Sami: Well, it's a peace offering. Open it. It's not going to explode.

Brandon: Miles Davis.

Sami: Yeah, they just released it. It's a live recording from the '60S.

Brandon: I know. It got a great review.

Sami: I hope you like it.

Brandon: I'm sure I will. I was going to buy it myself, actually.

Sami: You know, I know I was out of line earlier.

Brandon: You already apologized, Samantha.

Sami: So when do you get off work?

Brandon: About a half an hour ago.

Sami: Do you want to get out of here?

Brandon: Don't you have to get home to will?

Sami: He's actually with my grandparents.

Brandon: And, uh, what about Austin?

Sami: I'm his fiancée, not his prisoner.

Brandon: What did you have in mind?

Sami: The blue note?

Brandon: Sounds good.

Sami: You're really lucky, you know that?

Brandon: Why, because I get to go out with you?

Sami: Ha ha ha. That, too, but because you love your job.

Brandon: And you don't?

Sami: It pays the rent.

Brandon: You need to find a profession you love.

Sami: I have -- being Austin ’s wife. Unfortunately, he's a workaholic, just like you.

Nicole: Turn on the lights, Austin, before you get us both spooked.

Austin: What are you doing here?

Nicole: I was just about to ask you the same question.

Austin: I'm just sorting through some research on Carl Liszt.

Nicole: Mr. PermaLash.

Austin: Yeah, I know how badly you want to land that account, so I'm just catching up.

Nicole: I think we will, with all the background work you did.

Austin: Oh, no. That was that Marilyn Monroe dress you put on. I think that reeled him in, not my nose-in-the-book approach.

Nicole: Well, either way, we impressed him.

Austin: Well, okay, I'll let you get back to work.

Nicole: You're not exactly dressed for the office.

Austin: Yeah, well, I thought this would be after-hours dress code.

Nicole: Tell me something, Austin -- doesn't your fiancée object to you working late?

Fay: Abe?

Abe: Fay. Hi.

Fay: Hi. How come you're sitting in the car? Why don't you come in and have something to eat?

Abe: Oh, I-I was -- I was just heading home.

Fay: The DiMera Mansion?

Abe: Yeah. Can you believe I'm starting to call that place "home"?

Fay: Abe, is everything okay?

Abe: Yeah, I mean, I -- I'll get through it. I mean, we'll get through it -- Lexie and -- Lexie and me. I tell you, sometimes it's just so hard to know the right thing to do.

Fay: Yeah. That's true, especially when it comes to your kids.

Lexie: Oh. Oh, Abe. Ha.

Abe: Oh.

Lexie: Oh, boy, I have a feeling your grandma is going to spoil you.

Abe: Yeah. Celeste really went all out, didn't she?

Lexie: Mm-hmm. boy, she thought of everything.

Abe: So how do you like your room, huh? How do you like it? All right, I'll give you the grand tour. Here we go. Okay, I'll give you the grand tour now. Yeah. Oh, your little cap's coming off. I'll put it right beside you.

Lexie: Ha ha ha.

Abe: There you are. Oh, man, I’d forgotten how little they are.

Lexie: Yeah.

Abe: Look at his tiny hands. It's hard to believe he's going to grow up to be a basketball player, isn't it? Ha ha ha.

Lexie: Aw.

Abe: Yeah. He's perfect. He's just perfect. Yes, you are. You're so gorgeous. Can't wait till we run around, huh? Yeah. Oh, you know what? Your Uncle Theo will be so proud of you, little Isaac Theo. Yes, he will. Ha ha ha ha. You know what? He nodded off. He nodded off again. He was awake just long enough for us to pick out a name.

Lexie: Oh. And to think I had to twist your arm to adopt this baby.

Abe: Yeah, well, thank God I have a very -- a very wise and very persistent wife.

Lexie: And I have a husband whose heart is growing by leaps and bounds. I love you.

Abe: Mm. This is the best thing that ever happened to us.

Lexie: Yeah.

Abe: You know, the minute I saw this little guy and held him in my arms, I knew it was right. We have ourselves a real family.

Fay: Abe? What is it? Not something to do with Isaac.

Abe: I -- I may lose him. There's not a damn thing I can do about it.

Bo: Mickey, as our lawyer and friend, I'm asking you not to say anything to anyone about this.

Mickey: Well, no, of course not. I'm bound legally not to discuss what you tell me with anybody, not even my wife. But, look, if I’m going to help you, legally or otherwise, you're going to have to start at the beginning and tell me the whole thing.

Hope: Uncle Mickey, the only thing you need to know is that I can't lose my son. Nobody is going to take him away from me. [Jazz music playing]

Brandon: Are you sure Austin ’s okay with this -- you hanging out in clubs with other guys?

Sami: I already told you, Brandon, he's working late tonight. He's not going to be home for another hour, and I'm glad, because it gives me a chance to spend some time with you.

Brandon: Now, why would you want to do that?

Sami: Because you're my best buddy. You know me really well, and you make me be straight with myself. I like that.

Brandon: Fair enough. Okay, best buddy, where would you like to sit?

Sami: How about there?

Brandon: Way over there? If I didn't know better, I'd say you wanted to hide.

Sami: No, I just want to have some privacy. Come on.

Brandon: Here. Allow me.

Sami: Oh. Why, thank you. So, Brandon, what do you want to talk about?

Brandon: Anything but me.

Sami: That's no fun.

Brandon: I meant what I said before, Samantha -- from now on, my personal life is off-limits.

Abe: So the night Isaac was born, three other women gave birth at university hospital, and now someone is claiming that the baby we took home is not the right one.

Fay: Oh, my God.

Abe: Two of the babies may have been switched in the nursery... Which means that Lexie and I may lose the legal rights to our son.

Fay: Oh. Abe, I’m so sorry. Is there anything I can do to help you?

Abe: You know, being here with you and hearing your voice -- that helps a lot. So how about you? I mean, you look like you have troubles of your own.

Fay: Actually, my, um... Troubles have to do with a child, too, only... She's not a baby anymore.

Abe: Nicole?

Fay: Yeah. It's all my fault. Terrible things have happened to her, and I should have stopped him.

Abe: Stopped him?

Fay: But I couldn't have stopped him, because I didn't know. Oh, God. How could I not have known? What the hell was the matter with me?

Nicole: Thank you.

Austin: You're welcome.

Nicole: Oh. Two sugars? How'd you know?

Austin: I pay attention.

Nicole: Ha ha. What else have you noticed about me?

Austin: You really want to know?

Nicole: Uh, not so much now.

Austin: I think you can be a gentle person.

Nicole: Okay, don't go soft on me, Austin.

Austin: But you don't let people see that side of you because you're afraid of getting hurt.

Nicole: Maybe you should turn your attention to Aaron Walter. He was just recently transferred down to San Diego from the company that you just investigated. He likes me, apparently. So use my name when you call him to ask for his projections for next year. Do whatever it takes to get the information we need.

Austin: I'm disappointed.

Nicole: Why?

Austin: For a millisecond, we were starting to talk about something other than business. You were -- you were opening up a bit.

Nicole: Well, now the door is closed again.

Austin: Why? What are you afraid of?

Hope: I don't care what the court says, what some scientist sees underneath the microscope -- I am J.T.’s mother. Bo's his father, and we love him. We raised him, we fought for him, and that makes us his parents.

Mickey: I agree -- I mean, biology isn't everything. Even if the tests prove that J.T.’s not your biological child, you still have a real chance to retain custody.

Hope: A chance? Uncle Mickey, you're talking about our little boy like he's some kind of property being offered up in a lottery. My God -- ooh, I can't take this anymore.

Bo: Hope, hope, no.

Hope: Bo, I can't listen to any more of this.

Bo: Mickey's on our side.

Hope: You're agreeing with him.

Bo: No, look, we can't run from the truth.

Hope: Let go of me.

Bo: No.

Hope: Bo.

Bo: It's okay. I know. I know.

Marlena: If you're not J.T.’s biological father, does that mean someone could have tampered with the DNA test?

John: Believe me, I've been thinking about that. I don't care what it costs, Mickey.

Nicole: Come on, Austin, you should know me by now. I'm not afraid of anything -- personally or professionally. Whatever comes at me, I meet it head-on.

Austin: Hey, what about Nicky?

Nicole: Who?

Austin: I mean, well, that's what Brandon calls you. I remember when we all lived at victor's together.

Nicole: Well, Brandon is my brother. He's the only one who knows everything that I’ve been through, and he's the only one who uses that name.

Austin: I just think it's sad that not too many people get to see that side of you, that's all.

Nicole: Why?

Austin: Because I don't think Nicky comes out fighting. I think Nicky’s all heart and laughs and kicks her feet up and knows how to play, you know? I think it'd be healthier if Nicky, you know, could expand her circle of friends.

Nicole: You make it sound like I have some kind of split personality.

Austin: I don't know. I think we all do, to some degree, you know? I mean, well, there's me at work and then there's me with will, and I play, you know. I wouldn't trade either one of them. I like them both, just like I like Nicole Walker and chief operating officer, you know, faster than a speeding lawsuit, able to close huge deals in a single morning.

Nicole: Superbitch. Is that what you're saying?

Austin : Ha ha ha. No, no -- not at all. No, really, I like Nicole, but doesn't Nicky get lonely sometimes? I mean, doesn't she need a -- you know, a friend she could trust, kick back with?

Sami: Look, I know that I was wrong to gossip about your love life, and I won't break my promise. I won't discuss any of your girlfriends with anyone, ever. If you insist on dating someone who's completely wrong for you, I'll only discus it with you.

Brandon: You just don't get it, do you?

Sami: What, so I'm never supposed to tell you how I feel?

Brandon: Right. You're never supposed to tell me how you feel, especially not about Jennifer and me.

Sami: Okay, so answer me this -- how is someone supposed to be a friend if they don't tell the other person that they think he's going to get hurt? Brandon, I just want you to be happy -- as happy as I am.

Brandon: And Jennifer may be the one to make me happy.

Sami: Oh, please.

Brandon: Why won't you stop?

Sami: Look, is it a crime to be opinionated?

Brandon: And stubborn and demanding and impossible.

Sami: Look, Brandon, I know it's not easy to be my friend, but you've always accepted me for who I am. Don't stop now. Don't end our friendship because of one stupid, crazy mistake that I made.

Fay: Nicole was the one who suffered the most from what he did -- her own father.

Abe: What did he do to her?

Fay: I was such a fool -- a blind fool.

Abe: Fay, it's over now.

Fay: No, Abe, it's not over. It's not over for her. I should have -- I should have protected her. I should have... stopped him.

Abe: Hey, uh... How long till your shift starts?

Fay: I don't know. Maybe, uh, 15 minutes, something likes that.

Abe: Tell you what. It's cold out, so, uh... You stay right here in the car, and I'm going to get you some hot coffee, and we'll talk, huh?

Fay: Thanks, Abe. I appreciate it.

Abe: I'll be back in a minute.

Fay: Okay.

Fay: I'm so sorry I let you down. I am so sorry.

Bo: Why don't you sit down?

Hope: J.T. is ours. He's ours, Bo. Our little guy.

Bo: Yeah. I feel the same way. You know I do. But we have that court order -- tells us we have to get a DNA test.

Hope: What if the results go against us, though? What if they prove that I'm not his biological mother?

Bo: We'll do everything we can to retain custody.

Hope: Before I agree to anything, you have to promise me something -- that you won't let anyone take him away from us.

Sami: Brandon, I said I was sorry, and I meant it. Date whoever you want, and I will just grin and bear it. Great.

Brandon: What?

Sami: Oh, the "I'm so fed up with you" look.

Brandon: Well, you should be used to it by now.

Sami: Am I really that much of a pain in the --

Brandon: No, I've already told you I forgive you, all right? Everything's fine.

Sami: Well, I promise I will be an angel from here on out.

Brandon: Hey, don't go making promises you can't keep.

Sami: You don't think I can change?

Brandon: I don't want you to change. Well, a little tweaking here and there, but -- I still accept you for who you are, or were.

Sami: "Were"?

Brandon: Since you've gotten serious with Austin again, you seem to be cultivating this suburban matron vibe that's not the Samantha I know.

Sami: Are you calling me a phony?

Brandon: Just don't push the real Samantha too far back in the closet, all right? You may never find her again.

Sami: And who, exactly, is the real Samantha?

Brandon: A straight shooter with a great sense of humor, a rebel who doesn't back down from a fight, a woman who used to come here and dance with me.

Sami: That doesn't have to change.

Brandon: Hey, you're getting married.

Sami: Well, you make it sound like a death sentence.

Brandon: Well, in a way, maybe it is.

Sami: What?

Brandon: When you commit to something, it means leaving other things behind. You know, like a part of you have to die so another can start living.

Sami: It doesn't have to be that way.

Brandon: Yeah, well, meet me here in five years and show me I'm wrong.

Sami: I'll show you now.

Brandon: What are you doing?

Sami: You are going to come dance with me. Come on.

Austin: Come on. Just do it.

Nicole: What?

Austin: Just be Nicky, just for half an hour. Half a minute.

Nicole: Maybe you should go back to your office and continue preparing our bid for the PermaLash buyout.

Austin: Fine, fine. Okay, can you do me a favor? When you see Nicky, can you tell her I said hello?

Nicole: Good night, Austin.

Austin: Wow, man. It must be lonely in there all by yourself.

Nicole: Hey, don't push it.

Austin: All right, no. I'm outta here. I'm gone. I'm -- I got work to do.

Nicole: I saw my mom tonight.

Austin: Really? How is she?

Nicole: Pathetic.

Austin: Why?

Nicole: Because she still thinks my father is a saint. She claims he was beautiful and misunderstood, even when I showed her --

Austin: Showed her what?

Nicole: Nothing. Forget it.

Austin: I mean, that's easy for me to say. I mean, I've never met the guy. But what about you, Nicky? I mean, can you forget it?

Nicole: What did I tell you, Austin? Only Brandon calls me Nicky.

Austin : Oh, I’m -- I'm not going to try to take his place.

Nicole: Well, you couldn’t. No one could.

Austin: Oh, you know, I know. I've been in the ring with that guy, man. He is -- whew -- lethal. No one is going to mess with you as long as he's around to protect you. Okay, what about signing me on as a friend?

Nicole: That could work -- maybe.

Austin: It's worth a shot.

Mickey: Look, the sooner we have all the facts about it, then we'll know what we're up against.

Marlena: And no matter what the DNA test results are, we are going to fight this.

Hope: Okay. Okay, we'll do it.

Mickey: Okay. I'll make the arrangements. I'm going to call some private investigators, get them on the case, look into Glen's background.

Hope: Do whatever it takes to help us keep our son -- anything.

Mickey: May I use the phone in the kitchen?

Hope: Of course.

Bo: Yeah, sure, go ahead.

Mickey: Thank you.

John: Thanks, Mickey.

Marlena: You're doing the right thing.

Hope: How are we going to get through this?

Marlena: Together... The way we've gotten through everything.

Sami: So are you still worried that I’m going to be turning into a stuffy old matron?

Brandon: Just make sure you get what you want out of life. That's all I’m saying.

Sami: Oh, right, like I’m going to be prowling the suburbs in my minivan.

Brandon: Mm-hmm, pregnant with your fifth child...

Sami: Aah!

Brandon: Mixed out with your credit cards.

Sami: Ha! Stop it. Now I'm getting depressed.

Brandon: Relax, relax, it'll never happen. You're different. You always have been.

Sami: Good different?

Brandon: Very good.

Sami: I miss being with you, Brandon.

Brandon: Well, we're committed to different things right now.

Sami: What are you committed to?

Brandon: My job.

Sami: Oh, yes, the eternal workaholic.

Brandon: And my family -- what's left of it.

Sami: And I am committed to my son and marrying Austin and being a good friend to you.

Brandon: Well, you know where to find me.

Sami: I bet you'll be dancing with someone else.

Brandon: That's the way it has to be, all right?

Brandon: Well -- ahem. I'm ready for a drink. How about you?

Sami: Definitely. Sure.

Brandon: I'll, um, find our waiter. Have a seat.

Man: Now, you're a great dancer.

Sami: Excuse me?

Man: I-I saw you out there dancing with your boyfriend.

Sami: Oh, he's not my boyfriend.

Man: Glad to hear it. You're a knockout.

Sami: Ha.

Man: I guess everyone tells you that.

Sami: Well, you're pretty easy on the eyes yourself. What's your name?

Man: Scott.

Sami: I'm Samantha. It's nice to meet you.

Scott: Do you mind if I join you?

Sami: Well, sure, I --

Brandon: This seat is taken.

Sami: Brandon.

Scott: Who the hell are you?

Brandon: I'm her guardian angel. Get lost.

Sami: He was just being friendly.

Brandon: And how would Austin feel if he knew you were out flirting with strangers while he's off working his fingers to the bone?

Abe: Feeling better?

Fay: Yeah. You always were so kind to me, Abe... when I first met you.

Abe: You know, you didn't trust cops much back then.

Fay: Any man, really -- but you were different. You cared.

Abe: I still do. I will always be honest and open with you, Fay.

Fay: Abe, then -- I need to know. When we were together, did you... Really love me?

Marlena: Just take this one day at a time. J.T. is here, he's safe with you now. That's all that matters.

John: What'd you find out?

Mickey: Well, I’m assembling the best legal team in the state to make sure all the bases are covered.

Bo: What's the next step?

Mickey: Well, all the parties will show up at the lab, samples will be taken from J.T. and Glen.

[Knock on door]

Bo: Excuse me.

Bo: Hey, Roman.

Roman: Hey. I need to talk to you. I don't want to interrupt anything.

Bo: No, no, no. Come on in. What's going on?

Roman: Well, I went by to talk to Abe and Lexie.

Marlena: They must be terrified.

Roman: Abe's trying to handle it, but the minute I tried to speak with Lexie about the possibility of a baby switch, she freaked out -- started screaming and yelling, told me to get out.

Hope: What did you expect? There was no baby switch. Aren't any of you getting that?

Roman: Hope, the last thing I want to do is upset you.

Hope: Pay Glen money, uncle Mickey. Anything, I don't care. Sell the house. Just get rid of him. Just get rid of him.

Roman: I'm sorry.

Bo: No, no, it's okay. Listen, I got -- can you stick around for a minute?

Roman: No, I need to be getting home. But listen, don't you even think about coming by work tomorrow, okay? I can handle things at the station, at least till we get the results of these DNA tests.

Bo: All right. Thanks.

Roman: Okay.

Mickey: I have contacted some investigators I’ve worked with in the past, but I'd like you to speak with them, too.

John: Sure. Let's use the phone in the kitchen.

Roman: [Sighs] so how are you doing?

Marlena: I'm coping.

Roman: Have you said anything to Sami or Belle?

Marlena: No, not yet. I know we have to tell them. I'm just not sure how we're going to do that.

Sami: Stop acting like I’m trying to pick up on guys. I was going to give Scott Nicole’s phone number. You would love Brandon’s sister Nicole Walker. She likes to dance, she's a knockout and exciting, and she's got this high-powered job.

Scott: she has burned me once already. She's definitely not available.

Brandon: Yeah, well, neither is Samantha.

Scott: Yeah, I get the message. It's my loss.

Brandon: What the hell was that all about?

Sami: Oh, come on. He's cute, and he's got good clothes and a sexy voice. I mean, why shouldn't Nicole get out and have some fun?

Brandon: You don't know anything about him, and if you think Nicky’s into blind dates, you don't know anything about her, either.

Sami: Oh, come on. I'm sure she wouldn't mind being set up with a cutie like Scott.

Brandon: You're just worried about Nicky spending too much time with Austin .

Sami: I trust Austin completely.

Brandon: And Nicole?

Sami: No, I think that she wouldn't hesitate to destroy Austin ’s career just to get at me. I know what she can be like when she holds a grudge, and I know she's got a big one against me.

Brandon: Look, Nicole’s not interfering in your life anymore. Do the same. Leave her alone, you know? And you don't have to worry about Austin . He's not Nicky’s type at all.

Sami: Yes, but he might be her next victim.

Austin: Yeah, I saw you at the diner with your mother. The tension between the two of you and the distance -- man.

Nicole: It's always been just Brandon and me. He's my family.

Austin : You know, I hope one day you're going to find someone, and you're going to experience the type of love that I have with Sami.

Nicole: I lost my angel's wings years ago, so I’m not sure what this is worth, but if you feel that Sami is the person you need to feel complete or whatever, then you have my blessing. You're a good guy, Austin , and you deserve to be happy.

Austin : Thanks. That means a lot.

Abe: I loved you. It was real.

Fay: I loved you, too. Just... didn't have the courage to follow my heart.

Abe: Well, that's all in the past. Forgive yourself, Fay.

Fay: I can’t. I needed to protect my children, and I didn't. Now it's too late.

Marlena: How do you think this will all turn out?

Roman: Well, if hope is J.T.’s natural mother, no problem. She'll keep him.

Marlena: What if she isn't?

Roman: I think Mickey can answer that better than I can.

Mickey: Glen would sue for custody.

Marlena: Could he win?

Mickey: Depends on the judge. Some like to side with biology, but Glen's not the most stable guy around.

Marlena: He's a kidnapper.

Mickey: But of someone who may turn out to be his own son. Then he brought the child back of his own volition.

Marlena: Are you defending him?

Mickey: I'm trying to prepare you for what may lie ahead for us.

Roman: Cameron Reese is Glen's attorney. She's out for blood.

Marlena: This is surreal.

John: No, I’m afraid it's very real, Doc, and if his DNA tests go against them, Bo and Hope are going to have to fight like hell to keep J.T.

Marlena: What about the other child? What if it turns out that Isaac is hope's baby?

Bo: J.T.'s asleep.

Hope: You checked on him?

Bo: Mm-hmm. Just now.

Hope: Me too, a couple minutes ago. I'm so scared.

Bo: Yeah, I know. Okay.

Hope: [Sobbing]

Bo: We're going to fight this together.

Hope: I don't feel very much like I’m fighting right now. I just want to grab J.T., and I want to run away.

Bo: Yeah, I know. We can't run from this. We can't. We owe J.T. that much.

Hope: Find Stefano. That's the fastest way to the truth. You know, he's -- he's just wanted to ruin my life ever since I was a teenager. You know, that's what this is really all about -- just another one of his sick games.

Bo: The thing I don't understand is Lexie. Why would he hurt his own daughter that way?

Hope: Oh, Bo, do you really think he'd care? There's been no baby switch. I know I said that I would go through with a DNA test, but I don't know if I can. I mean, there's got to be some other ways we can make this all go away. Bo, please help us. Help us find a way. Please.

Brandon: You really are paranoid, Samantha. The only thing Nicky has planned for Austin is a raise in salary. She's his boss; she likes his work, end of story.

Sami: Okay, what if she tries to seduce Austin , and when he says no, she destroys his career?

Brandon: What planet are you living on?

Sami: Planet Nicky, and trust me, it's a very cold and dark place.

Nicole: So when's the wedding?

Austin : We haven't set a date yet.

Nicole: Well, when the time's right, you'll know.

Austin : For what it's worth, I think the worst times are behind you. Good times ahead.

Nicole: Let's hope.

Austin : Yeah. Um, okay. Well, good night... Nicky.

Nicole: Good night, Austin . Thank you.

Fay: A mother's duty is to protect her children, and I failed... miserably.

Abe: No. No, that's not true. You know, all those years Paul was in prison, you raised three children as a single parent, and you gave them the foundation from which they went on to lead meaningful lives. Brandon's a counselor, Nicole’s a COO of a major corporation, and your youngest is about to graduate from college.

Fay: You always did see the best in me, Abe. Thank you.

Abe: Yeah. I guess I better get home. Yeah, Lexie, uh... She shouldn't be by herself at a time like this.

Fay: Of course. Thank you. You're the finest man I know, Abe. I'll pray for you and your family. Thanks.

Roman: Damn, Abe and Lexie waited a long time to have that child. If they lose that little boy...

John: Mickey, what if this is true? What if these babies were switched?

Mickey: Then God helps us.

Hope: You've always been my hero, Brady. You've saved my life more times than I can even remember. I need your help now, please. Save me, save our son. Yes, ours -- it's our son. J.T. doesn't belong to anybody else but us.

Bo: Wishing doesn't make it so.

Hope: That's all I have -- that and my faith in you. I know you can keep them from taking our son. I know you can. Please. Please. Please.
