Caroline: I'm at Eric and Stephanie's pool. They're so kind to let me stay here. Rick, this place is amazing. There's views of downtown, the Pacific, Catalina. It's incredible.
Rick: You better be careful. You're not used to that California sun.
Caroline: (Laughs) I have sunscreen.
Rick: Do you have somebody to put it on your back?
Caroline: (Laughs)
Rick: I'll be right over.
Caroline: (Laughs) Bye.
Rick: See you later.
Ridge: Where are you going in such a hurry?
Rick: I just spoke to Caroline.
Ridge: You two aren't officially working together. I haven't okayed anything.
Rick: Oh, don't worry, Ridge. I promise we won't be doing anything official today. (Claps hands) If I play my cards right we won't bring up work at all.
(Door closes)
Brooke: Ooh, hoo hoo hoo. (Giggles) (Sighs)
Ridge: You think that's cute don't you?
Brooke: I-I'm just happy that my children are happy.
Ridge: So does that mean things are getting better for Hope? I thought the backlash against her and Liam was, uh, getting to her.
Brooke: It was, but she's doing what she has to do to get over it.
Dr. Barton: Hope.
Hope: Hi.
Dr. Barton: I'm surprised to see you. I was hoping you would call.
Hope: Oh, I know. I'm sorry. I should have called. Um, how was your trip?
Dr. Barton: Uh, it-- it went well. Are you having problems?
Hope: No. No.
Dr. Barton: You-- the agitation that you felt the last time you were here--
Hope: It is under control.
Dr. Barton: Well, that's good news.
Hope: I know. (Giggles) Well, that's why I'm here, actually. I-I really wanted to thank you for what you did... you know, with the pills.
Stephanie: I thought I heard somebody rattling around down here.
Caroline: Stephanie, hi. Oh, I hope you don't mind. I couldn't resist the pool. It's always so rainy this time of year in New York.
Stephanie: And snowy and cold. That's what it's for. Well, you and Ridge certainly had a long talk in the guesthouse yesterday.
Caroline: (Sighs) It meant so much to me. I've heard so many stories about my aunt, but to hear Ridge talk about her, it's... (Sighs)
Stephanie: Yeah. They had a wonderful life together.
Caroline: Until she passed.
Stephanie: Yes. Uh, she made quite an impression on almost everybody she met.
Caroline: I felt that, you know, staying in your home and being where she lived, it's like I'm walking in her footsteps.
Stephanie: Well, you certainly stirred up memories.
Caroline: Because I remind people of her?
Stephanie: I guess so. I think it's safe to say, though, you've made your own very unique impression, especially on all the young men around here.
Caroline: (Chuckles) Rick.
Stephanie: Actually, I was thinking of my hot grandson Tom.
Caroline: (Laughs)
Brooke: Do you like this one?
Ridge: Yeah, I do like it.
Brooke: Just do a suit concept.
Thomas: Oh, sorry, Dad. I was just looking for, uh..
Ridge: Yeah, we know who you were looking for, Thomas.
Brooke: (Sighs)
Thomas: (Laughs) Talking about Caroline?
Brooke: No. Hope.
Thomas: Oh. Yeah, I mean, she seemed pretty upbeat at the party.
Brooke: She's with the man that she loves. (Sighs) And she's determined to overcome all of the bad things that people are saying about her.
Ridge: Well, whatever she's doing, it seems to be working.
Brooke: She's getting the help where she needs it, but mostly it's her love for Liam and her desire to be happy. She's really strong. She'll get through this.
Dr. Barton: I'm sorry, Hope. I don't understand. When you left here after your last visit--
Hope: I was very upset. I know.
Dr. Barton: Yeah, with-- with me. And now you're here to thank me?
Hope: Yes, for what you did. I mean, I came to you for help.
Dr. Barton: Well, let's be honest. When you came to me for pills--
Hope: I did, yeah. I did. And--and when you wouldn't give them to me, I got really angry, I know. And I'm so sorry, because I know now that you really do want to help me.
Dr. Barton: I do. I-I just had some reservations about giving you more pills. You know, with a powerful medication like that, addiction is always a concern. But I... I'm sure I'm not gonna have to worry about that with you.
Ridge: That's great, Thorne. No, tell him we were very impressed. Thomas. All right, thanks. That's about the silk your uncle found for the couture gowns.
Thomas: Dad, I would love to work with that.
Ridge: What designer wouldn't?
Thomas: Well, then don't bother giving any to Rick. Look... (Sighs) I'm sorry. I know he's Brooke's son. He's not even a designer. He can't even draw a stick figure, yet he's got his own line.
Ridge: Yeah, well, that wasn't my call.
Thomas: You're C.E.O. Granddad had no right going over your head like that.
Ridge: Maybe I had a better chance of convincing him if the designs weren't selling so well.
Thomas: Dad, those numbers were off. T-there's no way he sold more than you.
Ridge: We were talking about Caroline.
Stephanie: Oh.
Thomas: (Clears throat)
Stephanie: You spent a lot of time with her at that party.
Thomas: Yeah, she's cool.
Stephanie: So, uh... (Sighs) You interested?
Thomas: Yeah, and so is every other guy in the building.
Stephanie: (Chuckles)
Thomas: But Brooke's gonna make sure Rick's got the inside track.
Stephanie: Oh, I think she's too smart to fall for something like that.
Ridge: Well, he's always trying to monopolize her time. They've got some meeting scheduled for this morning.
Stephanie: I don't think so. I just left her at the house at the pool.
Ridge: See, Thomas, that's what I was telling you. That's my boy.
Stephanie: Certainly is.
Rick: Well, looks like you're settling in.
Caroline: (Chuckles) Okay, I know that people said things were casual in California, but that is not how you dress for work.
Rick: No. No, it's not.
Caroline: (Laughs)
Rick: But, uh, we do keep our surf gear in our cars-- sunblock, too.
Caroline: So is that like a requirement if you're gonna live here-- you have to get a car, a California driver's license, and a surfboard?
Rick: Well, I highly recommend it, or you can pick up beach volleyball or snow skiing in the Sierras. Its only one hour away. (Sighs) California's got it all.
Caroline: Don't you do anything inside?
Rick: You mean, other than award shows and movie premieres?
Caroline: You spend all your time outside?
Rick: As much as I can. How did you spend your free time in New York?
Caroline: (Laughs) What free time? Between the foundation and my work in fashion...
Rick: None of your boyfriends ever made sure you got out?
Caroline: Little time for boyfriends.
Rick: Well, that's gotta change. You know, California's got a lot to offer, Caroline. It just doesn't have a lot of women like you.
Dr. Barton: So that's why you stopped by, to, thank me?
Hope: And to apologize to you for how I acted.
Dr. Barton: Well, you were feeling anxious.
Hope: Yeah, but the things I said to you weren't fair.
Dr. Barton: Well, people have been saying some unfair things about you-- that you're a hypocrite and a fraud.
Hope: (Sighs) They have, yeah. But I shouldn't have lashed out. I mean, that's--that's not who I am. I'm not an angry person. I'm really not. I promise. Uh, I'm a happy person. I am. I mean, why wouldn't I be? I-I have so much. I have an amazing boyfriend and a great family and an incredible job.
Dr. Barton: But those are all the things that are causing you stress.
Hope: Yeah. Everyone's got stress.
Dr. Barton: Mm.
Hope: It's just a matter of how you deal with it.
Dr. Barton: And how are you dealing with it, Hope?
Hope: Much, much better.
Dr. Barton: Okay. So you don't need another prescription?
Hope: No. No. Not right now.
Dr. Barton: All right.
(Knock on door)
Dr. Barton: Oh, I'm sorry. Excuse me.
Hope: No, that's fine.
Brooke: Hi.
Dr. Barton: Hi.
Brooke: (Sighs) I was in the neighborhood, and I thought you might have a minute.
Hope: Mom?
Brooke: Oh, honey. (Laughs)
Hope: What are you doing here?
Brooke: I wanted to stop by and tell Dr. Barton how wonderfully you've been doing. Are you two-- am I interrupting? Your assistant said that you were between patients. Are you in a session?
Hope: Oh, no. No, no, no.
Dr. Barton: No, I--but I'd like to set one up for her. I-I think Hope's making some progress, but there are other issues.
Brooke: Did you tell Stacy about the party? The whole family was there, and Hope was having a wonderful time, and she was very outgoing and relaxed, weren't you, honey?
Hope: Yeah, I-I-I'm not letting my anxiety control me. I'm in a much better place now. I really am. And I have you two to thank for that.
Brooke: (Sighs)
Hope: I mean, Mom, you're the one who brought me here, and--and, Dr. Barton, you've really helped me a lot. (Inhales sharply) I feel much stronger now.
Brooke: (Sighs) Oh, that's so wonderful.
Hope: (Laughs)
Brooke: I'm so proud of you.
Hope: Oh. Thanks. (Chuckles)
Stephanie: Caroline said that, uh, you and she ha- thank you--had a wonderful conversation, uh, in the guesthouse yesterday.
Ridge: Yeah, we did. (Sighs) I'd almost forgotten.
Stephanie: No, you haven't. None of us have.
Ridge: When we were there in that guesthouse talking about her aunt, I almost felt my Caroline there with us.
Stephanie: I always thought it was so sweet that Karen named her child after her sister.
Ridge: It's strange the three of them never actually met-- Caroline or her mom.
Stephanie: You'd never know it from all the stories she knows about her.
Ridge: Yeah, but that's just it. They're just stories. They're not memories. I think that's what Caroline is looking for now-- some tangible connection, to seek out people who actually knew her aunt.
Stephanie: Well, maybe staying in the guesthouse will bring some of those around.
Ridge: That's where she was happiest...
Stephanie: Mm-hmm.
Ridge: Even at the end. I remember most Caroline's amazing courage, even in the face of death-- worried about me, how I was gonna continue on. She was always thinking about other people.
Stephanie: Yeah, she always was. She was very empathetic. (Inhales sharply) Her niece seems to have some of those qualities. She seems like a really nice young girl.
Caroline: (Laughs)
Thomas: So I guess everybody's blowing off work today?
Caroline: Thomas!
Thomas: How's my favorite New Yorker? You're looking good. Hey, Rick. (Sighs) Shouldn't you be designing some clothes with Amber? My grandma told me you'd be by the pool... alone.
Caroline: Rick was, uh...
Thomas: Just leaving?
Rick: (Scoffs) Hardly.
Thomas: (Scoffs) (Sighs)
Thomas: The pool looks great. You want to get in?
Rick: No, actually, we're enjoying you strut around like a peacock.
Thomas: Oh, really?
Caroline: All right, boys. Boys. (Laughs)
Thomas: It's okay. We both just want to get some one-on-one time with you.
Caroline: Well, that's not gonna happen. We're having a party.
Rick: A party?
Caroline: Yeah, as soon as I make these calls. That's your sister's phone, right?
Rick: Y-yeah. My sister? Really?
Caroline: This is gonna be so much fun. (Squeals) It's gonna be great. We're having a party.
Thomas: Hmm.
Rick: Fun.
Thomas: Loads.
Rick: (Sighs)
Caroline: Hope. Hi, it's Caroline Spencer. I'm at the Forrester pool with your brother, and Thomas just showed up. Any chance you can swing by?
Hope: Uh, yeah. Yeah. Sure, Caroline. That sounds fun. I don't remember the last time I spent the day relaxing by the pool. I'll be right over. (Clears throat)
(Elevator bell rings)
Ridge: Tell him I'll catch him next time he's in town. All right, bye.
Stephanie: I, uh, should just let you get back to work. (Chuckles)
Ridge: Wait. You were just asking about Hope.
Stephanie: Oh, I was just saying that, um, I-I realize Brooke has brought her-- uh, brought Caroline out here to work with Rick, but it might end up being more beneficial to Hope.
Ridge: Hope's used to setting examples, not following them.
Stephanie: I-I just think they'll get along, that's all.
Ridge: Well, you know who I think she'd get along with a lot more.
Stephanie: You really want to pick a fight with your wife over this?
Ridge: I think Brooke is hoping that something is going to click between Rick and Caroline, but who's to say she's even attracted to him?
Stephanie: Well, she's beautiful. She's an accomplished young woman.
Ridge: And she's trying to make a difference in the world. Does that sound more like Rick or Thomas?
Stephanie: You don't have to convince me. I'm sure she'd be very good for Tom, just like her aunt was very good for you.
(Door opens)
Thomas: (Sighs)
Caroline: Hope is on her way.
Rick: The more the merrier, I suppose.
Caroline: (Chuckles)
Thomas: Hmm. Got one of those for me?
Rick: Hey, Thomas, why don't you give Grandma, uh, company in the house?
Thomas: Mm. No, I don't think so. There you go.
Caroline: (Chuckles)
Thomas: (Chuckles) Mmm.
Rick: I propose a toast-- to Caroline, welcome to L.A., the city of angels. I hope it brings you good health, good luck, and good friends.
(Glasses clink)
Caroline: Thank you. You both made me feel so welcome today.
Hope: Hey, guys! Hi!
Caroline: Hey, Hope. Oh, I'm so glad you could make it.
Hope: Oh, yeah. Tank you for inviting me. This.. exactly what I need... (Sighs) A day chilling by the pool. Hey, Thomas.
Thomas: Hey.
Rick: Ridge was okay with you leaving?
Hope: Uh, yeah, I wasn't at the office. I had an appointment. Um, I have a suit in the pool house, so I'm just gonna go change. Okay.
Caroline: Glass of wine?
Hope: Um... no. No, I-I'm okay, thanks. Thank you so much for inviting me today. This... I really needed this. (Sighs)
Caroline: Okay.
Brooke: This probably wasn't a great idea. (Sighs)
Dr. Barton: Oh, what makes you say that?
Brooke: Coming here to talk about Hope.
Dr. Barton: Well, you were the one who recommended her to me, so, you know... you, uh, you think she's getting better?
Brooke: Yes, I do.
Dr. Barton: I think she's making progress as well.
Brooke: (Sighs) Good. I'm so relieved. When you gave her those pills, I was a little concerned, thinking that maybe her anxiety was a little bit more than I realized.
Dr. Barton: Well, as I told you both, it was just a temporary measure, you know? That's it, and I only gave her two pills.
Brooke: Well, they certainly seemed to work. You didn't give her any more, did you?
Dr. Barton: Uh, no, I didn't.
Brooke: Okay. (Sighs) Well we need your help, next time, we'll definitely give you a call. I-I think Hope's pretty good at working out her own issues. I mean, you should have seen her at the party. She was having a great time. She could let down her hair and enjoy herself.
Dr. Barton: Uh...
Brooke: It was really good to see.
Dr. Barton: Oh, I don't think I can take credit for that. Hope's only been to see me a few times, you know? Evidently, she's found her own way to deal with her stress.
Hope: (Sighs)
(Glasses clink)
Hope: Okay, sunglasses. Sunglasses, sunglasses. (Sighs) (Clears throat) (Sighs)
