Bill: (Sighs) If anyone can reach Katie, it's you, Brooke.
Brooke: How is she doing?
Bill: Well, I-I told you I have a nurse and the doctor stopping here daily. I mean, we are keeping close tabs on her heart.
Brooke: And the baby?
Bill: (Sighs) Do you think it's possible that Katie thinks I have the nurse coming here because I don't trust her with Will?
Brooke: Why would she think you don't trust her?
Bill: Because maybe she doesn't trust me.
Brooke: You told me there wasn't another woman.
Bill: Brooke, Katie is the only woman that I want in my life. The problem is, I don't know that she wants me in hers anymore.
Brooke: Oh, no, I don't believe that.
Bill; She's pulling away from me, and I don't know what to do about it. I love her. I love our baby. But she's not herself. And I need you to help me figure out what's going on and how to make it better.
Pam: (Sighs) No, use your own stapler.
Donna: Mine's broken.
Pam: Well, requisition a new one.
Donna: After I collate my in--invoice--
Pam: No! No.
Donna: For God sake, Pam, it's a stapler, not the crown jewels.
Pam: I'll have you know that this was given to me by Eric on my first day here. It's very special. See?
Donna: "Welcome to Forrester."
Pam: Mm-hmm. He engraved that just for me.
Donna: Oh, please. That's practically on every stapler in the building.
Pam: (Hiss) It is not. (Chuckles)
Donna: They got a special promotional deal. (Chuckles) I can't believe you actually thought that-- oh, boy.
Eric: Hello, ladies. Is our new interim C.E.O. available?
Pam: I, um, I didn't see you on Thomas's schedule, Eric.
(Door opens)
Eric: Is it me, or did I just get the cold shoulder from Pam?
Donna: Don't take it personally. I think she's just adjusting to answering to a new boss.
Eric: (Sighs)
Stephanie: Is something wrong?
Pam: No. (Scoffs) What could possibly be wrong?
Stephanie: Honey, what is it?
Pam: Oh, nothing.
Stephanie: (Coughing)
Pam: You okay? Steph?
Stephanie: (Coughing)
Pam: Stephanie. Eric, come here.
Eric: Sweetheart? Stephanie, what is it?
Stephanie: (Coughing)
Eric: Stephanie!
Pam: You all right?
(Door opens)
Bill: That's the door to the nursery.
Brooke: Maybe she's checking on Will.
Bill: I hope so.
Brooke: You said this has been coming on, but today's the worst?
Bill: Yeah, I don't know what to make of it. This withdrawal is so unlike her. If she would just yell at me or something-- but she won't... or can't.
Brooke: I'm glad you called me.
Bill: I need help.
Brooke: Whatever Katie's going through, there is an answer. And I'm here for you and Katie. We're family.
Bill: I haven't always treated you that way, or your daughter.
Brooke: Hope doesn't hold grudges, and neither do I. You will get through this, I promise.
(Heartbeat thumping)
(Knock on door)
Katie: Hey.
Brooke: Hi, honey.
Katie: What are you doing here? I--let me guess. Bill called you. I-I-I wish he hadn't done that. You have so much on your plate right now.
Brooke: No, no no, I love to visit you and my little nephew.
Katie: But that's not why you're here.
Brooke: Your husband is very worried about you.
Katie: He's worried that I'll...
Brooke: Honey, what is it? You're not yourself. I can see that you're very upset. Come on, tell me.
Eric: Pam, get her some water. Get her some water.
Donna: Maybe she should sit down.
Eric: Here, oh, gee. Here. Here. Sit. Call 9-1-1.
Stephanie: (Coughing) No. No.
Pam: Steph, you need help.
Stephanie: No! I'm fine.
Pam: You are not fine. Drink that.
Eric: All right, look. Look, we have to call your doctor.
Stephanie: (Gasping) (Whispering) I'm better. I'm better.
Pam: Thank God.
Stephanie: (Normal voice) I'm okay. I'm okay.
Eric: No, no, no. I think we should let Doctor Lewis be the judge of that. What's her number?
Stephanie: (Breathing heavily)
Eric: Stephanie, we're gonna see your doctor today.
Pam: Come on, Steph, please.
Stephanie: (Sighs) Jeez, you're just worrywarts.
Eric: Oh, God.
Donna: What can I do?
Eric: Uh...
Pam: Uh, Eric, I think maybe I'll--I'll just say behind...
Stephanie: Hello, this is Mrs. Forrester.
Pam: To, uh, keep an eye on things.
Stephanie: I have to see Dr. Lewis right now, please.
Pam: But please, will you let me know if anything happens?
Stephanie: Thank--thank you.
Eric: Yeah, of course. Of course.
Stephanie: Thank you. Thank you. Okay, thanks. (Breathing heavily)
Eric: All right, good. Good. Now as soon as you get calmed down, we'll get in the car, all right? Just try to relax a little bit, and we'll go.
Stephanie: (Choking)
Eric: All right, all right, all right. Just try to take a deep breath. Come on.
Stephanie: (Coughs)
{Flashback}
Warden: Deacon Sharpe, you are no longer an inmate at this facility.
Bill: What are you waiting for, some of your cell mates to give you a kiss good-bye? Let's go. Move it.
{Present time}
Bill: (Sighs)
Katie: (Sighs) He's gonna be awake soon. He'll want to be fed. My milk still hasn't come in.
Brooke: It takes time. Don't worry. The baby will be fine.
Katie: (Sighs) The whole time I was pregnant, I just imagined this-- this normal, healthy delivery, and it wasn't like that.
Brooke: Honey, you almost died in the delivery room. It must have been frightening.
Katie: (Sniffles) Maybe Bill was right.
Brooke: You made it through and you delivered this beautiful baby boy.
Katie: I don't mean to seem ungrateful. I'm sure that's what Bill thinks. But I just--I'm just not prepared for this. I-I just never expected to--to go into labor the way I did, and because of Bill...
Katie: (Sighs)
Brooke: Because Bill what?
Katie: (Sighs) He did something.
Brooke: What did he do?
Katie: You don't want to know.
Brooke: Yes, I do.
Katie: Brooke, please, I really don't want to get into it. It just-- could you please just go?
Brooke: No. Not until you tell me how you're feeling, what you're feeling.
Katie: I don't-- I don't know how I'm feeling. You don't know how I'm feeling. I--I really, really wish Bill had never gotten you involved in this.
Brooke: He thought he was helping.
Katie: He always thinks he's helping, even if it's at the expense of his own family.
Brooke: What are you talking about?
Katie: Bill has to control everything and everyone. And if something gets in his way, he just runs it over, even if it means breaking the law.
Brooke: Breaking the law?
Katie: Bill did something criminal that could land him in jail for a long time.
Dr. Lewis: Sorry to keep you waiting. I was with a patient.
Stephanie: Hi. Dr. Lewis. Someone who needed to see you more than I do, I'm sure.
Eric: Yes, my wife insists that I'm overreacting, uh, telling her she needs to see you today.
Dr. Lewis: Tell me what happened.
Stephanie: It was just a little coughing. I mean, nothing really--
Eric: No, no, it was a lot of coughing, and she was-- she was wheezing. She lost-- she couldn't catch her breath.
Stephanie: Stop. Stop. You're making it sound worse than it was.
Dr. Lewis: Let's see. Your last appointment was three weeks ago. How have you been feeling since?
Stephanie: Fine. Well, I don't have as a much energy as I usually do, but who the hell does at my age? Look, give me of those great B-12 shots, and I'll be fine-- just my old self like that all over again.
Eric: (Chuckles) God forbid.
Stephanie: Look, Dr. Lewis, this visit is so unnecessary.
Dr. Lewis: You're here, anyway. Let's draw some blood just to make sure.
Stephanie: Oh.
Dr. Lewis: I'll be back.
Eric: Thank you. (Sighs)
(Door opens)
Stephanie: (Sighs)
Brooke: Hi, this is Brooke. Please leave me a message, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Pam: What do you think you're doing?
Donna: Uh, um, I'm trying to call Brooke. Is--is there a problem?
Pam: Yeah. I want all lines free for when Eric calls.
Donna: Oh. Pammy... she's gonna be okay.
Pam: (Sighs) Of course she's gonna be okay. She has to be.
Donna: (Sighs) Bill. What--I-I was expecting Katie to answer.
Bill: She's upstairs with Will.
Donna: Is everything okay? I mean, uh, aren't you home kind of early?
Bill: No, Donna, everything is not okay. I'm worried about my wife. She isn't herself. Brooke's upstairs with her now and hopefully she's getting through to her, because I'm certainly not.
Donna: Is this about the whole Italy thing-- Deacon and that whole mess?
Bill: Yeah, look... (sighs) Donna, I-I know I screwed up, okay? But if Katie could just focus on our baby and our family, I know, in time, everything will be all right.
Katie: Bill did something awful, something that could rip our family apart. I just can't believe that this is my life, that I'm married to a man who would jeopardize everything. (Sighs) I mean, what kind of father does that, especially when he knows that his son's mother might not...
Brooke: Finish it. What were you gonna say?
Katie: Everything just feels so fragile. I don't want that for Will. I-I-I know that Bill loves him just the way he loves Liam, but that didn't stop him from... a mother has to be there to protect her child, to support him, and so does a father, and that--that's always been Bill's justification for everything-- that he's just protecting the son that he loves.
Brooke: Okay. Well, that's not going to happen with Will, because you won't let Bill do that.
Katie: How do you know? How can I know?
Brooke: (Sighs) I'm lost. You--you were talking about Bill doing something criminal. So what is that about? Katie, you have to tell me.
Brooke: Why don't we go outside and get some fresh air? (Sighs) You've been cooped up in this house too long.
Katie: I-I don't need fresh air. I need...
Brooke: What?
Katie: I don't know.
Brooke: (Sighs) Oh, sweetheart. I don't know what Bill did, but one thing I can tell you-- that man downstairs is very worried about you and he's completely devoted to you and Will and loves you so much. I know he wants this to be a very special time for you.
Katie: I want that, too. (Sighs) Will deserves that. All newborns do. But as hard as I try, I... (Sighs) There's so many things that I want us to do as a family. But I don't know if we're gonna get that chance. And Will needs his father. All boys do, especially growing up. Liam didn't have that.
Brooke: You still haven't told me what Bill did. I want to know, Katie. I want to know now.
Katie: (Sighs)
Stephanie: I hate needles. I suppose people tell you that all the time. I feel like a pincushion.
Eric: Don't mind her.
Stephanie: (Sighs)
Eric: She gets a little testy when she doesn't get her daily dose of gin and vermouth.
Stephanie: After all these years, he still can't make a decent martini.
Man: Done.
Stephanie: Thank you.
Man: You might make martini hour after all.
Stephanie: (Chuckles) Thanks.
Eric: Good.
Dr. Lewis: Put a rush on that.
Eric: Thank you.
Stephanie: You just want to check and see if the tumor markers have changed. I know.
(Intercom buzzes)
Dr. Lewis: Lewis. I'll be right there. I'm sorry. It's a patient. Help yourself to some coffee.
Eric: Oh, thank you. I'll get one for you, huh?
Stephanie: Sure.
Eric: (Sighs)
Stephanie: (Sighs)
Eric: (Sighs) Here we are.
Stephanie: Thank you.
Eric: Not a martini, but, uh, it is what it is.
(Mugs clink)
Stephanie: God, I hate waiting for test results. (Chuckles) It never gets easier.
Eric: (Sighs) Yeah, well, nothing about cancer's ever easy, but you faced it before with courage and with strength, and you'll do it again. Come on. Come here.
Stephanie: (Sighs)
Bill: I really don't give a damn, Alison. When I tell you I don't want to be disturbed at home, I mean it.
Brooke: Problems at Spencer, too?
Bill: Forget about that. How's Katie?
Brooke: She's in a dark place.
Bill: I told you that, Brooke, that's why asked you to come over.
Brooke: But there's more.
Bill: What do you mean?
Brooke: For her to be feeling the way that she's feeling..
Bill: What did she say?
Brooke: Probably more than you would want her to.
Bill: Brooke, will you just spit it out and stop being so cryptic?
Brooke: What are you holding onto? Why haven't you told me everything?
Bill: I don't know everything. She won't talk to me. She hardly looks at me.
Brooke: And you can't imagine why. Damn it, Bill, talk to me. What is going on? My sister almost lost her life in that delivery room, but she didn't. She survived, and she came home with a very healthy baby boy. And yet here she is. She can't even look at you. She's withdrawn deep inside of herself. And she's questioning if she even should have had that child. So what is it? What are you hiding? I want to know the truth, and I want to know all of it. Otherwise, I cannot help her.
Bill: Something I regret. Something hurtful and unfair... to your daughter.
Brooke: My daughter? What does Hope have to do with this? Damn it, Bill, tell me what you did to my daughter!
