Rick: Hope needs this, Mom.

Caroline: And so do you, Rick.

Brooke: You can't stand to see your sister hurting. Neither can I.

Rick: But she is, and it's my fault. (Sighs) I have to tell Hope that I lied, even if it wrecks our relationship. She has to know. No matter what happens, it can't be any worse than what she's feeling right now.

Hope: (Sniffles) (Sniffles)

Katie: What are you still doing here?

Bill: Where should I be?

Katie: You're not needed at the office?

Bill: Are you trying to get rid of me?

Katie: I'm just wondering how Will and I got so lucky.

Bill: Well, it's the holidays. I'm giving all the little Cratchits some time off from Mr. Scrooge.

Katie: I'm sure they'll be overjoyed.

Bill: (Chuckles)

Katie: I'm just glad to have you all to myself.

Rick: I thought that Hope would get over Liam. (Sighs)

Brooke: She hasn't... (sighs) and that breaks my heart. But, Rick, Liam and Steffy are together now.

Rick: Yeah, and telling her the truth might not change that. But at least she'll know what really happened-- that Steffy and Liam never made out that night.

Caroline: You thought that she'd move on.

Rick: I knew that it was a lie. (Sighs)

Brooke: We'll tell her together.

Rick: No. No. You didn't have anything to do with this. Neither did you. (Sighs) I'll do it myself.

Bill: Get a call?

Katie: I was just thinking of texting your niece.

Bill: Caroline? Why?

Katie: Yeah. She, um, offered to babysit, and I thought I might take her up on it.

Bill: Well, you know, she's busy with the Forrester showdown. Why don't you just call the baby nurse? (Sighs)

Katie: We wouldn't be that long--just dinner. You know, if you're thirsty, we have water.

Bill: I'm good.

Katie: Mm. (Chuckles) A-another one already?

Bill: Why not?

Katie: Well, I-I know you can hold your liquor, but we're--we're gonna go out. I wish you wouldn't.

Bill: Okay. Talk to me about dinner.

Katie: Well, I haven't made any specific plans, but I just thought, you know, Caroline would love to babysit. It would mean a lot to her.

Bill: Yeah, I don't know about that. I'm starting to question that girl's priorities. She's spending a lot of her time with Rick, and... I don't know. I just wonder how connected she really wants to be to this family.

Katie: Oh, no. What did you do?

Brooke: Telling the truth doesn't always turn out the way you expect.

Rick: I know. I'm not kidding myself here. I know Hope's gonna be furious.

Brooke: All the more reason for me to tell her with you.

Rick: No. No.

Brooke: Rick, you're not the only one who's been keeping this secret. I'd like to explain.

Caroline: You were one of Liam's biggest supporters.

Brooke: Yes, I was hoping it would work out for them. (Sighs) But they got stuck in a cycle, and they kept hurting each other. So much drama-- it's really not healthy. They're just too young.

Rick: But still, this is between Hope and me, no one else.

Caroline: You're not gonna tell her about my uncle?

Rick: If your uncle Bill wants to admit what he did, that's his call, not mine, but I am taking responsibility for my own actions.

Brooke: I don't think there's any reason to ruin Liam's relationship with his father.

Rick: I don't want to cause any trouble for Caroline and her family.

Caroline: Thank you.

Rick: But just promise me that you'll be there for Hope if she needs you.

Caroline: Yeah, of course. Of course. Play your cards right, I might even put in a good word for you.

Rick: (Chuckles)

Caroline: (Chuckles) I don't think it's gonna come to that.

Rick: I told my sister a lie. I tricked her into giving up, giving up the man that she loves. There's no way I can make that okay, but I can definitely try to make it right.

Brooke: You were trying to protect her. That's what big brothers do.

Rick: I know. I know, but I'm not gonna sit here and--and make excuses to try to justify it.

Caroline: No, hey, Hope is very forgiving, okay? She'll understand-- maybe not immediately.

Rick: Well, there's only one way to find out.

Hope: Hey. I didn't think you guys would still be here. Everything okay?

Rick: I was-- I was just coming up to see you.

Hope: Is something wrong? You were talking about me, weren't you? (Chuckles)

Brooke: Your brother has something he wants to discuss.

Hope: Is--is--is it about the collection? I know. I'm not pulling my weight. I know.

Rick: No.

Hope: I'm trying to get excited about it. I really am. It's just, you know, it's--it's hard.

Caroline: We know.

Brooke: You had your mind on other things.

Hope: Yeah. Liam.

Rick: That's what I wanted to talk to you about.

Hope: There's nothing you can tell me that I, you know, haven't been telling myself. I should be over him by now, and I'm getting there.

Brooke: No, that's not it.

Hope: I'll do better.

Caroline: Hey, you were fine. We were-- we were very productive today.

Hope: No, I was distracted. I was. And--and if we want to win this showdown, we all have to be at the top of our game, and I'm not. I'm not, but that's changing. It is. You'll see. I've been working on some ideas, and they're-- they're just upstairs. I'll go get them.

Rick: You--wait.

Hope: No, I-I think they're good. I do.

Brooke: I'm sure they are.

Rick: Mom, can we, uh... (clears throat) can we have a minute?

Brooke: Take as long as you need. Caroline?

Hope: Um, if you want to look at what I've been working on, they're just up on my bed.

Caroline: Thanks.

Hope: Yeah. (Sighs) Okay. Whatever it is you have to say, lay it on me.

Katie: Did you say something to Caroline that upset her? You know, you can't just say everything you want and call it honesty. Sometimes it hurts.

Bill: I didn't do anything to Caroline.

Katie: You didn't hurt her feelings?

Bill: Logans get their feelings hurt. Spencers butt heads.

Katie: Did you butt heads?

Bill: I expressed my concern.

Katie: About her priorities?

Bill: Look, it's one thing to talk about what family means to you. It's another thing to show it. I need to see some commitment from Caroline.

Katie: She's been busy at Forrester, and she and Rick are getting closer.

Bill: You want to go out tonight? I would love to. So I will book the baby nurse for Will.

Katie: Caroline deserves a chance.

Bill: She has to earn her chances with me.

Katie: Is--is this about me? Because, seriously, my friendship with Caroline is fine. She hasn't been by in a while, but I understand.

Bill: (Sighs) She's a Spencer, Katie. I have to see that that means something.

Will: (Fusses)

Katie: Oh. All right. I'm gonna go check on the boy.

Bill: (Sighs)

(Cell phone rings)

Caroline: (Sighs)

(Ring)

Caroline: (Scoffs) It's my uncle.

(Ring)

Brooke: Aren't you going to answer it?

(Ring)

Caroline: He can leave a message if he hasn't already filled up my mailbox.

Brooke: Don't you think we should warn him?

Caroline: He'd go ballistic if he even knew I was here.

Brooke: He doesn't want you telling Hope.

Caroline: He doesn't want anybody even talking to Hope, not about Liam or Rick's lie. He just think it's better if she doesn't know the truth.

Brooke: Well, I guess we're gonna find out if he's right.

Rick: Hope, I'm... (sighs) you know, I'm not gonna lay into you.

Hope: I'm sorry I've been so distracted.

Rick: No, everybody knows what you've been going through.

Hope: Uh, and I-I don't want people feeling sorry for me. I don't. I-I'm gonna be okay. I will. And this--this competition is really good for me, you know? It's--it's getting my mind off of things. It's gonna help me focus on something else.

Rick: Yeah, well, if that was all you needed, you would already be over Liam.

Hope: I'm not deluding myself. He's with Steffy. I know it's over.

Rick: Maybe for him, but--but not for you.

Hope: (Sighs) I am letting it go. I am. It's just--it's harder than I thought it would be. It's a lot of memories, and there are a lot of questions that I still have... (scoffs) mainly "how did this happen?" And "how did we get here?" And "is there anything that I could have done?"

Rick: You made your decision based on what you knew.

Hope: It still gets to me. I mean, how could I have been so wrong about Liam? I-I'll never... ever understand that.

Bill: (Sighs)

(Flashback)

Caroline: Liam deserves to know the truth, and Hope, too. This could change everything for them if Hope knew that Rick told Othello to lie to her and that nothing happened between Liam and Steffy. I haven't told her yet. But that doesn't mean that I won't.

(Present time)

Katie: Back to sleep, warm and dry. So what were we talking about? Caroline.

Bill: Forget it.

Katie: You're upset with her.

Bill: (Sighs) I'm disappointed.

Katie: You haven't said why. You don't want to talk about it?

Bill: It ticks me off.

Katie: Yeah, I can tell. Maybe you might feel better if you tell me what's going on. I mean, if you're having issues with your niece, then I should know about it. She's a friend of mine.

Bill: She's a friend of Hope's, too.

Katie: Is that a problem?

Bill: It could be, if she doesn't learn to let up.

Katie: Let up on what?

Bill: Hope and Liam, this idea that they still have a chance.

Katie: She feels bad for Hope. We all do.

Bill: She needs to back off. Telling Hope to hang on because there might be a chance for them, it--it isn't helping anyone. You need to talk to her.

Katie: Me?

Bill: She won't listen to me. You need to remind her her first priority is to-- is to her family.

Katie: Okay. I can do that. But then you have to do something for me. Relax, all right? Caroline does not need to take a blood oath to watch our son.

Bill: (Sighs)

Katie: She's not gonna hurt Liam by being friends with Hope. The world isn't gonna fall apart if you're not standing underneath it to hold it up. Please, just stop trying to control everything. Caroline is her own person. She's gonna make her own choices. And there is nothing she can say or do that's gonna harm our family.

Caroline: The truth was always gonna come out, Brooke.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Caroline: But at least way, Rick gets a chance to explain himself.

Brooke: He's not all that certain she'll ever understand.

Caroline: Oh, I think she will. You know, yeah, it may take some time, and she's gonna be very hurt and really upset.

Brooke: Another betrayal by somebody she loves.

Caroline: You really don't believe that she'll be able to forgive him?

Brooke: She hasn't been able to talk to anybody lately. Ridge isn't around, and I've been really busy with my life and Stephanie.  Rick's always been there for her even when he was overseas. He would be there, and he would talk to her and support her through things. And... she would confide in him about Liam. Even if he tells her this, she may understand, but she may never, ever be able to rely on him the same way.

Caroline: But if telling her the truth gives her another chance with Liam...

Brooke: Do you really think that'll happen?

Caroline: I don't know.

Brooke: He is your cousin. You've seen him with Steffy. You talk.

Caroline: He misses your daughter. He didn't stop loving her. And he's only with Steffy because Hope told him that it was over. But if Hope changes her mind...

Brooke: Maybe Liam will change his.

Rick: You're not the one that made the bad decisions, Hope.

Hope: (Sighs) Sometimes I beat myself up because I do still love him. But I know there has to be some kind of certain moral standard in a relationship, and Liam just can't live up to that.  But, I mean, don't worry, because this isn't going to affect my work at all. I will get it together.

Rick: No, no, I'm not worried about your work.

Hope: Okay, well, I-I'll be fine. I'll be okay.

Rick: No, you're struggling. You're struggling because you miss him.

Hope: I miss the man that I thought he was.

Rick: (Sighs) Hope, do you remember... do you remember what I said... about Liam... what happened with him and Steffy the night before your--

Hope: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I remember that. I will never forget that.

Rick: Well, there's something that you need to know about that night.

Hope: I know everything. We don't need to rehash that.

Rick: No, you don't know everything. You asked Othello if Liam and Steffy crossed the line.

Hope: And he said they did.

Rick: No, actually, I said that they did.

(Flashback)

Hope: Do you know something?

Rick: They made out in the corner of the club, and they went upstairs to a cabana.

Hope: (Sighs) I wish I could say I'm surprised.

Rick: If you're gonna confront either one of them--

Hope: Oh, you bet I will.

Rick: I'm not trying to stop you. I just--you know, I'm asking if you could protect the source, because technically, Othello didn't say it. I did.

Hope: So this is true?

Othello: I'm sorry, Hope, but yes.

(Present time)

Hope: How could he do that to me? How could he do that to me? I was so sure about him. I was so sure about the man he was and about the husband that he would be, and I was so wrong. I mean, I-I don't--I don't want to be with a man who would make out with his ex-wife the night before he is supposed to marry me. So that's it. I mean, that's the breaking point. If Liam could do something like that to me--

Rick: He didn't. He didn't, Hope. I lied. Liam never made out with Steffy. (Sniffles) I made that up, and I should have told you a long time ago. And I'm so sorry. Liam never betrayed you.
