Brandon: That she's out. She seems to be in a good place.

Abe: Well, if you call living all alone and, uh, suing the hospital a good place.

Brandon: She's going ahead with the lawsuit?

Abe: Apparently so.

Brandon: I told her that would be a mistake.

Abe: Well, obviously she doesn't take all your advice, so that means somebody else must be back in her ear. Gee, I wonder who that could be.

Lexie: Well, my mom's leaving for the inn now, so I should go to meet up with her there.

Abe: All right. I'll drive you.

Lexie: No, thanks. I'll take a cab. Abe, I am perfectly fine, and I am going to prove it by taking care of myself, okay? Okay. Brandon, thanks again.

Abe: She shouldn't live alone. [Pager beeps]

Abe: See you around, Brandon.

Shawn-D: I know why you feel this way, why you want to go to college in New York. Doesn't mean I like it, but I don't want to be apart from you.

Belle: Shawn, there's something else I need to know. I'm going to New York early. I'm going to take some summer courses at Columbia.

Shawn-D: Um, summer courses? Well, um, when you say that you're going to be gone early, how early?

Belle: A couple of weeks.

Caroline: Hi. You okay?

Jennifer: Yeah, I'll be fine, Caroline. Thanks.

Caroline: Oh, honey. Honey, what is wrong?

Shawn-D: So, a few weeks, and you're gone.

Belle: Shawn, I feel bad that I didn't get you a graduation present. I promise, someday I'll make it up to you.

Shawn: Well, how about right now? Ah, you got to grab your stuff.

Belle: Oh. Ha ha.

Shawn-D: Don't leave your purse.

Caroline: I'm here if you need me, dear.

Jennifer: Thank you, Caroline.

Colin: Hey.

Jennifer: What, did you follow me here?

Colin: No, I came for lunch. But I did stop by the "Spectator" hoping to see you. I ran into Jack, and --

Jennifer: Don't you talk to me about Jack. I don't want to discuss him with you. You know what? I don't even want to be sitting here with you right now.

Colin: What? But all --

Jennifer: I mean it. Dont.

Colin: Jennifer, what is the problem?

Sami: What are you, a man or a mouse, Jack? Get your courage together and go back into battle.

Jack: Go away, Sami.

Sami: You can't give up on Jennifer. She's in your blood. She's your passion, Jack. You have no life without her. I mean, look where you are right now -- the "Spectator." Why? Because of Jennifer. Every story you write, she's your inspiration. You have this beautiful little girl at home because of Jennifer. She's your only hope. You're nothing without her.

Bart: Welcome home, foxy lady.

Lexie: What are you doing here?

Bart: What do you mean? Waiting for you. Hey, I heard about your early release. What a lucky break, huh? Oh, and you just missed your shrink.

Lexie: Dr. Dellman?

Bart: Where was that dude when they were handing out senses of humor, huh?

Lexie: Why was he here? Wait a minute. Oh, my God. You paid him off, didn't you?

Bart: As per Rolfsky's instructions right before he left town.

Lexie: Rolf left? Where did he go?

Bart: Wouldn't tell me. All I know is something came up, something big. And right before he let out, he gave me orders to pay off the psychiatrist, get you out of the hospital, and, uh... [Imitating Rolf] To assure you that your father will always be there for you. Touching for a lunatic, huh?

Lexie: Yeah. Oh! Now I get it. Rolf has gone to get him. My father's coming home. Ah ha! Ha ha ha!

Lexie: Ah, my father, he's coming home to help me get my baby back. [Sighs] Okay, the first thing I have to do is start clearing his name. Everyone in Salem thinks he had something with the baby switch. But I am suing the hell out of that hospital. I'll prove that he didn't.

Bart: [British accent] Yeah, baby, you show 'em.

Lexie: We have to be totally discreet about my father's return. No one must know. In fact, from now on I'm going to be in touch with him only by phone. No one is to even know that I stopped by here.

Bart: You're here? I don't even see you.

Lexie: I have to go. My mom's waiting for me.

Bart: Okay. Just give a holler if you need any assistance. I'll be in the secret room cozied up with my music.

Brandon: What's up, Lexie?

Belle: Shawn, wait a second. There's something that I've wanted to say to you since we graduated. I loved all the time we spent together in high school. Actually, I loved all the time we've spent together, just growing up, falling in love. And I know now that we're going our separate ways for a little while out into the world, our love will just get stronger. I do love you, Shawn Brady, and that will never change.

Caroline: I don't know what your nephew Colin said, but he certainly upset Jennifer.

Shawn: It's time I had a talk with him.

Colin: Shawn how's it going?

Shawn: Why don't you tell me?

Colin: Something bothering you?

Shawn: [Chuckles] Colin, I know all about your reputation with women back in Ireland.

Colin: Reputation?

Shawn: Everyone in Salem is very fond of Jennifer, and she's still adjusting to being divorced -- meaning that she is not a girl to be toyed with. Am I making myself clear?

Colin: Very.

Shawn: Well, if you'll excuse me, I have to be getting back to work.

Colin: Don't worry, Uncle Shawn. I have no intention of toying with Jennifer. What I have in mind is very serious.

Sami: You are so full of it, Jack, sitting there acting like you're going to just let the world pass you by.

Jack: I am not letting the world pass me by. I'm just finished making a damn fool out of myself. I am not chasing Jennifer. I am moving on. I'll prove it to you. I'll have a relationship with someone else -- a serious relationship. I'll just forget about Jennifer, and I'll live a life without her.

Sami: Forget the pipe dream, Jack. Every time you look at another woman, you'll see Jennifer. Every time you kiss another woman, you'll be thinking about her.

Jack: I am telling you, no, no. I will prove it to you right now.
