Bill: Did something happen?

Dr. Meade: Katie needs you.

Bill: What is it?

Dr. Meade: There are decisions to be made you need to help her make them while she can.

(Heart monitor beeping)

Dr. Caspary: Katie? Katie? Are you back with us?

Katie: (Sighs) Bill? Where's Bill?

Dr. Caspary: Dr. Meade went for him. He'll be right here.

Katie: (Inhales sharply) (Sighs) What are my chances?

Dr. Caspary: Oh, Katie.

Katie: Save the baby.

Dr. Caspary: I have every hope that both of you are going to come through this.

Katie: Save the baby. No matter what Bill says, it's my decision to make, and I'm making it.

Pam: Did Ridge think about me when he went away on vacation? No!

Thomas: He's not on vacation. He's on his honeymoon.

Pam: How am I supposed to route these messages-- this one, this one, this one?

Hope: Uh, I thought Rick went over all that with Aunt Donna before he left?

Pam: And who knows where she is. "I don't report to you, Pam Douglas." (Sighs)

Thomas: Rick? You've been forwarding all my father's messages to Rick?

Pam: (Laughs) A girl's gotta have Hope For the Future to think she's gonna look good in this.

Thomas: Look, Pam, my grandpa should be the one making these decisions.  Rick has no authority in this office.

Pam: Well, that's not what he thinks.

Thomas: And didn't I ask you very nicely, Aunt Pam, to see that Hope and I weren't interrupted?

Pam: Oh, so now you're getting on a high horse, too?

Thomas: I'm sorry. I didn't mean that the way it sounded, Pam.

Pam: You're not old enough to be much more than interruption yourself.

Thomas: (Sighs) Okay. Well, I have an idea. Let's just pretend that I handled that well.

Hope: You handled that so well.

Liam: (Sighs)

(Telephone rings)

Liam: (Sighs) Yes?

Bill: Get ahold of Katie's sisters, her father, too, if you can. I'm a the hospital. Katie's in labor.

Liam: What? Not already. How did that happen?

Bill: Liam, don't ask me questions. Just do what I ask you to do. It's not good.

Bill: Katie, I'm here, baby. I'm here. You're okay.

Katie: Is the baby gonna be okay? Tell me the truth. Oh, God. (Groans)

Dr. Meade: Heart rate?

Dr. Caspary: 135. 136.

Dr. Meade: Mg2 level?

Bill: What--what is that?

Woman: 6-2.

Dr. Meade: (Sighs) Okay, it's not working.

Dr. Caspary: It's not safe to infuse any more.

Woman: 137.

Dr. Meade: We can't wait any longer.

Bill: W-what do you mean? You can't wait for what?

Dr. Caspary: Katie needs an emergency c-section. The conservative measures we can safely use have not brought down her heart rate or her blood pressure to acceptable levels.

Katie: Do it. Do it.

Bill: What--what—here.

Dr. Caspary: The birthing center's always equipped.

Bill: No way. Not until I'm convinced there are no other options.

Dr. Meade: She just gave her consent.

Katie: Bill.

Bill: You are not going to risk my wife's life for the sake of the child. That's not gonna happen.

Katie: (Groans)

Dr. Caspary: The worst has not happened, and we don't want it to, but if we don't do something, Katie is first gonna have convulsions and then multi organ failure.

Dr. Meade: And we could lose both her and the baby.

Katie: (Breathing heavily) I know. I know, but you have to trust someone, Bill. I mean, if--

Bill: I trust you, Katie. I only trust you.

Katie: (Breathing heavily)  (Moans)

Bill: All right. All right, go ahead.

Dr. Caspary: Okay. Let's get the surgical team together.

Woman: Okay.

Dr. Meade: I'll scrub in.

Bill: Katie, it'll be okay, baby. I'm here.

Katie: (Sighs) (Moans) (Sighs)

Thomas: The Hope for the Future you're describing doesn't match the one we're selling.

Hope: Maybe that's because I don't match the girl who was producing it.

Thomas: You look like the same girl to me.

Hope: I know. I think that's the problem.

Thomas: Okay. So this new Hope for the Future-- what do you see a promotional campaign looking like?

Hope: I see myself alone in a cafe or walking in the rain, you know, at the airport watching movie on my laptop, while, you know, strangers look over my shoulder to see why I'm laughing.

Thomas: That is very different, yes.

Hope: (Chuckles) I-I really don't want any more images of me, you know, leaning on some handsome guy, you know, even if that guy is you.

Pam: Uh, Liam's Spencer's on line is on line two for you.

Hope: Uh, yeah, I'm--I don't know. Could you just tell him--

Thomas: Pam, I thought we agreed--

Pam: No, I know. I know. He says it's an emergency.

Hope: Okay. (Sighs) Liam?

Liam: Have you heard from your mom yet?

Hope: No.

Liam: Okay, have you-- uh, have you spoken to Donna recently?

Hope: Not in the office. Why?

Liam: Katie's gone into labor.

Hope: It's too early.

Liam: I--yeah, there's-- I don't know. There's some problem, and that's all I know. My dad told me to start calling her family.

Hope: Oh, my God.

Katie: (Groans) No. No general anesthesia.

Bill: Katie, you said we have to trust the doctors.

Katie: (Sighs)

Dr. Caspary: Katie, listen to me. It's the quickest and safest in an emergency like this.

Katie: And what if I never wake up?

Bill: Don't even say that.

Katie: That's what everyone is thinking. I want to see my son. I want to see my husband holding him. Those two things-- that's all I want.

Dr. Meade: We could do a spinal block.

Katie: (Sighs)

Dr. Caspary: Page anesthesiology again.

Katie: (Groans)

Bill: Katie, you promised me. You said this would be okay.

Katie: I know. (Sighs) (Moans) (Sighs)

Caroline: Can I bring you two a... I thought you and Hope were in here working.

Thomas: So did I.

Caroline: Oh. I was gonna see if you wanted to get dinner.

Thomas: Oh, well, Liam called, and off she went.

Caroline: Oh. I see.

Thomas: It seems her aunt Katie went into labor.

Caroline: My uncle-- I mean, she's my aunt, too.

Thomas: They didn't call you?

Caroline: I mean, is she gonna be okay?

Thomas: The baby's a little premature. Hope really didn't say much.

Caroline: I guess I really still am an outsider.

Thomas: It's odd, isn't it, feeling like an outsider in your own family?

Woman: Dr. Florence, dial 118, please. Dr. Florence, please dial 1-1-8.

(Elevator bell dings)

Hope: Uh, hi. Hey.

Liam: Hey. Hey.

Hope: Any news?

Liam: Um, she's having a c-section.

Hope: Why?

Liam: It's some condition, and it's bad. It's ac--ac--"aclampsis" ?

Hope: Eclampsia?

Liam: Yes.

Hope: Pre-eclampsia?

Liam: Yeah.

Hope: Liam, that's serious.

Liam: Well, how serious? I mean, like, it- mm, like-- like, Katie could die? Like, the baby could die? How serious?

Hope: (Sighs)

Liam: Oh, my God, my dad must be going out of his mind right now. He didn't even want Katie to have the baby. I mean, you know the risk goes through the roof when it's a heart transplant recipient. You know that. I know you know that.

Hope: Yeah.

Liam: (Sighs) (Sniffles)

Hope: We--I'm-- would you rather I left right now?

Liam: You--you're the only member of Katie's family I could even get ahold of. I--

Hope: No, I-I just-- I'm-I-I just mean ,would you be more comfortable if I waited somewhere else?

Liam: Why are you asking me that? You know the answer.

Katie: If I have another contraction again, will I feel it?

Dr. Meade: We've given you a spinal lock. Just keep looking at Bill.

Bill: Thank you.

Dr. Meade: Where am I touching you, Katie?

Katie: I can't feel you.

Bill: So the pain is blocked?

Dr. Meade: Yes.

Bill: You're the first person who ever saw something good in me. Without you, I'll never find that again, Katie.

Katie: Promise me.

Bill: What?

Katie: Love first. Don't try to teach Liam. Don't try to save him. Don't try to ambush Hope. Don't blame this child for the thing you're afraid of. Love first. It's not that hard.

Bill: For you.

Dr. Caspary: Okay, we're ready, Mr. Spencer.

Bill: I hope you don't think I'm going anywhere.

Dr. Caspary: Well, it's not a long surgery.

Bill: Then I suppose you should stop wasting time.

Dr. Meade: Scrub him and gown him.

Woman: Mr. Spencer, please come with me.

Bill: I love you.

Katie: I love you, too.

Bill: I'll be right back.

Katie: Mm (Sighs)

Caroline: I don't even know if "outsider" is really the right word. It kind of feels normal, you know. I don't really now my uncle Bill that well. And growing up, my family was my moms. I never expected to meet any other Spencers and really, from everything that heard about them, I didn't really want to. But you-- you--your family seem so close.

Thomas: Well, I did some crazy things to keep myself on my the outside looking in.

Caroline: Such as?

Thomas: Well, when I was barely legal, I married the daughter of my grandmother's maid to get her a green card.

Caroline: You what?

Thomas: My parents had it annulled, and it--it ended up working out for the best.

Caroline: You have got a case of rescuer syndrome, don't you?

Thomas: Intermittently.

Caroline: Or does that account for all the time that you've been spending with Hope?

Thomas: Probably most of it. I won't lie. I remember being in love with Hope. I even remember kidding myself into thinking she'd love me back. But I don't have to do that anymore. I have somebody who cares about me, who is patient, thoughtful, understanding, and always there.

(Telephone rings)

(Ring)

Hope: Hey, who is the person coming and going?

Liam: Uh, anesthesiologist, I'm guessing.

Hope: (Sighs) Okay. So they must have started the surgery. (Sighs)

Liam: Wonder what it's like for the baby to be born like that.

Hope: I think being born is the ultimate shock.

Liam: (Scoffs) And then what? We all just... adjust?

Hope: Try to. (Sighs) (Scoffs) I don't know how adjusted I am. (chuckles)

Liam: Maybe that explains a lot about  you.

Hope: What do you mean?

Liam: I don't now. You--you always seemed like you were meant for another world anyway, not this one.

Hope: Maybe we all were. Maybe we're supposed to be building that world here, and your little brother will--will come out with a picture of it in his head.

Liam: (Chuckles) Yeah. I'll--I'll hand him a crayon as soon as he can hold one.

Hope: He'll, uh, he'll show us the way that we were all meant to be together.

Liam: Unless my dad gets to him first. (Laughs)

Hope: (Chuckles) You'll be a good big brother... a good father someday, too. I've always thought so.

Liam: I don't understand why you're saying that. I-I know you don't think that anymore.

Hope: I still have faith in you.

Liam: Faith, yeah, not trust. (Sighs) Maybe I don't want to be anybody's father.

Hope: You have never said that before.

Liam: Yeah, well, maybe--maybe this is changing my mind. I mean, what if... what if Katie dies?

Hope: (Sighs)

Liam: What if she just... I mean, what if that were you in there?

Dr. Caspary: Okay, more sponges.

DR. Meade: Suction here.

Dr. Caspary: Clamp.

Bill: So Justin asks the driver to take us to some back alley jazz in Vina del Mar.

Katie: What time is it?

Dr. Meade: You're doing fine, Katie.

Bill: Hang on.

Katie: No, no, don't. Don't go. Don't go anywhere.

Bill: I'm not-- I'm going anywhere. I'll be right here. I'll be right here. You look like something's wrong.

Dr. Caspary: There was a little bleeding.

Bill: From what?

Dr. Meade: It happens.

Dr. Caspary: It stopped now. Let's go with the suction.

Katie: What's going on?

Bill: They say you're a champ.

Katie: I think you're lying

Bill: I say what's true before it's true.

Dr. Caspary: Give me some kellys. Hold it right there, nurse.

Woman:  Kellyn

Katie: Where did Justin take you?

Dr. Meade: I need some more sponges right here.

Bill: Oh, uh, to a monastery about 20 miles outside of town in the hills.

Dr. Caspary: Try to concentrate on being very still, Katie.

Bill: Hey, don't look at her. Stay with me, Katie.

Katie: I always look at you.

Dr. Caspary: Nurse.

Katie: I'll be looking at you on my last day.

Bill: Don't start talking crazy.

Dr. Meade: Now. Make sure you are holding--

Dr. Caspary: A little more tractions. Okay, good.

Dr. Meade: Good, a little more. Little more.

Dr. Caspary: Okay. You got it. You go.

(Baby cries)

Dr. Meade: I got him.

Dr. Caspary: You got him. (Laughs)

Dr. Meade: Looks good, Katie. (Chuckles)

Bill: Oh, my God. I can't believe it. Katie, he's beautiful.

Katie: (Sighs)

Bill: That's our son.

Katie: Oh, my.

Bill: Katie, you did it.

Katie: (Laughs)

Bill: You did it. I'm so glad.

Katie: (Sighs)

Bill: Oh, my God, he's beautiful. You're beautiful

Katie: (Laughs)

Woman: Dr. Jay Hamilton. Dr. Jay Hamilton...

Hope: What? What? What happ--what--what happened?

Liam: Baby's fine, he's breathing on his own.

Hope: (Sighs)

Liam: My little brother. (Chuckles)

Hope: Oh, my God. Congratulations, Liam.

Liam: Yeah. I was, um... I was talking to the nurse while they were stitching Katie back up.

Hope: (Sighs)

Liam: (Sighs)

Hope: Wait, did you get to see her? Did you--did you see her?

Liam: No. No. No. But the--the nurse said that mother and baby are doing just fine.

Hope: Whew. Oh, my God. (Sighs) (chuckles)

Liam: Amazing Katie. (Chuckles)

Hope: Amazing Katie (Sighs)

Liam: How does-- how does she do that? How does anyone have that much love to give?

Hope: (Sighs)

Liam: I mean, she loves you. She loves my father. She loved... us. She still does.

Hope: Yeah. I wish I could be like her. I wish I could be that strong.

Liam: Oh, no. I-I never wanted you to be any different.

Hope: Maybe I did. Maybe I still could be.

Baby: (Cooing)

Dr. Caspary: (Speaking indistinctly)

Katie: Mm. How does he look?

Bill: How do you think he looks? Handsome. What are they doing?

Katie: Probably counting his fingers and his toes and teaching him French.

Bill: Hey, will you do me a favor? Don't ever do that to me again.

Katie: Mm-hmm. (Inhales sharply) How much of a mess am I?

Bill: You're more gorgeous than ever.

Katie: (Chuckles)

Dr. Caspary: Now you really can't sit up yet. You're not as steady as you think you are.

Bill: You want to hold him?

Woman: Are you ready? Yeah, there you go.

Bill: (Chuckles)

Katie: Oh. (Sighs)

Bill: Okay.

Katie: Oh, look at him.

Bill: It's our son.

Katie: Hi (chuckles)

Baby: (Fusses)

Bill: Ooh.

Katie: He's come all this way and he doesn't even look tired. (Chuckles)

(Alarm beeping)

Bill: What? What? What?

Dr. Meade: It may need a reset.

Dr. Caspary: No, wait.

Katie: I don't think I can stay awake anymore.

Bill: Katie? Katie? Katie? She--she's passing out.

Dr. Meade: Check her cardio.

Bill: What--what's going on?

Dr. Meade: Let's check this out.

Bill: Katie! Katie, wake up

(Heart monitor flatlines)

Bill: Katie? What--what's happening? What the hell is happening?!

Dr. Meade: Sir, please step away.

Woman: She's coding.

Dr. Caspary: Oh, It's that bleed. She's thrown a clot.

Dr. Meade: 30 units anistreplase.

(Indistinct conversation)

Dr. Caspary: Meds are on board.

Dr. Meade: Crash cart ready?

Woman: Crash cart's ready.

(Speaks indistinctly)

Dr. Meade: 200.

(Indistinct conversation)

(Flatline alarm continues)
