Rick: No. (Laughs)
Hope: Well, well. Just make yourself at home.
Rick: I think I will. It's a nice--nice fit so far.
Hope: Mm-hmm. Don't get too comfortable. Ridge did not retire. He's just on his honeymoon.
Rick: The first steps towards letting go.
Hope: Or a much-needed break.
Rick: Either way, I intend to make the best out of this opportunity. I want to prove to Dad and Ridge that I have what it takes to run this company. I mean, if not me, who else, right? I mean, out of all of us I'm the only one with corporate experience.
Hope: All right. All right. Well, enjoy it while it lasts.
Rick: And what are you enjoying lately?
Hope: What do you mean?
Rick: Well, I saw you and Thomas at the wedding.
Hope: (Sighs)
Rick: He seems to be lifting your spirits.
Hope: Thomas is a good friend.
Rick: He's someone you can count on.
Hope: (Sighs) I used to have that with Liam.
Rick: Liam and Steffy are connected. It's been that way from the start.
Hope: Mm, not the start.
Rick: Long enough to matter. I mean, there he was at--at Mom and Ridge's wedding hanging out with Steffy knowing you're seeing all of it-- not very considerate of your feelings.
Hope: I don't know. Maybe Liam's changing.
Liam: All right, Forrester gave us a lot to cover this week-- Hope for the Future's new line, Thomas as a designer, Ridge and Brooke's wedding. What do you got for me?
Woman: I went with the irony angle, how the fashion world has been focused on-- sorry to bring it up-- Hope's wedding to you, while Ridge and Brooke slipped in under the radar and actually got it done.
Liam: Yeah, well, that's garbage.
Woman: Excuse me?
Liam: That's a piece of fluff, Cindy. It sucks. Spencer Publications is edgy. Spencer Publications is hard-hitting. Does this seem like either one of those to you? No, I didn't think so. I want a complete rewrite.
Man: It's a wedding.
Liam: Oh, I'm sorry, Martin. Did you think this was a debate? What do you got?
Martin: Uh, it's a write-up on Thomas' design background.
Liam: That is so boring! Come on, guys. Uh, dig into his personal life if you have to, but give me something headline-worthy, please.
Martin: (Sighs) Like what?
Liam: Don't ask me that. That's your job. That's what we pay you for. Get--everybody, out. Just--just get out and please come back when you give me something I can use.
Martin: (Sighs)
Liam: (Sighs) Oh.
Bill: Now that's what I'm talking about.
Rick: Liam's changing? For better or worse?
Hope: Depends on your point of view, I guess.
Rick: What's yours?
Hope: (Sighs) I don't know if I'm right on this, but I-I-I feel like I've picked up on something.
Rick: But you have the best barometer as far as Liam is concerned.
Hope: (Sighs)
Rick: I say go with your instincts. What do they say?
Hope: He seemed... internalized, um, I don't know-- like some of the light was gone from his eyes.
Rick: Well, he just lost the most awesome woman in the world.
Hope: No. (Sighs)
Rick: It makes perfect sense to me.
Hope: No, it was--it--it felt like it was more than just our breakup. I mean, it was fundamental.
Thomas: Hey.
Hope: Hey.
Thomas: What's this about a photo shoot?
Rick: Yeah, you and Hope.
Hope: Um...
Rick: It's all been arranged.
Hope: What--uh, today? What?
Rick: Yeah, in a few. Look, my announcement of your partnership might have been on the fly, but we have to proceed as if it were happening.
Caroline: Does Hope for the Future even have a line to promote?
Rick: Not yet, but that's where Thomas and Hope come in. You're gonna have to come up with something and fast.
Hope: (Chuckles)
Thomas: Well, I have a few ideas. I was gonna run them by you today.
Hope: Yeah?
Thomas: Yeah.
Hope: Okay, well, I've actually got a couple of concepts in mind, too.
Rick: Well, that's great. By the time Ridge and Mom are back, this campaign will be a success.
Bill: I like the way you handled the troops.
Liam: Yeah? I basically yelled at them and told them their work was crap.
Bill: You can't argue with success, Liam. They filed out of here knowing who's the boss. That's how you handle employees. They are not your colleagues or your friends. They’re... paid minions.
Liam: (Scoffs)
Bill: Remember that and you'll go far.
Liam: Minions. Nice.
Bill: You don't get ahead in business by being nice. Everybody doesn't have to love you, but they do have to respect you. And you have to be competitive. Now you want to--you want to play nice as a means to achieving a desired result? Great. But clichés exist for a reason, Son. And nice guys really do finish last.
Liam: Yeah, I'm starting to get that.
Bill: Hallelujah. Not a moment too soon.
Liam: Well, I certainly didn't get too far being nice with Hope, did I?
Bill: Forget about Hope. She was a learning experience. You can thank her later when you're running Spencer Publications, and you're successful beyond your wildest dreams, living large, the way you were destined, like a true Spencer. Are you feeling me, player?
Liam: Funny thing-- I think I am.
Oliver: Hey, Grace! Oh, um, can you get the portrait lens? It's on the top there next to the tape.
Hope: (Laughs)
Rick: Okay, before we get started, let's just keep in mind where we're coming from.
Thomas: Yeah.
Rick: I threw the press by making the announcement that Thomas was a new designer for Hope for the Future.
Hope: Uh, you threw everybody when you said that. (Laughs)
Thomas: Including me.
Rick: Well, a pretty good move on my part, I must say. But you, you trumped me by planting a kiss on Hope. Now the vultures are looking for chemistry, so let's give it to them.
Thomas: (Sighs)
Hope: Mm-hmm.
Thomas: All right.
Rick: All right?
Thomas: Yep.
Rick: Is everybody ready?
Caroline: The lighting on Hope is a little bit harsh.
Oliver: Okay, got it.
Thomas: You nervous?
Hope: No. I think we're pretty comfortable around each other.
Thomas: Yeah.
Hope: Um, so aside from chemistry, what are we going for here?
Rick: Well, fun, breezy, sexy. (Stammers) You gotta make it seem as if you've moved on with Liam and you're good with that.
Hope: Okay.
Rick: Huh?
Hope: All right, I can manage that.
Thomas: (Chuckles)
Oliver: What do you think, better?
Caroline: Perfect.
Rick: All right.
Thomas: All right.
Hope: (Laughs)
Rick: Let's do it.
Hope: Okay.
Thomas: All right.
Hope: (Clears throat)
(Camera shutter clicking)
Rick: Hey, hey, Thomas. Thomas, where are you going?
Bill: Coming along nicely, Liam.
Liam: You think so, huh?
Bill: It's never too late to reap the benefits of a father's guidance. I wasn't there for you when you were growing up. You didn't have my influence, a male role model. You know, women are one of the great wonders of the world. But they like to soften a man up, get him in touch with his feelings.
Liam: (Laughs) We do have them, you know.
Bill: But you can never let them get the best of you. Mind over matter-- the secret to life. Never forget it.
Liam: So if-- if it was Katie-- if you lost Katie, you're saying it'd still be that simple? I mean, you'd just-- you'd just focus and nothing hurts anymore?
Bill: Eventually.
Liam: Yeah, well, what about in the meantime?
Bill: You focus on other things-- throw yourself into your work or the arms of another woman.
Liam: That easy, huh?
Bill: I didn't say it was easy. I love Katie more than I thought it was possible to love another human being. If she left me, I would be devastated, but I would go on, because that's what men do. A man cannot wallow in self-pity or retreat from the world or lose his pride. It’s the curse of the gene pool, Liam. You see, women-- women are allowed to be ruled by emotion. A man does that--forget it. In the real world, a man can't lose his respect. If that happens, nobody wants to hear what you have to say. They will not trust you with their business. They will not trust you with their money. And a woman-- a woman can't love a man she doesn't respect, and it's not freely given. You have to... well, you can't earn it. You have to demand it. You have to demand it by your actions and in your expectation. You got off on the wrong foot getting so wrapped up with Hope. But that's okay. The first cut is the deepest. And it's behind you now. From this point forward, you will be a man who commands respect. I'm going to see to it.
(Door opens)
Katie: Hey. What's going on?
Bill: Just teaching my son the facts of life.
Caroline: There's nothing to talk about.
Thomas: Humor me.
Caroline: We said it all, anyway. You need to support your good friend Hope, so if that means pulling a double duty, so be it. Putting our relationship on hold-- well, that's fine, too.
Thomas: On hold? That's not my reality.
Caroline: Well, then you should check out the view from over here.
Thomas: I'm sorry if you feel like I'm neglecting you, but--
Caroline: No, it's not a feeling, Thomas. When was the last time that we spent an evening together that wasn't sandwiched between the time that you spend with Hope?
Thomas: I know, okay? It's unfair for me to expect you to understand, but I really wish you would, okay? I don't want to lose you because I'm showing allegiance to an old friend.
Caroline: And it doesn't help that she is just so perfect and so beautiful and, oh, did I forget to mention that you used to be in love with her? Are you still?
Thomas: (Scoffs) It's not like that.
Caroline: Oh, then what is it like, Thomas?
Thomas: Do you remember at the press conference when Hope started to falter?
Caroline: Yeah. And then Rick jumped in and took over.
Thomas: Okay, that was an emotionally volatile moment. She had to announce what, to her, felt like another failure. Admitting to the press that she and Liam were done probably felt like déjà vu. It's exactly what caused her to lose it last time. (Sighs) Hope's been through a lot, and everyone who cares about her is rallying around to make sure that she doesn't feel alone. That's all.
Caroline: I'm being selfish.
Thomas: That's not what I'm saying.
Caroline: No, it's-- it's what I'm saying, Thomas. (Sighs) I'm so sorry. I've been unfair. It's just... I miss you.
Thomas: Same here. I miss you.
Caroline: Well, then can we do something about that?
Thomas: Yes. I can think of a thing or two. Okay
Oliver: I think these are the best of the bunch, at first glance, anyway.
Hope: Yeah.
Rick: Yeah, look at that. You know, somebody should have thought of pairing you up with Thomas a long time ago.
Hope: Oh, then you wouldn't get the credit.
Rick: Yeah, good point.
Hope: No, I think these are really, really good.
Rick: Mm-hmm. Yeah, they're young and--and--and fresh and happy.
Hope: Mm-hmm.
Rick: It's so great seeing my little sister happy.
Hope: Mm-hmm.
Oliver: I agree. It looks great on you, Hope.
Hope: Thank you.
Rick: Mm-hmm.
Hope: Well, I should credit Thomas. I mean, he just--he makes me feel lighter somehow.
Oliver: I'm gonna go run these.
Hope: Okay.
Rick: Make sure you get those back to me as soon as you can. I really want to get a jump on that campaign.
Oliver: Hey, Rick, I got it.
Hope: (Chuckles) Are you sure you are not moving too fast without Ridge's okay?
Rick: (Stammers) Ridge can't give us a chance to run the company without giving us the leeway to make decisions. And besides, they're on their honeymoon.
Hope: Mm-hmm.
Rick: They gave us specific instructions-- no interruptions.
Hope: Mm-hmm. No. I-I-I get that. I mean, when Liam and I were alone those few days in Italy, it--I mean, the world could have ended, and it would have been fine.
Katie: He hasn't been harassing you, has he?
Liam: (Chuckles) No. No. Just talk.
Bill: Good talk, right, son?
Liam: Right.
Bill: How's my other boy doing?
Katie: He's very active.
Bill: Yeah? You know, you look pretty cute, like you got a little basketball in your tummy.
Katie: Hmm. Well, maybe it's the same size, but a basketball would at least be still.
Bill: You have a Spencer male in there.
Katie: (Laughs)
Bill: He's anxious to get out, make a name for himself.
Katie: Let's just get him out of diapers first, shall we? So how you doing?
Liam: (Sighs) I'm hanging in.
Bill: You're doing better than that.
Katie: I thought it might be a little hard for you with Hope and Thomas standing up for Brooke and Ridge.
Bill: What does that have to with anything?
Katie: I just thought that it might be a little upsetting.
Bill: He's fine.
Katie: Can he speak for himself?
Liam: I'm fine.
Bill: See?
Liam: I don't really have a choice, actually.
Katie: Why not?
Liam: A woman tells you she doesn't love you anymore, there's not much you can do besides take her word for it and move on.
Katie: Hope said that?
Liam: It--she wanted to avoid it at first, yeah, but that's what she said.
Katie: Well, she obviously didn't mean it.
Liam: She kind of meant it.
Katie: It's a defense mechanism. She's hurting.
Liam: Okay, you know what? Hope is not the only one getting knocked around here.
Katie: All right, fine. Maybe that's your defense mechanism. How's it working for you?
Bill: All right, enough with the defense mechanism. Hope is with Thomas. Liam is moving on with his life with... any other woman.
Katie: You mean Steffy.
Bill: If she's the right one.
Katie: She's not.
Bill: That's not for you to decide.
Katie: It's not for you to decide, either.
Liam: Okay, uh, whatever happens from here, wherever I go, it's up to me, and--and I would appreciate it if you both would respect that. Huh?
Katie: Oh.
Bill: You see that? He's asserting himself.
Katie: (Chuckles)
Bill: That's what I expect from my son, not this love-struck, namby-pamby--
Katie: Oh, don't look so smug. I bet you anything he's headed straight for Hope. Questions?
Bill: Liam's a work in progress. As much as I'd like it, I can't expect him to do a complete turnaround overnight. But I'll get Hope out of his system.
Katie: Why can't you just leave them alone?
Bill: I tried that. And what happened? Hope stomped all over his heart again. It's ridiculous. It has to stop.
Katie: (Sighs) You know, couples have problems. They work them out. It makes them stronger.
Bill: Well, this joke of a relationship doesn't make Liam stronger. Hope makes him weak.
Katie: And you're just gonna toughen him up, huh?
Bill: It's my duty as his father.
Katie: Liam is perfect just the way he is. He's warm. He's funny. He's quirky. Why would you want to change that?
Bill: And he can be all those things and not let Hope or any other woman treat him like a doormat.
Katie: (Inhales sharply) (Sighs)
Rick: You've got that "Liam" look in your eyes again.
Hope: I can't help it. I'm in love with him.
Rick: Yeah. It's gonna take some time. Just keep your options open.
Hope: (Sighs) Hmm. You mean, like Thomas?
Rick: Yeah. He's not a bad one.
Hope: No, he's not, but he's not available, and he's not Liam.
Rick: It's over, Sis. It's time to accept that.
Hope: I'm trying.
Rick: I know.
Hope: Mm.
Rick: I gotta go.
Hope: Okay.
Rick: A C.E.O.'s work is never done.
Hope: Mm-hmm. (Clears throat)
Grace: These came for you.
Hope: What--who was sending me flowers? Is there a card? Thank you.
Grace: Enjoy.
Hope: Thanks. (Giggles)
Deacon: They're from me.
Hope: (Sighs)
Deacon: (Sighs)
