Brooke: You said your appointment with Dr. Meade went okay.

Katie: Ah, it--it was fine.

Brooke: So you just went straight there and came straight back?

Katie: Well, the nurse asked me if I wanted to stop and get something to eat, but I... didn't.

Brooke: You just wanted to come straight home and see Will.

Will: (Coos)

Brooke: Right? See, he's happy to see you. You are, aren't you? That's right. Mommy's home. (Chuckles) Come on, Katie. Come on down here and play with Will.

Will: (Cooing)

Brooke: What is all that noise you're making? What is all that noise?

Liam: Thank you.

Bill: Bring me up to speed, you and Steffy. Go.

Liam: Go?

Bill: You said she's here. She's not.

Liam: Oh, y--no, no. Well, there's a change of plan. She got a--she got a call from Stephanie. I don't know, I got the feeling something's going on.

Stephanie: (Sighing)

(Door opens)

Steffy: Hello? Hello?

Stephanie: (Coughs) Oh, my gosh. That was fast.

Steffy: Well, when you called, it sounded important. Hi.

Stephanie: Oh, hi, Honey. Mm.

Steffy: How are you?

Stephanie: I'm okay. I have something for you.

Steffy: What's the occasion?

Stephanie: Oh, it's, uh, just kind of a family celebration, a little family get-together.

Steffy: Oh. Well, what is it? What--what's going on?

Stephanie: Um, Steff... (Sighs) My cancer's come back.

Steffy: The cancer's back?

Stephanie: Mm-hmm.

Steffy: And that's why you've been coughing.

Stephanie: Mm-hmm.

Steffy: It's not--no-- it's not yo--

Stephanie: Mm-hmm.

Steffy: You're not--um.

Stephanie: Mm-hmm.

Steffy: (Crying) No. No, you're not dying.

Steffy: (Sniffles)

Steffy: Tell me what I can do.

Stephanie: I'm afraid there isn't anything that you can do, okay? I know that's hard for a woman like you. (Sighs) We're alike that way...

Steffy: (Chuckles)

Stephanie: We don't like to know that there are things we can or cannot do.

(Flashback)

Stephanie: You're the one that got the company back. I'm very proud of you.

Steffy: You know, this just feels like the beginning of something, like the rebirth of Forrester Creations. But we have to do it right. No compromise. Really clean the slate. Hey, I already got rid of one of the Logans. We're not gonna have trouble gettin' rid of them all.

(End of flashback)

Steffy: (Sniffling)

Stephanie: We fought a lot of battles, you and I.

Steffy: (Chuckles)

Stephanie: This is the one I don't get to win.

Steffy: (Sniffles) (Sniffles) (Sighs)

Liam: You know, I-I thought that something is going on over at Forrester, but...

Bill: It didn't sound like business?

Liam: I don't know. Maybe Ridge is coming back, but then why would Stephanie be all mysterious about something like that?

Bill: Did she tell Steffy why she wanted to see her?

Liam: No. But Steffy got a pretty funny feeling, like something seemed off. You know how you can just tell when something's wrong?

Katie: I-I-I don't want to be in the way.

Brooke: Don't be silly. There's plenty of room. Come on. You know you want to see him. You've been out most of the day.

Brooke: See? Mommy's right here. That's right. I know this is frustrating for you. I know this is really hard. But there are some women who do feel this way. They just want to be perfect for their children. Except you can't always be. But you know what? They don't care. They just want to be held, and they want to be loved, and if you give them that, in their eyes, you are the superhero. (Giggles)

Stephanie: Here.

Steffy: Stop that. I should be taking care of you.

Stephanie: You are. You are. You know what? (Clears throat) My mother used to call girls like you? Tough cookies. And that's what you are, a tough cookie.

Steffy: (Chuckles)

Stephanie: (Sighs) That's why I know I can count on you-- count on you to hold the family together when I'm not here.

Steffy: Me?

Stephanie: Mm-hmm.

(Flashback)

Stephanie: Seeing, uh, as you have done so much for this company, worked really hard, I thought it would be a good idea for you to have this office. Welcome to your new digs.

Steffy: Wait, s-s--seri--seriously?

Stephanie: Honey, you've earned it. I have a gift for you, Steffy. I hope you like it. It, um, kind of represents, for me, what I would like to think this family is about-- loyalty, integrity, honesty, love of family.

Steffy: Oh, my God.

(End of flashback)

Steffy: (Sniffles) I am not the rock of this family, Grandma. You are.

Stephanie: No, you're gonna be.

Steffy: (Chuckles)

Stephanie: Yes, you are.

Steffy: (Sighs)

Liam: Thank you.

Bill: You said Steffy would be here. She isn't. I asked you about her father. You don't know anything. Are you guys together, or not?

Liam: Dad, we're fine. Whatever's going on with her family, it's not gonna affect Steffy and me. I mean, that's--that's the way families are sometimes. You know, some things are private, not for everybody else to know. You understand that.

Bill: Better than you know.

Will: (Grunts)

Katie: (Sighs)

Brooke: Oh, he's hungry. Here you go.

Katie: You--you want me to give him a bottle? Dr. Caspary said I shouldn't give up on breast-feeding.

Brooke: I-I know. That's okay. It's whatever you're most comfortable with right now. But don't put yourself under a lot of pressure. Just--he needs to feel that connection. You don't want to at least try? Come here, Baby. Come on. Let's see Mommy. We're gonna see Mommy. That's right. Here we go. Here's your baby. Oh, yeah, that's good. He's so happy to be with his mom.

Katie: (Sighs)

Brooke: Ohh, he is so beautiful.

Katie: Yes, he is.

Will: (Fusses)

Brooke: He's hungry. Here. Here's a bottle.

Katie: (Sighs)

Will: (Crying)

Katie: (Sniffles)

Brooke: Go on.

Katie: He--he-- doesn't want it.

Brooke: No, he does. You just have to just try. Just be patient.

Will: (Fusses)

Katie: He--he won't take it.

Brooke: Honey, he's kind of picking up on your--your energy. You can't be so tense. Just keep--keep trying. It's all right.

Katie: (Sighs)

Will: (Fusses)

Katie: Why is he crying?

Brooke: It's okay. Just let him hear your voice. Let him feel your heartbeat. Hold him close.

Will: (Crying)

Katie: (Breathing heavily)

(Katie's words echoing in her mind)

Katie: I've studied the statistics. My chances of survival are... (Echoing) Low... if I get ten years. I'm... (Echoing) Lucky... my only son won't... (Echoing) Have a mother...

Will: (Fussing)

Katie: Lucky... won't have a mother...

Brooke: He's fine.

Katie: Please, I can't-- please take him. Please take him.

Brooke: Okay. Okay. I-I got him. Careful. Okay. All right.

Katie: (Breathing heavily)

Stephanie: You're stronger than you think.

Steffy: I'm not feeling very strong right now, Grandma. (Sniffles)

Stephanie: I know I'm asking a lot. I ask a lot because I... I know I can count on you, Steff.

Steffy: (Chuckles) Thank you.

Stephanie: For what? You're the one that got the company back.

Steffy: Do you know how many people told me that I remind them of you?

Stephanie: Uh-oh. (Chuckles) You're in trouble.

Steffy: Uh, Bill said it. Katie said it. Even that attorney Craig. I've never been so proud.

Stephanie: Well... (Chuckles) Thank you. I mean, uh... I'm very proud of you. We're a lot alike, you know.

Steffy: (Sighs)

Stephanie: We're fiercely devoted to the people we love. We never give in. We never give up. When something needs to be done, we get it done. (Chuckles) It wouldn't be the first time that you saved the family, would it? You got that company back...

Steffy: (Sighs) Grandma.

Stephanie: When no one else could. And I'm gonna be okay, because I know you're going to be here keeping watch on everyone.

Steffy: (Chuckles, sniffles) I could do that...

Stephanie: Well, good.

Steffy: As long as I know you're keeping watch over me.

Stephanie: I'll be there.

Steffy: (Sniffles)

Liam: You haven't told me how Will and Katie are doing.

Bill: Why don't you stop by the house and see for yourself?

Liam: (Chuckles) I just figured, a new baby-- you'd have that place on lockdown.

Bill: Well, to tell you the truth, I think--I think Katie could use some visitors right now.

Liam: Oh, yeah? She feeling cooped up?

Bill: The doctor says she's depressed.

Liam: Really?

Bill: Katie--yeah. Katie says no. She feels she's just not cut out for motherhood. I keep telling her she just has to relax. I mean, physically, she and the baby are fine. But she's not bonding with Will.

Liam: Whoa. Uh... Dad, I'm really sorry. I mean, I know how excited you guys were about it.

Bill: You know what? Listen. It's gonna be fine. We're just off to a rough start.

Liam: I had no idea.

Bill: Katie went through so much to bring our boy into the world. She should be the one showing it to him. She should be so happy. And instead, she's- she's distant. She's frightened. I want to help her, Liam, but I don't know what to do.

Katie: (Sniffles)

Brooke: I put Will down in the nursery.

Katie: Was he still crying?

Brooke: No, he settled down.

Katie: You see, it's me.

Brooke: No, it's not you, Honey. Please, listen to me. You can't keep getting worked up like this. It isn't healthy, for you or for the baby. Babies pick up on this kind of stress and the levels that you have are just too intense.

Katie: I know. I know. It--it--it--it's my fault. I made him cry because he doesn't feel comfortable with me, and he shouldn't, because he knows he can't depend on me.

Brooke: That's not true. You're his mother, and he needs you. Come on, you've gotta push fear and this anxiety aside. Will is your number one priority. You have to be there for him.

Katie: (Sighs, sniffles)

Stephanie: You know, I've always wondered what it was that your mother saw in that little, tiny face of yours when you were first born...

Steffy: (Chuckles)

Stephanie: That made her decide to name you after me. It must have been, um, tenacity and stubbornness.

Steffy: Yeah. Yeah, or it was my good looks and killer dance moves.

Stephanie: Oh.

Steffy: We have so much in common, Grandma.

Stephanie: (Chuckles) Especially the killer dance moves.

Steffy: Yeah. That, too. (Chuckles) You're always gonna be the original.

Stephanie: Perfectamente.

Steffy: Mm, you, too.

Stephanie: You ready to take on the whole world?

Steffy: Oh, you got it.

Stephanie: Cut from the same cloth.

Steffy: Oh, and heaven help anyone who gets in our way.

Stephanie: Come on, Honey. No more tears, okay? I can't handle all this emotion.

Steffy: (Chuckles) It's too soon, Grandma.

Stephanie: I'll agree with you on that. It is too soon. I don't want to go. (Chuckles) (Sighs) It's not really how much time have. It's what you do with it, you know? I'm so glad you came over here this afternoon, that I could have this special time with you, just the two of us talking.

Steffy: I'm gonna miss you.

Stephanie: I'm gonna miss you.

Steffy: (Chuckles)

Stephanie: But I know you're gonna make me proud.

Steffy: (Sniffles)

Stephanie: Okay?

Steffy: Yeah.

Stephanie: Same here. I love you, Baby Girl.

Steffy: I love you.

Brooke: Your family will help you. But you can't disappear on us. You can't disappear on your child.

Katie: I don't want that, either.

(Cell phone alerts)

Brooke: (Sighs) I'm sorry. That must be important. (Sighs) (Gasps)

Katie: (Sighs) What is it?

Brooke: It's Ridge.

Katie: He sent you an e-mail?

Brooke: It looks like an interview. And it's a picture... of Ridge. It doesn't look like he's wearing his wedding ring. He's in Paris. And he says, "I'm here to get a fresh start. I looked at my life. I was caught up in something and needed to take a step back. I figured out that's what was right for me. Right now that's not being in Los Angeles and... not being married to Brooke."

Katie: L-let me see that. They asked him if he's coming back to Los Angeles, and he--he says that he's not.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Katie: "Don't feel bad for me. This is a new chapter in my life." Don't be a--don't feel bad for him?

Brooke: "Brooke and I aren't married. I guess it just wasn't mean be." (Sighs) (Sighs)

Katie: Brooke... Brooke, I'm so glad you're here. I-I need you so much, and my son needs you.

Bill: Yeah. What are the terms?

Brooke: I just don't know how this could be over.

Bill: What do they want?

Katie: Listen to me. You are a great wife, and you are an incredible mother. You're everything I want to be and if Ridge doesn't appreciate you, then I promise you that you will find someone who does, just as much as I do.

Katie: I trust you with my life, Brooke. I trust you with everything I have.

Bill: Great.
